¹ And while Ezra was praying and making his confession, weeping and casting himself down before the house of God, a very great congregation of men and women and children gathered to him out of Israel. For the people wept with a great weeping. ² And Shechaniah the son of Jehiel, of the sons of Elam, answered and said to Ezra, We have sinned against our God, and have dwelt with foreign women from the peoples of the land. Yet now there is hope in Israel concerning this thing. ³ And now let us cut a covenant with our God to put away all the women, and those born of them, according to the counsel of the Lord and of those who tremble at the command of our God. And let it be done according to the law. ⁴ Rise up, for the matter is on you. We also will be with you. Be strong and act. ⁵ Then Ezra rose up and made the chief priests, the Levites, and all Israel to swear that they would do according to this word. And they swore. ⁶ Then Ezra rose up from before the house of God and went into the room of Johanan the son of Eliashib. And he went there, and he did not eat food, nor did he drink, for he mourned for the perfidy of the exiles. ⁷ And they passed a call throughout Judah and Jerusalem to all the sons of the exile, to assemble at Jerusalem; ⁸ and that whoever would not come within three days according to the counsel of the leaders and the elders, all his property would be forfeited, and he would be excluded from the congregation of the exiles. ⁹ Then all the men of Judah and Benjamin gathered to Jerusalem within three days. It was the ninth month, on the twentieth of the month. And all the people sat in the plaza of the house of God, trembling because of the matter, and because of the heavy rain. ¹⁰ And Ezra the priest stood up and said to them, You have trespassed and have dwelt with foreign women, to increase the guilt of Israel. ¹¹ And now make confession to Jehovah God of your fathers and do His will. And separate yourselves from the peoples of the land and from the foreign women. ¹² Then all the congregation answered and said with a loud voice Right! According to your word it is on us to do. ¹³ But the people are many, and it is a time of heavy rain. And we are not able to stand outside. And the work is not of one or two days. For we have greatly sinned in this thing. ¹⁴ Please let our rulers for all the congregation stand, and let all those who have dwelt with foreign women in our cities come at a set time, and with them the elders of every city, and its judges, until the fierce wrath of our God for this matter has turned from us. ¹⁵ Only Jonathan the son of Asahel, and Jahaziah the son of Tikvah made a stand against this. And Meshullam and Shabbethai the Levite supported them. ¹⁶ And the sons of the exile did so. And Ezra the priest with men, heads of the fathers, according to the house of their fathers, and all of them by names, were separated. And they sat down in the first day of the tenth month to examine the matter. ¹⁷ And they finished with all the men who had dwelt with foreign women by the first day of the first month. ¹⁸ And among the sons of the priests, these were found who had dwelt with foreign women: From the sons of Jeshua the son of Jozadak and his brothers: Maaseiah, and Eliezer, and Jarib, and Gedaliah. ¹⁹ And they gave their hands that they would put away their women. ⁴⁰ And if they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, in their trespass with which they have trespassed against Me; and, also, that they have walked contrary to Me, ⁴¹ I also will walk contrary to them, and I will bring them into the land of their enemies. If their uncircumcised hearts are then humbled, and they then have satisfied for their iniquity;

¹² Assemble the people, men and women, and the little ones, and your alien who is within your gates, so that they may hear, and so that they may learn, and may fear Jehovah your God, and take heed to do all the words of this law;

⁴ And it happened when the Angel of Jehovah spoke these words to all the sons of Israel, the people lifted up their voice and wept. ⁵ And they called the name of that place Bochim: and sacrificied to Jehovah there.

³⁰ And You shall listen to the supplication of Your servant, and of Your people Israel when they shall pray toward this place; yea, You shall listen in Your dwelling-place, in Heaven; and You shall hear and shall forgive.

³ And Jehovah said to him, I have heard your prayer and your supplication with which you have made supplication before Me; I have sanctified this house that you have built to put My name there forever; and My eyes and My heart shall be there forever.

⁹ If evil shall come upon us, whether sword, judgment, or pestilence and famine, we shall stand before this house and before You, for Your name is in this house. and shall cry to You out of our distress, and You shall hear and save.

¹³ And all Judah was standing before Jehovah, and their infants and their wives and their sons.

⁹ And Nehemiah the governor, and Ezra the priest, the scribe, and the Levites who taught the people, said to all the people, This day is holy to Jehovah your God. Do not mourn or weep, For all the people wept when they heard the words of the Law.

²⁸ And the rest of the people the priests, the Levites, the gatekeepers, the singers, the temple-slaves, and all those who separated from the people of the lands to the Law of God, their wives, their sons, and their daughters, all knowing and discerning ones,

⁵ I confessed my sin to You, and I have not hidden my iniquity; I said, I will confess over my transgression to Jehovah; and You forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah.

¹³⁶ Rivers of waters run down my eyes for they do not keep Your law.

¹ Oh, that my head were waters and my eyes a fountain of tears, that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people!

¹⁷ But if you will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places for your pride. And my eye shall bitterly weep and run down with tears, because the flock of Jehovah was captured.

³ And I set my face toward the Lord God, to seek by prayer and holy desires, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes. ⁴ And I prayed to Jehovah my God. and made my confession, saying, O Lord, the great and awesome God, keeping the covenant and mercy of those who love Him, and to those who keep His commandments,

²⁰ And while I was speaking and praying and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and making my cry fall before Jehovah my God for the holy mountain of my God.

² Take words with you and return to Jehovah. Say to Him, Take away all iniquity and receive us well, that we may repay with the calves of our lips.

¹⁶ Gather the people, sanctify the congregation, gather the elders, gather the children, and those who suck the breasts. Let the bridegroom go out of his room, and the bride out of her room. ¹⁷ Let the priests, ministers of Jehovah, weep between the porch and the altar; and let them say, Have pity on Your people, O Jehovah, and do not give Your inheritance to shame, for a proverb among those of the nations. Why should they say among the peoples, Where is their God? ¹⁸ Then Jehovah will be jealous for His land and have pity on His people.

¹⁰ And I will pour on the house of David, and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the Spirit of grace and of prayers. And they shall look on Me whom they have pierced; and they shall mourn for Him, as one mourns for an only son, and they shall be bitter over Him, like the bitterness over the first-born.

⁴¹ And as He drew near, seeing the city, He wept over it,

³⁰ And Cornelius said, From the fourth day until this hour I have been fasting, and the ninth hour I was praying in my house. And, behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing.

⁵ But when it was time for us to complete the days, going out, we traveled. And they, with all the women and children went with us as far as outside the city. And placing the knees on the shore, we prayed.

² that my grief is great, and a never ceasing pain is in my heart,

⁸ If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. ⁹ If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous that He may forgive us the sins, and may cleanse us from all unrighteousness. ¹⁰ If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.

⁶ And Jehovah passed by before his face and called out: Jehovah! Jehovah God! Merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and great in goodness and truth, ⁷ keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and not leaving entirely unpunished, visiting the iniquity of fathers on sons, and on sons of sons, to the third and to the fourth generation.

¹² Take heed to yourself, hat you not cut a covenant with the people of the land to which you are going in, that it not be a snare in your midst.

⁷ The sons of Elam, a thousand two hundred and fifty four.

³¹ The sons of the other Elam, a thousand, two hundred and fifty four.

² For they have taken from their daughters for themselves, and for their sons. So the holy seed have mixed themselves with the people of the lands. Yes, the hand of the leaders and the overseers has been foremost in this treachery.

²⁶ And from the sons of Elam: Mattaniah, Zechariah, and Jehiel, and Abdi, and Jeremoth, and Eliah.

²⁹ After them Zadok the son of Immer repaired across from his house. After him Shemaiah the son of Shechaniah, the keeper of the East Gate, repaired.

¹² The sons of Elam were a thousand, two hundred and fifty four.

³⁴ The sons of the other Elam were a thousand, two hundred and fifty four.

²⁷ Shall we then listen to you, to do this great evil, to sin against our God in living with foreign women?

⁶ Seek Jehovah while He may be found; call on Him while He is near. ⁷ Let the wicked forsake his way and the vain man his thoughts; and let him return to Jehovah, and He will have mercy on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.

¹² Go and cry these words toward the north, and say, Return, O apostate Israel, says Jehovah. I will not cause My face to fall on you, for I am merciful, says Jehovah; I will not keep anger forever. ¹³ Only acknowledge your iniquity, that you have rebelled against Jehovah your God and have scattered your ways to the strangers under every green tree, and you have not obeyed My voice, says Jehovah.

⁹ But if you have partiality to persons, you work sin, having been found guilty as transgressors by the law.

⁷ But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of His Son Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin. ⁸ If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. ⁹ If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous that He may forgive us the sins, and may cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

² And when Jehovah your God shall give them up before you, and you strike them, then you shall utterly destroy them; you shall not cut a covenant with them, nor show mercy to them; ³ nor shall you intermarry with them; you shall not give your daughter to his son, nor shall you take his daughter to your son.

¹² so that you should enter into the covenant of Jehovah your God, and into His oath, which Jehovah your God is making with you today;

⁶ And they went to Joshua, to the camp at Gilgal. And they said to him and to the men of Israel, We have come from a distant land. And now cut a covenant with us.

¹² But if you at all turn away and cleave to the remnant of the nations, of those who are left to you, and intermarry with them, and go in to them, and they to you, ¹³ know certainly that Jehovah your God shall not continue to expel these nations from before you, and they shall be snares and traps to you, and scourges in your sides, and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from this good land which Jehovah your God has given you.

¹⁷ And Jehoiada cut a covenant between Jehovah and the king and the people to be for a people to Jehovah, and between the king and the people.

¹⁰ Now it is in my heart to cut a covenant with Jehovah, the God of Israel, and the glow of His anger shall turn back from us.

¹² Also, in Judah the hand of God was to give to them one heart to do the king's command, and of the leaders, by the word of Jehovah.

²¹ Go, seek Jehovah for me and for him who is left in Israel and in Judah, as to the words of the book that has been found, for great is the wrath of Jehovah that is poured out on us, because our fathers have not kept the word of Jehovah, to do according to all that is written in this book.

²⁷ Because your heart is tender, and you were humbled before God when you heard His words concerning this place, and concerning its inhabitants, and were humbled before Me, and have torn your garments and wept before Me; I have even heard also, says Jehovah.

³¹ And the king stood in his place and made the covenant before Jehovah, to walk after Jehovah, and to keep His commandments and His testimonies and His statutes with all his heart, and with all his soul, to do the words of the covenant that were written in this book. ³² And he made everyone who was found in Jerusalem and in Benjamin, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to stand to the covenant of God, the God of their fathers.

⁴ Then everyone who trembled at the words of the God of Israel were gathered to me, because of the perfidy of the exiles. And I remained stunned until the evening offering.

⁴⁴ All these had risen with foreign women; and there were some of them with women, and they gave sons.

¹⁴ And they found written in the Law which Jehovah had commanded by Moses, that the sons of Israel should dwell in booths in the feast of the seventh month:

³⁸ And because of all this, we are cutting a sure covenant and writing it, and our rulers, Levites, and priests are sealing it.

²⁹ were holding fast to their brothers, their honored ones; and were entering into a curse and into an oath, to walk in God's law which was given by Moses the servant of God, and to keep and to do all the commandments of Jehovah our Lord, and His judgments and His statutes. ³⁰ And we swore that we would not give our daughters to the people of the land nor take their daughters for our sons. ³¹ And if the people of the land should bring goods or any food to sell on the Sabbath, we would not take from them on the Sabbath, or on the holy day. And they would forego the seventh year, and the interest of every hand. ³² Also, we put commands on ourselves, to charge ourselves yearly with the third part of a shekel for the service of the house of our God, ³³ for the Bread of Arrangement, and for the continual food offering, and for the continual burnt offering, of the sabbaths, of the new moons, for the set feasts, and for the holy things, and for the sin offerings to make atonement for Israel, and all the work of the house of God. ³⁴ And we made fall the lots among the priests, and the Levites, and the people, for the wood offering, to bring it into the house of our God, according to the houses of our fathers, at times appointed year by year, to burn on the altar of Jehovah our God, as it is written in the Law; ³⁵ also to bring the firstfruits of our ground, and the firstfruits of all fruit of all trees, year by year, to the house of Jehovah; ³⁶ also to bring the first-born of our sons, and of our cattle, as it is written in the Law; and the firstlings of our herds and of our flocks to the house of our God, to the priests who minister in the house of our God. ³⁷ And that we should bring the firstfruits of our dough, and our offerings, and the fruit of all kinds of trees, of wine, and of oil, to the priests, to the rooms of the house of our God; and the tithes of our ground to the Levites; and they, the Levites, might have the tithes in all the cities we worked. ³⁸ And the priest, the son of Aaron, shall be with the Levites, tithing the Levites; and the Levites shall bring up the tithes of the tithes to the house of our God to the rooms, into the treasure house. ³⁹ For the sons of Israel, and the sons of Levi, shall bring the offering of the grain, of the new wine, and the oil, to the rooms, and there shall be the vessels of the sanctuary, and the priests ministering, and the gatekeepers and the singers. And we will not forsake the house of our God.

¹ On that day they read in the Book of Moses in the ears of the people. And it was found written in it that the Ammonite and the Moabite should not come into the congregation of God forever, ² because they did not meet the sons of Israel with bread and water, but hired Balaam against them to curse them. But our God turned the curse to a blessing. ³ And it happened, when they had heard the Law, they separated all the mixed multitude from Israel.

⁵⁹ I mused on my ways and turned my feet to Your testimonies.

¹²⁰ My flesh has shivered because of Your fear; and I have feared Your judgments.

²⁰ To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no dawn to them!

² And My hand has made all these things, even all these things exist, declares Jehovah. But I will look toward this one, to the afflicted, and to the contrite of spirit, even trembling at My word.

⁴ And Jehovah said to him, Pass through in the midst of the city, in the midst of Jerusalem, and mark a mark on the foreheads of the men who are groaning and are mourning over all the abominations that are done in her midst.

¹² But to the rest I say, not the Lord, if any brother has an unbelieving wife, and she consents to live with him, let him not leave her. ¹³ And a woman who has an unbelieving husband, and he consents to live with her, let her not leave him.

¹⁶ And they answered Joshua, saying, We will do all that you command us; and we will go everywhere you shall send us. ¹⁷ According to all we heard from Moses, so we will listen to you. Surely Jehovah your God is with you, as He has been with Moses. ¹⁸ Whoever rebels against your mouth, and will not listen to +your commands in all that you say to him, he shall be put to death. Only, be strong and brave.

¹⁰ And Jehovah said to Joshua, Get up! Why do you fall on your face this way? ¹¹ Israel has sinned, and they also have transgressed My covenant which I commanded them, and have also taken of the cursed things, and have also stolen, and also deceived, and also put it among their stuff. ¹² And the sons of Israel have not been able to stand before their enemies; they have turned the back before their enemies because they have become cursed. I will not be with you again if you do not destroy the cursed things from among you. ¹³ Rise up, sanctify the people, and you shall say, Sanctify yourselves for tomorrow. For so says Jehovah, the God of Israel, A cursed thing is among you, Israel; you are not able to stand before your enemies until you take away the cursed thing from among you. ¹⁴ And you shall be brought near in the morning, by your tribes. And it shall be, the tribe which Jehovah takes shall draw near by families. And the family which Jehovah takes shall draw near by households. And the household which Jehovah takes shall draw near by men. ¹⁵ And it shall be, he who is taken with the accursed thing shall be burned with fire, he and all that he has, because he has transgressed the covenant of Jehovah and because he has committed folly in Israel. ¹⁶ And Joshua rose early in the morning, and brought Israel near by its tribes. And the tribe of Judah was taken. ¹⁷ And he brought the family of Judah near; and he took the family of the Zarhites. And he brought near the family of the Zarhites by men, and Zabdi was taken. ¹⁸ And he brought near his household by men, and Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was taken. ¹⁹ And Joshua said to Achan, My son, I beg you, give glory to Jehovah, the God of Israel, and give thanks to Him, and please tell me what you have done. Do not hide it from me. ²⁰ And Achan answered Joshua, and said, Truly I have sinned against Jehovah, the God of Israel, and this I have done: ²¹ When I saw among the spoil a goodly robe of Shinar, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold, one of fifty shekels in weight, then I lusted after them, and took them. And behold, they are hidden in the earth, in the middle of my tent, and the silver under it. ²² And Joshua sent messengers, and they ran to the tent; and behold, it was hidden in his tent, and the silver under it. ²³ And they took them out of the middle of the tent, and brought them to Joshua, and to all the sons of Israel, and laid them out before Jehovah. ²⁴ And Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, and the silver, and the robe, and the wedge of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his oxen, and his ass, and his flock, and his tent, and all that he had. And they made them go up to the valley of Achor. ²⁵ And Joshua said, How you have troubled us! Jehovah shall trouble you today! And all Israel threw stones at him, and they burned them with fire, and they stoned them with stones. ²⁶ And they raised over him a great heap of stones to this day. And Jehovah turned back from the heat of His anger. On this account the name of that place is The Valley of Grief until this day.

¹⁶ No number is to the gold, and to the silver, and to the bronze, and to the iron; rise up and act, for Jehovah is with you.

¹⁹ Now give your heart and your soul to seek to Jehovah your God, and rise up and build the sanctuary of Jehovah God, to bring in the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, and the holy vessels of God, to the house that is to be built in the name of Jehovah.

¹⁰ Watch, now, for Jehovah has chosen you to build a house for a sanctuary. Be strong and act.

²¹ And behold, the courses of the priests and the Levites shall be for all the service of the house of God. And with you in all work shall be every willing one with wisdom, for every service. And the rulers and all the people shall be according to all your words.

²³ Whatever is commanded by the God of Heaven, let it be carefully done for the house of the God of Heaven. For why should there be wrath against the realm of the king and his sons? ²⁴ Also, we notify you that in regard to any of the priests and the Levites, singers, gatekeepers, temple-slaves, or ministers of this house of God, it shall not be lawful to impose toll, taxes, or forced labor on them. ²⁵ And you, Ezra, according to the wisdom of your God in your hand, you appoint judges and magistrates who may judge all the people who are Beyond the River; all who know the laws of your God; and those who do not know, you cause to know. ²⁶ And whoever will not do the law of your God, and the law of the king, let judgment be executed diligently on him, whether to death, or to exile, or to confiscation of goods, or imprisonment. ²⁷ Blessed be Jehovah, the God of our fathers, who has put this in the king's heart, to beautify the house of Jehovah in Jerusalem. ²⁸ And He has extended mercy to me before the king and his counselors, and before all the king's mighty leaders. And I was made strong, as the hand of Jehovah my God was on me. And I gathered out of Israel chief men to go up with me.

¹⁰ All that your hand finds to do, do it with your strength. For there is no work, or planning, or knowledge, or wisdom, in Sheol, there where you go.

³ Make the weak hands strong, and firm up the feeble knees. ⁴ Say to those of a hasty heart, Be strong! Do not fear! Behold, your God will come with vengeance; with the full dealing of God, He will come and save you.

³⁴ As a man going away, leaving his house, and giving his slaves authority, and to each his work (and he commanded the doorkeeper, that he watch),

²⁴ And let us consider one another, to incitement of love and of good works,

¹² Because of this, "straighten the hands" hanging alongside, "and the enfeebled knees;" ¹³ "and make straight tracks for your feet," that the lame not be turned aside, but rather healed. Isa. 35:3; Prov. 4:26

³ And now let us cut a covenant with our God to put away all the women, and those born of them, according to the counsel of the Lord and of those who tremble at the command of our God. And let it be done according to the law.

¹² And they said, We will restore, and will ask nothing from them. So we will do as you say. Then I called the priests and took an oath from them that they would do according to this word.

²⁹ were holding fast to their brothers, their honored ones; and were entering into a curse and into an oath, to walk in God's law which was given by Moses the servant of God, and to keep and to do all the commandments of Jehovah our Lord, and His judgments and His statutes.

²⁵ And I contended with them, and put a curse on them, and struck some of them, and I plucked their hair. And I made them swear by the name of God, saying, You shall not give your daughter to their sons, nor take their daughters to your sons, or for yourselves.

⁵ The wise hears and increases learning, and the understanding ones gets wise counsel,

⁹ Give to a wise one, and he will be more wise; teach a just one, and he will increase in learning.

²³ A man has joy by the answer of his mouth, and how good is a word in its season!

¹¹ A word rightly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver. ¹² As a ring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover on a hearing ear.

⁹ Ointment and perfume give joy to the heart, and one's friend is sweet from the counsel of the soul.

⁶³ But Jesus kept silent. And answering, the high priest said to Him, I adjure you by the living God that you tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God.

²⁸ And he was there with Jehovah forty days and forty nights; he did not eat bread and he did not drink water. And He wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments.

¹⁸ And I fell down before Jehovah, as at the first, forty days and forty nights; I ate no bread and drank no water; because of all your sins which you had sinned, in doing that which was evil in the eyes of Jehovah, to make Him angry.

¹ And while Ezra was praying and making his confession, weeping and casting himself down before the house of God, a very great congregation of men and women and children gathered to him out of Israel. For the people wept with a great weeping.

¹ And Eliashib the high priest rose up with his brothers the priests. And they built the Sheep Gate. They sanctified it and set up its doors. Even to the Tower of Meah they sanctified it, to the Tower of Hananeel.

²⁰ After him Baruch the son of Zabbai earnestly repaired the other piece from the corner to the door of the house of Eliashib the high priest.

¹⁰ And Jeshua fathered Joiakim, and Joiakim fathered Eliashib; and Eliashib fathered Joiada;

²² The Levites in the days of Eliashib, Joiada, and Johanan, and Jaddua, were written rulers of the fathers; also the priests until the reign of Darius the Persian.

⁵ (and he had prepared for himself a large room where they had in days past laid the food offering, the frankincense, and the vessels, and the tithes of the grain, the new wine, and the oil, which was commanded to be given to the Levites, and the singers, and the gatekeepers, and the offerings of the priests).

²⁸ And one of the sons of Joiada, the son of Eliashib the high priest, was son-in-law to Sanballat the Horonite. And I chased him from me.

¹² nor have I departed from the command of His lips; I treasured the words of His mouth more than my portion.

¹² And in that day the Lord Jehovah of Hosts called to weeping and mourning; and to baldness, and to girding with sackcloth.

³ And I set my face toward the Lord God, to seek by prayer and holy desires, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes.

³¹ But in the meantime the disciples asked Him, saying, Rabbi, eat? ³² But He said to them, I have food to eat which you do not know. ³³ Then the disciples said to one another, No one brought Him food to eat? ³⁴ Jesus said to them, My food is that I should do the will of Him who sent Me, and that I may finish His work.

⁵ And they established a decree to pass through a call to all Israel, from Beersheba even to Dan, to come to make a Passover to Jehovah the God of Israel in Jerusalem. For not many of them had done as it is written.

¹ And in the first year of Cyrus King of Persia, so that the word of Jehovah by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled, Jehovah stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, and he made a proclamation in all his kingdom, and also in writing, saying,

²⁸ But any devoted thing which a man devotes to Jehovah from all which belongs to him, of man or of animal, or of the field of his possession, it shall not be sold nor redeemed. Every devoted thing to Jehovah is most holy.

¹⁹ And all the silver and gold, and vessels of bronze and iron, they are holy to Jehovah; they shall come into the treasury of Jehovah.

⁵ And the sons of Israel said, Who is he that did not come up in the assembly out of all the tribes of Israel to Jehovah? For a great oath had been undertaken concerning him that did not come up to Jehovah to Mizpeh saying, He shall surely be put to death.

⁷ And he took the team of oxen and cut them in pieces, and he sent them into all the boundary of Israel, by the hand of the messengers, saying, Whoever does not come out after Saul and after Samuel, so it shall be done to his oxen. And the fear of Jehovah fell on the people. And they came out as one man.

²⁶ And whoever will not do the law of your God, and the law of the king, let judgment be executed diligently on him, whether to death, or to exile, or to confiscation of goods, or imprisonment.

³ And it happened, when they had heard the Law, they separated all the mixed multitude from Israel.

¹⁷ But if he fails to hear them, tell it to the church. And if he also fails to hear the church, let him be to you as the nations and the tax collector.

²² His parents said these things because they feared the Jews; for the Jews had already agreed that if anyone should confess Him as Christ, he would be expelled from the synagogue.

³⁴ They answered and said to him, You were born wholly in sins, and do you teach us? And they threw him outside.

² They will put you out of the synagogue, but an hour is coming that everyone killing you will think to bear a service before God.

¹³ But God will judge the ones outside. "And you shall put out the evil one from you." Deut. 17:7

¹⁷ Is it not wheat harvest today? I will call to Jehovah and He will give sounds and rain. And know and see that your evil is great, that which you have done in the eyes of Jehovah, to ask a king for yourselves. ¹⁸ And Samuel called to Jehovah. And Jehovah gave sounds and rain in that day. And all the people greatly feared Jehovah and Samuel.

⁸ And he came to Jerusalem in the fifth month, in the seventh year of the king. ⁹ For on the first of the first month, he laid the foundation in order to go up from Babylon, and on the first of the fifth month he came to Jerusalem, according to the good hand of God on him.

¹⁶ And Esther was taken to king Ahasuerus into his royal house in the tenth month, which is the month Tebeth, in the seventh year of his reign.

¹⁰ But Jehovah is the true God, He is the living God and the everlasting King. At His wrath the earth shall tremble, and the nations shall not be able to stand His indignation.

¹³ When He utters His voice, there is a noise of waters in the heavens. He causes the vapors to go up from the ends of the earth; He makes lightnings for the rain and brings forth the wind out of His storehouses.

¹⁴ And, behold, you have risen up in your fathers' stead. an increase of sinful men, to add still more to the heat of Jehovah toward Israel!

¹⁷ Is the iniquity of Peor too little for us, from which we have not been cleansed until this day? Yea, a plague came on the company of Jehovah; ¹⁸ that you turn away today from following after Jehovah? And it shall be that today you rebel against Jehovah, and tomorrow He shall be angry with all the company of Israel.

¹³ And they said to them, You shall not bring the captives here, for guilt against Jehovah is on us; you are planning to add to our sin and to our guilt, for plenty of guilt is ours, and the glow of anger on Israel.

⁶ And I said, O my God, I am ashamed and wounded to lift up my face to You, O my God. For our iniquities have increased over our head, and our guiltiness has grown to the heavens.

³² And you fill up the measure of your fathers.

⁴⁰ And if they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, in their trespass with which they have trespassed against Me; and, also, that they have walked contrary to Me, ⁴¹ I also will walk contrary to them, and I will bring them into the land of their enemies. If their uncircumcised hearts are then humbled, and they then have satisfied for their iniquity; ⁴² then I will remember My covenant with Jacob; and also My covenant with Isaac; and I shall also remember My covenant with Abraham, and I shall remember the land.

³ nor shall you intermarry with them; you shall not give your daughter to his son, nor shall you take his daughter to your son. ⁴ For he will turn your son away from following Me, that they may serve other gods; and the anger of Jehovah will glow against you, and He will destroy you quickly.

¹⁹ And Joshua said to Achan, My son, I beg you, give glory to Jehovah, the God of Israel, and give thanks to Him, and please tell me what you have done. Do not hide it from me.

¹ And at the end of these things, the leaders came near to me, saying, The people of Israel, and the priests, and the Levites, have not separated themselves from the people of the lands, as to their idolatries, even the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the Amorites.

¹³ He who covers his sins never prospers, but he who confesses and forsakes them shall have pity.

¹⁶ Wash yourselves, purify yourselves. Put away the evil of your doings from My sight; stop doing evil. ¹⁷ Learn to do good, seek justice, reprove the oppressor, judge the orphan, strive for the widow. ¹⁸ Come now and let us reason together, says Jehovah: Though your sins are as scarlet, they shall be white as snow; though they are red as the crimson, they shall be like wool.

⁴ For so says Jehovah to the eunuchs who keep My sabbaths and choose things I am pleased with, and take hold of My covenant:

¹³ Only acknowledge your iniquity, that you have rebelled against Jehovah your God and have scattered your ways to the strangers under every green tree, and you have not obeyed My voice, says Jehovah.

² And be not conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, in order to prove by you what is the good and pleasing and perfect will of God.

¹² But we have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit from God, so that we might know the things that are freely given to us by God. ¹³ Which things we also speak, not in words taught in human wisdom, but in words taught of the Holy Spirit, comparing spiritual things with spiritual things . ¹⁴ But a natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he is not able to know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

¹⁷ Because of this, "come out from among them" "and be separated," says the Lord, "and do not touch the unclean thing," and I will receive you. Isa. 52:11

¹⁰ for you to walk worthily of the Lord to all pleasing, bearing fruit in every good work and growing into the full knowledge of God;

²¹ perfect you in every good work, in order to do His will, doing in you that which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.

³ And now let us cut a covenant with our God to put away all the women, and those born of them, according to the counsel of the Lord and of those who tremble at the command of our God. And let it be done according to the law. ⁴ Rise up, for the matter is on you. We also will be with you. Be strong and act.

²³ In those days I also saw Jews who had dwelt with women from Ashdod, Ammon and Moab.

³⁷ For their heart was not steadfast with Him; and they were not faithful in His covenant.

⁵⁷ but they turned back and betrayed, like their fathers; they veered aside like a deceitful bow.

¹⁸ And among the sons of the priests, these were found who had dwelt with foreign women: From the sons of Jeshua the son of Jozadak and his brothers: Maaseiah, and Eliezer, and Jarib, and Gedaliah. ¹⁹ And they gave their hands that they would put away their women. And being guilty they offered a ram of the flock for their sin. ²⁰ And from the sons of Immer were Hanani and Zebadiah. ²¹ And from the sons of Harim: Maaseiah, and Elijah, and Shemaiah, and Jehiel, and Uzziah. ²² And from the sons of Pashur: Elioenai, Maaseiah, Ishmael, Nethaneel, Jozabad, and Elasah. ²³ Also from the Levites: Jozabad, and Shimei, and Kelaiah (he was Kelita), Pethahiah, Judah, and Eliezer. ²⁴ From the singers also were Eliashib; and from the gatekeepers, Shallum, and Telem, and Uri. ²⁵ And from Israel: From the sons of Parosh: Ramiah, and Jeziah, and Malchiah, and Miamin, and Eleazar, and Malchijah, and Benaiah. ²⁶ And from the sons of Elam: Mattaniah, Zechariah, and Jehiel, and Abdi, and Jeremoth, and Eliah. ²⁷ And from the sons of Zattu: Elioenai, Eliashib, Mattaniah and Jeremoth, and Zabad, and Aziza. ²⁸ And from the sons of Bebai: Jehohanan, Hananiah, Zabbai, Athlai. ²⁹ And from the sons of Bani: Meshullam, Malluch, and Adaiah, Jashub, and Sheal, Jeremoth. ³⁰ And from the sons of Pahath-moab: Adna, and Chelal, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattaniah, Bezaleel, and Binnui, and Manasseh. ³¹ And from the sons of Harim: Eliezer, Ishijah, Malchiah, Shemaiah, Shimeon, ³² Benjamin, Malluch, an Shemariah. ³³ From the sons of Hashum: Mattenai, Mattathah, Zabad, Eliphelet, Jeremai, Manasseh, and Shimei. ³⁴ From the sons of Bani: Maadai, Amram, and Uel, ³⁵ Benaiah, Bedeiah, Chelluh, ³⁶ Vaniah, Meremoth, Eliashib, ³⁷ Mattaniah, Mattenai, and Jaasau, ³⁸ and Bani, and Binnui, Shimei, ³⁹ and Shelemiah, Nathan, and Adaiah, ⁴⁰ Machnadebai, Shashai, Sharai, ⁴¹ Azareel, Shelemiah, Shemariah, ⁴² Shallum, Amariah, and Joseph. ⁴³ From the sons of Nebo: Jeiel, Mattithiah, Zabad, Zebina, Jadau, and Joel, Benaiah. ⁴⁴ All these had risen with foreign women; and there were some of them with women, and they gave sons.

¹³ Go in through the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many are the ones who go through it. ¹⁴ For narrow is the gate, and constricted is the way that leads away into life, and few are the ones who find it.

⁴ And Jehovah said to Moses, Take all the leaders of the people and hang them up to Jehovah before the sun, that the fierce anger of Jehovah may be turned away from Israel.

¹⁷ And not any of the cursed thing shall cleave to your hand, so that Jehovah shall turn from the fierceness of His anger, and shall give mercies to you, and shall love you, and shall multiply you, as He has sworn to your fathers,

⁹ And you shall come in to the priest, of the Levites, and to the judge who is in those days, and shall inquire. And they shall declare the sentence of judgment to you.

¹⁸ And it shall be, when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, he shall write for himself a copy of this law in a book, from before the priests, the Levites. ¹⁹ And it shall be with him, and he shall read in it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear Jehovah your God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them;

²⁶ And they raised over him a great heap of stones to this day. And Jehovah turned back from the heat of His anger. On this account the name of that place is The Valley of Grief until this day.

⁵ And he placed judges in the land, in all the fortified cities of Judah, for every city; ⁶ and said to the judges, Watch what you are doing, for you shall not judge for man, but for Jehovah, and He is with you in the matter of judgment; ⁷ and now, let the fear of Jehovah be upon you; watch and act, for there is no perverseness with Jehovah our God, nor lifting up of faces, nor taking of a bribe.

⁸ Now do not stiffen your necks like your fathers. Give a hand to Jehovah and come to His holy place that He has sanctified forever; and serve Jehovah your God. And the fierceness of His anger will turn away from you.

³⁸ But He being merciful atoned for iniquity and did not destroy; and He added to turn away His anger, and did not stir up all his wrath.

¹ And in that day you shall say, O Jehovah, I will thank You. Though You were angry with me, turn away Your anger and You shall comfort me.

⁶ And the Old Gate was repaired by Jehoiada the son of Paseah, and Meshullam the son of Besodeiah. They laid its beams, and set up its doors, and its locks, and its bars.

²⁰ Magpiash, Meshullam, Hezir,

¹⁶ And Shabbethai and Jozabad, of the rulers of the Levites, had the oversight of the outward business of the house of God.

³³ even Azariah, Ezra, and Meshullam,

¹⁴ then you shall inquire and make search, and ask carefully; and, behold, if the thing is truly established, that this abominable thing has been done among you,

¹⁶ I was father to the poor, and the cause which I did not know, I searched out.

⁵¹ Does our Law judge the Man unless it hear from him first, and know what he does?

⁷ They shall not take a woman who is a prostitute, or polluted; nor shall they take a woman put away from her husband; for he is holy to his God.

¹³ And he shall take a wife in her virginity. ¹⁴ He shall not take a widow, or one put away, or a polluted one, a harlot, but he shall take a virgin of his own people for a wife; ¹⁵ and he shall not pollute his seed among his people; for I am Jehovah who sanctifies him.

²² And Eli was very old, and had heard all that his sons did to Israel, and how they lay with the women who assembled by troops at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. ²³ And he said to them, Why do you do things like these? For I am hearing of your evil doings from all these people. ²⁴ No my sons, for the report which I am hearing is not good, causing the people of Jehovah to transgress.

¹⁴ and Azariah fathered Seraiah; and Seraiah fathered Jehozadak; ¹⁵ and Jehozadak went away when Jehovah exiled Judah and Jerusalem by the hand of Nebuchadnezzar.

² who came with Zerubbabel: Jeshua, Nehemiah, Seraiah, Reelaiah, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispar, Bigvai, Rehum, Baanah. This is the number of the men of the people of Israel:

² Then Jeshua the son of Jozadak stood up, and his brothers the priests, and Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and his brothers, and built the altar of the God of Israel in order to offer burnt offerings on it, as it is written in the law of Moses the man of God.

² Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak rose up and began to build the house of God in Jerusalem. And with them were the prophets of God helping them.

⁴ And Ezra the scribe stood on a pulpit of wood which they had made for the purpose. And beside him stood Mattithiah, and Shema, and Anaiah, and Urijah, and Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, on his right hand; and on his left hand were Pedaiah, and Mishael, and Malchiah, and Hashum, and Hashbadana, Zechariah, and Meshullam.

⁷ And Jeshua, and Bani, and Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodijah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, caused the people to understand the Law. And the people were in their place.

¹¹ For both prophet and priest are ungodly; yea, I have found their evil in My house, says Jehovah.

¹⁴ I have also seen a horrible thing among the prophets of Jerusalem; they commit adultery and walk in falsehood. And they make the hands of evildoers strong, so that not a man returns from his evil. They are all of them like Sodom to Me, and her inhabitants like Gomorrah.

²² And they shall not take a widow or a divorcee, for wives for themselves, but they shall only take virgins of the seed of the house of Israel, or a widow who is the widow of a priest.

¹ In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, the word of Jehovah came by Haggai the prophet to Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah; and to Joshua, the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying:

¹ And he made me see Joshua the high priest standing before the Angel of Jehovah, and Satan standing at his right hand to accuse him.

⁸ But you have turned out of the way; you have caused many to stumble at the law. You have corrupted the covenant of Levi, says Jehovah of hosts. ⁹ So I have also made you despised and low to all the people, just as you have not kept My ways, but are lifting up faces in the law.

¹¹ Likewise, their wives to be reverent, not slanderers, temperate, faithful in all things.

¹⁵ If a person commits a trespass and sins in ignorance against the holy things of Jehovah, then he shall bring his guilt offering to Jehovah, a ram, a perfect one out of the flock, at your evaluation in silver shekels, by the shekel of the sanctuary, for a guilt offering. ¹⁶ And he shall make good that in which he sinned against the holy thing, and he shall add its fifth part to it, and give it to the priest. And the priest shall atone for him with the ram of the guilt offering; and it shall be forgiven him.

⁴ then it shall be, when he sins and is guilty, he shall return what he got by robbery, that which he robbed, or the extorted thing which he extorted, or the deposit which had been deposited with him, or the lost thing which he had found;

⁶ And he shall bring his guilt offering to Jehovah: a ram, a perfect one out of the flock, at your evaluation for a guilt offering, to the priest.

¹⁵ And he left there and found Jehonadab the son of Rechab coming to meet him, and he blessed him. And he said to him, Is your heart right, as my heart is with your heart? And Jehonadab said, It is. If it is, give your hand. And he gave his hand, and he made him come up to him into the chariot.

²⁴ And all the rulers, and the mighty men, and also all the sons of king David, submitted themselves to Solomon the king.

⁶ We have given the hand to the Egyptians, to the Assyrian, in order to be satisfied with bread.

⁹ and knowing the grace given to me, James and Cephas and John, those seeming to be pillars, gave right hands of fellowship to Barnabas and to me, that we go to the nations, but they to the circumcision;

¹⁴ the fifteenth to Bilgah, the sixteenth to Immer,

³⁷ The sons of Immer, a thousand and fifty two.

⁸ the third to Harim, the fourth to Seorim,

³⁹ The sons of Harim, a thousand and seventeen.

¹² and Adaiah the son of Jeroham, the son of Pashur, the son of Malchijah; and Maasiai the son of Adiel, the son of Jahzerah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Meshillemith, the son of Immer;

³⁸ The sons of Pashur, a thousand, two hundred and forty seven.

⁴¹ The sons of Pashur were a thousand, two hundred and forty seven.

³³ And on the fourth day the silver and the gold and the articles were weighed in the house of our God by the hand of Meremoth the son of Uriah the priest. And with him was Eleazar the son of Phinehas, and with them was Jozabad the son of Jeshua, and Noadiah the son of Binnui, the Levites.

¹⁰ and their brothers, Shebaniah, Hodijah, Kelita, Pelaiah, Hanan,

³ The sons of Parosh, two thousand, one hundred and seventy two;

⁸ the sons of Parosh were two thousand, one hundred and seventy two.

⁷ And from the sons of Elam, Jeshaiah the son of Athaliah, and seventy males with him.

² And Shechaniah the son of Jehiel, of the sons of Elam, answered and said to Ezra, We have sinned against our God, and have dwelt with foreign women from the peoples of the land. Yet now there is hope in Israel concerning this thing.

⁸ The sons of Zattu, nine hundred and forty five.

¹¹ And from the sons of Bebai, Zechariah the son of Bebai, and twenty eight males with him.

⁴ Hattush, Shebaniah, Malluch,

⁶ The sons of Pahathmoab, of the sons of Jeshua and Joab, two thousand, eight hundred and twelve.

⁴ From the sons of Pahathmoab, Elihoenai the son of Zerahiah, and two hundred males with him.

¹¹ The sons of Pahath-moab, of the sons of Jeshua and Joab, were two thousand, eight hundred and eighteen.

³² The sons of Harim, three hundred and twenty.

¹¹ Malchijah the son of Harim, and Hashub the son of Pahath-moab repaired the other piece, and the Tower of the Furnaces.

³⁵ The sons of Harim were three hundred and twenty.

¹⁹ The sons of Hashum, two hundred and twenty three.

²² The sons of Hashum were three hundred and twenty eight.

²⁹ The men of Nebo, fifty two.

³³ The men of the other Nebo were fifty two.

¹⁶ These will deliver you from the strange woman, from the foreigner who flatters with her words,

³ For the lips of a strange woman drip honey, and her palate is sweeter than oil,

²⁰ And my son, why will you be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace a foreigner's bosom?
