²⁴ Though he falls, he is not cast down; for Jehovah upholds his hand.

⁵ God will likewise break you forever; He shall take you away, even pluck you from your tent, and uproot you out of the land of the living. Selah.

¹⁷ A wicked messenger falls into evil, but a faithful ambassador is healing.

³² The wicked is thrust out in his wickedness, but the righteous has hope in his death.

¹⁴ Oh the happiness of a man who is awed by God constantly! But he who hardens his heart falls into evil. ¹⁵ The wicked ruler is a roaring lion and a ranging bear over a helpless people. ¹⁶ The ruler that lacks understanding even adds oppressions, but he who hates unjust gain prolongs his days. ¹⁷ Any man oppressed with the blood of a soul shall flee to the pit; let them not uphold him. ¹⁸ He who walks uprightly shall be saved, but he who is perverse in his ways shall fall at once.

² The virgin of Israel has fallen, and will not arise again; she lies forsaken on her land; there is no one raising her up.

¹⁴ They who swear by the guilt of Samaria, and say, As your God lives, O Dan! And, As the way of Beer-sheba lives! Even they shall fall, and not rise again.

⁸ Rejoice not against me, my enemy; for if I fall, I shall arise. For if sit in darkness, Jehovah is a light to me. ⁹ I will bear the fury of Jehovah because I have sinned against Him, until He pleads my cause and brings forth justice for me. He will bring me out to the light; I shall see His righteousness. ¹⁰ And my enemy shall see; and shame shall cover her, the one saying to me, Where is He, Jehovah your God? My eyes shall look on her. Now she shall be for a trampling, as the mud of the streets.

²³ And instantly an angel of the Lord struck him, because he did not give the glory to God. And having been eaten by worms, his soul went out.

⁸ For, brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant as to our affliction having happened to us in Asia, that we were excessively pressed down beyond our power, so as for us even to despair of living. ⁹ But we ourselves have the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust on ourselves, but on God, the One raising the dead, ¹⁰ who delivered us from so great a death, and does deliver; in whom we have hope that He will still deliver us,

⁸ in every way being troubled, but not having been hemmed in; having been perplexed, but not utterly at a loss; ⁹ being persecuted, but not having been forsaken; being thrown down, but not having been destroyed; ¹⁰ always bearing about the dying of the Lord Jesus in the body, that also the life of Jesus may be revealed in our body. ¹¹ For we who live are always being delivered up to death on account of Jesus, that also the life of Jesus may be revealed in our mortal flesh; ¹² so that death indeed works in us, and life in you.

²³ Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as beside myself.) I being beyond them : in labors, more abundantly; in stripes, beyond measure; in prisons, much more; in deaths, many times. ²⁴ Five times I received forty stripes minus one from the Jews. ²⁵ I was flogged three times; I was stoned once; I was shipwrecked three times; I have spent a night and a day in the deep. ²⁶ I have been in travels often, in dangers of rivers, in dangers of robbers, in dangers from my race, in dangers from the nations, in dangers in the city, in dangers in the desert, in dangers on the sea, in dangers among false brothers, ²⁷ in hardship and toil, often in watchings, in hunger and thirst, often in fastings, in cold and nakedness,

³ For when they say, Peace and safety! Then suddenly destruction comes upon them, like travail to the pregnant woman, and they shall not at all escape.

²⁰ Rejoice over her, Heaven, and the holy apostles, and the prophets, because God judged your judgment on her. ²¹ And one strong angel lifted a stone like a great millstone, and threw it into the sea, saying, This way, on a violent impulse, Babylon the great city will be thrown down, and it will never more still be found.
