¹ And Balaam saw that _⌊it pleased_⌋* Yahweh to bless Israel, and he did not go _⌊as other times_⌋* _⌊to seek out_⌋* sorcery; instead, he set his face toward the desert. ² Balaam lift up his eyes, and he saw Israel dwelling according to its tribes, and the spirit of God was upon it.* ³ He _⌊uttered_⌋* his oracle and said,
"The declaration of Balaam son Beor, the declaration of the man whose eyes are closed, ⁴ the declaration of the hearer of God's words,* who sees the revelation of Shaddai,* falling down but whose eyes are uncovered. ⁵ How good are your tents, O Jacob, your dwellings, O Israel! ⁶ They are spread out like valleys, like gardens on a river, like aloes planted by Yahweh, like cedars at the waters. ⁷ He will pour water from his buckets, and his offspring will be like many waters; his king will be higher than Agag, and his kingdom will be exalted. ⁸ God, who brings him out from Egypt, is like the strength* of a wild ox for him. He will devour the nations who are his enemies; he will break their bones; he will pierce them with his arrows. ⁹ He crouches, he lies down like a lion, and like a lioness, who will rouse him? They who bless you will be blessed, and they who curse you will be cursed." ¹⁰ Then _⌊Balak became angry with_⌋* Balaam, and he clapped his hands and said to Balaam, "I called you to curse my enemies, but look, you have surely blessed them these three times. ¹¹ _⌊Flee_⌋* to your place now. I said I would richly honor you, but look, Yahweh has withheld honor from you." ¹² Balaam said to Balak, "Did I not speak to your messengers whom you sent to me, saying, ¹³ 'If Balak gave to me the fullness of his house full of silver and gold, I am not able to go beyond _⌊the command of Yahweh_⌋* to do good or evil, from my heart; what Yahweh speaks, I will speak'?* ¹⁴ And now, look, I am about to go to my people; I will advise you what this people will do to your people _⌊in the following days_⌋."* ¹⁵ And he _⌊uttered_⌋* his oracle and said,
"The declaration of Balaam son of Beor, and the declaration of the man whose eye is closed, ¹⁶ the declaration of the hearer of God's words,* and the knower of the knowledge of the Most High, who sees the vision of Shaddai,* who is falling, and his eyes are revealed. ¹⁷ I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near; a star will go out from Jacob, and a scepter will rise from Israel; it will crush the foreheads of Moab and destroy all the children of Seth. ¹⁸ Edom will be a captive; Seir, its enemies, will be a captive, and Israel will be acting _⌊courageously_⌋.* ¹⁹ Someone* from Jacob will rule and will destroy a remnant* from the city." ²⁰ And he looked at Amalek, _⌊uttered_⌋* his oracle, and said, "Amalek is first* of the nations, but his future will be forever ruin." ²¹ And he looked at the Kenites,* _⌊uttered_⌋* his oracle, and said,
"Steady is your dwelling place; in the rock is your nest. ²² Nevertheless, the Kenite will be burned; how long will Asshur keep* you captive?" ²³ Again he _⌊uttered_⌋* his oracle and said,
"Woe, who will live when God establishes this?* ²⁴ The ships will come from the hand of the Kittim, and they will afflict Asshur and will afflict Eber; also he will be forever ruin." ²⁵ Then Balaam got up and went and returned to his place, and Balak also went on his way.

¹³ Balaam got up in the morning, and he said to the princes of Balak, "Go to your land, because Yahweh refused to allow me to go with you."

³ And Balaam said to Balak, "Station yourself at your burnt offering, and I will go; perhaps Yahweh will come to meet me, and whatever he shows me I will tell to you." So he went to a barren height.

¹⁵ Balaam* said to Balak, "Station yourself here at the burnt offering while I myself meet with Yahweh there."

²⁰ Behold, I have received a command to bless; when he has blessed, I cannot cause it to return.

²³ Because there is no sorcery against Jacob, and there is no divination against Israel. Now* it will be said to Jacob and Israel, what God has done!

²⁸ So Balak took Balaam to the top of Peor, which looks down on the face of the Jeshimon.*

¹⁶ Behold, these women _⌊caused_⌋* the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* by the word of Balaam, to be in apostasy against Yahweh in the matter of Peor, so that the plague was among the community of Yahweh.

²⁰ So now then, look, I know that you will certainly be king and the kingdom of Israel will be established in your hand.

² Then Saul got up and went down to the wilderness of Ziph, and three thousand chosen men of Israel with him, to seek David in the wilderness of Ziph.

²⁵ Then Saul said to David, "Blessed are you, my son David; _⌊you will not only do many things, but also will always succeed_⌋!"* Then David went on his way and Saul returned to his place.

¹⁴ But I have a few things against you: that you have there those who hold fast to the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the sons of Israel, to eat food sacrificed to idols and to commit sexual immorality.

² "The _⌊Israelites_⌋* will encamp each with his standard, with a banner according to _⌊their families_⌋;* they will encamp around the tent of assembly. ³ The ones who encamp on the eastern side, toward the sunrise, will be of the standard of the camp of Judah according to their divisions; and the leader of the descendants of Judah will be Nahshon son of Amminadab, ⁴ and his division and _⌊the ones counted_⌋* are seventy-four thousand six hundred. ⁵ And the ones who encamp next to him will be the tribe of Issachar. And the leader of the descendants of Issachar will be Nethanel son of Zuar, ⁶ and his division are fifty-four thousand four hundred. ⁷ For the tribe of Zebulun: the leader of the descendants of Zebulun will be Eliab son of Helon, ⁸ and his division and the _⌊ones counted_⌋* are fifty-seven thousand four hundred. ⁹ All those counted from the camp of Judah are one hundred and eighty-six thousand four hundred. They will set out first according to their divisions. ¹⁰ "The standard of the camp of Reuben will be to the south according to their divisions. They encamped according to their standards, and they* set out each one according to their clans* among _⌊their families_⌋.*

²⁵ Then Yahweh went down in the cloud and spoke to him, and he took away the spirit that was on him, and he _⌊put it_⌋* on the seventy elders. And as soon as the spirit was resting on them they prophesied, but they did not do it again. ²⁶ But two men were left in the camp; the name of one was Eldad, and the name of the second was Medad, and the spirit rested on them; they were among those who were written down, but they did not go out to the tent, so they prophesied in the camp. ²⁷ So a boy* ran and told Moses and said, "Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp." ²⁸ And Joshua son of Nun, the assistant of Moses from time of his youth, answered, "Moses, my lord, stop them." ²⁹ But Moses said to him, "Are you jealous for my sake? Would that he* give all Yahweh's people prophets, that Yahweh put his spirit on them!"

⁹ Because from the top of the rocks I see him, from hilltops I watch him. Behold, a people who dwell alone, they do not consider themselves among the nations. ¹⁰ Who can count the dust of Jacob, or as a number the fourth part of Israel? Let my life die the death of an upright person, and let my end be like his!"

⁵ How good are your tents, O Jacob, your dwellings, O Israel!

¹⁰ When they went from there to Gibeah, a procession of prophets met him, and the Spirit of God rushed upon him,* and he prophesied among them.

²⁰ So Saul sent messengers to capture David. When they saw the company of the prophets prophesying and Samuel standing as chief over them, then the Spirit of God came upon Saul's messengers, and they also prophesied.

²³ So he went there to Naioth in Ramah and the Spirit of God came upon him also, and _⌊he walked along prophesying_⌋* until he came to Naioth in Ramah.

¹ Now Azariah the son of Oded—the Spirit of God came upon him.

⁴ You are beautiful, my beloved, as Tirzah, lovely as Jerusalem, _⌊overwhelming as an army with banners_⌋.*

¹⁰ "Who is this that looks down like the dawn, beautiful as the moon, _⌊bright as the sun_⌋,** _⌊overwhelming as an army with banners_⌋?"*

²² On that day many will say to me, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and expel demons in your name, and perform many miracles in your name?'

⁴ Simon the Zealot,* and Judas Iscariot—the one who also betrayed him.

⁸ Heal those who are sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, expel demons. Freely you have received; freely give.

²⁰ Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are inscribed in heaven."

⁴⁹ But a certain one of them, Caiaphas (who was high priest in that year), said to them, "You do not know anything at all! ⁵⁰ Nor do you consider that it is profitable for you that one man should die for the people, and the whole nation not perish." ⁵¹ (Now he did not say this from himself, but being high priest in that year, he prophesied that Jesus was going to die for the nation,

³¹ Then Yahweh exposed the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of Yahweh standing in the road with his sword drawn in his hand, and he bowed down and worshiped to his face.

⁷ And he lifted up his oracle and said,
"From Aram Balak lead me, from the mountains of the east the king of Moab, 'Go for me, curse Jacob, and go, denounce Israel.'

¹⁸ Then _⌊he uttered_⌋* his oracle, and said,
"Stand up, Balak, and hear; listen to me, son of Zippor!

⁴ the declaration of the hearer of God's words,* who sees the revelation of Shaddai,* falling down but whose eyes are uncovered.

¹⁶ the declaration of the hearer of God's words,* and the knower of the knowledge of the Most High, who sees the vision of Shaddai,* who is falling, and his eyes are revealed.

¹ After these things the word of Yahweh came* to Abram in a vision, saying: "Do not be afraid, Abram; I am your shield, and your reward shall be very great."

¹² And it happened, as the sun _⌊went down_⌋,* then a deep sleep fell upon Abram and, behold, a great terrifying darkness fell upon him.

⁶ and he said,
"Please hear my words: If there is a prophet among you, I, Yahweh, will make myself known to him in a vision. I will speak to him in a dream.*

²⁰ And God came to Balaam at night, and he said to him, "If the men have come to call you, get up and go with them; but only the word that I will speak to you, you will do."

²⁴ He also stripped off his clothes and prophesied before Samuel. He lay naked all that day and all night. Therefore they say, "Is Saul also among the prophets?"

¹⁹ Formerly you spoke in a vision to your faithful ones, and said, "I have bestowed help on a mighty man; I have exalted one chosen from the people.

²⁸ Like the appearance* of a bow that is in the cloud on _⌊a rainy day_⌋,* such was the radiance* around it; thus was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of Yahweh. And I saw, and I fell on my face, and I heard a voice speaking.

¹⁷ And he came beside _⌊where I was standing_⌋,* and _⌊when he came_⌋* I became terrified and I fell prostrate on my face. And he said to me, "Understand, son of man,* that the vision is for the time of the end." ¹⁸ And _⌊when he spoke_⌋* with me I fell into a trance with my face to the ground, and he touched me and made me stand on by feet.

²⁶ And the vision of the evening and the morning that has been _⌊described_⌋,* it is true; and you, seal up the vision, for _⌊it refers to many days to come_⌋."* ²⁷ And I, Daniel, was overcome, and I became ill for some days, and I _⌊performed_⌋* the business of the king, and I was dismayed over the vision and _⌊I did not understand it_⌋.*

¹⁵ And while he was speaking with me according to these words, I turned my face toward the ground and I was speechless. ¹⁶ Then look, there was _⌊one in the form of a human_⌋;* he touched my lips and I opened my mouth and I spoke and I said to the one standing _⌊before me_⌋,* "My lord, because of the vision my anxieties fell upon me and I have not retained my strength.

¹⁰ And he became hungry and wanted to eat. But while* they were preparing the food,* a trance came over him.

¹⁹ And while* Peter was reflecting about the vision, the Spirit said to him, "Behold, men* are looking for you.

¹⁷ "And it happened that when* I returned to Jerusalem and I was praying in the temple courts,* I was in a trance,

¹ It is necessary to boast; it is not profitable, but I will proceed to visions and revelations of the Lord. ² I know a man in Christ fourteen years ago—whether in the body I do not know, or outside the body I do not know, God knows—such a man was caught up to the third heaven, ³ and I know this man—whether in the body or apart from the body I do not know, God knows— ⁴ that he was caught up to paradise and heard words not to be spoken, which it is not permitted for a person to speak.

¹⁰ I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and I heard behind me a great sound like a trumpet

¹⁷ And when I saw him, I fell at his feet like a dead person, and he placed his right hand on me, saying, "Do not be afraid! I am the first and the last,

⁸ And Yahweh God planted a garden in Eden in the east, and there he put the man* whom he had formed. ⁹ And Yahweh God caused to grow every tree that was pleasing to the sight and good for food. And the tree of life was in the midst of the garden, _⌊along with_⌋* the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. ¹⁰ Now* a river flowed out from Eden that watered the garden, and from there it diverged and became four branches.

¹⁰ And Lot lifted up his eyes and saw the whole plain of the Jordan, that all of it was well-watered land—this was before Yahweh destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah—like the garden of Yahweh, like the land of Egypt _⌊in the direction of_⌋* Zoar.

³ And so, he is like a tree planted by streams of water that gives its fruit in its season; its leaf also does not wither. Therefore all that he does prospers.

⁸ All your robes are scented with myrrh and aloes and cassia. From palaces of ivory stringed instruments gladden you.

¹² The righteous* will flourish like the date palm. They will grow like a cedar in Lebanon. ¹³ Planted in the house* of Yahweh, they will flourish in the courts of our God. ¹⁴ They will still prosper in old age. They will be fat and luxuriant,*

¹⁶ The trees of Yahweh drink their fill, the cedars of Lebanon that he planted,

¹² A garden locked is my sister bride, a spring enclosed,* a fountain sealed. ¹³ Your shoots* are an orchard of pomegranates with _⌊choice fruit_⌋,* henna with nard; ¹⁴ nard and saffron, calamus and cinnamon spice with all trees of frankincense, myrrh and aloes with all chief spices. ¹⁵ A garden fountain, a well of living water, flowing (streams) from Lebanon.

¹¹ I went down to the orchard of the walnut trees to look at the blossoms of the valley, to see whether the vines have sprouted, whether the pomegranates have blossomed.

¹⁹ I will _⌊put_⌋* the cedar, acacia, myrtle, and olive oil tree in the wilderness; I will set the cypress, elm, and box tree together in the desert

¹¹ And Yahweh will lead you continually, and satisfy your soul in a barren land, and he will strengthen your bones, and you shall be like a well-watered garden, and like a spring of water whose water does not fail.

¹⁸ Let my persecutors be put to shame, _⌊but as for me_⌋,* do not let me be put to shame. Let them be dismayed, _⌊but as for me_⌋,* do not let me be dismayed. Bring on them the day of disaster, and with double destruction, destroy them.

¹² And they will come, and they will sing for joy on the height of Zion, and they will be radiant over the goodness of Yahweh, over the grain, and over the wine, and over the olive oil, and over the young ones of the flock, and over the cattle. And their life will become like a well-watered garden, and they will never languish again."

³ Look! Assyria was a cedar in Lebanon, with beautiful branches* and a forest giving shade, and _⌊very high_⌋,* and its treetop was between the clouds. ⁴ Waters made it great, the deep made it grow high; its rivers were going all around _⌊its planting area_⌋,* and its channels it sent out to all of the trees of the field.

¹² And along the stream will go up on its banks _⌊from both sides_⌋* every tree _⌊producing food_⌋;* its leaf will not wither and it will not cease producing its fruit. _⌊Every month_⌋* it will bear early fruit, for its waters are going out from the sanctuary, and its fruit will be as food, and its leaf for healing."

¹⁸ And it will happen on that day; the mountains will drip new wine, and the hills will flow with milk, and all the channels of Judah will flow with water. A spring from the house of Yahweh will come forth, and it will water the valley of Acacia Trees.*

⁸ He captured Agag the king of Amalek alive, but all the people he utterly destroyed with the _⌊edge_⌋* of the sword. ⁹ However, Saul and the army spared Agag and the best of the sheep and the cattle and the second best of the young fatlings and _⌊all that was valuable_⌋;* they were not willing to utterly destroy them. But all the possessions that were despised or worthless, they utterly destroyed.

³² Then Samuel said, "Bring Agag the king of Amalek out to me!" Agag came to him confidently,* for Agag thought, "Surely the bitterness of death _⌊is over_⌋."* ³³ Samuel said,
"Just as your sword bereaved women, so will your mother be bereaved among women!"
Then Samuel hacked Agag to pieces in the presence of Yahweh at Gilgal.

¹² David realized that Yahweh had established him as king over Israel and that he had exalted his kingdom because of his people Israel.

²¹ * Now Solomon was ruling over all the kingdoms from the River* to the land of the Philistines, and up to the border of Egypt, who were bringing tribute and were serving Solomon all the days of his life.

² And David knew that Yahweh had established him as king over Israel and that his kingdom was highly exalted for the sake of his people Israel.

²⁰ Mighty kings have ruled over Jerusalem, governing all the province Beyond the River, to whom tribute, duty, and tax has been given.

⁶ "But as for me, I have set my king on Zion, my holy mountain." ⁷ I will tell the decree; Yahweh said to me: "You are my son; today I have begotten you. ⁸ Ask from me and I will make the nations your heritage, and your possession the ends of the earth. ⁹ You will break them with an iron rod. Like a potter's vessel you will shatter them." ¹⁰ So then, O kings, be wise. Be warned, O rulers of the earth.

⁴³ You rescued me from strife with people; you set me as head (over) nations. People I did not know served me;

²⁶ Bless God in the assemblies, Yahweh from the fountain of Israel.

³ The rivers have lifted up, O Yahweh; the rivers have lifted up their _⌊rumbling_⌋;* the rivers have lifted up their pounding. ⁴ Mightier than the rumblings of many waters, mightier than the mighty breakers of the sea, Yahweh on high is mighty.

¹¹ They will speak of the glory of your kingdom, and talk of your power, ¹² to make known to the children of humankind his mighty deeds, and the glory of the majesty of his kingdom. ¹³ Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures _⌊throughout all generations_⌋.*

¹⁶ Shall your springs be scattered outward? In the streets, shall there be streams of water? ¹⁷ May they be yours alone, and not for strangers who are with you. ¹⁸ May your fountain be blessed, and rejoice in the wife* of your youth.

² And it shall happen in the future of the days the mountain of the house* of Yahweh shall be established; it will be among the highest* of the mountains, and it shall be raised from the hills. All of the nations shall travel to him;

⁷ _⌊His dominion will grow continually, and to peace there will be no end_⌋* on* the throne of David and over* his kingdom, to establish it* and sustain it with justice and righteousness now and forever. The zeal of Yahweh of hosts will do this.

¹ Hear this, house of Jacob, who are called by the name of Israel and came out from the waters of Judah, who swear by the name of Yahweh, and _⌊invoke_⌋* the God of Israel, but not in truth and not in righteousness.

¹³ O you who live by mighty waters, rich in treasures, your end has come, _⌊the measure of your life_⌋.*

⁴⁴ And _⌊in the day of those kings_⌋,* the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will _⌊never_⌋* be destroyed, and the kingdom will not be left for another nation,* and it will bring an end to all these kingdoms, but it will stand _⌊forever_⌋.*

⁴⁹ Nathanael answered him, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the king of Israel!"

¹⁰ so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven and of those on earth and of those under the earth, ¹¹ and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

¹⁵ And the seventh angel blew the trumpet, and there was a loud voice in heaven saying,
"The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he will reign _⌊forever and ever_⌋*."

¹ And one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and spoke with me, saying, "Come, I will show you the judgment of the great prostitute who is seated on many waters,

⁵ The people spoke against God and against Moses, "Why have you brought us from Egypt to die in the desert? There is no food and no water, and our hearts detest this miserable food."

²² God, who brings them out from Egypt, is like the strength* of a wild ox for them.*

²⁴ Look! the people will rise like the lion; he raises himself and will not lie down until he eats the prey and drinks the blood of the slain."

¹ "When Yahweh your God brings you into the land that you are about to enter _⌊into it_⌋* to take possession of it, and he drives* out many nations _⌊before you_⌋,* the Hittites* and the Girgashites* and the Amorites* and the Canaanites* and the Hivites* and the Jebusites,* seven nations mightier and more numerous than you,

²³ I will heap disasters upon them; my arrows I will spend on them.

⁴² I will make my arrows drunk with blood, and my sword shall devour flesh with the blood of the slain, and captives* from the heads* of the leaders of the enemy.'

⁹ You will break them with an iron rod. Like a potter's vessel you will shatter them."

¹² For you will _⌊turn them to flight_⌋;* you will aim arrows on your bowstrings at their faces.

⁵ Your arrows are sharp; peoples fall under you in the midst of the king's enemies.

¹³ I lie down* until morning; like a lion, so he breaks all my bones; from day to night you bring me to an end.

⁹ For look, I am going to stir up, and I am going to bring against Babylon a contingent of great nations from the land of the north. And they will draw up a battle formation against her, from there she will be captured. Their arrows are like a warrior who has achieved success, he does not return without success.

²⁴ The king then commanded, and these men were brought _⌊who had accused Daniel_⌋,* and they threw them and their children and their wives into _⌊the lion pit_⌋,* and they had not reached the floor of the pit _⌊before_⌋* the lions had overpowered them and they had crushed all of their bones.

³ And I will bless those who bless you, and those who curse you I will curse. And all families of the earth will be blessed in you."

²⁹ Let peoples serve you, and nations bow down to you; Be lord of your brothers, and may the sons of your mother bow down to you. Cursed be those cursing you, and blessed be those blessing you."

⁹ Judah is a lion's cub. From the prey, my son, you have gone up. He bowed down; he crouched like a lion and as a lioness. Who shall rouse him?

³⁹ "Can you hunt prey for the lion? And can you satisfy the hunger of strong lions ⁴⁰ when they are crouched in the dens, when they lie in the thicket in an ambush?

¹⁰ Is it not fierce when somebody stirs it? Who then is he who would stand _⌊before it_⌋?*

¹² Kiss the Son lest he be angry and you perish on the way, for his anger burns quickly. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.

⁶ Pray* for the peace of Jerusalem: "May those who love you be at ease.

⁴⁰ And the king will answer and* say to them, 'Truly I say to you, in as much as you did it* to one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did it* to me.'

⁴⁵ Then he will answer them, saying, 'Truly I say to you, in as much as you did not do it* to one of the least of these, you did not do it* to me.'

⁵ So he said, "Who are you, Lord?" And he said, "I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting!

⁶ Now, please go, curse this people for me because they* are stronger than me; perhaps I will be able to strike them* and drive them* out from the land because I know whoever you bless is blessed, and whoever you cursed is cursed."

¹¹ 'Look! A people went out from Egypt. Look! They cover _⌊the surface of the land_⌋.* Now, go, curse them* for me. Perhaps I will be able to attack them* and drive them* out."

¹⁷ because I will surely honor you greatly, and all that you say to me I will do. Please, come; curse this people for me.'"

¹¹ And Balak said to Balaam, "What have you done to me? I took you to curse my enemies, and look, you have surely blessed them!"

⁴ _⌊because_⌋* they did not come to meet you with food and with water _⌊when you came out of Egypt_⌋,* and also _⌊because_⌋* they* hired Balaam, son of Beor, from Pethor, in Aram Naharaim* to act against you to curse you. ⁵ But Yahweh your God was not willing to listen to Balaam, and Yahweh your God turned the curse into a blessing for you, because Yahweh your God loved you.

⁹ Then Balak son of Zippor, king of Moab, set out and fought against Israel, and he sent and summoned Balaam son of Beor to curse you, ¹⁰ but I was not willing to listen to Balaam, and he richly blessed you. So I rescued you from his hand,

² because they did not come to meet the _⌊Israelites_⌋* with bread and water, but hired Balaam against them in order to curse them—but our God changed the curse into a blessing.

²³ It claps its hands over him, and it hisses at him from its place.

¹⁴ And you, son of man,* prophesy _⌊and clap your hands_⌋.* And the sword will _⌊strike twice_⌋;* let it happen a third time. It is a sword of the dead, the sword of the great dead that is surrounding them,

¹⁷ And also _⌊I myself_⌋* will _⌊clap my hands_⌋,* and I will satisfy my rage! I, Yahweh, I have spoken."

¹³ And look! I strike my hand for your ill-gotten gain that you have made and at your blood that was in the midst of you.

³⁷ And Balak said to Balaam, "Did I not urgently send to meet with you? Why did you not come to me? Am I really not able to honor you?"

²⁸ And Jesus said to them, "Truly I say to you that in the renewal of the world,* when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me—you also will sit on twelve thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel. ²⁹ And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife* or children or fields on account of my name will receive a hundred times as much, and will inherit eternal life. ³⁰ But many who are first will be last, and the last first.

²⁰ But Peter said to him, "May your silver _⌊be destroyed along with you_⌋,* because you thought _⌊you could acquire_⌋* the gift of God by means of money!

⁸ _⌊More than that_⌋*, I even consider all things to be loss because of the surpassing greatness of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for the sake of whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and consider them* dung, in order that I may gain Christ

²⁴ By faith Moses, when he* was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter, ²⁵ choosing instead to be mistreated with the people of God rather than to experience the transitory enjoyment of sin, ²⁶ considering _⌊reproach endured for the sake of Christ_⌋* greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward.

² shepherd the flock of God among you, exercising oversight not by compulsion but willingly, in accordance with God, and not greedily but eagerly, ³ and not as lording it over _⌊those under your care_⌋*, but being examples for the flock.

⁸ Watch yourselves that you do not lose what we have worked for, but receive a full reward.

¹⁸ Balaam answered and said to the servants of Balak, "Even though Balak gives to me his house full of silver and gold, I am not able to go beyond _⌊the command of Yahweh_⌋* my God to do a little or a lot.

³⁸ Balaam said to Balak, "Look, I came to you now. Am I really able to speak anything at all? I speak the word that God puts in my mouth."

²⁸ And Moses said, "In this you will know that Yahweh has sent me to do all these works; it is not from my heart.

¹ Then Jacob called his sons and said, "Gather together so that I can tell you what will happen with you in _⌊days to come_⌋.*

¹⁷ I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near; a star will go out from Jacob, and a scepter will rise from Israel; it will crush the foreheads of Moab and destroy all the children of Seth.

⁷ And they fought against Midian just as Yahweh commanded Moses, and they killed every male. ⁸ They killed the kings of Midian in addition to the ones they had slain: Evi and Rekem and Zur and Hur and Reba, the five kings of Midian; they also killed Balaam son of Beor by the sword. ⁹ The _⌊Israelites_⌋* took captive the women of Midian and their children, and they plundered all their domestic animals and all their livestock and all their wealth. ¹⁰ They burned all their cities where they dwelled and all their camps with fire. ¹¹ They took all the plunder and all the war-booty with the humans* and domestic animals.* ¹² They brought the captives, the war-booty, and the plunder to Moses, and to Eleazar the priest, and to the community of the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* to the camp to the desert-plateau of Moab, which was on the Jordan across Jericho. ¹³ And Moses and Eleazar the priest and all the leaders of the community went out to meet them outside the camp. ¹⁴ But Moses was angry toward the leaders of the troops, the commanders of the thousands and the commanders of the hundreds, who came from the battle of the war. ¹⁵ And Moses said to them, "You have kept alive every female? ¹⁶ Behold, these women _⌊caused_⌋* the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* by the word of Balaam, to be in apostasy against Yahweh in the matter of Peor, so that the plague was among the community of Yahweh. ¹⁷ Now kill every male among the little children, and kill every woman who has _⌊had sexual intercourse with a man_⌋.* ¹⁸ But all the females who have not _⌊had sexual intercourse with a man_⌋,* keep alive for yourselves.

²² And they will be gathered in a gathering, like a prisoner _⌊in_⌋* a pit. And they will be shut _⌊in_⌋* a prison and be punished _⌊after_⌋* many days.

⁴⁷ Yet I will restore the fortunes* of Moab in the last of the days," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh.
_⌊Thus far_⌋* is the judgment of Moab.

³⁹ '_⌊And then_⌋* in the last of the days I will restore the fortunes* of Elam,' _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh."

²⁸ But there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries, and he has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what it is that will be at the end of days. This is your dream and the visions of your head on your bed.

¹⁴ And I have come* to instruct you about what* will happen to your people _⌊in the future_⌋,* for there is a further vision here _⌊for the future_⌋.*

⁵ Afterward the children of Israel will return and seek Yahweh their God and David their king. They will come in fear to Yahweh and to his goodness at the end of days.

⁵ O my people, remember what Balak the king of Moab devised, and what Balaam the son of Beor answered him, and what happened from Shittim to Gilgal, so that you might know the righteous acts of Yahweh."

¹⁷ 'And it will be in the last days,' God says, 'I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters will prophesy, and your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams.

¹ But know this, that in the last days difficult times will come,

¹⁰ Do not be afraid of the things which you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison so that you may be tested, and you will experience affliction ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.

³ He _⌊uttered_⌋* his oracle and said,
"The declaration of Balaam son Beor, the declaration of the man whose eyes are closed, ⁴ the declaration of the hearer of God's words,* who sees the revelation of Shaddai,* falling down but whose eyes are uncovered.

¹ Then* Job again took up his discourse and said,

³⁵ in order that what was spoken through the prophet would be fulfilled, who said,
"I will open my mouth in parables; I will proclaim what has been hidden since the creation."**

¹ These are the last words of David, the declaration of David the son of Jesse, and the declaration of the man exalted by the Most High, the anointed one of the God of Jacob and the darling of the songs of Israel. ² "The spirit of Yahweh speaks through me, and his word is upon my tongue.

¹ Now concerning food sacrificed to idols, we know that "we all have knowledge."* Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.

² And if I have the gift of prophecy and I know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith so that I can remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.

²⁵ Then* Adam knew* his wife again, and she gave birth to a son. And she called his name Seth, for she said "God has appointed to me another child in the place of Abel, because Cain killed him." ²⁶ And as for Seth, he also fathered a son, and he called his name Enosh. At that time he* began to call on the name of Yahweh.

³ And when Adam had lived one hundred and thirty years, he fathered a child in his likeness, according to his image. And he called his name Seth. ⁴ And the days of Adam after he fathered Seth were eight hundred years. And he fathered sons and daughters. ⁵ And all the days of Adam which he lived were nine hundred and thirty years, and he died. ⁶ When* Seth had lived one hundred and five years, he fathered Enosh. ⁷ And after Seth had fathered Enosh he lived eight hundred and seven years, and fathered sons and daughters. ⁸ And all the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years, and he died. ⁹ When* Enosh lived ninety years, he fathered Kenan. ¹⁰ And after Enosh fathered Kenan he lived eight hundred and fifteen years, and fathered sons and daughters. ¹¹ And all the days of Enosh were nine hundred and five years, and he died. ¹² When* Kenan had lived seventy years, he fathered Mahalalel. ¹³ And after Kenan had fathered Mahalalel, he lived eight hundred and forty years, and fathered sons and daughters. ¹⁴ And all the days of Kenan were nine hundred and ten years, and he died. ¹⁵ When* Mahalalel had lived sixty-five years, he fathered Jared. ¹⁶ And after Mahalalel had fathered Jared, he lived eight hundred and thirty years, and fathered sons and daughters. ¹⁷ And all the days of Mahalalel were eight hundred and ninety-five years, and he died. ¹⁸ When* Jared had lived one hundred and sixty-two years, he fathered Enoch. ¹⁹ And after Jared had fathered Enoch, he lived eight hundred years, and fathered sons and daughters. ²⁰ And all the days of Jared were nine hundred and sixty-two years, and he died. ²¹ When* Enoch had lived sixty-five years, he fathered Methuselah. ²² And Enoch walked with God after he fathered Methuselah three hundred years, and fathered sons and daughters. ²³ And all the days of Enoch were three hundred and sixty-five years. ²⁴ And Enoch walked with God, and he was no more, for God took him. ²⁵ When* Methuselah had lived one hundred and eighty-seven years, he fathered Lamech. ²⁶ And after Methuselah had fathered Lamech, he lived seven hundred and eighty-two years, and fathered sons and daughters. ²⁷ And all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred and sixty-nine years, and he died. ²⁸ When* Lamech had lived one hundred and eighty-two years, he fathered a son. ²⁹ And he called his name Noah, saying, "This one _⌊shall relieve us_⌋* from our work, and from the hard labor of our hands, from the ground which Yahweh had cursed.

¹⁰ The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff between his feet, until Shiloh comes. And to him shall be the obedience of nations.

²⁹ Woe to you, Moab! You have perished, people of Chemosh. He has given his sons as fugitives, and his daughters into captivity, to the king of the Amorites,* Sihon.

³⁸ Then Saul said, "Come here, all you leaders of the people, _⌊so that we find out_⌋* what the sin was this day.

² When he defeated Moab, he measured them with the cord, making them lie on the ground. He measured two cords to kill and _⌊the third cord_⌋* to let live.* So Moab became servants of David, bringing tribute.

⁵ It happened that when Ahab died, Mesha king of Moab rebelled against the king of Israel.

²⁶ When the king of Moab saw that the battle was too heavy for him, he took with him seven hundred men who drew the sword to break through to the king of Edom, but they were not able. ²⁷ He took his firstborn son who was to become king in his place and offered him as a burnt offering on the wall. Great wrath came upon Israel, and they withdrew from him and returned to the land.

² And he struck Moab, and the Moabites became servants to David, bearing tribute.

²⁵ But* I myself* know that my redeemer is alive, and at the last he will stand up upon _⌊the earth_⌋.* ²⁶ And after my skin has been thus destroyed, but* from* my flesh I will see God, ²⁷ whom _⌊I will see for myself_⌋,* and whom my eyes will see and not a stranger.* _⌊My heart faints within me_⌋.*

⁶ Your throne, O God, is forever and ever. A scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom.

⁸ And may he rule from sea up to sea, and from the River* to the edges of the land. ⁹ Let the desert dwellers bow down before him, and his enemies lick the dust. ¹⁰ Let the kings of Tarshish and the islands bring tribute. Let the kings of Sheba and Seba present gifts, ¹¹ and let all kings bow down to him. Let all nations serve him.

⁷⁰ And he chose David his servant and took him from the sheepfolds. ⁷¹ He brought him from following nursing ewes to shepherd Jacob, his people, and Israel, his inheritance. ⁷² And he shepherded them according to the integrity of his heart, and led them by the skillfulness of his hands.

² Yahweh will send out your mighty scepter from Zion; rule in the midst of your enemies.

¹ An oracle of Moab:
Because Ar is devastated in a night, Moab is destroyed; because Kir of Moab is devastated in a night, it is destroyed. ² It has gone up to the house,* and Dibon to the high places for weeping over Nebo, and Moab wails over Medeba. _⌊Every head is bald_⌋,* every beard is shaved. ³ They gird themselves with sackcloth in its streets; on its roofs and public squares everyone wails, going down in weeping. ⁴ And Heshbon and Elealeh cry* out, their voice is heard as far as Jahaz; therefore the armed ones of Moab cry out; its soul quivers* for him. ⁵ My heart cries out for Moab; its fugitives flee up to Zoar, to Eglath-shelishiyah. For at the ascent of Luhith it goes up it with weeping; for on the road of Horonaim they raise up a cry of destruction. ⁶ For the waters of Nimrim are wastelands; for the grass has withered, the vegetation has vanished, there is no greenness. ⁷ Therefore they carry the abundance it has made and their store of goods over the river of the poplars. ⁸ For a cry for help has encircled the territory of Moab, her wailing is heard as far as Eglaim, and her wailing as far as Beer Elim. ⁹ For the waters of Dimon* are full of blood; but I will place added things upon Dimon: a lion for the survivors* of Moab and for the remnant of the land.

¹ Send a ram* to the ruler of the land, from Sela across the desert to the mountain of _⌊daughter Zion_⌋.* ² And this shall be:
like a bird fleeing from a thrust away nest shall be the daughters of Moab at the fords of Arnon. ³ "Bring counsel, make a decision; make your shade like the night in the middle of noonday. Hide the outcasts; you must not betray the fugitive. ⁴ Let my outcasts of Moab dwell as aliens among you; be a hiding place for them from the presence of the destroyer." When the oppressor is no more, destruction has stopped, the _⌊one who tramples has_⌋* disappeared from the land, ⁵ then a throne shall be established in steadfast love, and one shall sit on it in faithfulness, in the tent of David, judging and seeking justice and zealous for righteousness. ⁶ We have heard of the pride of Moab—exceedingly proud— of his arrogance, pride, and insolence; _⌊his boasting is not true_⌋.* ⁷ Therefore Moab wails; all of it wails for Moab, for the raisin cakes of Kir-hareseth you moan, _⌊utterly devastated_⌋.* ⁸ For Heshbon withers the fields, the vine of Sibmah; rulers of nations have broken down her tendrils, they reached up to Jazer, they wandered to the desert; her shoots spread abroad, they crossed over the sea. ⁹ Therefore I weep with the weeping of Jazer for the vine of Sibmah. I drench you with my tears,* Heshbon and Elealeh, for a jubilant shout has fallen over your summer fruit and harvest. ¹⁰ And joy and gladness are* taken away from the fruitful land, and in the vineyards no one exults, no one shouts for joy; no treader treads wine in the presses; I have put to an end to the jubilant shout. ¹¹ Therefore my _⌊heart moans_⌋* like a harp for Moab and my inner parts for Kir-heres. ¹² And this shall happen:
when Moab appears, when it is weary upon the high place and it comes to its sanctuary to pray, it will not prevail. ¹³ This was the word that Yahweh spoke to Moab _⌊in the past_⌋.* ¹⁴ But now Yahweh speaks, saying, "In three years, like the years of a hired worker, the glory of Moab will become contemptible, with all of the great multitude, and the remnant will be a few, small, not strong.

⁴⁵ "In the shadow of Heshbon fugitives stand without strength, for a fire has gone out from Heshbon, and a flame from Sihon. And it has eaten the forehead of Moab, and the skulls* of the people* of tumult.

⁴ From them* the cornerstone will go out, from them* the tent peg, from them* the battle bow, from them* every ruler, all together.

¹⁰ " 'I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants* of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication, and they will look to me whom they pierced, and they shall mourn over him, as one wails over an only child, and they will grieve bitterly over him as one grieves bitterly over a firstborn.

² saying, "Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? For we have seen his star at its rising* and have come to worship him." ³ And when* King Herod heard it,* he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him, ⁴ and after* calling together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired from them where the Christ was to be born. ⁵ So they said to him, "In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written by the prophet, ⁶ 'And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah, for from you will go out a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.'"* ⁷ Then Herod secretly summoned the wise men and* determined precisely from them the time when* the star appeared. ⁸ And he sent them to Bethlehem and* said, "Go, inquire carefully concerning the child, and when you have found him, report to me so that I also may come and* worship him." ⁹ After* they listened to the king, they went out, and behold, the star which they had seen at its rising* led them until it came and* stood above the place where the child was.

³² This one will be great, and he will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of his father David. ³³ And he will reign over the house of Jacob _⌊forever_⌋,* and of his kingdom there will be no end.

⁷⁸ because of the merciful compassion* of our God by which the dawn will visit to help us from on high,

⁸ but concerning the Son,
"Your throne, O God, is _⌊forever and ever_⌋*, and the scepter of righteous is the scepter of your kingdom.

¹⁹ and we possess as more reliable the prophetic word, to which you do well if you* pay attention to it as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts,

¹¹ Woe to them! For they have traveled in the way of Cain, and have given themselves up to the error of Balaam for gain, and have perished* in the rebellion of Korah.

¹⁴ And Enoch, the seventh from Adam, also prophesied about* these people, saying, "Behold, the Lord came with tens of thousands of his holy ones ¹⁵ to execute judgment against all, and to convict all the ungodly* concerning all their ungodly deeds that they have committed in an ungodly way, and concerning all the harsh things that ungodly sinners have spoken against him.

⁷ Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even every one who pierced him, and all the tribes of the earth will mourn over him.
Yes, amen.

¹⁶ "I, Jesus, sent my angel to testify to you about these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star."

⁴⁰ But by your sword you shall live, and you shall serve your brother. But it shall be that when free yourself you shall tear off his yoke from your neck.

³ Then Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother, to the land of Seir, the territory of Edom.

¹⁴ He put garrisons in Edom; all over Edom he put garrisons, and all of Edom became servants of David. Yahweh protected David wherever he went.

O God, you have rejected us. You have broken us. You have been angry. Restore us!

⁸ Moab is my washing pot; over Edom, I will cast my sandal. On account of me, O Philistia, raise a shout." ⁹ Who will bring me to the fortified city? Who will lead me to Edom? ¹⁰ Have not you yourself rejected us, O God, and not gone out with our armies, O God? ¹¹ Give us help against the adversary, for the help of humankind is futile. ¹² Through God we will do _⌊valiantly_⌋,* and it is he who will tread down our enemies.

⁵ When my sword is drenched in the heavens,
look! It will descend upon Edom, and upon the people of my ban, for judgment.

¹ Who is this, coming from Edom, from Bozrah in bright red garments? Who is this honored in his garment, lying down in his great strength? "It is I, speaking in justice, _⌊mighty_⌋* to save!"

¹² Thus they may take possession of the remnant of Edom and all the nations _⌊who are called by my name_⌋,"* _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, who does this.

¹ Why are nations in tumult, and countries plotting* in vain?* ² The kings of the earth establish themselves, and the rulers conspire* together against Yahweh and his anointed: ³ "Let us tear off their bonds, and cast their cords from us!" ⁴ He who sits enthroned in the heavens laughs. The Lord derides them. ⁵ Then he speaks to them in his wrath, and in his fury he terrifies them: ⁶ "But as for me, I have set my king on Zion, my holy mountain." ⁷ I will tell the decree; Yahweh said to me: "You are my son; today I have begotten you. ⁸ Ask from me and I will make the nations your heritage, and your possession the ends of the earth. ⁹ You will break them with an iron rod. Like a potter's vessel you will shatter them." ¹⁰ So then, O kings, be wise. Be warned, O rulers of the earth. ¹¹ Serve Yahweh with fear, and rejoice with trembling. ¹² Kiss the Son lest he be angry and you perish on the way, for his anger burns quickly. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.

⁷ Because the king trusts Yahweh, and through the steadfast love* of the Most High he shall not be moved. ⁸ Your hand will find all your enemies; your right hand will find those who hate you. ⁹ You will make them like your fiery furnace at the time of your appearance. Yahweh will swallow them in his wrath and fire will consume them. ¹⁰ You will destroy their _⌊offspring_⌋* from the earth, and their _⌊descendants_⌋* from among the children of humankind.

¹⁰ And this shall happen on that day:
the nations shall inquire of the root of Jesse, which shall be standing as a signal to the peoples, and his resting place shall be glorious.

² But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, too small to be among the clans of Judah, from you one will go out for me, to be ruler in Israel; and his origins are from of old, from ancient days.

⁴ And he will stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of Yahweh, in the majesty of the name of Yahweh his God. And they will live, for now he will be great unto the ends of the earth.

⁴⁶ And these will depart into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

¹⁸ And Jesus approached and* spoke to them, saying, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

¹² Therefore he said, "A certain nobleman traveled to a distant country to receive for himself a kingdom and to return.

²⁷ But these enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them—bring them* here and slaughter them in my presence!'"

²⁵ For it is necessary for him to reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.

²⁰ which he has worked* in Christ, raising* him from the dead and seating him* at his right hand in the heavenly places, ²¹ above all rule and authority and power and lordship and every name named, not only in this age but also in the coming one, ²² and he subjected all things under his feet* and gave him as head over all things to the church,

²² who is at the right hand of God, having gone into heaven, with angels and authorities and powers having been subjected to him.

⁸ And Amalek came and fought with Israel at Rephidim.

¹⁴ And Yahweh said to Moses, "Write this as a memorial in the scroll and _⌊recite it in the hearing of_⌋* Joshua, because I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under the heavens."

¹⁶ And he said, "Because a hand was against the throne of Yah,* a war will be for Yahweh with Amalek from generation to generation."

³ And whenever Israel sowed seed, the Midianites,* Amalekites,* and the people of the east would come up against them.

⁴⁸ He acted bravely and defeated the Amalekites and rescued Israel from the hand of those who plundered it.

³ So then, go and attack Amalek and utterly destroy all that is his! You must not spare him, but kill both man and woman, both child and nursing infant, both ox and sheep, both camel and donkey.'" ⁴ Saul summoned the army and mustered them at Telaim; two hundred thousand foot soldiers and ten thousand men of Judah. ⁵ Then Saul came up to the city of Amalek and set an ambush in the wadi.* ⁶ Saul said to the Kenites, "Go, leave! Withdraw from among the Amalekites so that I do not destroy you with them. You have shown loyal love to all the _⌊Israelites_⌋* when they came up from Egypt." So the Kenites left from among the Amalekites. ⁷ Then Saul defeated the Amalekites from Havilah as one goes to Shur which is _⌊east of_⌋* Egypt. ⁸ He captured Agag the king of Amalek alive, but all the people he utterly destroyed with the _⌊edge_⌋* of the sword.

⁸ Now David and his men went up and raided the Geshurites and the Girzites and the Amalekites, for they had been living in the land for a long time _⌊in the direction of_⌋* Shur and _⌊as far as_⌋* the land of Egypt. ⁹ So David struck the land and did not leave a man or a woman alive; he took the sheep,* the cattle, the donkeys, the camels, and the clothing. Then he returned and came to Achish.

¹ _⌊Now_⌋* when David and his men came to Ziklag on the third day, the Amalekites had raided the Negev and Ziklag. When they attacked Ziklag, they burned it with fire.

¹⁷ Then David attacked them from twilight until the evening of the next day. Not a man of them escaped _⌊except_⌋* four hundred young men who rode off on camels and fled.

⁴³ And they destroyed the remainder of the Amalekites who had escaped, and they have lived there to this day.

¹ After these things King Ahasuerus promoted Haman son of Hammedatha the Agagite, and he exalted him and set _⌊his position_⌋* above all the officials who were with him.

⁹ And Habrona, one of the eunuchs in the presence of the king, said, "Look, the same gallows that Haman had prepared for Mordecai who spoke good for the sake of the king stands at Haman's house, fifty cubits high." And the king said, "Hang him on it." ¹⁰ And they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai, and the anger of the king was abated.

¹⁴ And the king said to do so. And a decree was issued in Susa and Haman's ten sons were hanged.

¹⁹ the land of the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites,

¹⁶ The descendants* of Hobab the Kenite, Moses' father-in-law, went up with the descendants* of Judah from the city of palms into the wilderness of Judah, which is in the Negev* near Arad. And they went* and settled with the people.

¹⁸ "And I thought, 'I will pass away in my nest, and like the phoenix I shall multiply my days.

¹¹ From that land he went out to Assyria, and he built Nineveh, Rehoboth-Ir, Calah,

⁸ Assyria also has joined with them. They _⌊provide help_⌋* to the children of Lot. Selah

³ Assyria will not save us; we will not ride on horses,* and we will say no more, "Our God," to the work of our hands because in you the fatherless child finds mercy.

¹ Now Naaman was the commander of the army of the king of Aram. He was a great man before his master and _⌊highly regarded_⌋,* for by him Yahweh had given victory to Aram. Now the man was a mighty warrior, but he was afflicted with a skin disease.

² And who can endure the day of his coming? And who is the one who can stand _⌊when he appears_⌋?* For he is like a refiner's fire, like launderers' alkali.*

⁴ And the sons of Javan: Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim.

²¹ And to Shem, the father of all the children of Eber, the older brother of Japheth, children were also born. ²² The sons of Shem: Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram. ²³ And the sons of Aram: Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash. ²⁴ And Arphaxad fathered Shelah, and Shelah fathered Eber. ²⁵ And to Eber two sons were born. The name of the one was Peleg, for in his days the earth was divided, and the name of his brother was Joktan.

¹³ Then* one who escaped came and told Abram the Hebrew. And he was living at the oaks of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol and brother of Aner. _⌊They were allies with Abram_⌋.*

²⁰ And he looked at Amalek, _⌊uttered_⌋* his oracle, and said, "Amalek is first* of the nations, but his future will be forever ruin."

¹ The oracle of Tyre:
Wail, ships of Tarshish, for _⌊the house is destroyed so that no one can enter_⌋;* it is announced to them from the land of Cyprus.

³⁵ Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver and the gold _⌊all at once_⌋* broke into pieces* and they became like chaff from the summer threshing floor, and the wind carried them away and any trace of them could not be found. But the stone that struck the statue became a great mountain and it filled the whole earth.

⁴⁵ _⌊Inasmuch as_⌋* you saw that a stone from the mountain was chiseled out* but not by hands, and that it crushed the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver and the gold, thereby the great God made known to the king what will be _⌊in the future_⌋,* and the dream is certain and its explanation trustworthy."

¹⁹ "Then I desired to make certain concerning the fourth beast that was different from _⌊all the others_⌋*—exceedingly terrifying, with its iron teeth and its claws of bronze; it devoured and crushed and stamped the remainder with its feet— ²⁰ and concerning the horns that were on its head, and concerning the other horn that came up and _⌊before which three horns fell_⌋,* and this horn _⌊had eyes_⌋* and a mouth speaking _⌊boastfully_⌋,* and its appearance was larger than its companions.

²³ "And he said, 'The fourth beast is the fourth kingdom that will be on the earth that will be different from all the other kingdoms, and it will devour the whole earth and it will trample it and it will crush it. ²⁴ And as for the ten horns coming from it, from this kingdom* ten kings will arise, and another will arise after them. And he will be different from the earlier ones, and he will subdue three kings. ²⁵ And he will speak words against the Most High, and he will wear out the holy ones* of the Most High, and he will attempt to change times and law, and they will be given into his hand for a time and two times and half a time. ²⁶ Then the court will sit, and his dominion will be removed,* to be eradicated and to be destroyed _⌊totally_⌋.*

⁵ And I was considering this, and look, a he-goat coming from the west across the face of the whole earth, and it was not touching the ground;* and the he-goat had _⌊a conspicuous horn_⌋* between its eyes. ⁶ Then it came toward the ram _⌊that had the two horns_⌋* that I saw standing _⌊before_⌋* the stream, and it ran at it with* the rage of its power. ⁷ And I saw it approaching the ram and it was furious at it, and it struck the ram, and it broke its two horns, and _⌊there was not strength in the ram to stand before him_⌋,* and he threw it down to the ground and trampled it, _⌊and there was no one who could rescue the ram_⌋* from its power. ⁸ And the he-goat grew _⌊exceedingly great_⌋,* and _⌊at the height of its power_⌋* the great horn was broken, and four conspicuous horns* came up in place of it toward the four winds of heaven.

²¹ "And the hairy he-goat is the _⌊kingdom_⌋* of Greece, and the great horn that is between his eyes—he is the first king.

²⁶ "And after the sixty and two weeks an anointed one* shall be cut off, and _⌊he shall have nothing_⌋,* and the people of the coming leader will destroy the city and the sanctuary,* and its end will be with the flood and on to the end there shall be war; these desolations are determined. ²⁷ And he will make a strong covenant with the many for one week, but in half of the week he will let cease sacrifice and offering _⌊and in its place_⌋* a desolating abomination comes even until _⌊the determined complete destruction_⌋* is poured out on the desolator."

²⁰ Then he asked, "Do you know why I have come to you? And now I return to fight against the prince of Persia and I myself* am going, and look,* the prince of Javan* will come.

³⁰ And the ships of Kittim will come against him, and he will lose heart, and he will turn back, and he will be enraged _⌊against the holy covenant_⌋,* and he will take action, and he will turn back, and he will pay attention to those who forsake _⌊the holy covenant_⌋.*

⁴⁵ And then he will pitch the tents of his palace between the sea and _⌊the beautiful holy mountain_⌋,* and he will come to his end, and there is no one* helping him."

¹⁵ "So when you see the abomination of desolation* spoken about by the prophet Daniel standing in the holy place" (let the one who reads understand),

²⁴ "Show me a denarius! Whose image and inscription does it have?" And they answered and* said,* "Caesar's."

²⁹ For behold, days are coming in which they will say, 'Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that did not give birth, and the breasts that did not nurse!' ³⁰ Then they will begin to say to the mountains, 'Fall on us!' and to the hills, 'Cover us!' ³¹ For if they do these things _⌊when the wood is green_⌋,* what will happen _⌊when it is dry_⌋?"*

⁴⁸ If we allow him to go on in this way, everyone will believe in him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place* and our* nation."

² And he cried out with a powerful voice, saying,
"Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great, and it has become a dwelling place of demons and a haunt of every unclean spirit and a haunt of every unclean bird and a haunt of every unclean and detested animal. ³ For all the nations have drunk* from the wine of the passion of her sexual immorality, and the kings of the earth have committed sexual immorality with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich from the power of her sensuality." ⁴ And I heard another voice from heaven saying,
"Come out from her, my people, so that you will not participate in her sins, and so that you will not receive her plagues, ⁵ because her sins have reached up to heaven, and God has remembered her crimes. ⁶ Pay back to her as she herself also paid out, and _⌊pay back double_⌋* according to her deeds; in the cup that she mixed, mix double for her. ⁷ As much as she glorified herself and lived in luxury, give to her so much torment and mourning, because in her heart she said, 'I sit as a queen, and am not a widow, and I will never see mourning!' ⁸ Because of this her plagues will come in one day— death and mourning and famine— and she will be burned up with fire, because the Lord God who passes judgment on her is powerful!" ⁹ And the kings of the earth will weep and mourn over her, those who committed sexual immorality and lived sensually with her, when they see the smoke of her burning, ¹⁰ standing _⌊far off_⌋* because of the fear of her torment, saying,
"Woe, woe, the great city, Babylon the powerful city, because in one hour your judgment has come!" ¹¹ And the merchants of the earth weep and mourn over her, because no one buys their cargo any more— ¹² cargo of gold and silver and precious stones and pearls and fine linen and purple cloth and silk and scarlet cloth and all kinds of scented wood and all kinds of ivory goods and all kinds of goods of precious wood and bronze and iron and marble ¹³ and cinnamon and amomum* and incense and ointment and frankincense and wine and olive oil and fine wheat flour and wheat and domesticated animals and sheep and horses and carriages and _⌊slaves_⌋* and human lives. ¹⁴ "And _⌊the fruit your soul desires_⌋* has departed from you, and all the luxury and the splendor has perished from you, and they will never find them any more." ¹⁵ The merchants of these things, who became rich from them, will stand _⌊far off_⌋*, weeping and mourning because of the fear of her torment, ¹⁶ saying,
"Woe, woe, the great city, dressed in fine linen and purple cloth and scarlet cloth, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls, ¹⁷ because in one hour such great wealth has been laid waste!"
And every shipmaster and _⌊every seafarer_⌋* and sailors and all those who labor on the sea stood _⌊far off_⌋* ¹⁸ and began to cry out when they* saw the smoke of her burning, saying, "Who is like the great city?" ¹⁹ And they threw dust on their heads and were crying out, weeping and mourning, saying,
"Woe, woe, the great city, in which all those who had ships on the sea became rich from her prosperity, because in one hour she has been laid waste!" ²⁰ Rejoice over her, heaven and the saints and the apostles and the prophets, because God has pronounced your judgment on her!" ²¹ And one powerful angel picked up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying,
"In this way Babylon the great city will be thrown down with violence, and will never be found again! ²² And the sound of harpists and musicians and flute players and trumpeters will never be heard in you again! And every craftsman of every trade will never be found in you again! And the sound of a mill will never be heard in you again! ²³ And the light of a lamp will never shine in you again! And the sound of a bridegroom and bride will never be heard in you again! For your merchants were the most important people of the earth, because with your sorcery they deceived all the nations. ²⁴ And in her was found the blood of prophets and saints and all those who had been slaughtered on the earth.

¹¹ _⌊Flee_⌋* to your place now. I said I would richly honor you, but look, Yahweh has withheld honor from you."

⁸ They killed the kings of Midian in addition to the ones they had slain: Evi and Rekem and Zur and Hur and Reba, the five kings of Midian; they also killed Balaam son of Beor by the sword.
