Tell me, if you possess understanding. ⁵ Who determined its measurement? Yes, you do know. Or who stretched the measuring line upon it? ⁶ On what were its bases sunk? Or who laid its cornerstone, ⁷ when the morning stars were singing together and all the sons of God* shouted for joy? ⁸ "Or who shut the sea in with doors at its bursting, when it went out of the womb, ⁹ at my making the clouds its garment and thick darkness its swaddling band, ¹⁰ and I prescribed my rule for it, and I set bars and doors, ¹¹ and I said, 'You shall come up to here, but* you shall not go further, and here it will set a boundary _⌊for your proud surging waves_⌋'?* ¹² "Have you _⌊ever in your life_⌋* commanded the morning? Have you made the dawn know its place, ¹³ to take hold of the earth's skirts so that* the wicked might be shaken off from it? ¹⁴ It is changed like clay under a seal, and they appear like a garment. ¹⁵ And their light is withheld from the wicked, and their uplifted arm is broken. ¹⁶ "Have you entered into the sea's sources? Or have you walked around in the recesses of the deep? ¹⁷ Have the gates of death been revealed to you? Or have you seen the gates of deep shadow? ¹⁸ Have you considered closely the earth's vast expanse? Declare it, if you know all of it. ¹⁹ "Where then* is the way where the light dwells? And where then* is its place, ²⁰ that you may take it to its territory, and that you might discern the paths to its home? ²¹ You know, for you were born then, and the number of your days is great. ²² Have you entered into the storehouses of the snow, or* have you seen the storehouses of the hail, ²³ which I have reserved for the time of trouble, for the day of battle and war? ²⁴ Where then* is the way where the light is distributed, where he scatters the east wind upon the earth? ²⁵ "Who has cut open a channel for the torrents and a way for the _⌊thunder bolts_⌋,* ²⁶ to bring rain on a land _⌊where no one lives_⌋,* a desert _⌊where no humans live_⌋,* ²⁷ to satisfy desert and wasteland, and to cause the ground to put forth the rising of grass? ²⁸ Is there a father for the rain, or who fathered the drops of dew? ²⁹ From whose womb did the ice come forth, and who fathered the frost of heaven? ³⁰ Like stone the waters become hard, and the faces of the deep freeze. ³¹ "Can you bind the chains of the Pleiades, or can you loosen the cords of Orion? ³² Can you lead forth the southern constellations at their appointed time, or* can you lead the Bear with its children? ³³ Do you know heaven's statutes, or can you establish their rule on the earth? ³⁴ Can you lift up your voice to the clouds so that* a flood of water may cover you? ³⁵ Can you send forth lightnings, that they may go? And will they say to you, 'Here we are'? ³⁶ Who has put wisdom in the ibis,* or who has given understanding to the rooster?* ³⁷ Who can number the clouds with wisdom? Or* who can tilt heaven's jars, ³⁸ at the flowing of the dust into a cast and the clods cling together? ³⁹ "Can you hunt prey for the lion? And can you satisfy the hunger of strong lions ⁴⁰ when they are crouched in the dens, when they lie in the thicket in an ambush? ⁴¹ Who prepares for the crow its prey, when its young ones cry to God for help, and they wander around _⌊for lack of food_⌋?*

¹⁶ _⌊And_⌋* on the third day, when it was morning, there was thunder and lightning, and a heavy cloud over the mountain and a very loud ram's horn sound, and all the people who were in the camp trembled. ¹⁷ And Moses brought the people out from the camp to meet God, and they took their stand at the foot of the mountain. ¹⁸ And Mount Sinai was all wrapped in smoke because Yahweh went down on it in the fire, and its smoke went up like the smoke of a smelting furnace, and the whole mountain trembled greatly. ¹⁹ And the sound of the ram's horn became _⌊louder and louder_⌋,* and Moses would speak, and God would answer him with a voice.

¹¹ And so you came near, and you stood under the mountain, and the mountain was burning with fire up to the heart of the heaven, _⌊dark with a very thick cloud_⌋.* ¹² And Yahweh spoke to you from the midst of the fire; _⌊you heard_⌋* a sound of words, but _⌊you did not see_⌋* a form—only a voice.

²² "These words Yahweh spoke to your whole assembly at the mountain from the midst of the fire and the very thick cloud with a loud voice, and _⌊he did not add anything_⌋,* and then he wrote them on two tablets of stone and gave them to me. ²³ _⌊And then_⌋* _⌊when you heard_⌋* the voice from the midst of the darkness, and as the mountain was burning with fire, and and all the heads of your tribes and your elders approached me, ²⁴ you said, 'Look, Yahweh our God has shown us his glory and his greatness, and we have heard his voice from the midst of the fire; this day we have seen* that God can speak with a human being, _⌊yet he remains alive_⌋.*

¹¹ He* said, "Go out and stand on the mountain before Yahweh." Suddenly Yahweh was passing by, with a great and strong wind ripping the mountains and crushing rocks before Yahweh; but Yahweh was not in the wind. After the wind, there was an earthquake; but Yahweh was not in the earthquake.

¹ When Yahweh was about to take Elijah up in the storm to heaven, Elijah and Elisha went from Gilgal.

¹¹ Then they were walking, talking as they went. Suddenly a fiery chariot with horses of fire appeared and separated between the two of them. Elijah went up in the storm to the heavens

¹ "About this also my heart trembles, and it leaps from its place. ² Listen carefully to his voice's thunder and the rumbling that goes out from his mouth.

⁹ "The storm wind comes from its chamber and cold from the north wind.

¹⁴ "Hear this, Job; stand still and consider carefully God's wondrous works.

⁶ Then* Yahweh answered Job from the storm, and he said,

⁴ And I looked,* and look! A storm wind was coming from the north, a great cloud, and fire flashing back and forth, and brightness around and _⌊within it_⌋,* and from its midst* it was like the outward appearance of amber stone from the midst* of the fire.

³ Yahweh is slow to anger but great in power; he will certainly not allow the guilty to go unpunished. _⌊He marches_⌋* in storm wind and in gale; storm clouds are the dust of his feet.

³ _⌊I also have insight_⌋* like you;* I am not more inferior than you.* And _⌊who does not know things like these_⌋?*

⁴ I would lay my case _⌊before him_⌋,* and I would fill my mouth with arguments. ⁵ I want to know the words with which he would answer me, and I want to understand what he would say to me.

²⁵ "And if it is not so, then who can prove me a liar and reduce my word to nothing?"

³ How you* have advised _⌊one who has no wisdom_⌋!* And what sound wisdom you* have made known _⌊in abundance_⌋!*

¹¹ "I will teach you* about* God's hand; I will not conceal that which is with Shaddai.

³⁵ 'Job speaks without knowledge, and his words are without insight.

¹⁶ _⌊therefore_⌋* Job opens his mouth in empty talk— without knowledge he multiplies words."

³ 'Who is this darkening counsel without knowledge?' Therefore I uttered, but* I did not understand; _⌊things too wonderful for me_⌋,* but I did not know.

⁷ wanting to be teachers of the law, although they* do not understand either the things which they are saying or the things concerning which they are speaking confidently.

¹¹ And this is how you will eat it—with your waists fastened, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand, and you will eat it in haste. It is Yahweh's Passover.

⁴⁶ but the hand of Yahweh was on Elijah; he girded up his loins and ran before Ahab as one comes to Jezreel.

¹⁵ Look,* though he kill me, I will hope in* him; however, I will defend my ways _⌊before him_⌋.*

²² Then* call, and I myself* will answer; or let me speak, then* reply to me.

³ _⌊O that_⌋* I knew and that I might find him; O that I might come to his dwelling. ⁴ I would lay my case _⌊before him_⌋,* and I would fill my mouth with arguments. ⁵ I want to know the words with which he would answer me, and I want to understand what he would say to me. ⁶ Would he contend with me in the greatness of his strength? No, but he himself* would give heed to me. ⁷ There an upright person could reason with him, and I would be acquitted forever by my judge.

³⁵ _⌊O that_⌋* _⌊I had_⌋* someone hearing me! Here is my signature; let Shaddai answer me! _⌊As for_⌋* the written communication that _⌊my adversary_⌋* has written, ³⁶ I would _⌊surely_⌋* carry it on my shoulder; I would bind it on me like a crown. ³⁷ I would give him an account of my steps; I would approach him like a noble.

⁷ "_⌊Prepare yourself for a difficult task like a man_⌋,* and I will question you, and you shall declare to me.

¹⁷ But you, you must gird your loins, and stand, and speak to them all that I command you. _⌊Do not be afraid of them_⌋,* or I will shatter you _⌊before_⌋* them.

¹³ Therefore, _⌊when you have prepared your minds for action_⌋* by* being self-controlled, put your hope completely in the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

¹ In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth—

²⁵ Long ago you laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands.

⁵ He established the earth on her foundations, so that it will not be moved forever and ever.

²² "Yahweh possessed* me, the first of his ways, before his acts _⌊of old_⌋.*

² in these last days he has spoken to us by a Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, through whom also he made the world,*

"You, Lord, laid the foundation of the earth in the beginning, and the heavens are the works of your hands;

⁹ Its measure is longer than the earth and broader than the sea.

⁴ Yet in all the world their line* goes out, and their words to the end of the world. In them* he has pitched a tent for the sun,

⁵⁵ And he drove out nations before them and allocated them for an inheritance by boundary line, and settled the tribes of Israel in their tents.

²⁷ _⌊when he established_⌋* the heavens, there I was, _⌊when he drew_⌋* a circle upon the face of the deep,

²⁹ _⌊when he assigned_⌋* his limits to the sea, that waters shall not transgress his _⌊command_⌋,* _⌊when he marked_⌋* the foundations of the earth,

¹¹ But* the large bird and the hedgehog shall take possession of it, and the owl and the raven shall live in it. And he shall stretch the measuring line of confusion out over it, and the plumb line of emptiness.

¹² Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand and marked off the heavens with a span, comprehended the dust of the earth in a third of a measure and weighed out the mountains in the scales,* and the hills in a balance?

²² He is the one who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; the one who stretches out the heavens like a veil and spreads them out like a tent to live in,

¹ And I _⌊looked up_⌋* and I saw, and look, a man, and in his hand was a measuring rope! ² And I asked, "Where are you going?" And he answered me, "To measure Jerusalem to see what is its width and what is its length."

¹⁶ so that we may proclaim the gospel in the regions that lie beyond you, and not boast in the things accomplished in the area assigned to someone else.

¹⁸ And you will make the frames* for the tabernacle with twenty frames* for the _⌊south_⌋* side. ¹⁹ And you will make forty silver bases under the twenty frames,* with two bases under the one frame* for its two _⌊pegs_⌋* and two bases under the _⌊next_⌋* frame* for its two _⌊pegs_⌋.* ²⁰ And for the second side of the tabernacle, the north side, there will be twenty frames* ²¹ and their forty silver bases, with two bases under the one frame* and two bases under the _⌊next_⌋* frame.* ²² "And for the rear of the tabernacle _⌊on the west_⌋* you will make six frames.* ²³ And you will make two frames* for the tabernacle corners at the rear. ²⁴ They will be double at the bottom, and they will be completely together on its top to the one ring; it will be likewise for the two of them; they will be for the two corners. ²⁵ And there will be eight frames* and their silver bases, sixteen bases, with two bases under the one frame* and two bases under the _⌊next_⌋* frame.*

⁸ He raises up the poor from the dust. From the ash heap he lifts up the needy, to cause them to sit with noble people and to cause them to inherit a seat of honor. For the pillars of the earth belong to Yahweh and he has set the inhabited world on them.

⁷ He stretches out the north over emptiness; he hangs the earth _⌊over nothing_⌋.*

² because he has founded it on the seas, and has established it on the rivers.

¹ Yahweh is king; he clothes himself with majesty. Yahweh clothes himself; he girds himself with might. Yes, the world is established so that it will not be moved.

²² The stone the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone.

¹² that our sons may be like plants, full grown in their youth, our daughters like corner pillars, carved in the style of a palace,

¹⁶ Therefore the Lord Yahweh says this:
"Look! I am laying a stone in Zion, a _⌊tested_⌋* stone, a precious cornerstone, a founded foundation:
'The one who trusts will not _⌊panic_⌋.'*

¹ An oracle. The word of Yahweh concerning Israel. "_⌊Thus declares_⌋* Yahweh, who stretches out the heavens, founds the earth, and forms the spirit of humankind in its midst:*

²⁰ built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone,* ²¹ in whom the whole building, joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord,

⁵ For when* they maintain this, it escapes their notice that the heavens existed long ago and the earth held together out of water and through water by the word of God,

¹¹ And they _⌊sang responsively_⌋,* with praising and thanksgiving to Yahweh saying, "For he is good, for his loyal love is everlasting for Israel."
And all of the people responded with a great shout of joyful acclaim in praise to Yahweh because the house of Yahweh was laid. ¹² But many of the elderly priests, Levites, and heads of the families who had seen the first temple, wept with a loud voice when they saw the foundation of this house, but many _⌊shouted aloud with joy_⌋.*

⁶ And it happened _⌊one day_⌋* _⌊that_⌋* the sons of God* came to present themselves before Yahweh, and Satan* also came into their midst.

⁴ who makes his messengers the winds, his attendants a flame of fire.

⁷ 'Who are you O great mountain? _⌊Before_⌋* Zerubbabel you will become level ground, and he will bring out the top stone amid the shouts of "Grace, grace to it!" '"

²⁸ as I also have received from my Father, and I will give him the morning star.

¹¹ And I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne and of the living creatures and of the elders, and their number was ten thousand times ten thousand and thousands times thousands,

¹⁶ "I, Jesus, sent my angel to testify to you about these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star."

⁹ And God said, "Let the waters under heaven* be gathered to one place, and let the dry ground appear." And it was so.

¹⁰ and I prescribed my rule for it, and I set bars and doors,

⁷ He gathered the waters of the sea like a heap. He put the deeps in storehouses.

⁸ They ascended the mountains and drained though the valleys to the place that you established* for them. ⁹ You set a boundary that they may not cross over, so that they would not return to cover the earth.

²² Do you not revere me?" _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, "Do you not tremble _⌊before me_⌋?* For I have placed the sand as a boundary for the sea, _⌊as an everlasting limit_⌋,* and it cannot pass over it, and they rise and fall loudly, but they cannot prevail, and its waves roar, but they cannot pass over it.

² Now* the earth was formless and empty, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.

⁹ And God said, "Let the waters under heaven* be gathered to one place, and let the dry ground appear." And it was so. ¹⁰ And God called the dry ground "earth," and he called the collection of the waters "seas." And God saw that it was good.

¹⁵ Then* I will remember my covenant that is between me and you, and between every living creature, with all flesh. And the waters of a flood will never again _⌊cause the destruction_⌋* of all flesh.

¹⁰ _⌊He has described a circle_⌋* on the face of the water _⌊between light and darkness_⌋.*

⁹ You set a boundary that they may not cross over, so that they would not return to cover the earth.

²² In all this, Job did not sin and did not _⌊charge God with wrongdoing_⌋.*

⁶ So* Yahweh said to Satan,* "_⌊All right_⌋,* he is in your _⌊power_⌋.* Only spare his life."

⁶ who established the mountains by his strength, the one who is girded with might, ⁷ who stills the roar of the seas, the roar of their waves, and the commotion of the peoples,

¹⁰ For the anger of humankind will praise you. You will put on the remnant of anger.*

⁹ You are ruling the surging of the sea. When its waves rise, _⌊you yourself still_⌋* them.

³ The rivers have lifted up, O Yahweh; the rivers have lifted up their _⌊rumbling_⌋;* the rivers have lifted up their pounding. ⁴ Mightier than the rumblings of many waters, mightier than the mighty breakers of the sea, Yahweh on high is mighty.

⁸ By expelling* her, by her sending away, you argue with her. He removed them with his strong wind, in the day of the east wind.

³⁹ And he woke up and* rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, "Be quiet! Be silent!" And the wind abated and there was a great calm. ⁴⁰ And he said to them, "Why are you fearful? Do you not yet have faith?" ⁴¹ And _⌊they were terribly frightened_⌋* and began to say* to one another, "Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?"

³² Now there was a large herd of pigs feeding there on the hill, and they implored him that he would permit them to enter into those pigs. And he permitted them. ³³ So the demons came out of the man and* entered into the pigs, and the herd rushed headlong down the steep slope into the lake and were drowned.

² And he seized the dragon—the ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan—and bound him for a thousand years, ³ and threw him into the abyss, and shut it and sealed it above him, in order that he could not deceive the nations again until the thousand years are completed. After these things it is necessary for him to be released for a short time.

⁷ And when the thousand years are completed, Satan will be released from his prison ⁸ and he will go out to deceive the nations that are at the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to assemble them for battle, _⌊whose number_⌋* is like the sand of the sea.

⁵ And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.

⁹ for we are of yesterday, and we do not know, for our days on earth are a shadow.

⁷ "Were you born the firstborn of the human race? And were you brought forth _⌊before_⌋* the hills?

⁴ "Where were you at my laying the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you possess understanding.

²¹ You know, for you were born then, and the number of your days is great.

¹⁶ Yours is the day, yours is the night also. You established light and the sun.

⁷ To him who made the great lights, for his loyal love endures forever. ⁸ The sun to rule the day, for his loyal love endures forever.

³ Praise him, sun and moon; praise him, all stars of light. ⁴ Praise him, _⌊highest heavens_⌋,* and waters above the heavens. ⁵ Let them praise the name of Yahweh, because he commanded and they were created.

⁷⁸ because of the merciful compassion* of our God by which the dawn will visit to help us from on high,

¹⁹ and we possess as more reliable the prophetic word, to which you do well if you* pay attention to it as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts,

²⁷ And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the sea returned _⌊at daybreak_⌋* to its normal level, and the Egyptians were fleeing _⌊because of it_⌋,* and Yahweh swept the Egyptians into the middle of the sea.

¹³ "Those are among the ones rebelling against the light; they do not recognize his ways, and they do not stay in his paths. ¹⁴ _⌊At dusk_⌋* the murderer rises; he kills the needy and the poor, and in the night he is like a* thief. ¹⁵ And the eye of the adulterer waits for dusk, saying, _⌊'No eye will see me,'_⌋* and he places a covering on his face. ¹⁶ He digs through houses in the darkness; by day they shut themselves in— they do not know the light ¹⁷ because morning likewise is to them deep darkness; indeed, they know about the terrors of deep darkness.

³ He lets it loose under all the heavens, and his lightning to the earth's corners.

⁴ Yet in all the world their line* goes out, and their words to the end of the world. In them* he has pitched a tent for the sun, ⁵ and it is like a bridegroom who comes out of his bridal chamber. It is glad like a strong man to run its course. ⁶ Its rising is from one* end of the heavens and its circuit to the other end* of them; and nothing is hidden from its heat.

²¹ The young lions are roaring for the prey and seeking their food from God. ²² When the sun rises, they gather together and lie down in their dens.

³⁵ Let sinners perish completely from the earth, and the wicked _⌊not remain alive_⌋.* Bless Yahweh, O my soul. Praise Yah.*

⁹ If I lift up the wings of the dawn, and I alight on the far side of the sea, ¹⁰ even there your hand would lead me, and your right hand would hold me fast. ¹¹ And if I should say, "Surely darkness will cover me, and the light around me will be as night," ¹² even the darkness is not too dark for you,* and the night shines as the day— the darkness and the light are alike for you.

² you who cover yourself with light as with a garment, who stretch out the heavens like a tent curtain,

⁶ You covered it with the deep as with a garment. The waters stood above the mountains.

²¹ And Yahweh said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand toward the heavens so that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt and so that a person can feel darkness." ²² And Moses stretched out his hand toward the heavens, and there was darkness of night in all the land of Egypt for three days. ²³ No one could see his brother, and _⌊because of it no one could move from where they were_⌋* for three days, but there was light for the _⌊Israelites_⌋* in their dwellings.

¹⁸ They came down to him, and Elisha prayed to Yahweh and said, "Please strike this people with blindness," so he struck them with blindness as _⌊Elisha had spoken_⌋.*

¹⁴ In the daytime they meet with darkness, and they grope at noon* as in the night.

⁵ Furthermore,* the light of the wicked is put out, and the flame of his fire will not shine.

¹⁸ "They thrust him from light into darkness, and they drive him out from the world.

¹⁵ Break the arm of the wicked, and as for the evil man— seek out his wickedness until you find none.

¹⁷ For the arms of the wicked shall be broken, but Yahweh supports the righteous.

¹⁹ The way of the wicked ones is like deep darkness; they do not know what they stumble over.

²¹ And it* will pass through it* distressed and hungry, and this shall happen: when it is hungry, it will be enraged, and it will curse its king and its gods,* and it will face upwar ²² or look to the earth. But look! Distress and darkness, the gloom of affliction! And it will be thrust into darkness!

¹⁶ Give glory to Yahweh your God _⌊before_⌋* he brings darkness, and _⌊before_⌋* your feet stumble on the mountains at twilight. And you will hope for light, but he makes it as gloom, he makes it* as thick darkness.

²² Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: "Look! I am against Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, and I will break his strong arm and the broken arm, and I will let the sword fall from his hand.

¹⁰ and* said, "O you who are full of all deceit and of all unscrupulousness, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness! Will you not stop making crooked the straight paths of the Lord! ¹¹ And now behold, the hand of the Lord is against you, and you will be blind, not seeing the sun _⌊for a while_⌋.* And immediately mist and darkness fell over him, and he was going around looking for people* to lead him* by the hand.

⁵ "The spirits of the dead tremble below the waters and their inhabitants. ⁶ Sheol is naked before him, and there is no covering for Abaddon.

¹⁹ Your way was through the sea, and your path* through many waters. Yet your footprints were not discerned.*

²⁴ When there were no depths, I was brought forth, when there were no springs of _⌊abounding_⌋* water.

³⁶ _⌊Therefore_⌋* thus says Yahweh,
"Look, I am going to contend your case, and I will avenge your vengeance, and I will cause her sea to dry up, and I will cause her fountain to dry up.

⁵ Let darkness and deep shadow claim it; let clouds* settle on it; let them* terrify it with the blackness* of day.

²² "He uncovers mysteries out of darkness, and he brings deep shadow to the light.

¹³ Be gracious to me, O Yahweh. See my suffering from those who hate me, you who lift me up from the gates of death,

⁴ Even when I walk in a dark valley, I fear no evil because you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

¹⁰ Those who sat in darkness and gloom, prisoners of misery and iron—

¹⁴ He brought them out of darkness and gloom, and tore off their bonds.

¹⁸ Their soul abhorred all food, and they approached the gates of death.

³ The ropes of death encircled me, and the distresses of Sheol found me. I found trouble and grief.

⁸ The one who made the Pleiades and Orion and who turns deep darkness into the morning and darkens day into night, the one who calls for the waters of the sea and pours them out on the surface of the earth, Yahweh is his name!

¹⁶ the people who sit in darkness have seen a great light, and the ones who sit in the land and shadow of death, a light has dawned on them."*

²⁴ for he himself* looks to the end of the earth; he sees under all the heaven.

¹⁷ You defined* all the boundaries of the earth; Summer and winter—you formed them.

¹¹ The heavens are yours, the earth yours as well, the world with its fullness, because you founded them. ¹² North and south, you created them; Tabor and Hermon shout joyfully over your name.

²⁸ Have you not known, or have you not heard? Yahweh is the God of eternity, the creator of the ends of the earth! He is not faint, and he does not grow weary! There is no searching his understanding.

³⁷ Thus says Yahweh, "If the heavens above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth below can be explored, also I will reject all the offspring of Israel because of all that they have done," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh.

⁹ And they went up on the broad plain of the earth and surrounded the fortified camp of the saints and the beloved city, and fire came down from heaven and consumed them.

³ And God said, "Let there be light!" And there was light. ⁴ And God saw the light, that it was good, and God caused there to be a separation between the light and between the darkness.

¹⁴ And God said, "Let there be lights* in the vaulted dome* of heaven* _⌊to separate day from night_⌋,* and let them be as signs and for appointed times, and for days and years, ¹⁵ and they shall be as lights* in the vaulted dome* of heaven* to give light on the earth." And it was so. ¹⁶ And God made two lights,* the greater light* to rule* the day and the smaller light* to rule* the night, and the stars. ¹⁷ And God placed them in the vaulted dome* of heaven* to give light on the earth ¹⁸ and to rule over the day and over the night, and to _⌊separate light from darkness_⌋.* And God saw that it was good.

¹⁹ _⌊And do this so that you do not lift_⌋* your eyes toward heaven and _⌊observe_⌋* the sun and the moon and the stars, all the host of the heaven, and be led astray and bow down to them and serve them, things that Yahweh your God has allotted to all of the peoples under all of the heaven.

¹² "Have you _⌊ever in your life_⌋* commanded the morning? Have you made the dawn know its place, ¹³ to take hold of the earth's skirts so that* the wicked might be shaken off from it?

¹¹ He made darkness his hiding place; all about him his covering was a darkness of waters, _⌊thick clouds_⌋.*

²⁰ You make darkness, and it is night, when* all the animals of the forest creep about.

²⁸ He sent darkness and made it dark, and they did not rebel against his words.

⁷ I form light and I create darkness; I make peace and I create evil; I am Yahweh; I do all these things.

⁸ All* sources of light in the heavens, I will make them dark over you, and I will put* darkness on your land,'"
_⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh.

¹³ Yes, here is the one who forms the mountains, and the one who creates the wind, and the one who reveals to humans what his thoughts are, and the one who treads on the heights of the earth; Yahweh, the God of hosts, is his name!"

⁴⁵ Now from the sixth hour, darkness came over all the land until the ninth hour.

⁹ The true light, who gives light to every person, was coming into the world.

¹² Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, "I am the light of the world! The one who follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."

¹⁹ And the territory of the Canaanites was from Sidon _⌊in the direction of_⌋* Gerar as far as Gaza, and _⌊in the direction of_⌋* Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha.

¹⁷ So the field of Ephron which was in the Machpelah, which was near Mamre—the field and the cave which was in it, with all the trees that were in the field, which were within all its surrounding boundaries—_⌊passed_⌋*

¹² "Have you _⌊ever in your life_⌋* commanded the morning? Have you made the dawn know its place,

¹⁶ which are growing dark because of ice upon them, it will pile up snow.

⁶ For to the snow he says, 'Fall on the earth'; and _⌊the shower of rain, his heavy shower of rain_⌋*—

⁷ He causes clouds to rise from the edge of the earth; he makes lightnings for the rain; he brings out the wind from his storehouses.

¹⁸ Look, about this time tomorrow, I am going to cause very severe* hail to rain, the like of which has not been in Egypt from the day it was founded until now.

²⁴ And there was hail, and fire was flashing back and forth in the midst of the very severe hail, the like of which was not in all the land of Egypt since it had become a nation.

¹¹ And as they were fleeing from Israel, they were on the slope of Beth-horon, and Yahweh threw huge stones from the heavens on them as far as Azekah; and more died by the hail stones than those whom the _⌊Israelites_⌋* killed by the sword.

¹³ And the godless of heart cherish anger; they do not cry for help when he binds them.

³¹ Indeed, he judges people by them; he gives food _⌊in abundance_⌋.*

³⁰ And Yahweh will cause the majesty of his voice to be heard, and he will cause the descent of his arm to be seen, in furious anger and a flame of devouring fire, with a cloudburst and a rainstorm and stones* of hail.

¹¹ Say to those covering it with whitewash that it will fall; there will be _⌊a torrent of rain_⌋,* and I will give stones of hail; they will fall! * And a _⌊windstorm_⌋* will burst forth! ¹² And look! When the wall falls, will it not be said to you, 'Where is the whitewash with which you covered it?' ¹³ Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: 'And so I will let burst forth a _⌊windstorm_⌋* in my rage, and _⌊there will be a torrent of rain_⌋* in my anger, and hailstones in my rage _⌊for complete destruction_⌋.*

²⁷ And the rain came down and the rivers came and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it collapsed, and its fall was great."

²¹ And large hailstones, weighing about a hundred pounds,* came down from the sky upon people, and the people blasphemed God because of the plague of hail, because the plague of it was very great.

⁸ _⌊And when the sun rose_⌋,* God appointed a scorching east wind, and the sun beat down on Jonah's head and he grew faint. _⌊And he asked that he could die_⌋* and said, "My death is better than my life!"

²⁷ For just as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so the coming of the Son of Man will be.

²⁶ _⌊when he made_⌋* a rule for the rain and a way for the thunder's lightning bolt,

²⁷ Indeed, he draws up the drops of water; he distills the rain into its mist, ²⁸ which the clouds pour down; they shower abundantly on human beings.

³ He lets it loose under all the heavens, and his lightning to the earth's corners. ⁴ After it, his voice roars; it thunders _⌊with his majestic voice_⌋,* and he does not restrain it when his voice is heard. ⁵ "God thunders with his voice in marvelous ways; he does great things, and we cannot comprehend. ⁶ For to the snow he says, 'Fall on the earth'; and _⌊the shower of rain, his heavy shower of rain_⌋*—

³ The voice of Yahweh is over the waters; the God of glory thunders. Yahweh is over many waters. ⁴ The voice of Yahweh is powerful. The voice of Yahweh is majestic. ⁵ The voice of Yahweh breaks the cedars. Yahweh shatters even the cedars of Lebanon. ⁶ And he makes them skip like a calf; Lebanon and Sirion like a young wild ox. ⁷ The voice of Yahweh flashes* flames of fire. ⁸ The voice of Yahweh shakes the wilderness. Yahweh shakes the wilderness of Kadesh. ⁹ The voice of Yahweh causes deer* to give birth and strips the forests bare. And at his temple all in it say, "Glory!" ¹⁰ Yahweh sits enthroned at the flood, and Yahweh sits as king forever.

²⁷ Indeed, he draws up the drops of water; he distills the rain into its mist,

¹⁰ You are the one who sends forth springs into the valleys; they flow between the mountains. ¹¹ They give drink for every beast of the field. The wild donkeys _⌊quench_⌋* their thirst. ¹² Along them the birds of the heavens abide. From among the branches they _⌊sing_⌋.* ¹³ You are the one who _⌊waters_⌋* the mountains from his upper chambers. The earth is full* with the fruit of your labors: ¹⁴ who causes grass to grow for the cattle and herbs for the service of humankind, to bring forth food from the earth,

³⁵ He turns a wilderness into a pool of water and a dry land into springs of water.

⁸ who covers the heavens with clouds, who provides rain for the earth, who causes grass to grow on the mountains. ⁹ He gives to the animal its food, and to the young ravens that cry.

¹ Wilderness and dry land shall be glad,* and desert shall rejoice and blossom like the crocus. ² It shall blossom abundantly, and it shall rejoice indeed with rejoicing and exulting. The glory of Lebanon shall be given to it, the majesty of Carmel and Sharon. _⌊They are the ones who_⌋* shall see the glory of Yahweh, the majesty of our God.

¹⁸ I will open rivers on the barren heights and fountains in the midst of the valleys. I will make the wilderness like a pool of water and the land of dryness like springs of water. ¹⁹ I will _⌊put_⌋* the cedar, acacia, myrtle, and olive oil tree in the wilderness; I will set the cypress, elm, and box tree together in the desert

¹⁹ Look! I am about to do a new thing! Now it sprouts! Do you not perceive* it? Indeed, I will _⌊make_⌋* a way in the wilderness, rivers in the desert. ²⁰ The animals of the field will honor me, jackals and daughters of the ostrich, for I give water in the wilderness, rivers in the desert, to give a drink to my chosen people,

²² Are there any among the idols of the nation who cause rain to pour? Or can the heavens give showers? Is it not you, O Yahweh our God? Therefore, we hope in you, for you do all these things.

⁷ For ground that drinks the rain that comes often upon it, and brings forth vegetation usable to those people _⌊for whose sake_⌋* it is also cultivated, shares a blessing from God. ⁸ But if it* produces thorns and thistles, it is worthless and near to a curse, whose end is for burning.

¹⁴ who causes grass to grow for the cattle and herbs for the service of humankind, to bring forth food from the earth,

²⁸ May God give you of the dew of heaven and of the fatness of the earth, and abundance of grain and new wine.

³⁹ Then Isaac his father answered and said to him,
"Your home shall be from* the fatness of the land, and from the dew of heaven above.

¹³ And of Joseph he said, "Blessed by Yahweh is his land, with* the choice things of heaven, with* dew, and with* the deep lying down beneath,

²⁸ So Israel dwells alone and carefree, the spring of Jacob in a land of grain and wine; his heavens even drip dew.

¹⁷ Is the wheat harvest not today? I will call out to Yahweh so that he still sends thunder and rain, so that you will know and will see that your wickedness is great that you have done in the eyes of Yahweh by asking for a king for yourselves." ¹⁸ So Samuel called out to Yahweh, and Yahweh brought thunder and rain that same day, so all the people feared Yahweh and Samuel greatly.

²¹ O mountains of Gilboa, let there be no dew or rain upon you or on the fields of grain for offerings, for there the small shield of the mighty was defiled, the small shield of Saul was not anointed with oil.

¹ Elijah the Tishbite from Tishbe of Gilead said to Ahab, "_⌊As Yahweh lives_⌋,* the God of Israel before whom I stand, there shall surely not be dew nor rain these years _⌊except by my command_⌋."*

⁹ He is doing great and _⌊unsearchable_⌋* things, marvelous things _⌊without number_⌋*— ¹⁰ the one who is giving rain on the _⌊surface of_⌋* the earth and is sending water on the _⌊surface of_⌋* the fields,

¹⁹ My roots were open to water, and dew spent the night on my branches;

⁸ "Or who shut the sea in with doors at its bursting, when it went out of the womb,

⁹ You care for* the land* and water it; you greatly enrich it. The stream of God is filled with waters. You provide their grain, for so you have established it. ¹⁰ You drench its furrows, penetrating its ridges. With rains you soften it; its growth you bless.

⁸ who covers the heavens with clouds, who provides rain for the earth, who causes grass to grow on the mountains.

²⁰ With his knowledge, depths broke open, and clouds dropped dew.

²⁴ And they do not say in their hearts, 'Let us fear please Yahweh our God, the one who gives the autumn rain* and the spring rain* in its season, _⌊the set times of the harvest_⌋* he keeps for us.'

¹³ _⌊When he utters his voice_⌋* there is a noise of water in the heavens, and he causes the mist to rise from the ends* of the earth. He makes lightning for the rain, and he causes the wind to go out from his storehouses.

⁵ I will be like the dew to Israel; he will blossom like the lily plant, and he will strike his roots like the trees of Lebanon.

²³ Be glad, O children of Zion, be glad and rejoice in Yahweh your God, because he has given for you the autumn rains for your righteousness,* and he has _⌊poured down_⌋* for you rainwater, the autumn and spring rains, as before.

⁷ "And I also withheld the rain from you when there were still three months to the harvest. And I would send rain on one city and send no rain on another city. One tract of land will be rained on, and the tract of land _⌊on which it does not rain_⌋* will dry up.

⁴⁵ in order that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven, because he causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust.

¹⁰ By God's breath, ice is given, and the broad waters are frozen.

¹⁶ He gives snow like wool; he scatters frost like ashes; ¹⁷ he throws his hail like crumbs. Who can stand before his cold?*

⁹ He is the one who made the Bear and Orion, the Pleiades and the constellations of the south.

⁵ He removed the priests whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incense on the high places at the cities of Judah and around Jerusalem and who offered incense to, to the sun, to the moon, to the constellations, and to all the host of heaven.

³¹ "Can you bind the chains of the Pleiades, or can you loosen the cords of Orion?

¹⁶ And God made two lights,* the greater light* to rule* the day and the smaller light* to rule* the night, and the stars.

²² _⌊As long as the earth endures_⌋,* seed and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will not cease.

⁹⁰ Your faithfulness endures _⌊throughout all generations_⌋.* You have established the earth and it stands. ⁹¹ By your ordinances they stand today, for all are your servants.

⁶ And he put them in place forever and ever, by a decree he gave that will not pass away.

³⁵ Thus says Yahweh, who gives the sun for light by day, the regulations of the moon and the stars for light by night, who stirs up the sea and its waves roar—Yahweh of hosts is his name. ³⁶ "If these rules would cease from _⌊before me_⌋,"* _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, "also the offspring of Israel would cease from being a nation _⌊before me_⌋* _⌊forever_⌋."*

²⁵ Thus says Yahweh: 'If my covenant with day and with night, the regulations of heaven and earth, I had not established,

¹⁸ So Samuel called out to Yahweh, and Yahweh brought thunder and rain that same day, so all the people feared Yahweh and Samuel greatly.

¹¹ or it is so dark you cannot see, and a flood of water covers you.

¹ Ask rain from Yahweh in the season of the spring rain—
Yahweh, who makes storm clouds, and he gives showers of rain to them, to everyone vegetation in the field.

¹⁸ And he prayed again, and the sky gave rain and the earth produced its fruit.

²³ And Moses stretched out his staff to the heavens, and Yahweh gave thunder* and hail, and fire went to the earth, and Yahweh caused hail to rain on the land of Egypt. ²⁴ And there was hail, and fire was flashing back and forth in the midst of the very severe hail, the like of which was not in all the land of Egypt since it had become a nation. ²⁵ And the hail struck in all the land of Egypt all that was in the field, from human to animal, and the hail struck all the vegetation of the field and smashed every tree of the field.

²⁹ And Moses said to him, "At my leaving the city, I will spread out my hands to Yahweh. The thunder will stop, and the hail will be no more, so that you will know that the earth belongs to Yahweh.

² So* fire went out _⌊from before_⌋* Yahweh, and it consumed them so that* they died _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh.

¹ And it happened, the people were like those who _⌊complain of hardship_⌋* _⌊in the hearing_⌋* of Yahweh, and Yahweh _⌊became angry_⌋,* and the fire of Yahweh burned among them, and it consumed the edge of the camp.

³⁵ And fire went out from Yahweh, and it consumed the two hundred and fifty men presenting the incense.

¹² Saul said, "Listen please, son of Ahitub." He said, "Here I am, my lord."

¹⁰ Then Elijah answered and said to the commander of the fifty, "If I am a man of God, let fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty!" Then fire came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty.

¹⁴ Behold, fire from heaven came down and consumed the first two commanders of fifty and their fifties, so then let my life be precious in your eyes."

³² He covers his hands with lightning, and he commands it the place at which to strike.

⁸ Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying,
"Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?"
And I said,
"I am here! Send me!"

¹ "I let myself be sought by those who did not ask; I let myself be found by those who did not seek me. I said, 'Here I am; here I am!' to a nation that did not call on my name;

⁵ And if anyone wants to harm them, fire comes out of their mouth and consumes their enemies. And if anyone wants to harm them, in this way he must be killed. ⁶ These have the authority to shut the sky, so that _⌊it does not rain_⌋* during the days of their prophecy. And they have authority over the waters, to turn them to blood, and to strike the earth with every plague as often as they wish.

³ And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom and with skill* and with knowledge and with every kind of craftsmanship,

¹ And Bezalel and Oholiab and everyone who is skilled of heart in whom Yahweh has put wisdom and skill to know and to do all the work for the service of the sanctuary—they will do it, according to all that Yahweh has commanded." ² And Moses called Bezalel and Oholiab and everyone skilled of heart, in whose heart Yahweh had put skill, all whose heart lifted him to come near to the work in order to do it.

⁴ He is wise in* heart and mighty in* strength; who has resisted him and succeeded?*

⁸ "Truly, it is a spirit in a human being, and the breath of Shaddai teaches them.

⁶ Behold, you delight in truth in the inward parts, and in the hidden parts you make me to know wisdom.

⁶ For Yahweh will give wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.

²⁶ For to the person who is good in his eyes, he gives wisdom, knowledge, and joy; but to the sinner he gives the task of gathering and heaping up only to give it to him who is pleasing to him. This also is vanity and chasing wind!

²⁶ And his God instructs him about the prescription;* he teaches him.

⁵ Now if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask for it from God, who gives to all without reservation and not reproaching, and it will be given to him.

¹⁷ Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of change.

¹ And God remembered Noah and all the wild animals, and all the domesticated animals that were with him in the ark. And God caused a wind to blow* over the earth, and the waters subsided.

⁵ And he brought him outside and said, "Look toward the heavens and count the stars if you are able to count them." And he said to him, "So shall your offspring be."

⁴ He counts the number of the stars; he gives names to all of them.

¹⁰ The roar of the lion and the voice of a lion in its prime, and the teeth of the young lions are broken. ¹¹ The lion is perishing without* prey, and the lion's whelps are scattered.

¹⁰ The young lions are in want and suffer hunger, but those who seek Yahweh will not lack for any good thing.

²¹ The young lions are roaring for the prey and seeking their food from God.

¹⁵ The eyes of all look hopefully to you, and you give them their food in due time, ¹⁶ opening your hand, and satisfying the desire of every living creature.

⁹ Judah is a lion's cub. From the prey, my son, you have gone up. He bowed down; he crouched like a lion and as a lioness. Who shall rouse him?

²⁴ Look! the people will rise like the lion; he raises himself and will not lie down until he eats the prey and drinks the blood of the slain."

⁹ He crouches, he lies down like a lion, and like a lioness, who will rouse him? They who bless you will be blessed, and they who curse you will be cursed."

⁸ Then* the animal goes into its den, and it remains in its den.

²⁷ They all wait for you to give them their food _⌊at the proper time_⌋.* ²⁸ You give to them; they gather it. You open your hand, they are filled with what is good.

⁹ He gives to the animal its food, and to the young ravens that cry.

²⁶ Consider the birds of the sky, that they do not sow or reap or gather produce into barns, and your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth more than they are?

²⁴ Consider the ravens, that they neither sow nor reap; to them there is neither storeroom nor barn, and God feeds them. How much more are you worth than the birds?
