¹ And Jehovah said to Samuel, How long will you mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him from being king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and go. I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, for I have provided for me a king among his sons.
² And Samuel said, How do I go? If Saul hears it, he will kill me. And Jehovah said, Take a heifer with you and say, I have come to sacrifice to Jehovah. ³ And call Jesse to the sacrifice and I will show you what you will do. And you will anoint for me he whom I name to you.
⁴ And Samuel did what Jehovah spoke and came to Bethlehem. And the elders of the city came to meet him trembling and said, Do you come peaceably? ⁵ And he said, Peaceably; I have come to sacrifice to Jehovah. Sanctify yourselves and come with me to the sacrifice. And he made Jesse and his sons holy and called them to the sacrifice.
⁶ And it happened, when they came, that he looked on Eliab and said, Surely Jehovah's anointed is before him. ⁷ But Jehovah said to Samuel, Do not look on his countenance, or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For Jehovah sees not as man sees, for man looks on the outward appearance, but Jehovah looks on the heart.
⁸ Then Jesse called Abinadab and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, Neither has Jehovah chosen this man. ⁹ Then Jesse made Shammah to pass by. And he said, Neither has Jehovah chosen this man. ¹⁰ And Jesse made seven of his sons to pass before Samuel. And Samuel said to Jesse, Jehovah has not chosen these men.
¹¹ And Samuel said to Jesse, Are all your sons here? And he said, There remains yet the youngest, and behold, he is keeping the sheep. And Samuel said to Jesse, Send and fetch him, for we will not sit down till he comes here.
¹² And he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy and of a beautiful countenance and fine to look upon. And Jehovah said, Arise, anoint him, for this is he. ¹³ Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers. And the Spirit of Jehovah came mightily upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up and went to Ramah.
¹⁴ Now the Spirit of Jehovah departed from Saul and an evil spirit from Jehovah troubled him. ¹⁵ And Saul's servants said to him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubles you. ¹⁶ Let our lord now command your servants, who are before you, to seek out a man who is a skillful player on the harp. And it will happen, when the evil spirit from God is upon you, that he will play with his hand and you will be well.
¹⁷ And Saul said to his servants, Provide for me now a man who can play well and bring him to me. ¹⁸ Then one of the young men answered and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite who is skillful in playing and a mighty man of valor and a man of war and prudent in speech and a handsome man and Jehovah is with him.
¹⁹ Therefore Saul sent messengers to Jesse and said, Send to me David your son, who is with the sheep. ²⁰ And Jesse took a donkey with bread and a skin-container of wine and a kid and sent them by David his son to Saul. ²¹ And David came to Saul and stood before him. And he loved him greatly and he became his armor bearer. ²² And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, I beseech you, let David stand before me, for he has found favor in my sight.
²³ And it happened, when the spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took the harp and played with his hand. So Saul was refreshed and was well and the evil spirit departed from him.

⁸ Judah, your brothers will praise you. Your hand will be on the neck of your enemies. Your father's sons will bow down before you. ⁹ Judah is a lion's cub. From the prey, my son, you have gone up. He stooped down, he couched as a lion and as a lioness, who will rouse him up?
¹⁰ The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, until he comes to whom it belongs and to him will the obedience of the peoples be.

¹⁷ And the women, her neighbors, gave it a name, saying, There is a son born to Naomi. And they called his name Obed. He is the father of Jesse, the father of David.
¹⁸ Now these are the genealogies of Perez: Perez fathered Hezron, ¹⁹ and Hezron fathered Ram and Ram fathered Amminadab, ²⁰ and Amminadab fathered Nahshon and Nahshon fathered Salmon, ²¹ and Salmon fathered Boaz and Boaz fathered Obed, ²² and Obed fathered Jesse and Jesse fathered David.

¹⁶ Tomorrow about this time I will send you a man out of the land of Benjamin and you will anoint him to be prince over my people Israel. And he will save my people out of the hand of the Philistines, for I have looked upon my people, because their cry has come to me.

¹ Then Samuel took the vial of oil and poured it upon his head and kissed him and said, Is it not that Jehovah has anointed you to be prince over his inheritance?

¹³ And Samuel said to Saul, You have done foolishly. You have not kept the commandment of Jehovah your God, which he commanded you. For now Jehovah would have established your kingdom upon Israel until everlasting, ¹⁴ but now your kingdom will not continue. Jehovah has sought for him a man after his own heart and Jehovah has appointed him to be prince over his people, because you have not kept what Jehovah commanded you.

¹¹ I regret that I have set up Saul to be king, for he has turned back from following me and has not performed my commandments. And Samuel was angry and he cried out to Jehovah all night.

²³ For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft and stubbornness is as idolatry and household-idol. Because you have rejected the word of Jehovah, he has also rejected you from being king.

²⁶ And Samuel said to Saul, I will not return with you, for you have rejected the word of Jehovah and Jehovah has rejected you from being king over Israel.

³⁵ And Samuel came no more to see Saul until the day of his death, for Samuel mourned for Saul and Jehovah regretted that he had made Saul king over Israel.

¹⁵ And Saul's servants said to him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubles you.

²³ And it happened, when the spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took the harp and played with his hand. So Saul was refreshed and was well and the evil spirit departed from him.

¹ And Elisha the prophet called one of the sons of the prophets and said to him, Gird up your loins and take this vial of oil in your hand and go to Ramoth-gilead.

³ Then take the vial of oil and pour it on his head and say, Jehovah says thus, I have anointed you king over Israel. Then open the door and flee and do not delay.

⁶ And he arose and went into the house. And he poured the oil on his head and said to him, Jehovah says thus, the God of Israel, I have anointed you king over the people of Jehovah, even over Israel.

¹⁰ And Ram fathered Amminadab and Amminadab fathered Nahshon, ruler of the sons of Judah. ¹¹ And Nahshon fathered Salmon and Salmon fathered Boaz, ¹² and Boaz fathered Obed and Obed fathered Jesse, ¹³ and Jesse fathered his firstborn Eliab and Abinadab the second and Shimea the third, ¹⁴ Nethanel the fourth, Raddai the fifth, ¹⁵ Ozem the sixth, David the seventh.

⁶⁸ but chose the tribe of Judah, the Mount Zion which he loved. ⁶⁹ And he built his sanctuary like the heights, like the earth which he has established everlasting.
⁷⁰ He also chose David his servant and took him from the sheepfolds. ⁷¹ He brought him from following the ewe-lambs that have their young, to be the shepherd of Jacob his people and Israel his inheritance.

¹⁹ Then you spoke in a vision to your holy ones and said, I have laid help upon a mighty man. I have exalted a chosen man out of the people.
²⁰ I have found David my servant. I have anointed him with my holy oil,

¹ And there will come out a shoot out of the stock of Jesse. And a branch out of his roots will bear fruit.

¹⁰ And there will be a root of Jesse in that day and he who arises to rule over the Gentiles. In him will the Gentiles hope and his resting place will be glorious.

⁴ Behold, I have given him for a witness to the peoples, a leader and commander to the peoples.

³⁰ Waste silver, men will call them, because Jehovah has rejected them.

¹⁶ Therefore pray you not for this people, nor lift up cry nor prayer for them. Neither make intercession to me, for I will not hear you.

¹⁴ Therefore do not pray you for this people, nor lift up cry nor prayer for them, for I will not hear them in the time that they cry to me on behalf of their trouble.

¹¹ And Jehovah said to me, Pray not for this people for good. ¹² When they fast, I will not hear their cry. And when they offer burnt offering and meal offering, I will not accept them. But I will consume them by the sword and by the famine and by the pestilence.

¹ Then Jehovah said to me, Though Moses and Samuel stood before me, yet my mind would not be toward this people. Cast them out of my sight and let them go forth.

²¹ And from thereon, they asked for a king. And God gave to them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years. ²² And having removed him, he lifted up David to be king to them; to whom he also testified and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man according to my own heart, who will be practicing all my will.

¹² And again, Isaiah says, ‘There will be the root of Jesse and he who raised up to rule over the Gentiles; upon him the Gentiles will hope.’

¹⁶ If anyone sees his brother sinning ^{F} a sin not to death, he will ask and God will be giving him life for those who are not sinning to death. There is a sin to death. I do not say that he should ask concerning that.

¹¹ And Moses said to God, Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh and that I should bring forth the sons of Israel out of Egypt?

¹² And they answered them and said, He is. Behold, he is before you. Make haste now, for he has come today into the city, for the people have a sacrifice today in the high place.

²⁹ And he said, I beseech you, let me go because our family has a sacrifice in the city and my brother, he has commanded me. And now, if I have found favor in your eyes, let me get away, I beseech you and see my brothers. Therefore he has not come to the king's table.

⁹ And he said, How have I sinned that you would deliver your servant into the hand of Ahab to kill me? ¹⁰ As Jehovah your God lives, there is no nation or kingdom where my lord has not sent to seek you. And when they said, He is not here, he took an oath from the kingdom and nation that they did not find you.
¹¹ And now you say, Go, tell your lord, Behold, Elijah is here. ¹² And it will happen, as soon as I have gone from you, that the Spirit of Jehovah will carry you where I do not know. And so when I come and tell Ahab and he cannot find you, he will kill me. But I your servant fear Jehovah from my youth.
¹³ Was it not told my lord what I did when Jezebel killed the prophets of Jehovah, how I hid a hundred men of Jehovah's prophets by fifties in a cave and fed them with bread and water? ¹⁴ And now you say, Go, tell your lord, Behold, Elijah is here and he will kill me.

²⁶ then you will say to them, I presented my supplication before the king, that he would not cause me to return to Jonathan's house to die there.
²⁷ Then all the rulers came to Jeremiah and asked him. And he told them according to all these words that the king had commanded. So they left off speaking with him, for the matter was not perceived.

¹⁶ Behold, I am sending you forth like sheep in the midst of wolves; therefore, become prudent like serpents and harmless like doves.

³⁴ But Mary said to the messenger, How will this be, since I do not know a man sexually?

¹⁵ And you will speak to him and put the words in his mouth. And I will be with your mouth and with his mouth and will teach you* what you* will do,

¹⁴ When you have come to the land which Jehovah your God gives you and will possess it and will dwell in it and will say, I will set a king over me like all the nations that are all around me, ¹⁵ you will surely set him king over you whom Jehovah your God will choose. You will set a king over you from among your brothers. You may not put a foreigner over you who is not your brother.

¹² And they answered them and said, He is. Behold, he is before you. Make haste now, for he has come today into the city, for the people have a sacrifice today in the high place.
¹³ As soon as you* have come into the city, you* will immediately find him before he goes up to the high place to eat. For the people will not eat until he comes, because he graces the sacrifice, and afterwards those who are bidden eat. Therefore now you* get up, for at this time you* will find him.

¹² And he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy and of a beautiful countenance and fine to look upon. And Jehovah said, Arise, anoint him, for this is he. ¹³ Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers. And the Spirit of Jehovah came mightily upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up and went to Ramah.

¹¹ And with Absalom went two hundred men out of Jerusalem who were invited and went in their simplicity. And they did not know anything.

¹ And Jesus answered and spoke again to them in parables, saying: ² The kingdom of the heavens is similar to a certain king, who made a marriage-feast for his son, ³ and sent forth his bondservants to call to those who have been invited to the marriage-feast, and they were not willing to come. ⁴ Again he sent forth other bondservants, saying, Say to those who have been invited, Behold, I prepared my meal; my oxen and my fattened calves have been sacrificed, and all things are prepared. Come-here to the marriage-feast.

⁶ And trembling and amazed, he said, What do you wish me to do?
And the Lord said to him, But stand up and enter into the city and it will be spoken to you what it is essential for you to do.

⁷ And as for me, when I came from Paddan, Rachel died by me in the land of Canaan on the way, when there was still some distance to come to Ephrath. And I buried her there on the way to Ephrath (what is Bethlehem).

¹ Then David came to Nob to Ahimelech the priest. And Ahimelech came to meet David trembling and said to him, Why are you alone and no man with you?

⁹ And David was afraid of Jehovah that day and he said, How will the ark of Jehovah come to me?

¹³ Then Adonijah the son of Haggith came to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon. And she said, Do you come peaceably? And he said, Peaceably.

¹⁸ And she said to Elijah, What have I to do with you, O you man of God? You have come to me to bring my sin to remembrance and to kill my son!

²² And it happened, when Joram saw Jehu, that he said, Is it peace, Jehu? And he answered, What peace, so long as the prostitutions of your mother Jezebel and her witchcrafts are so many?

¹⁷ And David went out to meet them and answered and said to them, If you* have come peaceably to me to help me, my heart will be knit to you*, but if you * are coming to betray me to my adversaries, seeing there is no wrong in my hands, the God of our fathers look on it and rebuke it.
¹⁸ Then the Spirit came upon Amasai, who was chief of the thirty, and he said, We are yours, David and on your side, you son of Jesse. Peace, peace be to you and peace be to your helpers, for your God helps you. Then David received them and made them captains of the band.

⁵ Therefore I have hewed them by the prophets. I have slain them by the words of my mouth. And your judgments are as the light that goes forth.

¹⁰ They will walk after Jehovah, who will roar like a lion. For he will roar and the sons will come trembling from the west.

⁴ Now Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was out of the house and family of David;

⁸ But Simon Peter, when he saw it, fell down before Jesus’knees, saying, Go away from me, because I am a man, a sinner, O Lord.

³⁷ And all the multitude of the region around the Gadarenes asked him to go away from them, because they were being held by great fear, and he stepped into the ship and returned.

¹⁰ And Jehovah said to Moses, Go to the people and sanctify them today and tomorrow and let them wash their garments,

¹⁴ And Moses went down from the mountain to the people and made the people holy and they washed their garments. ¹⁵ And he said to the people, Be ready for the third day. Do not come near a woman.

⁷ Sanctify yourselves therefore and become you* holy, for I am Jehovah your* God. ⁸ And you* will keep my statutes and do them. I am Jehovah who sanctifies you*.

⁸ The people went about and gathered it and ground it in mills, or beat it in mortars and boiled it in pots and made cakes of it. And the taste of it was as the taste of fresh oil.

⁵ And Joshua said to the people, Sanctify yourselves, for tomorrow Jehovah will do wonders among you*.

¹³ Up, sanctify the people and say, Sanctify yourselves against tomorrow. For Jehovah says thus, the God of Israel, There is what has been set apart in the midst of you, O Israel. You cannot stand before your enemies until you* take away the devoted thing from among you*.

¹⁷ For there were many in the assembly who had not made themselves holy. Therefore the Levites had charge of killing the Passover offerings for everyone who was not clean, to sanctify them to Jehovah. ¹⁸ For a multitude of the people, even many of Ephraim and Manasseh, Issachar and Zebulun, had not cleansed themselves, yet they ate the Passover otherwise than it is written.
For Hezekiah had prayed for them, saying, The good Jehovah pardon everyone ¹⁹ who sets his heart to seek God, Jehovah, the God of his fathers, though he is not according to the purification of the sanctuary. ²⁰ And Jehovah listened to Hezekiah and healed the people.

⁵ And it was so, when the days of their feasting were completed, that Job sent and made them holy and rose up early in the morning and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all. For Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned and renounced God in their hearts. Thus Job did continually.

² Examine me, O Jehovah and prove me. Try my heart and my mind. ³ Because your loving kindness is before my eyes and I have walked in your truth.
⁴ I have not sat with men of falsehood, nor will I go in with pretenders. ⁵ I hate the assembly of evildoers and will not sit with the wicked.
⁶ I will wash my hands in innocence, so I will encompass your altar, O Jehovah,

¹⁶ Gather the people. Sanctify the assembly. Assemble the old men. Gather the sons and those who suck the breasts. Let the bridegroom go forth from his chamber and the bride out of her closet.

²⁸ But let a man test himself and so let him eat from the bread and let him drink out of the cup.

¹⁸ Then he said to Zebah and Zalmunna, What manner of men were they whom you* killed at Tabor? And they answered, As you are, so were they. Each one resembled the sons of a king.

¹³ And the three eldest sons of Jesse had gone after Saul to the battle. And the names of his three sons who went to the battle were Eliab the firstborn and next to him Abinadab and the third Shammah.

²² And David left his baggage in the hand of the keeper of the baggage and ran to the army and came and saluted his brothers.

²⁶ And Jeroboam said in his heart, Now the kingdom will return to the house of David.

¹³ and Jesse fathered his firstborn Eliab and Abinadab the second and Shimea the third,

¹⁸ of Judah, Elihu, one of the brothers of David; of Issachar, Omri the son of Michael;

² And he had a son whose name was Saul, a young man and fine looking. And there was not among the sons of Israel a man better looking than he. From his shoulders and upward he was taller than any of the people.

²³ And they ran and fetched him from there. And when he stood among the people, he was higher than any of the people from his shoulders and upward.
²⁴ And Samuel said to all the people, See him whom Jehovah has chosen, that there is none like him among all the people? And all the people shouted and said, Live, O king!

²⁵ Now in all Israel there was none to be so much praised as Absalom for his beauty; from the sole of his foot even to the crown of his head there was no blemish in him.

³⁹ then hear you in heaven your dwelling-place and forgive and do and render to every man according to all his ways, whose heart you know (for you, even you only, know the hearts of all the sons of men),

⁹ And you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind, for Jehovah searches all hearts and understands all the imaginations of the thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will cast you off forever.

⁹ For the eyes of Jehovah run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong to those whose heart is perfect toward him. In this you have done foolishly, for from hereafter you will have wars.

⁴ Have you eyes of flesh? Or do you see as man sees?

⁹ O let the evil of the wicked man come to an end, but establish the righteous man. For the righteous God tries the minds and hearts.

² You know my sitting down and my rising up. You understand my thought afar off.

¹⁰ He does not delight in the strength of the horse. He takes no pleasure in the legs of a man. ¹¹ Jehovah takes pleasure in those who fear him, in those who hope in his loving kindness.

¹¹ Sheol and Abaddon are before Jehovah, also the hearts of the sons of men!

² All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes, but Jehovah weighs the spirits.

³⁰ Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears Jehovah, she will be praised.

⁸ For my thoughts are not your* thoughts, nor are your* ways my ways, says Jehovah. ⁹ For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your* ways and my thoughts than your* thoughts.

²⁰ But, O Jehovah of hosts, who judges righteously, who tries the heart and the mind, I will see your vengeance on them, for to you I have revealed my case.

¹⁰ I, Jehovah, search the mind. I try the heart, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his practices.

¹² But, O Jehovah of hosts, who tries the righteous, who sees the heart and the mind, let me see your vengeance on them, for to you I have revealed my cause.

¹⁵ And he said to them, You are those who are making yourselves righteous in the sight of men, but God knows your hearts, because what is exalted among men is an abomination in God’s sight.

²⁴ Do not judge according to appearance, but judge righteous judgment.

²⁴ And having prayed, they said, You Lord, knower of the hearts of all, show which one out of these two you have chosen

⁷ Are you looking at things according to their countenance? If anyone has confidence in himself to be Christ’s, let him count this again from within himself, that, just-as he is Christ’s, so are we also Christ’s.

¹⁰ Because indeed he says, The letters are weighty and mighty, but the body’s presence is weak and the speech has been nothing special.

¹³ And there is no created thing unapparent in his sight, but all things are naked and have been laid-bare to his eyes to whom is our account.

⁴ coming to whom is a living stone, having indeed been rejected by men, but chosen and precious with God.

⁴ but let it be the hidden human things of the heart, in the incorruptible clothing of a meek and quiet spirit, which is greatly-valued in God’s sight.

²³ And I will be killing her children with death, and all the congregations will know that I am he who is searching the kidneys and hearts and I will be giving to you, each one according to your works.

³ But Amnon had a friend whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah, David's brother. And Jonadab was a very sly man.

¹² Now David was the son of that Ephrathite of Bethlehem in Judah, whose name was Jesse. And he had eight sons and the man was an old man in the days of Saul, stricken in years among men. ¹³ And the three eldest sons of Jesse had gone after Saul to the battle. And the names of his three sons who went to the battle were Eliab the firstborn and next to him Abinadab and the third Shammah. ¹⁴ And David was the youngest and the three eldest followed Saul.
¹⁵ Now David went to and fro from Saul to feed his father's sheep at Bethlehem.

²⁸ And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spoke to the men. And Eliab's anger was kindled against David and he said, Why have you come down? And with whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your pride and the mischief of your heart, for you have come down that you might see the battle.

⁸ Now therefore thus you will say to my servant David, Jehovah of hosts says thus, I took you from the sheepfold, from following the sheep, that you should be prince over my people, over Israel.

⁶ And he left all that he had in Joseph's hand and he knew nothing that was with him, save the bread which he ate. And Joseph was handsome and fine-looking.

¹⁷ And when Samuel saw Saul, Jehovah said to him, Behold, the man of whom I spoke to you! This man will have authority over my people.

⁴² And when the Philistine looked about and saw David, he disdained him, for he was but a youth and ruddy and of a fair countenance.

² The kings of the earth set themselves and the rulers take counsel together, against Jehovah and against his anointed, saying,

⁶ Yet I have set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.

¹⁰ My beloved is white and ruddy, the chief among ten thousand.

⁷ Her ranking men were purer than snow. They were whiter than milk. They were more ruddy in body than rubies. Their polishing was as of sapphire.

²⁷ For against truth, against your holy young-servant Jesus, whom you anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, together with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, were gathered together

²⁰ In which season, Moses was born and was handsome to God, and he was nourished three months in his father’s house.

²³ In faith, Moses, having been born, was hid three months by his parents, because they saw he was a handsome child, and they were not afraid of the command of the king.

¹⁷ And I will come down and talk with you there. And I will take of the spirit which is upon you and will put it upon them and they will bear the burden of the people with you, that you not bear it yourself alone.

¹⁸ And Jehovah said to Moses, You take Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the Spirit and lay your hand upon him,

¹⁰ And the Spirit of Jehovah came upon him and he judged Israel. And he went out to war and Jehovah delivered Cushan-rishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand and his hand prevailed against Cushan-rishathaim.

²⁹ Then the Spirit of Jehovah came upon Jephthah and he passed over Gilead and Manasseh and passed over Mizpeh of Gilead and from Mizpeh of Gilead he passed over to the sons of Ammon.

²⁵ And the Spirit of Jehovah began to move him in Mahaneh-dan, between Zorah and Eshtaol.

⁶ And the Spirit of Jehovah came mightily upon him and he tore him apart as he would have torn a kid and he had nothing in his hand. But he did not tell his father or his mother what he had done.

⁶ And the Spirit of Jehovah will come mightily upon you and you will prophesy with them and will be turned into another man.

⁹ And it was so, that, when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart. And all those signs happened that day. ¹⁰ And when they came there to the hill, behold, a band of prophets met him. And the Spirit of God came mightily upon him and he prophesied among them.

⁶ And the Spirit of God came mightily upon Saul when he heard those words and his anger was greatly kindled.

¹⁸ Then one of the young men answered and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite who is skillful in playing and a mighty man of valor and a man of war and prudent in speech and a handsome man and Jehovah is with him.

¹ And there will come out a shoot out of the stock of Jesse. And a branch out of his roots will bear fruit. ² And the Spirit of Jehovah will rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of Jehovah. ³ And his delight will be in the fear of Jehovah. And he will not judge according to the sight of his eyes, nor decide according to the hearing of his ears,

³⁴ For he whom God has sent speaks the words of God; for God does not give the Spirit from measure.

⁹ You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness. Because of this, God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness more than your companions.’

²³ And God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the men of Shechem and the men of Shechem dealt treacherously with Abimelech,

²⁰ And she said, The Philistines are upon you, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep and said, I will go out as at other times and shake myself free, but he did not know that Jehovah was departed from him.

²⁹ And Samson took hold of the two middle pillars upon which the house rested and leaned upon them, the one with his right hand and the other with his left.

¹⁰ And it happened on the morrow, that an evil spirit from God came mightily upon Saul and he prophesied in the midst of the house. And David played with his hand, as he did day by day and Saul had his spear in his hand.

¹² And Saul was afraid of David because Jehovah was with him and was departed from Saul.

⁹ And an evil spirit from Jehovah was upon Saul as he sat in his house with his spear in his hand and David was playing with his hand. ¹⁰ And Saul sought to kill* David even to the wall with the spear, but he slipped away out of Saul's presence and he killed* the spear into the wall. And David fled and escaped that night.

¹⁵ And Samuel said to Saul, Why have you shaken me, to bring me up? And Saul answered, I am greatly distressed, for the Philistines make war against me and God is departed from me and answers me no more, neither by prophets, nor by dreams. Therefore I have called you, that you may make known to me what I will do.

²² And Jehovah said to him, With what? And he said, I will go forth and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, You will entice him and will also prevail. Go forth and do so.

¹¹ Cast me not away from your presence and take not your holy Spirit from me.

¹² Though they bring up their sons, yet I will bereave them, so that not a man will be left. Yes, woe also to them when I depart from them!

¹⁵ But the evil spirit having answered, said to them, I know Jesus, and I know Paul, but who are you? ¹⁶ And the man in whom the evil spirit was, leaping upon them and having mastered, prevailed against them, so-that they fled out of that house, naked and traumatized.

⁴⁶ And Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh King of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh and went throughout all the land of Egypt.

⁵ After that you will come to the hill of God where is the garrison of the Philistines. And it will happen, when you have come there to the city, that you will meet a band of prophets coming down from the high place with a psaltery and a timbrel and a pipe and a harp, before them and they will be prophesying.

²¹ And David came to Saul and stood before him. And he loved him greatly and he became his armor bearer. ²² And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, I beseech you, let David stand before me, for he has found favor in my sight.
²³ And it happened, when the spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took the harp and played with his hand. So Saul was refreshed and was well and the evil spirit departed from him.

⁹ And an evil spirit from Jehovah was upon Saul as he sat in his house with his spear in his hand and David was playing with his hand.

⁸ Your men are fortunate, these, your servants, are fortunate who stand continually before you, who hear your wisdom.

¹⁵ But now bring me a minstrel. And it happened, when the minstrel played, that the hand of Jehovah came upon him.

² And Jehovah was with Joseph. And he was a man who succeeds. And he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.

²³ The keeper of the prison did not look to anything that was under his hand, because Jehovah was with him and what he did, Jehovah made it prosper.

¹⁹ And Samuel grew and Jehovah was with him and let none of his words fall to the ground.

⁷ And let it be, when these signs have come to you, that you do as occasion will serve you, for God is with you.

³² And David said to Saul, Let no man's heart fail because of him. Your servant will go and fight with this Philistine. ³³ And Saul said to David, You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him, for you are but a youth and he a man of war from his youth.
³⁴ And David said to Saul, Your servant was keeping his father's sheep and when there came a lion, or a bear and took a lamb out of the flock, ³⁵ I went out after him and killed* him and delivered it out of his mouth. And when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard and killed* him and killed him. ³⁶ Your servant killed* both the lion and the bear and this uncircumcised Philistine will be as one of them, seeing he has defied the armies of the living God.

¹² And Saul was afraid of David because Jehovah was with him and was departed from Saul. ¹³ Therefore Saul removed him from him and made him his captain over a thousand and he went out and came in before the people.
¹⁴ And David behaved himself wisely in all his ways and Jehovah was with him.

²⁰ Your servant Joab has done this thing to change the face of the matter. And my lord is wise, according to the wisdom of a messenger of God, to know all things that are on the earth.

⁸ Hushai said moreover, You know your father and his men, that they are mighty men and they are chafed in their minds, as a bear robbed of her cubs in the field. And your father is a man of war and will not lodge with the people.

¹⁰ And even he who is valiant, whose heart is as the heart of a lion, will utterly melt, for all Israel knows that your father is a mighty man and those who are with him are valiant men.

²³ ‘Behold, the virgin will be pregnant, and will be bearing a son, and they will call his name Immanuel'; which is, after being translated, ‘God with us.’

²⁰ teaching them to observe all things, as many things as I have commanded you, and behold, I am with you all the days until the end of the earth.

¹ Now Moses was keeping the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian. And he led the flock to the back of the wilderness and came to the mountain of God, to Horeb.
² And the messenger of Jehovah appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush. And he looked, and behold, the bush burned with fire and the bush was not consumed. ³ And Moses said, I will turn aside now and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.
⁴ And when Jehovah saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the midst of the bush and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here I am. ⁵ And he said, Do not draw near here. Put off your shoes from your feet, because the place on which you stand is holy ground. ⁶ Moreover he said, I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look upon God.
⁷ And Jehovah said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, because I know their sorrows. ⁸ And I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land to a good and large land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Amorite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite.
⁹ And now, behold, the cry of the sons of Israel has come to me. Moreover I have seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them. ¹⁰ Come now therefore and I will send you to Pharaoh, that you may bring forth my people the sons of Israel out of Egypt.

¹¹ And Samuel said to Jesse, Are all your sons here? And he said, There remains yet the youngest, and behold, he is keeping the sheep. And Samuel said to Jesse, Send and fetch him, for we will not sit down till he comes here.

¹⁵ Now David went to and fro from Saul to feed his father's sheep at Bethlehem.

³³ And Saul said to David, You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him, for you are but a youth and he a man of war from his youth.
³⁴ And David said to Saul, Your servant was keeping his father's sheep and when there came a lion, or a bear and took a lamb out of the flock,

¹⁹ So he departed from there and found Elisha the son of Shaphat who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him and he with the twelfth. And Elijah passed over to him and cast his mantle upon him.

⁷⁰ He also chose David his servant and took him from the sheepfolds. ⁷¹ He brought him from following the ewe-lambs that have their young, to be the shepherd of Jacob his people and Israel his inheritance.
⁷² So he was their shepherd according to the integrity of his heart and guided them by the skillfulness of his hands.

⁸ that he may set him with rulers, even with the rulers of his people.

¹ The words of Amos, who was among the herdsmen of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash King of Israel, two years before the earthquake.

¹⁴ Then Amos answered and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, nor was I a prophet's son, but I was a herdsman and a dresser of sycamore trees. ¹⁵ And Jehovah took me from following the flock and Jehovah said to me, Go, prophesy to my people Israel.

¹⁸ Now walking beside the sea of Galilee, he saw two brethren, Simon who is called Peter and Andrew, his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. ¹⁹ And he says to them, Come-here after me and I will make you fishermen of men. ²⁰ Now immediately, they left the nets and followed him. ²¹ And having advanced from there, he saw two other brothers, James, the son of Zebedee and John, his brother, in the ship with Zebedee, their father, mending their nets. And he called them. ²² Now immediately they followed him having left the ship and their father.

¹¹ And their father Israel said to them, If it is so now, do this: take of the choice fruits of the land in your* vessels and carry a present down to the man, a little balm and a little honey, spicery and myrrh, nuts and almonds.

²⁷ But certain worthless fellows said, How will this man save us? And they despised him and brought him no present. But he held his peace.

¹⁸ And bring these ten cheeses to the captain of their thousand. And look how your brothers fare and take their pledge.

¹⁸ Then Abigail made haste and took two hundred loaves and two jugs of wine and five sheep ready dressed and five measures of parched grain and a hundred clusters of raisins and two hundred cakes of figs and laid them on donkeys.

¹ And when David was a little past the top of the ascent, behold, Ziba the servant of Mephibosheth met him with a couple of saddled donkeys and upon them two hundred loaves of bread and a hundred clusters of raisins and a hundred of summer fruits and a jug of wine.
² And the king said to Ziba, What do you mean by these? And Ziba said, The donkeys are for the king's household to ride on and the bread and summer fruit for the young men to eat and the wine, that such as are faint in the wilderness may drink.

¹⁶ A man's gift makes room for him and brings him before great men.

³⁸ Joshua the son of Nun, who stands before you, he will go in there. Encourage him, for he will cause Israel to inherit it.

⁸ At that time Jehovah set apart the tribe of Levi, to bear the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, to stand before Jehovah to minister to him and to bless in his name, to this day.

⁹ Surely men of low degree are vanity and men of high degree are a lie. They will go up in the balances. They are together lighter than vanity.

⁹ It is better to take refuge in Jehovah than to put confidence in rulers.

³ Do not put your* trust in rulers, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help.

²⁹ See a man diligent in his business? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before insignificant men.

¹⁴ Now the Spirit of Jehovah departed from Saul and an evil spirit from Jehovah troubled him. ¹⁵ And Saul's servants said to him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubles you. ¹⁶ Let our lord now command your servants, who are before you, to seek out a man who is a skillful player on the harp. And it will happen, when the evil spirit from God is upon you, that he will play with his hand and you will be well.

¹⁰ And it happened on the morrow, that an evil spirit from God came mightily upon Saul and he prophesied in the midst of the house. And David played with his hand, as he did day by day and Saul had his spear in his hand. ¹¹ And Saul cast the spear, for he said, I will kill* David even to the wall. And David turned away from his presence twice.

⁴³ But the unclean spirit, whenever it has gone out of the man, goes through waterless places, seeking rest and does not find it. ⁴⁴ Then it says, I will return into my house from where I came out, and when it comes, it finds it unoccupied, having been swept and adorned. ⁴⁵ Then it travels and takes with itself seven other spirits more evil than itself and they enter and dwell there and the last state of that man becomes worse than the first. So it will also be to this evil generation.
