¹ "About this also my heart trembles, and it leaps from its place. ² Listen carefully to his voice's thunder and the rumbling that goes out from his mouth. ³ He lets it loose under all the heavens, and his lightning to the earth's corners. ⁴ After it, his voice roars; it thunders _⌊with his majestic voice_⌋,* and he does not restrain it when his voice is heard. ⁵ "God thunders with his voice in marvelous ways; he does great things, and we cannot comprehend. ⁶ For to the snow he says, 'Fall on the earth'; and _⌊the shower of rain, his heavy shower of rain_⌋*— ⁷ _⌊he stops all human beings from working_⌋* _⌊so that everyone whom he has made may know it_⌋.* ⁸ Then* the animal goes into its den, and it remains in its den. ⁹ "The storm wind comes from its chamber and cold from the north wind. ¹⁰ By God's breath, ice is given, and the broad waters are frozen. ¹¹ Also, he loads down thick clouds with moisture; his lightning scatters the clouds. ¹² And _⌊they_⌋* turn around by his guidance to accomplish all that he has commanded them on the face of _⌊the habitable world_⌋.* ¹³ Whether as _⌊correction_⌋* or for his land, or as loyal love, he lets it happen. ¹⁴ "Hear this, Job; stand still and consider carefully God's wondrous works. ¹⁵ Do you know _⌊how God commands them_⌋* and how he causes his cloud's lightning to shine? ¹⁶ Do you know about the hovering of the clouds, _⌊the marvelous works of the one with perfect knowledge_⌋?* ¹⁷ You whose garments are hot, when the earth is being still because of the south wind, ¹⁸ with him can you spread out the skies, hard as a molten mirror? ¹⁹ "Teach us what we should say to him; we cannot draw up our case because of the presence of darkness. ²⁰ Should he be told that I want to speak? Or did a man say that he would be communicated with? ²¹ So then, they do not look at the light when it is bright in the skies, when* the wind has passed and has cleansed them. ²² From the north comes gold— awesome majesty is around God. ²³ As for Shaddai, we cannot attain him; he is exalted in power, and he does not oppress justice and abundant righteousness. ²⁴ Therefore people revered him; he does not regard any* _⌊who think that they are wise_⌋."*

¹⁶ _⌊And_⌋* on the third day, when it was morning, there was thunder and lightning, and a heavy cloud over the mountain and a very loud ram's horn sound, and all the people who were in the camp trembled.

¹⁴ dread met me, and trembling, and it made many of my bones shake.

⁶ And when I think of it, I am horrified,* and shuddering seizes my flesh.

¹ Then* Yahweh answered Job from the storm, and he said,

⁷ a God feared greatly in the council of the holy ones, and awesome above all surrounding him?

¹²⁰ My flesh trembles for fear of you, and I am afraid of your judgments.

²² Do you not revere me?" _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, "Do you not tremble _⌊before me_⌋?* For I have placed the sand as a boundary for the sea, _⌊as an everlasting limit_⌋,* and it cannot pass over it, and they rise and fall loudly, but they cannot prevail, and its waves roar, but they cannot pass over it.

⁷ And I saw, I, Daniel _⌊alone_⌋,* the vision; and the people who were with me _⌊did not see_⌋* the vision; nevertheless, a great trembling fell upon them and they fled in order to hide themselves. ⁸ And I myself, Daniel, alone saw this great vision, and as a result _⌊no strength was left in me_⌋* and _⌊my complexion grew deathly pale_⌋,* and I did not retain any strength.

¹⁶ I hear and my stomach shakes; my lips quiver at the sound; infection enters my bones; that which is beneath me trembles; I wait quietly for the day of trouble to come upon the people attacking us.

² And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came up and* rolled away the stone and sat down* on it. ³ Now his appearance was like lightning and his clothing white as snow. ⁴ And the guards trembled from the fear of him and became like dead men.

²⁶ And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken. And immediately all the doors were opened and all the bonds* were unfastened.

²⁹ And demanding lights, he rushed in and, _⌊beginning to tremble_⌋,* fell down at the feet of Paul and Silas.

²⁹ "Moreover, _⌊can anyone understand_⌋* the spreading of clouds, the thundering of his dwelling place?

³³ His thundering tells about him; the livestock also tell _⌊concerning what rises_⌋.*

³ The voice of Yahweh is over the waters; the God of glory thunders. Yahweh is over many waters. ⁴ The voice of Yahweh is powerful. The voice of Yahweh is majestic. ⁵ The voice of Yahweh breaks the cedars. Yahweh shatters even the cedars of Lebanon. ⁶ And he makes them skip like a calf; Lebanon and Sirion like a young wild ox. ⁷ The voice of Yahweh flashes* flames of fire. ⁸ The voice of Yahweh shakes the wilderness. Yahweh shakes the wilderness of Kadesh. ⁹ The voice of Yahweh causes deer* to give birth and strips the forests bare. And at his temple all in it say, "Glory!"

⁷ At your rebuke they fled; at the sound of your thunder they ran off.

¹³ to take hold of the earth's skirts so that* the wicked might be shaken off from it?

¹³ O God, your way is distinctive.* Who is a great god like our God?

⁴ His lightnings light the world; the earth sees and trembles.

¹² and he will raise a signal for the nations. And he will gather the outcasts of Israel, and he will gather the scattered ones of Judah together from the four _⌊corners_⌋* of the earth.

²⁷ For just as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so the coming of the Son of Man will be.

¹⁹ And the temple of God in heaven was opened, and the ark of his covenant appeared in his temple, and there were lightnings and sounds and thunders and an earthquake and large hail.*

⁷ And in the greatness of your majesty you overthrew those standing up to you; you released your fierce anger, and it consumed them like stubble. ⁸ And by the breath of your nostrils waters were piled up; waves stood like a heap; deep waters in the middle of the sea congealed.

²⁶ "There is no one like God, O, Jeshurun, who rides through the heavens to your help, and with his majesty through the skies.

²⁷ Indeed, he draws up the drops of water; he distills the rain into its mist, ²⁸ which the clouds pour down; they shower abundantly on human beings. ²⁹ "Moreover, _⌊can anyone understand_⌋* the spreading of clouds, the thundering of his dwelling place? ³⁰ Look, he scatters his lightning around him, and he covers the roots of the sea. ³¹ Indeed, he judges people by them; he gives food _⌊in abundance_⌋.* ³² He covers his hands with lightning, and he commands it the place at which to strike. ³³ His thundering tells about him; the livestock also tell _⌊concerning what rises_⌋.*

³³ to the one who rides in the highest heavens of old. See, he gives forth his voice, a mighty voice.

¹⁴ Yahweh thundered from heaven, and the Most High _⌊uttered his voice_⌋.* ¹⁵ He sent arrows and he scattered them, lightning, and he directed them.

⁹ He is doing great and _⌊unsearchable_⌋* things, marvelous things _⌊without number_⌋*—

¹⁰ He is the one who does great things _⌊beyond understanding_⌋* and marvelous things _⌊beyond number_⌋.*

⁷ "Can you find out the essence of God, or can you find out _⌊the ultimate limits_⌋* of Shaddai?

¹⁴ Look, these are the outer fringes of his ways, and _⌊how faint is the word_⌋* that we hear of him! But* who can understand the thunder of his power?"

²⁶ "Look, God is exalted, and we do not know him; the number of his years is unsearchable.

¹¹ He has made everything suitable in its time. He also has put _⌊the past_⌋* in their hearts, yet no one can grasp what God does from the beginning to the end.

²¹ Have you not known? Have you not heard? Has it not been told to you from the _⌊beginning_⌋?* Have you not understood from the foundation of the earth? ²² He is the one who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; the one who stretches out the heavens like a veil and spreads them out like a tent to live in,

²⁸ Have you not known, or have you not heard? Yahweh is the God of eternity, the creator of the ends of the earth! He is not faint, and he does not grow weary! There is no searching his understanding.

³³ Oh, the depth of the riches and the wisdom and the knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how incomprehensible are his ways!

³ And they were singing the song of Moses, the slave of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying:
"Great and marvelous are your works, Lord God All-Powerful; righteous and true are your ways, King of the ages!*

¹⁰ And it happened that after seven days the waters of the flood came over the earth. ¹¹ In the six hundredth year of the life of Noah, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month—on that day all the springs of the great deep were split open, and the windows of heaven were opened. ¹² And the rain came upon the earth forty days and forty nights.

⁹ Then all the men of Judah and Benjamin assembled in Jerusalem within the three days. It was the ninth month on the twentieth day of the month. All the people sat in the public square of the house of God trembling because of this matter and from the rains.

¹³ But the people are many, and it is the time of rain; we are unable to stand outside. The task is not for one day or two, for we greatly rebelled in this matter.

²⁷ Indeed, he draws up the drops of water; he distills the rain into its mist,

²² Have you entered into the storehouses of the snow, or* have you seen the storehouses of the hail,

¹⁶ He gives snow like wool; he scatters frost like ashes; ¹⁷ he throws his hail like crumbs. Who can stand before his cold?* ¹⁸ He sends out his word and melts them; he blows his breath, the water flows.

⁸ fire and hail, snow and cloud,* stormy wind doing his bidding,*

³ A man who is poor and oppresses the impoverished is a beating rain _⌊that leaves_⌋* no food.

¹¹ Say to those covering it with whitewash that it will fall; there will be _⌊a torrent of rain_⌋,* and I will give stones of hail; they will fall! * And a _⌊windstorm_⌋* will burst forth!

¹³ Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: 'And so I will let burst forth a _⌊windstorm_⌋* in my rage, and _⌊there will be a torrent of rain_⌋* in my anger, and hailstones in my rage _⌊for complete destruction_⌋.*

⁶ who builds his upper chambers in the heavens and lays the foundation of his vault on the earth, who calls for the waters of the sea and pours them on the surface of the earth—Yahweh is his name.

²⁵ And the rain came down and the rivers came and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it did not collapse, because its foundation was laid on the rock. ²⁶ And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. ²⁷ And the rain came down and the rivers came and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it collapsed, and its fall was great."

¹² He is frustrating the devices of the crafty, and their hands do not achieve success.

⁷ He is the one who commands the sun, and it does not rise, _⌊and he seals up the stars_⌋.*

¹⁴ If he tears down, then* it will not be rebuilt; if he shuts a man in, then* he cannot be freed.

²⁴ Remember that you should extol his work, of which people have sung.

⁸ Come, see the works of Yahweh, who has placed desolations on the earth.

⁹ And then* all men* will fear, and will declare the working of God, and will understand his doing.

⁴ For you, O Yahweh, have made me glad by your work; by the deeds of your hands I sing for joy.

²⁷ that they may know that this is your hand, that you, O Yahweh, you have done it.

² The works of Yahweh are great, studied* by all who delight in them.

¹⁷ Then I saw all the work of God—man is not able to discover the work that is done under the sun. Although man may toil in seeking, he cannot find it. Even if a wise man claims that he knows it, he cannot find it.

¹² And there will be lyre and harp, tambourine and flute, and wine at their feasts, but they do not look at the deeds* of Yahweh, and they do not see the work of his hands.

¹¹ Yahweh, though your hand reaches high, they do not see it.
Let them see, and let them be ashamed of the zeal of people. Indeed, let the fire of your enemies consume them.

⁴⁰ when they are crouched in the dens, when they lie in the thicket in an ambush?

²² When the sun rises, they gather together and lie down in their dens.

⁹ He is the one who made the Bear and Orion, the Pleiades and the constellations of the south.

³ the one who sets beams in the waters for his upper chambers, who makes clouds his chariot, who rides* on the wings of the wind,

¹ The oracle of the wilderness of the sea:
As storm winds passing over in the Negev,
_⌊it comes_⌋* from the desert, from a frightful land.

¹⁴ Then Yahweh will appear over them, and his arrow will go forth like lightning; and my Lord Yahweh will blow the trumpet, and he shall go out in the storm winds of the south.

²⁹ From whose womb did the ice come forth, and who fathered the frost of heaven? ³⁰ Like stone the waters become hard, and the faces of the deep freeze.

⁴⁷ He destroyed their vines with hail and their sycamore trees with sleet.*

³² He covers his hands with lightning, and he commands it the place at which to strike.

⁴ For Yahweh said this to me:
"I will be quiet, and I will look from my dwelling place like _⌊clear heat because of light_⌋,* like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest."

⁵ While* he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice from the cloud said, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased. Listen to him!"

⁹ You care for* the land* and water it; you greatly enrich it. The stream of God is filled with waters. You provide their grain, for so you have established it. ¹⁰ You drench its furrows, penetrating its ridges. With rains you soften it; its growth you bless.

²⁴ How many are your works, O Yahweh; all of them you have done in wisdom. The earth is full of your creatures.

²² Are there any among the idols of the nation who cause rain to pour? Or can the heavens give showers? Is it not you, O Yahweh our God? Therefore, we hope in you, for you do all these things.

²³ Be glad, O children of Zion, be glad and rejoice in Yahweh your God, because he has given for you the autumn rains for your righteousness,* and he has _⌊poured down_⌋* for you rainwater, the autumn and spring rains, as before.

⁷ "And I also withheld the rain from you when there were still three months to the harvest. And I would send rain on one city and send no rain on another city. One tract of land will be rained on, and the tract of land _⌊on which it does not rain_⌋* will dry up.

¹⁷ Elijah was a human being* with the same nature as us, and _⌊he prayed fervently_⌋* for it not to rain, and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. ¹⁸ And he prayed again, and the sky gave rain and the earth produced its fruit.

⁶ These have the authority to shut the sky, so that _⌊it does not rain_⌋* during the days of their prophecy. And they have authority over the waters, to turn them to blood, and to strike the earth with every plague as often as they wish.

¹⁸ Look, about this time tomorrow, I am going to cause very severe* hail to rain, the like of which has not been in Egypt from the day it was founded until now. ¹⁹ And now send word; bring into safety your livestock and all that belongs to you in the field. The hail will come down on every human and animal that is found in the field and not gathered into the house, and they will die." '" ²⁰ Anyone from the servants of Pharaoh who feared the word of Yahweh caused his servants and livestock to flee to the houses. ²¹ But whoever did not _⌊give regard to_⌋* the word of Yahweh abandoned his servants and his livestock in the field. ²² And Yahweh said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand to the heavens, and let there be hail in all the land of Egypt, on human and on animal and on all the vegetation of the field in the land of Egypt." ²³ And Moses stretched out his staff to the heavens, and Yahweh gave thunder* and hail, and fire went to the earth, and Yahweh caused hail to rain on the land of Egypt. ²⁴ And there was hail, and fire was flashing back and forth in the midst of the very severe hail, the like of which was not in all the land of Egypt since it had become a nation. ²⁵ And the hail struck in all the land of Egypt all that was in the field, from human to animal, and the hail struck all the vegetation of the field and smashed every tree of the field.

¹⁸ So Samuel called out to Yahweh, and Yahweh brought thunder and rain that same day, so all the people feared Yahweh and Samuel greatly. ¹⁹ Then all the people said to Samuel, "Pray for your servants to Yahweh your God so that we will not die, because we have added to all our sins by requesting a king for ourselves."

¹⁰ Rizpah the daughter of Aiah took the sackcloth, and she spread it for herself on the rock at the beginning of the harvest until water gushed forth on them from heaven, but she did not allow the birds of heaven to rest on them by day nor the animals of the field by night.

¹⁴ And they buried the bones of Saul and Jonathan his son in the land of Benjamin at Zela, in the tomb of Kish his father. They did all that the king had commanded, and afterward God was entreated for the land.

⁴⁵ _⌊In no time_⌋* the heavens grew black with clouds and wind, and there was heavy rain. Ahab rode and he went to Jezreel,

³¹ Indeed, he judges people by them; he gives food _⌊in abundance_⌋.*

⁶ For to the snow he says, 'Fall on the earth'; and _⌊the shower of rain, his heavy shower of rain_⌋*—

²⁶ to bring rain on a land _⌊where no one lives_⌋,* a desert _⌊where no humans live_⌋,* ²⁷ to satisfy desert and wasteland, and to cause the ground to put forth the rising of grass?

³⁷ Who can number the clouds with wisdom? Or* who can tilt heaven's jars, ³⁸ at the flowing of the dust into a cast and the clods cling together?

¹³ And Moses said to the people, "You must not be afraid. Stand still and see the salvation of Yahweh, which he will accomplish for you today, because the Egyptians whom you see today you will see never again.

⁶ Sheol is naked before him, and there is no covering for Abaddon. ⁷ He stretches out the north over emptiness; he hangs the earth _⌊over nothing_⌋.* ⁸ He ties up the water in its clouds, and the cloud is not torn open beneath it.* ⁹ He covers the face of the full moon;* he spreads his cloud over it. ¹⁰ _⌊He has described a circle_⌋* on the face of the water _⌊between light and darkness_⌋.* ¹¹ "The pillars of heaven tremble, and they are astounded at his rebuke. ¹² By his power he stilled the sea, and by his understanding he struck down Rahab. ¹³ By his breath _⌊the heavens were made clear_⌋;* his hand pierced the fleeing snake. ¹⁴ Look, these are the outer fringes of his ways, and _⌊how faint is the word_⌋* that we hear of him! But* who can understand the thunder of his power?"

¹⁰ Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations; I will be exalted in the earth.

⁵ On the splendor of the glory of your majesty, and on your wonderful deeds, I will meditate. ⁶ And they will speak of the power of your awesome deeds,* and I will tell of your greatness.*

¹⁰ All your works will praise you, O Yahweh, and your faithful ones will bless* you. ¹¹ They will speak of the glory of your kingdom, and talk of your power, ¹² to make known to the children of humankind his mighty deeds, and the glory of the majesty of his kingdom.

²⁰ But Yahweh is in his holy temple. Let all the earth be silent before him."

²⁴ for he himself* looks to the end of the earth; he sees under all the heaven. ²⁵ _⌊When he gave_⌋* weight to the wind and he apportioned the waters by measure, ²⁶ _⌊when he made_⌋* a rule for the rain and a way for the thunder's lightning bolt, ²⁷ then he saw it and talked about it; he established it, and moreover, he explored it.

⁴ "Where were you at my laying the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you possess understanding. ⁵ Who determined its measurement? Yes, you do know. Or who stretched the measuring line upon it? ⁶ On what were its bases sunk? Or who laid its cornerstone, ⁷ when the morning stars were singing together and all the sons of God* shouted for joy? ⁸ "Or who shut the sea in with doors at its bursting, when it went out of the womb, ⁹ at my making the clouds its garment and thick darkness its swaddling band, ¹⁰ and I prescribed my rule for it, and I set bars and doors, ¹¹ and I said, 'You shall come up to here, but* you shall not go further, and here it will set a boundary _⌊for your proud surging waves_⌋'?* ¹² "Have you _⌊ever in your life_⌋* commanded the morning? Have you made the dawn know its place, ¹³ to take hold of the earth's skirts so that* the wicked might be shaken off from it? ¹⁴ It is changed like clay under a seal, and they appear like a garment. ¹⁵ And their light is withheld from the wicked, and their uplifted arm is broken. ¹⁶ "Have you entered into the sea's sources? Or have you walked around in the recesses of the deep? ¹⁷ Have the gates of death been revealed to you? Or have you seen the gates of deep shadow? ¹⁸ Have you considered closely the earth's vast expanse? Declare it, if you know all of it. ¹⁹ "Where then* is the way where the light dwells? And where then* is its place, ²⁰ that you may take it to its territory, and that you might discern the paths to its home? ²¹ You know, for you were born then, and the number of your days is great. ²² Have you entered into the storehouses of the snow, or* have you seen the storehouses of the hail, ²³ which I have reserved for the time of trouble, for the day of battle and war? ²⁴ Where then* is the way where the light is distributed, where he scatters the east wind upon the earth? ²⁵ "Who has cut open a channel for the torrents and a way for the _⌊thunder bolts_⌋,* ²⁶ to bring rain on a land _⌊where no one lives_⌋,* a desert _⌊where no humans live_⌋,* ²⁷ to satisfy desert and wasteland, and to cause the ground to put forth the rising of grass? ²⁸ Is there a father for the rain, or who fathered the drops of dew? ²⁹ From whose womb did the ice come forth, and who fathered the frost of heaven? ³⁰ Like stone the waters become hard, and the faces of the deep freeze. ³¹ "Can you bind the chains of the Pleiades, or can you loosen the cords of Orion? ³² Can you lead forth the southern constellations at their appointed time, or* can you lead the Bear with its children? ³³ Do you know heaven's statutes, or can you establish their rule on the earth? ³⁴ Can you lift up your voice to the clouds so that* a flood of water may cover you? ³⁵ Can you send forth lightnings, that they may go? And will they say to you, 'Here we are'? ³⁶ Who has put wisdom in the ibis,* or who has given understanding to the rooster?* ³⁷ Who can number the clouds with wisdom? Or* who can tilt heaven's jars, ³⁸ at the flowing of the dust into a cast and the clods cling together? ³⁹ "Can you hunt prey for the lion? And can you satisfy the hunger of strong lions ⁴⁰ when they are crouched in the dens, when they lie in the thicket in an ambush? ⁴¹ Who prepares for the crow its prey, when its young ones cry to God for help, and they wander around _⌊for lack of food_⌋?*

⁹⁰ Your faithfulness endures _⌊throughout all generations_⌋.* You have established the earth and it stands. ⁹¹ By your ordinances they stand today, for all are your servants.

²⁶ Lift your eyes up on high, and see! Who created these? The one who brings out their host by number. He calls all them by name. Because he is great of power and mighty of power, no man is missing.

⁸ He ties up the water in its clouds, and the cloud is not torn open beneath it.*

⁴ for truly my words* are not falsehood; one who has perfect knowledge is with you.*

² you who cover yourself with light as with a garment, who stretch out the heavens like a tent curtain, ³ the one who sets beams in the waters for his upper chambers, who makes clouds his chariot, who rides* on the wings of the wind,

⁵ Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is unlimited.

¹⁹ Yahweh in wisdom founded the earth; he established the heavens in understanding. ²⁰ With his knowledge, depths broke open, and clouds dropped dew.

²² He is the one who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; the one who stretches out the heavens like a veil and spreads them out like a tent to live in,

¹² He is the maker of the earth by his power, who created the world by his wisdom, and by his understanding he stretched out heaven. ¹³ _⌊When he utters his voice_⌋* there is a noise of water in the heavens, and he causes the mist to rise from the ends* of the earth. He makes lightning for the rain, and he causes the wind to go out from his storehouses.

¹⁷ In time they dry up, they disappear; when it is hot, they vanish from their place.

³¹ "Can you bind the chains of the Pleiades, or can you loosen the cords of Orion?

¹⁸ He sends out his word and melts them; he blows his breath, the water flows.

⁵⁵ And when you see the south wind blowing, you say, 'There will be burning heat,' and it happens.

⁶ And God said, "Let there be a vaulted dome* in the midst of the waters, and _⌊let it cause a separation between the waters_⌋."* ⁷ So* God made the vaulted dome,* and he caused a separation between the waters which were under the vaulted dome* and between the waters which were over the vaulted dome.* And it was so. ⁸ And God called the vaulted dome* "heaven."* And there was evening, and there was morning, a second day.

⁸ And he made the basin of bronze and its stand of bronze from the mirrors of the serving women who served at the entrance of the tent of assembly.

⁸ He is the one who alone stretches out the heavens and who tramples on the waves of the sea. ⁹ He is the one who made the Bear and Orion, the Pleiades and the constellations of the south.

² you who cover yourself with light as with a garment, who stretch out the heavens like a tent curtain,

⁴ Praise him, _⌊highest heavens_⌋,* and waters above the heavens. ⁵ Let them praise the name of Yahweh, because he commanded and they were created. ⁶ And he put them in place forever and ever, by a decree he gave that will not pass away.

¹ Praise Yah.* Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty firmament.

²⁷ _⌊when he established_⌋* the heavens, there I was, _⌊when he drew_⌋* a circle upon the face of the deep,

¹² Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand and marked off the heavens with a span, comprehended the dust of the earth in a third of a measure and weighed out the mountains in the scales,* and the hills in a balance?

²⁴ Thus says Yahweh, your redeemer, and he who formed you in* the womb: "I am Yahweh, who made everything, who stretched out the heavens alone, who spread out the earth—who was with me?—

³ _⌊I also have insight_⌋* like you;* I am not more inferior than you.* And _⌊who does not know things like these_⌋?*

³ But I would speak to Shaddai, and I desire to argue with God.

⁶ Please hear my argument, and listen attentively to the pleadings of my lips.

²⁰ Indeed,* from where does wisdom come? And _⌊where in the world_⌋* is the place of understanding? ²¹ It is hidden from the eyes of all living, and it is concealed from the birds of the heaven.

² "Who is this darkening counsel by words without knowledge?

³ 'Who is this darkening counsel without knowledge?' Therefore I uttered, but* I did not understand; _⌊things too wonderful for me_⌋,* but I did not know.

¹⁶ When I thought about how to understand this, it was troubling in my eyes ¹⁷ until I went into the sanctuary of God. Then I understood their fate.

²² then I was brutish and ignorant. With you I was like the beasts.

⁶ Such knowledge is too wonderful for me. It is set high; I cannot prevail against it.

² Certainly I am more stupid than a man, and the understanding of humankind is not for me. ³ And I have not learned wisdom, nor will I know knowledge of the Holy One.* ⁴ Who has ascended to heaven and come down? Who has gathered the wind in the hollow of his hand? Who has wrapped water in a* garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is his name and what is the name of his child? For surely you know.

¹² For now we see through a mirror _⌊indirectly_⌋*, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I will know completely, just as I have also been completely known.

² Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been revealed. We know that whenever he is revealed we will be like him, because we will see him just as he is.

³ for then it would be heavier than the sand of the seas; therefore my words have been rash,

⁷ "Can you find out the essence of God, or can you find out _⌊the ultimate limits_⌋* of Shaddai? ⁸ _⌊It is higher than the heaven_⌋;* what can you do? It is deeper than Sheol; what can you know?

⁴ For there is not a word yet on my tongue, but behold, O Yahweh, you know it completely.

³⁶ But I tell you that every worthless word that they speak, people will give an account for it on the day of judgment! ³⁷ For by your words you will be vindicated, and by your words you will be condemned."

⁹ He covers the face of the full moon;* he spreads his cloud over it.

²⁵ "Who has cut open a channel for the torrents and a way for the _⌊thunder bolts_⌋,*

¹¹ To you, O Yahweh, is the greatness and the power and the splendor and the glory and the strength, for everything in the heavens and in the earth. Yours, O Yahweh, is the kingdom and exaltation over all as head!

¹⁰ Adorn* yourself with pride and dignity, and clothe yourself with splendor.

⁴ The voice of Yahweh is powerful. The voice of Yahweh is majestic.

⁵ Come and _⌊consider_⌋* the works of God; he is awesome in his dealings* with the children of humankind.

⁷ O God, when you went out before your people, when you marched through the desert, Selah ⁸ the earth shook; the heavens also dripped rain at the presence of God who was at Sinai, at the presence of God, the God of Israel.

¹² He cuts off the spirit of leaders. He is to be feared by the kings of the earth.

¹ Yahweh is king; he clothes himself with majesty. Yahweh clothes himself; he girds himself with might. Yes, the world is established so that it will not be moved.

¹ Bless Yahweh, O my soul. O Yahweh my God, you are very great. You clothe yourself with splendor and majesty,

⁵ On the splendor of the glory of your majesty, and on your wonderful deeds, I will meditate.

²³ The wind of the north produces rain, and a backbiting tongue, angry faces.

¹⁰ Enter into the rock and hide yourself in the dust from the presence of the terror of Yahweh and from the glory of his majesty.

¹⁹ and they will enter into the caves of the rocks and into the holes of the ground from the presence of the terror of Yahweh and from the glory of his majesty _⌊when he rises_⌋* to terrify the earth.

⁴ And he will stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of Yahweh, in the majesty of the name of Yahweh his God. And they will live, for now he will be great unto the ends of the earth.

³ Yahweh is slow to anger but great in power; he will certainly not allow the guilty to go unpunished. _⌊He marches_⌋* in storm wind and in gale; storm clouds are the dust of his feet.

³ God came from Teman; the Holy One from Mount Paran. Selah His splendor covers the heavens, and his praise fills the earth. ⁴ And his brightness was like the light; flashing rays came from his hand for him; And there is the covering of his strength. ⁵ Before him went Disease,* and Pestilence* went out at his feet. ⁶ He stood and measured the earth; he looked and made the nations tremble. Then the mountains of old were shattered; the hills of old collapsed. The ways of old belong to him. ⁷ Under affliction I saw the tents of Cushan; the tent curtains of the land of Midian trembled. ⁸ Was the anger of Yahweh against the rivers? Was your wrath against the rivers, or your fury against the sea, when you mounted upon your horses, upon your victory chariot? ⁹ You laid bare the nakedness of your bow, swearing oaths with the arrows of your word. You split the earth with rivers. ¹⁰ When the mountains saw you they writhed; a torrent of waters swept by; the deep gave its voice; it raised its hands on high. ¹¹ Sun and moon stood still in their place; at the light of your arrows they moved about; at the gleam of the flashing of your spear. ¹² In fury you marched through the earth; in anger you trampled the nations. ¹³ You went forth for the salvation of your people, for the salvation of your anointed. You crushed the head of the house of wickedness, laying bare from the foundation to the top.* ¹⁴ You pierced the head of his warriors with his own arrows; they came like a whirlwind to scatter me, their exultation like one who devours the afflicted in ambush. ¹⁵ You trampled upon the sea with your horses, the churning of many waters. ¹⁶ I hear and my stomach shakes; my lips quiver at the sound; infection enters my bones; that which is beneath me trembles; I wait quietly for the day of trouble to come upon the people attacking us. ¹⁷ Though the fig tree does not blossom, nor there be fruit on the vines; the yield of the olive tree fails, and the cultivated fields do not yield food; the flock is cut off from the animal pen, and there is no cattle in the stalls, ¹⁸ Yet I will rejoice in Yahweh; I will exult in the God of my salvation. ¹⁹ Yahweh, my Lord, is my strength; he makes my feet like the deer; he causes me to walk on my high places. To the choirmaster with stringed instruments.

³ who is the radiance of his glory and the representation of his essence, sustaining all things by the word of power.* When he* had made purification for sins through him, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

²⁹ For indeed our God is a consuming fire.

²⁵ to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, power, and authority before all time and now and for all eternity. Amen.

³ Does God pervert justice, _⌊or_⌋* Shaddai pervert righteousness?

⁴ He is wise in* heart and mighty in* strength; who has resisted him and succeeded?*

¹⁹ If _⌊it is a matter of_⌋* strength, look, he is mighty. But* if _⌊it is a matter of_⌋* justice, who can summon me?*

¹³ "With him are wisdom and powerful deeds, and to him belong counsel and understanding.

⁷ "Surely now he has worn me out; you* have devastated all my company. ⁸ Thus* you shriveled me up;* it became a witness. And my leanness has risen up against me; it testifies to my face. ⁹ His wrath has torn, and he has been hostile toward me; he gnashed at me with his teeth. My foe sharpens his eyes against me. ¹⁰ They gaped at me with their mouth; they struck my cheeks with disgrace; they have massed themselves together against me. ¹¹ God delivers me to an evil one, and he casts me into the hands of the wicked. ¹² "I was at ease, then* he broke me in two, and he seized me by my neck; then* he shattered me and set me up as a target for him. ¹³ His archers surround me; he slashes open my kidneys, and he does not have compassion; he pours out my gall on the ground. ¹⁴ He breached me _⌊breach upon breach_⌋;* he rushes at me like a warrior. ¹⁵ "I have sewed sackcloth on my skin, and I have inserted _⌊my pride_⌋* in the dust. ¹⁶ My face is red because of weeping, and deep shadows are on my eyelids, ¹⁷ _⌊although_⌋* violence is not on my hands, and my prayer is pure.

⁵ Look, God is mighty but* does not despise anyone; he is mighty and _⌊good in understanding_⌋.*

¹⁹ "Teach us what we should say to him; we cannot draw up our case because of the presence of darkness.

⁵ For there is a moment in his anger; there is a lifetime in his favor. Weeping lodges for the evening, but in the morning comes rejoicing.

⁵ O Yahweh, your loyal love extends into the heavens, your faithfulness unto the clouds. ⁶ Your righteousness is _⌊like the mighty mountains_⌋,* your judgments like the great deep. You save man and beast, O Yahweh. ⁷ How precious is your loyal love, O God, and the children of humankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings.

¹¹ Once God has spoken; twice I have heard this: that strength belongs to God.

⁶ who established the mountains by his strength, the one who is girded with might,

³ Say to God, "How awesome are your works! Because of the greatness of your strength, your enemies will cringe before you.

⁴ And the strength of the king loves justice.* You have established equity; you have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob.

⁶ who made heaven and earth, the sea and all that is in them, the one who keeps faith* forever, ⁷ who executes justice for the oppressed, who gives food for the hungry. Yahweh sets prisoners free;

²¹ Declare and present your case, also let them consult together! Who _⌊made this known_⌋* from _⌊former times_⌋,* declared it from _⌊of old_⌋?* Was it not I, Yahweh? And there is no other god besides me, a righteous God besides me, and no savior besides me.

⁹ In all their distress, _⌊there was no distress_⌋,* and the messenger of his _⌊presence_⌋* saved them, in his love and compassion he himself redeemed them, and he lifted them up, and he supported them all the days of old.

³² For even though he causes grief he has compassion according to the greatness of his royal love. ³³ He does not _⌊afflict willingly_⌋,* or grieve _⌊anyone_⌋.*

²³ Have I delight by any means* in the death of the wicked, _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh, and not at his turning from his way, _⌊so that_⌋* he lives?

³² For I have no pleasure in the death of the dying," _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh. "And so repent* and live!"

¹³ And do not bring us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.*

²² All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows who the Son is except the Father and who the Father is except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wants to reveal him."*

¹⁶ the one who alone possesses immortality, who lives in unapproachable light, whom no human being has seen nor is able to see, to whom be honor and eternal power. Amen.

¹⁰ For they disciplined us for a few days according to what seemed appropriate to them, but he does so for our benefit, in order that we can have a share in his holiness.

¹³ He is capturing the wise in their craftiness, and the schemes of the wily are rushed.

⁴ But with you is forgiveness, so that you may be feared."

¹¹ I looked again and saw under the sun that the race does not belong to the swift, the battle does not belong to the mighty, food does not belong to the wise, wealth does not belong to the intelligent, and success* does not belong to the skillful, for time and chance befalls all of them.

²¹ Ah! Those who are wise in their own eyes and have understanding _⌊in their view_⌋!*

³⁹ And I will give to them one heart and one way, to revere me _⌊forever_⌋,* for good to them, and to their children after them.

⁹ And it will be to me a name of jubilation, a praise, and a glory before all the nations of the earth, who will hear all the good that I will do for them, and they will fear,* and they will tremble because of all the good, and because of all the prosperity that I will provide for it.'

⁵ Afterward the children of Israel will return and seek Yahweh their God and David their king. They will come in fear to Yahweh and to his goodness at the end of days.

²⁸ And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but are not able to kill the soul, but instead be afraid of the one who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

²⁵ At that time Jesus answered and* said, "I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent, and have revealed them to young children.* ²⁶ Yes, Father, for to do so _⌊was your gracious will_⌋.*

²¹ At that same time he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, "I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and have revealed them to young children. Yes, Father, for this was pleasing before you.

⁴ "And I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body, and after these things do not have anything more to do. ⁵ But I will show you whom you should fear: fear the one who has authority, after the killing, to throw you* into hell! Yes, I tell you, fear this one!

⁴ Or do you despise the wealth of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance?

²⁰ Well said! They were broken off because of unbelief, but you stand firm because of faith. Do not think arrogant thoughts, but be afraid. ²¹ For if God did not spare the _⌊natural_⌋* branches, neither will he spare you.* ²² See, then, the kindness and severity of God: severity upon those who have fallen, but upon you the kindness of God—if you continue in his kindness, for otherwise you also will be cut off.

²⁶ For consider your calling, brothers, that not many were wise according to human standards,* not many were powerful, not many were well born.

¹⁹ For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God, for it is written, "The one who catches the wise in their craftiness,"*
