¹ And David fled from Naioth in Ramah, and came and said before Jonathan, What have I done? What is my iniquity, and what my sin before your father, that he seeks my life?

³ Behold, here I am. Witness against me before Jehovah and before His anointed. Whose ox have I taken? Or whose ass have I taken? Or whom have I defrauded? Whom have I oppressed? Or from whose hand have I received a bribe, to blind my eyes with it? And I will restore it to you.

¹⁹ And it was told to Saul, saying, Behold, David is at Naioth in Ramah. ²⁰ And Saul sent messengers to take David. And when they saw the company of the prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing as appointed over them, the Spirit of God came on the messengers of Saul, and they also prophesied. ²¹ And they told Saul, and he sent other messengers, and they also prophesied. And Saul sent messengers the third time, and they prophesied also. ²² And he also went to Ramah, and came to a great well in Sechu. And he asked and said, Where are Samuel and David? And one said, Behold, at Naioth in Ramah. ²³ And he went there to Naioth in Ramah. And the Spirit of God was on him also, and going on he went and prophesied, until he came to Naioth in Ramah. ²⁴ And he stripped off his clothes also, and prophesied before Samuel, even he. And he lay down disrobed all that day and all that night. Because of this they say, Is Saul also among the prophets?

²⁶ And Saul went on this side of the mountain, and David and his men on that side of the mountain. And David hurried to get away before Saul. For Saul and his men were encircling David and his men, to take them. ²⁷ And a messenger came to Saul, saying, Hurry and come! For the Philistines have invaded the land. ²⁸ And Saul returned from pursuing David, and went against the Philistines. Therefore they called that place, The Rock of the Division.

⁹ And David said to Saul, Why do you hear man's words, saying, Behold, David seeks to do you evil?

¹¹ And, my father, behold! Yes, see the skirt of your robe in my hand. For in that I cut off the skirt of your robe and did not kill you, know and see that there is neither evil nor transgression in my hand, and I have not sinned against you. Yet you hunt my soul to take it.

¹⁷ And he said to David, You are more righteous than I, for you have rewarded me with good, but I have rewarded you evil.

³ O Jehovah my God, if I have done this; if there is iniquity in my hands; ⁴ if I have rewarded evil to my friend, or if I have delivered one oppressing me without cause; ⁵ let the enemy persecute my soul and take it; yea, let him trample down my life on the earth and lay my honor in the dust. Selah.

²⁰ Jehovah rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands He has repaid me. ²¹ For I have kept the ways of Jehovah, and have not wickedly departed from my God. ²² For all His judgments were before me, and I did not put away His Precepts from me. ²³ I was also upright before Him, and I kept myself from my iniquity. ²⁴ And Jehovah has returned to me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in His eyes.

⁶ Blessed is Jehovah, who has not given us as a prey to their teeth. ⁷ Our soul has escaped like a bird out of the snare of the fowlers; the snare is broken, and we have escaped. ⁸ Our help is in the name of Jehovah, who made the heavens and earth.

¹² For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity; not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God; we have had our conduct in the world, and more abundantly toward you.

⁹ The Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptation, and to reserve the unjust for a day of judgment, to be punished,

²¹ Beloved, if our heart does not accuse us, we have confidence toward God.
