¹ Truly, truly, I say to you, He who does not enter into the sheepfold by the door, but going up by another way, that one is a thief and a robber.

¹⁰ His watchmen are blind; they are all ignorant; they are all dumb dogs who cannot bark, dreaming, lying down, loving to slumber. ¹¹ Yea, they are greedy dogs which can never have enough; and they are shepherds who cannot understand. They all look to their own way, every one for his gain, to his own end. ¹² They say, come, Let us take wine, and let us gulp strong drink; and tomorrow shall be like today, and much more abundant.

¹⁵ So Jehovah says this concerning the prophets who prophesy in My name, and I did not send them; yet they say, Sword and famine shall not be in this land; by sword and famine those prophets shall be consumed.

¹⁶ So says Jehovah of Hosts, Do not listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you. They make you vain; they speak a vision from their own heart, not out of the mouth of Jehovah. ¹⁷ They still say to those who despise Me, Jehovah has said, You shall have peace! And they say to everyone who walks after the stubbornness of his own heart, No evil shall come on you!

²¹ I have not sent these prophets, yet they ran; I have not spoken to them, yet they prophesied.

³² Jehovah says, Behold, I am against those who prophesy false dreams and tell them, and cause My people to go astray by their lies and by their lightness. Yet I did not send them nor command them; therefore they shall not profit this people at all, says Jehovah.

¹⁵ Then the prophet Jeremiah said to Hananiah the prophet, Hear now, Hananiah. Jehovah has not sent you, but you make this people to trust in a lie. ¹⁶ Therefore so says Jehovah, Behold, I will drive you from off the face of the earth. You shall die this year, because you have taught rebellion against Jehovah. ¹⁷ So Hananiah the prophet died the same year in the seventh month.

³¹ Send to all the exiles, saying, So says Jehovah concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite: Because Shemaiah has prophesied to you, and I did not send him, and he caused you to trust in a lie, ³² therefore so says Jehovah, Behold, I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite and his seed. He shall not have a man to dwell among this people; nor shall he behold the good which I shall do for My people, says Jehovah, because he has taught rebellion against Jehovah.

² Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel who prophesy. And say to those who prophesy out of their own hearts, Hear the Word of Jehovah: ³ So says the Lord Jehovah, Woe to the foolish prophets who follow their own spirit and have seen nothing! ⁴ O Israel, your prophets are like the foxes in the deserts. ⁵ You have not gone up into the breaks, nor built the wall for the house of Israel, that it might stand in the battle in the day of Jehovah. ⁶ They have seen vanity and lying divination, saying, Jehovah says. And Jehovah has not sent them; but they hoped to confirm their word.

² Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel. Prophesy and say to them, So says the Lord Jehovah to the shepherds: Woe to the shepherds of Israel who feed themselves! Should not the shepherds feed the flocks? ³ You eat the fat and clothe yourselves with the wool; you kill the fat ones, but you do not feed the flock. ⁴ You have not made the weak strong, nor have you healed the sick, nor have you bound up the broken. You have not brought again those driven away, nor have you sought that which was lost; but you have ruled them with force and with cruelty. ⁵ And they were scattered for lack of a shepherd. And they became food to all the beasts of the field when they were scattered.

⁴ For so says Jehovah my God: Feed the flock of the slaughter, ⁵ those buying them kill them, and hold themselves not guilty. And those who sell them say, Blessed be Jehovah, for I am rich; and their shepherds do not pity them.

¹⁶ For lo, I will raise up a shepherd in the land who will not care for those going to ruin, nor will he seek the young, nor will heal that which is broken, nor will he feed that which stands. But he shall eat the flesh of the fat and tear off their hoofs. ¹⁷ Woe to the worthless shepherd who abandons the flock! The sword shall be on his arm and on his right eye; his arm shall be completely dried up, and his right eye shall be utterly darkened.

¹⁵ Beware of false prophets who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

¹⁶ Woe to you, blind guides, saying, Whoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor. ¹⁷ Fools and blind! For which is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifies the gold? ¹⁸ And, Whoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gift that is on it, he is a debtor! ¹⁹ Fools and blind! For which is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifies the gift? ²⁰ Therefore whoever shall swear by the altar swears by it, and by all things on it. ²¹ And whoever shall swear by the temple, swears by it and by Him who dwells in it. ²² And he who shall swear by Heaven swears by the throne of God, and by Him who sits on it. ²³ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithes of mint and dill and cummin, and you have left undone the weightier matters of the Law, judgment, mercy, and faith. You ought to have done these and not to leave the other undone. ²⁴ Blind guides who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel! ²⁵ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you cleanse the outside of the cup and of the dish, but inside they are full of extortion and excess. ²⁶ Blind Pharisee! First cleanse the inside of the cup and of the dish, so that the outside of them may be clean also. ²⁷ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which indeed appear beautiful outside, but inside they are full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness. ²⁸ Even so you also appear righteous to men outwardly, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

³ Jesus answered and said to him, Truly, truly, I say to you, Unless a man is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

⁸ All who came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. ⁹ I am the door. If anyone enters in by Me, he shall be saved and shall go in and out and find pasture. ¹⁰ The thief does not come except to steal and to kill and to destroy. I have come so that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

¹⁵ And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace and bring glad tidings of good things!"

¹⁸ For they who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches they deceive the hearts of the simple.

¹³ For such ones are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. ¹⁴ Did not even Satan marvelously transform himself into an angel of light? ¹⁵ Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves as ministers of righteousness, whose end shall be according to their works.

⁸ Therefore He says, "When He ascended up on high, He led captivity captive and gave gifts to men." ⁹ (Now that He ascended, what is it but that He also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? ¹⁰ He who descended is the same also as He who ascended up far above all heavens, that He might fill all things.) ¹¹ And truly He gave some to be apostles, and some to be prophets, and some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, ¹² for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ.

¹¹ whose mouth you must stop, who subvert whole houses, teaching things not right for the sake of ill gain.

⁴ And no man takes this honor to himself, but he who is called of God, as Aaron was.

¹⁰ About which salvation the prophets sought out and searched out, prophesying concerning the grace for you;

¹ But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who secretly will bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing on themselves swift destruction.

³ And through covetousness they will use you for gain with well-turned words; for whom judgment from of old does not linger, and their destruction does not sleep.

¹⁴ having eyes full of adultery and never ceasing from sin, alluring unstable souls, having a heart exercised with covetousness. They are cursed children ¹⁵ who have forsaken the right way and have gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness, ¹⁶ but had reproof of his lawbreaking, a dumb ass speaking in a man's voice, held back the madness of the prophet. ¹⁷ These are wells without water, clouds driven with a tempest, for whom the blackness of darkness is reserved forever. ¹⁸ For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they lure through the lusts of the flesh, by unbridled lust, the ones who were escaping from those who live in error; ¹⁹ promising them liberty, they themselves are the slaves of corruption. For by whom anyone has been overcome, even to this one he has been enslaved.

¹ Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but try the spirits to see if they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
