¹ And He also spoke a parable to them to teach it is always right to pray, and not to faint, ² saying, A certain judge was in a certain city, not fearing God, nor respecting man. ³ And a widow was in that city. And she came to Him, saying, Avenge me of my adversary. ⁴ And he would not do so for a time. But afterward he said within himself, Though I do not fear God nor regard man, ⁵ yet because this widow troubles me, I will avenge her, that she not wear me down in the end. ⁶ And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge says. ⁷ And shall not God avenge His own elect who cry day and night to Him, though He has been long-suffering over them? ⁸ I say to you that He will avenge them speedily. Yet when the Son of Man comes, shall He find faith on the earth? ⁹ And He spoke this parable to certain ones who trusted in themselves, that they were righteous, and despised others: ¹⁰ Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a tax-collector. ¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed within himself in this way: God, I thank You that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax-collector. ¹² I fast twice on the Sabbath, I give tithes of all that I possess. ¹³ And standing afar off, the tax-collector would not even lift up his eyes to Heaven, but struck on his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner! ¹⁴ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself shall be abased, and he who humbles himself shall be exalted. ¹⁵ And they also brought infants to Him, that He might touch them. But when the disciples saw, they rebuked them. ¹⁶ But Jesus called them and said, Allow the little children to come to Me, and forbid them not. For of such is the kingdom of God. ¹⁷ Truly I say to you, Whoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no way enter into it. ¹⁸ And a certain ruler asked Him, saying, Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? ¹⁹ And Jesus said to him, Why do you call Me good? None is good except One, God. ²⁰ You know the commandments: Do not commit adultery, do not kill, do not steal, do not bear false witness, honor your father and your mother. ²¹ And he said, I have kept all these from my youth up. ²² And when Jesus heard these things, He said to him, Yet you lack one thing. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you shall have treasure in Heaven. And come, follow Me. ²³ And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful, for he was very rich. ²⁴ And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, He said, How hardly those having riches shall enter into the kingdom of God! ²⁵ For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye than for a rich one to enter into the kingdom of God. ²⁶ And the ones who heard said, And who can be saved? ²⁷ And He said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God. ²⁸ And Peter said, Lo, we have left all and have followed You. ²⁹ And He said to them, Truly I say to you, There is no one who has left house, or parents, or brothers, or wife, or children for the sake of the kingdom of God, ³⁰ who shall not receive many times more in this present time, and, in the world to come everlasting life. ³¹ And He took the Twelve and said to them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of Man will be accomplished. ³² For He will be delivered to the nations and will be mocked and insulted and spat on. ³³ And they will scourge Him and put Him to death, and the third day He will rise again. ³⁴ And they did not understand any of these things. And this saying was hidden from them, nor did they know the things which were spoken. ³⁵ And as He came near Jericho, it happened that a certain blind man sat by the roadside begging. ³⁶ And hearing the crowd pass by, he asked what it meant. ³⁷ And they told him that Jesus of Nazareth passed by. ³⁸ And he cried, saying, Jesus, Son of David! Have mercy on me. ³⁹ And they who were in front rebuked him that he should be quiet. But he cried so much the more, Son of David! Have mercy on me. ⁴⁰ And Jesus stood and commanded him to be brought to Him. And when he had come near, He asked him, ⁴¹ saying, What do you desire that I should do to you? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight. ⁴² And Jesus said to him, Receive your sight! Your faith has saved you. ⁴³ And immediately he received his sight and followed him, glorifying God. And when they saw, all the people gave praise to God.

¹⁴ Is anything too hard for Jehovah? At the time appointed I will return again, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.

For I fear him, lest he come and strike me, from mother to sons. ¹² And You said, I will surely do you good, and make your seed as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.

²⁴ And Jacob was left alone. And a Man wrestled there with him until the breaking of the day. ²⁵ And when He saw that He did not prevail against him, He touched the hollow of his thigh. ¹¹ Now I know that Jehovah is greater than all gods; for in the thing in which they were proved against them.

²¹ And you shall look out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating unjust gain. And place such over them to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens. ²² And let them judge the people at all times. And it shall be, every great matter they shall bring to you, but every small matter they shall judge. And make it easier for yourself, and they shall bear with you.

¹² Honor your father and your mother, so that your days may be long upon the land which Jehovah your God gives you. ¹³ You shall not kill. ¹⁴ You shall not commit adultery. ¹⁵ You shall not steal. ¹⁶ You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. ¹⁷ You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is your neighbor's.

³⁰ And all the tithe of the land, of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is Jehovah's. It is holy to Jehovah. ³¹ And if a man will at all redeem anything of his tithes, he shall add to it the fifth part of it. ³² And all the tithe of the herd, or of the flock, all that passes under the rod, a tenth shall be holy to Jehovah ³³ He shall not search whether it is good or bad, neither shall he change it. And if he changes it at all, then both it and the change of it shall be holy. It shall not be redeemed.

²⁴ But the tithes of the sons of Israel, which they offer as a heave offering to Jehovah, I have given to the Levites to inherit. Therefore I have said to them, Among the sons of Israel they shall have no inheritance.

⁴ And God met Balaam. And he said to Him, I have prepared seven altars, and I have offered upon the altar a bull and a ram.

¹⁶ Honor your father and your mother, as Jehovah your God has commanded you, so that your days may be made longer, and that it may go well with you in the land which Jehovah your God gives you. ¹⁷ You shall not kill. ¹⁸ And you shall not commit adultery. ¹⁹ And you shall not steal. ²⁰ And you shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. ²¹ And you shall not lust after your neighbor's wife, nor shall you covet your neighbor's house, his field, or his manservant, or his maidservant, his ox, or his ass, or any thing that is your neighbor's.

¹⁰ And it shall be when Jehovah your God has brought you into the land which He swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give you great and good cities which you did not build, ¹¹ and houses full of every good thing which you did not fill, and wells which are dug, but which you did not dig, vineyards and olive trees which you did not plant, and you shall eat and be full, ¹² you shall be on guard lest you forget Jehovah who brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of slaves.

¹¹ Beware that you do not forget Jehovah your God, in not keeping His commandments, and His judgments, and His statutes, which I command you today, ¹² lest when you have eaten and are full and have built good houses and lived in them, ¹³ and when your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and your gold is multiplied, and all that you have is multiplied, ¹⁴ then your heart might be lifted up, and you might forget Jehovah your God who brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of slaves. ¹⁵ He led you through the great and terrible wilderness, with fiery serpents and scorpions and thirsty ground, where there was no water, who brought you forth water out of the rock of flint, ¹⁶ who fed you in the wilderness with manna which your fathers did not know, so that He might humble you and so that He might prove you, to do you good in your latter end, ¹⁷ and so that you might not say in your heart, My power and the might of my hand has gotten me this wealth.

¹⁹ Cursed is he who perverts the judgment of the stranger, fatherless, and widow. And all the people shall say, Amen.

¹¹ your little ones, your wives, and your stranger that is in your camp, from the cutter of your wood to the drawer of your water;

¹² Gather the people, men and women and the little ones, and your stranger who is within your gates, so that they may hear and that they may learn and fear Jehovah your God, and be careful to do all the words of this Law,

⁹ who said to his father and to his mother, I have not seen him; and he has not acknowledged his brothers, nor knew his own son, for they have observed Your Word and kept Your covenant.

¹⁶ And it happened because she distressed him with her words daily, and urged him; and his soul was grieved to death.

²³ And they cried to the sons of Dan. And they turned their faces and said to Micah, What ails you, that you have been called together? ²⁴ And he said, You have taken away my gods which I made, and the priest, and you have gone away. And what more do I have? And what is this you say to me, What ails you?

¹⁸ And she said, Let your handmaid find grace in your sight. So the woman went her way and ate, and her face was no longer sad.

²⁴ And when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bulls and one ephah of flour, and a skin of wine, and brought him to the house of Jehovah in Shiloh. And the child was young.

⁸ He raises up the poor out of the dust; He lifts up the needy from the dunghill to set them among princes; yea, He causes them to inherit a throne of honor; for to Jehovah are the pillars of the earth; and He sets the habitable world on them.

¹³ And Samuel came to Saul. And Saul said to him, You are blessed of Jehovah. I have done the command of Jehovah.

¹² May Jehovah judge between me and you, and may Jehovah avenge me of you. But my hand shall not be on you. ¹³ As the ancient proverb says, Wickedness proceeds from the wicked. But my hand shall not be on you. ¹⁴ After whom has the king of Israel come out? After whom do you pursue? After a dead dog? After a flea? ¹⁵ May Jehovah therefore be judge, and judge between you and me, and see, and plead my cause, and deliver me out of your hand.

¹⁰ And David said, As Jehovah lives, except Jehovah strike him, or his day shall come, and he dies, or he goes down to battle and is consumed, ¹¹ far be it from me by Jehovah, from putting forth my hand against Jehovah's anointed. And now, please take the spear at his head and the cruse of water, and we will go.

²⁴ And Absalom came to the king and said, Behold now, your servant has shearers. Please let the king and his servants go with your servant. ²⁵ And the king said to Absalom, No, my son, let us not all go now, lest we be too heavy upon you. And he pressed him. He would not go, however, but blessed him. ²⁶ Then Absalom said, If not, please let my brother Amnon go with us? And the king said to him, Why should he go with you? ²⁷ But Absalom pressed him, so that he let Amnon and all the king's sons go with him.

⁵ And the king said to her, What ails you? And she answered, I am indeed a widow, and my husband died. ⁶ And your handmaid had two sons, and the two of them fought together in the field. And there was no deliverer between them, but the one struck the other and killed him. ⁷ And behold, the whole family has risen against your handmaid. And they said, Deliver him who struck his brother so that we may kill him for the life of his brother whom he killed. And we will destroy the heir also. And so they shall put out my coal which is left, and shall leave to my husband neither name nor remainder upon the face of the earth. ⁸ And the king said to the woman, Go to your house, and I will give command concerning you. ⁹ And the woman of Tekoah said to the king, My lord, O king, may the iniquity be on me and on my father's house. And may the king and his throne be without guilt. ¹⁰ And the king said, Whoever speaks to you, you also bring him to me, and he shall not touch you any more. ¹¹ Then she said, Please let the king remember Jehovah your God, that you would not allow the avengers of blood to destroy any more, lest they should destroy my son. And he said, As the Lord lives, there shall not one hair of your son fall to the earth. ¹² Then the woman said, Please let your handmaid speak one more word to my lord the king. And he said, Say on! ¹³ And the woman said, Why then have you thought such a thing against the people of God? For the king speaks this thing as one who is at fault, in that the king does not bring his banished one home again. ¹⁴ For we must all die, and we are as water spilled on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again. And God does not take a life, but has devised plans so that the outcast is not cast out from Him. ¹⁵ And now I have come to speak of this thing to my lord the king, because the people have made me afraid. And your handmaid said, I will now speak to the king. It may be that the king will do what his handmaid has asked. ¹⁶ For the king will hear, to deliver his handmaid out of the hand of the man who would destroy me and my son together out of the inheritance of God. ¹⁷ And your handmaid said, The word of my lord the king shall now be comforting. For as an angel of God, so is my lord the king, to see what is good and bad. And Jehovah your God will be with you. ¹⁸ And the king answered and said to the woman, Please do not hide from me the thing that I shall ask you. And the woman said, Let my lord the king now speak. ¹⁹ And the king said, Is the hand of Joab with you in all this? And the woman answered and said, As your soul lives, my lord the king, none shall turn to the right hand or to the left from anything which my lord the king has spoken. For your servant Joab commanded me. And he put all these words in the mouth of your handmaid. ²⁰ Your servant Joab has done this thing to change the face of the matter. And my lord is wise according to the wisdom of an angel of God, to know all that is in the land. ²¹ And the king said to Joab, Behold now, I have done this thing. Go therefore and bring the young man Absalom again. ²² And Joab fell to the ground on his face, and bowed himself, and thanked the king. And Joab said, Today your servant knows that I have found grace in your sight, my lord, O, king, in that the king has done what your servant has asked. ²³ And Joab arose and went to Geshur, and brought Absalom to Jerusalem. ²⁴ And the king said, Let him turn to his own house, and let him not see my face. And Absalom returned to his own house, and did not see the king's face.

⁵ In Gibeon Jehovah appeared to Solomon in a dream by night. And God said, Ask what I shall give you! ⁶ And Solomon said, You have shown to Your servant David my father great mercy, according as he walked before You in truth and in righteousness and in uprightness of heart with You. And You have kept this great kindness for him, that You have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is today. ⁷ And now, O Jehovah my God, You have made Your servant king instead of David my father. And I am a little child; I do not know to go out or come in! ⁸ And Your servant is in the midst of Your people whom You have chosen, a numerous people who cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude. ⁹ And give to Your servant an understanding heart, to judge Your people, to discern between good and bad. For who is able to judge this, Your great people? ¹⁰ And the word was good in the eyes of Jehovah, that Solomon had asked this thing. ¹¹ And God said to him, Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked for yourself long life, and have not asked riches for yourself, nor have asked the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to judge justly, ¹² behold, I have done according to your words. Lo, I have given you a wise and an understanding heart, so that there was none like you before you, and after you none shall arise like you. ¹³ And I also have given you that which you have not asked, both riches and honor, so that there shall not be any among the kings like you all your days. ¹⁴ And if you will walk in My ways, to keep My statutes and My commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days. ¹⁵ And Solomon awoke, and, behold, it was a dream. And he came to Jerusalem and stood before the ark of the covenant of Jehovah and offered up burnt offerings, and offered peace offerings, and made a feast to all his servants.

³⁰ And You shall listen to the cry of Your servant, and of Your people Israel, when they shall pray toward this place, and hear in Heaven Your dwelling-place, and when You hear, forgive!

¹⁶ And he said, Come with me and see my zeal for Jehovah. And they made him ride in his chariot.

⁵ Return again and tell Hezekiah the leader of My people, So says Jehovah, the God of David your father, I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears. Behold, I will heal you. On the third day you shall go up to the house of Jehovah.

⁸ And Hezekiah said to Isaiah, What shall be the sign that Jehovah will heal me, and that I shall go up into the house of Jehovah the third day?

³ But there are good things found in you, in that you have taken away the Asherahs out of the land and have prepared your heart to seek God. ⁴ And Jehoshaphat lived at Jerusalem. And he went out again among the people from Beer-sheba to mount Ephraim, and brought them back to Jehovah, the God of their fathers. ⁵ And he set judges in the land, in all the fortified cities of Judah, city by city. ⁶ And he said to the judges, Take heed what you do. For you do not judge for man, but for Jehovah, who is with you in the judgment. ⁷ And now let the fear of Jehovah be on you. Be careful and act wisely, for there is no iniquity with Jehovah our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of gifts. ⁸ And Jehoshaphat set some of the Levites and of the priests and of the chief of the fathers of Israel in Jerusalem for the judgment of Jehovah, and for controversies, when they returned to Jerusalem. ⁹ And he charged them, saying, And you shall act in the fear of Jehovah, faithfully, and with a perfect heart.

⁹ You have sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.

²⁹ For they have humiliated you, and you shall say, Pride! And He shall save the lowly of eyes.

⁴ How then can man be justified with God? Or how can one who is born of a woman be clean?

⁸ For what is the hope of the ungodly when He cuts off, when God takes away his soul? ⁹ Will God hear his cry when trouble comes on him? ¹⁰ Will he delight himself in the Almighty? Will he always call on God?

⁷ when I went out to the gate by the city; when I prepared my seat in the street! ⁸ The young men saw me and hid themselves; and the aged arose and stood up. ⁹ The rulers held back from talking, and laid their hand on their mouth. ¹⁰ The noble's voice was subdued, and their tongue clung to the roof of their mouth. ¹¹ For the ear heard and blessed me. Or can you thunder with a voice like His? ¹⁰ Adorn yourself now with majesty and grandeur, and with glory and honor clothe yourself. ¹¹ Pour forth the rage of your wrath; and behold everyone who is proud, and abase him. ¹² Look on everyone who is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place. ¹³ Hide them in the dust together; and bind their faces in darkness.

² I know that You can do all, and not any purpose is withheld from You.

You have set Your glory above the heavens! ² Out of the mouths of babes and sucklings You have ordained strength, because of ones vexing You, to cause the enemy and the avenger to cease. ³ When I look at Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars which You have established; ⁴ what is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man, that You visit him?

⁸ And He shall judge the world in righteousness; He shall judge the peoples in uprightness.

³ For the wicked boasts of his heart's desire, and blesses the covetous whom Jehovah despises.

¹⁵ Break the arm of the wicked and the evil one; seek out his wickedness, until You find none. ¹⁶ Jehovah is King forever and ever; the nations have perished out of His land. ¹⁷ Jehovah, You have heard the desire of the humble; You will prepare their heart, You will cause Your ear to hear, ¹⁸ to judge the fatherless and the oppressed, so that the man of the earth may no more terrify.

For dogs have circled around Me; the band of spoilers have hemmed Me in, piercers of My hands and My feet. ¹⁷ I can count all My bones; they look and stare at Me. ¹⁸ They divide My garments among them and cast lots for My clothing. ¹⁹ But You, O Jehovah, be not far from Me; O My strength, hurry to help Me! ²⁰ Deliver My soul from the sword, My only one from the dog's hand. ²¹ Save Me from the lion's mouth; from the wild oxen's horns. ²² And when He had spoken this way, one of the officers who stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Do you answer the high priest so?
