¹ And when* he came down from the mountain, large crowds followed him. ² And behold, a leper approached and* worshiped him, saying, "Lord, if you are willing, you are able to make me clean." ³ And extending his hand he touched him, saying, "I am willing, be clean." And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. ⁴ And Jesus said to him, "See that you tell no one, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony to them." ⁵ Now when* he entered Capernaum, a centurion approached him, appealing to him ⁶ and saying, "Lord, my slave* is lying paralyzed in my* house, terribly tormented!" ⁷ And he said to him, "I will come and* heal him." ⁸ And the centurion answered and* said, "Lord, I am not worthy that you should come in under my roof. But only say the word and my slave will be healed. ⁹ For I also am a man under authority who has soldiers under me, and I say to this one, 'Go!' and he goes, and to another one, 'Come!' and he comes, and to my slave, 'Do this!' and he does it*." ¹⁰ Now when* Jesus heard this,* he was astonished, and said to those who were following him,* "Truly I say to you, I have found such great faith with no one in Israel. ¹¹ But I say to you that many will come from east and west and _⌊be seated at the banquet_⌋* with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. ¹² But the sons of the kingdom will be thrown out into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth!" ¹³ And Jesus said to the centurion, "Go, as you have believed it will be done for you." And the slave* was healed at that hour. ¹⁴ And when* Jesus came into Peter's house, he saw his mother-in-law lying down and suffering with a fever. ¹⁵ And he touched her hand and the fever left her, and she got up and began to serve him. ¹⁶ Now when it* was evening, they brought to him many who were demon-possessed, and he expelled the spirits with a word. And he healed all _⌊those who were sick_⌋,* ¹⁷ in order that what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah would be fulfilled, who said,
"He himself took away our sicknesses, and carried away our diseases."* ¹⁸ Now when* Jesus saw many crowds* around him, he gave orders to depart to the other side.* ¹⁹ And a scribe approached and* said to him, "Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go!" ²⁰ And Jesus said to him, "Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head." ²¹ And another of the disciples* said to him, "Lord, allow me first to go and bury my father." ²² But Jesus said to him, "Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their own dead!" ²³ And as* he got into the boat, his disciples followed him. ²⁴ And behold, a great storm arose on the sea, so that the boat was being inundated by the waves, but he himself was asleep. ²⁵ And they came and* woke him, saying, "Lord, save us!* We are perishing!" ²⁶ And he said to them, "Why are you fearful, you of little faith?" Then he got up and* rebuked the winds and the sea and there was a great calm. ²⁷ And the men were astonished, saying, "What sort of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him?" ²⁸ And when* he came to the other side,* to the region of the Gadarenes,* two demon-possessed men coming from among the tombs met him, very violent, so that no one was able to pass by along that road. ²⁹ And behold, they cried out, saying, "_⌊What do you have to do with us_⌋,* Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?"* ³⁰ Now a long way from them a large herd of pigs was feeding. ³¹ So the demons implored him, saying, "If you are going to expel us, send us into the herd of pigs." ³² And he said to them, "Go!" So they departed and* went into the pigs, and behold, the whole herd rushed headlong down the steep slope into the sea and drowned in the water. ³³ Now the herdsmen fled and went into the town and* reported everything, including the things concerning the demon-possessed men. ³⁴ And behold, the whole town came out to meet Jesus, and when they* saw him, they implored him* that he would depart from their region.

²⁵ And large crowds followed him from Galilee, Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and from the other side of the Jordan.

¹⁸ Now when* Jesus saw many crowds* around him, he gave orders to depart to the other side.*

¹⁵ Now Jesus, when he* learned of it,* withdrew from there, and many* followed him, and he healed them all.

³⁰ And large crowds came to him, having with them the mute, blind, lame, crippled,* and many others, and they put them down at his feet, and he healed them.

² And large crowds followed him, and he healed them there.

²⁹ And as* they were going out of Jericho, a large crowd followed him.

⁷ And Jesus went away with his disciples to the sea,* and a great crowd from Galilee followed him.* And from Judea

¹⁵ But the report about him spread even more, and large crowds were gathering to hear him* and to be healed of their illnesses.

²⁵ Now large crowds were going along with him, and he turned around and* said to them, ²⁶ "If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, and furthermore, even his own life, _⌊he cannot be_⌋* my disciple. ²⁷ Whoever does not carry his own cross and _⌊follow_⌋* me _⌊cannot be_⌋* my disciple.

⁴⁴ he is a man afflicted with a skin disease—he is unclean; the priest certainly shall declare him unclean—his infection is on his head. ⁴⁵ "As for* the person who is afflicted with a skin disease, his garments must be torn and his _⌊hair_⌋* must be allowed to hang loosely, and he must cover his upper lip, and he must call out, 'Unclean! Unclean!' ⁴⁶ For all the days during which the infection is on him, he shall be unclean; he must live alone; his dwelling must be _⌊outside the camp_⌋."*

² "Command the _⌊Israelites_⌋:* they must send everyone from the camp who is afflicted with a rash,* everyone with a fluid discharge, and everyone unclean through contact with a corpse. ³ You will send away _⌊both male and female_⌋;* you will send them _⌊outside the camp_⌋.* They must not make unclean their camps where I am dwelling in their midst."

¹⁰ And the cloud departed from on the tent, and behold, Miriam was infected with _⌊a skin disease_⌋* white like snow; when Aaron turned toward Miriam, behold, she was afflicted with a skin disease.

⁸ Be watchful* _⌊with respect to_⌋* an outbreak of any infectious skin disease, by being very careful and by acting* according to all that the priests and the Levites have instructed you, just as I have commanded them, _⌊so you shall diligently observe_⌋.* ⁹ So remember what Yahweh your God did to Miriam on the journey _⌊when you went out from Egypt_⌋.*

³⁹ I am weak today even though anointed king, and these men, the sons of Zeruiah, are crueler than I am. May Yahweh pay them back for doing wickedness according to their own wickedness."

¹ Now Naaman was the commander of the army of the king of Aram. He was a great man before his master and _⌊highly regarded_⌋,* for by him Yahweh had given victory to Aram. Now the man was a mighty warrior, but he was afflicted with a skin disease.

²⁷ The skin disease of Naaman shall cling to you and to your offspring forever." Then he went out from before him having a skin disease like the snow.

³ Now four men who had a skin disease were at the entrance of the gate, and they said _⌊to each other_⌋,* "Why are we sitting here until we die? ⁴ If we say, 'Let us go into the city,' the famine is in the city, and we shall die there; but if we sit here, we shall die. So then, come, let us fall into the camp of the Arameans. If they let us live, we shall live; but if they kill us, then we shall die."

⁵ Yahweh struck the king, and he was infected with a skin disease until the day of his death. He lived in a separate house, while Jotham the son of the king was over the house, governing the people of the land.

¹⁹ Then Uzziah, his censer in hand to burn incense, became angry. And when he became angry with the priests, then leprosy appeared on his forehead in front of the priests in the house of Yahweh at the altar of incense. ²⁰ When Azariah the chief priest and all the priests turned to him, behold, he was leprous in the forehead. So they rushed him away from there, and he also hastened to go out, for Yahweh had smitten him. ²¹ So King Uzziah was leprous until the day of his death, and he lived in a separate house as a leper, for he was cut off from the house of Yahweh. And Jotham his son was over the house of the king, judging the people of the land.

¹¹ And when they* came into the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and* worshiped him. And opening their treasure boxes, they offered him gifts of gold and frankincense and myrrh.

⁹ and he said to him, "I will give to you all these things, if you will fall down and* worship me."

¹⁸ As* he was saying these things to them, behold, one of the rulers came and* knelt down before him, saying, "My daughter has just now died, but come, place your hand on her and she will live!"

²⁸ And when he* came into the house, the blind men approached him, and Jesus said to them, "Do you believe that I am able to do this?" They said to him, "Yes, Lord." ²⁹ Then he touched their eyes, saying, "According to your faith let it be done for you."

⁸ Heal those who are sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, expel demons. Freely you have received; freely give.

⁵⁸ And he did not perform many miracles in that place because of their unbelief.

³³ So those in the boat worshiped him, saying, "Truly you are the Son of God!"

²⁵ But she came and* knelt down before him, saying, "Lord, help me!"

²⁶ Then the slave threw himself to the ground and* began to do obeisance to him, saying, 'Be patient with me, and I will pay back everything to you!'

²⁰ Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came up to him with her sons, and* kneeling down she asked* something from him.

⁶ Now while* Jesus was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper,

⁹ And behold, Jesus met them, saying, "Greetings!" And they came up and* took hold of his feet and worshiped him.

¹⁷ And when they* saw him, they worshiped him,* but some doubted.

⁴⁰ And a leper came to him, entreating him and kneeling down, saying* to him, "If you are willing, you are able to make me clean." ⁴¹ And becoming angry,* he stretched out his hand and* touched him*, and said to him, "I am willing; be made clean." ⁴² And immediately the leprosy went away from him and he was made clean. ⁴³ And warning him sternly, he sent him away at once. ⁴⁴ And he said to him, "See to it that you say nothing to anyone, but go, show yourself to the priest and bring for your cleansing the things which Moses commanded, for a testimony to them. ⁴⁵ But he went out and* began to proclaim it* freely and to spread abroad the account, so that he was no longer able to enter publicly into a town. But he was staying outside in deserted places, and they were coming to him from all directions.

⁶ And when he* saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and knelt down before him. ⁷ And crying out with a loud voice he said, "_⌊What have I to do with you_⌋*, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I implore you by God, do not torment me!"

²² And often it has thrown him both into fire and into water, in order that it could destroy him. But if you are able to do anything, have compassion on us and* help us!" ²³ But Jesus said to him, "If you are able! All things are possible for the one who believes!" ²⁴ Immediately the father of the child cried out and* said, "I believe! Help my unbelief!"

²⁷ And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of the prophet Elisha, and none of them was made clean except Naaman the Syrian."

¹² And it happened that while he was in one of the towns, _⌊there was_⌋* a man _⌊covered with leprosy_⌋.* And when he* saw Jesus, he fell down on his face and* begged him, saying, "Lord, if you are willing, you are able to make me clean." ¹³ And extending his* hand he touched him, saying, "I am willing; be clean." And immediately the leprosy went away from him. ¹⁴ And he ordered him, "Tell no one, but go and* show yourself to the priest and bring the offering* for your cleansing just as Moses commanded, for a testimony to them.

¹² And as* he was entering into a certain village, ten men met him**—lepers, who stood at a distance. ¹³ And they raised their voices, saying, "Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!" ¹⁴ And when he* saw them* he said to them, "Go and* show yourselves to the priests." And it happened that as they were going, they were cleansed. ¹⁵ But one of them, when he* saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice. ¹⁶ And he fell on his face at his feet, giving thanks to him. And he was a Samaritan. ¹⁷ So Jesus answered and* said, "Were not ten cleansed? And where are the nine? ¹⁸ Was no one found to turn back and* give praise to God except this foreigner?" ¹⁹ And he said to him, "Get up and* go your way. Your faith has saved you."

³⁸ And he said, "I believe, Lord!" and he worshiped him.

²⁵ So it happened that when Peter entered, Cornelius met him, fell at his* feet, and* worshiped him.*

²⁵ the secret things of his heart become evident, and so, falling on his face, he will worship God, proclaiming, "God is truly among you!"

¹⁰ And I fell down before his feet to worship him, and he said to me, "_⌊Do not do that!_⌋* I am a fellow slave of you and of your brothers who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy."

⁸ And I, John, am the one who heard and who saw these things. And when I heard and saw them, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel who showed these things to me. ⁹ And he said to me, "_⌊Do not do that!_⌋* I am your fellow slave, and of your brothers the prophets, and of those who keep the words of this book. Worship God!"

³ And God said, "Let there be light!" And there was light.

¹¹ But Naaman became angry and he went and said, "Look, I said to myself, 'Surely he will come out, stand, call upon the name of Yahweh his God, and wave his hands over the spot; then he would take away the skin disease.'

¹⁴ So he went down and plunged into the Jordan seven times, according to the word of the man of God, and his flesh returned as the flesh of a small boy, and he was clean.

⁹ For _⌊he himself spoke_⌋* and it came to pass. _⌊He himself commanded_⌋* and it stood firm.

⁴ And Jesus answered and* said to them, "Go and* tell John what you hear and see: ⁵ the blind receive sight and the lame walk, lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised, and the poor have good news announced to them.*

⁴¹ And becoming angry,* he stretched out his hand and* touched him*, and said to him, "I am willing; be made clean."

³⁹ And he woke up and* rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, "Be quiet! Be silent!" And the wind abated and there was a great calm.

⁴¹ And taking hold of the child's hand, he said to her, "Talitha koum!" (which is translated, "Little girl, I say to you, get up!"),

³⁴ And looking up to heaven, he sighed and said to him, "Ephphatha!" (that is, "Be opened!").

²⁵ Now when* Jesus saw that a crowd was running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, "Mute and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him, and enter into him no more!"

¹³ And extending his* hand he touched him, saying, "I am willing; be clean." And immediately the leprosy went away from him.

¹⁴ And he came up and* touched the bier, and those who were carrying it* stopped. And he said, "Young man, I say to you, get up!"

¹⁴ And when he* saw them* he said to them, "Go and* show yourselves to the priests." And it happened that as they were going, they were cleansed. ¹⁵ But one of them, when he* saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice.

²¹ For just as the Father raises the dead and makes them* alive, thus also the Son makes alive whomever he wishes.

⁴³ And when he* had said these things, he cried out with a loud voice, "Lazarus, come out!"

²⁴ If I had not done among them the works that no one else did, they would not have sin. But now they have both seen and hated both me and my Father.

² "When a _⌊person_⌋* has on his body's skin a swelling or an epidermal eruption or a spot and it becomes* an infectious skin disease on his body's skin, then* he shall be brought to Aaron the priest or to one of his sons the priests. ³ And the priest shall examine the infection on his body's skin, and if the hair in the infection turns white and the appearance of the infection is deeper than his body's skin, it is an infectious skin disease, and the priest shall examine it, and he shall declare him unclean. ⁴ But* if a spot is white on his body's skin and its appearance is not deeper than the skin and its hair does not turn white, then* the priest shall confine the afflicted person for seven days. ⁵ And the priest shall examine it on the seventh day, and _⌊if_⌋,* in his eyes, the infection has stayed unchanged, the infection has not spread on the skin, then* the priest shall confine him for seven days a second time. ⁶ And the priest shall examine him on the seventh day for a second time, and _⌊if_⌋* the infection has faded and the infection has not spread on the skin, then* the priest shall declare him clean—it is an epidermal eruption; and he shall wash his garments, and so he shall be clean. ⁷ But* if the epidermal eruption spreads further on the skin after showing himself to the priest for his cleansing, then* he shall appear a second time to the priest. ⁸ And the priest shall examine it,* and _⌊if_⌋* the epidermal eruption has spread on the skin, then* the priest shall declare him unclean—it is an infectious skin disease. ⁹ "When an infectious skin disease is on a person and he is brought to the priest, ¹⁰ the priest shall examine it,* and _⌊if_⌋* a white swelling is on the skin and it turns the hair white and _⌊raw flesh_⌋* is in the swelling, ¹¹ it is a chronic infectious skin disease on his body's skin, and the priest shall declare him unclean; he shall not confine him, because he is unclean. ¹² And if the infectious skin disease breaks out all over on the skin and the infectious skin disease covers all of the afflicted person's skin from his head to his feed, _⌊so far as the priest can see_⌋,* ¹³ then* the priest shall examine it,* and _⌊if_⌋* the infectious skin disease covers his whole body, then* he shall pronounce the afflicted person clean—all of it has turned white; he is clean. ¹⁴ But* _⌊whenever_⌋* _⌊raw flesh_⌋* appears on him, he shall become unclean. ¹⁵ And the priest shall examine the _⌊raw flesh_⌋,* and he shall pronounce him unclean—the _⌊raw flesh_⌋* is unclean; it is an infectious skin disease. ¹⁶ Or, when the _⌊raw flesh_⌋* returns and it has changed to white, then* he shall come to the priest, ¹⁷ and the priest shall examine him, and _⌊if_⌋* the infection has changed to white, then* the priest shall pronounce the afflicted person clean—he is clean. ¹⁸ "And when someone's body _⌊has_⌋* a skin sore on his skin and it is healed ¹⁹ and a white swelling or a _⌊pinkish_⌋* spot appears in the skin sore's place, then* he shall show himself to the priest. ²⁰ And the priest shall examine it,* and _⌊if_⌋* its appearance is deeper than the skin and its hair has changed to white, then* the priest shall declare him unclean—it is an infectious skin disease; it has broken out in the skin sore. ²¹ And if the priest examines it and _⌊if_⌋* there is no white hair in it and it is not deeper than the skin and it is faded, then* the priest shall confine him for seven days. ²² But* if it has spread further on the skin, then* the priest shall declare him unclean—it is an infection. ²³ But* if the spot has stayed unchanged, it has not spread, it is the skin sore's scar, so* the priest shall declare him clean. ²⁴ "Or when a body _⌊has_⌋* a burn-spot _⌊from_⌋* fire on its skin and the _⌊raw flesh_⌋* of the burn-spot is _⌊pinkish_⌋* or white, ²⁵ then* the priest shall examine it, and _⌊if_⌋* the hair turns white in the spot and its appearance is deeper than the skin, it is an infectious skin disease—it has broken out in the burn-spot; so* the priest shall declare him unclean—it is an infectious skin disease. ²⁶ But* if the priest examines it and _⌊if_⌋* there is not white hair in the spot and it is not deeper than the skin and it is faded, then* the priest shall confine him for seven days. ²⁷ And the priest shall examine him on the seventh day; if it has spread further on the skin, then* the priest shall declare him unclean—it is an infectious skin disease. ²⁸ But* if it the spot has stayed unchanged in its place, it has not spread on the skin and it is faded, then it is the burn-spot's swelling, so* the priest shall declare him clean, because it is the burn-spot's scar. ²⁹ "And when a man or a woman _⌊has_⌋* an infection on the head or in the beard, ³⁰ then* the priest shall examine the infection, and _⌊if_⌋* its appearance is deeper than the skin and in it is thin bright red hair, then* the priest shall declare it unclean—it is a diseased area of skin; it is an infectious skin disease of the head or the beard. ³¹ But* if the priest examines the diseased area of the skin's infection and _⌊if_⌋* its appearance is not deeper than the skin and there is no black hair in it, then* the priest shall confine the afflicted person with the diseased area of skin for seven days. ³² And the priest shall examine the infection on the seventh day, and _⌊if_⌋* the diseased area of skin has not spread and it does not have bright red hair in it and the diseased area of the skin's appearance is not deeper than the skin, ³³ then* he shall shave himself, but* he shall not shave the diseased area of skin, and the priest shall confine the person with* the diseased area of skin a second time for seven days. ³⁴ And the priest shall examine the diseased area of skin on the seventh day, and _⌊if_⌋* the diseased area has not spread on the skin and its appearance is not deeper than the skin, then* the priest shall pronounce him clean, and he shall wash his garments, and he shall be clean. ³⁵ But* if the diseased area of skin has not spread further on the skin after his cleansing, ³⁶ then* the priest shall examine him, and _⌊if_⌋* the diseased area of skin has spread on the skin, the priest shall not inspect for bright* red hair—he is unclean. ³⁷ But* if, in his eyes, the diseased area of skin has stayed unchanged and black hair has grown in it, the diseased area of skin is healed—he is clean, and the priest shall pronounce him clean. ³⁸ "And when a man or a woman _⌊has_⌋* spots on their body's skin, white spots, ³⁹ then* the priest shall examine them,* and _⌊if_⌋* the spots on their body's skin are a faded white, it is a skin rash; it has broken out on the skin—it is clean. ⁴⁰ "And if a man becomes bald, his head is bald, he is clean. ⁴¹ And if he becomes bald _⌊from his forehead_⌋,* his head is bald, he is clean. ⁴² But* if a _⌊pinkish_⌋* infection occurs* on the bald spot or on the bald forehead, it is an infectious skin disease that sprouts on his bald spot or on his bald forehead. ⁴³ So* the priest shall examine him, and _⌊if_⌋* the infection's swelling is _⌊pinkish_⌋* on his bald spot or on his bald forehead, like the appearance of an infectious skin disease on* the body,

² "This is the regulation of the person afflicted with a skin disease _⌊at the time of_⌋* his cleansing. And he shall be brought to the priest, ³ and the priest shall go _⌊outside the camp_⌋,* and the priest shall examine him,* and _⌊if_⌋* the skin disease's infection is healed on* the afflicted person, ⁴ then* the priest shall command, and he shall take two living, clean birds and _⌊cedar wood_⌋* and _⌊a crimson thread_⌋* and hyssop for the one who presents himself for cleansing. ⁵ Then* the priest shall command someone* to slaughter one bird over fresh water in a clay vessel. ⁶ He must take the living bird and the _⌊cedar wood_⌋* and _⌊the crimson thread_⌋* and the hyssop, and he shall dip them and the living bird in the bird's blood slaughtered over the fresh water. ⁷ And he shall spatter the blood* seven times on the one who presents himself for cleansing from the infectious skin disease, and he shall declare him clean, and he shall send the living bird _⌊into the open field_⌋.* ⁸ Then* the one who presents himself for cleansing shall wash his garments, and he shall shave off all his hair, and he shall wash himself in the water; thus* he shall be clean, and afterward he shall enter the camp, but* he shall stay _⌊outside his tent_⌋* for seven days. ⁹ _⌊And then_⌋* on the seventh day he must shave off all his hair—he must shave his head and his beard and _⌊his eyebrows_⌋* and all the rest* of his hair—and he shall wash his garments, and he shall wash his body in the water; thus* he shall be clean. ¹⁰ "And on the eighth day he must take two male lambs without defect and one ewe-lamb _⌊in its first year_⌋* without defect and three-tenths of an ephah* of finely milled flour mixed with oil as a grain offering and one log of oil. ¹¹ And the priest who cleanses him* shall present the man who presents himself for cleansing and _⌊these things_⌋* _⌊before_⌋* the tent of assembly's entrance. ¹² Then* the priest shall take the one male lamb, and he shall present it as a guilt offering, and the log of oil, and he shall wave them as a wave offering _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh. ¹³ And he shall slaughter the male lamb in the place where he slaughters the sin offering and the burnt offering in the sanctuary's space,* because as the sin offering belongs to the priest, so also the guilt offering—_⌊it is a most holy thing_⌋.* ¹⁴ And the priest shall take _⌊some of_⌋* the guilt offering's blood, and the priest shall put it* on the right ear's lobe of the one who presents himself for cleansing and on his right hand's thumb and on his right foot's big toe. ¹⁵ And the priest shall take _⌊some of_⌋* the log of oil, and he shall pour it* on his* left palm; ¹⁶ and the priest shall dip his right finger in the oil that is on his left palm, and he shall spatter _⌊some of_⌋* the oil with his finger seven times _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh. ¹⁷ Then* the priest shall put _⌊some of_⌋* the remaining oil, which is on his palm, on the right ear's lobe of the one to be cleansed and on his right hand's thumb and on his right foot's big toe, on top of the guilt offering's blood.* ¹⁸ And the remaining oil that is on the priest's palm he shall put on the head of the one who presents himself for cleansing, and the priest shall make atonement for him _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh. ¹⁹ Thus* the priest shall _⌊sacrifice_⌋* the sin offering, and he shall make atonement for the one who presents himself for cleansing from his uncleanness, and afterward he shall slaughter the burnt offering. ²⁰ Then* the priest shall offer the burnt offering and the grain offering on the altar, and the priest shall make atonement for him, and so he shall be clean. ²¹ "But* if he is poor and _⌊he cannot afford_⌋* it,* then* he shall take one male lamb for a guilt offering as a wave offering to make atonement for himself and one-tenth of an ephah* of finely milled flour mixed with oil for a grain offering, and a log of oil, ²² and two turtledoves or two _⌊young doves_⌋* that _⌊he can afford_⌋,* and one shall be a sin offering and the _⌊other_⌋* a burnt offering. ²³ And he shall bring them to the priest at the tent of assembly's entrance _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh on the eighth day for his cleansing. ²⁴ And the priest shall take the male lamb for the guilt offering and the log of oil, and the priest shall wave them as a wave offering _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh; ²⁵ and he shall slaughter the male lamb of the guilt offering, and the priest shall take _⌊some of_⌋* the guilt offering's blood, and he shall put it* on the right ear's lobe of the one who presents himself for cleansing and on his right hand's thumb and on his right foot's big toe. ²⁶ Then* the priest shall pour out _⌊some of_⌋* the oil on his own* left palm, ²⁷ and with his right finger the priest shall spatter _⌊some of_⌋* the oil that is on his left palm seven times _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh. ²⁸ Then* the priest shall put _⌊some of_⌋* the oil that is on his palm on the right ear's lobe of the one who presents himself for cleansing and on his right hand's thumb and on his right foot's big toe on the place of the guilt offering's blood. ²⁹ And the remaining oil that is on the priest's palm he shall put on the head of the one who presents himself for cleansing to make atonement for him _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh. ³⁰ And he shall _⌊sacrifice_⌋* one of the turtledoves or the _⌊young doves_⌋* that _⌊he can afford_⌋,* ³¹ even* what _⌊he can afford_⌋,* the one as a sin offering and the _⌊other_⌋* as a burnt offering in addition to the grain offering, and the priest shall make atonement for the one who presents himself for cleansing _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh. ³² This is the regulation of the one on whom is an infectious skin disease who _⌊cannot afford_⌋* the cost* for his cleansing."

⁷ It happened that when the king of Israel read the letter, he tore his clothes and said, "Am I God to cause death or to give life? This man is sending a man to me to cure his disease. Indeed! But know and see that he seeks an opportunity against me." ⁸ It happened that as soon as Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had torn his clothes, he sent to the king, saying, "Why did you tear your clothes? Please may he come to me, that he might know that there is a prophet in Israel."

²¹ Yahweh was willing for the sake of his righteousness; he showed his teaching to be great and proved it to be glorious.

¹⁵ But Jesus answered and* said to him, "Permit it now, for in this way it is right for us to fulfill all righteousness." Then he permitted him.

¹⁷ "Do not think that I have come to destroy the law or the prophets. I have not come to destroy them but to fulfill them.

¹ "And take care not to practice your righteousness before people to be seen by them; _⌊otherwise_⌋* you have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.

³⁰ And their eyes were opened, and Jesus sternly warned them, saying, "See that no one finds out."

¹⁸ And you will be brought before both governors and kings because of me, for a witness to them and to the Gentiles.

¹⁶ And he warned them that they should not _⌊reveal his identity_⌋,* ¹⁷ in order that what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah would be fulfilled, who said, ¹⁸ "Behold my servant whom I have chosen, my beloved in whom my soul is well pleased. I will put my Spirit on him, and he will proclaim justice to the Gentiles. ¹⁹ He will not quarrel or cry out, nor will anyone hear his voice in the streets.

²⁰ Then he commanded the disciples that they should tell no one that he was the Christ.

⁹ And as* they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them saying, "Tell no one the vision until the Son of Man is raised from the dead."

⁴³ And warning him sternly, he sent him away at once. ⁴⁴ And he said to him, "See to it that you say nothing to anyone, but go, show yourself to the priest and bring for your cleansing the things which Moses commanded, for a testimony to them.

⁴³ And he commanded them strictly that no one should learn of this, and said to give her something* to eat.

¹¹ And whatever place does not welcome you or listen to you, as you* go out from there, shake off the dust that is on your feet for a testimony against them."

³⁶ And he ordered them that they should say nothing, but as much as he ordered them not to, they proclaimed it* even more instead.

³⁰ And he warned them that they should tell no one about him.

⁹ "But you, watch out for yourselves! They will hand you over to councils and you will be beaten in the synagogues and will have to stand before governors and kings because of me, for a witness to them.

¹⁴ And he ordered him, "Tell no one, but go and* show yourself to the priest and bring the offering* for your cleansing just as Moses commanded, for a testimony to them.

¹⁴ And when he* saw them* he said to them, "Go and* show yourselves to the priests." And it happened that as they were going, they were cleansed.

¹³ This will turn out to you for a time of witness.

⁴¹ "I do not accept glory* from people,

¹⁸ The one who speaks from himself seeks his own glory. But the one who seeks the glory of the one who sent him—this one is true, and there is no unrighteousness in him.

⁵⁰ But I do not seek my own glory. There is one who seeks and judges!

³⁷ If I do not do the deeds of my Father, do not believe me. ³⁸ But if I am doing them,* even if you do not believe me, believe the deeds, so that you may know and understand that the Father is in me and I am in the Father."

¹³ And leaving Nazareth, he went and* lived in Capernaum by the sea, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali,

¹ And getting into a boat, he crossed over and came to his own town.*

²³ And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? No, you will be brought down to Hades! For if the miracles done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until today.

⁵⁴ Now the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus, when they* saw the earthquake and the things that took place, were extremely frightened, saying, "Truly this man was God's Son!"

¹ And when he* entered again into Capernaum after some days, it became known that he was at home.

³⁹ And when* the centurion who was standing opposite him saw that he expired like this, he said, "Truly this man was God's Son!"

¹ After he had finished all his statements in the hearing of the people, he entered into Capernaum. ² Now a certain centurion's slave, who was esteemed by him, _⌊was sick_⌋* and* was about to die. ³ So when he* heard about Jesus, he sent Jewish elders to him, asking him that he would come and* cure his slave. ⁴ And when they* came to Jesus, they began imploring* him earnestly, saying, "He is worthy that you grant this for him, ⁵ because he loves our nation and he himself built the synagogue for us." ⁶ So Jesus went with them. Now by this time he was not far away from the house, and* the centurion sent friends, saying to him, "Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy that you should come in under my roof. ⁷ For this reason neither did I consider myself worthy to come to you. But say the word and my slave must be healed. ⁸ For I also am a man placed under authority, who has soldiers under me, and I say to this one, 'Go!' and he goes, and to another one, 'Come!' and he comes, and to my slave, 'Do this!' and he does it."* ⁹ And when* Jesus heard these things, he marveled at him, and turning around to the crowd that was following him, he said, "I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such great faith!" ¹⁰ And when they* returned to the house, those who had been sent found the slave healthy.

¹ Now there was a certain man in Caesarea _⌊named_⌋* Cornelius, a centurion of what was called the Italian Cohort, ² devout and fearing God together with all his household, doing many charitable deeds for the people and praying to God _⌊continually_⌋.* ³ About the ninth hour of the day, he saw clearly in a vision an angel of God coming to him and saying to him, "Cornelius." ⁴ And he stared at him and became terrified and* said, "What is it, Lord?" And he said to him, "Your prayers and your charitable deeds have gone up for a memorial offering before God. ⁵ And now, send men to Joppa and summon a certain Simon, who is also called Peter. ⁶ This man is staying as a guest with a certain Simon, a tanner,* whose house is by the sea." ⁷ And when the angel who spoke to him departed, he summoned two of the household slaves and a devout soldier from those who attended him, ⁸ and after he* had explained everything to them, he sent them to Joppa. ⁹ And the next day, as* they were on their way and approaching the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray at about the sixth hour. ¹⁰ And he became hungry and wanted to eat. But while* they were preparing the food,* a trance came over him. ¹¹ And he saw heaven opened and an object something like a large sheet coming down, being let down to the earth by its four corners, ¹² in which were all the four-footed animals and reptiles of the earth and birds of the sky. ¹³ And a voice came to him, "Get up, Peter, slaughter and eat!" ¹⁴ But Peter said, "Certainly not, Lord! For I have never eaten anything common and unclean!" ¹⁵ And the voice came again to him for the second time: "The things which God has made clean, you must not consider unclean!" ¹⁶ And this happened three times, and immediately the object was taken up into heaven. ¹⁷ Now while Peter was greatly perplexed within himself as to what the vision that he had seen might be, behold, the men who had been sent by Cornelius, having found the house of Simon by asking around, stood at the gate. ¹⁸ And they called out and* asked if Simon who was also called Peter was staying there as a guest. ¹⁹ And while* Peter was reflecting about the vision, the Spirit said to him, "Behold, men* are looking for you. ²⁰ But get up, go down, and go with them—not hesitating at all, because I have sent them." ²¹ So Peter went down to the men and* said, "Behold, I am he whom you are looking for! What is the reason for which you have come?" ²² And they said, "Cornelius, a centurion, a righteous and God-fearing man—and well spoken of by the whole nation of the Jews—was directed by a holy angel to summon you to his house and to hear words from you." ²³ So he invited them in and* entertained them as guests, and on the next day he got up and* went away with them. And some of the brothers from Joppa accompanied him. ²⁴ And on the next day he entered into Caesarea. ²⁵ So it happened that when Peter entered, Cornelius met him, fell at his* feet, and* worshiped him.* ²⁶ But Peter helped him up, saying, "Get up! I myself am also a man!" ²⁷ And as he* conversed with him, he went in and found many people gathered. ²⁸ And he said to them, "You know that it is forbidden for a Jewish man to associate with or to approach a foreigner. And to me God has shown that I should call no man common or unclean. ²⁹ Therefore—and without raising any objection—I came when I* was sent for. So I ask for what reason you sent for me." ³⁰ And Cornelius said, "_⌊Four days ago at this hour_⌋,* the ninth, I was praying in my house. And behold, a man in shining clothing stood before me ³¹ and said, 'Cornelius, your prayer has been heard, and your charitable deeds have been remembered before God. ³² Therefore send to Joppa and summon Simon who is also called Peter. This man is staying as a guest in the house of Simon, a tanner,* by the sea. ³³ Therefore I sent for you at once, and you _⌊were kind enough to come_⌋.* So now we all are present before God to hear all the things that have been commanded to you by the Lord."

²⁵ But when they had stretched him out for the lash,* Paul said to the centurion standing there, "Is it permitted for you to flog a man who is a Roman citizen and uncondemned?"

¹⁷ So Paul called one of the centurions and* said, "Bring this young man to the military tribune, because he has something to report to him."

²³ And he summoned two of the centurions and* said, "Make ready from the third hour of the night two hundred soldiers and seventy horsemen and two hundred spearmen,* in order that they may proceed as far as Caesarea.

¹³ And when* a southwest wind began to blow gently, because they* thought they could accomplish their purpose, they weighed anchor and* sailed close along Crete.

³¹ Paul said to the centurion and the soldiers, "Unless these men remain with the ship, you cannot be saved!"

⁴³ but the centurion, because he* wanted to save Paul, prevented them _⌊from doing what they intended_⌋,* and gave orders that those who were able to swim should jump in first to get to the land,

¹³ "If I have rejected my male or* female slave's case when their complaint was against me, ¹⁴ then* what shall I do when God rises up? And when he enquires, how shall I answer him?

²⁴ And a report about him went out _⌊throughout_⌋* Syria, and they brought to him all those _⌊who were sick_⌋* with various diseases and afflicted by torments, demon-possessed* and epileptics and paralytics, and he healed them.

² And behold, they brought to him a paralytic lying on a stretcher, and when* Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, "Have courage, child, your sins are forgiven."

³ And they came bringing to him a paralytic, carried by four of them. ⁴ And when* they were not able to bring him* to him because of the crowd, they removed the roof where he was. And after* digging through, they lowered the stretcher on which the paralytic was lying. ⁵ And when* Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, "Child, your sins are forgiven." ⁶ Now some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts, ⁷ "Why does this man speak like this? He is blaspheming! Who is able to forgive sins except God alone?" ⁸ And immediately Jesus, perceiving in his spirit that they were reasoning like this within themselves, said to them, "Why are you considering these things in your hearts? ⁹ Which is easier to say to the paralytic, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say 'Get up and pick up your stretcher and walk'? ¹⁰ But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins,"—he said to the paralytic— ¹¹ "I say to you, get up, pick up your stretcher, and go to your home." ¹² And he got up and immediately picked up his* stretcher and* went out in front of them all, so that they were all amazed and glorified God, saying, "We have never seen anything* like this!"

⁷ For many of those who had unclean spirits, they were coming out of them,* crying out with a loud voice, and many who were paralyzed and lame were healed.

³³ And he found there a certain man _⌊named_⌋* Aeneas who was paralyzed, who had been lying on a mat* for eight years.

⁷ And when the angel who spoke to him departed, he summoned two of the household slaves and a devout soldier from those who attended him,

¹¹ where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, barbarian, Scythian, slave, or free, but Christ is all, and in all.

¹ Masters, grant your slaves justice and fairness, knowing that you also have a master in heaven.

² And those who have believing masters must not look down on them because they are brothers, but rather they must serve, because those who benefit by their service are believers and dearly loved.

¹⁶ no longer as a slave, but more than a slave, a beloved brother, especially to me, but how much more to you, both in the flesh and in the Lord.

¹⁸ As* he was saying these things to them, behold, one of the rulers came and* knelt down before him, saying, "My daughter has just now died, but come, place your hand on her and she will live!" ¹⁹ And Jesus and his disciples got up and* followed him.

²³ And he was imploring him many times, saying, "My little daughter _⌊is at the point of death_⌋!* Come, lay your* hands on her, so that she will get well and will live." ²⁴ And he went with him, and a large crowd was following him and pressing around him.

⁶ So Jesus went with them. Now by this time he was not far away from the house, and* the centurion sent friends, saying to him, "Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy that you should come in under my roof.

¹⁰ _⌊I am not worthy_⌋* of all the loyal love and all the faithfulness that you have shown* your servant, for with only my staff I crossed this Jordan, and now I have become two camps.

⁸ "Take the staff and summon the community, you and Aaron your brother, and speak to the rock before their eyes, and it will give water. Bring out for them water from the rock, and let the community and their livestock drink."

¹⁷ The longing of the afflicted you have heard, O Yahweh. You will make their heart secure. You will _⌊listen attentively_⌋*

²⁰ He sent his word and healed them, and he delivered them from their pits.*

¹¹ I baptize you with water for repentance, but the one who comes after me is more powerful than I am, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

¹⁴ But John tried to prevent* him, saying, "_⌊I need_⌋* to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?"

³ And extending his hand he touched him, saying, "I am willing, be clean." And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.

²⁶ And he answered and* said, "It is not right to take the children's bread and throw it* to the dogs!" ²⁷ So she said, "Yes, Lord, for even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master's table."

²⁵ And Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be silent, and come out of him!" ²⁶ And after* convulsing him and crying out with a loud voice, the unclean spirit came out of him. ²⁷ And they were all amazed, so that they began to discuss with one another, saying, "What is this? A new teaching with authority! He even commands the unclean spirits and they obey him."

⁸ And when he* saw it,* Simon Peter fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, "Depart from me, Lord, because I am _⌊a sinful man_⌋!"*

⁶ So Jesus went with them. Now by this time he was not far away from the house, and* the centurion sent friends, saying to him, "Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy that you should come in under my roof. ⁷ For this reason neither did I consider myself worthy to come to you. But say the word and my slave must be healed.

¹⁹ I am no longer worthy to be called your son! Make me like one of your hired workers.'

²¹ And his* son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and _⌊in your sight_⌋!* I am no longer worthy to be called your son!'

²⁷ the one who comes after me, of whom I am not worthy _⌊to untie_⌋* the strap of his sandal!"

⁶ Then he came to Simon Peter. He said to him, "Lord, are you going to wash my feet?" ⁷ Jesus answered and said to him, "What I am doing you do not understand now, but you will understand after these things." ⁸ Peter said to him, "You will never wash my feet _⌊forever_⌋!"* Jesus replied to him, "Unless I wash you, you do not have a share with me."

³⁴ Can you lift up your voice to the clouds so that* a flood of water may cover you? ³⁵ Can you send forth lightnings, that they may go? And will they say to you, 'Here we are'?

²⁵ For he spoke and raised up a stormy wind, and it whipped up its waves. ²⁶ They rose to the heavens; they plunged to the depths. Their soul melted in their calamity. ²⁷ They reeled and staggered like a drunkard, and _⌊they were at their wits' end_⌋.* ²⁸ Then they cried out to Yahweh in their trouble, and he brought them out of their distresses. ²⁹ He made the storm be still and their waves became calm.

⁹¹ By your ordinances they stand today, for all are your servants.

⁸ fire and hail, snow and cloud,* stormy wind doing his bidding,*

⁶ Ah, sword of Yahweh, _⌊how long_⌋* will you not be quiet? Gather to your sheath, keep quiet and stand still. ⁷ How can you be quiet when Yahweh has given an order to it? Against Ashkelon and against the shore of the sea, there he has appointed it."

¹⁷ Or, if I bring a sword over that land, and I say, 'Sword, let it cross over into* the land!' And I will cut off from it both human and animal. ¹⁸ And if these three men were in the midst of it, _⌊as surely as I live_⌋,"* _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh, "they will not save sons and daughters, but _⌊they alone_⌋* will be saved. ¹⁹ And if I were to send a plague to that land, and I pour out my rage on it with blood to cut it off, both human and animal, ²⁰ and if Noah, Daniel, and Job were in the midst of her, _⌊as surely as I live_⌋,"* _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh, "surely not a son, surely not a daughter will they save by their righteousness; they would save _⌊themselves_⌋."* ²¹ For thus says the Lord Yahweh: "How much more when I send my four punishments—the evil sword, and famine, and a fierce animal, and a plague—to Jerusalem to cut it off, both human and animal!

³⁹ And he woke up and* rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, "Be quiet! Be silent!" And the wind abated and there was a great calm. ⁴⁰ And he said to them, "Why are you fearful? Do you not yet have faith?" ⁴¹ And _⌊they were terribly frightened_⌋* and began to say* to one another, "Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?"

³⁵ And Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be silent and come out of him!" And after* throwing him down in their midst, the demon came out of him without hurting him at all. ³⁶ And amazement came upon them all, and they began to talk* with one another, saying, "What word* is this? For he commands the unclean spirits with authority and power, and they come out!"

³⁹ And he stood over her and* rebuked the fever, and it left her. And immediately she got up and* began to serve* them.

⁸ For I also am a man placed under authority, who has soldiers under me, and I say to this one, 'Go!' and he goes, and to another one, 'Come!' and he comes, and to my slave, 'Do this!' and he does it."*

⁵ Slaves, obey your earthly masters with fear and trembling, in the sincerity of your heart, as to Christ, ⁶ not _⌊while being watched_⌋*, as people pleasers, but as slaves of Christ doing the will of God from the heart,

²² Slaves, obey your _⌊human_⌋* masters in everything, not _⌊while being watched_⌋*, as people pleasers, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord.

⁹ Slaves must be subject to their own masters in everything, to be well-pleasing, not to talk back,

²⁸ Then Jesus answered and said to her, "O woman, your faith is great! Let it be done for you as you want." And her daughter was healed from that hour.

⁶ And he was astonished because of their unbelief.

²⁰ And when he* saw their faith, he said, "Friend, your sins are forgiven you."

⁹ And when* Jesus heard these things, he marveled at him, and turning around to the crowd that was following him, he said, "I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such great faith!"

⁵⁰ And he said to the woman, "Your faith has saved you. Go in peace."

³ And I will bless those who bless you, and those who curse you I will curse. And all families of the earth will be blessed in you."

¹⁸ All the nations of the earth will be blessed through your offspring, because you have listened to my voice."

¹⁴ Your descendants shall be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west, and to the east, and to the north and to the south. And all the families of the earth will be blessed through you and through your descendants.

¹⁰ The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff between his feet, until Shiloh comes. And to him shall be the obedience of nations.

²⁷ All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to Yahweh. All the families of the nations will worship before you.

³ He has remembered his loyal love and his faithfulness to the house of Israel. All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation* of our God.

² And it shall happen in the future of the days the mountain of the house* of Yahweh shall be established; it will be among the highest* of the mountains, and it shall be raised from the hills. All of the nations shall travel to him; ³ many peoples shall come. And they shall say, "Come, let us go up to the mountain of Yahweh, to the house* of the God of Jacob, and may he teach us part of his ways, and let us walk in his paths." For instruction shall go out from Zion, and the word of Yahweh from Jerusalem.

¹⁰ And this shall happen on that day:
the nations shall inquire of the root of Jesse, which shall be standing as a signal to the peoples, and his resting place shall be glorious.

⁶ And he says, "It is trivial _⌊for you to be_⌋* a servant for me,
to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to bring back the preserved of Israel. I will give you as a light to the nations, to be my salvation to the end of the earth."

¹² Look! These shall come from afar, And look! These from the north and from the west and these from the land of Sinim."

¹⁰ Yahweh has bared _⌊his holy arm_⌋* to the eyes of all the nations, and all the ends* of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.

¹⁹ So* they shall fear the name of Yahweh from the west, and his glory from the sunrise, for he will come like a narrow stream; the wind of Yahweh drives it on.

¹ "Arise, shine! For your light has come, and the glory of Yahweh has risen on you. ² For look! darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples, but* Yahweh will rise on you, and his glory will appear over you. ³ And nations shall come to your light, and kings to the bright light of your sunrise. ⁴ Lift up your eyes all around and see! All of them gather; they come to you. Your sons shall come from afar, and your daughters shall be looked after on the hip. ⁵ Then you shall see and you shall be radiant; and your heart shall tremble and open itself wide, because the abundance of the sea shall fall upon you; the wealth of the nations shall come to you. ⁶ A multitude of camels shall cover you, the young male camels of Midian and Ephah. All those from Sheba shall come; they shall bring gold and frankincense, and they shall proclaim the praise of Yahweh.

¹⁹ O Yahweh, my strength, and my stronghold, and my refuge in the day of distress, to you the nations will come from the ends of the earth, and they will say, "Our ancestors* have inherited only lies,* vanity, and there is no profit in them.

⁴⁴ And _⌊in the day of those kings_⌋,* the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will _⌊never_⌋* be destroyed, and the kingdom will not be left for another nation,* and it will bring an end to all these kingdoms, but it will stand _⌊forever_⌋.*

¹ And it will be that at the end of those days, the mountain of Yahweh will be established as the highest of the mountains, and it will be lifted up above the hills, and people will stream to it. ² And many nations will come and say, "Come! Let us go up to the mountain of Yahweh, and to the _⌊temple_⌋* of the God of Jacob, that he may teach us his ways, and that we may walk in his paths," for the law will go out from Zion, and the word of Yahweh from Jerusalem.

²⁰ Thus says Yahweh of hosts: 'It will happen again that nations and the inhabitants of many cities will come. ²¹ And the inhabitants of one city will go to another city, saying, "Let us go immediately to entreat _⌊the favor of_⌋* Yahweh, to seek Yahweh of hosts—I also will go!" ²² And many peoples and powerful* nations will come to seek Yahweh of hosts in Jerusalem, and to entreat _⌊the favor of_⌋* Yahweh.' ²³ Thus says Yahweh of hosts: 'In those days ten men from _⌊all the nations of every language_⌋* will take hold of the hem of a Judean man,* saying, "Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you!" '"

¹¹ From the rising of the sun to its setting, my name is great among the nations, and in every place incense is being presented to my name, and a pure offering. For my name is great among the nations," says Yahweh of hosts.

² and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near!"

³¹ And he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect together from the four winds, from one end of heaven* to the other end of it.

³⁷ Blessed are those slaves whom the master will find on the alert when he returns! Truly I say to you that he will dress himself for service and have them recline at the table and will come by and* serve them.

²⁸ In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but yourselves thrown outside! ²⁹ And they will come from east and west, and from north and south, and will recline at the table in the kingdom of God.

²³ And the master said to the slave, 'Go out into the highways and hedges and press them* to come in, so that my house will be filled! ²⁴ For I say to you that none of those persons who were invited will taste my banquet!'"

²² Now it happened that the poor man died, and he was carried away by the angels to _⌊Abraham's side_⌋.* And the rich man also died and was buried.

⁴⁵ And those believers from the circumcision who had accompanied Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles,

¹⁸ And when they* heard these things, they became silent* and praised God, saying, "Then God has granted the repentance leading to life to the Gentiles also!"

²² strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them* to continue in the faith and saying,* "Through many persecutions* it is necessary for us to enter into the kingdom of God."

²⁷ And when they* arrived and called the church together, they reported all that God had done with them, and that he had opened a door of faith for the Gentiles.*

⁹ and that the Gentiles may glorify God for his mercy, just as it is written,
"Because of this, I will praise you among the Gentiles, and I will sing praise to your name."* ¹⁰ And again it says,
"Rejoice, Gentiles, with his people."* ¹¹ And again,
"Praise the Lord, all the Gentiles, and let all the peoples praise him."* ¹² And again Isaiah says,
"The root of Jesse will come, even the one who rises to rule over the Gentiles; in him the Gentiles will put their hope."* ¹³ Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

⁹ Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived! Neither sexually immoral people, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor passive homosexual partners, nor dominant homosexual partners,

²⁰ But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep.

²⁸ There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. ²⁹ And if you are Christ's, then you are descendants of Abraham, heirs according to the promise.

¹¹ Therefore remember that formerly you, the Gentiles in the flesh, the so-called uncircumcision by the so-called circumcision in the flesh, made by hands, ¹² that you were at that time apart from Christ, alienated from the citizenship of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, not having hope, and without God in the world. ¹³ But now in Christ Jesus you, the ones who once were far away, have become near by the blood of Christ. ¹⁴ For he himself is our peace, who made both one and broke down the dividing wall of the partition, the enmity, in his flesh,

⁶ that the Gentiles are fellow heirs, and fellow members of the body, and fellow sharers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel,

⁵ a proof of the righteous judgment of God, so that you may be considered worthy of the kingdom of God, on behalf of which also you are suffering,

²⁰ Behold, I stand at the door and knock! If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, indeed I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with me. ²¹ The one who conquers, I will grant to him to sit down with me on my throne, as I also have conquered and have sat down with my Father on his throne.

⁶ from the tribe of Asher, twelve thousand,
from the tribe of Naphtali, twelve thousand,
from the tribe of Manasseh, twelve thousand,

⁹ And do not think to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as father.' For I say to you that God is able to raise up children for Abraham from these stones! ¹⁰ Already now the ax is positioned at the root of the trees; therefore every tree not producing good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

²² On that day many will say to me, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and expel demons in your name, and perform many miracles in your name?' ²³ And then _⌊I will say to them plainly_⌋,* 'I never knew you. Depart from me, you who practice lawlessness!'

³⁸ and the field is the world. And the good seed—these are the sons of the kingdom, but the darnel are the sons of the evil one.

³⁰ And throw the worthless slave into the outer darkness—in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth!'

²⁸ In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but yourselves thrown outside!

²⁵ You are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant that God ordained with your fathers, saying to Abraham, 'And in your offspring all the nations of the earth will be blessed.'*

⁴ who are Israelites, to whom belong the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the temple service, and the promises,

⁴ For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but held them captive in Tartarus with chains of darkness and handed them over to be kept for judgment,

¹⁷ These people are waterless springs and mists driven by a hurricane, for whom the gloom of darkness has been reserved.

¹³ wild waves of the sea foaming up their own shameful deeds, wandering stars, for whom the deep gloom of darkness has been reserved for eternity.

⁷ Go—eat your food with joy, and drink your wine with a merry heart! For God already has approved your deeds.

⁴ And Jesus said to him, "See that you tell no one, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony to them."

²² But Jesus, turning around and seeing her, said, "Have courage, daughter! Your faith has healed you." And the woman was healed from that hour.

²⁹ Then he touched their eyes, saying, "According to your faith let it be done for you." ³⁰ And their eyes were opened, and Jesus sternly warned them, saying, "See that no one finds out."

²⁰ And he said to them, "Because of your little faith. For truly I say to you, if you have faith like a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you."*

²⁹ And he said to her, "Because of this statement, go! The demon has gone out of your daughter."

²³ But Jesus said to him, "If you are able! All things are possible for the one who believes!"

⁵⁰ Jesus said to him, "Go, your son will live." The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and he departed.

⁵² So he inquired from them the hour at which he had gotten better. Then they said to him, "Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him." ⁵³ So the father knew that it was that* same hour at which Jesus said to him, "Your son will live," and he himself believed, and his whole household.

²⁰ And Jesus said to him, "Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head."

²⁵ He said, "Yes." And when he* came into the house, Jesus spoke to him first, saying, "What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth collect tolls or taxes—from their own sons, or from foreigners?"

²⁹ And so then he departed from the synagogue and* came into the house of Simon and Andrew with James and John. ³⁰ Now Simon's mother-in-law was lying down, suffering with a fever, and at once they told him about her. ³¹ And he came and* raised her up by* taking hold of her* hand, and the fever left her, and she began to serve them. ³² Now when it* was evening, when the sun had set, they began bringing* to him all those _⌊who were sick_⌋* and those who were demon-possessed. ³³ And the whole town was gathered together at the door. ³⁴ And he healed many _⌊who were sick_⌋* with various diseases and expelled many demons. And he did not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him.

³⁸ And after he* set out from the synagogue, he went into Simon's house. And Simon's mother-in-law was afflicted with a high fever, and they asked him on behalf of her. ³⁹ And he stood over her and* rebuked the fever, and it left her. And immediately she got up and* began to serve* them. ⁴⁰ Now as* the sun was setting, all who had those who were sick with various diseases brought them to him, and placing his* hands on every one of them, he healed them. ⁴¹ And demons also were coming out of many, crying out and saying, "You are the Son of God!" And he rebuked them* and did not permit them to speak, because they knew that he was the Christ.*

⁵ Do we not have the right to take along a sister as wife, like the rest of the apostles and the brothers of the Lord and Cephas?

² Therefore the overseer must be irreproachable, the husband of one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, skillful in teaching,

³ who forbid marrying and insist on abstaining from foods that God created for sharing in with thankfulness by those who believe and who know the truth,

⁴ Marriage must be held in honor by all, and the marriage bed be undefiled, because God will judge sexually immoral people and adulterers.

²¹ And it happened that they were burying a man; suddenly they saw the marauding band, so they threw the man in the grave of Elisha. As he went in, the man touched the bones of Elisha, and became alive and got up on his feet!

⁷ And he touched my mouth, and he said,
"Look! This has touched your lips and has removed your guilt, and your sin is annulled."

²⁰ And behold, a woman who had been suffering with a hemorrhage twelve years approached from behind and* touched the edge* of his cloak,

²⁹ Then he touched their eyes, saying, "According to your faith let it be done for you."

³⁶ And they were imploring him that they might only touch the edge* of his cloak, and all those who touched it* were cured.

³⁴ And having compassion, Jesus touched their eyes, and immediately they received their sight and followed him.

³⁸ And after he* set out from the synagogue, he went into Simon's house. And Simon's mother-in-law was afflicted with a high fever, and they asked him on behalf of her. ³⁹ And he stood over her and* rebuked the fever, and it left her. And immediately she got up and* began to serve* them.

⁵⁴ But he took her hand and* called, saying, "Child, get up."

¹ Then, six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. ² So they made him a dinner there, and Martha was serving, but Lazarus was one of the ones reclining at table with him. ³ Then Mary took a pound* of ointment of very valuable genuine nard and* anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the ointment.

¹¹ And God was performing _⌊extraordinary_⌋* miracles by the hands of Paul, ¹² so that even handkerchiefs or work aprons _⌊that had touched his skin_⌋* were carried away to those who were sick, and their* diseases left them and the evil spirits came out of them.* ¹³ But some itinerant Jewish exorcists also attempted to pronounce the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, "I adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preaches!"

²⁶ And he said, "If you carefully listen to the voice of Yahweh your God and you do what is right in his eyes and give heed to his commands and you keep all his rules, then I will not bring about on you any of the diseases* that I brought about on Egypt, because I am Yahweh your healer.

²³ And he went around through all of Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and every sickness among the people. ²⁴ And a report about him went out _⌊throughout_⌋* Syria, and they brought to him all those _⌊who were sick_⌋* with various diseases and afflicted by torments, demon-possessed* and epileptics and paralytics, and he healed them.

³³ Now the herdsmen fled and went into the town and* reported everything, including the things concerning the demon-possessed men.

²² Then a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute was brought to him. And he healed him so that the man who was mute could speak and see.

¹⁴ And as he* got out, he saw the large crowd and had compassion on them and healed their sick.

³ And they came bringing to him a paralytic, carried by four of them.

⁸ (For he was saying to him, "Come out of the man, unclean spirit!")

⁴⁰ Now as* the sun was setting, all who had those who were sick with various diseases brought them to him, and placing his* hands on every one of them, he healed them.

¹⁵ so that they even carried out the sick into the streets and put them* on cots and mats* so that when* Peter came by, at least his* shadow would fall on some of them.

¹³ But some itinerant Jewish exorcists also attempted to pronounce the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, "I adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preaches!" ¹⁴ (Now seven sons of a certain Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this.) ¹⁵ But the evil spirit answered and* said to them, "Jesus I know, and Paul I am acquainted with, but who are you?" ¹⁶ And the man _⌊who had the evil spirit_⌋* leaped on them, subdued all of them, and* prevailed against them, so that they ran away from that house naked and wounded.

⁴ However, he was the one who lifted up our sicknesses, and he carried our pain, yet* we ourselves assumed him stricken, struck down by God and afflicted.

²² Now all this happened in order that what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet would be fulfilled, saying,

¹⁵ And he was there until the death of Herod, in order that what was said by the Lord through the prophet would be fulfilled, saying,
"Out of Egypt I called my son."

²³ And he came and* lived in a town called Nazareth, in order that what was said by the prophets would be fulfilled:* "He will be called a Nazarene." ²⁴ who himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we may die to sins and live to righteousness, by whose wounds you were healed.

¹ And when* he came down from the mountain, large crowds followed him.

²² And immediately he made the disciples get into the boat and go ahead of him to the other side, while he sent away the crowds.

³⁵ And getting up early in the morning while it was very dark, he departed and went to a deserted place, and there he was praying. ³⁶ And Simon and those who were with him searched diligently for him. ³⁷ And they found him and said to him, "Everyone is looking for you!" ³⁸ And he said to them, "Let us go elsewhere, into the neighboring rural towns, so that I can preach there also, because I have come out for this very reason."

³⁵ And on that day, when it* was evening, he said to them, "Let us cross over to the other side."

²¹ And after* Jesus had crossed over again in the boat to the other side, a large crowd gathered to him, and he was beside the sea.

⁴⁵ And immediately he made his disciples get into the boat and go on ahead to the other side, to Bethsaida, while he himself dismissed the crowd.

¹³ And he left them, got into the boat* again, and* went to the other side.

⁴² And when it* was day, he departed and* went to an isolated place. And the crowds were seeking him, and came to him and were trying to prevent him from departing from them. ⁴³ But he said to them, "It is necessary for me to proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns also, because I was sent for this purpose.

²² Now it happened that on one of the days both he and his disciples got into a boat, and he said to them, "Let us cross over to the other side of the lake." And they set sail,

¹⁵ Then Jesus, because he* knew that they were about to come and seize him in order to make him* king, withdrew again up the mountain by himself alone.

⁶ this Ezra went up from Babylonia. He was a scribe skilled in the law of Moses, which Yahweh the God of Israel gave. The king granted him all his requests, for the hand of Yahweh was upon him.

³² And the scribe said to him, "That is true, Teacher. You have said _⌊correctly_⌋* that he is one and there is no other except him. ³³ And to love him from your* whole heart and from your* whole understanding and from your* whole strength, and to love your* neighbor as yourself, is much more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices." ³⁴ And Jesus, when he* saw that he had answered thoughtfully, said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God." And no one dared to put a question to him any longer.

⁵⁷ And as* they were traveling on the road, someone said to him, "I will follow you wherever you go!" ⁵⁸ And Jesus said to him, "Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his* head." ⁵⁹ And he said to another, "Follow me!" But he said, "Lord, first allow me to go and* bury my father." ⁶⁰ But he said to him, "Leave the dead to bury their own dead! But you go and* proclaim the kingdom of God."

³³ In the same way, therefore, every one of you who does not renounce all his own possessions _⌊cannot be_⌋* my disciple.

³³ But he said to him, "Lord, I am ready to go with you both to prison and to death!" ³⁴ And he said, "I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crow today until you have denied three times that you know me!"

³⁶ Simon Peter said to him, "Lord, where are you going?" Jesus replied,* "Where I am going you cannot follow me now, but you will follow later." ³⁷ Peter said to him, "Lord, why am I not able to follow you now? I will lay down my life for you!" ³⁸ Jesus replied, "Will you lay down your life for me? Truly, truly I say to you, the rooster will not crow until you have denied me three times!

²⁰ Where is the wise person? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?

¹⁷ But I am poor and needy. Let my Lord consider me. You are my help and my deliverer. O my God, do not delay.

²⁹ But as for me, though I am afflicted and pained, your salvation will protect* me, O God.

³ Even a bird finds a home, and a swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, near your altars, O Yahweh of hosts, my king and my God.

¹⁷ where birds make their nest. The stork has its home in the fir trees.

²² for I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me.

² For* he went* up like a shoot before him, and like a root from dry ground. He had no form and no majesty that* we should see him, and no appearance that* we should take pleasure in him. ³ He was despised and rejected by men, a man of suffering, and acquainted with* sickness, and like _⌊one from whom others hide their faces_⌋,* he was despised, and we did not hold him in high regard.

¹³ "_⌊I continued watching_⌋* in the visions of the night, and look, with the clouds of heaven one like a son of man* was coming, and he came to the Ancient of Days, and _⌊was presented_⌋* before him.

⁸ For the Son of Man is lord of the Sabbath."

³² And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him. But whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him either in this age or in the coming one!

⁴⁰ For just as Jonah was in the belly of the huge fish three days and three nights, so the Son of Man will be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights.

¹³ Now when* Jesus came to the region of Caesarea _⌊Philippi_⌋,* he began asking* his disciples, saying, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?"

²⁷ For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of his Father with his angels, and at that time he will reward each one according to _⌊what he has done_⌋.*

²⁸ And Jesus said to them, "Truly I say to you that in the renewal of the world,* when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me—you also will sit on twelve thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

⁷ And she gave birth to her firstborn son, and wrapped him in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.

¹² And this will be the sign for you: you will find the baby wrapped in strips of cloth and lying in a manger."

¹⁶ And they went hurrying and found both Mary and Joseph, and the baby who was lying in the manger.

³ and Joanna the wife of Chuza (Herod's household manager), and Susanna, and many others who were helping to support them from their possessions.

⁹ For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that although he* was rich, for your sake he became poor, in order that you, by his poverty, may become rich.

¹¹ And he shall not go near any dead person, nor shall he make himself unclean for his father or* for his mother. ¹² And he shall not go out from the sanctuary, and he shall not profane his God's sanctuary, because the dedication of his God's oil of anointment is on him; I am Yahweh.

⁶ " 'All the days of keeping himself separated for Yahweh he will not go to a person who is dead; ⁷ for even his father, mother, brother, or sister he will not make himself unclean _⌊by their death_⌋,* because the separation to his God is on his head.

⁹ The one saying of his father and of his mother, 'I have not regarded them,' and his brothers he did not acknowledge, and his children* he did not know, but rather they observed your word, and your covenant they kept. ¹⁰ They taught* your regulations to Jacob, and your law to Israel; they placed incense smoke _⌊before you_⌋,* and whole burnt offerings on your altar.

²⁰ Then he left the oxen and ran after Elijah and said, "Please let me kiss my father and my mother, and then I will go after you." Then he said, "Go, return, for what I have done to you?" ²¹ So he returned from after him, and he took a pair of oxen and slaughtered them, and with the yoke of the oxen he boiled the flesh and gave it to the people and they ate. Then he arose and went after Elijah and served him.

² "Thus says Yahweh of hosts: 'This people says, "_⌊The time has not come to rebuild the temple of Yahweh_⌋.'" *

²⁹ And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife* or children or fields on account of my name will receive a hundred times as much, and will inherit eternal life.

⁵⁹ And he said to another, "Follow me!" But he said, "Lord, first allow me to go and* bury my father." ⁶⁰ But he said to him, "Leave the dead to bury their own dead! But you go and* proclaim the kingdom of God." ⁶¹ And another person also said, "I will follow you, Lord, but first allow me to say farewell to those in my house." ⁶² But Jesus said,* "No one who puts his* hand on the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God!"

¹⁶ So then, from now on we know no one _⌊from a human point of view_⌋*, if indeed we have known Christ _⌊from a human point of view_⌋*, but now we know him this way no longer.

¹⁸ Now as he* was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew, throwing a casting net into the sea (for they were fishermen). ¹⁹ And he said to them, "_⌊Follow me_⌋* and I will make you fishers of people." ²⁰ And immediately they left their nets and* followed him. ²¹ And going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and his brother John, in the boat with their father Zebedee, mending their nets, and he called them. ²² And immediately they left the boat and their father and* followed him.

⁹ And as* Jesus was going away from there, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth and said to him, "Follow me!" And he stood up and* followed him.

³² But it was necessary to celebrate and to rejoice, because this brother of yours was dead, and is alive, and was lost, and is found!'"

⁴³ On the next day he wanted to depart for Galilee, and he found Philip. And Jesus said to him, "Follow me!"

¹ And you, _⌊although you were dead_⌋** in your trespasses and sins,

⁵ and we being dead in trespasses, he made us alive together with Christ (by grace you are saved),

¹⁴ for everything made visible is light. Therefore it says,
Wake up, sleeper, and rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.*

¹³ And _⌊although you were dead_⌋** in the trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, he made you alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses,

⁶ But the one who lives for sensual pleasure is dead even though she* lives.

³⁶ And leaving the crowd, they took him along, as he was, in the boat. And other boats were with him. ³⁷ And a great storm of wind developed, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already being filled with water.* ³⁸ And he was in the stern sleeping on the cushion, and they woke him up and said to him, "Teacher, is it not a concern to you that we are perishing?"

²² And he answered and* said to them, "Go and* tell John what you have seen and heard: the blind receive sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear;* the dead are raised, the poor have good news announced to them.*

And a storm of wind came down on the lake, and they were being swamped and were in danger. ²⁴ And they came and* woke him up, saying, "Master, master! We are perishing!" So he got up and* rebuked the wind and the billowing waves of water and they ceased, and it became calm. ²⁵ And he said to them, "Where is your faith?" But they were afraid and* were astonished, saying to one another, "Who then is this, that he commands even the winds and the water and they obey him?"

²³ Those who went down to the sea into ships, doing business on the _⌊high seas_⌋,* ²⁴ they saw the works of Yahweh, and his wonderful deeds in the deep. ²⁵ For he spoke and raised up a stormy wind, and it whipped up its waves. ²⁶ They rose to the heavens; they plunged to the depths. Their soul melted in their calamity. ²⁷ They reeled and staggered like a drunkard, and _⌊they were at their wits' end_⌋.*

¹¹ "O afflicted one, driven away, who is not consoled. Look! I am about to set your stones in hard mortar, and I will lay your foundation with sapphires.

⁴ And Yahweh hurled a great wind upon the sea, and it was a great storm on the sea, and the merchant ship _⌊was in danger of breaking up_⌋.* ⁵ And the mariners were afraid, and each cried out to his god. And they threw the _⌊contents_⌋* that were in the merchant ship into the sea to lighten it for them. And meanwhile Jonah went down into the hold of the vessel and lay down and fell asleep.

³⁷ And a great storm of wind developed, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already being filled with water.* ³⁸ And he was in the stern sleeping on the cushion, and they woke him up and said to him, "Teacher, is it not a concern to you that we are perishing?"

²³ and as* they were sailing, he fell asleep. And a storm of wind came down on the lake, and they were being swamped and were in danger.

¹⁷ And getting into a boat, they began to go* to the other side of the sea, to Capernaum. And it had already become dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them. ¹⁸ And the sea began to be stirred up* because* a strong wind was blowing.

⁵ (Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.) ⁶ So when he heard that he was sick, then he remained in the place _⌊where_⌋* he was two days.

¹⁵ and I am glad _⌊for your sake_⌋* that I was not there, so that you may believe. But let us go to him."

¹⁴ But not long afterward a wind like a hurricane, called the northeaster,* rushed down from it.* ¹⁵ And when* the ship was caught and was not able to head into the wind, we gave way and* were driven along. ¹⁶ And running under the lee of a certain small island called Cauda, we were able with difficulty to get the ship's boat under control. ¹⁷ After* hoisting _⌊it up_⌋,* they made use of supports to undergird the ship. And because they* were afraid lest they run aground on the Syrtis, they lowered the sea anchor and* thus were driven along. ¹⁸ And because* we were violently battered by the storm, on the next day _⌊they began_⌋* jettisoning the cargo,* ¹⁹ and on the third day they threw overboard the gear of the ship with their own hands. ²⁰ But when* neither sun nor stars appeared for many days, and with not a little bad weather confronting us,* finally all hope was abandoned that we would be saved. ²¹ And because* many were experiencing lack of appetite, at that time Paul stood up in their midst and* said, "Men, you ought to have followed my advice not to put out to sea from Crete, and thus avoided this damage and loss! ²² And now I urge you to cheer up, for there will be no loss of life from among you, but only of the ship. ²³ For this night an angel of the God whose I am and whom I serve came to me, ²⁴ saying, 'Do not be afraid, Paul! It is necessary for you to stand before Caesar, and behold, God has graciously granted you all who are sailing with you.' ²⁵ Therefore keep up your courage, men, for I believe God that it will be like this—according to _⌊the_⌋* way it was told to me. ²⁶ But it is necessary that we run aground on some island." ²⁷ And when the fourteenth night had come, as* we were being driven in the Adriatic Sea about the middle of the night, the sailors suspected _⌊they were approaching some land_⌋.* ²⁸ And taking soundings, they found twenty fathoms. So going on a little further and taking soundings again, they found fifteen fathoms. ²⁹ And because they* were afraid lest somewhere we run aground against rough places, they threw down four anchors from the stern and* prayed for day to come. ³⁰ And when* the sailors were seeking to escape from the ship and were lowering the ship's boat into the sea, pretending as if they were going to lay out anchors from the bow, ³¹ Paul said to the centurion and the soldiers, "Unless these men remain with the ship, you cannot be saved!" ³² Then the soldiers cut away the ropes of the ship's boat and let it fall away.* ³³ And until the day was about to come, Paul was urging them all to take some food, saying, "Today is the fourteenth day you have waited anxiously, and* you have continued without eating, having taken nothing. ³⁴ Therefore I urge you to take some food, for this is necessary for your preservation. For not a hair from your head will be lost." ³⁵ And after he* said these things and took bread, he gave thanks to God in front of them all, and after* breaking it,* he began to eat. ³⁶ So they all were* encouraged and partook of food themselves. ³⁷ (Now we were in all two hundred seventy six persons on the ship.) ³⁸ And when they* had eaten their fill of food, they lightened the ship by* throwing the wheat* into the sea.

²⁵ Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I received a stoning. Three times I was shipwrecked. A day and a night I have spent in the deep water. ²⁶ I have been on journeys many times, in dangers from rivers, in dangers from robbers, in dangers from my own people, in dangers from the Gentiles, in dangers in the city, in dangers in the wilderness, in dangers at sea, in dangers because of false brothers,

¹¹ Then Asa cried out to Yahweh his God. And he said, "O Yahweh, there is none with you to help between the great and the powerless. Help us, O Yahweh our God, for we rely upon you, and in your name we have come against this multitude. O Yahweh, you are our God! Let no man prevail against you!"

¹² O our God, will you not judge them, for there is no power in us before this great multitude that is coming against us. Now we do not know what we shall do, for our eyes are upon you."

¹ Why, O Yahweh, do you stand far off? Why do you hide* during times of distress?

²² Rather, on account of you we are killed _⌊all day long_⌋;* we are accounted as sheep for slaughter. ²³ Wake up! Why do you sleep, O Lord? Awake! Do not reject forever.

⁹ Awake! Awake; put on strength, O arm of Yahweh! Awake as in days of long ago, the generations of a long time back! Are you not the one who cut Rahab in pieces, the one who pierced the sea-dragon? ¹⁰ Are you not the one who dried up the sea, the waters of the great deep, the one who _⌊made_⌋* the depths of the sea a way for those who are redeemed to cross over?

⁶ And the captain* of the ship approached him and said to him, "Why are you _⌊sound asleep_⌋?* Get up! Call on your god! Perhaps your god* will take notice of us and we won't perish!"

³⁸ And he was in the stern sleeping on the cushion, and they woke him up and said to him, "Teacher, is it not a concern to you that we are perishing?" ³⁹ And he woke up and* rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, "Be quiet! Be silent!" And the wind abated and there was a great calm.

²⁴ And they came and* woke him up, saying, "Master, master! We are perishing!" So he got up and* rebuked the wind and the billowing waves of water and they ceased, and it became calm.

⁸ "Or who shut the sea in with doors at its bursting, when it went out of the womb, ⁹ at my making the clouds its garment and thick darkness its swaddling band, ¹⁰ and I prescribed my rule for it, and I set bars and doors, ¹¹ and I said, 'You shall come up to here, but* you shall not go further, and here it will set a boundary _⌊for your proud surging waves_⌋'?*

⁷ who stills the roar of the seas, the roar of their waves, and the commotion of the peoples,

⁹ You are ruling the surging of the sea. When its waves rise, _⌊you yourself still_⌋* them.

³ The rivers have lifted up, O Yahweh; the rivers have lifted up their _⌊rumbling_⌋;* the rivers have lifted up their pounding. ⁴ Mightier than the rumblings of many waters, mightier than the mighty breakers of the sea, Yahweh on high is mighty.

⁶ You covered it with the deep as with a garment. The waters stood above the mountains. ⁷ At your rebuke they fled; at the sound of your thunder they ran off. ⁸ They ascended the mountains and drained though the valleys to the place that you established* for them. ⁹ You set a boundary that they may not cross over, so that they would not return to cover the earth.

²⁸ Then they cried out to Yahweh in their trouble, and he brought them out of their distresses. ²⁹ He made the storm be still and their waves became calm. ³⁰ Then they were glad because they grew silent, so he guided them to their desired harbor.

³ The sea looked and fled; the Jordan turned back. ⁴ The mountains skipped like rams, the hills like _⌊lambs_⌋.* ⁵ What's with you, O sea, that you fled? O Jordan, that you turned back? ⁶ O mountains, that you skipped like rams? O hills, like lambs? ⁷ At the presence of the Lord writhe, O earth,* at the presence of the God of Jacob,

²⁸ _⌊when he made_⌋* skies from above, when he founded fountains of the deep, ²⁹ _⌊when he assigned_⌋* his limits to the sea, that waters shall not transgress his _⌊command_⌋,* _⌊when he marked_⌋* the foundations of the earth,

¹⁰ You must not fear, for I am with you; you must not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, indeed I will help you, indeed I will take hold of you with the right hand of my salvation. ¹¹ Look! All those who are angry with you shall be ashamed and humiliated; _⌊your opponents_⌋* shall be like nothing and shall become lost. ¹² You shall seek them, but* you shall not find them; _⌊your opponents_⌋* shall be like nothing, and the men of your war like nothing. ¹³ For I, Yahweh your God, am grasping your right hand; _⌊it is I who say_⌋* to you, "You must not fear; I myself, I will help you. ¹⁴ You must not fear, O worm of Jacob; people of Israel, I myself, I will help you," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, "and your redeemer is the holy one of Israel.

² Why was there no man when I came, no one who answered when I called? _⌊Do I lack the strength to save_⌋?* Or is there no power in me to deliver? Look! by my rebuke I dry up the sea; I _⌊make_⌋* the rivers a desert; their fish stink because there is no water, and they* die because of thirst. ³ I clothe the heavens with darkness, and I _⌊make_⌋* their covering sackcloth." ⁴ The Lord Yahweh has given me the tongue of a pupil, to know how to help the weary with a word. He awakens _⌊morning by morning_⌋,* awakens an ear for me to listen as do the pupils.

¹² _⌊who made_⌋* his magnificent arm move _⌊at_⌋* the right hand of Moses, _⌊who divided_⌋* the waters _⌊before them_⌋,* to make an everlasting name for himself,

⁴ He rebukes the sea and he dries up the rivers; he makes all the rivers run dry. Bashan and Carmel wither;* the blossom of Lebanon languishes.

⁸ Was the anger of Yahweh against the rivers? Was your wrath against the rivers, or your fury against the sea, when you mounted upon your horses, upon your victory chariot?

³⁰ But if God dresses the grass of the field in this way, although it* is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not do so much more for you, you of little faith?

²⁷ And the men were astonished, saying, "What sort of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him?"

³⁰ But when he* saw the strong wind, he was afraid. And beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, "Lord, save me!" ³¹ And immediately Jesus extended his* hand and* caught him and said to him, "You of little faith! Why did you doubt?"

⁸ But knowing this,* Jesus said, "Why are you discussing among yourselves that you did not take bread,* you of little faith?

⁴⁸ And he saw them being beaten in their rowing* because the wind was against them. Around the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea, and he was wanting to pass by them. ⁴⁹ But when* they saw him walking on the sea, they thought that it was a ghost, and they cried out. ⁵⁰ For they all saw him and were terrified. But immediately he spoke with them and said to them, "Have courage, I am he! Do not be afraid!" ⁵¹ And he went up with them into the boat, and the wind abated. And _⌊they were extraordinarily_⌋* astounded within themselves,

²⁰ And he did not waver in unbelief at the promise of God, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God

² and holding in his hand a little scroll that was opened. And he put his right foot on the sea and his* left on the land.

³¹ So then the crowd was astonished when they* saw the mute speaking, the crippled healthy, and the lame walking, and the blind seeing, and they praised the God of Israel.

²⁷ And they were all amazed, so that they began to discuss with one another, saying, "What is this? A new teaching with authority! He even commands the unclean spirits and they obey him."

⁵¹ And he went up with them into the boat, and the wind abated. And _⌊they were extraordinarily_⌋* astounded within themselves,

³⁷ And they were amazed beyond all measure, saying, "He has done all things well! He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak!"

¹⁶ and the Jebusites, the Amorites, the Girgashites,

²¹ the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites."

¹ "When Yahweh your God brings you into the land that you are about to enter _⌊into it_⌋* to take possession of it, and he drives* out many nations _⌊before you_⌋,* the Hittites* and the Girgashites* and the Amorites* and the Canaanites* and the Hivites* and the Jebusites,* seven nations mightier and more numerous than you,

⁶ "In the days of Shamgar son of Anath, in the days of Jael, the caravans had ceased, _⌊the travelers_⌋,* _⌊they kept to the byways_⌋.*

¹ And they came to the other side of the sea,* to the region of the Gerasenes.* ² And as* he was getting out of the boat, immediately from the tombs a man with an unclean spirit went to meet him, ³ who _⌊lived_⌋* among the tombs. And no one was able to bind him any longer, not even with a chain, ⁴ because he had often been bound with shackles and chains, and the chains had been torn apart by him, and the shackles had been shattered. And no one was strong enough to subdue him. ⁵ And during every night and day among the tombs and on the mountains he was crying out and cutting himself with stones. ⁶ And when he* saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and knelt down before him. ⁷ And crying out with a loud voice he said, "_⌊What have I to do with you_⌋*, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I implore you by God, do not torment me!" ⁸ (For he was saying to him, "Come out of the man, unclean spirit!") ⁹ And he was asking him "_⌊What is your name_⌋?"* And he said to him, "My name is Legion, because we are many." ¹⁰ And he was imploring him many times that he would not send them out of the region. ¹¹ Now a large herd of pigs was there at the hill feeding, ¹² and they implored him, saying, "Send us to the pigs so that we may enter into them." ¹³ And he permitted them. And the unclean spirits came out and* entered into the pigs, and the herd—about two thousand—rushed headlong down the steep slope into the sea and were drowned in the sea. ¹⁴ And their herdsmen fled and reported it* in the town and in the countryside, and they came to see what it was that had happened. ¹⁵ And they came to Jesus and saw the demon-possessed man sitting there clothed and in his right mind—the one who had had the legion—and they were afraid. ¹⁶ And those who had seen it* described to them what had happened to the demon-possessed man, and about the pigs. ¹⁷ And they began to urge him to depart from their region. ¹⁸ And as* he was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed began to implore* him that he could go with him. ¹⁹ And he did not permit him, but said to him, "Go to your home to your people and tell them all that the Lord has done for you, and that he has had mercy on you." ²⁰ And he went away and began to proclaim in the Decapolis all that Jesus had done for him, and they were all astonished.

²⁶ And they sailed to the region of the Gerasenes, which is opposite Galilee. ²⁷ And as* he got out on the land, a certain man from the town met him* who had demons and for a considerable time had not worn clothes and did not live in a house, but among the tombs. ²⁸ And when he* saw Jesus, he cried out, fell down before him, and said with a loud voice, "_⌊What do I have to do with you_⌋,* Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you, do not torment me!" ²⁹ For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. (For it had seized him many times, and he was bound with chains and shackles and* was guarded, and breaking the bonds he would be driven by the demon into the deserted places.) ³⁰ So Jesus asked him, "What is your name?" And he said, "Legion," because many demons had entered into him. ³¹ And they began imploring* him that he would not order them to depart into the abyss. ³² Now there was a large herd of pigs feeding there on the hill, and they implored him that he would permit them to enter into those pigs. And he permitted them. ³³ So the demons came out of the man and* entered into the pigs, and the herd rushed headlong down the steep slope into the lake and were drowned. ³⁴ And when* the herdsmen saw what had happened, they fled and reported it* in the town and in the countryside. ³⁵ So they went out to see what had happened, and they came to Jesus and found the man from whom the demons had gone out sitting there clothed and in his right mind, at the feet of Jesus, and they were afraid. ³⁶ And those who had seen it* reported to them how the man who had been demon-possessed had been healed. ³⁷ And all the people of the surrounding region of the Gerasenes asked him to depart from them, because they had been seized with great fear. So he got into the boat and* returned. ³⁸ And the man from who the demons had gone out was begging him to stay with him, but he sent him away, saying, ³⁹ "Return to your home and tell all that God has done for you." And he went away, proclaiming throughout the whole town all that Jesus had done for him.

³⁸ Jesus of Nazareth—how God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, because God was with him.

¹² And Jephthah sent messengers to the king of the _⌊Ammonites_⌋,* saying, "What is between you and me that you have come to me to make war against my land?"

¹⁰ The king said, "_⌊What do we have in common_⌋,* sons of Zeruiah? If* he curses because Yahweh has said to him 'Curse David,' who can say, "Why have you done this?"

²² Then David said, "What is it to me or to you, sons of Zeruiah, that you should be an adversary today? Should anyone be put to death in Israel? Do I not know today that I am king over Israel?"

¹⁸ She said to Elijah, "_⌊What do you have against me_⌋,* O man of God, that you have come to me to make known my guilt and to cause my son to die?"

⁴ What are you to me, O Tyre and O Sidon, and all of the regions of Philistia? Are you repaying to me what is deserved? If you are recompensing me, I will return swiftly and quickly what you deserve on your head!

³ And the tempter approached and* said to him, "If you are the Son of God, order that these stones become bread."

²⁴ saying, "_⌊Leave us alone_⌋,* Jesus the Nazarene! Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!"

¹¹ And the unclean spirits, whenever they saw him, were falling down before him and crying out, saying, "You are the Son of God!"

⁷ And crying out with a loud voice he said, "_⌊What have I to do with you_⌋*, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I implore you by God, do not torment me!"

³⁴ "Ha! _⌊Leave us alone_⌋,* Jesus the Nazarene! Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!"

⁴¹ And demons also were coming out of many, crying out and saying, "You are the Son of God!" And he rebuked them* and did not permit them to speak, because they knew that he was the Christ.*

²⁸ And when he* saw Jesus, he cried out, fell down before him, and said with a loud voice, "_⌊What do I have to do with you_⌋,* Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you, do not torment me!"

⁴ And Jesus said to her, "What _⌊does your concern have to do with me_⌋,* woman? My hour has not yet come."

¹⁷ She followed Paul and us and* was crying out, saying, "These men are slaves of the Most High God, who are proclaiming to you the way of salvation!"

¹⁹ You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe, and shudder!

⁶ And the angels who did not keep to their own domain but deserted their proper dwelling place, he has kept in eternal bonds under deep gloom for the judgment of the great day,

⁷ and the pig, because it has a divided hoof and has a split cleft in* the hoof but it does not chew cud—it is unclean for you.

⁸ And also the pig _⌊because it has a division of the hoof_⌋* _⌊but does not chew the cud_⌋;* it is unclean for you; from their meat you shall not eat, and you shall not touch their _⌊carcasses_⌋.*

³ the people _⌊who provoke_⌋* me to anger continually to my face, slaughtering for sacrifices in the garden, and making smoke offerings on bricks, ⁴ _⌊who sit_⌋* in graves and spend the night in _⌊secret places_⌋,* _⌊who eat_⌋* the flesh of swine with* a fragment* of impurity in their vessels,

³ The one who slaughters a bull strikes a man; the one who slaughters a lamb for sacrifice breaks the neck of a dog. The one who offers an offering, the blood of swine; the one who offers frankincense blesses an idol. Indeed, they themselves have chosen their ways, and their soul delights in their abhorrence.

¹¹ Now a large herd of pigs was there at the hill feeding,

³² Now there was a large herd of pigs feeding there on the hill, and they implored him that he would permit them to enter into those pigs. And he permitted them.

¹⁵ And he went and* hired himself out to one of the citizens of that country, and he sent him into his fields to tend pigs. ¹⁶ And he was longing to fill his stomach with* the carob pods that the pigs were eating, and no one was giving anything* to him.

¹² and they implored him, saying, "Send us to the pigs so that we may enter into them."

³⁰ So Jesus asked him, "What is your name?" And he said, "Legion," because many demons had entered into him. ³¹ And they began imploring* him that he would not order them to depart into the abyss. ³² Now there was a large herd of pigs feeding there on the hill, and they implored him that he would permit them to enter into those pigs. And he permitted them. ³³ So the demons came out of the man and* entered into the pigs, and the herd rushed headlong down the steep slope into the lake and were drowned.

¹² Because of this, rejoice, you heavens, and those who live in them! Woe to the earth and to the sea, because the devil has come down to you, having great anger, because he* knows that he has little time!"

¹ And I saw an angel descending from heaven, holding the key of the abyss and a great chain in his hand. ² And he seized the dragon—the ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan—and bound him for a thousand years,

²² He said, 'I will go out and I will be a false spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.' And he* said, 'You shall entice and succeed, go out and do so.'

¹⁰ Have you* not put a fence around him and his household and around _⌊all that belongs to him_⌋* _⌊on every side_⌋?* You have blessed the work of his hands, and his livestock* has increased in the land. ¹¹ But,* on the other hand, stretch out* your hand and touch _⌊all that belongs to him_⌋* and see _⌊whether_⌋* he will _⌊curse_⌋* you to your face." ¹² So* Yahweh said to Satan,* "Look, _⌊all that belongs to him_⌋* is in your _⌊power_⌋.* Only do not stretch out your hand _⌊against_⌋* him." So* Satan* went out from Yahweh's _⌊presence_⌋.* ¹³ And then there was one day when* his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their firstborn brother's house. ¹⁴ And a messenger came to Job and said, "The oxen were plowing, and the female donkeys were feeding _⌊beside them_⌋.* ¹⁵ Then* the Sabeans _⌊attacked_⌋,* and they took them, and they slew the servants _⌊by the edge of the sword_⌋.* But* I escaped, even I alone, to tell you." ¹⁶ While this one was still speaking, _⌊another_⌋* came and said, "The fire of God fell from the heavens, and it blazed up against the sheep and goats and against the servants, and it consumed them. But I escaped, even I alone, to tell you." ¹⁷ While this one was still speaking, _⌊another_⌋* came and said, "The Chaldeans formed three divisions, and they made a raid on the camels, and they carried them away, and they struck your servants _⌊by the edge of the sword_⌋,* but I escaped, even I alone, to tell you." ¹⁸ At the time* this one was speaking, _⌊another_⌋* came and said, "Your sons and your daughters were eating and drinking wine in their firstborn brother's house. ¹⁹ And behold,* a great wind came from across the desert, and it struck the four corners of the house _⌊so that_⌋* it fell upon the young people, and they died. But I escaped, even I alone, to tell you."

³ So* Yahweh _⌊asked_⌋* Satan,* "Have you _⌊considered_⌋* my servant Job? Indeed,* there is no one like him on the earth—a blameless man and upright and God-fearing and turning away from evil. And still he persists in his blamelessness _⌊even though_⌋* you incited me against him to destroy him for nothing." ⁴ Then* Satan* answered him and said, "Skin for skin! All that _⌊that_⌋* man has he will give for his life. ⁵ But stretch out* your hand and touch his bones and his flesh, and see _⌊whether_⌋* he will _⌊curse_⌋* you to your face."* ⁶ So* Yahweh said to Satan,* "_⌊All right_⌋,* he is in your _⌊power_⌋.* Only spare his life." ⁷ So* Satan* went out from _⌊Yahweh's presence_⌋,* and he inflicted Job with loathsome skin sores from the sole of his foot up to the crown of his head. ⁸ _⌊So_⌋* he took for himself a potsherd with which to scrape himself, and he sat in the midst of the ashes.

¹³ And he permitted them. And the unclean spirits came out and* entered into the pigs, and the herd—about two thousand—rushed headlong down the steep slope into the sea and were drowned in the sea.

³³ So the demons came out of the man and* entered into the pigs, and the herd rushed headlong down the steep slope into the lake and were drowned.

²³ this man, delivered up by the determined plan and foreknowledge of God, you executed by* nailing to a cross* through the hand of lawless men.

²⁸ to do all that your hand and plan* had predestined to take place.

⁷ And when the thousand years are completed, Satan will be released from his prison

¹⁴ And their herdsmen fled and reported it* in the town and in the countryside, and they came to see what it was that had happened. ¹⁵ And they came to Jesus and saw the demon-possessed man sitting there clothed and in his right mind—the one who had had the legion—and they were afraid. ¹⁶ And those who had seen it* described to them what had happened to the demon-possessed man, and about the pigs.

³⁴ And when* the herdsmen saw what had happened, they fled and reported it* in the town and in the countryside. ³⁵ So they went out to see what had happened, and they came to Jesus and found the man from whom the demons had gone out sitting there clothed and in his right mind, at the feet of Jesus, and they were afraid. ³⁶ And those who had seen it* reported to them how the man who had been demon-possessed had been healed.

¹⁵ But the evil spirit answered and* said to them, "Jesus I know, and Paul I am acquainted with, but who are you?" ¹⁶ And the man _⌊who had the evil spirit_⌋* leaped on them, subdued all of them, and* prevailed against them, so that they ran away from that house naked and wounded. ¹⁷ And this became known to all who lived in Ephesus, both Jews and Greeks, and fear fell upon them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was exalted.

²⁵ And so then why shall we die, for this great fire will consume us if _⌊we continue_⌋* to hear the voice of Yahweh our God any longer, and so we shall die?

⁴ So Samuel did what Yahweh said. He came to Bethlehem, and the elders of the city came trembling to meet him. They said, "_⌊Have you come in peace_⌋?"*

¹⁷ When Ahab saw Elijah, Ahab said to him, "Is this you who throws Israel into confusion?"

¹⁴ And they say to God, 'Turn away from us, for* we do not desire to know your ways.

¹⁷ Those who said to God, 'Turn away from us,' and 'What can Shaddai do to us?'

²⁹ And behold, they cried out, saying, "_⌊What do you have to do with us_⌋,* Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?"*

¹⁷ And they began to urge him to depart from their region. ¹⁸ And as* he was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed began to implore* him that he could go with him.

³⁹ And they came and* apologized to* them, and after they* brought them* out they asked them* to depart from the city.
