¹⁷ Do not rejoice when your enemy falls, and do not let your heart be glad when he stumbles,

And, behold, you are taken in your mischief, for you are a man of blood. ⁹ And Abishai the son of Zeruiah said to the king, Why does this dead dog curse my lord the king? let me pass over, I beg you, and I will take off his head. ¹⁰ And the king said, What have I to do with you, sons of Zeruiah? For let him curse, even because Jehovah has said to him, Curse David. And who shall say, Why have you done so? ¹¹ And David said to Abishai, and to all his servants, Behold, my son who came out of my loins is seeking my life, and surely now also the Benjamite. Leave him alone, and let him curse, for Jehovah has spoken to him. ¹² It may be Jehovah will look on my affliction, and Jehovah will return good to me for his cursing this day. ¹³ And David went with his men in the highway, and Shimei was going along at the side of the hill across from him. As he went, he cursed, and stoned with stones across from him, and dusted with dust. ¹⁴ And the king came in wearied, and all the people with him; and he was refreshed there.

²⁹ If I rejoiced at the ruin of my enemy, and I was excited when evil found him;

¹⁵ But they rejoiced in my stumbling, and assembled; the defamers assembled themselves against me, and I knew not; they tore and were not silent,

¹⁹ Let not my lying enemies rejoice over me, do not let those who hate me without cause wink with the eye.

¹⁰ My oppressors reproach me with crushing in my bones. when they say to me every day, Where is your God?

⁵ Whoever scorns the poor reviles his Maker, he who rejoices at calamity shall not be innocent.

¹² But you should not have looked on the day of your brother, on the day of his alienation; nor should you have rejoiced over the sons of Judah in the day of their destruction; nor should you have enlarged your mouth in the day of distress.

⁶ does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices in the truth. ⁷ Love quietly covers all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
