³¹ And they come to you as the people come, and they sit before you as My people, and they hear your words. But they will not do them. For with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goes after their unjust gain.

²⁸ And Jehovah heard the voice of your words when you spoke to me. And Jehovah said to me, I have heard the voice of the words of this people, which they have spoken to you. They have well said all that they have spoken. ²⁹ Oh that there were such a heart in them that they would fear Me and keep all My commandments always, so that it might be well with them and with their sons forever!

³⁶ But they flattered Him with their mouths, and they lied to Him with their tongues. ³⁷ For their heart was not right with Him, neither were they faithful in His covenant.

¹³ But the Word of Jehovah was to them precept on precept, precept on precept; line on line, line on line; here a little, there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken and snared and taken.

¹³ And Jehovah said, Because this people draw near Me with their mouth, and with their lips honor Me, but have removed their heart far from Me, and their fear toward Me is taught by the command of men;

¹⁶ So says Jehovah, Stand in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths where the good way is, and walk in it, and you shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk in it. ¹⁷ Also I set watchmen over you, saying, Listen to the sound of the ram's horn. But they said, We will not listen.

³³ And when this people, or the prophet, or a priest, shall ask you, saying, What is the burden of Jehovah? You shall then say to them, What burden? I will even forsake you, says Jehovah. ³⁴ And as for the prophet, and the priest, and the people, who shall say, The burden of Jehovah, I will even punish that man and his house. ³⁵ So you shall say each one to his neighbor, and each one to his brother, What has Jehovah answered? And what has Jehovah spoken? ³⁶ And you shall mention the burden of Jehovah no more. For every man's word shall be his burden; for you have perverted the Words of the living God, of Jehovah of Hosts our God. ³⁷ So you shall say to the prophet, What has Jehovah answered you? And what has Jehovah spoken? ³⁸ But since you say, The burden of Jehovah; therefore so says Jehovah, Because you say this word; the burden of Jehovah; and I have sent to you saying, You shall not say, The burden of Jehovah;

¹ And it happened when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking to all the people all the Words of Jehovah their God, for which Jehovah their God had sent him to them, all these Words, ² Azariah the son of Hoshaiah, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the proud men, spoke then, saying to Jeremiah, You speak falsely! Jehovah our God has not sent you to say, Do not go to Egypt to live there. ³ But Baruch the son of Neriah is inciting you against us, to deliver us into the hand of the Chaldeans, that they might put us to death and to exile us to Babylon. ⁴ So Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the commanders of the forces, and all the people, did not obey the voice of Jehovah to live in the land of Judah. ⁵ But Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the commanders of the forces, took all the remnant of Judah who had returned from all the nations (where they had been driven) to dwell in the land of Judah; ⁶ men, and women, and children, and the king's daughters, and every person that Nebuzaradan the chief of the executioners had left with Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Jeremiah the prophet, and Baruch the son of Neriah. ⁷ So they came into the land of Egypt, for they did not obey the voice of JehovahORD. So they came to Tahpanhes.

¹⁶ As for the Word that you have spoken to us in the name of Jehovah, we will not listen to you.

¹ And it was in the sixth year, in the sixth month, on the fifth of the month, I was sitting in my house, and the elders of Judah were sitting before me. And the hand of the Lord Jehovah fell on me there.

¹ And some of the elders of Israel came to me and sat before me.

¹ And it happened in the seventh year, in the fifth month, the tenth of the month, some of the elders of Israel came to ask of Jehovah, and sat before me. ² And came the Word of Jehovah to me, saying, ³ Son of man, speak to the elders of Israel and say to them, So says the Lord Jehovah: Have you come to ask of Me? As I live, says the Lord Jehovah, I will not be inquired of by you. ⁴ Will you judge them, son of man, will you judge them? Cause them to know the abominations of their fathers. ⁵ And say to them, So says the Lord Jehovah: In the day that I chose Israel, and lifted up My hand to the seed of the house of Jacob, and made Myself known to them in the land of Egypt; when I lifted up My hand to them, saying, I am Jehovah your God; ⁶ in the day that I lifted up My hand to them, to bring them out from the land of Egypt into a land that I had searched out for them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands; ⁷ then I said to them, Let each man throw away the abominations of his eyes, and do not defile yourselves with the idols of Egypt. I am Jehovah your God. ⁸ But they rebelled against Me and would not listen to Me. They did not each man throw away the abominations of their eyes, nor did they forsake the idols of Egypt. And I said, I will pour out My fury against them to fulfill My anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt. ⁹ But I worked for My name's sake, that it should not be profaned before the nations among whom they were, for I made Myself known to them in their eyes, by bringing them out of the land of Egypt. ¹⁰ And I caused them to go out from the land of Egypt, and brought them into the wilderness. ¹¹ And I gave them My statutes and showed them My judgments, which if a man do, he shall even live in them. ¹² And also I gave them My sabbaths to be a sign between Me and them, that they might know that I am Jehovah who sets them apart. ¹³ But the house of Israel rebelled against Me in the wilderness; they did not walk in My statutes, and they despised My judgments, which if a man does, he shall even live in them. And they greatly profaned My sabbaths. And I said, I will pour out My fury on them in the wilderness to destroy them. ¹⁴ But I worked for My name's sake, so that it should not be profaned before the nations in whose sight I brought them out. ¹⁵ And also I lifted up My hand to them in the wilderness, that I would not bring them into the land which I had given them, flowing with milk and honey; it is the glory of all lands; ¹⁶ because they despised My judgments and walked not in My sabbaths; and they profaned My sabbaths; for their heart went after their idols. ¹⁷ But My eye spared them from destroying them, nor did I make an end of them in the wilderness. ¹⁸ But I said to their sons in the wilderness, Do not walk in the statutes of your fathers, nor observe their judgments, nor defile yourselves with their idols. ¹⁹ I am Jehovah your God. Walk in My statutes, and keep My judgments, and do them, ²⁰ and keep My sabbaths holy; and they shall be a sign between Me and you, that you may know that I am Jehovah your God. ²¹ But the sons rebelled against Me. They did not walk in My statutes, nor kept My judgments to do them; the judgments which, if a man do, he shall even live in them; they profaned My sabbaths and I said I would pour out My fury on them, to fulfill My anger against them in the wilderness. ²² But I withdrew My hand and worked for My name's sake, that it should not be profaned in the eyes of the nations, from whom I brought them out in their eyes. ²³ I also lifted up My hand to them in the wilderness, that I would scatter them among the nations and scatter them through the lands, ²⁴ because they had not done My judgments, but had despised My sabbaths and had profaned My sabbaths, and their eyes were after their fathers' idols. ²⁵ Also I gave them statutes not good, and judgments by which they should not live. ²⁶ And I defiled them in their own gifts, in that they caused all that open the womb to pass through the fire, that I might waste them, to the end that they might know that I am Jehovah. ²⁷ Therefore, son of man, speak to the house of Israel and say to them, So says the Lord Jehovah: Yet in this your fathers have blasphemed Me, in that they have committed a sin against Me. ²⁸ When I had brought them into the land for which I lifted up My hand to give it to them, then they saw every high hill, and all the thick trees, and they offered their sacrifices there. And there they offered their provoking gifts. There also they made their sweet aroma, and poured out their drink offerings there. ²⁹ And I said to them, What is the high place to which you go? And the name of it is called High Place to this day. ³⁰ Therefore say to the house of Israel, So says the Lord Jehovah: Are you defiled in the same way as your fathers? And do you go whoring after their abominations? ³¹ For when you offer your gifts, when you make your sons to pass through the fire, you defile yourselves with all your idols, even to this day. And shall I be inquired of by you, O house of Israel? As I Live, says the Lord Jehovah, I will not be inquired of by you. ³² And what comes up on your spirit shall not happen at all, that you say, We will be like the nations, like the families of the countries, to serve wood and stone.

²⁷ Her rulers in her midst are like wolves tearing the prey, to shed blood and to destroy souls, to get unjust gain.

²⁴ No one can serve two masters. For either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will hold to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

²⁴ Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on a rock. ²⁵ And the rain came down, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house. And it did not fall, for it was founded on a rock. ²⁶ And everyone who hears these sayings of Mine and does not do them shall be compared to a foolish man who built his house on the sand. ²⁷ And the rain came down, and the floods came, and the wind blew and beat on that house. And it fell, and great was its fall.

²² And that sown into the thorns is this: he who hears the Word; and the anxiety of this world, and the deceit of riches, choke the Word, and he becomes unfruitful.

²² But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful; for he had great possessions.

⁴⁸ He is like a man who built a house and dug deep and laid the foundation on a rock; and a flood occurring, the stream burst against that house and could not shake it; for it was founded on a rock. ⁴⁹ But he who hears and does not perform, is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, on which the stream burst, and immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house was great.

²¹ And He answered and said to them, My mother and My brothers are those who hear the Word of God and do it.

³⁹ And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus' feet and heard His word.

²⁸ But He said, No; rather, blessed are they who hear the Word of God and keep it.

Take your ease, eat drink and be merry. ²⁰ But God said to him, Fool! This night your soul shall be required of you, then whose shall be those things which you have prepared? ²¹ So is he who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.

¹⁴ And being money-lovers, all the Pharisees also heard all these things. And they derided Him.

³³ Therefore I immediately sent to you, and you have done well to come. Now therefore we are all here present before God to hear all things that are commanded you by God.

⁵ For you know this, that no fornicator, or unclean person, or covetous one (who is an idolater), has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

⁹ But they who will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts which plunge men into destruction and perdition. ¹⁰ For the love of money is a root of all evils, of which some having lusted after, they were seduced from the faith and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

²² But become doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. ²³ For if anyone is a hearer of the Word and not a doer, he is like a man studying his natural face in a mirror. ²⁴ For he studied himself and went his way, and immediately he forgot what he was like.

¹⁴ My brothers, what profit is it if a man says he has faith and does not have works? Can faith save him? ¹⁵ If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, ¹⁶ and if one of you says to them, Go in peace, be warmed and filled, but you do not give them those things which are needful to the body, what good is it?

¹⁷ But whoever has this world's goods and sees his brother having need, and shuts up his bowels from him, how does the love of God dwell in him? ¹⁸ My children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.
