⁹ "However, _⌊take care_⌋* for yourself and watch your inner self* closely, so that you do not forget the things that your eyes have seen, so that they do not slip from your mind all the days of your life; and you shall make them known to your children and to _⌊your grandchildren_⌋.*

²³ Watch out for yourselves so that you do not forget the covenant of Yahweh your God that he had _⌊made_⌋* with you and make for yourselves a divine image of the form of anything that Yahweh your God _⌊has forbidden_⌋,*

¹ "All of the commandments* that I am commanding you today you must diligently observe, so that you may live and multiply, and you may go and take possession of the land that Yahweh swore to your ancestors.*

¹⁶ what I am commanding you _⌊today_⌋* is to love Yahweh your God by going* in his ways and by keeping his commandments and his statutes and his regulations, and then you will live, and you will become numerous, and Yahweh your God will bless you in the _⌊land where you are going_⌋.* ¹⁷ However, if your heart turns aside and you do not listen and you are lured away and you bow down to other gods and you serve them, ¹⁸ I declare to you _⌊today_⌋* that you will certainly perish; _⌊you will not extend your time_⌋* on the land that you are crossing the Jordan to go there to take possession of it. ¹⁹ I invoke as a witness against you _⌊today_⌋* the heaven and the earth: life and death I have set _⌊before you_⌋,* blessing and curse. So choose life, so that you may live, you and your offspring,* ²⁰ by loving Yahweh your God by listening to his voice and by clinging to him, for he is your life and the length of your days in order for you to live on the land that Yahweh swore to your ancestors,* to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give to them."

¹¹ In my heart I have hidden your word,* so that I may not sin against you.

¹⁶ I will take delight in your statutes; I will not forget your word.

³⁴ Give me understanding, that I may keep your law and heed it with my whole heart.

⁴⁷ And I will take delight in your commands, which I love. ⁴⁸ And I will lift up my hands* to your commands, which I love, and I will meditate on your statutes.

⁹³ I will not ever forget your precepts, for by them you revive me.*

¹⁵³ See my misery and rescue me, for I do not forget your law.

¹⁷⁶ I have wandered like a lost sheep; seek your servant, because I do not forget your commands.

⁸ My child, may you keep* your father's instruction, and do not reject your mother's teachings,

⁵ Get wisdom and insight; do not forget and do not turn from the sayings of my mouth.

¹⁷ Rouse yourself! Rouse yourself! Stand up, Jerusalem, who have drunk from the hand of Yahweh the cup of his wrath; you have drunk the goblet, the cup of staggering; you have drained it out.

³³ "But this is the covenant that I will _⌊make_⌋* with the house of Israel after those days," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh: "I will put my law in their inward parts and on their hearts* I will write it, and I will be to them God, and they themselves will be to me people.

⁶ My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected knowledge, I reject you from acting as a priest for me.* And since you have forgotten the law of your God, I will also forget your children.*

²¹ The one who has my commandments and keeps them—that one is the one who loves me. And the one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and will reveal myself to him." ²² Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, "Lord, why* is it that you are going to reveal yourself to us and not to the world?" ²³ Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves me he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and _⌊will take up residence with him_⌋.* ²⁴ The one who does not love me does not keep my words, and the word that you hear is not mine, but the Father's who sent me.

¹⁶ With _⌊long life_⌋* I will satisfy him, and show him my salvation.

¹⁶⁵ Great peace is for those who love your law, and they do not have a cause for stumbling.

¹³ Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

¹ Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. ² "Honor your father and mother" (which is the first* commandment with a promise), ³ "in order that it may be well with you, and you may _⌊live a long time_⌋* on the earth."*

⁸ For the training of the body is _⌊somewhat_⌋* profitable, but godliness is profitable for everything, because it* holds promise for the present life and for the life to come.

⁹ And it will be as a sign on your hand and as a memorial between your eyes so that the law of Yahweh will be in your mouth, that with a strong hand Yahweh brought you out from Egypt.

⁸ And you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as an emblem between your eyes.

¹⁸ "And you shall put these, my words, on your heart and on your inner self,* and you shall bind them as a sign on your hand and let them be as an emblem between your eyes. ¹⁹ And you shall teach them to your children* by talking about them when you sit in your house and when you travel on the road and when you lie down and when you get up. ²⁰ And you shall write them on the doorframes of your house and on your gates, ²¹ so that they may multiply your days and the days of your children on the land that Yahweh swore to your ancestors* to give it to them _⌊as long as heaven endures over the earth_⌋.*

²⁰ Yesterday when you came and _⌊today_⌋,* I have caused you to wander by going with us. Now I am going to where I am going; return and let your brothers return. May loyal love and faithfulness be with you."

¹⁰ All the paths of Yahweh are loyal love and faithfulness for those who keep his covenant and statutes.*

⁹ for they are a garland of favor for your head, and pendants for your neck.

²¹ Bind them on your heart continually; tie them upon your neck.

³ Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart.

⁶ By loyalty and faithfulness, iniquity will be covered over,* and by fear of Yahweh _⌊one turns_⌋* from evil.

²⁸ Loyalty and faithfulness will preserve a king, and he is upheld with the righteousness of his throne.

¹ "The sin of Judah is written with an iron stylus, with a point of diamond it is engraved on the tablet of their heart, and on the horns of their altars.

¹ Hear the word of Yahweh, O children of Israel, for Yahweh has an indictment against the inhabitants of the land. There is no faithfulness or loyalty, there is no knowledge of God in the land.

¹⁸ Who is a God like you, forgiving sin and passing over rebellion for the remnant of his inheritance? He does not retain his anger forever, for he delights in loyal love. ¹⁹ _⌊He will again have compassion_⌋* on us; he will trample our iniquities. ²³ "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees—hypocrites!—because you pay a tenth of mint and dill and cumin, and neglect the more important matters of the law—justice and mercy and faithfulness! It was necessary* to do these things _⌊while not neglecting those_⌋.*

³ revealing that you are a letter of Christ, delivered by us, inscribed not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on stone tablets but on tablets of human hearts.

¹ Therefore become imitators of God, as beloved children, ² and live in love, just as also Christ loved us, and gave himself for us an offering and sacrifice to God for a fragrant smell.*

⁹ (for the fruit of the light is in all goodness and righteousness and truth),

¹⁶ "This is the covenant that I will decree for them after those days, says the Lord: I am putting my laws on their hearts, and I will write them on their minds."*

² And Yahweh was with Joseph, and he became a successful man. ⁷ Only be strong and very courageous _⌊to observe diligently the whole law_⌋* that Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn aside from it, to the right or left, so that you may succeed _⌊wherever you go_⌋.* ⁸ The scroll of this law will not depart from your mouth; you will meditate on it day and night so that _⌊you may observe diligently all that is written_⌋* in it. For then you will succeed in your ways and prosper.

²⁶ But the boy Samuel _⌊continued to grow in stature and in favor_⌋* with Yahweh and with the people.

¹⁰ The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom; all who do them* have a good understanding. His praise endures forever.

⁹ And God* gave Daniel favor and compassion _⌊before_⌋* the commander of the court officials,

⁵² And Jesus was advancing in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and with people.

⁴⁷ praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord was adding every day to the total of those who were being saved.

¹⁸ For the one who serves Christ in this way is well-pleasing to God and approved by people.

¹⁵ Look,* though he kill me, I will hope in* him; however, I will defend my ways _⌊before him_⌋.*

³ Trust Yahweh and do good. Abide in the land and feed on faithfulness.*

⁵ _⌊Commit to_⌋* Yahweh your way; Trust also on him and he will act.

⁷ Be quiet before Yahweh and wait for him. Do not fret about one who succeeds in his way, about a man making plots.

⁸ Trust him at all times, O people; pour out before him your heart. God is a refuge for us. Selah

⁹ O Israel, trust Yahweh; he is their help and their shield. ¹⁰ O house of Aaron, trust in Yahweh; he is their help and their shield. ¹¹ You who fear Yahweh, trust in Yahweh; he is their help and their shield.

¹ A song of ascents.*
Those who trust in Yahweh are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever.

³ Do not place trust in princes, in a son of humankind with whom there is no deliverance. ⁴ His breath departs; he returns to his plot;* on that day his plans perish. ⁵ Blessed is the one whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is on Yahweh as his God,

⁷ Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear Yahweh and retreat from evil.

¹⁹ In order for your trust to be in Yahweh, I have made them known to you _⌊today_⌋*—even* you.

⁴ Do not tire in order to become rich; out of your understanding, may you desist.

²⁶ He who trusts in his own heart* is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom will be saved.

² Look! God is my salvation; I will trust, and I will not be afraid, for my strength and might is Yah, Yahweh; and he has become salvation for me."

³ You will protect a firm inclination in peace, in peace because he trusts in you. ⁴ Trust in Yahweh forever, for in Yah, Yahweh you have an everlasting rock.

²³ Thus says Yahweh,
"The wise man must not boast in his wisdom, and the warrior must not boast in his might, the wealthy man must not boast in his wealth.

²³ I know, O Yahweh, that to the human is not his own way, nor to a person is the walking and the directing of his own step.

⁷ Blessed be the person who trusts in Yahweh, and Yahweh is his trust. ⁸ For he will be like a tree planted by water, and to the stream it sends its roots, and it will not fear when heat comes, and its leaves* will be luxuriant, and in the year of drought it will not be anxious, and it will not cease from the bearing of fruit.

¹⁶ Think the same thing toward one another; _⌊do not think arrogantly_⌋*, but associate with the lowly. Do not be wise _⌊in your own sight_⌋*.

¹⁸ Let no one deceive himself. If anyone thinks himself to be wise among you in this age, let him become a fool, in order that he may become wise. ¹⁹ For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God, for it is written, "The one who catches the wise in their craftiness,"* ²⁰ and again, "The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile."*

¹ Now concerning food sacrificed to idols, we know that "we all have knowledge."* Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up. ² If anyone thinks he knows anything, he has not yet known as it is necessary to know.

¹² that we who hoped beforehand in Christ should be for the praise of his glory,

¹¹ Furthermore, the ark of God was captured,* and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, died. ¹² A man of Benjamin ran from the battle line and came to Shiloh that same day, and his clothes were torn and earth was on his head.

²⁷ Blessed be Yahweh the God of our ancestors,* who put this in the heart of the king to glorify the house of Yahweh in Jerusalem

²² For I was ashamed to ask the king for troops and horses to protect us from enemies on the way because we said to the king, "the hand of our God is favorable to all who seek him, but his strength and anger are against all who forsake them." ²³ So we fasted and sought our God for this and he responded to our prayer.

¹¹ O Lord, please let your ear be attentive to the prayer of your servant and to the prayer of your servants who delight to revere in your name. Please, let your servant be successful this day and give him compassion before this man."
I was cupbearer for the king.

⁴ Then the king said to me, "What is your request?" So I prayed to the God of the heavens.

⁸ Good and right is Yahweh; therefore he instructs sinners in the way. ⁹ He causes the humble to walk in justice, and teaches the humble his way.

⁸ I* will instruct you and teach you in the way that you should go. I will advise you with my eye upon you.

³ Commit your work to Yahweh, and your plans will be established.

⁹ The _⌊mind_⌋* of a person will plan his ways, and Yahweh will direct his steps.

¹⁷ May your heart* not envy the sinners, but live in fear of Yahweh _⌊all day_⌋.*

²¹ And your ears shall hear a word from behind you, saying, "this is the way; walk in it," when you go to your right and when you go to your left.

¹³ I myself have stirred him up in righteousness, and I will make all his paths smooth. He himself shall build my city, and he shall set my exiles free,
not for price or a gift," says Yahweh of hosts.

¹⁷ Thus says Yahweh, your redeemer, the holy one of Israel:
"I am Yahweh your God, _⌊who teaches_⌋* you to profit, leads you in the way you should go.

³¹ Therefore, whether you eat or you drink or whatever you do, do all things for the glory of God.

¹⁶ But thanks be to God, who has put in the heart of Titus the same devotion _⌊on your behalf_⌋*,

⁶ Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

¹⁷ and everything _⌊whatever_⌋* you do in word or in deed, giving thanks for all things in the name of the Lord Jesus to God the Father through him.

²³ Whatever you do, accomplish it from the soul, as to the Lord, and not to people,

⁵ Now if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask for it from God, who gives to all without reservation and not reproaching, and it will be given to him.

¹⁵ The former governors who were before me laid burdens on the people, and they took food and wine from them, besides forty shekels. Also, their servants controlled the people, but I did not do so because of the fear of God.

¹ There was a man in the land of Uz whose* name was Job. That* man was blameless and upright and God-fearing and turning away from evil.

²⁸ And to the human beings he said, 'Look, the fear of the Lord is wisdom, and to depart from evil is understanding.'"

²⁷ The fear of Yahweh is a fountain of life, in order to turn from the snares of death.

¹² Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.

¹³ Now that all has been heard, here is the final conclusion: Fear God and obey his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.

²¹ Ah! Those who are wise in their own eyes and have understanding _⌊in their view_⌋!*

²⁵ For I do not want you to be ignorant, brothers, of this mystery, so that you will not be wise _⌊in your own sight_⌋,* that a partial hardening has happened to Israel, until the full number of the Gentiles has come in,

²⁴ His vats are full with milk and the marrow of his bones is moist.

³ He is the one who heals the brokenhearted, and binds up their wounds.

²² For they are life to those who find them and healing _⌊to the entire body_⌋.*

²⁴ Pleasant sayings are a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and healing to the bones.

⁶ From the sole of the foot and up to the head there is no health in it; bruise and sore and bleeding wound have not been cleansed, and they have not been bound up and not softened with the oil.

¹² For thus says Yahweh,
'Your injury is incurable, your wound is overcome by sickness. ¹³ There is no one who pleads your cause, for your boil there is no healing for you.

⁴ And as for your birth, _⌊on the day you were born_⌋* your umbilical cord was not cut, and _⌊you were not thoroughly washed clean with water_⌋,* and _⌊you were not thoroughly rubbed with salt_⌋,* and _⌊you were not carefully wrapped in strips of cloth_⌋.* ⁵ _⌊No eye took pity on you_⌋* to do to you one of these things to show compassion for you, and you were thrown _⌊into the open field_⌋* in their despising of you _⌊on the day you were born_⌋.*

and they presented them _⌊before_⌋* the tabernacle. ⁴ Yahweh said to Moses, saying, ⁵ "_⌊Take them_⌋,* and they will be used to do the work of the tent of the assembly; and you will give them to the Levites, each _⌊according to his required service_⌋."* ⁶ So Moses took the utility carts and the cattle, and he gave them to the Levites. ⁷ Two utility carts and four cattle he gave to the descendants* of Gershon _⌊according to their required service_⌋;* ⁸ and four utility carts and eight cattle he gave to the descendants* of Merari _⌊according to their required service_⌋,* _⌊under the authority of_⌋* Ithamar son of Aaron the priest. ⁹ But to the descendants* of Kohath he did not give anything because the work of the sanctuary they carried upon them on their shoulders.* ¹⁰ The leaders presented offerings for the dedication of the altar on the day of its anointing, and the leaders presented their offerings _⌊before_⌋* the altar. ¹¹ Yahweh said to Moses, "_⌊One leader for each day_⌋* will present their offering for the dedication of the altar." ¹² And it happened, the one who presented his offering on the first day was Nahshon son of Amminadab from the tribe of Judah. ¹³ His offering was one plate of silver—its weight was one hundred and thirty shekels—and one silver bowl weighing seventy shekels according to the sanctuary shekel, _⌊both of them_⌋* filled with finely milled flour mixed with oil as a grain offering; ⁸⁵ each plate of silver weighed one hundred and thirty shekels, and each bowl for drinking seventy, all the silver of the vessels two thousand four hundred shekels, according to the sanctuary shekel; ⁸⁶ the twelve golden dishes filled with incense, each dish weighing ten shekels according to the sanctuary shekel, all the gold of the dishes one hundred and twenty; ⁸⁷ all the cattle for the burnt offering twelve bulls, twelve rams, twelve male lambs _⌊in their first year_⌋,* and their grain offering; and twelve he-goats as a sin offering; ⁸⁸ and all the cattle of the sacrifice of the fellowship offering twenty-four bulls, sixty rams, sixty he-goats, sixty male lambs _⌊in their first year_⌋.* These were the dedication of the altar after its anointing. ⁸⁹ And when Moses came to the tent of assembly to speak with him,* he would hear the voice speaking to him from the atonement cover,* which is on the ark of the testimony, from between the two cherubim, and he would speak to him.

⁵⁰ So we brought the offering of Yahweh, what each man found, objects of gold, bangles,* bracelets,* rings,* earrings,* and female ornaments,* to make atonement for ourselves _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh." ⁵¹ Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold from them, all objects of work. ⁵² All the gold of the contribution that they raised up to Yahweh, from the commanders of the thousands and the commanders of the hundreds, was sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty shekels. ⁵³ The men of battle plundered each for himself. ⁵⁴ So Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold from the commanders of the thousands and hundreds, and they brought it to the tent of the assembly as a memorial for the _⌊Israelites_⌋* before Yahweh.

² then you shall take from the firstfruit of all the fruit of the ground that you harvest from your land that Yahweh your God is giving to you, and you shall put it in a basket, and you shall go to the place that Yahweh your God will choose to make his name to dwell there. ³ And you shall go to the priest who is in office in those days, and you shall say, 'I declare _⌊today_⌋* to Yahweh your God that I have come into the land that Yahweh swore to our ancestors* to give to us.' ⁴ Then the priest takes the basket from your hand and places it _⌊before_⌋* the altar of Yahweh your God. ⁵ And _⌊you shall declare_⌋* and you shall say _⌊before_⌋* your God, 'My ancestor* was a wandering Aramean, and he went down to Egypt, and there he dwelt as an alien _⌊few in number_⌋,* and there he became a great nation, mighty and numerous. ⁶ And the Egyptians treated us badly, and they oppressed us and imposed on us hard labor. ⁷ And we cried to Yahweh, the God of our ancestors,* and Yahweh heard our voice and saw our affliction and our toil and our oppression. ⁸ And Yahweh brought us out from Egypt with a strong hand and an outstretched arm and with great terror and with signs and with wonders. ⁹ And he brought us to this place and gave to us this land, a land flowing with milk and honey. ¹⁰ And now, look, I am bringing* the firstfruit of the fruit of the ground that you gave to me, Yahweh,' and you shall place it _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh your God, and you shall bow down _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh your God. ¹¹ And you shall celebrate with all of the bounty that Yahweh your God gave to you and to your family, you and the Levite and the alien who is in your midst. ¹² "When you are finished _⌊giving a tithe_⌋,* all of the tithe of your produce in the third year, the year of the tithe, then you shall give to the Levite, to the alien, to the orphan, and to the widow, so that they may eat in your towns and they may be satisfied. ¹³ And you shall say _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh your God, 'I have removed the sacred portion from the* house and, moreover, I have given it to the Levite and to the alien and to the orphan and to the widow according to all your commandment that you commanded me; I have not transgressed any of your commandments, and I have not forgotten any of them. ¹⁴ I have not eaten during my time of mourning, and I have not removed anything from it while being unclean, and I have not offered _⌊any of it_⌋* to someone who has died. I have listened to the voice of Yahweh my God; I have done all that you commanded me to do. ¹⁵ Look down from the dwelling place of your holiness, from heaven, and bless your people Israel, and the land that you have given to us, as you swore to our ancestors,* a land flowing with milk and honey.'

³¹ He who oppresses the poor insults him who made him, but he who has mercy on the poor honors him.

⁴ "Is it a time for you yourselves to dwell in your houses that have been paneled while this house* is desolate?" ⁵ And so then, thus says Yahweh of hosts: '_⌊Consider your ways_⌋!* ⁶ You have sown much but have harvested little. You have eaten without being satisfied; _⌊you have drunk without being satiated_⌋;* you have worn clothes without being warm; the one who earns wages puts it in _⌊a pouch with holes_⌋.'* ⁷ Thus says Yahweh of hosts: '_⌊Consider your ways_⌋!* ⁸ Go up the mountain and bring wood and build the house* so that I may be pleased with it and honored,' says Yahweh. ⁹ 'You have looked for much, and look! It came to little; and when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why?' _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh of hosts. 'Because my house is desolate and you are running each to your own house!

⁸ Will a human dare to rob God? Yet you are robbing me! And you say, 'How have we robbed you?' In the tithes and the contributions! ⁹ You are being cursed with a curse, for you are robbing me, the whole nation of you! ¹⁰ Bring the whole tithe to _⌊the storehouse_⌋,* so that there will be food in my house, and test me please in this," says Yahweh of hosts, "if I will not open for you the windows of heaven, and pour forth for you _⌊an overflowing blessing_⌋.*

⁷ For the poor you always have with you, and you can do good for them whenever you want, but you do not always have me. ⁸ She has done what she could; _⌊she has anointed my body beforehand_⌋* for burial.

¹⁰ And Judas Iscariot, who was one of the twelve, went to the chief priests in order to betray him to them. ¹¹ And when* they heard this,* they were delighted, and promised to give him money. And he began seeking* how he could betray him conveniently. ¹² And on the first day of the feast of Unleavened Bread, when they sacrificed the Passover lamb, his disciples said to him, "Where do you want us to go and* prepare, so that you can eat the Passover?" ¹³ And he sent two of his disciples and said to them, "Go into the city and a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him, ¹⁴ and wherever he enters, say to the master of the house, 'The Teacher says, "Where is my guest room where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?" ' ¹⁵ And he will show you a large upstairs room furnished* and* ready, and prepare for us there." ¹⁶ And the disciples went out and came into the city and found everything* just as he had told them, and they prepared the Passover. ¹⁷ And when it* was evening, he arrived with the twelve. ¹⁸ And while* they were reclining at table and eating, Jesus said, "Truly I say to you, that one of you who is eating with me will betray me." ¹⁹ They began to be distressed and to say to him one by one, "Surely not I?"* ²⁰ But he said to them, "It is one of the twelve—the one who is dipping bread* into the bowl with me. ²¹ For the Son of Man is going just as it is written about him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would be better for him if that man had not been born."

¹³ But whenever you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, ¹⁴ and you will be blessed, because they are not able to repay you. For it will be paid back to you at the resurrection of the righteous."

² On the first day of the week, each one of you _⌊put aside_⌋* something, saving up _⌊to whatever extent he has prospered_⌋*, in order that whenever I come, at that time collections do not take place.

² that with a great ordeal of affliction, the abundance of their joy and the extreme depth of their poverty have overflowed to the wealth of their generosity. ³ I testify that they gave* according to their ability, and beyond their ability, by their own choice,

⁸ I am not saying this as a command, but proving the genuineness of your love by means of the diligence of others. ⁹ For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that although he* was rich, for your sake he became poor, in order that you, by his poverty, may become rich.

¹⁷ Not that I seek the gift, but I seek for the profit that increases to your account. ¹⁸ But I have received everything in full and have an abundance; _⌊I am well supplied_⌋* because* I received from Epaphroditus _⌊what you had sent_⌋*, a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, well-pleasing to God.

¹⁷ But whoever has the world's material possessions and observes his brother _⌊in need_⌋* and shuts his heart against him, how does the love of God reside in him? ¹⁸ Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth.

² " 'You shall keep my Sabbaths, and you shall revere my sanctuary; I am Yahweh. ³ " 'If you walk in my statutes and you keep my commands and you do them, ⁴ then* I will give you rains in their time, and the land shall give its produce, and the trees of the field shall give their fruit. ⁵ And for you the threshing season shall overtake the grape harvest, and the grape harvest shall overtake the sowing, and you shall eat your food _⌊to your fill_⌋* and you shall live _⌊securely_⌋* in your land.

⁸ Yahweh will command _⌊concerning you_⌋* the blessing to be in your barns and _⌊in all your endeavors_⌋;* and he will bless you in the land that Yahweh your God is giving to you.

²⁴ There is one who gives yet _⌊grows richer_⌋,* but he who withholds _⌊what is right_⌋* only finds need. ²⁵ A person of blessing will be enriched, and he who gives water also will be refreshed.

¹⁷ He who lends to Yahweh is he who is kind to the poor, and his benefits he will repay to him.

⁹ He who _⌊is generous_⌋* will be blessed, for he gives to the poor from his own bread.

¹ Send out your bread on the water, for in many days you will find it. ² Divide your share in seven or in eight, for you do not know what disaster will happen on the earth.

²⁴ The threshing floors will be full with grain, and the vats will overflow with new wine and olive oil.

¹⁹ Is there still seed in the store chamber? Do the vine, the fig tree, the pomegranate, and the olive tree still produce nothing? From this day forward I will bless you.'"

¹⁰ Bring the whole tithe to _⌊the storehouse_⌋,* so that there will be food in my house, and test me please in this," says Yahweh of hosts, "if I will not open for you the windows of heaven, and pour forth for you _⌊an overflowing blessing_⌋.* ¹¹ I will rebuke the devourer* for you; it will not destroy the fruit of your soil; your vine in the field will not be unfruitful," says Yahweh of hosts.

⁴² And whoever gives one of these little ones only a cup of cold water to drink in the name of a disciple, truly I say to you, he will never lose his reward."

⁶ Now the point is this: the one who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the one who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. ⁷ Each one should give as he has decided in his heart, not _⌊reluctantly_⌋* or from compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. ⁸ And God is able to cause all grace to abound to you, so that in everything at all times, because you* have enough of everything, you may overflow in every good work. ⁹ Just as it is written,
"He scattered widely, he gave to the poor; his righteousness remains _⌊forever_⌋*."* ¹⁰ Now the one who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will provide and multiply your seed, and will cause the harvest of your righteousness to grow, ¹¹ being made rich in every way for all generosity, which is producing through us thanksgiving to God,

⁵ But now it has come to you, and you are worn out; it touches you, and you are horrified.

¹⁷ "Look, happy is the human being whom God reproves; and you must not despise the discipline of Shaddai,

¹² Blessed is the man, O Yah, whom you instruct and teach from your law,

¹⁰ If you faint on the day of adversity, little is your strength.

³⁰ Even* young people will be faint and grow weary, and the young will stumble, exhausted. ³¹ But* those who wait for Yahweh shall renew their strength. They shall go up with wings* like eagles; they shall run and not grow weary; they shall walk and not be faint.

³² But if we* are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined, in order that we will not be condemned with the world.

¹ Because of this, since we* have this ministry, just as we have been shown mercy, we do not lose heart,

¹⁶ Therefore we do not lose heart, but even if our outer person is being destroyed, yet our inner person is being renewed day after day. ¹⁷ For our momentary light affliction is producing in us an eternal weight of glory _⌊beyond all measure and proportion_⌋*,

³ For consider the one who endured such hostility by sinners against himself,* so that you will not grow weary in your souls and give up.

⁵ And have you completely forgotten the exhortation which instructs you as sons?
"My son, do not make light of the Lord's discipline, or give up when you are corrected by him. ⁶ For the Lord disciplines the one whom he loves, and punishes every son whom he accepts."* ⁷ Endure it for discipline. God is dealing with you as sons. For what son is there whom a father does not discipline? ⁸ But if you are without discipline, in which all legitimate sons* have become participants, then you are illegitimate and not sons. ⁹ Furthermore, we have had _⌊our earthly fathers_⌋* who disciplined us, and we respected them. Will we not much rather subject ourselves to the Father of spirits and live? ¹⁰ For they disciplined us for a few days according to what seemed appropriate to them, but he does so for our benefit, in order that we can have a share in his holiness. ¹¹ Now all discipline seems for the moment not to be joyful but painful, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness for those who are trained by it. ¹² Therefore strengthen your slackened hands and your weakened knees,

¹⁹ As many as I love, I reprove and discipline. Be zealous, therefore, and repent!

⁵ And you should know with your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so Yahweh your God is disciplining you.*

¹³ As a father pities* his children, so Yahweh pities* those who fear him.

²⁴ He who withholds his rod hates his child, but he who loves him _⌊gives him_⌋* discipline.

¹⁷ Discipline your children, and they will give you rest, and they will give delight to your soul.*

¹ Now the queen of Sheba had heard of the fame of Solomon regarding the name of Yahweh, and she came to test him with hard questions. ² So she came to Jerusalem with very great wealth; with camels carrying spices, very much gold, and precious stones. She came to Solomon, and she spoke to him all that was on her heart. ³ _⌊Solomon answered all of her questions_⌋;* there was not a thing hidden from the king which he could not explain to her. ⁴ When the queen of Sheba observed all the wisdom of Solomon and the house which he had built, ⁵ the food of his table, the seat of his servants, the _⌊manner_⌋* of his servants and their clothing, his cupbearers, and his burnt offerings which he offered in the house of Yahweh, _⌊she was breathless_⌋.* ⁶ Then she said to the king, "The report which I heard in my land was true concerning your accomplishments and your wisdom. ⁷ I had not believed the report to be true until I came and my eyes had seen, and behold! ²³ King Solomon was greater than all the kings of the earth with respect to wealth and wisdom. ²⁴ All of the earth was seeking the presence of Solomon, to hear his wisdom which God had put in his heart.

¹⁵ Now, a poor wise man was found in it, and he delivered the city by his wisdom. ¹⁶ So I concluded that wisdom is better than might, yet the wisdom of the poor is despised, and his words are not heard. ¹⁷ The words of the wise are heard in peace more than the shouting of a ruler is heard among the fools. ¹⁸ Wisdom is better than weapons of war, but one sinner destroys much good.

¹¹ Then God said to Solomon, "Because this was with your heart and you did not ask for wealth, possessions, honor, and the lives of your enemies, and also did not ask for _⌊long life_⌋,* but have asked for wisdom and knowledge that you might judge my people over whom I have made you king, ¹² wisdom and knowledge is given to you. ⁷² The law of your mouth is better to me than thousands of gold and silver coins.

¹¹¹ I have taken as my own your testimonies forever, for they are the joy of my heart.

¹⁰ Take my teaching and not silver; may you choose knowledge rather than choice gold. ¹¹ For wisdom is better than jewels, and all desires shall not compare with her.

¹⁸ I advise you to buy from me gold refined by fire, in order that you may become rich, and white clothing, in order that you may be clothed and the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed, and eye salve to smear on your eyes, in order that you may see.

³⁰ _⌊who will not_⌋* receive a hundred times as much now in this time—houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and fields, together with persecutions—and in the age to come, eternal life.

²¹ So then, let no one boast in people. For all things are yours, ²² whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or things present or things to come, all things are yours, ²³ and you are Christ's, and Christ is God's.

¹⁰ as grieving, but always rejoicing, as poor, but making many rich, as having nothing, and possessing everything.

³ You will protect a firm inclination in peace, in peace because he trusts in you.

²⁶ to bring rain on a land _⌊where no one lives_⌋,* a desert _⌊where no humans live_⌋,* ²⁷ to satisfy desert and wasteland, and to cause the ground to put forth the rising of grass? ²⁸ Is there a father for the rain, or who fathered the drops of dew?

⁹ You care for* the land* and water it; you greatly enrich it. The stream of God is filled with waters. You provide their grain, for so you have established it. ¹⁰ You drench its furrows, penetrating its ridges. With rains you soften it; its growth you bless. ¹¹ You crown the year with your _⌊bounty_⌋,* and your wagon paths drip with _⌊richness_⌋.* ¹² They drop on the pastures of the wilderness, and the hills gird themselves with joy.

⁸ They ascended the mountains and drained though the valleys to the place that you established* for them. ⁹ You set a boundary that they may not cross over, so that they would not return to cover the earth.

²² Are there any among the idols of the nation who cause rain to pour? Or can the heavens give showers? Is it not you, O Yahweh our God? Therefore, we hope in you, for you do all these things.

²³ Be glad, O children of Zion, be glad and rejoice in Yahweh your God, because he has given for you the autumn rains for your righteousness,* and he has _⌊poured down_⌋* for you rainwater, the autumn and spring rains, as before.

⁴⁶ then he said to them, "_⌊Take to heart all the words_⌋* that I am admonishing against you _⌊today_⌋* concerning which you should instruct them with respect to your children* _⌊so that they will observe diligently_⌋* all the words of this law, ⁴⁷ for it is not a trifling matter among you, but it is your life, and through this word _⌊you will live long in the land_⌋* that you are about to cross the Jordan to get there to take possession of it."

⁸ The scroll of this law will not depart from your mouth; you will meditate on it day and night so that _⌊you may observe diligently all that is written_⌋* in it. For then you will succeed in your ways and prosper.

⁷ For the upright, he stores* sound judgment, a shield for those who walk uprightly,

²⁷ And as for you, the anointing which you received from him remains in you, and you do not have need that anyone teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you reside* in him.

¹⁶ Lord, they live by them, and the life of my spirit belongs to all among them. And restore me to health and keep me alive!

⁴⁹ For I have not spoken from myself, but the Father himself who sent me _⌊has commanded me_⌋* what I should say and what I should speak. ⁵⁰ And I know that his commandment is eternal life. So the things that I say, just as the Father said to me, thus I say."

²³ The steps of a man are established by Yahweh, and he takes pleasure in his way. ²⁴ Though he fall, he will not be cast headlong, for Yahweh supports him with his hand.

³¹ The law of his God is in his heart. His steps will not slip.

¹¹ For he will command his angels concerning you, to watch over you in all your ways. ¹² In their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.

³ He will not allow your foot to be moved; he who protects you will not slumber.

⁸ Yahweh will protect your going out and your coming in from now until forever.

⁸ in order to guard paths of justice and keep* the way of his faithful ones.

¹² _⌊When you walk_⌋,* your step will not be hampered, and if you run, you will not stumble.

⁹ Whoever walks in integrity* will walk securely, but whoever follows perversity, his ways will be made known.

¹² I will make them strong in Yahweh, and in his name they will walk, _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh.

⁶ And I will give peace in the land, and you shall lie down, and there shall not be _⌊anybody who makes you afraid_⌋,* and I will remove harmful animals from the land, and _⌊no sword shall pass through your land_⌋.*

¹⁹ And you will lie down, and _⌊no one will make you afraid_⌋;* _⌊and many will entreat your favor_⌋.*

⁵ I lay down and slept; I woke up because Yahweh sustains me.

⁸ In peace I will lie down and sleep _⌊at once_⌋,* for you alone, O Yahweh, make me dwell safely.

⁶ And you are going to hear about wars and rumors of wars. See to it that you are not alarmed, for this must happen, but the end is not yet.

²⁶ In the fear of Yahweh, there is confidence of strength, and for his children, there will be refuge.

¹⁷ Though the fig tree does not blossom, nor there be fruit on the vines; the yield of the olive tree fails, and the cultivated fields do not yield food; the flock is cut off from the animal pen, and there is no cattle in the stalls, ¹⁸ Yet I will rejoice in Yahweh; I will exult in the God of my salvation.

²⁹ _⌊It is in my power_⌋* to do harm to you, but the God of your father spoke to me last night saying, '_⌊Take care_⌋* from speaking with Jacob, whether good or evil.'

¹ Woe to those who plan wickedness and evil deeds upon their beds! In the light of the morning they did it, because they have power in their hands.

⁷ Pay to everyone what is owed: pay taxes to whom taxes are due; pay customs duties to whom customs duties are due; pay respect to whom respect is due; pay honor to whom honor is due.*

¹⁰ So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who belong to the household of faith.

¹⁴ who gave himself for us, in order that he might redeem us from all lawlessness and purify for himself a people for his own possession, zealous for good deeds. ¹⁵ If a brother or a sister is poorly clothed and lacking food for the day, ¹⁶ and one of you should say to them, "Go in peace, keep warm and _⌊eat well_⌋*," but does not give them what is necessary for the body, what is the benefit?

⁴ Behold, the wages that were held back by you from the workers who reap your fields cry out, and the cries of the reapers have come to the ears of the Lord of hosts.

¹² And if he is a needy man, you shall not sleep in his pledge.* ¹³ You shall certainly return the pledge to him _⌊as the sun sets_⌋,* so that he may sleep in his cloak and may bless you, and it shall be considered righteousness _⌊on your behalf_⌋* _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh your God. ¹⁴ "You shall not exploit a hired worker, who is needy and poor, from among your fellow men or from among your aliens* who are in your land and in your _⌊towns_⌋.* ¹⁵ On his day you shall give his wage, and the sun shall not go _⌊down_⌋,* because he is poor and _⌊his life depends on it_⌋;* do this so that he does not cry out against you to Yahweh, _⌊and you incur guilt_⌋.*

¹ Do not boast _⌊about tomorrow_⌋,* for you do not know what the day will bring.

¹⁰ Whatever your hand finds to do—do it with all your might; for in Sheol—where you are going—no one works, plans, knows, or thinks about anything.

⁶ Sow your seed in the morning, and do not let your hands rest in the evening, for you do not know what will prosper— whether this or that, or whether both of them alike will succeed.

¹¹ So now also complete the doing of it, in order that just as you have the eagerness to want to do it, thus also you may complete it from what you have.

³ But I am sending the brothers in order that our boasting about you would not prove to be empty in this case, so that you may be prepared just as I was saying,

¹⁸ to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous, sharing freely,

²⁰ For they do not speak peace, but against the quiet ones of the land they plan deceitful words.

²⁰ He has put forth his hands against _⌊his friends_⌋;* he has defiled his covenant.

³ For look, they lie in wait for my life.* The mighty attack* against me, not because of my transgression or my sin, O Yahweh.

¹⁴ perversion in his heart, he devises evil; at all times he will send out discord.*

¹⁸ a devising heart, plans of deception, feet that hurry to run to evil,*

²² Have they not erred, those who plan evil? But loyalty and faithfulness belong to those who plan good.

²⁹ A person of violence will entice his neighbor and cause him to walk on a way that is not good. ³⁰ He who winks his eyes does so in order to plan perverse things; he who purses his lips will bring evil to pass.

¹⁸ Then they said, "Come and let us plan plans against Jeremiah, for instruction will not be lost from the priest, nor advice from the wise man, nor the word from the prophet. Come and _⌊let us bring charges against him_⌋,* and let us not listen attentively to any of his words." ¹⁹ Listen attentively to me, O Yahweh, and listen to the voice of my opponents. ²⁰ Should good be repaid in place of evil? Yet they have dug a pit for me. Remember my standing _⌊before you_⌋* to speak good for them, to avert your wrath from them.

¹ Woe to those who plan wickedness and evil deeds upon their beds! In the light of the morning they did it, because they have power in their hands. ² They covet fields and seize them, and houses, and they take them away. They oppress a man and his house; a man and his inheritance.

¹⁴ Like the release of water is the beginning of strife; before it breaks out, stop the quarrel.

⁶ The lips of a fool will bring strife, and his mouth calls out for a flogging.

⁸ do not hastily bring out to court, for* what will you do at its end, when your neighbor puts you to shame? ⁹ Argue your argument with your neighbor himself, the secret of another do not disclose,

²² A man of anger will stir strife, and the owner of anger, much transgression.

³⁹ But I say to you, do not resist the evildoer, but whoever strikes you on the right cheek,* turn the other to him also. ⁴⁰ And the one who wants to go to court with you and take your tunic, _⌊let him have_⌋* your outer garment also. ⁴¹ And whoever forces you to go one mile,* go with him two.

¹⁸ If it is possible on your part, be at peace with all people. ¹⁹ Do not take revenge yourselves, dear friends, but give place to God's wrath, for it is written, "Vengeance is mine, I will repay,"* says the Lord. ²⁰ But "if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by* doing this, you will heap up coals of fire upon his head."* ²¹ Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

⁶ But brother goes to court with brother, and this before unbelievers! ⁷ Therefore it is already completely a loss for you that you have lawsuits with one another. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be defrauded? ⁸ But you wrong and defraud, and do this to brothers!

²⁴ And the slave of the Lord must not quarrel, but be kind toward everyone, skillful in teaching, tolerant,

¹ Of David.*
Do not fret because of evildoers; do not be envious of doers of wickedness.

⁷ Be quiet before Yahweh and wait for him. Do not fret about one who succeeds in his way, about a man making plots. ⁸ Refrain from anger and forsake wrath. Do not fret; it only brings evil. ⁹ For evildoers will be cut off, but those who wait for Yahweh— they will possess the land.

³ because I envied the boastful when I saw the well-being* of the wicked.

¹⁵ My child, do not walk in their way.* Keep your foot from their paths, ¹⁶ for their feet run to evil, and they hurry to shed blood, ¹⁷ for "in vain* is the net scattered, in the sight of any _⌊winged bird_⌋."* ¹⁸ They lie in wait for their own blood. They ambush their own lives.

¹² in order to deliver you from the way of evil,* from a man who speaks devious things— ¹³ those who forsake the paths of uprightness to walk in ways of darkness, ¹⁴ those who are happy to do evil, for they delight in the deviousness of evil, ¹⁵ _⌊who are crooked in their ways_⌋,* and devious in their paths;

¹² The wicked covets the proceeds of evil, but the root of the righteous _⌊bears fruit_⌋.*

²² Do not rob the poor because he is poor, and do not crush the afflicted at the gate; ²³ For Yahweh will plead their case and despoil those who despoil them of life.* ²⁴ Do not befriend an owner* of _⌊anger_⌋,* and with a man of wrath you shall not associate; ²⁵ lest you learn his way and become entangled in a snare to yourself.*

¹ Do not envy men of evil, and do not desire to be with them.

¹⁹ Do not fret because of the evildoers; do not envy the wicked. ²⁰ For there will not be a future for the evil; the lamp of the wicked will die out.

⁸ Do not be surprised if you see the poor being oppressed with violence or do not see justice and righteousness in the province. For one official is watched by a higher official, and there are even higher officials over them!

²¹ envy, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, things which I am telling you in advance, just as I said before, that the ones who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

⁴ as when I was in the days of my prime, when God's confiding was over my _⌊house_⌋,*

²⁶ To the pure you show yourself pure. but to the wicked you show yourself shrewd.

¹⁴ Intimate fellowship with Yahweh is for those who fear him, and he makes known his covenant to them.

⁶ Go to the ant, lazy! Consider its ways and be wise. ⁷ It has no chief, officer, or ruler. ⁸ In the summer, it prepares its food; in the harvest, it gathers its sustenance. ⁹ How long will you lie down, lazy? When will you rise up from your sleep? ¹⁰ A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands for rest— ¹¹ like a _⌊robber_⌋* shall your poverty come, and what you lack like an armed man. ¹² A worthless man, an evil man, goes around with _⌊deceitful speech_⌋.* ¹³ Winking in his eye, shuffling in his foot, pointing in his fingers, ¹⁴ perversion in his heart, he devises evil; at all times he will send out discord.* ¹⁵ Upon _⌊such a man_⌋,* suddenly shall his calamity come; in a moment he will be damaged and there is no healing.* ¹⁶ There are six things Yahweh hates, and seven things are abominations of his soul:* ¹⁷ haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, ¹⁸ a devising heart, plans of deception, feet that hurry to run to evil,* ¹⁹ a false witness who breathes lies and sends out discord* between brothers.

¹³ The fear of Yahweh is hatred of evil, pride, and arrogance and an evil way. And I hate a mouth of perversity.

²⁰ An abomination of Yahweh are the _⌊crooked of heart_⌋,* but his delight are _⌊those with blameless ways_⌋.*

¹⁰ The heart* knows the bitterness of its soul,* but in its joy, it will not share itself with a stranger.

¹⁵ He who justifies the wicked and he who condemns the righteous, the two of them are both abominations of Yahweh.

²⁵ At that time Jesus answered and* said, "I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent, and have revealed them to young children.*

¹¹ And he answered and* said to them, "To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to those people it has not been granted.

¹⁵ And he said to them, "You are the ones who justify themselves in the sight of men, but God knows your hearts! For what is considered exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God.

¹⁵ No longer do I call you slaves, because the slave does not know what his master is doing. But I have called you friends, because everything that I have heard from my Father I have revealed to you.

¹⁷ The one who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers, I will give to him some of the hidden manna, and I will give to him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written, that no one knows except the one who receives it.'

¹⁴ " 'But* if you do not listen to me and you do not carry out* all these commands, ¹⁵ and if you reject my statutes and if your inner self* abhors my regulations, to not carry out* all my commands by your breaking my covenant, ¹⁶ I _⌊in turn_⌋* will do this to you: then* I will summon onto you horror, the wasting disease, and the fever that wastes eyes and that drains away life; and you shall sow your seed _⌊in vain_⌋,* and your enemies shall eat it. ¹⁷ And I will set my face against you, and you shall be defeated _⌊before_⌋* your enemies; and your haters shall rule over you, and you shall flee away, but* there shall not be _⌊anybody who is pursuing_⌋* you. ¹⁸ " 'And if in spite of these things you do not listen to me, then* I will continue to discipline you seven times for your sins. ¹⁹ And I will break the pride of your strength; and I will make your heaven like iron* and your land like copper. ²⁰ And your strength shall be consumed _⌊in vain_⌋;* and your land shall not give its produce, and the land's trees shall not give their fruit. ²¹ " 'And if you go against me in hostility and you are not willing to listen to me, then* I will add a plague onto you seven times according to your sins. ²² And I will send _⌊wild animals_⌋* out among you, and they shall make you childless, and they shall cut down your domestic animals, and they shall make you fewer; and your roads shall be desolate. ²³ " 'And if you do not accept correction from* me through these things, but* you go against me in hostility, ²⁴ then* I myself* will also go against you in hostility, and I myself* also will strike you seven times for your sins. ²⁵ And I will bring upon you a sword that seeks vengeance for the covenant, and you shall be gathered to your cities; and I will send a plague in your midst, and you shall be given into the hand of an enemy. ²⁶ At my breaking the _⌊supply_⌋* of bread* for you, then* ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and they shall return your bread by weight; and you shall eat it, and you shall not be satisfied. ²⁷ " 'And if through this you do not listen to me and you go against me in hostility, ²⁸ then* I will go against you in hostile anger, and also* I myself* will discipline you seven times for your sins. ²⁹ And you shall eat the flesh of your sons; and the flesh of your daughters you shall eat. ³⁰ And I will destroy your high places, and I will cut down your incense altars, and I will place your corpses on your idols' corpses; and my inner self* shall abhor you. ³¹ And I will lay your cities in ruins, and I will lay waste your sanctuaries; and I shall not smell your sacrifices'* appeasing fragrance. ³² And I myself* will lay waste the land, and your enemies who are living in it shall be appalled over it. ³³ And I will scatter you among the nations, and I will draw a sword behind you; and your land shall be a desolation, and your cities shall be a ruin. ³⁴ Then the land shall enjoy its Sabbaths all the days of its lying desolate, and you shall be in the land of your enemies; then the land shall rest, and it shall enjoy its Sabbaths. ³⁵ All the days of its lying desolate it shall rest for the time* that it had not rested during your Sabbaths while you were living on it. ³⁶ As for* the ones who remain among you, I will bring* fearfulness in their hearts in the land of their enemies; and a sound of a windblown leaf shall pursue them, and they shall flee like flight _⌊before_⌋* a sword, and they shall fall, but* there shall not be a pursuer. ³⁷ And they shall stumble over _⌊one another_⌋* as _⌊from before_⌋* a sword, but* there shall not be a pursuer; and _⌊you shall have no resistance_⌋* _⌊before_⌋* your enemies. ³⁸ And you shall perish among the nations, and the land of your enemies shall eat you. ³⁹ And because of their guilt, the ones among you who remain shall decay in the land of their enemies; and also because of the iniquities of their ancestors,* they shall decay with them. ⁴⁰ " 'But* when they confess their guilt and the guilt of their ancestors* in their infidelity that they displayed against me, and moreover that they went against me in hostility— ⁴¹ I myself* also* went against them in hostility, and I brought them into the land of their enemies—or if then their uncircumcised heart is humbled and then they pay for their guilt, ⁴² I will remember* my covenant with Jacob; and I will remember also my covenant with Isaac and also my covenant with Abraham, and I will remember the land. ⁴³ And the land shall be deserted by them, and it shall enjoy its Sabbaths in its being desolate from them, and they themselves* must pay for their guilt, _⌊simply because_⌋* they rejected my regulations, and their inner self* abhorred my statutes. ⁴⁴ And _⌊in spite of_⌋* this, _⌊when they are_⌋* in the land of their enemies I will not reject them, and I will not abhor them to destroy them, to break my covenant with them, because I am Yahweh their God. ⁴⁵ And I will remember the first covenant for them*—whom I brought out from the land of Egypt _⌊in the sight of_⌋* the nations _⌊to be their God_⌋.* I am Yahweh.'" ⁴⁶ These are the rules and the regulations and the laws that Yahweh gave between himself and the _⌊Israelites_⌋* on _⌊Mount Sinai_⌋* _⌊through_⌋* Moses.

²⁶ And you must not bring a detestable thing into your house, or you will become a thing devoted to destruction like it; you must utterly detest it, and you must utterly abhor it, for it is an object devoted to destruction.

²⁸ and the curse, if you do not listen to the commandments of Yahweh your God, but rather you turn from the way that I am commanding you _⌊today_⌋* to go after other gods that you have not known.

² And all of these blessings shall come upon you, and _⌊they shall have an effect on you_⌋* if you listen to the voice of Yahweh your God: ³ "You will be blessed in the city, and you will be blessed in the field. ⁴ "Blessed will be the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground and the fruit of your livestock, _⌊the calf of your cattle and the lambs of your flock_⌋.* ⁵ "Blessed will be your basket and your kneading trough. ⁶ "Blessed will you be _⌊when you come in and blessed will you be when you go out_⌋.* ⁷ "Yahweh will cause your enemies _⌊who rise up against you to be defeated before you_⌋;* on one road* they shall come out against you, but on seven roads* they shall flee _⌊before you_⌋.* ⁸ Yahweh will command _⌊concerning you_⌋* the blessing to be in your barns and _⌊in all your endeavors_⌋;* and he will bless you in the land that Yahweh your God is giving to you. ⁹ Yahweh will establish you for _⌊himself_⌋* as a holy people as he has sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of Yahweh your God and you walk in his ways. ¹⁰ And all of the peoples of the earth shall see that _⌊by the name of Yahweh you are called_⌋,* and _⌊they shall fear you_⌋.* ¹¹ And _⌊Yahweh will make you successful and prosperous_⌋,* in the fruit of your womb and on the land that Yahweh swore to your ancestors* to give to you. ¹² Yahweh shall open for you his _⌊rich_⌋* storehouse, even the heavens, to give the rain for* your land in its time and to bless all of the work of your hand, and you will lend to many nations; you will not borrow from them. ¹³ And Yahweh shall make you* as head and not the tail, and you shall be only at the top of the nations, and you shall not be at the bottom, if you listen to the commandments of Yahweh your God that I am commanding you _⌊today_⌋* _⌊and diligently observe them_⌋.* ¹⁴ And you shall not turn aside from _⌊any of_⌋* the words that I am commanding you _⌊today_⌋* to the right or left by going after other gods to serve them. ¹⁵ "_⌊And then_⌋* if you do not listen to the voice of Yahweh your God _⌊by diligently observing_⌋* all of his commandments and his statutes that I am commanding you _⌊today_⌋,* then all of these curses shall come upon you, and they shall overtake you: ¹⁶ "You shall* be cursed in the city, and you shall be cursed in the field. ¹⁷ "Your basket shall be cursed and your kneading trough. ¹⁸ "The fruit of your womb shall be cursed and the fruit of you ground, the calves of your cattle and the lambs of your flock. ¹⁹ "You shall be cursed _⌊when you come in_⌋,* and you shall be cursed _⌊when you go out_⌋.* ²⁰ "Yahweh will send upon you* the curse,* the panic,* and the threat* _⌊in everything that you undertake_⌋,* _⌊until you are destroyed and until you perish quickly_⌋* _⌊because of_⌋* the evil of your deeds in that* you have forsaken me. ²¹ Yahweh will cause the plague to cling to you _⌊until it consumes you_⌋* from the land that you are going to,* to take possession of it. ²² Yahweh will afflict you with the wasting diseases and with the fever and with the inflammation and with the scorching heat and with the sword* and with the blight and with the mildew, and they shall pursue you _⌊until you perish_⌋.* ²³ And your heavens that are over your heads shall be like bronze, and the earth that is under you shall be like iron. ²⁴ Yahweh will change the rain of your land to fine dust and to sand; from the heaven it shall come down upon you _⌊until you are destroyed_⌋.* ²⁵ "Yahweh shall cause you to be defeated _⌊before_⌋* your enemies; on one road you shall go _⌊against_⌋* them,* but you will flee on seven roads _⌊before_⌋* them,* and you shall become a thing of horror to all of the kingdoms of the earth. ²⁶ And your dead bodies shall be as food for all of the birds of the heaven and to the animals of the earth, and there shall not be _⌊anyone to frighten them away_⌋.* ²⁷ "Yahweh shall afflict you with the boils of Egypt and with tumors and with the scurvy and with _⌊the skin rash that cannot be healed_⌋.* ²⁸ Yahweh shall afflict you with madness and with blindness and with confusion of heart. ²⁹ And you shall be groping at noon just as the blind person gropes in the dark, and you shall not succeed in finding your way, and you shall only be abused and robbed _⌊all the time_⌋,* and there will not be _⌊anyone who will rescue you_⌋. * ³⁰ You shall become engaged to a woman, but another man shall sleep* with her; you shall build a house, but you shall not live in it; a vineyard you shall plant, but you shall not enjoy it. ³¹ Your ox shall be slaughtered before your eyes, and you shall not eat it; your donkey shall be stolen right _⌊before you_⌋,* and it shall not be returned to you; your sheep and your goats shall be given to your enemies, and _⌊there shall not be anyone who rescues you_⌋.* ³² Your sons and your daughters shall be given to other people, and _⌊you will be looking on_⌋* _⌊longingly_⌋* for* them all day, _⌊but you will be powerless to do anything_⌋.* ³³ A people that you do not know shall consume the harvest of your land and all your labor, and you will be only oppressed and crushed _⌊for the rest of your lives_⌋.* ³⁴ You shall become mad _⌊because of what your eyes shall see_⌋.* ³⁵ Yahweh shall strike you with grievous boils on the knees and on the upper thighs from which _⌊you will not be able to be healed_⌋,* from the sole of your foot and up to your crown. ³⁶ Yahweh will bring you and your king whom you set up over you to a nation that you or your ancestors* have not known, and there you will serve other gods of wood and stone. ³⁷ And you will become a horror and a proverb and ridicule among all the peoples where Yahweh drives you there. ³⁸ "You shall carry out much seed to the field, but you shall gather little produce, for the locust shall devour it. ³⁹ You shall plant vineyards and you shall dress* them, but you shall not drink wine and you shall not gather grapes, for the worm shall eat it.* ⁴⁰ There shall be olive trees for you in all of your territory, but you shall not anoint yourself, for your olives* shall drop off. ⁴¹ You shall bear sons and daughters, but they shall not be _⌊yours_⌋,* for they shall go into captivity. ⁴² The cricket shall take possession of all your trees and the fruit of your ground. ⁴³ The alien that is in your midst shall ascend over you, higher and higher, but you shall go down lower and lower. ⁴⁴ He shall lend to you, but you shall not lend to him; he shall be the head, but you shall be the tail. ⁴⁵ "And all of these curses shall come over you, and they shall pursue you, and they shall overtake you _⌊until you are destroyed_⌋,* because _⌊you did not listen_⌋* to the voice of Yahweh your God, _⌊by observing_⌋* his commandments and his statutes that he commanded you. ⁴⁶ And they shall be among you as a sign and as a wonder and among your offspring _⌊forever_⌋.* ⁴⁷ "_⌊Because_⌋* of the fact that you did not serve Yahweh your God with joy and with gladness of heart for the abundance of everything, ⁴⁸ then you shall serve your enemies, whom Yahweh will send against you under conditions of famine, in thirst, in nakedness, and in a lack of everything; and he shall place* a yoke of iron on your neck _⌊until he has destroyed you_⌋.* ⁴⁹ Yahweh will raise up against you a nation from far off, from the end of the earth, attacking as the eagle swoops down, _⌊a nation whose language you will not understand_⌋,* ⁵⁰ _⌊a grim-faced nation_⌋* _⌊who does not show respect_⌋* to the old and the young and does not show pity. ⁵¹ And it* shall consume the fruit of your livestock and the fruit of your ground _⌊until you are destroyed_⌋,* and who will not leave for you any grain, wine, and olive oil, _⌊calves of your herds_⌋,* and _⌊lambs of_⌋* your flock _⌊until it has destroyed you_⌋.* ⁵² And it shall besiege you in all your towns _⌊until your high and fortified walls fall_⌋,* which you are trusting in* _⌊throughout your land_⌋;* and it shall besiege you in all of your towns in all of your land that Yahweh your God has given to you. ⁵³ And you shall eat the fruit of your womb, the flesh of your sons and your daughters, whom Yahweh your God gave to you, _⌊during the siege and during the distress_⌋* your enemy inflicts upon you. ⁵⁴ The most refined and the very sensitive* man among you _⌊shall be mean with his brother_⌋* and _⌊against his beloved wife_⌋* and against the rest* of his children that he has left over, ⁵⁵ _⌊by refraining from giving_⌋* to even one of them any of the meat of his children that he eats, because there is not anything that is left over for him _⌊during the siege and distress_⌋* that your enemy inflicts upon you. ⁵⁶ The most refined and the most delicate woman among you, who shall* not venture to put the sole of her foot on the ground from being so delicate and from such gentleness, _⌊shall be mean to her beloved husband_⌋* and against her son and against her daughter, ⁵⁷ and even concerning her afterbirth _⌊that goes out_⌋* from between her feet and also concerning her children that she bears, because she eats them for lack of anything in secret _⌊during the siege and during the distress_⌋* that your enemy inflicts upon her in your _⌊towns_⌋.* ⁵⁸ "If _⌊you do not diligently observe_⌋* all the words of this law written in this scroll by revering this glorious and awesome name, Yahweh your God, ⁵⁹ then Yahweh shall overwhelm you with your plagues and the plagues of your offspring, severe plagues and lasting illnesses, grievous and enduring. ⁶⁰ And he shall bring back upon you all the diseases of Egypt concerning which _⌊you were in dread_⌋* _⌊because of them_⌋.* ⁶¹ Also any illness and any plague* that is not written in the scroll of this law, he shall bring them, Yahweh, upon you until you are destroyed. ⁶² And you shall remain _⌊only a few people_⌋* in place of the fact you were formerly as the stars of heaven as far as number is concerned, because you did not listen to the voice of Yahweh your God. ⁶³ _⌊And then_⌋* as Yahweh delighted over you _⌊to make you prosperous_⌋* to make you numerous, so Yahweh shall delight over you to exterminate you* and to destroy you, and so you shall be plucked from the land that you are going there to take possession of it. ⁶⁴ And Yahweh shall scatter you among all the nations from one end of the earth up to the other end of the earth, and there you shall serve other gods that you have not known nor* your ancestors,* gods of wood and stone. ⁶⁵ And among these nations you shall not find rest, and there shall not be a resting place for the sole of your foot, and Yahweh shall give you there an anxious heart and a weakening of eyes* and a languishing of your inner self.* ⁶⁶ And _⌊your life shall hang in doubt before you_⌋,* and you shall be startled* night and day, and you shall not be confident of your life. ⁶⁷ In the morning you shall say, '_⌊If only it was evening_⌋!'* and in the evening you shall say '_⌊If only it was morning_⌋!'* because of the dread of your heart that you shall feel, and because of the sight of your eyes that you shall see. ⁶⁸ And Yahweh shall bring you back to Egypt in ships by the route that I _⌊promised_⌋* to you that '_⌊You shall not see it again_⌋!'* And you shall sell yourself there to your enemies as slaves and as female slaves, but there will not be a buyer."

¹⁹ And then when he hears the words of this oath, then* _⌊he will assure himself_⌋* in his heart, _⌊saying_⌋,* '_⌊Safety shall be mine even though I go in the stubbornness of my heart_⌋,'* thereby destroying the well-watered land along with the parched.* ²⁰ Yahweh will not be willing to forgive him, for by then the anger of Yahweh will smoke, and his passion against that man and all the curses written in this scroll will descend on him, and Yahweh will blot out his name from under heaven. ²¹ And Yahweh will single him out for calamity out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant written in the scroll of this law. ²² "And the next generation, that is, your children who will rise up after you, and the foreigner who will come from a distant land, when* they will see the plagues of that land and its diseases that Yahweh has inflicted upon it, will say, ²³ 'All its land is brimstone and salt left by fire, _⌊none of its land will be sown_⌋,* and it will not make plants sprout out and it will not grow any vegetation; it is as the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, Adman and Zeboiim, which Yahweh overturned in his anger and in his wrath.' ²⁴ And all the nations will say, '_⌊Why_⌋* has Yahweh done _⌊such a thing_⌋* to this land? What caused the fierceness of this great anger?' ²⁵ And they will say,* 'It is because they abandoned the covenant of Yahweh, the God of their ancestors,* which he _⌊made_⌋* with them _⌊when he brought them out_⌋* from the land of Egypt. ²⁶ And they went and served other gods and bowed down to them, gods whom they did not know them and he* had not allotted to them. ²⁷ So _⌊the anger of Yahweh was kindled_⌋* against that land to bring upon it all the curses written in this scroll, ²⁸ and Yahweh uprooted them from their land in anger and in wrath and in great fury, and he cast them into another land, _⌊just as it is today_⌋.'* ²⁹ "The hidden things _⌊belong to Yahweh_⌋* our God, but the revealed things _⌊belong to us_⌋* to know and to our children _⌊forever_⌋,* in order to do all the words of this law."

¹⁸ As for you, keep away from the things* devoted to destruction so that you do not take them and bring about your own destruction, making the camp of Israel an object for destruction, bringing trouble upon it.

¹³ Get up, sanctify the people, and say, 'Sanctify yourselves for tomorrow. Thus says Yahweh the God of Israel: "There are devoted things* in your midst, O Israel. You will be unable to stand before you enemies until you remove the devoted things* from your midst."

¹¹ So the ark of Yahweh remained in the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite for three months, and Yahweh blessed Obed-Edom and all his household.

⁶ If you are pure and upright, indeed,* now he will rouse himself for you, and he will restore your righteous abode. ⁷ Though* your beginning was small, your end* will be very great.

³ And so, he is like a tree planted by streams of water that gives its fruit in its season; its leaf also does not wither. Therefore all that he does prospers.

²² For those blessed by him shall possess the land, but those cursed by him shall be cut off.

¹⁰ No harm will befall you, and no plague will come near your tent.

¹² The righteous observes the house of the wicked; he throws the wicked to ruin.

³ And he said to me, "This is the curse going out over the surface of the whole earth. For everyone who steals has gone unpunished* according to it, and likewise everyone who swears falsely has gone unpunished according to it. ⁴ 'I have sent it out,' _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh of hosts, 'and it will go into the house of the thief and into the house of the one swearing _⌊falsely by my name_⌋,* and it will spend the night in that* house and will destroy it, with its timber and its stone.'"

² If you will not listen, and if you will not _⌊take it to heart_⌋* to give glory to my name," says Yahweh of hosts, "then I will send the curse on you, and I will curse your blessings; moreover I have already cursed them because _⌊you are not taking it to heart_⌋.*

⁶ Though Yahweh is high, yet he sees the lowly, but the proud he perceives* at a distance.

⁷ He who corrects a scoffer gains abuse for himself, and he who rebukes the wicked _⌊gets hurt_⌋.* ⁸ Do not rebuke a scoffer, lest he hate you; rebuke the wise and he will love you.

¹² If you are wise, you are wise for yourself, and if you scoff, alone you shall bear it.

²⁹ Judgments* are prepared for the scoffers, and flogging for the back of fools.

²⁴ The proud, haughty one: "scoffer" is his name; he acts with arrogance of pride.

¹⁵ For thus says the high and lofty one who resides forever, and whose name is holy:
"I reside in a high and holy place, and with the _⌊contrite_⌋* and humble of spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the _⌊contrite_⌋.*

⁶ But he gives greater grace. Therefore it says,
"God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble."*

⁵ In the same way, younger men, be subject to the elders, and all of you clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.

³⁰ Therefore,' _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh the God of Israel, 'though I solemnly said that your house and the house of your ancestor* would walk before me forever, but now,' _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, 'far be it from me, for those who honor me I will honor, but those who despise me, I will treat with contempt!

²⁴ You will guide me with your advice, and afterward you will take me into honor.*

¹⁸ I will clothe his enemies with shame, but on him his crown will flourish."*

⁸ Cherish her and she will exalt you; she will honor you if you embrace her.

⁸ The ransom of the life of a man is his wealth, but the poor does not receive a threat.

¹³ Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh:
"Look! My servants shall eat but* you, you shall be hungry. Look! My servants shall drink but* you, you shall be thirsty. Look! My servants shall rejoice but* you, you shall be ashamed. ¹⁴ Look! My servants shall shout _⌊for joy_⌋,* but* you, you shall cry out _⌊for pain_⌋* and howl _⌊for sadness_⌋.* ¹⁵ And you shall leave your name to my chosen ones as a curse, and the Lord Yahweh will kill you, and he will _⌊give_⌋* his servants another name.

² And many from those sleeping _⌊in the dusty ground_⌋* will awake, some to _⌊everlasting life_⌋* and some to disgrace and _⌊everlasting contempt_⌋.* ³ But the ones having insight will shine like the brightness of the expanse, and the ones providing justice for the many* will be like the stars _⌊forever and ever_⌋.*
