¹ When Ephraim spoke trembling, he was lifted up in Israel. But he offended in Baal, and he died.

¹⁷ but of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil you may not eat, for in the day that you eat of it, you shall surely die. ¹⁸ On the west side shall be the standard of the camp of Ephraim, according to their armies; the ruler of the sons of Ephraim being Elishama the son of Ammihud. ¹⁹ And his army, and those numbered of them were forty thousand and five hundred. ²⁰ And next to him shall be the tribe of Manasseh the ruler of the sons of Manasseh, being Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur. ²¹ And his army, and those numbered of them were thirty two thousand and two hundred

²² And the standard of the camp of the sons of Ephraim pulled up, by their armies. And over its army was Elishama the son of Ammihud.

⁸ of the tribe of Ephraim, Joshua the son of Nun;

¹⁶ These were the names of the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Oshea the son of Nun, Joshua.

¹⁶ Let Jehovah, the God of the spirits of all flesh, appoint a man over the congregation ¹⁷ who may go out before them, and who may go in before them, and who may lead them out, and who may bring them in, so that the congregation of Jehovah may not be as sheep to whom there is no shepherd. ¹⁸ And Jehovah said to Moses, Take Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the Spirit, and lay your hand on him. ¹⁹ And cause him to stand before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation, and give him a charge in their sight. ²⁰ And you shall put your honor on him, so that all the congregation of the sons of Israel will listen. ²¹ And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall ask for him according to the judgment of the Urim before Jehovah. At his mouth they shall go out, and at his mouth they shall come in, he and all the sons of Israel with him, even all the congregation. ²² And Moses did as Jehovah commanded him. And he took Joshua and made him stand before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation. ²³ And he laid his hands on him, and gave him a charge, even as Jehovah commanded by the hand of Moses.

⁷ And Jehovah said to Joshua, This day I will begin to make you great in the eyes of all Israel, so that they shall know that as I was with Moses, I am with you.

¹ And the men of Ephraim said to him, What is this thing you have done to us, not to call us when you went out to fight against Midian? And they contended with him sharply.

¹ And the men of Ephraim were called together, and went northward, and said to Jephthah, Why have you passed over to fight against the sons of Ammon, and you have not called on us to go with you? We will burn your house over you with fire.

¹⁷ And Samuel said, Were you not, even you, little in your own eyes before becoming leader of the tribes of Israel? And Jehovah anointed you as king over Israel.

²⁵ And Jeroboam built Shechem in the hills of Ephraim and lived in it, and went out from there and built Penuel.

²⁹ And in the thirty eighth year of Asa the king of Judah, Ahab the son of Omri began to reign over Israel. And Ahab the son of Omri reigned over Israel in Samaria twenty two years; ³⁰ and Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the eyes of Jehovah above all who were before him. ³¹ And it happened as if it were a light thing, that he walked in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he took a wife, Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal, the king of the Sidonians, and went and served Baal, and bowed himself to it. ³² And he reared up an altar for Baal in the house of Baal, which he had built in Samaria. ³³ And Ahab made an Asherah, and Ahab did still more to provoke to anger Jehovah the God of Israel than all the kings of Israel that were before him.

¹⁸ And he answered, I have not disturbed Israel, but you and the house of your father, in that you have forsaken the commands of Jehovah, and you have gone after the Baals. ¹⁹ And now send, gather all Israel to me, to Mount Carmel and four hundred and fifty of the prophets of Baal, and four hundred of the prophets of Asherah, who eat at the table of Jezebel.

¹⁶ And they left all the commands of Jehovah their God and made for themselves casted images, two calves, and made an Asherah, and bowed to all the host of the heavens, and served Baal, ¹⁷ and caused their sons and daughters to pass through the fire and divined, and used incantations, and sold themselves to do the evil in the eyes of Jehovah, to provoke Him, ¹⁸ so that Jehovah was very angry against Israel, and turned them away from His face; not one was left, only the tribe of Judah by itself.

¹² Before shattering, a man's heart is haughty, but humility goes before honor.

² And My hand has made all these things, even all these things exist, declares Jehovah. But I will look toward this one, to the afflicted, and to the contrite of spirit, even trembling at My word.

² As they called to them, so they went from their face. They sacrifice to the Baals, and burn incense to graven images.

¹¹ For everyone exalting himself will be humbled, and the one humbling himself will be exalted.

¹² Because of this, even as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, so also death passed to all men, inasmuch as all sinned.

¹⁴ For the love of Christ constrains us, having judged this, that if One died for all, then the all died;
