¹ THIS is a true saying, If a man desires the office of a bishop, he aspires to a good work.

¹⁰ I say to you, that such will be the joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents.

²⁰ For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no one dwell in it; and let his duty be taken by another man.

²⁸ Take heed therefore to yourselves and to all the flock, over which the Holy Spirit has appointed you overseers, to feed the church of Christ which he has purchased with his blood.

¹³ It is to you Gentiles that I speak, inasmuch as I am the apostle to the Gentiles, and perhaps magnify my ministry:

¹² For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

¹ PAUL and Ti-moÆthe-us, servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Jesus Christ who are at Philippi, together with the elders and deacons:

¹⁴ Now we beseech you, my brethren, correct those who offend, comfort those who lack courage, bear the burdens of the weak, and be patient toward all men.

¹⁵ This is a trustworthy saying and worthy of all acceptation, that Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

² He who becomes an bishop must be blameless, the husband of one wife, have an alert mind, must be sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, and apt at teaching; ³ Not given to wine, not a striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but meek, not a brawler; ⁴ One who rules well his own household, and keeps his children under submission to bring them up with all purity. ⁵ For if a man does not know how to rule well his own household, how shall he take care of the church of God? ⁶ He should not be a recent convert, lest he become proud and fall into the condemnation of the devil. ⁷ Moreover, he must have a good report from outsiders; lest he fall into reproach and the snares of the devil.

¹¹ This is a true saying: For if we die with him, we shall also live with him:

⁷ For an elder must be blameless, as a steward of God; and he must not be self-willed, not quick tempered, not excessive in the use of wine, not too ready to strike with his hand, not a lover of filthy lucre;

⁸ This is a true saying, and these things I want you to constantly affirm, so that those who believe in God may be careful to continually do good works. These things are good and profitable to men.

¹⁵ Take heed lest any man among you be found short of the grace of God; or lest any root of bitterness spring forth and harm you, and thereby many be defiled;

¹⁹ My brethren, if any of you do err from the way of the truth, and some one converts him from his error, ²⁰ Let him know that he who converts a sinner from the error of his way, shall save his soul from death, and shall wipe out a multitude of sins.

²⁵ For you had gone astray like sheep, but you have now returned to the Shepherd and the Guardian of your souls.

¹⁵ But let none of you suffer the fate of a murderer, or a thief, or a malefactor.

² Feed the flock of God which is entrusted to your care and shepherd them spiritually, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but with all your heart.
