²⁹ Do not say, I will do so to him as he has done to me; I will give to the man according to his work.

He would not go, however, but blessed him. ²⁶ Then Absalom said, If not, please let my brother Amnon go with us? And the king said to him, Why should he go with you? ²⁷ But Absalom pressed him, so that he let Amnon and all the king's sons go with him. ²⁸ And Absalom had commanded his servants, saying, And watch when Amnon's heart is merry with wine, and when I say to you, Strike Amnon, you shall kill him. Do not fear. Have I not commanded you? Be courageous, and be brave.

²² Do not say, I will repay evil; wait on Jehovah, and He will save you.

²¹ If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink, ²² for you shall heap coals of fire upon his head, and Jehovah shall reward you.

³⁹ But I say to you, Do not resist evil. But whoever shall strike you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. ⁴⁰ And to him desiring to sue you, and to take away your tunic, let him have your coat also. ⁴¹ And whoever shall compel you to go a mile, go with him two. ⁴² Give to him who asks of you, and you shall not turn away from him who would borrow from you. ⁴³ You have heard that it was said, "You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy." ⁴⁴ But I say to you, Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who despitefully use you and persecute you,

¹⁷ Repay no one evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. ¹⁸ If it is possible, as far as is in you, being in peace with all men. ¹⁹ not avenging yourselves, beloved, but giving place to wrath; for it is written, "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay, says the Lord." ²⁰ Therefore if your enemy hungers, feed him. If he thirsts, give him drink. For in so doing you shall heap coals of fire on his head. ²¹ Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

¹⁵ See that none gives evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue the good, both towards one another and towards all.
