¹ Then the entire community of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* came to the desert of Zin on the first month, and the people stayed in Kadesh; Miriam died and was buried there. ² There was no water for the community, and they were gathered before Moses and Aaron. ³ And the people quarreled with Moses and spoke, saying, "If only we died when our brothers were dying _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh! ⁴ Why have you brought the assembly of Yahweh, us and our livestock, into this desert to die here? ⁵ Why have you brought us from Egypt to bring us to this bad place? It is not a place of seed or figs* or vines* or pomegranate trees,* and there is not water to drink." ⁶ And Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly to the doorway of the tent of assembly. They fell on their faces, and the glory of Yahweh appeared to them. ⁷ Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, ⁸ "Take the staff and summon the community, you and Aaron your brother, and speak to the rock before their eyes, and it will give water. Bring out for them water from the rock, and let the community and their livestock drink." ⁹ So Moses took the staff from _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh just as he command him, ¹⁰ and Moses and Aaron summoned the assembly to the presence of the rock, and he said to them, "Please listen, you rebels; can we bring out water for you from this rock?" ¹¹ Then Moses lifted up his hand and struck the rock with his staff twice. And abundant water went out, and the community and their livestock drank. ¹² But Yahweh said to Moses and Aaron, "Because you have not trusted in me, to regard me as holy _⌊in the sight of_⌋* the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* you will not bring this assembly into the land that I have given to them." ¹³ Those were the waters of Meribah, where the _⌊Israelites_⌋* quarreled with Yahweh, and he showed himself holy among them. ¹⁴ From Kadesh Moses sent messengers to the king of Edom: "Thus your brother Israel has said, 'You know all the hardship that has found us; ¹⁵ our ancestors* went down to Egypt, and we lived in Egypt _⌊a long time_⌋,* and the Egyptians mistreated us and our ancestors.* ¹⁶ Then we cried to Yahweh, and he heard our voice; he sent an angel and brought us out from Egypt. And look, we are in Kadesh, a city on the edge of your territory. ¹⁷ Please let us go through your land. We will not go through a field or vineyard, and we will not drink water from a well. We will go along the road of the king; we will not turn aside right or left until we have gone through your territory.'" ¹⁸ Then Edom said to him, "You will not pass through us* lest _⌊we will go out_⌋* to meet you with the sword." ¹⁹ The _⌊Israelites_⌋* said to him, "We will go up on the main road, and if we* and our livestock* drink your water, we will pay for it.* It is only a small matter; let us pass through on our feet."* ²⁰ But he said, "You will not go through." And Edom went out to meet _⌊them_⌋* with a large army and a strong hand. ²¹ So Edom refused to give Israel passage through his territory, and Israel turned aside from him. ²² And they set out from Kadesh. The _⌊Israelites_⌋,* the whole community, came to Mount Hor. ²³ Yahweh said to Moses and to Aaron on Mount Hor, on the boundary of the land of Edom, saying, ²⁴ "Let Aaron be gathered to his people; he will not come into the land that I have given to the _⌊Israelites_⌋* because you rebelled against _⌊my word_⌋* at the waters of Meribah. ²⁵ Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and take them up Mount Hor. ²⁶ Strip off Aaron's garments, and put them on Eleazar his son; Aaron will be gathered to his people, and he will die there." ²⁷ So Moses did just as Yahweh commanded, and they went up to Mount Hor before the eyes of all the community. ²⁸ And Moses stripped off Aaron's garments and put them on Eleazar his son. Aaron died there on the top of the mountain; and Moses and Eleazar went down from the mountain. ²⁹ All the community saw that Aaron died; so all the house of Israel wept for Aaron thirty days.*

⁴ And his sister stood at a distance to know what would be done to him.

⁷ And his sister said to the daughter of Pharaoh, "Shall I go and call for you a woman from the Hebrews who is nursing so that she will nurse the boy for you?"

²⁰ And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took her* tambourine in her hand, and all of the women went out after her with tambourines and with dances.

¹ And Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Cushite woman whom he took (because he took a Cushite wife);

¹⁰ And the cloud departed from on the tent, and behold, Miriam was infected with _⌊a skin disease_⌋* white like snow; when Aaron turned toward Miriam, behold, she was afflicted with a skin disease.

¹⁵ So Miriam was confined to the outside place of the camp seven days, and the people did not set out until Miriam was gathered.

²¹ So they went up and explored the land from the desert of Zin until Rehob, at Lebo Hamath.*

¹⁶ Then we cried to Yahweh, and he heard our voice; he sent an angel and brought us out from Egypt. And look, we are in Kadesh, a city on the edge of your territory.

⁵⁹ The name of the wife of Amram was Jochebed, the daughter of Levi, whose mother bore her for Levi in Egypt; she bore to Amram: Aaron and Moses and their sister Miriam.

¹⁴ because you rebelled against my word in the desert of Zin when the community quarreled regarding my holiness at the waters." (These are the waters of Meribah-Kadesh in the desert of Zin.)

³⁶ They set out from Ezion Geber and camped in the desert of Zin, that is, Kadesh.

²² "Then all of you approached me, and you said, 'Let us send men _⌊before us_⌋,* and let them explore the land for us, and let them bring back _⌊a report_⌋* to us concerning the way that _⌊we should take_⌋* and concerning the cities that we shall come to.' ²³ The plan was good _⌊in my opinion_⌋,* and so I took from among you twelve men, _⌊one from each tribe_⌋.*

¹⁴ Now the _⌊length of time_⌋* that we had traveled from Kadesh Barnea until the time when we crossed the wadi* of Zered was thirty-eight years, until the perishing of all of that generation; that is, the men of war from the midst of the camp as Yahweh had sworn to them.

⁵¹ because of the fact that you broke faith with me in the midst of Israel at the waters of Meribah Kadesh, in the desert of Zin, because _⌊you did not treat me as holy_⌋* in the midst of the _⌊Israelites_⌋.*

⁸ The voice of Yahweh shakes the wilderness. Yahweh shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.

⁴ For I brought you up from the land of Egypt, and from the house of slavery I redeemed you. And I sent Moses, Aaron, and Miriam before you.

²³ And they came to Marah, and they were not able to drink water from Marah because it was bitter. Therefore _⌊it was named_⌋* Marah. ²⁴ And the people grumbled against Moses, saying, "What shall we drink?"

² And all the community of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* grumbled against Moses and against Aaron in the desert.

⁷ and in the morning, you will see the glory of Yahweh, _⌊for he hears_⌋* your grumblings against Yahweh, and what are we that you grumble against us?"

¹² "I have heard the grumblings of the _⌊Israelites_⌋.* Speak to them, saying, '_⌊At twilight_⌋* you will eat meat, and in the morning you will be full with bread, and you will know that I am Yahweh your God.'"

¹ And all the community of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* set out from the desert of Sin for their journeys according to the command of Yahweh, and they camped in Rephidim, and there was no water for the people to drink. ² And the people quarreled with Moses, and they said, "Give us water so that we can drink." And Moses said to them, "Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test Yahweh?" ³ And the people thirsted for water, and the people grumbled against Moses and said, "Why _⌊ever_⌋* did you bring us up from Egypt to kill me* and my sons and my cattle with thirst?" ⁴ And Moses cried out to Yahweh, saying, "What will I do with this people? A little longer and they will stone me."

¹ And it happened, the people were like those who _⌊complain of hardship_⌋* _⌊in the hearing_⌋* of Yahweh, and Yahweh _⌊became angry_⌋,* and the fire of Yahweh burned among them, and it consumed the edge of the camp. ² Then the people cried out to Moses, and Moses prayed to Yahweh, and the fire died down. ³ And he called the name of that place Taberah* because the fire of Yahweh burned among them. ⁴ The riff-raff that were in their midst _⌊had a strong desire_⌋;* and the _⌊Israelites_⌋* turned back and also wept, and they said, "Who will feed us meat? ⁵ We remember the fish that we ate in Egypt for nothing, the cucumber, melon, leek, the onions, and the garlic. ⁶ But now _⌊our strength is dried up_⌋;* there is nothing whatsoever except _⌊for the manna before us_⌋."*

³ They were assembled in front of Moses and Aaron, and they said to them, "_⌊You take too much upon yourselves_⌋!* All of the community is holy, every one of them, and Yahweh is in their midst, so why do you raise yourselves over the assembly of Yahweh?"

¹⁹ And Korah summoned them, the entire community, by the doorway of the tent of assembly, and the glory of Yahweh appeared to all the community.

⁴² Then, when the community had gathered against Moses and Aaron, they turned to the tent of assembly, and behold, the cloud covered it, and the glory of Yahweh appeared.

⁵ The people spoke against God and against Moses, "Why have you brought us from Egypt to die in the desert? There is no food and no water, and our hearts detest this miserable food."

¹⁰ nor grumble, just as some of them grumbled, and were destroyed by the destroyer. ¹¹ Now these things happened to those people as an example, but are written for our instruction, on whom the ends of the ages have come.

² And all the community of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* grumbled against Moses and against Aaron in the desert. ³ And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* said to them, "_⌊If only we had died_⌋* by the hand of Yahweh in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots* of meat, when we ate bread _⌊until we were full_⌋,* because you have brought us out to this desert to kill all of this assembly with hunger."

² And the people quarreled with Moses, and they said, "Give us water so that we can drink." And Moses said to them, "Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test Yahweh?"

¹ And it happened, the people were like those who _⌊complain of hardship_⌋* _⌊in the hearing_⌋* of Yahweh, and Yahweh _⌊became angry_⌋,* and the fire of Yahweh burned among them, and it consumed the edge of the camp.

³³ While the meat was still between their teeth, before it was consumed, Yahweh was angry with the people, and Yahweh struck a very great plague among the people. ³⁴ And he called the name of that place Kibroth Hattaavah* because they buried the people that _⌊were greedy_⌋.*

¹ Then all the community _⌊lifted up their voices_⌋,* and the people wept during that night. ² And all the _⌊Israelites_⌋* grumbled against Moses and Aaron, and all the community said to them, "If only we had died in the land of Egypt or in this desert!

³⁶ As for the men whom Moses sent to explore the land, who returned and made the community grumble against him by spreading a report over the land, ³⁷ the men who spread the evil report of the land died by the plague _⌊before Yahweh_⌋.*

³¹ And it happened, as soon as he finished _⌊speaking_⌋* all these words, the ground that was under them split open. ³² The land opened its mouth and swallowed them up with their houses and every person _⌊that belonged to Korah_⌋* and all the property. ³³ They went down alive to Sheol, they and all that belonged to them, and the land covered over them, and they perished from the midst of the assembly. ³⁴ All Israel who were around them fled at their cry, because they said, "Lest the land swallow us up!" ³⁵ And fire went out from Yahweh, and it consumed the two hundred and fifty men presenting the incense.

⁴⁹ Those who died by the plague were fourteen thousand seven hundred, besides those who died on account of Korah.

¹⁰ because it did not shut the doors of my mother's womb, nor* did it hide trouble from my eyes. ¹¹ "Why did I not die at* birth? Why did I not come forth from the womb and expire?

⁹ Happier were the victims of the sword than the victims of famine; they have pined away, very hungry for the crops of my field.

²¹ And they said to them, "May Yahweh look upon you and judge because you have caused our fragrance to stink in the eyes of Pharaoh and in the eyes of his servants so as to put a sword into their hand to kill us."

¹¹ And they said to Moses, "Because there are no graves in Egypt? Is that why you have taken us to die in the desert? What is this you have done to us by bringing us out from Egypt! ¹² Isn't this the word we spoke to you in Egypt, saying, 'Leave us alone so that we can serve Egypt!' because serving Egypt is better for us than our dying in the desert."

³ And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* said to them, "_⌊If only we had died_⌋* by the hand of Yahweh in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots* of meat, when we ate bread _⌊until we were full_⌋,* because you have brought us out to this desert to kill all of this assembly with hunger."

³ And the people thirsted for water, and the people grumbled against Moses and said, "Why _⌊ever_⌋* did you bring us up from Egypt to kill me* and my sons and my cattle with thirst?"

⁵ We remember the fish that we ate in Egypt for nothing, the cucumber, melon, leek, the onions, and the garlic.

¹³ Is it too little that you have brought us from a land that flows with milk and honey to kill us in the desert, and that you also appoint yourself as a ruler over us? ¹⁴ Surely, you have not brought us to a land that flows with milk and honey, and you have not given us the inheritance of fields and a vineyard. Will you gouge out the eyes of these men? We will not come!"*

⁴¹ The next day all the community of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* grumbled against Moses and Aaron, saying, "You have killed the people of Yahweh!"

²¹ They forgot God their Savior, who had done great things in Egypt,

³⁵ This Moses whom they had repudiated, saying, 'Who appointed you a ruler and a judge?'*—this man God sent as both ruler and redeemer with _⌊the help_⌋* of the angel who appeared to him in the bush.

³⁹ to whom our fathers were not willing to become obedient, but rejected him* and turned back in their hearts to Egypt, ⁴⁰ saying to Aaron, 'Make us gods who will go on before us! For this Moses, who led us out from the land of Egypt—we do not know what has happened to him!'*

¹⁴ Surely, you have not brought us to a land that flows with milk and honey, and you have not given us the inheritance of fields and a vineyard. Will you gouge out the eyes of these men? We will not come!"*

¹⁵ the one leading you in the great and terrible desert infested with _⌊dangerous_⌋* snakes* and scorpions* and parched ground, where there is* no water, and the one bringing out water for you from flint rock,

²¹ Forty years you sustained them in the desert—they were not in need. Their clothing did not wear out and their feet did not swell.

² "Go and proclaim in the ears of Jerusalem, _⌊saying_⌋,* 'Thus says Yahweh,
"I remember concerning you the loyal love of your childhood,* the love of your betrothal-time, your going* after me in the desert,* in the land not sown.

⁶ And they did not say, 'Where is Yahweh, the one who brought us up from the land of Egypt, the one who led us in the desert,* in a land of desert plains and gorges,* in a land of dryness and deep darkness, in a land _⌊that no one passes through_⌋,* and no human lives there?'

³⁶ _⌊Just as_⌋* I executed justice on your ancestors* in the desert of the land of Egypt, likewise I will execute justice on you!" _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh.

¹⁰ And at the moment of Aaron's speaking to all the community of the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* they turned to the desert, _⌊and just then_⌋* the glory of Yahweh appeared in the cloud.

⁴ And Moses cried out to Yahweh, saying, "What will I do with this people? A little longer and they will stone me."

⁵ And Yahweh went down in a column of cloud and stood at the doorway of the tent, and he called Aaron and Miriam, and the two of them went,

⁵ Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces _⌊before_⌋* the assembly of the community of the _⌊Israelites_⌋.*

¹⁰ And all the community said to stone them with stones, but the glory of Yahweh appeared in the tent of assembly among the _⌊Israelites_⌋.*

⁴ When Moses heard this, he fell on his face.

²² And they fell on their faces, and they said, "God, God of the spirits of all flesh, will one man sin and you become angry toward the entire community?"

⁴⁵ "Get away from the midst of this community, and I will finish them in an instant,"* but they fell on their faces.

⁶ And Joshua tore his clothes and fell to the ground on his face before the ark of Yahweh until the evening, he and the elders of Israel; and they put dust on their heads.*

¹⁶ And David lifted his eyes and saw the angel of Yahweh standing between earth and heaven, with his sword drawn in his hand, stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, fell upon their faces.

³ They also surround me with words of hate, and fight me without cause. ⁴ In return for my love they accuse me, though I am in prayer.*

³⁹ And going forward a little he fell down on his face, praying and saying, "My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me. Nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will."*

¹⁴ Is anything too difficult for Yahweh? At the appointed time I will return to you _⌊in the spring_⌋* and Sarah shall have a son."

² And Yahweh said to him, "What is this in your hand?" And he said, "A staff."

¹⁷ And you must take this staff in your hand, with which you will do the signs."

²⁰ And Moses took his wife and his sons and had them ride on the donkey, and he returned to the land of Egypt, and Moses took the staff of God in his hand.

²⁰ And Moses and Aaron did so, as Yahweh had commanded, and he raised the staff and struck the water that was in the Nile before the eyes of Pharaoh and before the eyes of his servants, and all of the water that was in the Nile was changed to blood.

¹⁶ And you, lift up your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it so that the _⌊Israelites_⌋* can go in the middle of the sea on the dry land.

⁵ And Yahweh said to Moses, "Go on before the people and take with you some from the elders of Israel, and the staff with which you struck the Nile take in your hand, and go. ⁶ Look, I will be standing before you there on the rock in Horeb, and you will strike the rock, and water will come out from it, and the people will drink."
And Moses did so before the eyes of the elders of Israel.

⁹ And Moses said to Joshua, "Choose men for us, and go out, fight against Amalek tomorrow. I will be standing on the top of the hill, and the staff of God will be in my hand."

¹¹ Then Moses lifted up his hand and struck the rock with his staff twice. And abundant water went out, and the community and their livestock drank.

¹⁵ and the slope of the wadis that spreads out to the dwelling of Ar and lies at the boundary of Moab."

¹⁸ Well water that the princes dug, that the leaders of the people dug, with a staff and with their rods." And from the desert they continued to Mattanah,

⁵ And when they blow long on the horn of the ram, when you hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people will shout with a great war cry, and the wall of the city will fall flat,* and _⌊the people will charge, each one straight ahead_⌋."*

²⁰ So the people shouted, and they* blew on the trumpets. And when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, they raised a great shout, and the wall fell flat. _⌊The people charged, each one straight ahead into the city_⌋,* and they captured it.

¹⁵ You gave them bread from heaven for their starvation, and you caused water to go out from a rock for their thirst. You told them to go in order to take into possession the land that you have sworn by your hand to give to them.

⁹ For _⌊he himself spoke_⌋* and it came to pass. _⌊He himself commanded_⌋* and it stood firm.

¹⁵ He caused rocks to split in the wilderness and provided drink abundantly as from the depths. ¹⁶ And he brought streams out of the rock and caused water to flow down like rivers.

⁴¹ He opened the rock and waters flowed; they coursed* through the dry places like a river.

⁸ who turned the rock into a pool of water, flinty stone into a spring of water.

¹⁷ The poor and the needy are seeking water and there is none; their tongue is dried up with thirst. I, Yahweh, will answer them; I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them. ¹⁸ I will open rivers on the barren heights and fountains in the midst of the valleys. I will make the wilderness like a pool of water and the land of dryness like springs of water.

²⁰ The animals of the field will honor me, jackals and daughters of the ostrich, for I give water in the wilderness, rivers in the desert, to give a drink to my chosen people,

²¹ And when he led them through the deserts, they were not thirsty; he made water flow from the rock for them, and he split the rock, and the water gushed out.

²¹ And Jesus answered and* said to them, "Truly I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will do not only what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, 'Be lifted up and thrown into the sea," it will happen!

²² And Jesus answered and* said to them, "Have faith in God! ²³ Truly I say to you that whoever says to this mountain, 'Be lifted up and thrown into the sea!' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. ²⁴ For this reason I say to you, whatever you pray and ask for, believe that you have received it,* and it will be done for you.

¹³ Therefore if you, although you* are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the Father from heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?"

¹⁰ Jesus answered and said to her, "If you had known the gift of God and who it is who says to you, 'Give me water* to drink,' you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water." ¹¹ The woman said to him, "Sir, you have no bucket and the well is deep! From where then do you get this living water? ¹² You are not greater than our father Jacob, are you,* who gave us the well and drank from it himself, and his sons and his livestock?" ¹³ Jesus answered and said to her, "Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again. ¹⁴ But whoever drinks of this water which I will give to him will never be thirsty for eternity, but the water which I will give to him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life."

²⁴ Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete.

¹⁴ All these were busily engaged with one mind in prayer, together with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus and with* his brothers.

¹ And when the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in the same place. ² And suddenly a sound like a violent rushing wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. ³ And divided* tongues like fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. ⁴ And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages* as the Spirit gave them ability to speak out.

¹ And he showed me the river of the water of life, clear as crystal, coming out from the throne of God and of the Lamb

¹⁷ And the Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" And the one who hears, let him say, "Come!" And the one who is thirsty, let him come. The one who wants, let him take the water of life freely.*

¹⁰ And Yahweh said to Moses, "Bring back the staff of Aaron before the testimony* as a guard and sign for the children of rebellion, and let them finish their grumblings before me and not die."

⁸ And they said to him, "We each dreamed a dream, but there is no one to interpret it." And Joseph said to them, "Do not interpretations belong to God? Please tell them to me."

¹⁶ Then Joseph answered Pharaoh saying, "_⌊It is not in my power_⌋;* God will answer concerning the well-being of Pharaoh."

²² Should flocks and cattle be slaughtered for them? Should all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, to be enough for them?" ²³ And Yahweh said to Moses, "_⌊Is Yahweh's power limited_⌋?* Now you will see if my word will happen or not."

²⁴ You have been rebellious toward Yahweh _⌊from the day I have known you_⌋.*

³² They also angered God at the waters of Meribah, and it went badly for Moses on account of them, ³³ because they rebelled against his Spirit,* and he spoke thoughtlessly with his lips.

²⁸ But there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries, and he has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what it is that will be at the end of days. This is your dream and the visions of your head on your bed. ²⁹ "As for you, king,* your thoughts on your bed _⌊turned to_⌋* what it was that would be _⌊in the future_⌋,* and the revealer of mysteries has made known to you what that would be. ³⁰ And as for me, it is not because of wisdom that is in me more than _⌊any other living person_⌋* that this mystery is revealed to me, but _⌊in order that_⌋* the explanation* may be made known to the king and you will _⌊understand_⌋* the thoughts of your _⌊mind_⌋.*

²² But I say to you that everyone who is angry at his brother will be subject to judgment, and whoever says to his brother, 'Stupid fool!'* will be subject to the council, and whoever says, 'Obstinate fool!'* will be subject to fiery hell.

⁵⁴ Now when* the disciples James and John saw it,* they said, "Lord, do you want us to call fire to come down from heaven and consume them?" ⁵⁵ But he turned around and* rebuked them,

¹² And when he* saw it,* Peter replied to the people, "Men and Israelites, why are you astonished at this? Or why are you staring at us, as if by our own power or godliness we have made him walk? ¹³ The God of Abraham and of Isaac* and of Jacob,* the God of our fathers, has glorified his servant Jesus, whom you handed over and denied in the presence of Pilate, after* he had decided to release him.* ¹⁴ But you denied the Holy and Righteous One and demanded that a man—a murderer—be granted to you. ¹⁵ And you killed the originator of life, whom God raised from the dead, of which we are witnesses! ¹⁶ And on the basis of faith in his name, his name has made this man strong, whom you see and know, and the faith that is through him has given him this perfect health in the presence of you all.

And he leaped up and began walking.* ¹¹ And when* the crowds saw what Paul had done, they raised their voices in the Lycaonian language, saying, "The gods have become like men and* have come down to us!" ¹² And they began calling* Barnabas Zeus and Paul Hermes, because he was the _⌊principal speaker_⌋.* ¹³ And the priest of the temple* of Zeus that was just outside the city brought bulls and garlands to the gates and* was wanting to offer sacrifice, along with the crowds. ¹⁴ But when* the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard about it,* they tore their clothing and* rushed out into the crowd, shouting ¹⁵ and saying, "Men, why are you doing these things? We also are men with the same nature as you, proclaiming the good news that you should turn from these worthless things to the living God, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and all the things that are in them—

³ Then Paul said to him, "God is going to strike you, you whitewashed wall! And are you sitting there judging me according to the law, and acting contrary to the law do you order me to be struck?" ⁴ And those who stood nearby said, "Are you reviling the high priest of God?" ⁵ And Paul said, "I did not know, brothers, that he was high priest. For it is written, 'You must not speak evil of a ruler of your people.'"*

¹⁷ Therefore I have a reason for boasting in Christ Jesus regarding the things concerning God. ¹⁸ For I will not dare to speak about anything except that which Christ has accomplished through me, resulting in the obedience of the Gentiles by word and deed, ¹⁹ by the power of signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit,* so that from Jerusalem and traveling around as far as Illyricum I have fully proclaimed the gospel of Christ.

⁷ So then, neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but God who is causing it to grow.

²⁶ Be angry and do not sin;* do not let the sun set on your anger,

² For we all stumble in many ways. If anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect individual,* able to hold in check his whole body also.

⁶ Look, I will be standing before you there on the rock in Horeb, and you will strike the rock, and water will come out from it, and the people will drink."
And Moses did so before the eyes of the elders of Israel.

¹ And Aaron's sons Nadab and Abihu each took his censer, and they put fire in them and placed incense on it;* then* they presented _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh illegitimate fire, which he had not commanded them.

⁸ "Take the staff and summon the community, you and Aaron your brother, and speak to the rock before their eyes, and it will give water. Bring out for them water from the rock, and let the community and their livestock drink."

¹³ When Samuel came to Saul, Saul said to him, "May you be blessed by Yahweh! I have kept the word of Yahweh." ¹⁴ But Samuel said, "Then what is this bleating of the sheep that I hear in my ears and the lowing of the cattle that I am hearing?"

¹⁹ Why did you not listen to the voice of Yahweh and fall with shouting on the plunder? You have done evil in the sight of Yahweh!"

²⁴ Then Saul said to Samuel, "I have sinned because I have transgressed _⌊the commandment of Yahweh_⌋* and your words, for I feared the troops and I listened to their voice.

²¹ He proclaimed to the man of God who came from Judah, saying, "Thus says Yahweh: 'Because you have disobeyed the word of Yahweh and have not kept the command which Yahweh your God commanded you, ²² but you have returned and have eaten food and drank water in the place which he ordered you not to eat food nor to drink water, then your dead body shall not return to the tomb of your ancestors.'"* ²³ It happened after he ate food and drank water that he saddled the donkey for the prophet whom he had brought back. ²⁴ When he left, a lion found him on the road and killed him, and his dead body was thrown on the road with the donkey standing beside it, and the lion was standing by the dead body.

⁹ And when they came to the threshing floor of Kidon, Uzza reached out his hand to hold the ark because the cattle had stumbled. ¹⁰ And Yahweh _⌊was angry_⌋* with Uzza, and he struck him down because he reached his hand upon the ark. And he died there before God.

² Then David ordered that none except the Levites should carry the ark of God, for Yahweh had chosen them to carry the ark of Yahweh and to serve him forever.

¹³ Because the first time you did not, and Yahweh our God burst out against us, for we did not care for it according to the law."

¹⁶ And he brought streams out of the rock and caused water to flow down like rivers.

⁵ I fed you* in the desert, in the land of drought.

²⁰ teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you, and behold, I am with you all the days until the end of the age."

⁴ and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual rock that followed them, and the rock was Christ.

²⁰ for human* anger does not accomplish the righteousness of God.

³ Therefore* Moses said to Aaron, "This is what Yahweh spoke, saying, 'Among those who are close to me I will show myself holy, and _⌊in the presence of_⌋* all the people I will display my glory.'"* So* Aaron was silent.

¹⁵ If this is how you are going to treat me, please kill me immediately if I find favor in your eyes, and do not let me see my misery."

²¹ But Moses said, "There are six hundred thousand on foot, among whom I am in the midst, and you yourself said, 'I will give meat to them, and they will eat for a whole month.' ²² Should flocks and cattle be slaughtered for them? Should all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, to be enough for them?"

²⁴ "Let Aaron be gathered to his people; he will not come into the land that I have given to the _⌊Israelites_⌋* because you rebelled against _⌊my word_⌋* at the waters of Meribah.

³⁷ Even with me Yahweh was angry because of you, saying, 'Not even you shall enter there.

²³ "And I pleaded with Yahweh at that time, saying, ²⁴ 'Lord Yahweh, you have begun to show your servant your greatness and your strong hand, for what* god is there in the heaven or on the earth who can do according to your works and according to your mighty deeds? ²⁵ Let me cross over, please, and let me see the good land _⌊that is beyond the Jordan_⌋,* this good hill country and Lebanon.' ²⁶ But Yahweh was very angry with me because of you, and he would not listen to me, and Yahweh said, '_⌊Enough of that from you_⌋!* You shall not speak to me any longer about this matter! ²⁷ Go up to the top of Pisgah and _⌊look around you_⌋* toward the west, toward the north, and toward the east, and _⌊view_⌋* the land with your eyes, for you will not cross this Jordan.

⁴⁹ "Go up to this mountain of the Abarim range, Mount Nebo, which is _⌊opposite Jericho_⌋,* and see the land of Canaan that I am giving to the _⌊Israelites_⌋* as a possession. ⁵⁰ You shall die on that mountain that you are about to go up there, and you will be gathered to your people, just as your brother Aaron died on _⌊Mount Hor_⌋* and he was gathered to his people, ⁵¹ because of the fact that you broke faith with me in the midst of Israel at the waters of Meribah Kadesh, in the desert of Zin, because _⌊you did not treat me as holy_⌋* in the midst of the _⌊Israelites_⌋.*

⁴ And Yahweh said to him, "This is the land that I swore to Abraham to Isaac and to Jacob, _⌊saying_⌋,* 'To your offspring I will give it.' I have let you see it with your eyes, but you shall not cross _⌊into it_⌋."*

² "My servant Moses is dead. Get up and cross the Jordan, you and all this people, into the land that I am giving to them, to the _⌊Israelites_⌋.*

²⁰ And they rose up early in the morning and went out to the desert of Tekoa. And when they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, "Hear me, O Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem! Believe in Yahweh your God, and you shall be established! Believe in his prophets, and you shall succeed!"

⁹ And the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is the son of Remaliah. If you do not believe then you will not endure." '"

¹³ You shall regard Yahweh of hosts as holy, and he is your* fear, and he is your dread.

⁴¹ I will accept you as _⌊a fragrant incense offering_⌋* when I bring you out from the peoples and I gather you from the lands to which you were scattered, and I will show myself holy among you before the eyes of the nations.

²³ And I will consecrate my great name, which was profaned among the nations and which you have profaned in the midst of them, and the nations will know that I am Yahweh!" ' a declaration of the Lord Yahweh, _⌊when I show myself holy_⌋* _⌊before_⌋* their eyes.

¹⁰ " 'Thus says the Lord Yahweh: "_⌊And then_⌋* on that day, things* will come up on* your mind, and you will devise evil plans.

¹⁷ And Jesus answered and* said, "O unbelieving and perverse generation! _⌊How long_⌋* will I be with you? _⌊How long_⌋* must I put up with you? Bring him here to me!"

²⁰ And he said to them, "Because of your little faith. For truly I say to you, if you have faith like a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you."*

²⁰ And behold, you will be silent and not able to speak until the day these things take place, _⌊because_⌋* you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their time."

⁴⁵ And blessed is she who believed that there will be a fulfillment to what was spoken to her from the Lord!"

¹⁷ For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came about through Jesus Christ.

²⁰ And he did not waver in unbelief at the promise of God, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God

¹⁵ but set Christ apart as Lord in your hearts, always ready to make a defense to anyone who asks you for an accounting concerning the hope that is in you.

⁷ And he called the name of the place Massah and Meribah because of the quarrel of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* and because of their testing Yahweh by saying, "Is Yahweh in our midst or not?"

⁸ And of Levi he said, "Your Thummim and your Urim are for _⌊your faithful one_⌋,* _⌊whom you tested at Massah_⌋;* you contended with him at the waters of Meribah.

⁸ "Do not harden your heart as at Meribah, as in the day of Massah in the wilderness,

³² They also angered God at the waters of Meribah, and it went badly for Moses on account of them, ³³ because they rebelled against his Spirit,* and he spoke thoughtlessly with his lips. ³⁴ They did not exterminate the peoples, as Yahweh had commanded them, * ³⁵ but they mingled with the nations and learned their works, ³⁶ and served their idols, which became* a snare to them. ³⁷ They even sacrificed their sons and daughters to the demons, ³⁸ and they poured out innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan, and so the land was defiled with the blood.* ³⁹ And they became unclean by their works, and were unfaithful in their deeds. ⁴⁰ So Yahweh's anger burned against his people, and he abhorred his inheritance. ⁴¹ Then he gave them into the hand of the nations, and those who hated them ruled over them. ⁴² And their enemies oppressed them, and they were subdued under their hand. ⁴³ Many times he delivered them, but they rebelled in their counsel, and were brought low by their iniquity. ⁴⁴ Yet he looked upon their distress when he heard their cry. ⁴⁵ And he remembered his covenant with them, and relented based on the abundance of his loyal love. ⁴⁶ And he _⌊let them find compassion_⌋* before all their captors. ⁴⁷ Save us, O Yahweh our God, and gather us from the nations, so that we may give thanks to your holy name and boast in your praise. ⁴⁸ Blessed is Yahweh, the God of Israel, from everlasting and to everlasting. And let all the people say, "Amen!" Praise Yah.*

¹⁶ But Yahweh of hosts is exalted by justice, and the holy God shows himself holy by righteousness.

¹⁶ and you will advance against my people Israel like a cloud _⌊covering_⌋* the land; it will be* in the last days, and I will bring you against my land, so that the nations know me, _⌊when I show myself holy through you_⌋ before their eyes, O Gog!" '

³ Then Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother, to the land of Seir, the territory of Edom. ⁴ And he instructed them, saying, "Thus you must say to my lord, to Esau, 'Thus says your servant Jacob, I have dwelled as an alien with Laban, and I have remained there until now.

³¹ Now these are the kings who reigned in the land of Edom before any king ruled over the _⌊Israelites_⌋.* ³² Bela the son of Beor reigned in Edom. And the name of his city was Dinhabah. ³³ And Bela died, and Jobab, the son of Zerah from Bozrah, reigned in his place. ³⁴ And Jobab died, and Husham from the land of the Temanites reigned in his place. ³⁵ And Husham died, and Hadad, son of Bedad, who defeated Midian in the field* of Moab reigned in his place. And the name of his city was Avith. ³⁶ And Hadad died, and Samlah from Masrekah reigned in his place. ³⁷ And Samlah died, and Shaul from Rehoboth on the Euphrates* reigned in his place. ³⁸ And Shaul died, and Baal-Hanan, the son of Acbor, reigned in his place. ³⁹ And Baal-Hanan the son of Acbor died, and Hadar reigned in his place. And the name of his city was Pau, and the name of his wife was Mehetabel, the daughter of Matred, daughter of Mezahab.

⁸ And Moses told his father-in-law all that Yahweh had done to Pharaoh and to Egypt on account of Israel, all the hardship that had found them on the way, and how Yahweh delivered them.

⁴ and instruct* the people, _⌊saying_⌋,* "You are about to cross through the territory of your brothers, the descendants* of Esau, who are living in Seir; they will be afraid of you, and so be very careful. ⁵ Do not get involved in battle* with them, for I will not give you any of their land, not even _⌊a foot's breadth_⌋* of it; since I have given Mount Seir as a possession for Esau. ⁶ You shall buy food from them so that you may eat; and also you shall purchase water from them with money so that you may drink. ⁷ The fact of the matter is, Yahweh your God has blessed you in _⌊all the work you have done_⌋;* he knows _⌊your travels_⌋* with respect to this great wilderness; forty years Yahweh your God has been with you; you have not lacked a thing." ' ⁸ And so we passed by our brothers, the descendants* of Esau, who live in Seir, past the road of the Arabah,* from Elath and Ezion Geber, and we turned and traveled along the route of the desert* of Moab. ⁹ And Yahweh said to me, 'You shall not attack Moab, and you shall not engage in war* with them, for I will not give you any of his land as a possession; I have given Ar to the descendants* of Lot as a possession.' ¹⁰ (The Emim previously lived in it, a people large,* numerous, and tall, like the Anakites. ¹¹ They were reckoned also as Rephaim as the Anakites were; but the Moabites called them Emim. ¹² The Horites previously lived in Seir, but the descendants* of Esau dispossessed them and destroyed them _⌊from among themselves_⌋,* as Israel did with respect to the land of their* possession that Yahweh gave to them.) ¹³ So now arise and cross over the wadi* of Zered yourselves; and so we crossed the wadi* of Zered. ¹⁴ Now the _⌊length of time_⌋* that we had traveled from Kadesh Barnea until the time when we crossed the wadi* of Zered was thirty-eight years, until the perishing of all of that generation; that is, the men of war from the midst of the camp as Yahweh had sworn to them. ¹⁵ The hand of Yahweh was against them to root them out from the midst of the camp until they perished completely. ¹⁶ "_⌊And then_⌋* when all the men of war* _⌊had died_⌋* from among the people, ¹⁷ Yahweh spoke to me, _⌊saying_⌋,* ¹⁸ 'You are about to cross over the boundary of Moab _⌊today_⌋* at Ar. ¹⁹ When you approach _⌊the border of_⌋* the _⌊Ammonites_⌋,* you shall not harass them, and you shall not get involved in battle with them, for I have not given the land of _⌊the Ammonites_⌋* to you as a possession; because I have given it to the descendants* of Lot as a possession. ²⁰ (It is also considered the land of Rephaim; Rephaim lived in it _⌊previously_⌋,* and the Ammonites called them Zamzummim, ²¹ a people great and numerous and as tall as the Anakites; Yahweh destroyed them from before them,* and they dispossessed them and settled in place of them, ²² just as he did for the descendants* of Esau, who live in Seir, when he destroyed the Horites from _⌊before them_⌋* and dispossessed them, and then they settled in their* place up to this day. ²³ And also the Avvites, who lived in villages as far as Gaza, and the Caphtorim, who came out from Caphtor, destroyed them and then settled in their place. ²⁴ Arise,* set out and cross over the wadi* of Arnon. Look! I have given Sihon the Amorite, the king of Heshbon, and his land into your hand; begin to take possession of it, and engage with him in battle. ²⁵ This day I will begin to place _⌊the dread of you_⌋* and the fear of you _⌊before_⌋* the peoples under all the heavens. They will hear _⌊the report about you_⌋,* and so they will shake and tremble _⌊because of you_⌋.' *

⁷ "You shall not abhor an Edomite, because he is your brother; you shall not abhor an Egyptian because you were an alien in his land.

⁹ And they said to him, "Your servants have come from a very far land because of the name of Yahweh your God; we have heard of his reputation, of all that he did in Egypt,

¹⁶ because when they came up from Egypt, Israel went through the wilderness to the _⌊Red Sea_⌋* and went to Kadesh. ¹⁷ Israel sent messengers to the king of Edom, saying, "Please let us cross through your land," but the king of Edom would not listen. And they also sent messengers to the king of Moab, but he was not willing. So Israel stayed in Kadesh.

¹⁰ "Because of the violence done to your brother Jacob, shame will cover you and you will be cut off forever. ¹¹ On _⌊the day you stood nearby_⌋,* _⌊on the day strangers took_⌋* his wealth, and foreigners entered his gates and cast lots over Jerusalem, you were also like one of them. ¹² But you should not have gloated* over your brother's day, on the day of his misfortune, and you should not have rejoiced over the _⌊people_⌋* of Judah on the day of their perishing, and you should not have opened your mouth wide on the day of distress.

² "I have loved you," says Yahweh, but you say, "How have you loved us?" "Is Esau not Jacob's brother?" _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh. "I have loved Jacob,

¹³ And he said to Abram, "_⌊You must surely know_⌋* that your descendants shall be as aliens in a land _⌊not their own_⌋.* And they shall serve them* and they* shall oppress them four hundred years.

⁶ And they took their livestock and their possessions that they had acquired in the land of Canaan. And they came to Egypt, Jacob and all his offspring with him,

¹¹ And they appointed commanders of forced labor over them in order to oppress them with their _⌊forced labor_⌋,* and they built storage cities for Pharaoh—Pithom and Rameses. ¹² And as he oppressed them, so they became many, and so they spread out, and the Egyptians were afraid because of the presence of the _⌊Israelites_⌋.* ¹³ And the Egyptians ruthlessly compelled the _⌊Israelites_⌋* to work. ¹⁴ And they made their lives bitter with hard work with mortar and with bricks and with all sorts of work in the field—with all their work in which they ruthlessly enslaved them.

¹⁶ and he said, "When you help the Hebrews give birth, you will look upon the pairs of testicles; if he is a son, you will put him to death, and if she is a daughter, she will live."

²² And Pharaoh commanded all his people, saying, "Every son who is born you will throw into the Nile, and every daughter you will let live."

¹⁴ And the foremen of the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* whom Pharaoh's slave drivers had appointed over them, were beaten by men who were saying, "Why have you not completed your portion of brickmaking _⌊as before, both yesterday and today_⌋?"*

⁴⁰ And the period of dwelling of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* that they dwelled in Egypt was four hundred and thirty years.

¹³ Is it too little that you have brought us from a land that flows with milk and honey to kill us in the desert, and that you also appoint yourself as a ruler over us?

⁶ And the Egyptians treated us badly, and they oppressed us and imposed on us hard labor.

¹⁵ And Jacob went down to Egypt and died, he and our fathers.

¹⁹ This man deceitfully took advantage of our* people and* mistreated our ancestors, _⌊causing them to abandon their infants_⌋* so that they would not be kept alive.

²³ _⌊And then_⌋* during those many days, the king of Egypt died, and the _⌊Israelites_⌋* groaned because of the work, and they cried out, and their cry for help because of the work went up to God. ²⁴ And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob,

² And the angel of Yahweh appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush, and he looked, and there was the bush burning with fire, but the bush was not being consumed. ³ And Moses said, "Let me turn aside and see this great sight. Why does the bush not burn up?" ⁴ And Yahweh saw that he turned aside to see, and God called to him from the midst of the bush, and he said, "Moses, Moses." And he said, "Here I am." ⁵ And he said, "You must not come near to here. Take off your sandals from on your feet, because the place on which you are standing, it is holy ground." ⁶ And he said, "I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob." And Moses hid his face because he was afraid of looking at God. ⁷ And Yahweh said, "Surely I have seen the misery of my people who are in Egypt, and I have heard their cry of distress because of their oppressors, for I know their sufferings. ⁸ And I have come down to deliver them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up from this land to a good and wide land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanites* and the Hittites* and the Amorites* and the Perizzites* and the Hivites* and the Jebusites.* ⁹ And now, look, the cry of distress of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* has come to me, and also I see the oppression with which the Egyptians are oppressing them.

⁵ but also I myself heard the groaning of the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* whom the Egyptians are making to work, and I remembered my covenant.

¹⁰ And Pharaoh approached, and the _⌊Israelites_⌋* lifted their eyes, and there were the Egyptians traveling after them! And they were very afraid, and the _⌊Israelites_⌋* cried out to Yahweh.

¹⁹ And the angel of God who was going before the camp of Israel set out and went behind them. And the column of cloud set out ahead of them, and it stood still behind them,

²⁰ " 'Look, I am about to send an angel before you to guard you on the way and to bring you to the place that I have prepared.

² And I will send an angel before you, and I will drive out the Canaanites,* the Amorites,* and the Hittites* and the Perizzites,* the Hivites,* and the Jebusites,*

¹ The Canaanite king of Arad, who was dwelling in the Negev,* heard that Israel came along the way of Atharim; he fought against Israel and took some of them captive.

²² "Let us go through your land; we will not turn aside into a field or vineyard; we will not drink well water along the way of the king until we have gone through your territory." ²³ But Sihon did not allow Israel to go through his territory. Sihon gathered all his people and went out to meet Israel; he came to the desert, to Jahaz, and he fought against Israel. ²⁴ But Israel struck him with the edge of the sword, and they took possession of his land from Arnon to Jabbok, until the _⌊Ammonites_⌋,* because the boundary of the _⌊Ammonites_⌋* was strong.

¹ "Then we turned and set out toward the wilderness* in the direction of the _⌊Red Sea_⌋,* as Yahweh told me, and we went around Mount Seir for many days. ² Yahweh spoke to me, _⌊saying_⌋,* ³ 'Long enough you have been skirting this mountain; turn yourselves north, ⁴ and instruct* the people, _⌊saying_⌋,* "You are about to cross through the territory of your brothers, the descendants* of Esau, who are living in Seir; they will be afraid of you, and so be very careful.

²⁷ 'Let me cross through your land and _⌊only along the road_⌋* I will go; I will not turn aside to the right or to the left.

²⁹ Just as the descendants* of Esau did for me, who live in Seir, and the Moabites, who live in Ar, until I cross the Jordan into the land that Yahweh our God is giving to us.'

³⁸ And also a _⌊mixed multitude_⌋* went up with them and sheep and goats and cattle, very numerous livestock.

⁶ You shall buy food from them so that you may eat; and also you shall purchase water from them with money so that you may drink.

²⁸ Food for money you shall sell me, so that I may eat, and water for money you will give to me, so that I may drink; just let me cross on foot.

⁴¹ Then Esau held a grudge against Jacob on account of the blessing with which his father had blessed him. And Esau said in his heart,* "The days of mourning for my father are coming, then I will kill Jacob my brother."

⁶ And the messengers returned to Jacob and said, "We came to your brother, to Esau, and he is coming to meet you, and four hundred men are with him."

¹⁸ Then Edom said to him, "You will not pass through us* lest _⌊we will go out_⌋* to meet you with the sword."

¹⁷ Israel sent messengers to the king of Edom, saying, "Please let us cross through your land," but the king of Edom would not listen. And they also sent messengers to the king of Moab, but he was not willing. So Israel stayed in Kadesh.

²⁰ But Sihon did not trust Israel to cross through his territory, so Sihon gathered all his people and then encamped at Jahaz; and he made war with Israel.

⁷ I am for peace, but when I speak, they are for war.

⁵ because there has been to you _⌊an ancient hostility_⌋,* and you handed over the _⌊Israelites_⌋* to the power of the sword at the time of their disaster, at the time of _⌊their final punishment_⌋.* ⁶ Therefore _⌊as I live_⌋,"* _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh, "Certainly to blood guilt I will prepare you and blood* will pursue; _⌊since_⌋* _⌊you did not hate blood_⌋,* it will pursue you. ⁷ And I will make the mountain of Seir into a desolation and ruin, and I will cut off from it both he who is crossing over and he who is returning. ⁸ And I will fill its mountains with its slain; your hills and your valleys and all of your watercourses, the slain by the sword will fall in them. ⁹ _⌊An everlasting desolation_⌋* I will make you, and your cities will not return, and you will know that I am Yahweh. ¹⁰ I do this because of your saying,* 'The two nations and the two lands, they will be _⌊mine_⌋,* and we will take possession of it,' and yet Yahweh was there. ¹¹ Therefore, _⌊as I live_⌋,"* _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh, "so I will deal with you according to your anger and according to your jealousy that you did,* because of your hatred against them, and I will make myself known among them when I judge you.

¹¹ Thus says Yahweh: "For three transgressions of Edom and for four I will not revoke the punishment,* because he pursued his brother with the sword! He stifled his compassion and his anger tore them apart _⌊continually_⌋,* and he kept his rage forever.

¹⁰ "Because of the violence done to your brother Jacob, shame will cover you and you will be cut off forever. ¹¹ On _⌊the day you stood nearby_⌋,* _⌊on the day strangers took_⌋* his wealth, and foreigners entered his gates and cast lots over Jerusalem, you were also like one of them. ¹² But you should not have gloated* over your brother's day, on the day of his misfortune, and you should not have rejoiced over the _⌊people_⌋* of Judah on the day of their perishing, and you should not have opened your mouth wide on the day of distress. ¹³ You should not have entered the gate of my people on the day of their disaster. You also should not have gloated over his misery on the day of his disaster, and you should not have stretched out your hands on the day of his disaster. ¹⁴ And you should not have stood at the crossroads to cut off his fugitives and you should not have handed over his survivors on the day of distress. ¹⁵ "For the day of Yahweh is near against all the nations! Just as you have done, it will be done to you. Your deeds will return on your own head.

⁴ and instruct* the people, _⌊saying_⌋,* "You are about to cross through the territory of your brothers, the descendants* of Esau, who are living in Seir; they will be afraid of you, and so be very careful. ⁵ Do not get involved in battle* with them, for I will not give you any of their land, not even _⌊a foot's breadth_⌋* of it; since I have given Mount Seir as a possession for Esau. ⁶ You shall buy food from them so that you may eat; and also you shall purchase water from them with money so that you may drink. ⁷ The fact of the matter is, Yahweh your God has blessed you in _⌊all the work you have done_⌋;* he knows _⌊your travels_⌋* with respect to this great wilderness; forty years Yahweh your God has been with you; you have not lacked a thing." ' ⁸ And so we passed by our brothers, the descendants* of Esau, who live in Seir, past the road of the Arabah,* from Elath and Ezion Geber, and we turned and traveled along the route of the desert* of Moab.

¹⁸ Then they traveled through the wilderness, went around the land of Edom and Moab, and came to _⌊the east_⌋* side of the land of Moab, and they* encamped beyond the Arnon; and they did not go into the territory of Moab because the Arnon was the border of Moab.

²⁴ Do you not possess what Chemosh your god gave you to possess? Whoever Yahweh our God has driven out before us, we will possess it.

²⁶ And they came* to Moses and Aaron and to the entire community of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* in the desert of Paran at Kadesh; they brought back word to them and to all the community, and they showed them the fruit of the land.

¹ Then the entire community of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* came to the desert of Zin on the first month, and the people stayed in Kadesh; Miriam died and was buried there.

¹⁴ From Kadesh Moses sent messengers to the king of Edom: "Thus your brother Israel has said, 'You know all the hardship that has found us;

⁴ They set out from Mount Hor by the way of the _⌊Red Sea_⌋* to go around the land of Edom; but _⌊the people became impatient_⌋* along the way.

³⁶ They set out from Ezion Geber and camped in the desert of Zin, that is, Kadesh. ³⁷ They set out from Kadesh and camped at Mount Hor, at the edge of the land of Edom. ³⁸ Aaron the priest went up to Mount Hor at the _⌊command_⌋* of Yahweh, and he died there in the fortieth year after the _⌊Israelites_⌋* had gone out from the land of Egypt, in the fifth month on the first day of the month.

⁷ Your northern border will be from the Great Sea;* you will make a boundary from the Great Sea* to Mount Hor.

¹⁹ _⌊And on the south side the border_⌋* will run from Tamar up to the waters of Meribot Kadesh and along the wadi* to the Great Sea.* And this is _⌊the boundary to the south_⌋.*

²⁸ and next to the territory of Gad, to the side of the south, _⌊southward_⌋;* and the territory will be from Tamar to the waters of Meribath Kadesh, toward the wadi,* on to the Great Sea.*

³⁷ They set out from Kadesh and camped at Mount Hor, at the edge of the land of Edom.

¹⁵ And as for you, you shall go to your ancestors* in peace; you shall be buried in a good old age.

⁸ And Abraham passed away and died in a good old age, old and full of years. And he was gathered to his people.

¹⁷ Now these are the years of the life of Ishmael: 137 years. And he passed away and died, and was gathered to his people.

²⁹ And Isaac passed away and died, and was gathered to his people, old and full of days. And his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.

²⁹ Then he instructed them and said to them, "I am about to be gathered to my people. Bury me among my ancestors* in the cave that is in the field of Ephron the Hittite,

³³ When Jacob finished instructing his sons he drew his feet up to the bed. Then he took his last breath and was gathered to his people.

²⁷ And all the work of the descendants* of the Gershonites* will be at _⌊the command_⌋* of Aaron and his sons, for all they are to carry and for all their work, and you will appoint to them responsibility for all they are to carry.

¹⁰ and Moses and Aaron summoned the assembly to the presence of the rock, and he said to them, "Please listen, you rebels; can we bring out water for you from this rock?" ¹¹ Then Moses lifted up his hand and struck the rock with his staff twice. And abundant water went out, and the community and their livestock drank. ¹² But Yahweh said to Moses and Aaron, "Because you have not trusted in me, to regard me as holy _⌊in the sight of_⌋* the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* you will not bring this assembly into the land that I have given to them."

¹³ When you see it, you will be gathered to your people, just as Aaron your brother was gathered,

² "Seek vengeance for the _⌊Israelites_⌋* on the Midianites; afterward you will be gathered to your people."

⁵⁰ You shall die on that mountain that you are about to go up there, and you will be gathered to your people, just as your brother Aaron died on _⌊Mount Hor_⌋* and he was gathered to his people,

¹⁰ Moreover, that entire generation was gathered to their* ancestors,* and another generation grew up after them who did not know Yahweh or the work he had done for Israel.*

²⁸ 'Behold, I will gather you to your ancestors,* and you will be gathered to your grave in peace. Your eyes will not see any of the disaster that I am bringing upon this place.'" '"

³⁸ Aaron the priest went up to Mount Hor at the _⌊command_⌋* of Yahweh, and he died there in the fortieth year after the _⌊Israelites_⌋* had gone out from the land of Egypt, in the fifth month on the first day of the month. ³⁹ Aaron was one hundred and twenty-three years old when he died on Mount Hor.

²⁹ "And the holy garments that are for Aaron will be for his sons after him in which to anoint them and _⌊to ordain them_⌋.* ³⁰ Seven days the priest who replaces him from among his sons will wear them, who comes to the tent of assembly to serve in the sanctuary.

²¹ and I will clothe him with your tunic, and I will bind your sash firmly about him, and I will put your authority into his hand, and he shall be like a father to the inhabitants* of Jerusalem and to the house of Judah. ²² And I will put the key of the house of David on his shoulder, and he shall open and no one will be able to shut; and he shall shut and no one will be able to open.

¹¹ Thus if perfection was through the Levitical priesthood, for on the basis of it the people received the law, what further need is there for another priest to arise according to the order of Melchizedek and not said to be according to the order of Aaron?

²³ And indeed many _⌊have become_⌋* priests, because they were prevented by death from continuing in office, ²⁴ but he, because he continues _⌊forever_⌋*, holds the priesthood permanently.

²⁶ Strip off Aaron's garments, and put them on Eleazar his son; Aaron will be gathered to his people, and he will die there."

¹⁶ "Let Yahweh, the God of the spirits of all flesh, appoint a man over the community ¹⁷ who will go out before them and will come in before them, and who will lead them out and bring them in, so the community of Yahweh will not be like a flock that does not have a shepherd." ¹⁸ Then Yahweh said to Moses, "Take Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit, and place your hand on him. ¹⁹ Have him stand before Eleazar the priest and before the entire community, and _⌊commission him_⌋* _⌊in their sight_⌋.* ²⁰ You will give to him from your authority so that the entire community of Israel will _⌊obey him_⌋.* ²¹ He will stand before Eleazar the priest, who will ask for him by the decision* of the Urim before Yahweh. On _⌊his command_⌋* they will go out, and at _⌊his command_⌋* they will come in, both he and all of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* with him, the entire community." ²² Moses did just as Yahweh commanded him, and he took Joshua and set him before Eleazar the priest and before the entire community. ²³ And he placed his hands on him and _⌊commissioned him_⌋* just as Yahweh spoke by the hand of Moses.*

³⁸ Aaron the priest went up to Mount Hor at the _⌊command_⌋* of Yahweh, and he died there in the fortieth year after the _⌊Israelites_⌋* had gone out from the land of Egypt, in the fifth month on the first day of the month. ³⁹ Aaron was one hundred and twenty-three years old when he died on Mount Hor. ⁴⁰ Now the Canaanite, the king of Arad, who was living in the Negev* in the land of Canaan, heard of the coming of the _⌊Israelites_⌋.* ⁴¹ Then they set out from Mount Hor and camped at Zalmonah. ⁴² They set out from Zalmonah and camped at Punon. ⁴³ They set out from Punon and camped at Oboth. ⁴⁴ They set out from Oboth and camped at Iye Abarim, the boundary of Moab. ⁴⁵ They set out from Iyim and camped at Dibon Gad. ⁴⁶ They set out from Dibon Gad and camped at Almon-Diblatayim. ⁴⁷ They set out from Almon-Diblatayim and camped in the mountains of Abarim, before Nebo. ⁴⁸ They set out from the mountains of Abarim and camped on the desert-plateau of Moab by the Jordan across Jericho. ⁴⁹ They camped by the Jordan, from Beth-Jeshimoth up to Abel Shittim, on the desert-plateau of Moab.

⁶ "And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* journeyed from the wells of Bene-Yaqan to Moserah; there Aaron died and was buried, and Eleazar, his son, served as a priest in place of him.

⁷ Then Moses summoned Joshua, and he said to him _⌊in the presence of all Israel_⌋,* "Be strong and be courageous, for you will go with this people into the land that Yahweh swore to their ancestors* to give to them, and you will give it to them as an inheritance. ⁸ Yahweh is the one going _⌊before you_⌋;* he will be with you, and he will not leave you alone, and he will not forsake you; you shall not be afraid, and you shall not be discouraged."

⁴⁹ "Go up to this mountain of the Abarim range, Mount Nebo, which is _⌊opposite Jericho_⌋,* and see the land of Canaan that I am giving to the _⌊Israelites_⌋* as a possession. ⁵⁰ You shall die on that mountain that you are about to go up there, and you will be gathered to your people, just as your brother Aaron died on _⌊Mount Hor_⌋* and he was gathered to his people,

⁵ Then Moses, the servant of Yahweh, died there in the land of Moab _⌊according to the command of Yahweh_⌋.*

⁹ Now* Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom because Moses had placed his hands on him, and the _⌊Israelites_⌋* listened to him, and they did as Yahweh had commanded Moses.

¹¹ Now, my son, Yahweh will be with you, that you may succeed and build the house of Yahweh your God as he has spoken concerning you. ¹² Only may Yahweh give to you understanding and insight that he might give you charge over Israel and the keeping of the law of Yahweh your God.

¹⁷ And David commanded all the commanders of Israel to help Solomon his son, saying,

⁵ And from all my sons—for Yahweh has given many sons to me—he has chosen Solomon my son to sit on the throne of the kingdom of Yahweh over Israel. ⁶ And he said to me, 'Solomon your son, he himself shall build my house and my courts, for I have chosen him as a son to myself, and I myself will be as a father to him, ⁷ and I will establish his kingdom forever if _⌊he firmly performs_⌋* my commandments and my judgments as he has to this day.' ⁸ So now in the sight of all Israel, the assembly of Yahweh, and in the hearing of our God, observe and seek all the commandments of Yahweh your God so that you may take possession of this good land and bestow it as an inheritance to your children after you forever." ⁹ "And you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve him with a whole heart and a willing mind, for Yahweh searches all hearts and understands every plan and all thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you abandon him, he will reject you forever.

²⁵ "And now behold, I know that all of you, among whom I went about proclaiming the kingdom, will see my face no more. ²⁶ Therefore I testify to you on this very day that I am guiltless of the blood of all of you,* ²⁷ for I did not shrink from proclaiming to you the whole purpose of God. ²⁸ Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock among which the Holy Spirit has appointed you as overseers, to shepherd the church of God which he obtained through the blood of his own Son.* ²⁹ I know that after my departure fierce wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock.

²⁴ but he, because he continues _⌊forever_⌋*, holds the priesthood permanently. ²⁵ Therefore also he is able to save completely those who draw near to God through him, because he* always lives in order to intercede on their behalf.

¹⁵ And I will also make every effort that you are able at any time, after my departure, _⌊to recall these things to mind_⌋*.

¹⁰ And God called the dry ground "earth," and he called the collection of the waters "seas." And God saw that it was good.

⁸ And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* wept concerning Moses thirty days; finally the days of weeping and mourning for Moses were completed.

²⁴ So his servants took him out of the chariot and transported him in his second chariot and brought him to Jerusalem. And he died and was buried in the burial sites of his ancestors.* And all Judah and Jerusalem mourned over Josiah. ²⁵ And Jeremiah uttered a lament for Josiah, and all the male and female singers have spoken in their laments about Josiah to this day. And they made them a requirement in Israel, and behold, they are written in the laments.

² And devout men buried Stephen and made loud lamentation over him.
