¹ And Elijah the Tishbite, of the sojourners of Gilead, said to Ahab, As Jehovah, the God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, except according to my word. ² And the Word of Jehovah came to him, saying, ³ Go away from here and turn eastward, and hide yourself by the brook Cherith, before Jordan. ⁴ And it shall be, you shall drink of the brook. And I have commanded the ravens to feed you there. ⁵ So he went and did according to the Word of Jehovah. For he went and lived by the torrent Cherith, before Jordan. ⁶ And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the torrent. ⁷ And it happened after a while, the torrent dried up, because there had been no rain in the land. ⁸ And the Word of Jehovah came to him, saying, ⁹ Arise, go to Zarephath which belongs to Sidon, and live there. Behold, I have commanded a widow to keep you there. ¹⁰ And he arose and went to Zarephath, and came in to the entrance of the city, and, behold, the widow was gathering sticks. And he called to her and said, Please, bring me a little water in a vessel so that I may drink. ¹¹ And as she was going to bring it, he called to her and said, Please, bring me a piece of bread in your hand. ¹² And she said, As Jehovah your God lives, I do not have a cake, but only a handful of meal in a pitcher and a little oil in a jar. And behold, I am gathering two sticks, so that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, so that we may eat it and die. ¹³ And Elijah said to her, Do not fear, go. Do as you have said. But first make me a little cake of it, and bring it to me. And then make for you and for your son. ¹⁴ For so says Jehovah, the God of Israel, The pitcher of meal shall not be emptied, nor shall the jar of oil fail, until the day that Jehovah sends rain on the earth. ¹⁵ And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah. And she and he and her house ate many days; ¹⁶ the pitcher of meal was not consumed, and the jar of oil did not fail, according to the Word of Jehovah which He spoke by Elijah. ¹⁷ And it happened after these things the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick. And his sickness was so severe that there was no breath left in him. ¹⁸ And she said to Elijah, What do I have to do with you, O man of God? Have you come to me to call my sin to remembrance and to kill my son? ¹⁹ And he said to her, Give me your son. And he took him out of her bosom and carried him up into a loft, where he stayed, and laid him on his own bed. ²⁰ And he cried to Jehovah, and said, O Jehovah my God, have You also brought evil on the widow with whom I am staying, by slaying her son? ²¹ And he stretched himself on the child three times, and cried to Jehovah, and said, O Jehovah my God, please let this child's soul come to him again. ²² And Jehovah heard the voice of Elijah, and the soul of the child came into him again, and he lived. ²³ And Elijah took the child and brought him down out of the room into the house and delivered him to his mother. And Elijah said, See! Your son lives! ²⁴ And the woman said to Elijah, Now I know this, that you are a man of God, and that the Word of Jehovah in your mouth is truth.

²² Noah did so, according to all that God commanded him, so he did.

⁴ And Abram departed, even as Jehovah had spoken to him. And Lot went with him. And Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran.

⁵ And I will bring a bite of bread, and will comfort your hearts. After that You shall pass on. For this is why You have come to Your servant. And they said, Do so, as you have said.

²³ And Abraham drew near and said, Will You also destroy the righteous with the wicked? ²⁴ Perhaps there are fifty righteous within the city. Will You also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are in it? ²⁵ Far be it from You to act in this manner, to kill the righteous with the wicked. And far be it from You, that the righteous should be as the wicked. Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?

¹⁵ And the water was gone in the bottle, and she cast the boy under one of the shrubs. ¹⁶ And she went and sat down across from him, a good way off, about a bowshot. For she said, Let me not see the death of the boy. And she sat across from him, and lifted up her voice, and cried.

¹ And it happened after these things that God tested Abraham, and said to him, Abraham! And he said, Behold me. ² And He said, Take now your son, your only one, Isaac, whom you love. And go into the land of Moriah, and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will name to you. ³ And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son. And he split the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up and went to the place of which God had told him.

¹⁴ And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah Will See; so that it is said until this day, In the mount of Jehovah it will be seen.

¹⁷ And the servant ran to meet her, and said, Please let me drink a little water of your pitcher. ¹⁸ And she said, Drink, my lord. And she hurried and let down her pitcher upon her hand, and gave a drink to him. ¹⁹ And when she had finished giving him drink, she said, I will draw water for your camels also, until they have finished drinking.

²¹ And they said one to another, We are truly guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the anguish of his soul when he begged us, and we would not hear. Therefore this distress has come upon us. ²² And Reuben answered them, saying, Did I not speak to you saying, Do not sin against the youth? And you would not hear. Therefore, behold, also his blood is required.

¹⁵ And when Joseph's brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, Joseph will perhaps hate us, and will certainly repay us all the evil which we did to him.

¹⁷ So shall you say to Joseph, please lift up the rebellion of your brothers, and their sin. For they did evil to you. And please now lift up the rebellion of the servants of the God of your father. And Joseph wept when they spoke to him.

¹³ And Moses said to the people, Do not fear. Stand still and see the salvation of Jehovah, which He will prepare for you this day. For the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you shall never see them anymore.

³⁵ And the sons of Israel ate manna forty years, until they came to a land in which people lived. They ate manna until they came into the borders of the land of Canaan.

⁴ And Moses cried to Jehovah, saying, What shall I do to this people? They are almost ready to stone me.

²³ And Jehovah said to Moses, Has Jehovah's hand become short? You shall see now whether or not My word shall come to pass to you.

⁸ Take the rod, and gather the assembly, you and Aaron your brother, and speak to the rock before their eyes. And it shall give forth its water, and you shall bring forth to them water out of the rock. So you shall give the congregation and their animals drink.

⁸ At that time Jehovah separated the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, to stand before Jehovah to minister to Him, and to bless in His name, until today.

³⁹ See now that I, I am He, and there is no god with me. I kill, and I make alive; I wound and I heal; and there is no deliverer out of My hand.

⁸ O, Lord, what shall I say when Israel turns their backs before their enemies? ⁹ For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land shall hear, and shall surround us, and shall cut off our name from the earth. And what will You do for Your great name?

² And Jehovah said to Gideon, The people with you are too many for Me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel boast themselves against Me, saying, My own hand has saved me.

⁴ And Jehovah said to Gideon, The people are still too many. Bring them down to the water, and I will separate them for you there. It shall be that of whom I say to you, This shall go with you, the same shall go with you. And of whomever I say to you, This shall not go with you, the same shall not go. ⁵ And he brought down the people to the water. And Jehovah said to Gideon, Everyone who laps the water with his tongue, as a dog laps, you shall set him apart; also everyone who bows down upon his knees to drink. ⁶ And the number of them who lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, was three hundred men. But all the rest of the people bowed down upon their knees to drink water. ⁷ And Jehovah said to Gideon, I will save you by the three hundred men who lapped, and will deliver the Midianites into your hand. And let all the other people go, each man to his place.

⁴ And Jephthah called up all the men of Gilead and fought with Ephraim. And the men of Gilead struck Ephraim, because they said, You Gileadites are fugitives of Ephraim among the Ephraimites and among the Manassites.

¹⁴ And he said to them, Out of the eater came forth food, and out of the strong came forth sweetness. And in three days they were not able to declare the riddle.

¹⁸ And he was very thirsty and called upon Jehovah and said, You have given this great deliverance into the hand of Your servant. And now shall I die with thirst, and fall into the hand of the uncircumcised? ¹⁹ But God cut open a hollow place and water came out there. And he drank, and his spirit came again, and he revived. Therefore, its name is called Fountain of the Praying One, which is in Lehi to this day.

⁶ Jehovah kills and makes alive. He brings down to Sheol, and brings up.

⁸ And the sons of Israel said to Samuel, Do not cease from crying to Jehovah our God for us, so that He will save us out of the hand of the Philistines. ⁹ And Samuel took a suckling lamb, and offered a whole burnt offering to Jehovah. And Samuel cried to Jehovah for Israel, and Jehovah answered him.

³⁹ For, as Jehovah lives, He who saves Israel, though it is in Jonathan my son, he shall surely die. But there was not a man among all the people who answered.

⁴⁵ And the people said to Saul, Shall Jonathan die, who has worked out this great salvation in Israel? Far be it! As Jehovah lives, not one hair of his head shall fall to the ground, for he has worked with God this day. So the people rescued Jonathan, so that he did not die.

⁴ And Samuel did what Jehovah said, and came to Bethlehem. And the elders of the town trembled at his coming and said, Do you come peaceably?

³ And David swore again and said, Your father certainly knows that I have found grace in your eyes. And he said, Do not let Jonathan know this, lest he be full of sorrow. But truly as Jehovah lives, and as your soul lives, only a step is between me and death.

²¹ And behold, I will send a lad, saying, Go find the arrows. If I carefully say to the lad, Behold, the arrows are on this side of you, take them, then you may come, for there is peace to you, and no hurt, as Jehovah lives.

²⁶ And now, my lord, as Jehovah lives and as your soul lives, since Jehovah has withheld you from coming to shed blood, and from avenging yourself with your own hand, now let your enemies, and those that seek to do evil to my lord, be as Nabal.

¹⁰ And David said, As Jehovah lives, except Jehovah strike him, or his day shall come, and he dies, or he goes down to battle and is consumed,

²¹ And Ittai answered the king and said, As the Lord lives, and as my lord the king lives, surely in whatever place my lord the king shall be, whether in death or life, even there also will your servant be.

¹⁰ And the king said, What have I to do with you, sons of Zeruiah? Let him curse, because Jehovah has said to him, Curse David. Who then shall say, Why have you done so?

²² And David said, What do I have to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah, that you should be my foes today? Shall there be any man put to death today in Israel? For do I not know that I am king over Israel today?

²² But the Word of God came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

¹ And behold, a man of God came out of Judah, by the Word of Jehovah, to Bethel. And Jeroboam stood by the altar to burn incense.

⁵ The altar also was torn apart, and the ashes poured out from the altar according to the sign which the man of God had given by the Word of Jehovah.

¹² And Zimri destroyed all the house of Baasha, according to the Word of Jehovah which He spoke against Baasha by Jehu the prophet,

⁴ for it happened when Jezebel cut off the prophets of Jehovah, Obadiah took a hundred prophets and hid them by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water.)

⁹ And he said, What have I sinned that you would deliver your servant into the hand of Ahab to kill me? ¹⁰ As Jehovah your God lives, there is no nation nor kingdom where my lord has not sent to seek you. And when they said, He is not there, he took an oath of the kingdom and nation that they did not find you.

¹⁵ And Elijah said, As Jehovah of Hosts lives, before whom I stand, I will surely be seen by him today.

³⁶ And it happened at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, Elijah the prophet came near and said, Jehovah, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that You are God in Israel, and that I am Your servant, and that I have done all these things at Your Word. ³⁷ Hear me, O Jehovah, hear me, that this people may know that You are Jehovah God, and that You have turned their heart back again.

⁵ And as he lay and slept under a broom tree, behold, then an angel touched him and said to him, Arise, eat. ⁶ And he looked, and, behold, a cake was baked on the coals, and a jug of water at his head. And he ate and drank, and lay down again. ⁷ And the angel of Jehovah came to him the second time and touched him, and said, Arise, eat, because the journey is too great for you. ⁸ And he arose, and ate and drank, and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights to Horeb the mount of God. ⁹ And he came there to a cave and stayed there. And behold, the Word of Jehovah came to him, and He said to him, What are you doing here, Elijah?

¹⁴ And Micaiah said, As Jehovah lives, what Jehovah says to me, that I will speak.

²⁵ And Micaiah said, Behold, you shall see in that day when you shall go into an inner room to hide yourself.

¹³ And Elisha said to the king of Israel, What do I have to do with you? Go to the prophets of your father and to the prophets of your mother. And the king of Israel said to him, No, for Jehovah has called these three kings together to deliver them into the hand of Moab. ¹⁴ And Elisha said, As Jehovah of Hosts lives, before whom I stand, surely if it were not that I regard the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look toward you nor see you.

¹⁶ And he said, So says Jehovah, Make this valley full of ditches.

² And Elisha said to her, What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house? And she said, Your handmaid has not a thing in the house except a pot of oil. ³ And he said, Go, borrow vessels for yourself from outside, from your neighbors, empty vessels. Do not let them be few. ⁴ And you shall go in and shut the door on you and your sons. And you shall pour out into all those vessels. And you shall set aside the full ones. ⁵ And she went from him and shut the door on her and on her sons. They brought to her, and she poured out. ⁶ And it happened when the vessels were full, she said to her son, Bring me another vessel. And he said to her, There is not a vessel left. And the oil stopped. ⁷ And she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil and pay your debt, and you and your sons shall live from the rest.

¹⁰ Please, let us make a little room on the wall. And let us set a bed for him there, and a table, and a stool, and a lampstand. And when he comes to us, he shall turn in there.

¹⁸ And the boy grew, and the day came that he went out to his father to the reapers. ¹⁹ And he said to his father, My head, my head! And he said to a lad, Carry him to his mother. ²⁰ And he carried him and brought him to his mother. And he sat on her knees until noon and died. ²¹ And she went up and laid him on the bed of the man of God, and shut the door on him and went out.

³² And Elisha had come to the house. And behold, the boy was dead, and laid out on his bed. ³³ And he went in and shut the door on the two of them, and prayed to Jehovah. ³⁴ And he went up and lay on the boy, and put his mouth on his mouth and his eyes on his eyes, and his hands on his hands. And he stretched himself on the boy. And the flesh of the boy became warm. ³⁵ And he returned and walked in the house to and fro. And he went up and stretched himself on him. And the boy sneezed seven times, and the boy opened his eyes. ³⁶ And he called Gehazi and said, Call this Shunammite. And he called her, and she came in to him. And he said, Take up your son! ³⁷ And she went in and fell at his feet and bowed to the ground, and took up her son, and went out.

⁴² And a man came from Baal-shalisha and brought the man of God bread from the firstfruits, twenty loaves of barley and full ears of grain in his sack. And he said, Give to the people that they may eat. ⁴³ And his servant said, What? Should I set this before a hundred men? He said again, Give to the people so that they may eat, for so says Jehovah, They shall eat and shall leave some. ⁴⁴ And he set before them, and they ate, and left some of it, according to the Word of Jehovah.

¹⁶ But he said, As Jehovah lives, before whom I stand, I will receive none. And he urged him to take it, but he refused.

¹⁶ And he answered, Do not fear, for those with us are more than those with them.

¹ And Elisha said, Hear the Word of Jehovah! So says Jehovah, Tomorrow about this time a measure of fine flour will be sold at a shekel, and two measures of barley at a shekel, in the gate of Samaria.

⁶ And he arose and went into the house. And he poured the oil on his head and said to him, So says Jehovah, the God of Israel, I have anointed you king over the people of Jehovah, over Israel.

²¹ And it happened as they were burying a man, behold, they spied a band. And they threw the man into the grave of Elisha. And the man went down and touched the bones of Elisha, and revived and stood up on his feet.

⁴ It may be Jehovah your God will hear all the words of the chief cupbearer with which his master the king of Assyria has sent to reproach the living God, and will rebuke the words which Jehovah your God has heard. And you shall lift up prayer for the rest who are left.

¹⁵ And Hezekiah prayed before Jehovah and said, O Jehovah, the God of Israel, who dwells between the cherubs, You are God Himself, You alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made the heavens and the earth.

³ And it happened the same night the Word of God came to Nathan, saying,

¹⁷ You shall not fight in this battle. Set yourselves and stand, and see the salvation of Jehovah with you, O Judah and Jerusalem. Do not fear nor be dismayed. Tomorrow go out against them, for Jehovah will be with you.

²⁰ And they rose early in the morning and went out into the wilderness of Tekoa. And as they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and you people of Jerusalem. Believe in Jehovah your God, and so you shall be established. Believe His prophets, and so you shall be blessed.

²¹ But he sent messengers to him, saying, What have I to do with you, king of Judah? I do not come against you today, but against the house with which I have war. For God commanded me to make haste. You must cease from opposing God, who is with me, so that He does not destroy you.

¹⁰ In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all flesh, even of man?

²³ How many are my iniquities and sins? Make known my transgressions and my sin.

²⁶ For You write bitter things against me, and make me to possess the sins of my youth.

¹⁴ If He sets His heart on man, if He gathers to Himself his spirit and his breath,

²⁹ And He gives quietness, who then can condemn? And when He hides His face, who can behold Him? And it may be against a nation and a man together;

⁸ Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it broke forth as it came from the womb? ⁹ When I made the clouds its robe, and darkness its navel-band, ¹⁰ and set My limit on it, and set bars and doors, ¹¹ and I said, You shall come to here, but no further; and here your proud waves shall stop. ¹² Have you commanded the morning from your days, and caused the dawn to know its place, ¹³ that it might take hold of the ends of the earth; that the wicked might be shaken out of it?

⁴¹ Who provides food for the raven, when its young ones cry to God and wander about without food?

²⁰ You shall hide them in the secrecy of Your presence from the pride of man; You shall hide them in a shelter away from the strife of tongues.

⁸ Let all the earth fear Jehovah; let all the people of the world stand in awe of Him. ⁹ For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood.

⁹ O fear Jehovah, His holy ones; for there is nothing lacking to those who fear Him. ¹⁰ The young lions lack, and suffer hunger; but those who seek Jehovah shall not lack any good thing.

³ Trust in Jehovah, and do good; you shall dwell in the land, and you shall be fed on truth.

¹⁹ They shall not be ashamed in the evil time; and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.

¹³ Surely I have made my heart pure in vain, and washed my hands in innocence. ¹⁴ For all the day long I have been plagued, and chastened every morning.

¹⁵ He split the rocks in the wilderness, and let them drink, as from the great depths. ¹⁶ He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers.

²³ though He had commanded the clouds from above, and had opened the doors of the heavens; ²⁴ and had rained down manna on them to eat, and He gave them of the grain of the heavens.

³ They take shrewd counsel against Your people, and plot against Your hidden ones.

⁶ Moses and Aaron were among His priests, and Samuel among those who called on His name; they called on Jehovah, and He answered them.

²⁹ You hide Your face, they are troubled; You take away their breath, they die and return to their dust.

⁹ He gives the beasts their food, and to the young ravens which cry.

⁵ Trust in Jehovah with all your heart, and lean not to your own understanding.

⁹ Honor Jehovah with your substance, and with the firstfruits of all your increase;

¹⁰ The preacher sought to find out pleasing words; and words of truth written by the upright.

¹⁶ He shall dwell on high; his refuge shall be the strongholds of rocks; bread shall be given him; his waters shall be sure.

³⁰ Even the young shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall; ³¹ but those who wait on Jehovah shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

¹⁰ Do not fear; for I am with you; be not dismayed; for I am your God. I will make you strong; yes, I will help you; yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of My righteousness.

¹³ For I, Jehovah your God, will hold your right hand, saying to you, Do not fear; I will help you.

¹⁷ The poor and needy seek water, and there is none; their tongue fails for thirst, I Jehovah will hear them, I the God of Israel will not leave them.

¹⁸ Lift up your eyes all around and see; they all gather and come to you. As I live, says Jehovah, you shall surely wear them as an ornament, and bind them on as a bride.

¹⁰ For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but My kindness shall not depart from you, nor shall the covenant of My peace be removed, says Jehovah who has mercy on you.

² And you shall swear, Jehovah lives, in truth, in judgment, and in righteousness; and the nations shall bless themselves in Him, and in Him they shall glory.

² And though they say, As Jehovah lives; surely they swear falsely.

¹ The Word that came to Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying,

¹ The Word that came to Jeremiah from Jehovah saying,

¹ Righteous are You, O Jehovah, that I might contend with You; yet let me speak with You about Your judgments. Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why are all those happy who deal treacherously?

¹⁸ If I go out into the field, then I see those killed with the sword! And if I enter into the city, then, behold, sicknesses of famine! Yes, both the prophet and the priest have gone up into a land that they do not know.

¹⁹ Therefore so says Jehovah, If you turn back, then I will bring you again; you shall stand before Me. And if you take the precious from the worthless, you shall be as My mouth. Let them turn back to you, but do not return to them.

¹ The Word which came to Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying,

¹⁹ And the rulers said to Baruch, Go hide yourselves, you and Jeremiah; and let no man know where you are.

²⁶ And the king commanded Jerahmeel the son of Hammelech, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to seize Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet. But Jehovah hid them.

²¹ And Zedekiah the king commanded that they should put Jeremiah into the court of the prison, and that they should give him a piece of bread out of the bakers' street daily, until all the bread in the city was gone. So Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.

⁴ And now, behold, I set you free today from the chains on your hand. If it seems good to you to come with me into Babylon, come. And I will keep my eye on you. But if it seems evil to you to come with me into Babylon, stay. Behold, all the land is before you. Wherever it seems good and pleasing for you to go, go there.

⁹ Better are the ones slain by the sword than the ones slain by hunger; those who pine away, pierced because the fruits of my fields failed.

¹⁸ Son of man, eat your bread with quaking and drink your water with trembling and anxiety. ¹⁹ And say to the people of the land: So says the Lord Jehovah of the people of Jerusalem and of the land of Israel: They shall eat their bread with anxiety and drink their water with horror, so that her land may be desolated of her fullness, because of the violence of all those who dwell in it.

²³ And it shall be to them an empty divining before their eyes, those who have sworn oaths to them. But He will remember iniquity, that they may be taken. ²⁴ So the Lord Jehovah says this: Because you have made your iniquity to be remembered, in that your transgressions are discovered, in that your sins are revealed in all your deeds; because you have been remembered, you shall be taken with the hand.

²³ But you have lifted up yourself against the Lord of Heaven. And they have brought the vessels of His house before you; and you, and your lords, your wives, and your concubines, have drunk wine from them. And you have praised the gods of silver, and gold, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see, nor hear, nor know. And you have not glorified the God in whose hand is your breath and all your ways.

¹ The Word of Jehovah that came to Hosea, the son of Beeri, in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel. ² The beginning of Jehovah speaking by Hosea. And Jehovah said to Hosea, Go, take to yourself a wife of adultery and children of adultery. For the land has utterly gone lusting away from Jehovah.

¹⁵ Alas for the day! For the day of Jehovah is at hand, and it shall come as a ruin from the Almighty. ¹⁶ Is not the food cut off before our eyes, and joy and gladness from the house of our God?

³ And if they hide themselves in the top of Carmel, I will search and take them out from there.
