¹ A Song of Ascents. Of David. O Jehovah, my heart is not proud, nor have my eyes been lofty; nor have I walked in great things, nor in things too wondrous for me. ² Surely I have set myself and have quieted my soul, like one weaned by its mother; my soul on me is like one weaned. ³ Let Israel hope in Jehovah, from now and till forever.

³ And the man Moses was very meek, more than any man who was on the face of the earth.

²⁰ so that his heart may not be lifted up above his brothers, and that he may not turn aside from the commandment, to the right or to the left; so that he may prolong his days over his kingdom, he and his sons in the midst of Israel.

¹³ And Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers. And the Spirit of Jehovah came upon David from that day and onward. And Samuel rose up and went to Ramah.

¹⁸ One of the servants answered and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite who is skillful in playing, and a mighty warrior, and a man of battle, and skillful in speech, and a man of form. And Jehovah is with him.

²² And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, Please let David stand before me, for he has found grace in my eyes.

²⁸ And his eldest brother Eliab heard when he spoke to the men. And Eliab's anger burned against David. And he said, Why is it you have come down? And with whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your pride and the evil of your heart, for you have come down to see the battle. ²⁹ And David said, What have I done now? Was it not but a word?

²³ And Saul's servants spoke these words in David's ears. And David said, Is it a light thing in your eyes to be son-in-law to the king? And I am a poor man, and lightly esteemed.

³ Who is this hiding counsel without knowledge? So I declared, but did not understand things too wonderful for me; yea, I did not know.

⁷⁰ He also chose His servant David, and took him from the sheepfolds; ⁷¹ He brought him in from the suckling ewes; He brought him to feed His people Jacob, and His inheritance, Israel. ⁷² And he fed them in the integrity of his heart; and guided them in the skillfulness of his hands.

⁵ Whoever secretly slanders his neighbor, I will cut him off; I will not endure him who has high eyes and a proud heart.

⁶ Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is set on high; I am not able to reach it.

¹⁶ And I have not hurried away from shepherding after You, nor have I desired the woeful day. You surely know that the utterance of my lips was before Your face.

⁵ And do you seek great things for yourself? Do not seek them . For, behold, I will bring evil on all flesh, declares Jehovah. But I will give your soul to you for a prize, there on all the places where you go.

¹⁴ Then Amos answered and said to Amaziah: I was not a prophet, nor was I a prophet's son, but I was a herdsman and a gatherer from sycamore trees. ¹⁵ And Jehovah took me from behind the flock, and Jehovah said to me, Go, prophesy to My people Israel.

²⁹ Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, because I am meek and lowly in heart, "and you will find rest to your souls." Jer. 6:16

¹⁹ serving the Lord with all humility, and many tears and trials happening to me by the plots of the Jews;

³³ O the depth of the riches and of the wisdom and the knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!

¹⁶ minding the same thing toward one another, not minding high things, but yielding to the lowly. Do not become wise within yourselves.

⁶ nor seeking glory from men, neither from you, nor from others, having been able to be so with the weight of glory as apostles of Christ. ⁷ But we were gentle in your midst, even as a nurse should warmly cherish her children.

¹⁰ You and God are witnesses how holily and righteously and blamelessly we were to you, those believing;

¹⁰ See, this day your eyes have seen how Jehovah has delivered you today into my hand in the cave. And one said to kill you, but I had pity on you. And I said, I shall not put out my hand against my lord, for he is the anointed of Jehovah.

³² And David said to Abigail, Blessed is Jehovah the God of Israel, who has sent you to meet me today. ³³ And blessed is your discernment. And blessed are you in that you have kept me from coming in with blood this day, and from delivering myself with my own hand.

⁶ And David was greatly distressed, for the people said to stone him. For the soul of the people was bitter, each for his sons and for his daughters. And David made himself strong in Jehovah his God.

²⁵ And the king said to Zadok, Take the ark of God back to the city. If I find grace in the eyes of Jehovah, then He will bring me back and show it and His dwelling place to me. ²⁶ And if He says this, I have not delighted in you, behold, I am here. He shall do to me as seems good in His eyes.

¹¹ And David said to Abishai, and to all his servants, Behold, my son who came out of my loins is seeking my life, and surely now also the Benjamite. Leave him alone, and let him curse, for Jehovah has spoken to him. ¹² It may be Jehovah will look on my affliction, and Jehovah will return good to me for his cursing this day.

⁵ Oh my soul, why are you cast down and moan within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet thank Him for the salvation of His presence.

¹⁵ For so says the Lord Jehovah, the Holy One of Israel, In returning and rest you shall be saved; and in quietness and hope shall be your strength. But you were not willing.

²⁶ It is good that a man hopes for the salvation of Jehovah, even in silence.

³ And He said, Truly I say to you, Unless you convert and become as the little children, not at all can you enter into the kingdom of Heaven. ⁴ Then whoever will humble himself as this little child, this one is the greater in the kingdom of Heaven.

¹⁵ Truly I say to you, Whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a child may in no way enter into it.

¹⁹ By your patience you will gain your souls.

¹ Do not let your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. ² In My Father's house are many dwelling places. But if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going to prepare a place for you!

²⁰ Brothers, do not be children in your minds, but in malice be like infants, and in your minds be mature.

⁹ O Israel, trust in Jehovah; He is their help and their shield. ¹⁰ O house of Aaron, trust in Jehovah; He is their help and their shield. ¹¹ You who fear Jehovah, trust in Jehovah; He is their help and their shield.

¹⁸ but we will bless Jehovah, from now on and forever. Praise Jehovah!

⁷ Let Israel hope to Jehovah, for with Jehovah is mercy, and with Him is abundant redemption;

⁵ Blessed is he who has the God of Jacob in his help; his hope is on Jehovah his God;

⁴ Trust in Jehovah forever, for in Jah Jehovah is everlasting strength.

⁷ Blessed is the man who trusts in Jehovah, and Jehovah is his trust. ⁸ For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters. It sends out its roots by the stream, and it will not fear when the heat comes; but its foliage will be green; and it is not anxious in the year of drought, nor will it cease from yielding fruit.
