³⁰ I went by the field of the lazy man, and by the vineyard of the man without understanding;

⁸ As I have seen, the ones who plow iniquity and sow wickedness reap the same.

²⁷ Behold this: we have searched it; it is so. Hear it and know for yourself.

¹⁷ I will show you; hear me; and what I have seen I will declare,

²⁵ I have been young, and am old; yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, or his seed begging bread.

⁴² The upright shall see and rejoice; and all iniquity shall stop its mouth.

⁶ Go to the ant, sluggard; consider her ways and be wise; ⁷ who, having no guide, overseer, or ruler, ⁸ provides her food in the summer and gathers her food in the harvest. ⁹ How long will you sleep, O sluggard? When will you arise out of your sleep? ¹⁰ A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to lie down; ¹¹ so shall your poverty come as one who travels, and your need like an armed man. ¹² A worthless person, a wicked man walks with a crooked mouth, ¹³ winking with his eyes, speaking with his feet, teaching with his fingers; ¹⁴ perversity is in his heart; he is always planning mischief; he causes fighting. ¹⁵ Therefore his calamity shall come suddenly; he is quickly broken, and there is no healing. ¹⁶ These six Jehovah hates; yea, seven are hateful to his soul: ¹⁷ a proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, ¹⁸ a heart that plots wicked plans, feet hurrying to run to evil, ¹⁹ a false witness who speaks lies, and he who causes fighting among brothers.

³² Whoever commits adultery with a woman lacks understanding; he who does it destroys his own soul.

¹³ In the lips of him who has understanding, wisdom is found; but a rod is for the back of him who is without understanding.

¹¹ He who tills his land shall be satisfied with bread; but he who follows vanities lacks heart.

¹ So I returned, and considered all the oppressions that are done under the sun. And behold the tears of the oppressed ones, and they had no comforter! And on the side of those who oppressed them there was power, but they had no comforter. ² And I commended the dead who already have died, more than the living who are living now. ³ Yea, better than both is he who has not yet been, who has not seen the evil work that is done under the sun. ⁴ Again, I considered all labor, and every right work, that for this a man is envied by his neighbor. This is also vanity and vexation of spirit. ⁵ The fool folds his hands together, and eats his own flesh. ⁶ Better is a hand filled with rest than two fists with travail and vexation of spirit. ⁷ And I returned and saw vanity under the sun. ⁸ There is one alone, and there is not a second; yea, he has neither son nor brother; yet there is no end to all his labor; and his eyes are not satisfied with riches; and he says, For whom do I labor and take good from my soul? This is also vanity. Yes, it is an evil business.

¹⁵ All things I have seen in the days of my vanity; there is a just one who perishes in his righteousness, and there is a wicked one who prolongs life in his wickedness.

⁹ All this I have seen, and I gave my heart to every work that is done under the sun. There is a time in which one man rules over another to his own hurt. ¹⁰ And so I saw the wicked buried, and they came and went from the holy place. And they were forgotten in the city, these things that they had done. This is also vanity. ¹¹ Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.
