¹ And it happened, the people were like those who _⌊complain of hardship_⌋* _⌊in the hearing_⌋* of Yahweh, and Yahweh _⌊became angry_⌋,* and the fire of Yahweh burned among them, and it consumed the edge of the camp. ² Then the people cried out to Moses, and Moses prayed to Yahweh, and the fire died down. ³ And he called the name of that place Taberah* because the fire of Yahweh burned among them. ⁴ The riff-raff that were in their midst _⌊had a strong desire_⌋;* and the _⌊Israelites_⌋* turned back and also wept, and they said, "Who will feed us meat? ⁵ We remember the fish that we ate in Egypt for nothing, the cucumber, melon, leek, the onions, and the garlic. ⁶ But now _⌊our strength is dried up_⌋;* there is nothing whatsoever except _⌊for the manna before us_⌋."* ⁷ Now the manna was like coriander seed, and its outward appearance was like that of bdellium-gum. ⁸ The people went about and gathered it, and they ground it with mills or crushed it with mortar. Then they boiled it in a pot and made it into bread-cakes; and it tasted like olive oil cakes. ⁹ When the dew came down on the camp at night, the manna came down with it. ¹⁰ Moses heard the people weeping according to their* clans, each at the doorway of their tents. Then _⌊Yahweh became very angry_⌋,* and in the eyes of Moses it was bad. ¹¹ And Moses said to Yahweh, "Why have you brought trouble to your servant? Why have I not found favor in your eyes, that the burdens of all these people have been placed on me? ¹² Did I conceive all these people? If I have fathered them,* that you could say to me, 'Carry them* in your lap, just as a foster-father carries the suckling on the land that you swore an oath to their ancestors?'* ¹³ From where do I have meat to give all these people? They weep before me, saying, 'Give us meat and let us eat!' ¹⁴ I am not able to carry all these people along alone; they are too heavy for me. ¹⁵ If this is how you are going to treat me, please kill me immediately if I find favor in your eyes, and do not let me see my misery." ¹⁶ And Yahweh said to Moses, "Gather for me seventy men from the elders of Israel whom you know are elders of the people and their* officials; take them to the tent of assembly, and they will stand there with you. ¹⁷ I will come down and speak with you there; I will take away from the spirit that is on you, and I will place it on them; and they will bear the burdens of the people with you; you will not bear it alone. ¹⁸ And you will say to the people, 'Sanctify yourselves tomorrow, for you will eat meat because you have wept in the ears of Yahweh, saying, "Who will feed us good meat? It was good for us in Egypt." Yahweh will give to you meat, and you will eat. ¹⁹ You will eat, not one day, or two days, or five days, or ten days, or twenty days, ²⁰ _⌊but for a whole month_⌋,* until it comes out from your nose and becomes as nausea to you; because you have rejected Yahweh, who is in your midst, and you wept before _⌊his presence_⌋,* saying, "Why did we ever leave Egypt?" '" ²¹ But Moses said, "There are six hundred thousand on foot, among whom I am in the midst, and you yourself said, 'I will give meat to them, and they will eat for a whole month.' ²² Should flocks and cattle be slaughtered for them? Should all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, to be enough for them?" ²³ And Yahweh said to Moses, "_⌊Is Yahweh's power limited_⌋?* Now you will see if my word will happen or not." ²⁴ So Moses went out, and he spoke the words of Yahweh to the people, and he gathered together seventy men from the elders of the people, and he _⌊made them stand_⌋* all around the tent. ²⁵ Then Yahweh went down in the cloud and spoke to him, and he took away the spirit that was on him, and he _⌊put it_⌋* on the seventy elders. And as soon as the spirit was resting on them they prophesied, but they did not do it again. ²⁶ But two men were left in the camp; the name of one was Eldad, and the name of the second was Medad, and the spirit rested on them; they were among those who were written down, but they did not go out to the tent, so they prophesied in the camp. ²⁷ So a boy* ran and told Moses and said, "Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp." ²⁸ And Joshua son of Nun, the assistant of Moses from time of his youth, answered, "Moses, my lord, stop them." ²⁹ But Moses said to him, "Are you jealous for my sake? Would that he* give all Yahweh's people prophets, that Yahweh put his spirit on them!" ³⁰ Then Moses and the elders of Israel were gathered to the camp. ³¹ Then a wind set out from Yahweh, and it drove quails from the west, and he spread them out on the camp about a day's journey on one side and about a day's journey on the other, all around the camp, about two cubits on the surface of the land. ³² And so the people _⌊worked_⌋* all day and all night and all the next day, and they gathered the quail (the least of the ones collecting gathered ten homers).* ³³ While the meat was still between their teeth, before it was consumed, Yahweh was angry with the people, and Yahweh struck a very great plague among the people. ³⁴ And he called the name of that place Kibroth Hattaavah* because they buried the people that _⌊were greedy_⌋.* ³⁵ From Kibroth Hattaavah* the people set out to Hazeroth; and they stayed* in Hazeroth.

¹⁰ And what he did was evil in the sight of Yahweh, so he killed him also.

²³ And they came to Marah, and they were not able to drink water from Marah because it was bitter. Therefore _⌊it was named_⌋* Marah. ²⁴ And the people grumbled against Moses, saying, "What shall we drink?"

² And all the community of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* grumbled against Moses and against Aaron in the desert. ³ And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* said to them, "_⌊If only we had died_⌋* by the hand of Yahweh in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots* of meat, when we ate bread _⌊until we were full_⌋,* because you have brought us out to this desert to kill all of this assembly with hunger."

⁷ and in the morning, you will see the glory of Yahweh, _⌊for he hears_⌋* your grumblings against Yahweh, and what are we that you grumble against us?"

⁹ And Moses said to Aaron, "Say to all the community of the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* 'Come near before Yahweh because he has heard your grumblings.'"

² And the people quarreled with Moses, and they said, "Give us water so that we can drink." And Moses said to them, "Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test Yahweh?" ³ And the people thirsted for water, and the people grumbled against Moses and said, "Why _⌊ever_⌋* did you bring us up from Egypt to kill me* and my sons and my cattle with thirst?"

² So* fire went out _⌊from before_⌋* Yahweh, and it consumed them so that* they died _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh.

³³ And so they set out from the mountain of Yahweh a journey of three days, with the ark of the covenant of Yahweh setting out ahead of them* three days' journey to search out a resting place for them;

³⁵ And fire went out from Yahweh, and it consumed the two hundred and fifty men presenting the incense.

² There was no water for the community, and they were gathered before Moses and Aaron. ³ And the people quarreled with Moses and spoke, saying, "If only we died when our brothers were dying _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh! ⁴ Why have you brought the assembly of Yahweh, us and our livestock, into this desert to die here? ⁵ Why have you brought us from Egypt to bring us to this bad place? It is not a place of seed or figs* or vines* or pomegranate trees,* and there is not water to drink."

⁵ The people spoke against God and against Moses, "Why have you brought us from Egypt to die in the desert? There is no food and no water, and our hearts detest this miserable food."

²² "And also at Taberah and at Massah and at Kibroth Hattaavah you provoked Yahweh to anger.

¹⁸ that he met you on the journey and attacked you, all those lagging behind you and when you were weary and worn out, and he did not fear God.

²² For a fire was kindled* by my anger, and it burned _⌊up to the depths of Sheol_⌋,* and it devoured the earth and its produce, and it set afire the foundation of the mountains.

²⁷ When the mourning was over, David sent and brought her to his household, and she became his wife and bore him a son. But the thing which David had done was evil in the eyes of Yahweh.

¹² Then Elijah answered and said to them, "If I am a man of God, then let fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty!" Then the fire of God came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty.

¹⁶ While this one was still speaking, _⌊another_⌋* came and said, "The fire of God fell from the heavens, and it blazed up against the sheep and goats and against the servants, and it consumed them. But I escaped, even I alone, to tell you."

²¹ Therefore Yahweh heard and he was very angry, and a fire was kindled against Jacob, and his anger also rose up against Israel,

¹⁸ Also fire burned in their assembly; the flame devoured the wicked.

³³ For Topheth has been prepared from yesterday; indeed, it is made ready for the king. He makes its pile of wood deep and wide; he makes fire and wood _⌊abundant_⌋.* The breath of Yahweh burns in it like a stream of sulfur.

¹⁴ Sinners are afraid in Zion; trembling has seized the godless: "Who of us can _⌊live_⌋* with devouring fire? Who of us can _⌊live_⌋* with everlasting consuming hearths?"

³⁹ Why should any living person complain about his sin?

⁵ Mountains quake before him; the hills shake apart.* The earth heaves before him— the world and all her inhabitants.

⁴³ And if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off! It is better for you to enter into life crippled than, having two hands, to go into hell—into the unquenchable fire!*

⁴⁵ And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off! It is better for you to enter into life lame than, having two feet, to be thrown into hell!*

⁴⁷ And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out! It is better for you to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye than, having two eyes, to be thrown into hell, ⁴⁸ 'where their worm does not die and the fire is not extinguished.'* ⁴⁹ For everyone will be salted with fire.

¹⁰ nor grumble, just as some of them grumbled, and were destroyed by the destroyer.

²⁹ For indeed our God is a consuming fire.

⁴ Behold, the wages that were held back by you from the workers who reap your fields cry out, and the cries of the reapers have come to the ears of the Lord of hosts.

¹⁶ These people are grumblers, discontented, proceeding according to their* desires, and their mouths speaking pompous words, _⌊showing partiality to gain an advantage_⌋*.

²³ And Abraham drew near to Yahweh and said, "Will you also sweep away the righteous with the wicked? ²⁴ If perhaps there are fifty righteous in the midst of the city, will you also sweep them away and not forgive the place on account of the fifty righteous in her midst? ²⁵ Far be it from you to do such a thing as this, to kill the righteous with the wicked, that* the righteous would be as the wicked! Far be it from you! Will not the Judge of all the earth do justice?" ²⁶ And Yahweh said, "If I find fifty righteous in Sodom, in the midst of the city, then I will forgive the whole place for their sake." ²⁷ Then Abraham answered and said, "Look, please, I was bold to speak to my Lord, but I am dust and ashes. ²⁸ Perhaps the fifty righteous are lacking five—will you destroy the whole city on account of the five?" And he answered, "I will not destroy it if I find forty-five there." ²⁹ And _⌊once again he spoke_⌋* to him and said, "What if* forty are found there?" And he answered, "I will not do it on account of the forty." ³⁰ And he said, "Please, let not my Lord be angry, and I will speak. What if* thirty be found there?" And he answered, "I will not do it if I find thirty there." ³¹ And he said, "Please, now, I was bold to speak to my Lord. What if* twenty be found there?" And he answered, "I will not destroy it for the sake of the twenty." ³² And he said, "Please, let not my Lord be angry, and I will speak only once more. What if* ten are found there?" And he answered, "I will not destroy it for the sake of the ten." ³³ Then Yahweh left,* as he finished speaking to Abraham, and Abraham returned to his place.

¹⁰ And now leave me alone so that _⌊my anger may blaze_⌋* against them, and let me destroy them, and I will make you into a great nation." ¹¹ And Moses _⌊implored Yahweh_⌋* his God, and he said, "Why, Yahweh, should _⌊your anger blaze_⌋* against your people whom you brought up from the land of Egypt with great power and with a strong hand? ¹² Why should the Egyptians _⌊say_⌋*, 'With evil intent he brought them out to kill them in the mountains and wipe them from the face of the earth'?* Turn from _⌊your fierce anger_⌋* and relent concerning the disaster for your people. ¹³ Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, your servants, to whom you swore by yourself, and you told them, 'I will multiply your offspring like the stars of the heavens, and all this land that I promised I will give to your offspring, and they will inherit it forever.'" ¹⁴ And Yahweh relented concerning the disaster that he had _⌊threatened_⌋* to do to his people.

³¹ And Moses returned to Yahweh, and he said, "Alas, this people has sinned a great sin and made for themselves gods of gold. ³² And now if you will forgive their sin—and if not, please blot me from your scroll that you have written."

⁹ And he said, "Please, if I have found favor in your eyes, Lord, let my Lord, please, go among us—indeed it is a stiff-necked people—and forgive our iniquity and our sin and _⌊take us as your possession_⌋."*

¹³ And Moses said to Yahweh, "Then the Egyptians will hear that you brought up this people from their* midst in your power, ¹⁴ and they will _⌊tell it_⌋* to the inhabitants of this land. They heard that you, Yahweh, are in the midst of this people, that you are seen eye to eye, and your cloud is standing over them, and in a column of cloud you go before them by day and in a column of fire at night. ¹⁵ But if you destroy this people _⌊all at once_⌋,* the nations that will have heard your message will say, ¹⁶ 'Yahweh was unable to bring this people in the land that he swore by an oath, and he slaughtered them in the desert.' ¹⁷ But now, please, let the power of my Lord be great, just has you spoke, ¹⁸ 'Yahweh is _⌊slow to anger_⌋* and great of loyal love, _⌊forgiving_⌋* sin and rebellion; but surely he leaves nothing unpunished, visiting the sin of the fathers on the sons to the third and fourth generations.' ¹⁹ Please forgive the sin of this people according to the greatness of your loyal love, just as you _⌊forgave_⌋* this people, from Egypt until now." ²⁰ Yahweh said, "I have forgiven them according to your word;

⁴⁵ "Get away from the midst of this community, and I will finish them in an instant,"* but they fell on their faces. ⁴⁶ And Moses and Aaron said, "Take the censer, and put fire on it from the altar. Place incense on it, and bring it quickly to the community, and make atonement for them, because wrath went out from the presence of Yahweh, and a plague has begun." ⁴⁷ And so Aaron took it just as Moses had spoken, and he ran into the midst of the assembly, for behold, the plague had begun among the people; so he gave the incense and made atonement for the people. ⁴⁸ He stood between the dead and between the living, and the plague was stopped.

⁷ The people came to Moses and said, "We have sinned because we have spoken against Yahweh and against you. Pray to Yahweh and let him remove the snakes* from among us." So Moses prayed for the people.

¹⁹ For _⌊I was in dread_⌋* from being in the presence of the anger and the wrath with which Yahweh was angry with you so as to destroy you, but Yahweh listened to me also _⌊at that time_⌋.* ²⁰ And with Aaron Yahweh was _⌊angry enough_⌋* to destroy him, and I prayed also for Aaron at that time.

³⁴ When he killed some of them, then they sought him, and repented and earnestly sought God. ³⁵ And they remembered that God was their rock, and God Most High their redeemer.

²³ So he said he would exterminate them, had not Moses, his chosen one, stood in the breach before him, to reverse his wrath from destroying them.

⁴ Maybe Yahweh your God heard the words of Rabshakeh whom the king of Assyria, his master, has sent to taunt the living God, and he will rebuke the words that Yahweh your God hears. And you must lift up a prayer for the benefit of the remnant that is found.'"

¹ Then Yahweh said to me, "Even if Moses and Samuel stood _⌊before me_⌋,* my heart would not be to this people. Send them away from my _⌊sight_⌋,* and let them go out.

³ And king Zedekiah sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah, and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, the priest, to Jeremiah the prophet, _⌊saying_⌋,* "Please pray for us to Yahweh our God."

² and said to Jeremiah the prophet, "May our plea please fall _⌊before you_⌋,* and pray for us to Yahweh your God, for all this remnant, for we are left but a few of many, as your eyes are seeing us.

² And then when they* finished eating the vegetation of the land, I said, "O Lord Yahweh, please forgive! How can Jacob stand, because he is small?" ³ Yahweh relented concerning this. "It will not be," said Yahweh. ⁴ This is what my Lord Yahweh showed me, and look, my Lord Yahweh was going to call for a legal case with fire, and it devoured the great deep and it ate up the plots of ground. ⁵ Then I said, "O Lord Yahweh, please stop! How can Jacob stand, because he is small?" ⁶ Yahweh also relented concerning this. "This also will not be," said my Lord Yahweh.

²⁴ But Simon answered and* said, "You pray to the Lord for me so that nothing of what you have said will come upon me."

²⁶ For a high priest such as this indeed is fitting for us, holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners, and having become exalted above the heavens,

¹⁶ Therefore confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous person accomplishes much.

¹ My little children, I am writing these things to you in order that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous one, ² and he* is the propitiation* for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

¹⁶ If anyone should see his brother sinning a sin not leading to death, he should ask, and he will grant life to him, to those who sin not leading to death. (There is a sin leading to death; I do not say that he should ask about that.

³⁸ And also a _⌊mixed multitude_⌋* went up with them and sheep and goats and cattle, very numerous livestock.

¹⁰ And an Israelite woman's son, and he was an Egyptian man's son, went out in the midst of the _⌊Israelites_⌋;* and the Israelite woman's son and an* Israelite man fought in the camp. ¹¹ Then* the Israelite woman's son blasphemed the name, and he cursed, so* they brought him to Moses—and the name of his mother was Shelomith the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan.

³ So it happened when they heard the law* that they separated all of the foreign people from Israel.

¹⁸ And they tested God in their heart by asking food _⌊for their craving_⌋.* ¹⁹ And they spoke against God. They said, "Is God able to prepare a table in the wilderness? ²⁰ Yes, he struck the rock and water flowed and streams gushed out, but can he also give food or provide meat for his people?"

¹⁴ And they _⌊craved intensely_⌋* in the wilderness, and tested God in the desert.

¹⁴ But put on the Lord Jesus Christ and do not make provision for the desires of the flesh.

⁶ Now these things happened as examples for us, so that we should not be desirers of evil things, just as those also desired them,

³³ Do not be deceived! "Bad company corrupts good morals."*

³ And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* said to them, "_⌊If only we had died_⌋* by the hand of Yahweh in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots* of meat, when we ate bread _⌊until we were full_⌋,* because you have brought us out to this desert to kill all of this assembly with hunger."

¹⁴ from men by your hand, O Yahweh, from men of this world. Their share is in _⌊this life_⌋,* and you fill their stomach with your treasure. They are satisfied with children. They bequeath their excess to their children.

¹⁹ whose end is destruction, whose God is the stomach, and whose glory is in their shame, the ones who think on earthly things.

⁴ And he said to him, "Why are you so sullen _⌊every morning_⌋,* O son of the king? Will you not tell me?" And Amnon said to him, "I am in love with Tamar, the sister of my brother Absalom."

¹⁴ And the layer of dew came up, _⌊and there_⌋* on the face of the desert was a fine granular substance, fine like frost on the ground. ¹⁵ And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* saw, and they said _⌊to each other_⌋,* "What is this?" because they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, "That is the bread that Yahweh has given to you as food.

³¹ And the house of Israel called its name "manna." And it was like coriander seed, white, and its taste was like a wafer with honey.

²³ but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a cause for stumbling, but to the Gentiles foolishness, ²⁴ but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God.

¹⁷ The one who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers, I will give to him some of the hidden manna, and I will give to him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written, that no one knows except the one who receives it.'

¹⁶ This is the word that Yahweh commanded, 'Gather from it, _⌊each according to what he can eat_⌋,* an omer per person* according to the number of you.* You each shall take enough for whoever is in his tent.'" ¹⁷ And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* did so, and they gathered, some more and some less. ¹⁸ And when they measured with the omer, the one gathering more had no surplus, and the one gathering less had no lack; they gathered _⌊each according to what he could eat_⌋.*

²³ And he said to them, "This is what Yahweh has said. Tomorrow is a rest period, a holy Sabbath for Yahweh. Bake what you want to bake, and boil what you want to boil. Put aside all the surplus for yourselves for safekeeping until the morning."

²⁷ Do not work for the food that perishes, but the food that remains to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For God the Father has set his seal on this one."

³³ For the bread of God is the one who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world." ³⁴ So they said to him, "Sir, always give us this bread!" ³⁵ Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life. The one who comes to me will never be hungry, and the one who believes in me will never be thirsty again. ³⁶ But I said to you that you have seen me and do not believe. ³⁷ Everyone whom the Father gives to me will come to me, and the one who comes to me I will never throw out, ³⁸ because I have come down from heaven not that I should do my will, but the will of the one who sent me. ³⁹ Now this is the will of the one who sent me: that everyone whom he has given me, I would not lose any of them,* but raise them* up on the last day. ⁴⁰ For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks at the Son and believes in him would have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day." ⁴¹ Now the Jews began to grumble* about him because he said, "I am the bread that came down from heaven," ⁴² and they were saying, "Is this one not Jesus the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How does he now say, 'I have come down from heaven'?" ⁴³ Jesus answered and said to them, "Do not grumble _⌊among yourselves_⌋!* ⁴⁴ No one is able to come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up on the last day. ⁴⁵ It is written in the prophets, 'And they will all be taught by God.'* Everyone who hears from the Father and learns comes to me. ⁴⁶ (Not that anyone has seen the Father except the one who is from God—this one has seen the Father.)* ⁴⁷ Truly, truly I say to you, the one who believes has eternal life. ⁴⁸ I am the bread of life. ⁴⁹ Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness and they died. ⁵⁰ This is the bread that comes down from heaven so that someone may eat from it and not die. ⁵¹ I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats from this bread, he will live _⌊forever_⌋.* And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh." ⁵² So the Jews began to quarrel* _⌊among themselves_⌋,* saying, "How can this man give us his flesh to eat?" ⁵³ Then Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life in yourselves! ⁵⁴ The one who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. ⁵⁵ For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. ⁵⁶ The one who eats* my flesh and drinks my blood resides in me and I in him. ⁵⁷ Just as the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so also the one who eats* me—that one will live because of me. ⁵⁸ This is the bread that came down from heaven, not as the fathers ate and died. The one who eats* this bread will live _⌊forever_⌋."*

¹³ And so it was, in the evening, the quail came up and covered the camp, and in the morning, a layer of dew was all around the camp. ¹⁴ And the layer of dew came up, _⌊and there_⌋* on the face of the desert was a fine granular substance, fine like frost on the ground.

² May my teaching trickle like the dew, my words like rain showers on tender grass, and like spring showers on new growth.

²³ Nevertheless, he commanded the skies above and opened the doors of heaven, ²⁴ and rained down on them manna to eat and gave them the grain of heaven. ²⁵ Humankind ate the bread of _⌊angels_⌋.* He sent them food enough to be satisfied.

⁴⁰ They* asked, and he brought quail, and satisfied them with the bread of heaven.

¹ And it happened, the people were like those who _⌊complain of hardship_⌋* _⌊in the hearing_⌋* of Yahweh, and Yahweh _⌊became angry_⌋,* and the fire of Yahweh burned among them, and it consumed the edge of the camp.

³ Now the man, Moses, was more humble than any other person on the face of the earth,

¹ Then all the community _⌊lifted up their voices_⌋,* and the people wept during that night. ² And all the _⌊Israelites_⌋* grumbled against Moses and Aaron, and all the community said to them, "If only we had died in the land of Egypt or in this desert!

²⁷ And so they moved away from around the dwellings* of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram; and Dathan and Abiram came out standing at the doorway of their tents, with their wives, sons, and little children.

¹⁰ and Moses and Aaron summoned the assembly to the presence of the rock, and he said to them, "Please listen, you rebels; can we bring out water for you from this rock?" ¹¹ Then Moses lifted up his hand and struck the rock with his staff twice. And abundant water went out, and the community and their livestock drank. ¹² But Yahweh said to Moses and Aaron, "Because you have not trusted in me, to regard me as holy _⌊in the sight of_⌋* the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* you will not bring this assembly into the land that I have given to them." ¹³ Those were the waters of Meribah, where the _⌊Israelites_⌋* quarreled with Yahweh, and he showed himself holy among them.

⁵⁹ God heard and he was very angry and rejected Israel utterly.

²⁵ but grumbled in their tents. They did not obey the voice of Yahweh.

³² They also angered God at the waters of Meribah, and it went badly for Moses on account of them, ³³ because they rebelled against his Spirit,* and he spoke thoughtlessly with his lips.

²¹ Do I not hate those who hate you, O Yahweh? And do I not loathe those who rise up against you?

²⁵ Therefore _⌊Yahweh's wrath was kindled_⌋* against his people, and he stretched out his hand against them* and struck them,* and the mountains quaked, and their corpses* were like refuse in the middle of the streets.

⁴ And _⌊you will let go your hand from your inheritance_⌋* that I gave to you, and I will make you serve your enemies in the land that you do not know, for you kindled a fire in my anger, until eternity it will be kindled."

⁵ And looking around at them with anger, grieved at the hardness of their hearts, he said to the man, "Stretch out your* hand." And he stretched it* out, and his hand was restored.

¹⁴ But when* Jesus saw it,* he was indignant, and said to them, "Let the young children come to me. Do not forbid them, _⌊for to such belongs_⌋* the kingdom of God.

²² And Moses returned to Yahweh and said, "Lord, why have you brought trouble to this people? Why ever did you send me?

⁴ And Moses cried out to Yahweh, saying, "What will I do with this people? A little longer and they will stone me."

¹⁵ If this is how you are going to treat me, please kill me immediately if I find favor in your eyes, and do not let me see my misery."

¹² How can I bear you _⌊by myself_⌋,* your burden and your load and your strife?

² I will say to God, 'You should not condemn me; let me know why you contend against me.

³ If you, O Yah,* should _⌊keep track of_⌋* iniquities, O Lord, who could stand?

² And do not enter into judgment with your servant, because no one alive is righteous before you.

¹⁰ Woe to me, O my mother, that you gave birth to me, a man of contention and quarreling _⌊to the whole land_⌋.* I have not lent out and _⌊I have not borrowed_⌋.* All of them are cursing me.

¹⁸ Why is my pain endless, and my wound incurable? It refuses to become healed. Truly you are to me like a deceitful brook, waters that are not trustworthy.

⁷ You have persuaded me, O Yahweh, and I was persuaded. You have overpowered me, and you have prevailed. I have become a laughingstock all day long. _⌊Everyone_⌋* is mocking me. ⁸ For _⌊as often as_⌋* I speak, I must cry out violence and destruction. I must shout, for the word of Yahweh has become for me a disgrace and derision all day long. ⁹ But if I say, "I will not mention him and I will no longer speak in his name," then it becomes in my heart like a fire burning, locked up in my bones, and I struggle to contain it,* and I am not able.

¹⁴ Cursed be the day on which I was born, let not the day on which my mother gave birth to me be blessed. ¹⁵ Cursed be the man who brought the news to my father, _⌊saying_⌋,* "A child is born to you, a son!" and he made him very glad. ¹⁶ And let that man be like the cities that Yahweh demolished without regret, and let him hear a cry for help in the morning, and an alarm at the time of noon. ¹⁷ Because he did not kill me in the womb, so that my mother would have been for me my grave, and her womb would be pregnant forever. ¹⁸ _⌊Why_⌋* did I come out from the womb, to see toil, and sorrow, and to _⌊end my days in shame_⌋?*

²² The loyal love of Yahweh does not cease; his compassions do not come to an end. ²³ They are new in the morning, great is your faithfulness.

³⁹ Why should any living person complain about his sin? ⁴⁰ Let us test and examine our ways; let us return to Yahweh.

¹⁴ You have said, 'It is useless* to serve God! What is the gain if we keep* his requirements, and if we walk as mourners _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh of hosts?

²⁸ Apart from these external things, there is the pressure on me every day of the anxiety about all the churches.

¹⁵ for all the land which you see I will give to you, and to your descendants, forever.

¹⁶ And he said, "I swear by myself, declares Yahweh, that because you have done this thing and have not withheld your son, your only child, ¹⁷ that I will certainly bless you and greatly multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven, and as the sand that is by the shore of the sea. And your offspring will take possession of the gate of his enemies.

³ Dwell as an alien in this land, and I will be with you, and will bless you, for I will give all these lands to you and to your descendants, and I will establish the oath that I swore to Abraham you father.

²⁴ And Joseph said to his brothers, "I am about to die, but God will certainly visit you and bring you up from this land to the land that he swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob."

⁵ And when Yahweh brings you to the land of the Canaanites* and the Hittites* and the Amorites* and the Hivites* and the Jebusites*—which he swore to your ancestors* to give to you, a land flowing with milk and honey—you will perform this service in this month.

¹¹ He will feed his flock like a shepherd; he will gather the lambs in his arm, and he will carry them in his bosom; he will lead those who nurse.

¹⁵ Can a woman forget her suckling, refrain from having compassion on the child of her womb? Indeed, these may forget, but* I, I will not forget you!

²³ And kings shall be your _⌊guardians_⌋,* and their queens your nurses. They shall bow down, _⌊faces_⌋* to the ground, to you, and they will lick up the dust of your feet. Then* you will know that I am Yahweh; those who await me shall not be ashamed.

²³ And I will set up over them one shepherd, and he will feed them; that is, my servant David. He will feed them, and he will be for them as* a shepherd.

¹¹ "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.

¹⁹ My children, for whom I am having birth pains again, until Christ is formed in you!

⁷ _⌊Although we could have insisted on our own importance_⌋** as apostles of Christ, yet we became infants in your midst, like a nursing mother cherishes her own children.

³³ And the disciples said to him, "Where in this desolate place _⌊can we get_⌋* so much bread that such a great crowd could be satisfied?"

⁴ And his disciples answered him, "Where is anyone able to feed these people with bread here in the desert?"

²³ But Jesus said to him, "If you are able! All things are possible for the one who believes!"

⁵ _⌊Then Jesus, when he looked up_⌋* * and saw that a large crowd was coming to him, said to Philip, "Where can we buy bread so that these people can eat?" ⁶ (Now he said this to test him, because he knew what he was going to do.) ⁷ Philip replied to him, "Two hundred denarii worth of bread would not be enough for them, in order that each one could receive a little." ⁸ One of his disciples, Andrew the brother of Simon Peter, said to him, ⁹ "Here is a boy who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are these for so many people?"

¹⁸ Surely you will wear out, both you and this people who are with you, because the thing is too _⌊difficult_⌋* for you. You are not able to do it alone.

⁹ "And I spoke to them at that time, _⌊saying_⌋,* 'I am not able to bear you alone. ¹⁰ Yahweh your God has multiplied you, and look; you are today as the stars of the heaven _⌊in number_⌋.* ¹¹ Yahweh, the God of your ancestors,* may he add to you as you are now a thousand times, and may he bless you just as he _⌊promised you_⌋.* ¹² How can I bear you _⌊by myself_⌋,* your burden and your load and your strife?

¹⁹ Formerly you spoke in a vision to your faithful ones, and said, "I have bestowed help on a mighty man; I have exalted one chosen from the people.

⁶ For a child has been born for us; a son has been given to us. And the dominion will be on his shoulder, and his name is called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

¹³ And he will build the temple of Yahweh, and he will bear majesty and will sit and rule on his throne. And he shall be a priest on his throne, and the counsel of peace will be between the two of them." '*

¹⁶ to those on the one hand an odor from death to death, and to those on the other hand a fragrance from life to life. And who is qualified for these things?

³² And now if you will forgive their sin—and if not, please blot me from your scroll that you have written."

⁴ Then he went into the wilderness one day's journey, and he went and sat under a certain broom tree. Then _⌊he asked Yahweh that he might die_⌋,* and he said, "It is enough now, Yahweh; take my life, for I am no better than my ancestors."*

²⁰ "Why does he* give light to one in misery and life to those bitter of soul, ²¹ who wait for death, but* _⌊it does not come_⌋,* and search* for it more than for treasures, ²² who rejoice _⌊exceedingly_⌋,* and they are glad when they find the grave?

⁸ "_⌊O that_⌋* my request may come, and that God may grant my hope, ⁹ that* God would decide that* he would crush me, that he would let loose his hand and _⌊kill me_⌋.* ¹⁰ But* it will still be my consolation, and I would recoil in _⌊unrelenting_⌋* pain, for I have not denied the words of the Holy One.

¹⁵ So* my inner self* will choose* strangling— death more than my _⌊existence_⌋.*

¹⁸ _⌊Why_⌋* did I come out from the womb, to see toil, and sorrow, and to _⌊end my days in shame_⌋?*

³ And so then, Yahweh, please take my life from me, because for me death is better than life!"

⁸ _⌊And when the sun rose_⌋,* God appointed a scorching east wind, and the sun beat down on Jonah's head and he grew faint. _⌊And he asked that he could die_⌋* and said, "My death is better than my life!" ⁹ So God said to Jonah, "_⌊Is it right for you to be angry_⌋* about the plant?" And he said, "_⌊It is right for me to be angry enough to die_⌋!"*

¹⁵ Yahweh has annulled your judgments; he has turned away your enemies. The king of Israel, Yahweh, is in your midst; you shall no longer fear misfortune.

²⁰ according to my eager expectation and hope, that I will be put to shame in nothing, but with all boldness, even now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether through life or through death. ²¹ For to me to live is Christ and to die is gain. ²² But if it is to live in the flesh, this is fruitful work for me, and which I will prefer I do not know. ²³ But I am hard pressed _⌊between the two options_⌋*, having the desire to depart and to be with Christ, _⌊for this is very much better_⌋*. ²⁴ But to stay on in the flesh is more necessary for your sake.

⁴ And let endurance have its perfect effect, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking in nothing.

²⁷ And the sons of Joseph who were born to him in Egypt were two persons. All the persons of the house of Jacob who came to Egypt were seventy.

²⁹ And Moses and Aaron went, and they gathered all of the elders of the _⌊Israelites_⌋.*

¹ And to Moses he said, "Go up to Yahweh—you and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy from the elders of Israel—and you will worship at a distance.

⁹ And Moses and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy from the elders of Israel went up.

¹⁵ And so I took the leaders of your tribes, wise and knowledgeable men, and then I appointed them as leaders over you as commanders of groups of thousands and commanders of groups of hundreds and commanders of groups of fifties and commanders of groups of tens as officials for your tribes.

¹⁸ "You shall appoint judges and officials for you in all your _⌊towns_⌋* that Yahweh your God is giving to you throughout your tribes, and you shall render for the people _⌊righteous judgments_⌋.*

²⁸ Assemble to me all the elders of your tribes and your officials, so that I may speak in their ears these words, and that I may call as witness against them heaven and earth.

¹¹ And seventy men from the elders of the house of Israel, and Jaazaniah, the son of Shaphan, was standing in the midst of them, and they were standing _⌊before them_⌋.* Each one had his censer in his hand, and the fragrance of the cloud of the incense was going up.

¹ And after these things, the Lord also* appointed seventy-two others and sent them out two by two before _⌊him_⌋* into every town and place where he was about to go.

¹⁷ And the seventy-two returned with joy, saying, "Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!"

⁵ Then* Yahweh came down to see the city and the tower that _⌊humankind_⌋* was building.

³ Then Abram fell upon his face and God spoke with him, saying,

²² When* he finished speaking with him, God went up from Abraham.

²⁰ Then Yahweh said, "Because the outcry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great and because their sin is very _⌊serious_⌋,* ²¹ I will go down and I will see. Have they done altogether according to its cry of distress which has come to me? If not, I will know." ²² And the men turned from there and went toward Sodom. And Abraham was still standing before Yahweh.

³³ Then Yahweh left,* as he finished speaking to Abraham, and Abraham returned to his place.

²² And let them judge the people all the time, _⌊and_⌋* every major issue they will bring to you, and every minor issue they will judge themselves. And so lighten it for yourself, and they will bear it with you.

¹¹ and they must be prepared for the third day, because on the third day, Yahweh will go down on Mount Sinai before the eyes of all the people.

²⁰ And Yahweh went down on Mount Sinai, to the top of the mountain, and Yahweh called Moses to the top of the mountain, and Moses went up.

⁵ And Yahweh descended in the cloud, and he stood with him there, and he proclaimed the name of Yahweh.

²⁵ Then Yahweh went down in the cloud and spoke to him, and he took away the spirit that was on him, and he _⌊put it_⌋* on the seventy elders. And as soon as the spirit was resting on them they prophesied, but they did not do it again.

⁵ And Yahweh went down in a column of cloud and stood at the doorway of the tent, and he called Aaron and Miriam, and the two of them went,

⁸ I will speak to him mouth to mouth, in clearness, not in riddles; and he will look at the form of Yahweh.
Why were you not afraid to speak against my servant, against Moses?"

¹⁸ Then Yahweh said to Moses, "Take Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit, and place your hand on him.

⁶ Then the Spirit of Yahweh will rush upon you,* and you will prophesy with them; and you will turn into _⌊a different person_⌋.*

⁹ After they crossed over, Elijah said to Elisha, "Ask what I may do for you before I am taken away from you." Then Elisha said, "Please let there come to me a double portion of your spirit."

¹⁵ When the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho saw him from the other side, they declared, "The spirit of Elijah rests upon Elisha," and they came to meet him and bowed down to him to the ground.

²⁰ And you gave your good Spirit to instruct them and did not withhold your manna from their mouth and gave them water for their thirst.

³ For I will pour out water on a thirsty land and streams on dry ground. I will pour my spirit out on your descendants* and my blessing on your offspring.

²⁰ "And a redeemer will come to Zion, to those in Jacob who turn away from transgression,"
_⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh. ²¹ "And as for me, this is my covenant with them, says Yahweh:
my spirit that is upon you, and my words that I have placed in your mouth shall not depart from your mouth, or* from the mouths* of your _⌊children_⌋,* or* from the mouths* of _⌊your children's children_⌋,"* says Yahweh, "from now on and forever."

²⁸ * And it will happen afterward thus: I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters will prophesy, and your elders will dream dreams; your young men shall see visions.

¹³ And no one has ascended into heaven except the one who descended from heaven—the Son of Man.

³⁹ Now he said this concerning the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were about to receive. For the Spirit was not yet given,* because Jesus had not yet been glorified.)

³ So, brothers, select from among you seven men _⌊of good reputation_⌋,* full of the Spirit and wisdom, whom we will put in charge of this need. ⁴ But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word."

⁹ But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, this person _⌊does not belong to him_⌋*.

¹² Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, in order that we may know the things freely given to us by God,

⁴ Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit, ⁵ and there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord, ⁶ and there are varieties of activities, but the same God, who works all things in all people. ⁷ But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for what is beneficial to all. ⁸ For to one is given a word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another a word of knowledge by the same Spirit, ⁹ to another faith by the same Spirit, to another* gifts of healing by the one Spirit, ¹⁰ to another* _⌊miraculous powers_⌋*, to another* prophecy, to another* distinguishing of spirits, to another kinds of tongues, to another* interpretation of tongues. ¹¹ But in all these things one and the same Spirit is at work, distributing to each one individually just as he wishes.

⁸ Therefore the one who rejects this is not rejecting man, but God, who also gives his Holy Spirit to you.

²² Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for sincere brotherly love, love one another fervently from the heart,*

¹⁹ These are the ones who cause divisions, worldly, not having the Spirit.

² Then Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, "Get rid of the foreign gods that are in your midst and purify yourselves and change your garments.

³ And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* said to them, "_⌊If only we had died_⌋* by the hand of Yahweh in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots* of meat, when we ate bread _⌊until we were full_⌋,* because you have brought us out to this desert to kill all of this assembly with hunger." ⁴ And Yahweh said to Moses, "Look, I am going to rain down for you bread from the heavens, and the people will go out and gather enough for the day on its day; in that way I will test them: Will they go according to my law or not? ⁵ And then on the sixth day, they will prepare what they bring, and it will be twice over what they will gather every other day." ⁶ And Moses and Aaron said to all the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* "In the evening, you will know that Yahweh has brought you out from the land of Egypt, ⁷ and in the morning, you will see the glory of Yahweh, _⌊for he hears_⌋* your grumblings against Yahweh, and what are we that you grumble against us?"

¹⁰ And Yahweh said to Moses, "Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow. They must wash their clothes,

¹⁵ And he said to the people, "Be ready _⌊for the third day_⌋.* Do not go near to a woman."

⁴ The riff-raff that were in their midst _⌊had a strong desire_⌋;* and the _⌊Israelites_⌋* turned back and also wept, and they said, "Who will feed us meat? ⁵ We remember the fish that we ate in Egypt for nothing, the cucumber, melon, leek, the onions, and the garlic. ⁶ But now _⌊our strength is dried up_⌋;* there is nothing whatsoever except _⌊for the manna before us_⌋."*

² And all the _⌊Israelites_⌋* grumbled against Moses and Aaron, and all the community said to them, "If only we had died in the land of Egypt or in this desert! ³ Why did Yahweh bring us into this land to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little children will become plunder; would it not be better for us to return to Egypt?"

¹³ Get up, sanctify the people, and say, 'Sanctify yourselves for tomorrow. Thus says Yahweh the God of Israel: "There are devoted things* in your midst, O Israel. You will be unable to stand before you enemies until you remove the devoted things* from your midst."

² And the people of Bethel came and sat there until evening before God, and they lifted their voices and _⌊wept bitterly_⌋.*

³⁹ to whom our fathers were not willing to become obedient, but rejected him* and turned back in their hearts to Egypt,

⁸ And Moses said, "When in the evening Yahweh gives you meat to eat and bread in the morning _⌊to fill up on_⌋,* _⌊for he hears_⌋* your grumblings that you grumble against him—and what are we? Your grumblings are not against us but against Yahweh."

¹³ And so it was, in the evening, the quail came up and covered the camp, and in the morning, a layer of dew was all around the camp.

²⁷ And Joshua said to all the people, "Look, this stone will be a witness against us, for it has heard all the words of Yahweh that he spoke with us. It will be as a witness against you, so that you do not deny your God."

³⁰ Therefore,' _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh the God of Israel, 'though I solemnly said that your house and the house of your ancestor* would walk before me forever, but now,' _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, 'far be it from me, for those who honor me I will honor, but those who despise me, I will treat with contempt!

¹⁹ But you today have rejected your God who always delivers you from all of your calamities and your distresses. You have said to him, 'No, but you must appoint a king over us!' So then present yourselves before Yahweh by your tribes and by your clans."

¹⁰ So then, a sword will not turn away from your house forever, because you have despised me and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife!'

²⁷ Then he rained meat on them like dust, even winged birds* like the sand of the seas. ²⁸ He caused them to fall in the midst of his camp, all around his dwellings. ²⁹ So they ate and were well filled, and he brought about what they craved. ³⁰ They had not yet turned aside from their craving, while their food was still in their mouth,

¹⁵ So he gave to them their request, but he sent leanness into their souls.*

⁷ An _⌊appetite_⌋* that is sated spurns honey, but to an _⌊appetite_⌋* that is ravenous, all bitterness is sweet.

⁶ "A son honors his father, and a slave his master;* but if I am a father, where is my honor, and if I am a master,* where is my reverence?" says Yahweh of hosts to you, O priests, _⌊who despise_⌋* my name. "But you say, 'How have we despised your name?'

⁴¹ 'Look, you scoffers, and be astonished and perish! For I am doing a work in your days, a work that you would never believe even if someone were to tell it* to you.'"*

² And I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you, and I will make your name great. And you will be a blessing.

³⁷ And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* set out from Rameses to Succoth; the men were about six hundred thousand on foot,* besides dependents.

²⁶ It was a bekah for the individual, the half shekel according to the sanctuary shekel, for _⌊everyone who was counted_⌋,* from _⌊twenty years old_⌋* and above, for six hundred and three thousand five hundred and fifty.

⁴⁶ All of the ones counted were six hundred and three thousand, five hundred and fifty.

³² These were the ones counted of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* according to _⌊their families_⌋;* all those counted from the camps according to their divisions were six hundred and three thousand five hundred.

² Then the officer _⌊on whom the king relied_⌋* answered the man of God and said, "Look, even if Yahweh is making windows in heaven, could this thing happen?" And he said, "Look, you will be seeing it with your eyes, but you shall not eat from it there."

³⁷ But he answered and* said to them, "You give them something* to eat." And they said to him, "Should we go and* purchase bread for two hundred denarii and give it* to them to eat?"

¹⁸ And Zechariah said to the angel, "By what will I know this? For I am an old man, and my wife is advanced _⌊in years_⌋!"*

³⁴ And Mary said to the angel, "How will this be, since I have not had sexual relations with a man?"

⁶ (Now he said this to test him, because he knew what he was going to do.) ⁷ Philip replied to him, "Two hundred denarii worth of bread would not be enough for them, in order that each one could receive a little."

⁹ "Here is a boy who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are these for so many people?"

¹⁴ Is anything too difficult for Yahweh? At the appointed time I will return to you _⌊in the spring_⌋* and Sarah shall have a son."

¹⁹ God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of humankind, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? And has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?

¹⁷ Then the king appointed the officer he was depending on over the gate, but the people trampled him and he died, according to that which the man of God had said which he spoke when the king came down to him. ¹⁸ It happened as the man of God spoke to the king, saying, "Two seahs of barley shall be sold for a shekel and a seah of wheat flour for a shekel at this time tomorrow in the gate of Samaria." ¹⁹ Then the officer had replied to the man of God and said, "Look, even if Yahweh is opening the windows in heaven, could this thing happen?" And he had said, "Look you are about to see it with your eyes, but you will not eat from it."

⁴¹ So they again tested God and distressed* the Holy One of Israel.

² Why was there no man when I came, no one who answered when I called? _⌊Do I lack the strength to save_⌋?* Or is there no power in me to deliver? Look! by my rebuke I dry up the sea; I _⌊make_⌋* the rivers a desert; their fish stink because there is no water, and they* die because of thirst.

¹ Look! The hand of Yahweh is not too short _⌊to save_⌋,* and his ear is not too dull _⌊to hear_⌋.*

²⁸ And the survivors of the sword will return from the land of Egypt to the land of Judah _⌊few in number_⌋.* And all the remnant of Judah who have come to the land of Egypt to dwell as aliens there will know whose word will endure, from me or from them. ²⁹ And this will be to you the sign,' _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, 'that I am going to punish you in this place, so that you may know that surely my words will endure against you for evil.'

²⁵ For I, Yahweh, I will speak what I will speak as a word, and it will be done. It will not prolong itself any longer, for in your days, house of rebellion, I will speak a word and I will fulfill it!" _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh.

¹⁴ I, Yahweh, I have spoken. It is coming, and I did it; I will not disregard, and I will not take pity, and I will not reconsider. According to your ways and according to your deeds they will judge you!"* _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh.

⁷ Should this be said, O house of Jacob? Is the patience* of Yahweh shortened? Are these his deeds? Are my words not pleasing to him who walks upright?

²⁶ But Jesus looked at them* and* said to them, "With human beings this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."

³⁵ Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

³⁷ For _⌊nothing will be impossible with God_⌋."*

¹⁶ And Yahweh said to Moses, "Gather for me seventy men from the elders of Israel whom you know are elders of the people and their* officials; take them to the tent of assembly, and they will stand there with you.

²⁶ But two men were left in the camp; the name of one was Eldad, and the name of the second was Medad, and the spirit rested on them; they were among those who were written down, but they did not go out to the tent, so they prophesied in the camp.

³⁸ For the cloud of Yahweh was on the tabernacle by day, and fire was on it by night before the eyes of all the house of Israel throughout all their journeys.

¹⁷ I will come down and speak with you there; I will take away from the spirit that is on you, and I will place it on them; and they will bear the burdens of the people with you; you will not bear it alone.

⁵ After this, you will come to the Gibeah of God,* where there are sentries* of the Philistines. _⌊Just as you enter_⌋* the town there, you will meet a procession of prophets coming down from the high place, with harp, tambourine, flute, and zither before them, and they will be prophesying. ⁶ Then the Spirit of Yahweh will rush upon you,* and you will prophesy with them; and you will turn into _⌊a different person_⌋.*

¹⁰ When they went from there to Gibeah, a procession of prophets met him, and the Spirit of God rushed upon him,* and he prophesied among them.

²⁰ So Saul sent messengers to capture David. When they saw the company of the prophets prophesying and Samuel standing as chief over them, then the Spirit of God came upon Saul's messengers, and they also prophesied. ²¹ So they told Saul, and he sent other messengers, and they also prophesied. Again Saul sent messengers a third time, and they also prophesied. ²² Then he also went to Ramah. When he came to the great cistern which was in Secu, he asked and said, "Where are Samuel and David?" Someone said, "Look they are in Naioth in Ramah." ²³ So he went there to Naioth in Ramah and the Spirit of God came upon him also, and _⌊he walked along prophesying_⌋* until he came to Naioth in Ramah. ²⁴ He also stripped off his clothes and prophesied before Samuel. He lay naked all that day and all night. Therefore they say, "Is Saul also among the prophets?"

⁷ He spoke to them in the pillar of cloud. They kept his testimonies and the statute he gave to them.

⁵ And Jeremiah instructed Baruch, _⌊saying_⌋,* "I am held back, I am not able to enter the temple of Yahweh. ⁶ So you must go and you shall read aloud from the scroll that you have written from my mouth the words of Yahweh in the hearing of the people in the temple of Yahweh on a day of fast, and also you shall read aloud in the hearing of all those of Judah who came from their towns.

²⁸ * And it will happen afterward thus: I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters will prophesy, and your elders will dream dreams; your young men shall see visions. ²⁹ And also on the male slaves and on the female slaves, I will pour out my Spirit in those days.

³⁴ And while* he was saying these things, a cloud came and overshadowed them, and they were afraid as they entered into the cloud. ³⁵ And a voice came from the cloud, saying, "This is my Son, my Chosen One. Listen to him!"

¹⁷ 'And it will be in the last days,' God says, 'I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters will prophesy, and your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams. ¹⁸ And even on my male slaves and on my female slaves I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.

²⁸ And one of them _⌊named_⌋* Agabus stood up and* indicated by the Spirit that a great famine was about to come over the whole inhabited earth (which took place in the time of Claudius).

⁹ (_⌊Now this man had_⌋* four virgin daughters who prophesied.) ¹⁰ And while we* were staying there* many days, a certain prophet _⌊named_⌋* Agabus came down from Judea. ¹¹ And he came to us and took Paul's belt. Tying up his own feet and hands, he said, "This is what the Holy Spirit says: 'In this way the Jews in Jerusalem will tie up the man whose belt this is, and will deliver him* into the hands of the Gentiles.'"

⁴ Every man who prays or prophesies while* having something* on his head dishonors his head, ⁵ but every woman who prays or prophesies with uncovered head dishonors her head, for she is one and the same with the one whose head is shaved.

¹ Pursue love, and strive for spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. ² For the one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God, because no one understands, but by the Spirit* he speaks mysteries. ³ But the one who prophesies speaks to people edification and encouragement and consolation.

³² and the spirits of prophets are subject to prophets.

¹⁷ Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of change.

²¹ for no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men carried along by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.

¹¹ But Moses said to God, "Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and that I should bring the _⌊Israelites_⌋* out from Egypt?"

¹³ And he said, "Please, Lord, do send _⌊anyone else whom you wish to send_⌋."* ¹⁴ _⌊And Yahweh was angry with_⌋* Moses and said, "Is there not Aaron your brother the Levite? I know that he certainly can speak, and also there he is coming out to meet you, and when he sees you, he will rejoice in his heart.

²² So they inquired again of Yahweh, "_⌊Did the man come here_⌋?" * And Yahweh said, "Look, he is hiding himself among the baggage."

²⁶ But Saul said nothing on that day, for he thought, "_⌊Something happened to him_⌋.* He is not ceremonially clean; surely he is not clean."

⁶ Then I said, "Ah, Lord Yahweh! Look, I do not know how to speak, for I am a youth."*

⁵ And Jeremiah instructed Baruch, _⌊saying_⌋,* "I am held back, I am not able to enter the temple of Yahweh.

⁹ And Moses said to Joshua, "Choose men for us, and go out, fight against Amalek tomorrow. I will be standing on the top of the hill, and the staff of God will be in my hand."

¹¹ And Yahweh would speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his neighbor. And he would return to the camp, and his assistant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, did not leave the middle of the tent.

¹ After the death of Moses the servant of Yahweh, Yahweh said to Joshua son of Nun, the assistant* of Moses, saying,

³⁸ John said to him, "Teacher, we saw someone expelling demons in your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us." ³⁹ But Jesus said, "Do not prevent him, because there is no one who does a miracle in my name and will be able soon afterward to speak evil of me. ⁴⁰ For whoever is not against us is for us.

⁴⁹ And John answered and* said, "Master, we saw someone expelling demons in your name, and we tried to prevent him, because he does not follow in company with us." ⁵⁰ But Jesus said to him, "Do not prevent him,* because whoever is not against you is for you."

²⁶ And they came to John and said to him, "Rabbi, he who was with you on the other side of the Jordan, about whom you testified—look, this one is baptizing, and all are coming to him!"

³⁷ Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. ³⁸ Therefore ask the Lord of the harvest that he send out workers into his harvest."

²⁹ And Paul replied, "I pray to God, whether in a short time or in a long time, not only you but also all those who are listening to me today may become such people as I also am, except for these bonds!"

³ for you are still fleshly. For where there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not fleshly, and do you not live like unregenerate people?*

²¹ So then, let no one boast in people. For all things are yours,

⁴ Love is patient, love is kind, love is not jealous, it does not boast, it does not become conceited,

⁵ Now I want you all to speak with tongues, but even more that you may prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks with tongues, unless he interprets, in order that the church may receive edification.

¹⁵ Some even because of envy and strife preach Christ, but some also because of good will. ¹⁶ The latter do so from love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel. ¹⁷ The former proclaim Christ from selfish ambition, not sincerely, thinking to raise up affliction in my imprisonment. ¹⁸ _⌊What is the result?_⌋* Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed, and in this I rejoice. But also I will rejoice,

³ Do nothing according to selfish ambition or according to empty conceit, but in humility considering one another better than yourselves,

¹⁴ But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and tell lies against the truth. ¹⁵ This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic.

⁵ Or do you think that in vain the scripture says, "The spirit which he caused to dwell in us desires jealously"?*

⁹ Brothers, do not complain against one another, in order that you may not be judged. Behold, the judge stands before the doors!

¹ Therefore, ridding yourselves of all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander,

¹³ And Moses stretched out his staff over the land of Egypt, and Yahweh drove an east wind into the land all that day and all night. The morning came, and the east wind had brought the locusts.

¹⁹ And Yahweh turned a very strong _⌊west wind_⌋* and lifted up the locusts and thrust them into the _⌊Red Sea_⌋,* and not one locust remained in all the territory of Egypt.

¹⁰ You blew with your breath; the sea covered them; they dropped like lead in the mighty waters.

²⁶ He caused the east wind to blow in the heavens and drove along the south wind by his strength. ²⁷ Then he rained meat on them like dust, even winged birds* like the sand of the seas. ²⁸ He caused them to fall in the midst of his camp, all around his dwellings. ²⁹ So they ate and were well filled, and he brought about what they craved.

⁷ He causes clouds to rise from the edge of the earth; he makes lightnings for the rain; he brings out the wind from his storehouses.

³⁶ (And an omer is a tenth of an ephah.)

¹¹ The ephah and the bath shall be one unit of measurement;* the tenth part of the homer is the bath, and the tenth of the homer is the ephah; so the homer shall be its* unit of measurement.

⁴⁹ Those who died by the plague were fourteen thousand seven hundred, besides those who died on account of Korah.

⁹ The ones who died in the plague were twenty-four thousand.

²⁷ "Yahweh shall afflict you with the boils of Egypt and with tumors and with the scurvy and with _⌊the skin rash that cannot be healed_⌋.*

³⁰ They had not yet turned aside from their craving, while their food was still in their mouth, ³¹ the anger of God rose against them, and he killed some of the stoutest of them, even the young men of Israel he caused to bow down in death.

¹⁴ And they _⌊craved intensely_⌋* in the wilderness, and tested God in the desert. ¹⁵ So he gave to them their request, but he sent leanness into their souls.*
