¹⁷ that I will certainly bless you and greatly multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven, and as the sand that is by the shore of the sea. And your offspring will take possession of the gate of his enemies.

² And I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you, and I will make your name great. And you will be a blessing.

¹⁶ I will make your descendants like the dust of the earth which, if anyone were able to count the dust of the earth, your descendants would be so counted.

⁵ And he brought him outside and said, "Look toward the heavens and count the stars if you are able to count them." And he said to him, "So shall your offspring be."

⁶ And I will make you _⌊exceedingly_⌋* fruitful. I will make you a nation, and kings shall go out from you.

⁶⁰ And they blessed Rebekah and said to her, "You are our sister; may you become countless thousands; and may your offspring take possession of the gate of his enemies."

⁴ And I will multiply your descendants like the stars of heaven, and I will give to your descendants all these lands. And all nations of the earth will be blessed through your offspring,

²⁸ May God give you of the dew of heaven and of the fatness of the earth, and abundance of grain and new wine. ²⁹ Let peoples serve you, and nations bow down to you; Be lord of your brothers, and may the sons of your mother bow down to you. Cursed be those cursing you, and blessed be those blessing you."

³ Now, may El-Shaddai* bless you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, so that you become an assembly of peoples.

¹⁴ Your descendants shall be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west, and to the east, and to the north and to the south. And all the families of the earth will be blessed through you and through your descendants. ¹⁵ Now behold, I am with you, and I will keep you wherever you go. And I will bring you to this land, for I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised to you." ¹⁶ Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, "Surely Yahweh _⌊is indeed_⌋* in this place and I did not know!" ¹⁷ Then he was afraid and said, "How awesome is this place! _⌊This is nothing else than the house of God_⌋,* and this is the gate of heaven!" ¹⁸ And Jacob rose early in the morning, and he took the stone that he had put under his head and set it up as a stone pillar, and poured oil on top of it. ¹⁹ And he called the name of that place Bethel; however, the name of the city was formerly Luz. ²⁰ And Jacob made a vow* saying, "If God will be with me and protect me on this way that I am going, and gives me food to eat and clothing to wear, ²¹ and if I return in peace to the house of my father, then Yahweh will become my God. ²² And this stone that I have set up as a pillar shall be the house of God, and of all that you give to me I will certainly give a tenth to you."

¹² Now you yourself said, 'I will surely deal well with you and make your offspring as the sand of the sea that cannot be counted for abundance.'"

²⁵ Because of the God of your father he will help you and by Shaddai* he will bless you with the blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that crouches beneath, blessings of the breasts and the womb. ²⁶ The blessings of your father are superior to the blessings of my ancestors, to the bounty of the everlasting hills. May they be on the head of Joseph, and on the forehead of the prince of his brothers.

¹⁷ I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near; a star will go out from Jacob, and a scepter will rise from Israel; it will crush the foreheads of Moab and destroy all the children of Seth. ¹⁸ Edom will be a captive; Seir, its enemies, will be a captive, and Israel will be acting _⌊courageously_⌋.* ¹⁹ Someone* from Jacob will rule and will destroy a remnant* from the city."

¹⁰ Yahweh your God has multiplied you, and look; you are today as the stars of the heaven _⌊in number_⌋.*

¹⁹ then his father and his mother shall take hold of him, and they shall bring him out to the elders of his city and to the gate of his _⌊town_⌋,*

² And all of these blessings shall come upon you, and _⌊they shall have an effect on you_⌋* if you listen to the voice of Yahweh your God: ³ "You will be blessed in the city, and you will be blessed in the field. ⁴ "Blessed will be the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground and the fruit of your livestock, _⌊the calf of your cattle and the lambs of your flock_⌋.* ⁵ "Blessed will be your basket and your kneading trough. ⁶ "Blessed will you be _⌊when you come in and blessed will you be when you go out_⌋.* ⁷ "Yahweh will cause your enemies _⌊who rise up against you to be defeated before you_⌋;* on one road* they shall come out against you, but on seven roads* they shall flee _⌊before you_⌋.* ⁸ Yahweh will command _⌊concerning you_⌋* the blessing to be in your barns and _⌊in all your endeavors_⌋;* and he will bless you in the land that Yahweh your God is giving to you. ⁹ Yahweh will establish you for _⌊himself_⌋* as a holy people as he has sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of Yahweh your God and you walk in his ways. ¹⁰ And all of the peoples of the earth shall see that _⌊by the name of Yahweh you are called_⌋,* and _⌊they shall fear you_⌋.* ¹¹ And _⌊Yahweh will make you successful and prosperous_⌋,* in the fruit of your womb and on the land that Yahweh swore to your ancestors* to give to you. ¹² Yahweh shall open for you his _⌊rich_⌋* storehouse, even the heavens, to give the rain for* your land in its time and to bless all of the work of your hand, and you will lend to many nations; you will not borrow from them. ¹³ And Yahweh shall make you* as head and not the tail, and you shall be only at the top of the nations, and you shall not be at the bottom, if you listen to the commandments of Yahweh your God that I am commanding you _⌊today_⌋* _⌊and diligently observe them_⌋.*

¹ After the death of Moses the servant of Yahweh, Yahweh said to Joshua son of Nun, the assistant* of Moses, saying, ² "My servant Moses is dead. Get up and cross the Jordan, you and all this people, into the land that I am giving to them, to the _⌊Israelites_⌋.* ³ Every place that the soles of your feet will tread, I have given it to you, as I promised* to Moses. ⁴ From the wilderness _⌊and the Lebanon_⌋,* up to the great river, the river Euphrates, all of the land of the Hittites, and up to _⌊the great sea in the west_⌋,* will be your territory. ⁵ No one will stand before you* all the days of your life. Just as I was with Moses, so will I be with you; I will not fail you, and I will not forsake you. ⁶ Be strong and courageous, for you will give the people this land as an inheritance that I swore to their ancestors* to give them. ⁷ Only be strong and very courageous _⌊to observe diligently the whole law_⌋* that Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn aside from it, to the right or left, so that you may succeed _⌊wherever you go_⌋.* ⁸ The scroll of this law will not depart from your mouth; you will meditate on it day and night so that _⌊you may observe diligently all that is written_⌋* in it. For then you will succeed in your ways and prosper. ⁹ Did I not command you? Be strong and courageous! Do not fear or be dismayed, for Yahweh your God is with you _⌊wherever you go_⌋."* ¹⁰ Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying,

¹ It happened afterwards that David attacked the Philistines and subdued them, and he took Metheg Ammah from the hands of the Philistines. ² When he defeated Moab, he measured them with the cord, making them lie on the ground. He measured two cords to kill and _⌊the third cord_⌋* to let live.* So Moab became servants of David, bringing tribute. ³ Then David struck down Hadadezer the son of Rehob, king of Zobah, when he went to restore his monument* at the Euphrates River. ⁴ David captured from him one thousand and seven hundred horsemen and twenty thousand _⌊foot soldiers_⌋.* David hamstrung all the chariot horses, but _⌊from them_⌋* he spared a hundred chariot horses. ⁵ When Aram of Damascus came to help Hadadezer, the king of Zobah, David killed twenty-two thousand men of Aram. ⁶ David placed garrisons in Aram of Damascus, so Aram became servants of David, bringing tribute. Yahweh protected David everywhere he went. ⁷ David took the small round gold shields which had _⌊belonged_⌋* to the servants of Hadadezer, and he brought them to Jerusalem. ⁸ From Betah and from Berothai, the towns of Hadadezer, King David took very many bronze items. ⁹ When Toi, the king of Hamath, heard that David had defeated all the army of Hadadezer, ¹⁰ Toi sent Joram his son to King David _⌊to greet him_⌋* and to congratulate him because he had fought against Hadadezer and defeated him; _⌊for Hadadezer had often been at war with Toi_⌋.* _⌊He brought with him_⌋* objects of silver and objects of gold and objects of bronze. ¹¹ King David dedicated them also to Yahweh along with the silver and the gold that he had dedicated from all of the nations which he had subdued; ¹² from Aram and from Moab and from the _⌊Ammonites_⌋* and from the Philistines and from Amalek and from the plunder of Hadadezer the son of Rehob, the king of Zobah. ¹³ So David made a name for himself when he returned from defeating Aram in the Valley of Salt, eighteen thousand. ¹⁴ He put garrisons in Edom; all over Edom he put garrisons, and all of Edom became servants of David. Yahweh protected David wherever he went. ¹⁵ David reigned over all of Israel, and he* was administering justice and righteousness for all his people. ¹⁶ Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the army, and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was secretary. ¹⁷ Zadok the son of Ahitub and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar were priests and Seraiah was scribe. ¹⁸ Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Kerethites and the Pelethites, and the sons of David were priests.

¹ _⌊Afterwards the king of the Ammonites died_⌋,* and his son Hanun ruled in his place. ² David said, "I will show loyal love with Hanun, the son of Nahash, as his father showed loyal love with me." So David sent to console him concerning his father, by the hand of his servants. And the servants of David came to the land of the _⌊Ammonites_⌋.* ³ But the commanders of the _⌊Ammonites_⌋* said to Hanun their master, "_⌊In your opinion_⌋,* is David honoring your father because he has sent condolences to you? Is it not in order to search the city, to spy it out, and to overthrow it that David sent his servants to you?" ⁴ Then Hanun took the servants of David, and he shaved off half of their beards and cut their garments off in the middle up to their buttocks, then sent them away. ⁵ When they told David, he sent to meet them, for the men were greatly ashamed. And the king said, "Remain in Jericho until your beards have grown, and then you can return." ⁶ When the _⌊Ammonites_⌋* saw that they had become odious to David, the _⌊Ammonites_⌋* sent word and hired Aram Beth-Rehob and Aram-Zobah, twenty thousand infantry; and they also hired the king of Maacah, a thousand men, and the men of Tob, twelve thousand men. ⁷ When David heard, he sent Joab and all the army of mighty warriors. ⁸ The _⌊Ammonites_⌋* came out and _⌊drew up a battle formation_⌋* at the entrance of the gate, but Aram-Zobah and Rehob and the men of Tob and Maacah were alone in the open field. ⁹ When Joab saw that _⌊the battle was to be fought on two fronts_⌋,* he chose from all the members of the elite troops of Israel and _⌊lined them up for battle_⌋* to meet Aram. ¹⁰ The rest of the army he placed into the hand of his brother Abishai, who _⌊arranged them in battle lines_⌋* to meet the _⌊Ammonites_⌋.* ¹¹ Then he said, "If Aram is stronger than I am, you must become my deliverer; but if the _⌊Ammonites_⌋* are too strong for you, then I will come to rescue you. ¹² Be strong, and let us strengthen ourselves for the sake of the people and for the sake of the cities of our God. May Yahweh do what is good in his eyes. ¹³ Joab and all the people who were with him moved forward into the battle against Aram, and they fled from before him. ¹⁴ When the _⌊Ammonites_⌋* saw that Aram had fled, they fled from before Abishai and entered the city. Then Joab returned from fighting against the _⌊Ammonites_⌋* and came to Jerusalem. ¹⁵ When the Arameans saw that they were defeated before Israel, they gathered themselves together. ¹⁶ Then Hadadezer sent and brought out the Arameans who were beyond the Euphrates, and they came to Helam. Now Shobach, the commander of the army of Hadadezer, _⌊was at their head_⌋.* ¹⁷ David was told, so he gathered all Israel and crossed over the Jordan and came to Helam. Aram _⌊arranged themselves in battle lines_⌋* to meet David, and they fought with him. ¹⁸ And Aram fled before Israel, and David killed from the Arameans seven hundred chariot teams and forty thousand horsemen. He struck down Shobach, the commander of his army, and he died there. ¹⁹ When all the kings, the servants of Hadadezer, saw that he had been defeated before Israel, they made peace with Israel and served them, and Aram was afraid to help the _⌊Ammonites_⌋* any longer.

²⁶ King Solomon also built a fleet of ships at Ezion-Geber which is near Elath on the shore of the _⌊Red Sea_⌋* in the land of Edom.

⁸ Ask from me and I will make the nations your heritage, and your possession the ends of the earth. ⁹ You will break them with an iron rod. Like a potter's vessel you will shatter them."

⁸ And may he rule from sea up to sea, and from the River* to the edges of the land. ⁹ Let the desert dwellers bow down before him, and his enemies lick the dust.

²² And you gave to them this land, which you swore to their ancestors* to give to them, a land flowing with milk and honey.

²² As the host of heaven cannot be counted, and the sand of the sea cannot be measured, so I will make numerous the offspring of David my servant and the Levites who minister to me.'"

⁴⁴ And _⌊in the day of those kings_⌋,* the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will _⌊never_⌋* be destroyed, and the kingdom will not be left for another nation,* and it will bring an end to all these kingdoms, but it will stand _⌊forever_⌋.* ⁴⁵ _⌊Inasmuch as_⌋* you saw that a stone from the mountain was chiseled out* but not by hands, and that it crushed the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver and the gold, thereby the great God made known to the king what will be _⌊in the future_⌋,* and the dream is certain and its explanation trustworthy."

⁹ For her wounds are incurable, because it has come to Judah. It has reached to the gate of my people, to Jerusalem.

⁶⁸ "Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, because he has visited to help and _⌊has redeemed_⌋* his people, ⁶⁹ and has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David, ⁷⁰ just as he spoke through the mouth of his holy prophets from earliest times— ⁷¹ salvation from our enemies and from the hand of all those who hate us, ⁷² to show mercy to our fathers and to remember his holy covenant, ⁷³ the oath that he swore to Abraham our father, to grant us ⁷⁴ that we, being rescued from the hand of our enemies, could serve him without fear ⁷⁵ in holiness and righteousness before him all our days.

⁵⁷ But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!

³ Blessed is* the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,

¹⁵ And the seventh angel blew the trumpet, and there was a loud voice in heaven saying,
"The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he will reign _⌊forever and ever_⌋*."
