And Yahweh did to Sarah as he had promised. ² And she conceived, and Sarah bore to Abraham a son in his old age at the appointed time that God had told him. ³ And Abraham called the name of his son who was born to him, whom Sarah bore to him, Isaac. ⁴ And Abraham circumcised Isaac his son when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him. ⁵ And Abraham was one hundred years old when Isaac his son was born to him. ⁶ And Sarah said, "God has made laughter for me; all who hear will laugh for me." ⁷ And she said, "Who would announce to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne a son to Abraham in his old age." ⁸ And the child grew and was weaned. And Abraham made a great feast on the day Isaac was weaned. ⁹ And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had borne Abraham, mocking. ¹⁰ Then she said to Abraham, "Drive out this slave woman and her son, for the son of this slave woman will not be heir with my son, with Isaac." ¹¹ And the matter _⌊displeased Abraham very much_⌋* on account of his son. ¹² Then God said to Abraham, "_⌊Do not be displeased_⌋* on account of the boy and on account of the slave woman. _⌊Listen to everything that Sarah said to you_⌋,* for through Isaac your offspring will be named. ¹³ And I will also make the son of the slave woman into a nation, for he is your offspring." ¹⁴ Then Abraham rose up early in the morning and took bread and a skin of water and gave it to Hagar, putting it on her shoulder. And he sent her away with the child, and she went, wandering about in the wilderness, in Beersheba. ¹⁵ And when the water was finished from the skin, she put the child under one of the bushes. ¹⁶ And she went and _⌊she sat a good distance away_⌋,* for she said, "Let me not see the child's death." So she sat away from him and lifted up her voice and wept. ¹⁷ And God heard the cry* of the boy and the angel of God called to Hagar from the heavens and said to her, "_⌊What is the matter_⌋* Hagar? Do not be afraid, for God has heard the cry* of the boy _⌊from where he is_⌋.* ¹⁸ Get up, take up the boy and take him with your hand, for I will make him a great nation." ¹⁹ And God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water. And she went and filled the skin with water and gave a drink to the boy. ²⁰ And God was with the boy, and he grew and lived in the wilderness. And his mother took a wife for him from the land of Egypt. ²² And it happened that at that time, Abimelech and Phicol, the commander of his army, said to Abraham, "God is with you, in all that you do. ²³ So now, swear to me here by God that you will not deal with me falsely, or with my descendants, or my posterity. According to the kindness that I have done to you, you shall pledge to do with me and with the land where you have dwelled as an alien." ²⁴ And Abraham said, "I swear." ²⁵ Then Abraham complained to Abimelech on account of the well of water that servants of Abimelech had seized. ²⁶ And Abimelech said, "I do not know who did this thing, neither did you tell me, nor have I heard of it except for today." ²⁷ And Abraham took sheep and cattle and gave them to Abimelech. And the two of them _⌊made_⌋* a covenant. ²⁸ Then Abraham set off seven ewe-lambs of the flock by themselves. ²⁹ And Abimelech said to Abraham, "What is the meaning of these seven ewe-lambs that you have set off by themselves?" ³⁰ And he said, "You shall take the seven ewe-lambs from my hand _⌊as proof on my behalf_⌋* that I dug this well." ³¹ Therefore that place is called Beersheba, because there the two of them swore an oath. ³² And they _⌊made_⌋* a covenant at Beersheba. And Abimelech, and Phicol his army commander stood and returned to the land of the Philistines. ³³ And he* planted a tamarisk tree in Beersheba, and there he called on the name of Yahweh, _⌊the everlasting God_⌋.* ³⁴ And Abraham dwelled as an alien in the land of the Philistines many days.

¹⁶ And I will bless her; moreover, I give to you from her a son. And I will bless her, and _⌊she shall give rise to nations_⌋.* Kings of peoples shall come* from her."

¹⁹ And God said, "No, but Sarah your wife shall bear a son for you, and you shall call his name Isaac. And I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant to his offspring after him.

²¹ But my covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah shall bear to you at this appointed time next year."

¹⁰ And he* said, "I will certainly return to you _⌊in the spring_⌋,* and look, Sarah your wife will have a son." Now Sarah was listening at the doorway of the tent, and which was behind him.

¹⁴ Is anything too difficult for Yahweh? At the appointed time I will return to you _⌊in the spring_⌋* and Sarah shall have a son."

²⁴ And Joseph said to his brothers, "I am about to die, but God will certainly visit you and bring you up from this land to the land that he swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob."

¹⁶ Go and gather the elders of Israel and say to them, 'Yahweh, the God of your ancestors,* appeared to me, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, "I have carefully attended to you and what has been done to you in Egypt."

³¹ And the people believed when they heard that Yahweh had attended to the _⌊Israelites_⌋* and that he had seen their misery, and they knelt down and they worshiped.

⁵ You will not bow down to them, and you will not serve them, because I am Yahweh your God, a jealous God, punishing the guilt of the parents on the children on the third and on the fourth generations* of those hating me,

⁶ And she got up, she and her daughters-in-law, and returned from the countryside of Moab, because she had heard in the countryside of Moab that Yahweh had _⌊come to the aid of_⌋* his people to give food to them.

²¹ Yahweh took note of Hannah, and she conceived and gave birth to three sons and two daughters, while the young man Samuel grew up with Yahweh.

⁶ The words of Yahweh are pure words like silver refined in the crucible on the ground, refined seven times.

⁴ Remember me, O Yahweh, when you show favor to your people. Look after me when you deliver,

³⁵ Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

²³ But the one by the female slave was born according to human descent, and the one by the free woman through the promise,

²⁸ But you, brothers, are children of the promise, just as Isaac.

² in the hope of eternal life which God, who does not lie, promised before eternal ages,

¹⁶ And he said, "At this time _⌊next spring_⌋,* you will be embracing a son." She said, "No, my lord, O man of God! You must not tell a lie to your servant!" ¹⁷ But the woman conceived, and she bore a son _⌊in the spring_⌋,* which Elisha had promised to her.

²⁴ Now after these days, his wife Elizabeth conceived, and she kept herself in seclusion for five months, saying, ²⁵ "Thus the Lord has done for me in the days in which he has concerned himself with me,* to take away my disgrace among people."

³⁶ And behold, your relative Elizabeth—she also has conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month for her who was called barren.

⁸ And he gave him the covenant of circumcision, and so he became the father of Isaac and circumcised him on the eighth day, and Isaac did so with* Jacob, and Jacob did so with* the twelve patriarchs.

⁹ For the statement of the promise is this: "At this time I will return and _⌊Sarah will have_⌋* a son."*

²² For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the female slave and one by the free woman.

¹¹ By faith also, _⌊with Sarah_⌋*,* he received _⌊the ability to procreate_⌋* even _⌊past the normal age_⌋*, because he regarded the one who had promised to be faithful.

⁶ And Sarah said, "God has made laughter for me; all who hear will laugh for me."

¹² Then God said to Abraham, "_⌊Do not be displeased_⌋* on account of the boy and on account of the slave woman. _⌊Listen to everything that Sarah said to you_⌋,* for through Isaac your offspring will be named.

² And he said, "Take your son, your only child, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains where* I will tell you."

³ I took your ancestor* Abraham from beyond the river* and led him through all the land of Canaan, and I increased his offspring; I gave him Isaac,

² Abraham became the father of Isaac, and Isaac became the father of Jacob, and Jacob became the father of Judah and his brothers,

⁷ nor are they all children because they are descendants of Abraham, but "In Isaac will your descendants be named."*

¹⁸ with reference to whom it was said, "In Isaac your descendants will be named,"*

¹⁰ This is my covenant which you shall keep, between me and you, and also with* your offspring after you: Every male among you shall be circumcised. ¹¹ And you shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and you. ¹² And _⌊at eight days of age_⌋* you shall yourselves circumcise every male belonging to your generations and _⌊the servant born in your house and the one bought from any foreigner_⌋* who is not from your offspring.

⁴⁸ And when an alien dwells with you and he wants to prepare the Passover for Yahweh, every male belonging to him must be circumcised, and then he may come near to prepare it, and he will be as the native of the land, but any uncircumcised man may not eat it.

³ And on the eighth day his foreskin's flesh shall be circumcised.

³² * All of the things* that I am commanding you, _⌊you must diligently observe_⌋;* you shall not add to it, and you shall not take away from it."

⁶ And they were both righteous in the sight of God, living blamelessly in all the commandments and regulations of the Lord.

⁵⁹ And it happened that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they were wanting to name him _⌊after_⌋* his father Zechariah.

²¹ And when eight days were completed _⌊so that he could be circumcised_⌋,* he was named Jesus, his name that he was called by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.

²² Because of this Moses has given you circumcision (not that it is from Moses, but from the fathers), and you circumcise a man on the Sabbath. ²³ If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses would not be broken, are you angry with me because I made a whole man well* on the Sabbath?

¹ When* Abram was ninety-nine years old Yahweh appeared to Abram. And he said to him, "I am El-Shaddai;* walk before me and be blameless

¹⁷ And Abraham fell upon his face and laughed. And he said in his heart, "_⌊Can a child be born to a man a hundred years old_⌋,* or _⌊can Sarah bear a child at ninety_⌋?"*

¹⁹ And not being weak in faith, he considered his own body as good as dead, * because he* was approximately a hundred years old, and the deadness of Sarah's womb.

¹² So* Sarah laughed to herself saying, "After I am worn out and my husband is old, shall this pleasure be to me?" ¹³ Then Yahweh said to Abraham, "What is this that Sarah laughed, saying, 'Is it indeed true that I will bear a child, now that I have grown old?' ¹⁴ Is anything too difficult for Yahweh? At the appointed time I will return to you _⌊in the spring_⌋* and Sarah shall have a son." ¹⁵ But Sarah denied it, saying, "I did not laugh," because she was afraid. He* said, "No, but you did laugh."

²⁶ She said, "Excuse me, my lord. As _⌊you live_⌋,* my lord, I am the woman who stood with you in this place to pray to Yahweh.

⁹ He causes the barren woman of the house to dwell as the happy mother of children. Praise Yah!*

² Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with rejoicing. Then they said among the nations, "Yahweh has done great things for these people."

¹⁵ Can a woman forget her suckling, refrain from having compassion on the child of her womb? Indeed, these may forget, but* I, I will not forget you!

²¹ Then* you will say in your heart,
"Who has borne me these?" And, "I was bereaved and barren, exiled and thrust away; so* who raised these? Look at me! I was left alone; _⌊where have these come from_⌋?"*

¹ "Sing for joy, barren woman; who has not borne! Burst forth into rejoicing and rejoice, she who has not been in labor! For the children of the desolate woman are more than the children of the married woman," says Yahweh.

¹⁴ And _⌊you will experience joy and exultation_⌋,* and many will rejoice at his birth.

⁴⁶ And Mary said,
"My soul exalts the Lord, ⁴⁷ and my spirit has rejoiced greatly in God my Savior, ⁴⁸ because he has looked upon the humble state of his female slave, for behold, from now on all generations will consider me blessed, ⁴⁹ because the Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name. ⁵⁰ And his mercy is for generation after generation to those who fear him. ⁵¹ He has done a mighty deed with his arm; he has dispersed the proud in the thoughts of their hearts. ⁵² He has brought down rulers from their thrones, and has exalted the lowly. ⁵³ He has filled those who are hungry with good things, and those who are rich he has sent away empty-handed. ⁵⁴ He has helped Israel his servant, remembering his mercy, ⁵⁵ just as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his descendants _⌊forever_⌋."*

⁵⁸ And her neighbors and relatives heard that _⌊the Lord had shown his great mercy to her_⌋,* and they rejoiced with her.

²¹ A woman, when she gives birth, experiences pain because her hour has come. But when her* child is born, she no longer remembers the affliction, on account of the joy that a human being has been born into the world. ²² So you also are experiencing sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy from you.

¹⁵ Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep.

²⁷ For it is written,
"Rejoice, O barren woman, who does not give birth to children; burst out and shout, you who do not have birth pains, because many are the children of the desolate woman, even more than those of the one who has a husband."* ²⁸ But you, brothers, are children of the promise, just as Isaac.

¹¹ Now Abraham and Sarah were old, _⌊advanced in age_⌋;* _⌊the way of women_⌋* had ceased to be for Sarah. ¹² So* Sarah laughed to herself saying, "After I am worn out and my husband is old, shall this pleasure be to me?"

²³ Because there is no sorcery against Jacob, and there is no divination against Israel. Now* it will be said to Jacob and Israel, what God has done!

³² "Yes, ask, please, about former days that _⌊preceded you_⌋* from the day that God created humankind on the earth; ask even from one end of the heaven up to the other end of heaven _⌊whether anything ever happened_⌋* like this great thing or _⌊whether anything like it was ever heard_⌋.* ³³ Has a people ever heard the voice of God speaking from the midst of the fire, just as you heard it, and lived? ³⁴ Or has a god ever attempted to go to take for himself* a nation from the midst of a nation, using trials and signs and wonders and war, with an outstretched arm and with great and awesome deeds, like all that Yahweh your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?

⁸ There is none like you among the gods, O Lord, and there are no works like yours.

¹⁰ For you are great and doing wondrous things; you alone are God.

⁸ Who has heard anything like this? Who has seen anything like these things? Can a land be born in one day? Or can a nation be born in a moment?
Yet when she was in labor, Zion indeed gave birth to her children.

¹⁰ in order that the many-sided wisdom of God might be made known now to the rulers and the authorities in the heavenly places through the church,

¹⁰ whenever he should come to be glorified on that day by his saints and to be marveled at by all who believe, because our testimony was believed among you,

³ But _⌊he urged them strongly_⌋,* and they turned aside with him and came into his house. And he made a meal for them and baked unleavened bread, and they ate.

³⁰ So he made a meal for them, and they ate and drank.

²² So Laban gathered all the men of the place and prepared a feast.

²⁰ And it happened that on the third day, which was Pharaoh's birthday, he made a feast for all his servants. And he lifted up the head of the chief cupbearer and the head of the chief baker in the midst of his servants.

³⁶ Then Abigail went to Nabal, and look, _⌊he was holding a feast_⌋* in his house like the feast of the king. _⌊Nabal was enjoying himself_⌋,* and he was very drunk, so she did not tell him a thing, _⌊nothing at all_⌋,* until the light of morning.

²⁰ Then Abner came to David in Hebron and with him were twenty men. David had prepared a feast for Abner and for the men who were with him.

¹⁵ Then Solomon awoke, and look, it was a dream, and he came to Jerusalem and stood before the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and he offered burnt offerings and presented fellowship offerings, and he held a feast for all of his servants.

³ he gave a banquet in the third year of his reign for all his officials and servants. The army of Persia and Media and the nobles and officials of the provinces were in his presence

² Rather I have soothed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother, like the weaned child is my soul with me.

⁸ And when she had weaned Lo-ruhamah,* she conceived and bore a son.

¹ Now* Sarai, the wife of Abram, had borne him no children. And she had a female Egyptian servant, and her name was Hagar.

³ Then* Sarai, the wife of Abram, took Hagar, her Egyptian servant, after Abram had lived ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to Abram her husband as his wife. ⁴ And he went in to Hagar, and she conceived. And when she* saw that she had conceived, then her mistress grew small in her eyes. ⁵ And Sarai said to Abram, "may my harm be upon you. _⌊I had my servant sleep with you_⌋,* and when she saw that she had conceived, _⌊she no longer respected me_⌋.* May Yahweh judge between me and you!" ⁶ And Abram said to Sarai, "Look, your servant is _⌊under your authority_⌋.* Do to her that which is good in your eyes." And Sarai mistreated her, and she* fled from her presence.

¹⁵ And Hagar had a child for Abram, a son. And Abram called the name of his son whom Hagar bore to him, Ishmael.

²⁰ And as for Ishmael, I have heard you. Behold, I will bless him and I will make him fruitful, and I will multiply him _⌊exceedingly_⌋.* He shall father twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation.

²³ Then he went up from there to Bethel; as he was going up along the way, young boys came out from the city and mocked at him and said to him, "Go up, baldhead; go up, baldhead!" ²⁴ When he turned around and saw them, he cursed them in the name of Yahweh. Then two bears came out of the forest and mauled forty-two boys among them.

¹⁰ And it happened that the runners were passing from city to city in the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, and up to Zebulun, but they were laughing at them and mocking them.

¹⁶ But they were mocking the messengers of God and despising his words and scoffing at his prophets until the wrath of Yahweh rose against his people until there was no remedy.

¹ * Now it happened when Sanballat heard that we were building the wall, he became angry and greatly provoked, and he mocked the Jews. ² Then he said before his brothers and the army of Samaria, "What are the feeble Jews doing? Will they restore these things for themselves? Will they sacrifice? Will they finish it in a day? Will they revive the stones from the piles of rubble—even those burned up?" ³ Tobiah the Ammonite was beside him and said, "Their wall of stone that they are building would break down if a fox went on it!" ⁴ Hear, our God, for we are despised. Turn their scorn on their head and give them over to plunder in the land of captivity. ⁵ Do not cover their guilt, and do not let their sin be blotted out from before you. They have _⌊provoked the builders to anger_⌋.*

¹ "But now those younger than I, as far as days, laugh at me, whose fathers I rejected for setting with the dogs of my sheep and goats.

⁶ But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by humankind and despised by people.

¹⁰ As with a shattering in my bones my oppressors taunt me, while they say to me _⌊all day_⌋,* "Where is your God?"

¹³ You have made us a taunt to our neighbors, a derision and a scorn to those around us. ¹⁴ You have made us a byword among the nations, a shaking of the head among the peoples.

¹¹ Even by his acts, a _⌊young man_⌋* will make himself known, whether his acts are pure and upright.

⁷ Jerusalem remembers the days of her misery and wanderings, all her treasures that were from the days of long ago. When her people fell into the hand of the enemy, there was no one helping her; the enemies saw her, they mocked at her destruction.

²⁹ But just as at that time the child born according to human descent persecuted the child born according to the Spirit, so also now.

³⁶ And others _⌊experienced mocking and flogging_⌋*, and in addition bonds and imprisonment.

¹¹ And Abraham said, "Because I thought, surely there is no fear of God in this place; they will kill me on account of the matter of my wife.

¹⁰ And Abraham stretched out his hand and took the knife to slaughter his son.

⁶ But to the sons of Abraham's concubines Abraham gave gifts. And while he was still living he sent them away eastward, away from his son Isaac, to the land of the east.

¹⁹ Now these are the generations* of Isaac, the son of Abraham. Abraham fathered Isaac,

⁶ And Esau took his wives and his sons and his daughters, and all the persons of his household, and his sheep and goats, and all his cattle, and all the goods that he had acquired in the land of Canaan, and went to a land away from his brother Jacob. ⁷ For their possessions were _⌊too many to live together_⌋,* so that the land of their sojourning was not able to support them on account of their livestock.

¹¹ But I say to you that many will come from east and west and _⌊be seated at the banquet_⌋* with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. ¹² But the sons of the kingdom will be thrown out into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth!"

¹³ Then the king said to the servants, 'Tie him up _⌊hand and foot_⌋* and* throw him into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth!'

³⁵ And the slave does not remain in the household _⌊forever_⌋;* the son remains _⌊forever_⌋.*

¹⁸ For if the inheritance is from the law, it is no longer from the promise, but God graciously gave it to Abraham through the promise.

⁷ so that you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, also an heir through God.

²² For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the female slave and one by the free woman. ²³ But the one by the female slave was born according to human descent, and the one by the free woman through the promise, ²⁴ which things are spoken allegorically, for these women are two covenants, one from Mount Sinai, bearing children for slavery, who is Hagar. ²⁵ Now Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and corresponds to the present Jerusalem, for she is a slave with her children. ²⁶ But the Jerusalem above is free, which is our mother. ²⁷ For it is written,
"Rejoice, O barren woman, who does not give birth to children; burst out and shout, you who do not have birth pains, because many are the children of the desolate woman, even more than those of the one who has a husband."* ²⁸ But you, brothers, are children of the promise, just as Isaac. ²⁹ But just as at that time the child born according to human descent persecuted the child born according to the Spirit, so also now. ³⁰ But what does the scripture say? "Drive out the female slave and her son, for the son of the female slave will never inherit with the son"* of the free woman. ³¹ Therefore, brothers, we are not children of the female slave but of the free woman.

⁴ into an inheritance imperishable and undefiled and unfading, reserved in heaven for you

¹⁹ They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us. But they went out*, in order that it might be shown that all of them are not of us.

¹⁸ And Abraham said to God, "Oh that Ishmael might live before you!"

¹ And it happened that after these things, God tested Abraham. And he said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am." ² And he said, "Take your son, your only child, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains where* I will tell you."

³³ * The king was upset, and he went up to the upper room of the gate and wept. He said as he went, "My son, Absalom, my son, my son, Absalom. _⌊If only_⌋* I had died instead of you, Absalom, my son, my son."

³⁷ The one who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and the one who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

¹¹ Now all discipline seems for the moment not to be joyful but painful, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness for those who are trained by it.

⁷ Then Yahweh said to Samuel, "Listen to the voice of the people concerning all that they say to you; for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected me from being king over them.

⁹ And so then, listen to their voice. However, you must earnestly warn them; you must explain to them the custom of the king who will rule over them."

¹⁰ who from the beginning declares the end, and from before, things that have not been done, who says, 'My plan shall stand,' and, 'I will accomplish* all my wishes,'*

⁷ nor are they all children because they are descendants of Abraham, but "In Isaac will your descendants be named."* ⁸ That is, it is not the children _⌊by human descent_⌋* who are children of God, but the children of the promise are counted as descendants.

¹⁰ And the angel of Yahweh said to her, "_⌊I will greatly multiply_⌋* your offspring, so that they cannot be counted for their abundance."

¹⁸ Get up, take up the boy and take him with your hand, for I will make him a great nation."

¹² Now these are the generations* of Ishmael, the son of Abraham, that Hagar the Egyptian, the maidservant of Sarah, bore to Abraham. ¹³ And these are the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names according to their family records. The firstborn of Ishmael was Nebaioth, then Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam, ¹⁴ Mishma, Dumah, Massa, ¹⁵ Hadad, Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah. ¹⁶ These are the sons of Ishmael, and these are their names by their villages and by their encampments—12 leaders according to their tribes. ¹⁷ Now these are the years of the life of Ishmael: 137 years. And he passed away and died, and was gathered to his people. ¹⁸ They settled from Havilah to Shur, which was opposite* Egypt, going toward Asshur, opposite;* he _⌊settled_⌋* opposite* all his brothers.

⁷ And the angel of Yahweh found her at a spring of water in the wilderness, at the spring by the road of Shur.

²⁷ And Abraham arose early in the morning and went to the place where he had stood before Yahweh.

³¹ Therefore that place is called Beersheba, because there the two of them swore an oath.

³³ And he* planted a tamarisk tree in Beersheba, and there he called on the name of Yahweh, _⌊the everlasting God_⌋.*

³ And Abraham rose up early in the morning and saddled his donkey. And he took two of his servants with him, and Isaac his son. And he chopped wood for a burnt offering. And he got up and went to the place which God had told him.

¹⁹ And Abraham returned to his servants, and they got up and went together to Beersheba. And Abraham lived in Beersheba.

⁵⁴ And he and the men who were with him ate and drank, and they spent the night. And they got up in the morning, and he said, "Let me go to my master."

³¹ And they arose early in the morning and each one swore to the other,* and Isaac sent them away. And they left him in peace.

³³ And he called it Sheba. Therefore the name of the city is Beersheba unto this day.

¹⁵ And a man found him, and behold, he* was wandering about in a field. And the man asked him, "What do you seek?"

¹ So Israel journeyed with all that he had, and he came to Beersheba and offered sacrifices to the God of his father, Isaac.

³ Then he became afraid,* got up, and _⌊fled for his life_⌋.* He came to Beersheba which belongs to Judah, and he left his servant there.

⁴ They wandered in the wilderness, in a desert. They could find no way* to a city to inhabit.

⁶⁰ I hurry and do not delay to heed your commands.

¹⁴ He who blesses his neighbor with a loud voice early in the morning, a curse will be reckoned to him.

¹⁰ Whatever your hand finds to do—do it with all your might; for in Sheol—where you are going—no one works, plans, knows, or thinks about anything.

⁸ For Heshbon withers the fields, the vine of Sibmah; rulers of nations have broken down her tendrils, they reached up to Jazer, they wandered to the desert; her shoots spread abroad, they crossed over the sea.

²³ But the one by the female slave was born according to human descent, and the one by the free woman through the promise, ²⁴ which things are spoken allegorically, for these women are two covenants, one from Mount Sinai, bearing children for slavery, who is Hagar. ²⁵ Now Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and corresponds to the present Jerusalem, for she is a slave with her children.

¹⁴ Then Abraham rose up early in the morning and took bread and a skin of water and gave it to Hagar, putting it on her shoulder. And he sent her away with the child, and she went, wandering about in the wilderness, in Beersheba.

²² And Moses caused Israel to set out from the _⌊Red Sea_⌋,* and they went out into the desert of Shur, and they traveled three days in the desert, and they did not find water. ²³ And they came to Marah, and they were not able to drink water from Marah because it was bitter. Therefore _⌊it was named_⌋* Marah. ²⁴ And the people grumbled against Moses, saying, "What shall we drink?" ²⁵ And he cried out to Yahweh, and Yahweh showed him a piece of wood, and he threw it into the water, and the water became sweet. There he made a rule and regulation for them, and there he tested them.

¹ And all the community of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* set out from the desert of Sin for their journeys according to the command of Yahweh, and they camped in Rephidim, and there was no water for the people to drink. ² And the people quarreled with Moses, and they said, "Give us water so that we can drink." And Moses said to them, "Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test Yahweh?" ³ And the people thirsted for water, and the people grumbled against Moses and said, "Why _⌊ever_⌋* did you bring us up from Egypt to kill me* and my sons and my cattle with thirst?"

⁹ So the king of Israel and the king of Judah and the king of Edom went around, a way of seven days, but there was no water for the army or for the animals which _⌊were with them_⌋.*

¹ A psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah.*
O God, you are my God; I will seek you diligently. My soul thirsts for you; my flesh longs for you as in a dry and weary land without water.

¹² The _⌊ironsmith_⌋* works in the coals with his tool and forms it with hammers. And he makes it with _⌊his strong arm_⌋;* indeed, he becomes hungry, and _⌊he lacks_⌋* strength; he does not drink water, and he is faint.

³ And their nobles send their servants for water. They come to the pits, they find no water. They return with their vessels _⌊empty_⌋.* They are ashamed, and they are confounded, and they cover their heads.*

³⁸ And Esau said to his father, "Have you only one blessing, my father? Bless me also, my father!" And Esau lifted up his voice and wept.

¹¹ And Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice and wept.

³⁴ For how can I go up to my father if the boy is not with me? _⌊I do not want to see_⌋* the misery which will find my father."

⁴ And as the angel of Yahweh spoke these words to all the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* the people _⌊wept bitterly_⌋.*

⁹ May Yahweh _⌊grant that you_⌋* find a resting place, each in the house of her husband." And she kissed them, and they lifted up their voices and cried.

¹⁶ When David finished speaking these words to Saul, Saul said, "Is this your voice, my son David?" And Saul lifted up his voice and wept.

⁴ Then David and the people who were with him raised their voices and wept until there was not enough strength in them to weep.

²⁶ Then the woman whose son was the living one spoke to the king because her compassion was aroused for her son, and she said, "Please, my lord, give her the living child, but certainly do not kill him!" The other one was saying, "As for me, so for you! Divide him!"

⁶ For _⌊how can I bear_⌋* to look on the disaster that will find my people, and _⌊how can I bear_⌋* to look on the destruction of my family?"

¹⁰ " 'I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants* of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication, and they will look to me whom they pierced, and they shall mourn over him, as one wails over an only child, and they will grieve bitterly over him as one grieves bitterly over a firstborn.

²⁰ And he set out and* came to his own father. But while* he was still a long way away, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran _⌊and embraced him_⌋* and kissed him.

¹ After these things the word of Yahweh came* to Abram in a vision, saying: "Do not be afraid, Abram; I am your shield, and your reward shall be very great."

⁹ Then* the angel of Yahweh said to her, "Return to your mistress and submit yourself under _⌊her authority_⌋."*

¹¹ And the angel of Yahweh said to her:
"Behold, you are pregnant and shall have a son. And you shall call his name Ishmael, for Yahweh has listened to your suffering.

³ Then he said, "I am the God of your father. Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you a great nation there.

⁷ And Yahweh said, "Surely I have seen the misery of my people who are in Egypt, and I have heard their cry of distress because of their oppressors, for I know their sufferings.

¹³ And Moses said to the people, "You must not be afraid. Stand still and see the salvation of Yahweh, which he will accomplish for you today, because the Egyptians whom you see today you will see never again.

²³ If you indeed afflict him, yes, if he cries out at all to me, I will certainly hear his cry of distress.

²⁷ because it is his only garment; it is his cloak for his skin. In what will he sleep? _⌊And_⌋* when he cries out to me, I will hear, because I am gracious.

²³ And they called to the descendants* of Dan, who turned around to face them, and they said to Micah, "What is the matter with you that you assembled together?"

⁵ _⌊Just then_⌋,* Saul was coming from the field behind the cattle. Saul said, "What is the matter with the people, that they are weeping?" So they recounted to him the words of the men of Jabesh.

⁴ Then Jehoahaz entreated Yahweh, and Yahweh listened to him, for he saw the oppression of Israel, because the king of Aram oppressed them.

²³ But Yahweh had mercy on them and showed compassion to them and turned to them because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He was not willing to destroy them nor cast them from his presence up to now.

¹⁵ And call me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will glorify me."

² O you who hear prayer, to you all flesh will come.

¹⁵ He will call upon me and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue and honor him.

⁴ They wandered in the wilderness, in a desert. They could find no way* to a city to inhabit. ⁵ Hungry and thirsty, their soul grew faint within them. ⁶ Then they cried out to Yahweh in their trouble. He delivered them from their distresses

¹ The oracle of the valley of vision:
_⌊What business do you have going_⌋* up, all of you, to the roofs,

¹⁰ You must not fear, for I am with you; you must not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, indeed I will help you, indeed I will take hold of you with the right hand of my salvation.

¹³ For I, Yahweh your God, am grasping your right hand; _⌊it is I who say_⌋* to you, "You must not fear; I myself, I will help you. ¹⁴ You must not fear, O worm of Jacob; people of Israel, I myself, I will help you," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, "and your redeemer is the holy one of Israel.

¹ But now thus says Yahweh,
he who created you, Jacob, and he who formed you, Israel: "You must not fear, for I have redeemed you. I have called you by your name; _⌊you are mine_⌋.* ² When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they shall not flow over you. When you walk through fire, you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not scorch* you.

³² And Jesus summoned his disciples and* said, "I have compassion on the crowd, because they have remained with me three days already and do not have anything to eat, and I do not want to send them away hungry lest they give out on the way."

³⁶ But Jesus, ignoring* _⌊what was said_⌋,* told the ruler of the synagogue, "Do not be afraid—only believe!"

¹³ And I will also make the son of the slave woman into a nation, for he is your offspring."

³¹ Then Yahweh exposed the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of Yahweh standing in the road with his sword drawn in his hand, and he bowed down and worshiped to his face.

¹⁷ Then Elisha prayed and said, "O Yahweh, please open his eyes that he may see," and Yahweh opened the eyes of the servant, and he saw, and look, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. ¹⁸ They came down to him, and Elisha prayed to Yahweh and said, "Please strike this people with blindness," so he struck them with blindness as _⌊Elisha had spoken_⌋.* ¹⁹ Then Elisha said to them, "This is not the way and this is not the city. Come after me, and I will bring you to the man whom you seek." Then he brought them to Samaria. ²⁰ It happened at the moment they came to Samaria, Elisha said, "O Yahweh, open the eyes of these that they may see," so Yahweh opened their eyes, and they saw, and look, the middle of Samaria!

⁵ Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be opened. ⁶ Then the lame shall leap like the deer, and the tongue of the dumb shall sing for joy, for waters shall break forth in the wilderness and streams in the desert.

¹⁶ but their eyes were prevented from recognizing him. ¹⁷ And he said to them, "What are these matters that you are discussing with one another as you* are walking along?" And they stood still, looking sad. ¹⁸ And one of them, _⌊named_⌋* Cleopas, answered and* said to him, "Are you the only one living near Jerusalem and not knowing the things that have happened in it in these days?" ¹⁹ And he said to them, "What things?" So they said to him, "The things concerning Jesus the Nazarene, a man who was a prophet, powerful in deed and word before God and all the people, ²⁰ and how our chief priests and rulers handed him over to a sentence of death, and crucified him. ²¹ But we were hoping that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. But in addition to all these things, this is the third day _⌊since_⌋* these things took place. ²² But also some women from among us astonished us, who were at the tomb early in the morning, ²³ and when they* did not find his body, they came back saying they had seen even a vision of angels, who said that he was alive! ²⁴ And some of those with us went out to the tomb and found it* like this, just as the women had also said, but him they did not see." ²⁵ And he said to them, "O foolish and slow in heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! ²⁶ Was it not necessary that the Christ suffer these things and enter into his glory?" ²⁷ And beginning from Moses and from all the prophets, he interpreted to them the things concerning himself in all the scriptures. ²⁸ And they drew near to the village where they were going, and he acted as though he was going farther. ²⁹ And they urged him strongly, saying, "Stay with us, because it is getting toward evening, and by this time the day is far spent." And he went in to stay with them. ³⁰ And it happened that when he reclined at the table with them, he took the bread and* gave thanks, and after* breaking it,* he gave it* to them. ³¹ And their eyes were opened, and they recognized him, and he became invisible to them.

⁹ He was a mighty hunter before Yahweh. Therefore it was said, "Like Nimrod a mighty hunter before Yahweh."

¹² And he shall be a wild donkey of a man, his hand will be against everyone, and the hand of everyone will be against him, and he will live _⌊in hostility with all his brothers_⌋."*

²⁷ And the boys grew up. And Esau was a skilled* hunter, a man of the field, but Jacob was a peaceful man, living in tents.

³ So now, take your weapons, your quiver and your bow, and go out to the field and hunt food for me.

¹⁵ Now behold, I am with you, and I will keep you wherever you go. And I will bring you to this land, for I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised to you."

² And Yahweh was with Joseph, and he became a successful man. And he was in the house of his master, the Egyptian. ³ And his master observed that Yahweh was with him, and everything that was in his hand to do Yahweh made successful.

²¹ And Yahweh was with Joseph, and showed loyal love to him, and gave him favor in the eyes of the chief of the prison.

²³ _⌊The archers_⌋* fiercely attacked him. They shot arrows at him and were hostile to him. ²⁴ But his bow remained in a steady position; _⌊his arms_⌋* were made agile by the hands of the Mighty One of Jacob. From there is the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel.

¹² The angel of Yahweh appeared to him and said to him, "Yahweh is with you, _⌊you mighty warrior_⌋."*

²⁴ The woman bore a son, and she called him Samson; the boy grew big, and Yahweh blessed him. ²⁵ And the Spirit of Yahweh began to stir him in the camp of Dan, between Zorah and Eshtaol.

⁸⁰ And the child kept growing and becoming strong in spirit, and was in the wilderness until the day of his public appearance to Israel.

⁴⁰ And the child was growing and becoming strong, filled with wisdom, and the favor of God was upon him.

³ that I may make you swear by Yahweh, the God of heaven and the God of earth, that you will not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites in whose midst I am dwelling, ⁴ but that you will go to my land and to my family, and take a wife for my son, for Isaac."

³⁴ And when Esau was forty years old he took as wife Judith, daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Basemath, daughter of Elon the Hittite. ³⁵ And _⌊they made life bitter_⌋* for Isaac and Rebekah.

⁴⁶ Then Rebekah said to Isaac, "I loathe my life because of the Hittite women.* If Jacob takes a wife from Hittite women* like these, from the _⌊native women_⌋,* _⌊what am I living for_⌋?"*

¹² And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* set out for their journey* from the desert of Sinai, and the cloud dwelled in the desert of Paran.

¹⁶ And afterward the people set out from Hazeroth, and they encamped in the desert of Paran.

³ So Moses sent them from the desert of Paran on the command of Yahweh; all of the men were _⌊leaders_⌋* of the _⌊Israelites_⌋.*

²⁶ And they came* to Moses and Aaron and to the entire community of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* in the desert of Paran at Kadesh; they brought back word to them and to all the community, and they showed them the fruit of the land.

² He went up and told his father and mother, and he said, "I saw a woman in Timnah from the daughters of the Philistines; so then, take her for me as a wife."

¹ Now Samuel died, and all Israel assembled and mourned for him. They buried him at his house at Ramah. Then David got up and went down to the wilderness of Paran.

³⁸ So then, the one who marries* his own virgin does well, and the one who does not marry her will do better.

² And Abraham said about Sarah his wife, "She is my sister." And Abimelech king of Gerar sent and took Sarah.

¹⁷ And Abraham prayed to God, and God healed Abimelech and his wife and his female servants so that they could bear children again.

²⁶ Then Abimelech went to him from Gerar with Ahuzzath his friend and Phicol his army commander.

²⁸ And they said, "We see clearly that Yahweh has been with you, so we thought* let there be an oath between us—between us and you—and let us _⌊make_⌋* a covenant with you

²⁷ But Laban said to him, "Please, if I have found favor in your eyes, I have learned by divination that Yahweh has blessed me because of you."

⁷ Then Yahweh said to Joshua, "This day I will begin exalting you _⌊in the sight_⌋* of all Israel, that they may know that I was with Moses, and I will be with you.

¹ And Solomon the son of David strengthened himself concerning his kingdom, and Yahweh his God was with him and made him exceedingly great.

¹⁰ _⌊Make a plan_⌋,* but it will be frustrated! Speak a word, but it will not stand, for God is with us!

¹⁴ Thus says Yahweh: "The acquisition of Egypt and the merchandise of Cush and the Sabeans, tall men, shall pass over to you; they shall be yours, and they shall walk behind you. They shall pass over in chains, and they shall bow down to you; they will pray to you: 'Surely God is with you, and there is no other. Besides him there is no God.'"

²³ Thus says Yahweh of hosts: 'In those days ten men from _⌊all the nations of every language_⌋* will take hold of the hem of a Judean man,* saying, "Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you!" '"

²³ "Behold, the virgin _⌊will become pregnant_⌋* and will give birth to a son, and they will call his name Emmanuel,"*
which is translated, "God with us."*

³¹ What then shall we say about these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

²⁵ the secret things of his heart become evident, and so, falling on his face, he will worship God, proclaiming, "God is truly among you!"

⁵ Your lifestyle must be free from the love of money, being content with what you have. For he himself has said, "I will never desert you, and I will never abandon you."*

⁹ Behold, I am causing those of the synagogue of Satan, the ones who call themselves Jews and are not, but are lying—behold, I will make them _⌊come_⌋* and kneel down before your feet and acknowledge that I have loved you.

²² And Abram said to the king of Sodom, "I have raised my hand to Yahweh, God Most High, Maker of heaven and earth, ²³ _⌊that neither a thread nor_⌋* a thong of a sandal would I take from all that belongs to you, that you might not say, 'I made Abram rich.'

¹⁴ And Abimelech took sheep and cattle and male slaves and female slaves, and he gave them to Abraham. And he returned Sarah his wife to him.

³ that I may make you swear by Yahweh, the God of heaven and the God of earth, that you will not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites in whose midst I am dwelling,

⁴⁴ So now, come, let us _⌊make_⌋* a covenant, you and I, and let it be a witness between me and you."

⁵³ May the God of Abraham and the God of Nahor, the God of their father* judge between us." Then Jacob swore by the Fear of his father Isaac.

¹³ "You shall fear Yahweh your God, and you shall serve him, and by his name you shall swear.

¹² So then please swear to me by Yahweh, because _⌊I have shown loyalty to you_⌋,* and _⌊you will also show loyalty_⌋* _⌊to my family_⌋.* You must give me a sign of good faith,*

¹³ _⌊So may Yahweh punish Jonathan and more_⌋* if _⌊my father decides to do you harm_⌋* and if _⌊I fail to disclose it to you_⌋* and send word to you that you can go safely. And may Yahweh be with you, as he has been with my father.

¹⁷ And Jonathan again made David swear an oath, because he loved him; for with the love of his soul he loved him.

⁴² Jonathan said to David, "Go in peace, because we have sworn, the two of us, an oath in the name of Yahweh, saying, "Yahweh will be between me and you, and between my offspring and your offspring forever."* Then he got up and left, and Jonathan went into the city.

²¹ So then, swear to me by Yahweh that you will not cut off my _⌊descendants_⌋* after me and that you will not wipe out my name from my father's house." ²² So David swore this on oath to Saul, and Saul went to his house, but David and his men went up to the stronghold.

¹⁵ So David asked him, "Will you take me down to this band of raiders?" He said, "Swear to me by God that you will not kill me and that you will not deliver me into my master's hand! Then I will take you down to this band."

² and you swear, '_⌊As Yahweh lives_⌋,'* in truth, in justice, and in righteousness, then nations will be blessed by him, and in him they will boast."

²³ But I call upon God as witness against my life, that in order to* spare you, I did not come again to Corinth.

¹⁶ For people swear by what is greater than themselves, and the oath for confirmation is the end of all dispute for them.

¹³ Then* one who escaped came and told Abram the Hebrew. And he was living at the oaks of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol and brother of Aner. _⌊They were allies with Abram_⌋.*

¹⁸ If it is possible on your part, be at peace with all people.

⁷ And there was a quarrel between the herdsmen of the livestock of Abram and the herdsmen of the livestock of Lot. Now at that time the Canaanites and the Perizzites were living in the land.

¹⁵ And the Philistines stopped up all the wells that the servants of his father had dug in the days of Abraham his father. They filled them with earth. ¹⁶ And Abimelech said to Isaac, "Go away from us, for you have become much too powerful for us." ¹⁷ So Isaac departed from there and camped in the valley of Gerar, and settled there. ¹⁸ And Isaac dug again the wells of water which they had dug in the days of his father Abraham, which the Philistines had stopped up after the death of Abraham. And he gave* to them _⌊the same names_⌋* which his father had given* them. ¹⁹ And when the servants of Isaac dug in the valley, they found a well of fresh water there. ²⁰ Then the herdsmen of Gerar quarreled with the herdsmen of Isaac, saying, "The water is ours." And he called the name of the well Esek, because they contended with him. ²¹ And they dug another well, and they quarreled over it also. And he called its name Sitnah. ²² Then he moved from there and dug another well, and they did not quarrel over it. And he called its name Rehoboth, and said, "Now Yahweh has made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land."

⁸ And they said, "We are not able, until all the flocks are gathered. Then the stone is rolled away from the mouth of the well, and we water the sheep."

¹⁵ And Pharaoh heard this matter, and he sought to kill Moses, and Moses fled from Pharaoh, and he lived in the land of Midian, and he lived at _⌊a certain well_⌋.* ¹⁶ Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters, and they came and drew water and filled the troughs to water their father's flock.* ¹⁷ And the shepherds came and drove them away, but Moses stood up and came to their rescue and watered their flock.

¹⁵ And she said to him, "Give me _⌊a gift_⌋;* you have given me the land of the Negev,* and give me also a spring of water." And Caleb gave to her the upper and lower spring.*

¹⁰ A rebuke strikes him who understands deeper than one hundred blows to a fool.

⁹ Argue your argument with your neighbor himself, the secret of another do not disclose,

⁵ Better a rebuke that is open than a love that is hidden.

¹⁵ "Now if your brother sins against you, go correct him between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother.

²⁰ But Gehazi the servant of Elisha, the man of God, thought, "Look, my master has refrained from taking what this Aramean Naaman brought from his hand. _⌊As Yahweh lives_⌋,* I will certainly run after him, and I will accept something from him." ²¹ So Gehazi pursued after Naaman. When Naaman saw someone running after him, he jumped off his chariot to meet him and asked him, "Is it peace?" ²² He said, "Peace. My master has sent me saying, 'Look, _⌊just now_⌋* two servants from the hill country of Ephraim came to me, from the sons of the prophets. Please give them a talent of silver and two sets of clothing.'" ²³ Then Naaman said, "Be prepared to accept two talents." So he urged him and tied up two talents of silver in two bags, with two sets of clothing and gave it to two of his servants and they carried it before him. ²⁴ When he came to the citadel, he took them from their hand and put them in the house, then sent away the men so that they went.

²⁸ And they said, "We see clearly that Yahweh has been with you, so we thought* let there be an oath between us—between us and you—and let us _⌊make_⌋* a covenant with you ²⁹ that you may not do us harm just as we have not touched you, but have only done good to you and sent you away in peace. ³ Then Jonathan made a covenant with David, because he loved him as his own soul.

⁵² This pile of stones is a witness, and the pillar is a witness, that I will not pass beyond this pile of stones to you, and that you will not pass beyond this pile of stones and this pillar to me intending harm.

²⁷ instead, it is a witness between us and you, and between our generations after us for performing the serving of Yahweh in his presence with our burnt offerings, sacrifices, and fellowship offerings; so that your children may not say in the future to our children, "You have no portion in Yahweh." ' ²⁸ And we thought, if they say to us and to our children in the future, we can say, 'Look at this replica of the altar of Yahweh, which our ancestors* made, not for burnt offerings* or sacrifices;* rather, it is a witness between us and you.'

²⁷ And Joshua said to all the people, "Look, this stone will be a witness against us, for it has heard all the words of Yahweh that he spoke with us. It will be as a witness against you, so that you do not deny your God."

⁸ And he moved on from there to the hill country, east of Bethel. And he pitched his tent at Bethel on the west, and at Ai on the east. And he built an altar there to Yahweh. And he called on the name of Yahweh.

²¹ You shall not plant for yourselves* _⌊an Asherah pole_⌋* beside the altar of Yahweh your God that you make for yourselves.*

²⁸ Have you not known, or have you not heard? Yahweh is the God of eternity, the creator of the ends of the earth! He is not faint, and he does not grow weary! There is no searching his understanding.

¹⁵ For thus says the high and lofty one who resides forever, and whose name is holy:
"I reside in a high and holy place, and with the _⌊contrite_⌋* and humble of spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the _⌊contrite_⌋.*

¹⁰ But Yahweh is the true God, he is the living God, and _⌊an everlasting king_⌋.* Because of his wrath the earth quakes, and the nations cannot endure his anger.

¹⁴ These are those who swear by the guilt of Samaria and say, 'By the life of your gods, O Dan,' and 'By the life of the way of Beersheba,' they will fall and they will not rise again."

²⁰ For from the creation of the world, his invisible attributes, both his eternal power and deity, are discerned clearly, being understood in the things created, so that they are without excuse.

¹⁷ Now to the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, to the only God, be honor and glory _⌊forever and ever_⌋*. Amen.

¹ And Abraham journeyed from there to the land of the Negev, and he settled between Kadesh and Shur. And he dwelled as an alien in Gerar.

¹⁵ For we are strangers before you and sojourners like all our ancestors.* Our days are like the shadow upon earth, and there is no hope of abiding.

¹³ These all died in faith without receiving the promises, but seeing them from a distance and welcoming them, and admitting that they were strangers and temporary residents on the earth.

¹¹ Dear friends, I urge you as foreigners and temporary residents to abstain from fleshly desires which wage war against your* soul,
