¹ And it happened, when David and his men came to Ziklag on the third day, that the Amalekites had made a raid upon the South and upon Ziklag and had struck Ziklag and burned it with fire,

⁶² And Isaac came from the way of Beer-lahai-roi, and he dwelt in the land of the South.

⁶ And Jehovah said to Joshua, Do not be afraid because of them, for tomorrow at this time I will deliver them up all slain before Israel. You will hock their horses and burn their chariots with fire.

⁷ And Saul killed* the Amalekites, from Havilah as you go to Shur, that is before Egypt.

⁸ And David and his men went up and made a raid upon the Geshurites and the Girzites and the Amalekites, for those nations were the inhabitants of the land, who were of old as you go to Shur, even to the land of Egypt.
⁹ And David killed* the land and saved neither man nor woman alive and took away the sheep and the oxen and the donkeys and the camels and the apparel and he returned and came to Achish.
¹⁰ And Achish said, Against whom have you* made a raid today? And David said, Against the South of Judah and against the South of the Jerahmeelites and against the South of the Kenites.

⁴ But the rulers of the Philistines were angry with him. And the rulers of the Philistines said to him, Make the man return, that he may go back to his place where you have appointed him and let him not go down with us to battle, lest in the battle he become an adversary to us. For with what does this man reconcile himself to his lord? Would it not be with the heads of these men?

¹¹ So David rose up early, he and his men, to depart in the morning, to return into the land of the Philistines. And the Philistines went up to Jezreel.

² it happened on the third day, that, behold, a man came out of the camp from Saul with his clothes torn and earth upon his head. And so it was, when he came to David, that he fell to the ground and bowed-down.
