¹ And it happened after this, David asked of Jehovah, saying, Shall I go up to one of the cities of Judah? And Jehovah said to him, Go up. And David said, Where shall I go up? And He said, To Hebron.

² And when he saw them, Jacob said, This is the camp of God. And he called the name of that place, Refuge.

²² And they went up into the Negeb, and came to Hebron. And Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the sons of Anak, were there. And Hebron had been built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.

²¹ And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall ask for him according to the judgment of the Urim before Jehovah. At his mouth they shall go out, and at his mouth they shall come in, he and all the sons of Israel with him, even all the congregation.

¹³ And Joshua blessed him, and he gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for an inheritance. ¹⁴ Therefore, Hebron has belonged to Caleb the son of Jephunneh, the Kenizzite, for an inheritance to this day, because he fully followed after Jehovah the God of Israel. ¹⁵ And the name of Hebron before was City of Arba; that one was a great man among the Anakim. And the land had rest from war.

¹ And it happened after the death of Joshua, the sons of Israel inquired of Jehovah, saying, Who shall first go up for us against the Canaanites, to fight against them?

² And David asked of Jehovah, saying, Shall I go? And shall I strike against these Philistines? And Jehovah said to David, Go, and you shall strike the Philistines and save Keilah.

⁴ And David once again inquired of Jehovah. And Jehovah answered him and said, Rise up, go down to Keilah, for I have given the Philistines into your hand.

⁹ But David knew that Saul was devising evil against him. And he said to Abiathar the priest, Bring the ephod near. ¹⁰ And David said, O Jehovah the God of Israel, Your servant has surely heard that Saul seeks to come to Keilah to destroy the city because of me. ¹¹ Will the masters of Keilah shut me up into his hand? Will Saul come down as Your servant has heard? I pray You, Jehovah the God of Israel, tell your servant. And Jehovah said, He will come down. ¹² And David said, Will the masters of Keilah shut me and my men up into Saul's hand? And Jehovah said, They will shut you up.

⁷ And David said to Abiathar the priest, the son of Ahimelech, Please bring the ephod near to me. And Abiathar brought the ephod to David. ⁸ And David asked of Jehovah, saying, Shall I pursue this troop? Shall I overtake it? And He said to him, Pursue for you shall certainly overtake, and shall certainly recover.

³¹ and to those in Hebron, and to all the places where David had gone up and down, he and his men.

¹¹ And it happened, the number of the days that David was king in Hebron, over the house of Judah, was seven years and six months.

¹ And all the tribes of Israel came to David, to Hebron, and spoke, saying, Behold, we are your bone and we are your flesh. ² Both yesterday and the day before, when Saul was king over us, you were he who led out and brought in Israel. And Jehovah said to you, You shall shepherd My people Israel, and you shall be for a leader over Israel. ³ And all the elders of Israel came to the king, to Hebron. And king David cut a covenant with them in Hebron before Jehovah. And they anointed David as king over Israel.

¹⁹ And David asked of Jehovah, saying, Shall I go up to the Philistines? Will You give them into my hand? And Jehovah said to David, Go up, for I will certainly give the Philistines into your hand.

²³ And David asked of Jehovah, and He said, You shall not go up. Turn around to their rear, and come to them in front of the weeping trees.

⁷ And at the end of forty years, it happened, Absalom said to the king, Please let me go and I shall pay my vow that I have vowed to Jehovah, in Hebron.

¹¹ And the days that David reigned over Israel were forty years. He reigned seven years in Hebron, and he reigned thirty three years in Jerusalem.

⁷ and gave for the service of the house of God of gold five thousand talents, and a myriad of darics; and ten thousand talents of silver, and eighteen thousand talents of bronze, and one hundred thousand talents of iron.

⁴ Make me know Your ways, O Jehovah; teach me Your paths; ⁵ lead me in Your truth, and teach me; for You are the God of my salvation; on You I wait all the day long.

⁴ One thing I have asked from Jehovah, it I will seek: my dwelling in the house of Jehovah all the days of my life, to behold the delight of Jehovah, and to inquire in His temple.

⁸ Cause me to hear Your mercy in the morning, for I do trust in You; cause me to know the way I should walk, for I lift up my soul to You.

⁵ Trust in Jehovah with all your heart, and lean not to your own understanding; ⁶ In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.

³⁷ So says the Lord Jehovah: Yet for this I will be sought by the house of Israel, to work for them. I will increase them with men like a flock.
