³⁰ But their scribes and Pharisees murmured against His disciples, saying, Why do you eat and drink with tax-collectors and sinners?

⁵ who say, Keep to yourself, do not come near me; for I am holier than you. These are a smoke in My nose, a fire that burns all the day.

²⁸ But what do you think? A man had two sons; and he came to the first and said, Son, go work in my vineyard today. ²⁹ He answered and said, I will not. But afterwards he repented and went. ³⁰ And he came to the second and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir; and did not go. ³¹ Which of the two did the will of his father? They said to Him, The first. Jesus said to them, Truly I say to you that the tax-collectors and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you. ³² For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him. But the tax-collectors and the harlots believed him. And when you had seen it, you did not repent afterwards so that you might believe him.

³ For the Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they immerse their hands with the fist, holding the tradition of the elders.

¹⁷ And it happened on one of the days, even He was teaching. And Pharisees and teachers of the Law were sitting by, who had come out of every village of Galilee and Judea and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was there, for the curing of them.

²¹ And the scribes and Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, except God alone?

²⁹ And all the people and the tax-collectors who heard Him justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John. ³⁰ But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, not being baptized by him.

³⁴ The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, Behold a gluttonous man and a winebibber, a friend of tax-collectors and sinners!

³⁹ But seeing this, the Pharisee who had invited Him, spoke within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what kind of woman this is who touches him, for she is a sinner.

¹ And all the tax-collectors and sinners drew near to Him in order to hear Him. ² And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receives sinners and eats with them.

¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed within himself in this way: God, I thank You that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax-collector.

⁷ And seeing, they all murmured, saying, He has gone in to stay with a sinful man.

⁹ And there arose a great cry. And the scribes who were on the Pharisees' side arose and strove, saying, We find no evil in this man. But if a spirit or an angel has spoken to him, let us not fight against God.
