¹⁷ And after the death of Jehoiada the rulers of Judah came and bowed down to the king. And the king listened to them.

²⁷ For I know your rebellion and your stiff neck. Behold, while I am still alive with you today, you have been rebellious against Jehovah. And how much more after my death?

⁸ But he departed from the advice which the old men gave him and listened to the young men who were brought up with him, who stood before him. ⁹ And he said to them, What advice do you give that we may return answer to this people, who have spoken to me, saying, Lighten the yoke which your father put on us? ¹⁰ And the young men who were brought up with him spoke to him saying, In this way shall you answer the people who spoke to you, saying, Your father made our yoke heavy, but you lighten our yoke, this you shall say to them, My little finger shall be thicker than my father's loins.

³ He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab. For his mother was his counselor to do wickedly. ⁴ And he did evil in the sight of Jehovah like the house of Ahab. For they were his counselors after the death of his father, to his ruin.

²¹ With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him. ²² He goes after her immediately, like an ox goes to the slaughter, or like a fool to the correction of the stocks; ²³ until a dart strikes through his liver; as a bird hastens to the snare and does not know that it is for his soul.

¹⁹ A gossip is a revealer of secrets; so do not mix with him who flatters with his lips.

⁸ As he who binds a stone in a sling, so is he who gives honor to a fool.

²⁸ A lying tongue hates those afflicted by it, and a flattering mouth works ruin.

⁵ A man who flatters his neighbor spreads a net for his feet.

¹² If a ruler listens to lies, all his servants are wicked.

³² And he will ruin by flattery those who do evil against the covenant. But the people who know their God will be strong and will work.

²⁹ For I know this, that after my departure grievous wolves shall enter in among you, not sparing the flock. ³⁰ Also men shall arise from your own selves, speaking perverse things in order to draw disciples away after them.

¹⁵ And I will also be diligent to cause you to always have memory of these things after my departure.
