²⁵ And it happened on the third day, they being pained, that the two sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah's brothers, each took his sword. And they came on the city in its security, and killed every male.

³³ And she conceived again and bore a son, and said, Surely Jehovah has heard that I am hated and has given this one to me also. And she called his name Simeon. ³⁴ And she conceived again and bore a son. And she said, Now, this time my husband will be joined to me, because I have borne to him three sons. So his name was called Levi.

⁵ Simeon and Levi, brothers; their weapons are instruments of violence. ⁶ Let not my soul come into their counsel; let not my spirit be joined to their company. For in their anger they killed a man; and in selfwill they hamstrung a bull. ⁷ Cursed be their anger, for it was fierce; and their wrath, for it was cruel. ⁷ And they warred against Midian, as Jehovah had commanded Moses, and killed every male.

¹⁷ And now kill every male among the infants; yea, you shall kill every woman having known a man by lying with a male.

⁶ For the sons of Israel had walked forty years in the wilderness, until all the nation, the men of war who had come out of Egypt were consumed, those who did not listen to the voice of Jehovah, to whom Jehovah had sworn to them not to show them the land which Jehovah swore to their fathers, to give to us, a land flowing with milk and honey; these were consumed.

⁸ And it happened, when all the nation had finished being circumcised, they remained in their places in the camp until they revived.

²⁵ And Hezekiah did not return according to the benefit done to him, for his heart had been lifted up, and there was wrath on him and on Judah and Jerusalem.

¹⁶ For they do not sleep if they have done no evil, and their sleep is taken away unless they cause some to fall.
