You will do likewise for your vineyard and for your olive trees. ¹² " 'Six days you will do your work, but on the seventh day you will stop so that your ox and your donkey will rest and the son of your slave woman and the alien will be refreshed. ¹³ " 'And you will be attentive to all that I have said to you, and you will not _⌊profess_⌋* the name of other gods; it will not be heard in your mouth. ¹⁴ " 'Three times in the year you will hold a festival for me. ¹⁵ You will keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread; for seven days you will eat unleavened bread, as I commanded you at the appointed time, the month of Abib, because in it you came out from Egypt, and _⌊no one will_⌋* appear before me empty-handed. ¹⁶ And you will keep the Feast of Harvest, with the firstfruits of your work, what you sow in the field. And you will keep the Feast of Harvest Gathering when the year goes out, when you gather your work from the field. ¹⁷ Three times in the year all your men will appear before the Lord Yahweh. ¹⁸ " 'You will not sacrifice the blood of my sacrifice together with food with yeast, and you will not leave the fat of my feast overnight until morning. ¹⁹ " 'The best of the firstfruits of your land you will bring to the house of Yahweh your God.
" 'You will not boil a young goat* in its mother's milk. ²⁰ " 'Look, I am about to send an angel before you to guard you on the way and to bring you to the place that I have prepared. ²¹ Be attentive to him and listen to his voice; do not rebel against him, because he will not forgive your transgression, for my name is in him. ²² But if you listen attentively to his voice and do all that I say, I will be an enemy to your enemies and a foe to your foes. ²³ When my angel goes before you and brings you to the Amorites* and the Hittites* and the Perizzites* and the Canaanites* and the Hivites* and the Jebusites,* I will wipe them out. ²⁴ " 'You will not bow to their gods, and you will not serve them, and you will not act according to their actions, because you will utterly demolish them, and you will utterly break their stone pillars. ²⁵ And you will serve Yahweh your God, and he will bless your bread and your water, and I will remove sickness from among you. ²⁶ There will be no one suffering miscarriage or infertile in your land. I will make full the number of your days.* ²⁷ " 'I will release my terror before you, and I will throw into confusion all the people against whom you come, and I will _⌊make all your enemies turn their back to you_⌋.* ²⁸ And I will send the hornet before you, and it will drive out the Hivites,* the Canaanites,* and the Hittites* from before you. ²⁹ I will not drive them out from before you in one year, lest the land become a desolation and _⌊the wild animals_⌋* multiply against you. ³⁰ Little by little I will drive them out from before you until you are fruitful and take possession of the land. ³¹ " 'And I will set your boundary from the _⌊Red Sea_⌋* and up to the sea of the Philistines and from the desert up to the river,* because I will give the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you will drive them out from before you. ³² You will not make a covenant with them and with their gods. ³³ They will not live in your land, lest they cause you to sin against me when you serve their gods, for it will be a snare to you.'"

⁷ You will stay far from a _⌊false charge_⌋,* and do not kill the innocent and the righteous, because I will not declare the wicked righteous.*

¹¹ " 'You* shall not steal, and you* shall not deceive, and you* shall not lie _⌊to one another_⌋;*

¹⁶ You* shall not go about with slander among your* people; _⌊you* shall not endanger your* neighbor's life_⌋;* I am Yahweh.

²⁰ 'And you shall not falsely bear evidence against your neighbor.

¹⁶ If _⌊a malicious witness_⌋* gets up _⌊to accuse_⌋* anyone to testify against him falsely, ¹⁷ then the two men _⌊to whom the legal dispute pertains_⌋* shall stand _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh, _⌊before_⌋* the priests and the judges who are in office in those days. ¹⁸ Then judges shall make a thorough inquiry, and if it turns out* that the witness is a false witness and he testified falsely against his brother, ¹⁹ then you shall do to him as he meant* to do to his brother, and so you shall purge the evil from your midst. ²⁰ _⌊And the rest_⌋* shall hear and shall fear, and _⌊they shall not continue to do such a thing again_⌋* as this evil thing in your midst. ²¹ _⌊You must show no pity_⌋:* life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot."

³ Then the king said, "Where is the son of your lord?" And Ziba said to the king, "He is living in Jerusalem for he said, 'Today the house of Israel shall return the kingdom of my father to me.'"

²⁷ But he slandered against your servant to my lord the king. My lord the king is like the angel of God; _⌊do as you see fit._⌋."*

¹⁰ Seat two men, _⌊scoundrels_⌋,* opposite him. Let them witness against him saying, 'You cursed God and the king.' Then you shall bring him out and stone him so that he dies." ¹¹ The men of his city and the elders and nobles who were living in his city did according to what Jezebel had sent to them, as was written in the letters which she had sent to them. ¹² They called a fast, and they seated Naboth at the head of the people. ¹³ Then the two men, _⌊scoundrels_⌋,* came, sat opposite him, and the _⌊scoundrels_⌋* witnessed against Naboth before the people, saying, "Naboth cursed God and the king," so they brought him outside of the city and stoned him with stones, and he died.

³ He does not slander with his tongue. He does not harm his friend, nor _⌊bring up_⌋* a disgrace against his neighbor.

¹² Do not give me over to the desire of my enemies, because false witnesses have arisen against me, and each breathing out violence.*

¹¹ Violent witnesses rise up; they ask me concerning what I do not know.

⁵ One who slanders his neighbor in secret, him I will destroy. One haughty of eyes and _⌊arrogant_⌋* of heart, him I will not endure.

³ What shall be given to you,* and what more shall be done to you, deceitful tongue?

¹⁹ a false witness who breathes lies and sends out discord* between brothers.

¹⁸ He who conceals hatred has lips of deceit, and he who utters slander—he is a fool.

¹⁷ He who will speak truth will reveal righteousness, but the witness of falsehood, deceit.

⁴ He who does evil listens to lips of wickedness, and the liar gives heed to the tongue of mischief.

⁵ A witness of falsehood will not go unpunished, and he who breathes lies will not escape.

⁹ A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who breathes lies will perish.

²⁸ A worthless witness will mock justice, and the mouth of the wicked will devour iniquity.

²⁸ A false witness will perish, but a man who listens will testify with* success.

²⁸ Do not be a witness without cause against your neighbor nor deceive with your lips.

¹⁸ Like a club and sword and a sharp arrow is a man who bears false witness against his neighbor.

²³ The wind of the north produces rain, and a backbiting tongue, angry faces.

¹⁰ For I hear the rumor of many, "Terror is from all around, denounce him,* yes, let us denounce him!" _⌊All my close friends_⌋* are watchers of my stumbling, saying, "perhaps he can be persuaded, and we can prevail over him, and we can take our revenge on him."

¹⁸ He said to him, "Which ones?" And Jesus said, "Do not commit murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony,

⁵⁹ Now the chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false testimony against Jesus in order that they could put him to death. ⁶⁰ And they did not find it,* although* many false witnesses came forward. And finally two came forward ⁶¹ and* said, "This man said, 'I am able to destroy the temple of God and rebuild it* within three days.'"

¹⁴ And if this matter is heard before the governor, we will satisfy him and _⌊keep you out of trouble_⌋."* ¹⁵ So they took the money and* did as they were told, and spread abroad this report among the Jews until this very day.

¹⁴ And those who served in the army were also asking him, saying, "What should we also do?" And he said to them, "Extort from no one, and do not blackmail anyone,* and be content with your pay."

⁸ And Zacchaeus stopped and* said to the Lord, "Behold, half of my possessions, Lord, I am giving to the poor, and if I have extorted anything from anyone, I am paying it* back four times as much!"

¹¹ Then they secretly instigated men who said, "We have heard him speaking blasphemous words against Moses and God!" ¹² And they incited the people and the elders and the scribes, and they came up and* seized him and brought him* to the Sanhedrin.* ¹³ And they put forward false witnesses who said, "This man does not stop speaking words against the holy place* and the law!

⁸ And why not (as we are slandered, and as some affirm that we say), "Let us do evil, in order that good may come of it? Their* condemnation is just!

²⁵ Therefore, putting aside the lie, speak truth each one of you with his neighbor,* because we are members of one another.

³ hardhearted, irreconcilable, slanderous, without self-control, savage, with no interest for what is good,

¹⁶ But do so with courtesy and respect, having a good conscience, so that in the things in which you are slandered, the ones who malign your good conduct in Christ may be put to shame.

¹⁰ And I heard a loud voice in heaven saying,
"Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, because the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, the one who accuses them before our God day and night.

¹² And God saw the earth, and behold, it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted its way upon the earth.

¹ Then* Yahweh said to Noah, "Go—you and all your household—into the ark, for I have seen you are righteous before me in this generation.

⁴ Before they laid down, the men of the city, the men of Sodom, both young and old, all the people _⌊to the last man_⌋,* surrounded the house.

⁷ And he said, "No, my brothers, please do not do such a wrong thing. ⁸ Behold, I have two daughters who have not known* a man. Please, let me bring them out to you; then do to them as it seems good in your eyes. Only to these men do not do this thing, since they came under_⌊ my roof_⌋* for protection." ⁹ But they said, "Step aside!" Then they said, "_⌊This fellow_⌋* came to dwell as a foreigner and he acts as a judge! Now we shall do worse to you than them!" And they pressed very hard against the man, against Lot, and they drew near to break the door.

⁶ " 'You will not pervert the justice of your poor in his legal dispute. ⁷ You will stay far from a _⌊false charge_⌋,* and do not kill the innocent and the righteous, because I will not declare the wicked righteous.*

¹ And the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, and the people gathered opposite Aaron, and they said to him, "Come,* make for us gods who will go before us, because this Moses, the man who brought us up from the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him." ² And Aaron said to them, "Take off the rings of gold that are on the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters, and bring it to me." ³ And all the people took off the rings of gold that were on their ears and brought it to Aaron. ⁴ And he took from their hand, and he shaped it with a tool, and he made it a cast-image bull calf, and they said, "These are your gods, Israel, who brought you up from the land of Egypt." ⁵ And Aaron saw, and he built an altar before it, and Aaron called, and he said, "A feast for Yahweh tomorrow."

¹⁵ " 'You* shall not do injustice in judgment; _⌊you* shall not show partiality to the powerless_⌋;* you* shall not give preference _⌊to the powerful_⌋;* you* shall judge your* fellow citizen with justice.

¹ Then all the community _⌊lifted up their voices_⌋,* and the people wept during that night. ² And all the _⌊Israelites_⌋* grumbled against Moses and Aaron, and all the community said to them, "If only we had died in the land of Egypt or in this desert! ³ Why did Yahweh bring us into this land to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little children will become plunder; would it not be better for us to return to Egypt?" ⁴ _⌊They said to each other_⌋,* "Let us appoint a leader, and we will return to Egypt." ⁵ Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces _⌊before_⌋* the assembly of the community of the _⌊Israelites_⌋.* ⁶ Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh, from the explorers of the land, tore their garments. ⁷ And they said to all the community of the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* "The land that we went through to explore is an _⌊exceptionally good land_⌋.* ⁸ If Yahweh delights in us, then he will bring us into this land, and he will give it to us, a land that is flowing with milk and honey. ⁹ Only do not rebel against Yahweh, and you will not fear the people of the land, because they will be our food. _⌊Their protection_⌋* has been turned from them; Yahweh is with us. You should not fear them." ¹⁰ And all the community said to stone them with stones, but the glory of Yahweh appeared in the tent of assembly among the _⌊Israelites_⌋.*

¹⁷ You must not _⌊be partial_⌋* _⌊in your judgment_⌋; * hear out the small person as also the great person; _⌊do not be intimidated by any person_⌋,* because the judgment is God's; and the case that is too difficult* for you, bring it to me, and I will hear it out.'

¹⁹ You shall not subvert* justice; you shall not _⌊show partiality_⌋;* and you shall not take a bribe, for the bribe makes blind the eyes of the wise and misrepresents the words of the righteous.

¹⁷ You shall not subvert the rights of an alien or an orphan, and you shall not take as pledge the garment of a widow.

¹⁵ But if it is bad in your eyes to serve Yahweh, choose for yourselves today whom you want to serve, whether it is the gods that your ancestors* served beyond the river,* or the gods of the Amorites* in whose land you are living; but as for me and my household, we will serve Yahweh."

⁹ However, Saul and the army spared Agag and the best of the sheep and the cattle and the second best of the young fatlings and _⌊all that was valuable_⌋;* they were not willing to utterly destroy them. But all the possessions that were despised or worthless, they utterly destroyed.

¹⁰ Then he said, "I have been very zealous for Yahweh the God of hosts, for the _⌊Israelites_⌋* have forsaken your covenant. They have demolished your altars, and they have killed your prophets with the sword. I alone am left over, and they seek to take my life.

³⁴ because I dreaded the great multitude, and the contempt of clans terrified me, so that I kept quiet, I did not go out of the doorway?

² May he judge your people with righteousness, and your poor with justice.

¹⁰ My child, if sinners entice you, do not consent. ¹¹ If they say, "Come with us! We shall lie in wait for blood; we shall ambush the innocent without cause.*

¹⁵ My child, do not walk in their way.* Keep your foot from their paths,

¹⁴ In the path of the wicked do not go; do not walk in the way of those who do evil.

¹⁵ And the officials were angry at Jeremiah and they struck him. And they put him in _⌊prison_⌋,* in the house of Jonathan the secretary, for they had converted it to the _⌊prison_⌋*.

²¹ So King Zedekiah commanded, and they handed Jeremiah over in the courtyard of the guard, and they gave to him a round loaf of bread from the street of the bakers _⌊every day_⌋* until the finishing of all the bread from the city. And Jeremiah stayed in the courtyard of the guard.

⁵ And Zedekiah the king said, "Look, he is in your hand, for the king is not able to do a thing against you." ⁶ So they took Jeremiah and threw him into the pit* of Malchiah, the son of the king, which was in the courtyard of the guard. And they let Jeremiah down by ropes. Now in the pit* there was no water,* _⌊but only_⌋* mud, and Jeremiah sank in the mud.

⁹ "My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, in that they have thrown him into the pit,* and he will die _⌊there_⌋* _⌊because of_⌋* starvation, for there is no longer any bread in the city."

⁹ And he said to me, "The guilt of the house of Israel and Judah is _⌊exceedingly_⌋* great, and the land is filled with bloodguilt, and the city is full of injustice. For they say Yahweh abandoned the land, and _⌊Yahweh does not see_⌋.*

⁴ "Is it a time for you yourselves to dwell in your houses that have been paneled while this house* is desolate?"

²⁴ So Pilate, when he* saw that he was accomplishing nothing, but instead an uproar was developing, took water and* washed his* hands before the crowd, saying, "I am innocent of the blood of this man. You see to it!"* ²⁵ And all the people answered and* said, "His blood be on us and on our children!" ²⁶ Then he released Barabbas for them, but after* he had Jesus flogged, he handed him* over so that he could be crucified.

¹⁵ So Pilate, because he* wanted _⌊to satisfy_⌋* the crowd, released for them Barabbas. And after* he had Jesus flogged, he handed him* over so that he could be crucified.

²³ But they were urgent, demanding with loud cries that he be crucified. And their cries prevailed. ²⁴ And Pilate decided that their demand should be granted.

⁵¹ (this man was not consenting to their plan and deed), from Arimathea, _⌊a Judean town_⌋,* who was looking forward to the kingdom of God.

⁵⁰ Nicodemus, the one who came to him previously—who was one of them—said to them, ⁵¹ "Our law does not condemn a man unless it first hears from him and knows what he is doing, does it?"*

²⁷ And when* two years had passed, Felix received as successor Porcius Festus. And because he* wanted to do a favor for the Jews, Felix left Paul behind _⌊as a prisoner_⌋.*

⁹ But Festus, because he* wanted to do a favor for the Jews, answered and* said to Paul, "Are you willing to go up to Jerusalem to be tried before me there concerning these things?"

³² who, although they* know the requirements of God, that those who do such things are worthy of death, not only do they do the same things, but also they approve of those who do them.

¹¹ But when Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he was condemned. ¹² For before certain people came from James, he used to eat with the Gentiles, but when they came, he withdrew and separated himself, because he* was afraid of those who were of the circumcision, ¹³ and the rest of the Jews also joined in this hypocrisy with him, so that even Barnabas was carried away with them in their hypocrisy.

² "How long will you judge unjustly and _⌊show favoritism to the wicked_⌋?* Selah ³ Judge on behalf of the helpless and the orphan; provide justice to the afflicted and the poor.

¹⁷ But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceful, gentle, obedient, full of mercy and good fruits, nonjudgmental, without hypocrisy,

¹ "You shall not watch the ox of your neighbor or his sheep or goat straying and ignore them; certainly you shall return them to your neighbor. ² And if your countryman* is not near you or you do not know _⌊who he is_⌋,* then you shall bring it _⌊to your household_⌋,* and it shall be* with you _⌊until your countryman seeks after it_⌋,* and you shall return it to him. ³ And thus also you shall do regarding* his donkey, and thus you shall do concerning* his garment, and so you shall do with respect to* all of the lost property of your countryman* that is lost from him and you find it; you are not allowed to withhold help. ⁴ "You shall not see the donkey of your neighbor or his ox fallen on the road and you ignore them; certainly you must help them get up along with him.

²⁹ "If I have rejoiced at the ruin of the one who hated me or* have exulted when evil overtook him— ³⁰ no,* I have not allowed my mouth to sin, to ask his life with a curse.

¹⁷ While your enemies are falling, do not rejoice; when he trips himself, may your heart* not be glad ¹⁸ lest Yahweh see and it be evil in his eyes, and turn his anger away from him.

²¹ If your enemy is hungry, feed him bread, and if thirsty, let him drink water.

⁴⁴ But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,

²⁷ "But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, ²⁸ bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.

¹⁷ Pay back no one evil for evil. Take thought for what is good in the sight of all people. ¹⁸ If it is possible on your part, be at peace with all people. ¹⁹ Do not take revenge yourselves, dear friends, but give place to God's wrath, for it is written, "Vengeance is mine, I will repay,"* says the Lord. ²⁰ But "if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by* doing this, you will heap up coals of fire upon his head."* ²¹ Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

¹⁵ See to it that no one pays back evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue good toward* one another and toward all people.

⁴ "You shall not see the donkey of your neighbor or his ox fallen on the road and you ignore them; certainly you must help them get up along with him.

² You will not _⌊follow_⌋* a majority* for evil, and you will not testify concerning a legal dispute to turn aside after a majority* to pervert justice. ³ You will not be partial to a powerless person* in his legal dispute.

¹⁹ 'Cursed be the one who deprives the alien, the orphan, and the widow of justice.' And all the people shall say, 'Amen.'

⁷ So now, let the fear of Yahweh be upon you all. _⌊Be careful what you do_⌋,* for there is neither wickedness nor _⌊showing partiality_⌋* and taking bribes with Yahweh our God."

¹³ "If I have rejected my male or* female slave's case when their complaint was against me,

²¹ if I have raised my hand against an orphan because I saw my supporters at the gate, ²² then let my shoulder blade fall from my shoulder, and let my arm be broken from its socket.

³ Judge on behalf of the helpless and the orphan; provide justice to the afflicted and the poor. ⁴ Rescue the helpless and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked."

⁸ Do not be surprised if you see the poor being oppressed with violence or do not see justice and righteousness in the province. For one official is watched by a higher official, and there are even higher officials over them!

¹ Ah! Those who decree decrees of evil, and writers who have written harm, ² to guide the needy away from legal claims,* and to rob the justice from the poor of my people, to make widows their spoil; and they plunder orphans.

²⁸ They have grown fat, they have grown sleek, also, _⌊their evil deeds have no limit_⌋.* They do not judge with justice, the legal cause of the orphan, or allow it to succeed, and the legal case of the poor, they do not defend.

²⁸ All of them are stubborn rebels, going about talking slander. They are bronze and iron, they are all behaving corruptly.

⁶ you do not oppress the alien, the orphan, and the widow, you do not shed innocent blood in this place, and you do not go after other gods _⌊to your harm_⌋,*

¹¹ Therefore, because you trample on the poor and you take a grain tax from them, you built houses of dressed stone, but you will not live in them. You built vineyards of delightfulness, but you will not drink their wine. ¹² For I know your transgressions are many and your sins are numerous, you foes of the righteous, those who take a bribe, and _⌊those who_⌋* push aside the poor ones in the gate!

¹ And I said, "Listen, O heads of Jacob and leaders of the house of Israel! Is it not for you to know justice? ² Those of you who are haters of good and lovers of evil, who tear their skin from them and their flesh from their bones, ³ and who eat the flesh of my people, and strip their skin from them, and break their bones, and chop them like meat in the pot, and like flesh in the midst of a cooking pot." ⁴ Then they will cry to Yahweh, but he will not answer them. He will hide his face from them at that time, when they have made their deeds evil.

¹ Woe to you, O rebellious and defiled one! The oppressing city! ² She listens to no voice; she does not accept correction. In Yahweh she does not trust; to her God she does not draw near. ³ Her officials in her midst are roaring lions; her judges are evening wolves; they leave nothing until the morning. ⁴ Her prophets are arrogant men of treachery; her priests have defiled that which is holy; they do violence to the law. ⁵ "Then I will approach you for judgment, and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers and against the adulterers, and against those who swear _⌊falsely_⌋,* and against the oppressors of the hired worker with his wages, the widow and the orphan, and _⌊the abusers of_⌋* the alien,* and yet do not fear me," says Yahweh of hosts.

⁵ Listen, my dear brothers! Did not God choose the poor of the world to be rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom that he has promised to those who love him? ⁶ But you have dishonored the poor! Are not the rich exploiting you and they themselves dragging you into the courts?

¹³ "You shall not murder.

¹ " 'You will not _⌊spread_⌋* a false report. Do not lift your hand with the wicked to be a malicious witness.

⁷ keeping loyal love to the thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and he does not leave utterly unpunished, punishing the guilt of fathers on sons and on sons of sons on third and fourth generations."

²⁵ 'Cursed be the one who takes a bribe _⌊to murder an innocent person_⌋.'* And all the people shall say, 'Amen.'

²³ If you return to Shaddai, you will be restored; if you remove wickedness from your tent,

¹⁴ In the path of the wicked do not go; do not walk in the way of those who do evil. ¹⁵ Avoid it; do not transgress it; turn away from it and pass by.

¹⁵ He who justifies the wicked and he who condemns the righteous, the two of them are both abominations of Yahweh.

¹⁵ He who walks in righteousness and speaks uprightness, who rejects the gain of extortion, who _⌊refuses_⌋* a bribe, who stops up his ears* from hearing _⌊bloodshed_⌋* and shuts his eyes from seeing evil.

³ Yahweh is slow to anger but great in power; he will certainly not allow the guilty to go unpunished. _⌊He marches_⌋* in storm wind and in gale; storm clouds are the dust of his feet.

¹⁸ For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all impiety and unrighteousness of people, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,

⁵ But because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart, you are storing up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and of the revelation of the righteous judgment of God, ⁶ who will reward each one according to his works:

²² Abstain from every form of evil.

¹⁷ For Yahweh your God, he is God of the gods and Lord of the lords, the great and mighty God, the awesome one who _⌊is not partial_⌋,* and he does not take bribes.

³ But his sons did not walk in his ways; they turned aside after gain, they took bribes, and they perverted justice.

³ Here I am! Testify against me before Yahweh and before his anointed one! Whose ox have I taken? Or whose donkey have I taken? Or whom have I exploited? Whom have I oppressed? Or from whose hand have I taken a bribe, that I may shut my eyes _⌊regarding_⌋* him?-then I will restore it to you."

¹⁰ in whose hands is an evil plan, and whose right hand is full of bribes.*

²⁷ He who makes trouble for his house is he who is greedy for unjust gain, but he who hates bribes will live.

⁸ The bribe is a stone of magic in the eyes of its owner;* _⌊everywhere_⌋* he will turn, he will prosper.

²³ The wicked will accept a bribe from the lap, in order to pervert the ways of justice.

⁴ Wealth adds many friends, but the poor will be left by his friends.

⁷ Surely oppression makes a fool of the wise, and a bribe corrupts the heart.

¹³ You must not _⌊continue_⌋* to bring offerings* of futility, incense—it is an abomination to me; new moon and Sabbath, the calling of a convocation— I cannot endure iniquity with solemn assembly.

²³ Those who acquit the guilty because of a bribe and remove the justice of the innocent from him.

¹² They take a bribe among* you in order to shed blood; and you take usury, and you make gain from your neighbors by extortion, and so you have forgotten me, _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh.

¹⁸ When their drinking has ended, they surely indulge in sexual orgies. They love lewdness more than their* glory.

¹² For I know your transgressions are many and your sins are numerous, you foes of the righteous, those who take a bribe, and _⌊those who_⌋* push aside the poor ones in the gate!

³ Their hands are upon evil, to do it well; the official and the judge ask for the bribe, and the great man utters the evil desire of his soul; and they weave it together.

²¹ Yet if he survives a day or two days, he will not be avenged, because he is his money.*

²¹ " 'You will not mistreat an alien, and you will not oppress him, because you were aliens in the land of Egypt.

¹⁹ And you shall love the alien, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt.

¹⁴ "You shall not exploit a hired worker, who is needy and poor, from among your fellow men or from among your aliens* who are in your land and in your _⌊towns_⌋.* ¹⁵ On his day you shall give his wage, and the sun shall not go _⌊down_⌋,* because he is poor and _⌊his life depends on it_⌋;* do this so that he does not cry out against you to Yahweh, _⌊and you incur guilt_⌋.* ¹⁶ "Fathers shall not be put to death because of their children, and children shall not be put to death because of their fathers; each one shall be put to death for his own sin. ¹⁷ You shall not subvert the rights of an alien or an orphan, and you shall not take as pledge the garment of a widow. ¹⁸ And you shall remember that you were a slave in Egypt and that Yahweh your God redeemed you from there; therefore I am commanding you to do this commandment.

⁶ They kill widow and stranger, and they murder orphans,

⁷ They have treated father and mother with contempt in you; _⌊they violated_⌋* the alien with* extortion; in the midst of you they mistreated the orphan and widow.

³³ Should you not also have shown mercy to your fellow slave as I also showed mercy to you?'

¹⁷ Therefore he was obligated to be made like his brothers in all respects, in order that he could become a merciful and faithful high priest in the things relating to God, in order to make atonement for the sins of the people. ¹⁸ For in that which he himself suffered when he* was tempted, he is able to help those who are tempted.

³ Six years you* shall sow your field, and six years you shall prune your vineyard, and you shall gather its yield. ⁴ But* in the seventh year it shall be _⌊a Sabbath of complete rest_⌋* for the land—a Sabbath for Yahweh; you* must not sow your field, and you must not prune your vineyard.

² "Speak to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* and say to them, 'When you* come into the land that I am about to give to you,* then* the land shall observe a Sabbath for Yahweh. ³ Six years you* shall sow your field, and six years you shall prune your vineyard, and you shall gather its yield. ⁴ But* in the seventh year it shall be _⌊a Sabbath of complete rest_⌋* for the land—a Sabbath for Yahweh; you* must not sow your field, and you must not prune your vineyard. ⁵ You* must not reap your harvest's aftergrowth, and you must not harvest the grapes of your unpruned vines—it shall be _⌊a year of complete rest_⌋* for the land. ⁶ And a Sabbath of the land shall be for food for you:* for you* and for your slave and for your slave woman and for your hired worker and for your temporary residents* who are dwelling as aliens with you; ⁷ and all its yield shall be for your* domestic animal and for the wild animal, which are in your land to eat.

¹¹ _⌊You* shall have the fiftieth year as a Jubilee_⌋;* you must not reap its aftergrowth, and you must not harvest its unpruned vines. ¹² Because it is a Jubilee, it shall be holy to you. You must eat its* produce from the field.

²⁰ And if you* should say, "What shall we eat in the seventh year, _⌊if_⌋* we do not sow and we do not gather its yield?"

²² And you* will sow in the eighth year, and you shall eat from the old yield;* until the ninth year, until the coming of its yield, you shall eat the old yield.

³⁴ Then the land shall enjoy its Sabbaths all the days of its lying desolate, and you shall be in the land of your enemies; then the land shall rest, and it shall enjoy its Sabbaths. ³⁵ All the days of its lying desolate it shall rest for the time* that it had not rested during your Sabbaths while you were living on it.

⁸ "Remember the day of the Sabbath, to consecrate it. ⁹ Six days you will work, and you will do all your work. ¹⁰ But the seventh day is a Sabbath for Yahweh your God; you will not do any work—you or your son or your daughter, your male slave or your female slave, or your animal, or your alien who is in your gates— ¹¹ because in six days Yahweh made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and on the seventh day he rested. Therefore Yahweh blessed the seventh day and consecrated it.

¹⁵ On six days work can be done, and on the seventh _⌊is a Sabbath of complete rest_⌋,* _⌊a holy day_⌋* for Yahweh; anyone doing work on the Sabbath day will surely be put to death. ¹⁶ The _⌊Israelites_⌋* will pay attention to the Sabbath in order to fulfill the Sabbath* throughout their generations as a lasting covenant.

²¹ Six days you will work, and on the seventh day you will rest; in the time of plowing and in the time of harvest you will rest.

³ You will not kindle a fire in any of your dwellings on the day of the Sabbath."

¹³ Six days you shall work, and you shall do all of your work, ¹⁴ but the seventh day is a Sabbath unto Yahweh your God; you shall not do any work, or your son, or your daughter, or your slave, or your slave woman, or your ox, or your donkey, or any of your domestic animals, or your resident alien who is in your _⌊towns_⌋,* so that your slave and your slave woman may rest as you rest. ¹⁵ And you shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and Yahweh your God brought you out with a strong hand and with an outstretched arm; therefore, Yahweh your God commanded you to keep _⌊the Sabbath_⌋.*

³ 'Why do we fast, and you do not see it? We humiliate our soul, and you do not notice it?' Look! You find delight on the day of your fast, and you oppress all your workers!

¹⁴ But the ruler of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, answered and* said to the crowd, "There are six days on which it is necessary to work. Therefore come and* be healed on them, and not on the day of the Sabbath!"

³⁸ and Nebo, Baal Meon (their names* were changed), and Sibmah, and _⌊they renamed_⌋* the cities that they rebuilt.

⁹ "However, _⌊take care_⌋* for yourself and watch your inner self* closely, so that you do not forget the things that your eyes have seen, so that they do not slip from your mind all the days of your life; and you shall make them known to your children and to _⌊your grandchildren_⌋.*

¹⁵ "So _⌊you must be very careful for yourselves_⌋,* because you did not see* any form on the day Yahweh spoke to you at Horeb from the midst of the fire,

³ And you shall break down their altars, and you shall smash their stone pillars, and their Asherah poles you must burn with fire, and the images of their gods you shall hew down, and you shall blot out their names from that place.

⁵ Only be very careful to observe the commandment and law that Moses Yahweh's servant commanded you, to love Yahweh your God, to walk in all his ways, to keep his commandments, to hold fast to him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul."*

⁷ so as not to go among these remaining nations with you; _⌊do not profess_⌋* the name of their gods, and do not swear by them, serve them, or _⌊bow down to them_⌋.*

¹¹ Take utmost care for the sake of your life to love Yahweh your God,

⁷ and I will establish his kingdom forever if _⌊he firmly performs_⌋* my commandments and my judgments as he has to this day.' ⁸ So now in the sight of all Israel, the assembly of Yahweh, and in the hearing of our God, observe and seek all the commandments of Yahweh your God so that you may take possession of this good land and bestow it as an inheritance to your children after you forever." ⁹ "And you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve him with a whole heart and a willing mind, for Yahweh searches all hearts and understands every plan and all thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you abandon him, he will reject you forever.

⁴ Those who hurry after* another god increase their sorrows. I will not pour out their drink offerings of blood, nor take up their names on my lips.

I said, "I will guard my ways _⌊that I may not sin_⌋* with my tongue. I will keep a muzzle over my mouth as long as the wicked are before me."

¹¹ "_⌊Thus_⌋* you shall say to them,
'Gods who did not make the heavens and the earth will perish from the earth and from under these heavens.

¹⁷ I will remove the names of the Baals from her mouth, and they will no longer be mentioned by their name.

² _⌊And then_⌋,* on that day,' _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh of hosts, 'I will cut off the names of the idols from the land, and they will no longer be remembered; and also the prophets and the spirit of uncleanness I will banish from the land.

¹² For it is shameful even to speak about the things being done by them in secret,

¹⁵ Therefore, consider carefully how you live, not as unwise but as wise,

¹⁶ Fix your attention on yourself and on your teaching. Continue in them, for by* doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.

¹⁵ Take care that no one falls short of the grace of God; that no one growing up like a root of bitterness causes trouble, and by it many become defiled;

¹⁷ Three times in the year all your men will appear before the Lord Yahweh.

²² And _⌊you yourself_⌋* will observe the Feast of Weeks—the firstfruits of the wheat harvest—and the Feast of Harvest Gathering at the turn of the year. ²³ Three times in the year all your males will appear before the Lord, Yahweh, the God of Israel, ²⁴ because I will evict nations before you, and I will enlarge your territory, and no one will covet your land when you go up to appear before Yahweh your God three times in the year.

⁵ In the first month, on the fourteenth of the month at the evening is Yahweh's Passover.

¹⁶ Until _⌊the day after_⌋* the seventh Sabbath you shall count fifty days; then* you shall present a new grain offering for Yahweh.

³⁴ "Speak to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* saying, 'On the fifteenth day of the seventh month, this shall be the Feast of Booths for seven days for Yahweh.

¹⁶ Three times in the year all of your males shall appear _⌊before _⌋* Yahweh your God at the place that he will choose, at the Feast of Unleavened Bread and at the Feast of Weeks and at the Feast of Booths, and they shall not appear _⌊before Yahweh_⌋* empty-handed.

¹⁴ "And this day will become a memorial for you, and you will celebrate it as a religious feast for Yahweh throughout your generations; you will celebrate it as a lasting statute. ¹⁵ You will eat unleavened bread for seven days. Surely on the first day you shall remove yeast from your houses, because anyone who eats food with yeast from the first day until the seventh day—that person will be cut off from Israel. ¹⁶ It will be for you on the first day a holy assembly* and on the seventh day a holy assembly;* no work will be done on them; only what is eaten by every person, it alone will be prepared for you. ¹⁷ "And you will keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread, because on this very day I brought out your divisions from the land of Egypt, and you will keep this day for your generations as a lasting statute. ¹⁸ On the first day, on the fourteenth day of the month, in the evening, you will eat unleavened bread until the evening of the twenty-first day of the month. ¹⁹ For seven days yeast must not be found in your houses, because _⌊anyone eating food with yeast_⌋* will be cut off from the community of Israel—whether an alien or a native of the land. ²⁰ You will eat no food with yeast; in all of your dwellings you will eat unleavened bread." ²¹ And Moses called all the elders of Israel, and he said to them, "Select and take for yourselves sheep for your clans and slaughter the Passover sacrifice. ²² And take a bunch of hyssop and dip it into the blood that is in the basin and apply some of the blood that is in the basin to the lintel and the two doorposts. And you will not go out, anyone from the doorway of his house, until morning. ²³ And Yahweh will go through to strike Egypt, and he will see the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, and Yahweh will pass over the doorway and will not allow the destroyer to come to your houses to strike you. ²⁴ "And you will keep this event as a rule for you and for your children forever.* ²⁵ _⌊And_⌋* when you come into the land that Yahweh will give to you, as he said, you will keep this _⌊religious custom_⌋.* ²⁶ _⌊And_⌋* when your children say to you, 'What is this _⌊religious custom_⌋* for you?'* ²⁷ you will say, 'It is a Passover sacrifice for Yahweh, who passed over the houses of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* in Egypt when he struck Egypt; and he delivered our houses.'" And the people knelt down and they worshiped. ²⁸ And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* went, and they did as Yahweh had commanded Moses and Aaron; so they did.

⁴³ And Yahweh said to Moses and Aaron, "This is the statute of the Passover: No foreigner may eat it. ⁴⁴ But any slave of a man, an acquisition by money, and you have circumcised him, then he may eat it. ⁴⁵ A temporary resident and a hired worker may not eat it. ⁴⁶ It will be eaten in one house; you will not bring part of the meat out from the house to the outside; and you will not break a bone of it. ⁴⁷ All of the community of Israel will prepare it. ⁴⁸ And when an alien dwells with you and he wants to prepare the Passover for Yahweh, every male belonging to him must be circumcised, and then he may come near to prepare it, and he will be as the native of the land, but any uncircumcised man may not eat it. ⁴⁹ One law will be for the native and for the alien who is dwelling in your midst."

⁴ Today you are going out in the month of Abib.

⁶ Seven days you will eat unleavened bread, and on the seventh day will be a feast for Yahweh. ⁷ Unleavened bread will be eaten the seven days; food with yeast will not be seen for you; and yeast will not be seen for you in all your territory.

¹⁸ "You will keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread. Seven days you will eat unleavened bread, which I commanded you, at the appointed time of the month of Abib, for in the month of Abib you came out from Egypt.

²⁰ But the first offspring of a donkey you will redeem with small livestock, and if you will not redeem it, you will break its neck. Every firstborn of your sons you will redeem, and you will not appear before me empty-handed.

⁵ In the first month, on the fourteenth of the month at the evening is Yahweh's Passover. ⁶ And on the fifteenth day of this month is Yahweh's Feast of Unleavened Bread; for seven days you shall eat unleavened bread. ⁷ On the first day there shall be a holy assembly for you; you shall not do _⌊any regular work_⌋.* ⁸ And you shall present an offering for Yahweh made by fire for seven days; on the seventh day there shall be a holy assembly; you shall not do _⌊any regular work_⌋.'"*

¹⁰ "Speak to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* and say to them, 'When you come to the land that I am about to give to you and you reap its harvest, then* you shall bring a sheaf of the firstfruit of your harvest to the priest.

² "Let the _⌊Israelites_⌋* observe the Passover at its appointed time. ³ On the fourteenth day of this month _⌊at twilight_⌋* you will perform it at its appointed time according to all its decrees; and according to all its stipulations you will observe it." ⁴ So Moses spoke to the _⌊Israelites_⌋* to observe the Passover. ⁵ And they observed the Passover on the fourteenth day of the month _⌊at twilight_⌋* in the desert of Sinai. According to all that Yahweh commanded Moses, thus the _⌊Israelites_⌋* did. ⁶ And it happened, men who were unclean _⌊by a dead person_⌋* were not able to perform the Passover on that day. And they came _⌊before_⌋* Moses and Aaron on that day. ⁷ And those men said to him, "Although we are unclean _⌊by a dead person_⌋,* why are we hindered from presenting the offering of Yahweh at its appointed time in the midst of the _⌊Israelites_⌋?"* ⁸ Moses said to them, "Stay. I will hear what Yahweh commands to you." ⁹ And Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, ¹⁰ "Speak to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* saying, 'Each man that is unclean _⌊by a dead person_⌋* or is on a far journey, you or your _⌊descendants_⌋,* he will observe the Passover of Yahweh. ¹¹ On the second month on the fourteenth day _⌊at twilight_⌋* they will observe it; they will eat it with unleavened bread and bitter plants. ¹² They will leave none of it until morning, and they will not break a bone in it; they will observe it according to every decree of the Passover. ¹³ But the man who is clean and not on a journey, and he fails to observe the Passover, that person will be cut off from the people because he did not present the offering of Yahweh on its appointed time. That man will bear his guilt. ¹⁴ If an alien dwells with you he will observe the Passover of Yahweh according to the decree of the Passover and according to its stipulation; thus you will have one decree for you, for the alien and for the native of the land.'"

¹⁶ " 'On the fourteenth day of the first month is the Passover for Yahweh. ¹⁷ On the fifteenth day of this month is a religious feast, unleavened bread must be eaten for seven days. ¹⁸ On the first day there will be a holy convocation; _⌊you will not do any regular work_⌋.* ¹⁹ You will present an offering by fire, a burnt offering for Yahweh: two bulls and one ram and seven male lambs _⌊in their first year_⌋;* they will be for you without defect. ²⁰ For their grain offering, you will offer finely milled flour mixed with oil: three-tenths for the bull and two-tenths for the ram. ²¹ You will offer a tenth for each of the seven male lambs; ²² and a goat for one sin offering to make atonement for you. ²³ You will offer these besides the burnt offering of the morning, which is for the continual burnt offering. ²⁴ Like this you will offer daily, for seven days, the food of the offering made by fire, a fragrance of appeasement for Yahweh; it will be offered in addition to the continual burnt offering and its libation. ²⁵ On the seventh day you will have a holy convocation; _⌊you will not do any regular work_⌋.*

¹ "Observe the month of Abib, and you shall keep the Passover to Yahweh your God, for in the month of Abib Yahweh your God brought you out from Egypt by night. ² And you shall offer the Passover sacrifice to Yahweh your God from among your flock and herd at the place that Yahweh will choose, to let his name dwell there. ³ You shall not eat _⌊with it_⌋* anything leavened; seven days you shall eat _⌊with it_⌋* unleavened bread of affliction, because in haste you went out from the land of Egypt, so that you will remember the day of your going out from the land of Egypt all the days of your life. ⁴ And leaven shall not be seen with* you in any of your territory* for seven days, and none of the meat that you will slaughter on the evening on the first day shall remain overnight until morning. ⁵ You are not allowed to offer the Passover sacrifice in one of your _⌊towns_⌋* that Yahweh your God is giving to you, ⁶ but only at the place that Yahweh your God will choose, to let his name dwell there; you shall offer the Passover sacrifice _⌊in the evening at sunset_⌋,* at the designated time* of your going out from Egypt. ⁷ And you shall cook, and you shall eat it at the place that Yahweh your God will choose; and you may turn in the morning and go to your tents. ⁸ Six days you shall eat unleavened bread, and on the seventh day there shall be an assembly for Yahweh your God; you shall not do work.

¹⁰ And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* camped at Gilgal, and they kept the Passover on the fourteenth day of the month, in the evening, on the plains of Jericho. ¹¹ On the next day after the Passover, on that* very day, they ate from the produce of the land, unleavened cakes and roasted corn.

²¹ Then the king commanded all of the people, saying, "Keep the Passover to Yahweh your God, as has been written on the scroll of this covenant." ²² For they had not kept this Passover from the days of the judges who had judged over Israel _⌊or_⌋* during the days of the kings of Israel and the kings of Judah. ²³ But in the eighteenth year of King Josiah, this Passover was kept for Yahweh in Jerusalem.

⁹ Honor Yahweh from your substance,* and from the firstfruits of all that will come to you, ¹⁰ and your barns shall be full of plenty, and your vats shall burst with new wine.

¹² And on the first day of the feast of Unleavened Bread, when they sacrificed the Passover lamb, his disciples said to him, "Where do you want us to go and* prepare, so that you can eat the Passover?"

⁷ And the day of the feast of Unleavened Bread came, on which it was necessary for the Passover lamb to be sacrificed.

⁷ Clean out the old leaven in order that you may be a new batch of dough, just as you are unleavened. For Christ our Passover has been sacrificed. ⁸ So then, let us celebrate the feast, not with the old leaven or with the leaven of wickedness and sinfulness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

²⁹ " 'You will not delay the fullness of your harvest and the juice from your press; you will give me the firstborn of your sons.

²² And _⌊you yourself_⌋* will observe the Feast of Weeks—the firstfruits of the wheat harvest—and the Feast of Harvest Gathering at the turn of the year.

⁹ Then* Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, ¹⁰ "Speak to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* and say to them, 'When you come to the land that I am about to give to you and you reap its harvest, then* you shall bring a sheaf of the firstfruit of your harvest to the priest. ¹¹ And he shall wave the sheaf _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh for your acceptance; the priest shall wave it _⌊on the day after_⌋* the Sabbath. ¹² And on the day of your waving the sheaf you shall _⌊offer_⌋* a _⌊yearling_⌋* male lamb without defect as a burnt offering to Yahweh. ¹³ And its grain offering shall be two-tenths of an ephah* of finely milled flour mixed with oil, an offering made by fire for Yahweh, an appeasing fragrance; and its libation shall be a fourth of a hin* of wine. ¹⁴ And you shall not eat bread or* roasted grain or* ripe grain until _⌊this very same day_⌋,* until you present your God's offering. This must be _⌊a lasting statute_⌋* for your generations in all your dwellings. ¹⁵ " 'And you shall count for yourselves _⌊from the day after_⌋* the Sabbath, from the day of your bringing the wave offering's sheaf—there shall be seven full weeks. ¹⁶ Until _⌊the day after_⌋* the seventh Sabbath you shall count fifty days; then* you shall present a new grain offering for Yahweh. ¹⁷ You shall bring from your dwellings for a wave offering two loaves of bread _⌊made with_⌋* two-tenths of an ephah* of finely milled flour; they must be baked with leaven—the firstfruits _⌊belonging to_⌋* Yahweh. ¹⁸ And, in addition to the bread, you shall present seven _⌊yearling_⌋* male lambs without defects and one _⌊young bull_⌋* and two rams—they shall be a burnt offering for Yahweh with* their grain offering and their libations, an offering made by fire, an appeasing fragrance for Yahweh. ¹⁹ And you shall _⌊offer_⌋* one he-goat as a sin offering and two _⌊yearling_⌋* male lambs as a sacrifice of fellowship offerings. ²⁰ And the priest shall wave them with the bread of the firstfruits as a wave offering _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh; in addition to the two male lambs, they shall be holy for Yahweh for the priest. ²¹ And _⌊you shall make a proclamation_⌋* on _⌊this very same day_⌋;* it shall be a holy assembly for you; you shall not do _⌊any regular work_⌋;* this is a _⌊lasting statute_⌋* in all your dwellings throughout* your generations.

³⁴ "Speak to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* saying, 'On the fifteenth day of the seventh month, this shall be the Feast of Booths for seven days for Yahweh. ³⁵ On the first day there shall be a holy assembly; you must not do any _⌊regular work_⌋.* ³⁶ For seven days you must present an offering made by fire to Yahweh. On the eighth day it shall be a holy assembly for you, and you shall present an offering made by fire to Yahweh; it is a celebration; you must not do _⌊any regular work_⌋.* ³⁷ " 'These are Yahweh's festivals, which you must proclaim, holy assemblies to present an offering made by fire to Yahweh—burnt offering and grain offering, sacrifice and libations, _⌊each on its proper day_⌋*— ³⁸ _⌊besides_⌋* Yahweh's Sabbaths and _⌊besides_⌋* your gifts and _⌊besides_⌋* your vows and _⌊besides_⌋* all your freewill offerings that you give to Yahweh. ³⁹ " 'Surely on the fifteenth day of the seventh month, at your gathering the land's produce, you shall hold Yahweh's festival for seven days; on the first day there shall be a rest period and on the eighth day a rest period. ⁴⁰ And on the first day you shall take for yourselves the first fruit of majestic trees, branches of palm trees and branches* of a leafy tree and of a brook's poplar trees, and you shall rejoice _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh your God for seven days. ⁴¹ And you must hold it as a festival for Yahweh for seven days in the year; it shall be a _⌊lasting statute_⌋* throughout your generations; in the seventh month you must hold it. ⁴² You must live in the booths for seven days; all the natives in Israel must live in the booths, ⁴³ so that your generations shall know that I made the _⌊Israelites_⌋* live in booths when I brought them from the land of Egypt; I am Yahweh your God.'" ⁴⁴ Thus* Moses announced to the _⌊Israelites_⌋* Yahweh's appointed times.

²⁶ " 'And on the day of firstfruits, when you are presenting a new offering for Yahweh during your Festival of Weeks, you will have a holy convocation; _⌊you will not do any regular work_⌋.* ²⁷ You will present a burnt offering for a fragrance of appeasement for Yahweh: two bulls, one ram, seven male lambs _⌊in their first year_⌋;* ²⁸ and their grain offering will be finely milled flour mixed with oil: three-tenths for each bull, two-tenths for one ram, ²⁹ a tenth for each of the male lambs; ³⁰ and one male goat to make atonement for you. ³¹ In addition to the continual burnt offering and its grain offering, you will offer them without defect with their libation.

¹² " 'Then on the fifteenth day of the seventh month you will have a holy convocation; _⌊you will not do any regular work_⌋,* and you will hold a religious feast for Yahweh for seven days. ¹³ You will present a burnt offering, an offering made by fire as a fragrance of appeasement for Yahweh: thirteen bulls, two rams, fourteen male lambs _⌊in their first year_⌋;* they will be without defect. ¹⁴ And their grain offering will be of finely milled flour mixed with oil: three-tenths for the bull, two-tenths for the one ram, ¹⁵ one-tenth for each of the seven male lambs; ¹⁶ and one male goat for a sin offering, in addition to the continual burnt offering, its grain offering, and its libation. ¹⁷ " 'On the second day: twelve bulls, two rams, fourteen male lambs _⌊in their first year_⌋;* they will be without defect; ¹⁸ and their grain offering and their libations for the bulls, for the rams, and for the male lambs, by their number according to the stipulation; ¹⁹ and one male goat for a sin offering, in addition to the continual burnt offering and its grain offering, and their libations. ²⁰ " 'On the third day: eleven bulls, two rams, fourteen male lambs without defect _⌊in their first year_⌋;* ²¹ and their grain offering and their libations for the bulls, for the rams, and for the male lambs, by their number according to the stipulation; ²² and one male goat for a sin offering, in addition to the continual burnt offering, its grain offering, and its libation. ²³ " 'On the fourth day: ten bulls, two rams, fourteen male lambs without defect _⌊in their first year_⌋;* ²⁴ and their grain offering and their libations for the bulls, for the rams, and for the male lambs by their number according to the stipulation; ²⁵ and one male goat for a sin offering, in addition to the continual burnt offering, its grain offering, and its libation. ²⁶ " 'On the fifth day: nine bulls, two rams, fourteen male lambs without defect _⌊in their first year_⌋;* ²⁷ and their grain offering and their libations for the bulls, for the rams, and for the male lambs by their number according to the stipulation; ²⁸ and one male goat for a sin offering, in addition to the continual burnt offering, its grain offering, and its libation. ²⁹ " 'On the sixth day: eight bulls, two rams, fourteen male lambs without defect _⌊in their first year_⌋;* and their grain offering and their libations for the bulls, for the rams, and for the male lambs by their number according to the stipulation; ³⁰ and their grain offering and their libations for the bulls, for the rams, and for the male lambs by their number according to the stipulation; ³¹ and one male goat for a sin offering, in addition to the continual burnt offering, its grain offering, and its libation. ³² " 'On the seventh day: seven bulls, two rams, fourteen male lambs without defect _⌊in their first year_⌋;* ³³ and their grain offering and their libations for the bulls, for the rams, and for the male lambs by their number according to the stipulation; ³⁴ and one male goat for a sin offering, in addition to the continual burnt offering, its grain offering, and its libation. ³⁵ " 'On the eighth day you will have an assembly; _⌊you will not do any regular work_⌋.* ³⁶ You will present a burnt offering, an offering made by fire as a fragrance of appeasement for Yahweh: one bull, one ram, seven male lambs without defect _⌊in their first year_⌋;* ³⁷ and their grain offering and their libations for the bulls, for the rams, and for the male lambs by their number according to the stipulation; ³⁸ and one male goat for a sin offering, in addition to the continual burnt offering, its grain offering, and its libation. ³⁹ " 'You will present these to Yahweh at your appointed time, in addition to your vows and your freewill offerings, for your burnt offerings and for you grain offerings and for your libations and for your fellowship offerings.'"

⁹ "You shall count off seven weeks for you; _⌊from the time you begin to harvest the standing grain_⌋* you shall begin to count seven weeks. ¹⁰ And then you shall celebrate the Feast of Weeks for Yahweh your God with the measure of the freewill offering of your hand that you shall give just as Yahweh your God has blessed you. ¹¹ And you shall rejoice before Yahweh your God, you and your son and your daughter and your slave and your slave woman and the Levite that is in your _⌊towns_⌋* and the alien and the orphan and the widow who are in your midst in the place that Yahweh your God will choose to let his name dwell there. ¹² And you shall remember that you were a slave in Egypt, and so _⌊you shall diligently observe_⌋* these rules. ¹³ "You shall celebrate the Feast of Booths for yourselves* seven days _⌊at the gathering in of the produce_⌋* from your threshing floor and from your press; ¹⁴ and you shall rejoice at your feast, you and your son and your daughter and your slave and your slave woman and the Levite and the orphan and the widow that are in your _⌊towns_⌋.* ¹⁵ Seven days you shall celebrate your feast to Yahweh your God at the place Yahweh will choose, for Yahweh your God shall bless you in all of your produce* and in all of the work of your hand, and you shall surely be rejoicing.*

¹⁴ They found written in the law,* which Yahweh had commanded by the hand of Moses, that the _⌊Israelites_⌋* should live in booths during the festival of the seventh month, ¹⁵ and that they should proclaim and give voice in all of their cities in Jerusalem, saying, "Go out to the hill and bring olive tree branches, olive oil wood branches, myrtle shrub branches, palm tree branches, and other leafy tree branches to make booths, as it is written." ¹⁶ So the people went out and brought them and made booths for themselves, each on his roof, in their courtyards, in the courtyards of the house of God, in the public square of the Water Gate, and in the public square of the Gate of Ephraim. ¹⁷ And all of the assembly of those who returned from captivity made booths and lived in the booths because the _⌊Israelites_⌋* had not done it from the days of Jeshua son of Nun until that day. And there was very great joy. ¹⁸ And he read from the scroll of the law* of God day by day from the first day up to the last day. They celebrated the festival for seven days, and on the eighth day there was an assembly according to the rule.

¹⁶ _⌊And then_⌋* every survivor from all those nations coming against Jerusalem will go up year after year* to worship the king, Yahweh of hosts, and celebrate the Feast of Booths.* ¹⁷ _⌊And then_⌋* whoever of the clans of the earth does not go up to Jerusalem to worship the king, Yahweh of hosts, it will not rain on them. ¹⁸ And if the clan of Egypt will not go up and come in, on them will be that plague Yahweh inflicts on the nations that do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Booths. ¹⁹ This will be the punishment of Egypt and the punishment of all the nations that do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Booths.

² Now the feast of the Jews—the feast of Tabernacles—was near.

³⁷ Now on the last day of the feast—the great day—Jesus stood and cried out, saying, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me, and let him drink,

¹ And when the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in the same place.

¹⁴ " 'Three times in the year you will hold a festival for me.

²³ Three times in the year all your males will appear before the Lord, Yahweh, the God of Israel,

⁵ _⌊But only_⌋* to the place that Yahweh your God will choose from all of your tribes to place his name there as his dwelling shall you seek, and there you shall go.

¹¹ _⌊when all Israel comes to appear before_⌋* Yahweh their God at the place that he will choose, you shall read this law before all Israel _⌊in their hearing_⌋.*

⁷ They go from strength to strength, until each appears before God in Zion.*

⁴² And when he was twelve years old, they went up according to the custom of the feast.

⁸ And they will eat the meat on this night; they will eat it fire-roasted and with unleavened bread on _⌊bitter herbs_⌋.*

¹⁰ And you must not leave any of it until morning; anything left from it until morning you must burn in the fire.

¹⁵ You will eat unleavened bread for seven days. Surely on the first day you shall remove yeast from your houses, because anyone who eats food with yeast from the first day until the seventh day—that person will be cut off from Israel.

²⁵ "You will not slaughter the blood of my sacrifice on food with yeast, and the sacrifice of the Feast of the Passover will not stay overnight to the morning.

¹¹ " 'Every grain offering you* bring to Yahweh must not be made of yeasted food, because you must not turn into smoke any yeast or any honey from* an offering made by fire for Yahweh.

¹² If he presents it for thanksgiving, in addition to the thanksgiving sacrifice he shall present ring-shaped unleavened bread mixed with oil and unleavened bread wafers smeared with oil and well-mixed ring-shaped bread cakes of finely milled flour mixed with oil.

¹⁵ And the meat of the sacrifice of his thanksgiving fellowship offerings must be eaten on the day of his offering; he must not leave it until morning.

⁴ And leaven shall not be seen with* you in any of your territory* for seven days, and none of the meat that you will slaughter on the evening on the first day shall remain overnight until morning.

²⁶ The beginning of the firstfruits of your land you will bring to the house of Yahweh your God. You will not boil a young goat* in its mother's milk."

¹⁰ "Speak to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* and say to them, 'When you come to the land that I am about to give to you and you reap its harvest, then* you shall bring a sheaf of the firstfruit of your harvest to the priest. ¹¹ And he shall wave the sheaf _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh for your acceptance; the priest shall wave it _⌊on the day after_⌋* the Sabbath. ¹² And on the day of your waving the sheaf you shall _⌊offer_⌋* a _⌊yearling_⌋* male lamb without defect as a burnt offering to Yahweh. ¹³ And its grain offering shall be two-tenths of an ephah* of finely milled flour mixed with oil, an offering made by fire for Yahweh, an appeasing fragrance; and its libation shall be a fourth of a hin* of wine. ¹⁴ And you shall not eat bread or* roasted grain or* ripe grain until _⌊this very same day_⌋,* until you present your God's offering. This must be _⌊a lasting statute_⌋* for your generations in all your dwellings. ¹⁵ " 'And you shall count for yourselves _⌊from the day after_⌋* the Sabbath, from the day of your bringing the wave offering's sheaf—there shall be seven full weeks. ¹⁶ Until _⌊the day after_⌋* the seventh Sabbath you shall count fifty days; then* you shall present a new grain offering for Yahweh. ¹⁷ You shall bring from your dwellings for a wave offering two loaves of bread _⌊made with_⌋* two-tenths of an ephah* of finely milled flour; they must be baked with leaven—the firstfruits _⌊belonging to_⌋* Yahweh.

¹² All the finest olive oil and all the finest new wine and their best grain that they have given to Yahweh, I have given them to you. ¹³ The firstfruits of all that is in their land that they present to Yahweh will be for you; whoever is clean in your house may eat it.

⁵ _⌊But only_⌋* to the place that Yahweh your God will choose from all of your tribes to place his name there as his dwelling shall you seek, and there you shall go. ⁶ And you shall bring there your burnt offerings and your sacrifices and your tithes and _⌊your donations_⌋* and your votive gifts and your freewill offerings and the firstling of your herd and your flock. ⁷ And you shall eat there _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh your God, and you shall rejoice _⌊in all your endeavors_⌋,* you and your family in which Yahweh your God has blessed you.

²¹ "You shall not eat any carcass;* you may give it to the alien who is in your _⌊towns_⌋,* and he may eat it, or you may sell it to a foreigner, for you are a holy people for Yahweh your God; you may not boil a kid in its mother's milk.

² then you shall take from the firstfruit of all the fruit of the ground that you harvest from your land that Yahweh your God is giving to you, and you shall put it in a basket, and you shall go to the place that Yahweh your God will choose to make his name to dwell there.

¹⁰ And now, look, I am bringing* the firstfruit of the fruit of the ground that you gave to me, Yahweh,' and you shall place it _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh your God, and you shall bow down _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh your God.

³⁵ We also bring the first fruits of our soil and the first fruits of all the fruit trees, year by year, for the house of Yahweh.

¹⁰ The righteous knows the life* of his animal, but the compassion* of the wicked is cruel.

³ For the statutes of the peoples are vanity, for it is a tree cut down from the forest, the work of the hands of a craftsman with the tool.

²⁰ But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep.

⁴ These are those who have not been defiled with women, for they are virgins. These are the ones who follow the Lamb wherever he goes. These were bought from humanity as first fruits to God and to the Lamb,

¹⁸ On that day Yahweh _⌊made_⌋* a covenant with Abram saying, "To your offspring I will give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates river,

¹⁶ The angel who redeemed me from all evil, may he bless the boys. And through them let my name be perpetuated,* and the name of my fathers, Abraham and Isaac. And let them multiply into many in the midst of the earth.

² And the angel of Yahweh appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush, and he looked, and there was the bush burning with fire, but the bush was not being consumed. ³ And Moses said, "Let me turn aside and see this great sight. Why does the bush not burn up?" ⁴ And Yahweh saw that he turned aside to see, and God called to him from the midst of the bush, and he said, "Moses, Moses." And he said, "Here I am." ⁵ And he said, "You must not come near to here. Take off your sandals from on your feet, because the place on which you are standing, it is holy ground." ⁶ And he said, "I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob." And Moses hid his face because he was afraid of looking at God.

¹⁹ And the angel of God who was going before the camp of Israel set out and went behind them. And the column of cloud set out ahead of them, and it stood still behind them,

¹⁷ You brought them and planted them on the mountain of your inheritance, a place you made for yourself to inhabit, Yahweh, a sanctuary, Lord, that your hands established.

³⁴ And now go, lead the people to where I spoke to you. Look, my angel will go before you, and on the day when I punish I will punish them for their sin."

² And I will send an angel before you, and I will drive out the Canaanites,* the Amorites,* and the Hittites* and the Perizzites,* the Hivites,* and the Jebusites,*

¹⁴ And he said, "My presence will go, and I will give you rest."

¹⁶ Then we cried to Yahweh, and he heard our voice; he sent an angel and brought us out from Egypt. And look, we are in Kadesh, a city on the edge of your territory.

¹³ And it happened, when Joshua was by Jericho, _⌊he looked up_⌋,* and he saw a man standing _⌊opposite him_⌋* with his sword drawn in his hand. And Joshua went to him and said, "Are you with us, or with our adversaries?"

² And Yahweh said to Joshua, "Look, I am giving Jericho into your hand, its king and the soldiers of the army.

¹¹ For he will command his angels concerning you, to watch over you in all your ways.

⁹ In all their distress, _⌊there was no distress_⌋,* and the messenger of his _⌊presence_⌋* saved them, in his love and compassion he himself redeemed them, and he lifted them up, and he supported them all the days of old.

¹ "Look! I am going to send my messenger,* and he will prepare* the way _⌊before me_⌋.* And the Lord whom you are seeking will come suddenly to his temple, and the messenger of the covenant, in whom you are taking pleasure—look!—he is about to come," says Yahweh of hosts.

³⁴ Then the king will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world!

³ And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to myself, so that where I am, you may be also.

⁹ nor put Christ to the test, as some of them tested him, and were destroyed by snakes, ¹⁰ nor grumble, just as some of them grumbled, and were destroyed by the destroyer.

¹⁴ And God said to Moses, "I am that I am." And he said, "So you must say to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* 'I am sent me to you.'"

³ And I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob as God Shaddai,* but by my name Yahweh I was not known to them.

⁵ And Yahweh descended in the cloud, and he stood with him there, and he proclaimed the name of Yahweh. ⁶ And Yahweh passed over before him, and he proclaimed, "Yahweh, Yahweh, God, who is compassionate and gracious, _⌊slow to anger_⌋,* and abounding with* loyal love and faithfulness, ⁷ keeping loyal love to the thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and he does not leave utterly unpunished, punishing the guilt of fathers on sons and on sons of sons on third and fourth generations."

¹¹ And Yahweh said to Moses, "How long until this people will despise me, and how long until they will not believe in me, and in all the signs that I have done in their* midst?

³⁵ I, Yahweh, have spoken; I will surely do this to all this evil community who has banded together against me. In this desert they will come to an end, and there they will die."

¹⁹ _⌊And then_⌋* the man that will not listen to my words that he shall speak in my name, I will hold accountable.

¹⁹ But Joshua said to the people, "You cannot serve Yahweh, for he is a holy and jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions or your sins.

¹² Kiss the Son lest he be angry and you perish on the way, for his anger burns quickly. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.

¹⁹ And blessed be his glorious name forever, and may the whole earth be filled with his glory. Amen and Amen.

⁴⁰ How often they rebelled against him in the wilderness and vexed him in the wasteland!

⁵⁶ But they tested and rebelled against God Most High and did not keep his statutes.

¹⁸ that they may know that you, whose name is Yahweh, you alone, are the Most High over the whole earth.

¹⁴ Therefore the Lord himself will give you* a sign. Look! the virgin* is with child and she is about to give birth to a son, and she shall call his name 'God with us.'

⁶ For a child has been born for us; a son has been given to us. And the dominion will be on his shoulder, and his name is called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

⁸ I am Yahweh; that is my name,
and I do not give my glory to another, nor* my praise to the idols.

⁶ so that they may know from the rising of the sun and from the west that there is none besides me; I am Yahweh and there is none besides me.

¹⁵ For thus says the high and lofty one who resides forever, and whose name is holy:
"I reside in a high and holy place, and with the _⌊contrite_⌋* and humble of spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the _⌊contrite_⌋.*

⁷ "_⌊How_⌋* can I forgive you? Your children have forsaken me, and they have sworn by those who are not gods. But I fed them to the full, and they committed adultery, and flocked to the house of a prostitute.

⁶ In his days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell _⌊in safety_⌋,* and this is his name by which he will be called: 'Yahweh is our righteousness.'

²³ "Behold, the virgin _⌊will become pregnant_⌋* and will give birth to a son, and they will call his name Emmanuel,"*
which is translated, "God with us."*

⁵ While* he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice from the cloud said, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased. Listen to him!"

²³ in order that all people* will honor the Son, just as they honor the Father. The one who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.

³⁰ The Father and I are one."

³⁸ But if I am doing them,* even if you do not believe me, believe the deeds, so that you may know and understand that the Father is in me and I am in the Father."

⁹ Jesus said to him, "Am I with you so long a time and you have not known me, Philip? The one who has seen me has seen the Father! How can you say, 'Show us the Father?' ¹⁰ Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak from myself, but the Father residing in me does his works.

³⁰ and do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

⁹ because in him all the fullness of deity dwells bodily,

¹⁰ for forty years. Therefore I was angry with this generation, and I said, 'They always go astray in their heart, and they do not know my ways.' ¹¹ As I swore in my anger, '_⌊They will never enter_⌋* into my rest.'"*

¹⁶ For who, when they* heard it, were disobedient? Surely it was not all who went out from Egypt through Moses?

²⁶ For if* we keep on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, ²⁷ but a certain fearful expectation of judgment and a fury of fire that is about to consume the adversaries. ²⁸ Anyone who rejected the law of Moses dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. ²⁹ How much worse punishment do you think the person will be considered worthy of who treats with disdain the Son of God and who considers ordinary the blood of the covenant by which he was made holy and who insults the Spirit of grace?

²⁵ Watch out that you do not refuse the one who is speaking! For if those did not escape when they* refused the one who warned them on earth, much less will we escape,* if we* reject the one who warns from heaven,

¹⁶ If anyone should see his brother sinning a sin not leading to death, he should ask, and he will grant life to him, to those who sin not leading to death. (There is a sin leading to death; I do not say that he should ask about that.

⁸ I am the Alpha and the Omega, says the Lord God, the one who is and the one who was and the one who is coming, the All-Powerful.

⁸ "And to the angel of the church in Smyrna write:
"This is what the first and the last says, who was dead and came to life:

²³ And I will kill her children with deadly disease, and all the churches will know that I am the one who searches minds and hearts, and I will give to each one of you according to your deeds.

⁷ "And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write:
"This is what the holy one, the true one, the one who has the key of David, the one who opens and no one can shut, and who shuts and no one can open, says:

³ And I will bless those who bless you, and those who curse you I will curse. And all families of the earth will be blessed in you."

⁹ He crouches, he lies down like a lion, and like a lioness, who will rouse him? They who bless you will be blessed, and they who curse you will be cursed."

⁷ And Yahweh your God will put all these curses on your enemies and _⌊on those who hate you_⌋,* on _⌊those who harassed you_⌋.*

²⁰ And their children will be as of old, and their community will be established _⌊before me_⌋.* And I will punish all their oppressors.

⁸ For thus said Yahweh of hosts, after glory* he sent me against the nations plundering you: Truly, the one touching you is touching the apple* of his eye.

⁴ And falling to the ground, he heard a voice saying to him, "Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?" ⁵ So he said, "Who are you, Lord?" And he said, "I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting!

¹⁹ the land of the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites, ²⁰ the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim, ²¹ the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites."

² And Shechem, the son of Hamor the Hivite, the prince of the land, saw her. And he took her and lay with her and raped her.

¹⁷ And I said, "I will bring you up from the misery of Egypt to the land of the Canaanites* and the Hittites* and the Amorites* and the Perizzites* and the Hivites* and the Jebusites,* to a land flowing with milk and honey." '

²⁰ " 'Look, I am about to send an angel before you to guard you on the way and to bring you to the place that I have prepared.

² And Aaron said to them, "Take off the rings of gold that are on the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters, and bring it to me."

⁸ And I brought you to the land of the Amorites* who lived beyond the Jordan; they fought you, and I gave them into your hand; you took possession of their land, and I destroyed them _⌊before you_⌋.* ⁹ Then Balak son of Zippor, king of Moab, set out and fought against Israel, and he sent and summoned Balaam son of Beor to curse you, ¹⁰ but I was not willing to listen to Balaam, and he richly blessed you. So I rescued you from his hand, ¹¹ and you crossed the Jordan and came to Jericho. And the citizens of Jericho, the Amorites,* the Perizzites,* the Canaanites,* the Hittites,* the Girgashites,* the Hivites,* and the Jebusites,* fought against you, and I gave them into your hand.

¹³ Therefore my people will go into exile without knowledge, and their* nobles* will be men of hunger, and their* multitude is parched with thirst.

⁵ You will not bow down to them, and you will not serve them, because I am Yahweh your God, a jealous God, punishing the guilt of the parents on the children on the third and on the fourth generations* of those hating me,

²⁰ And he took the bull calf that they had made, and he burned it with the fire, and he crushed it until it became fine, and he scattered it on the surface of the water, and he made the _⌊Israelites_⌋* drink.

¹³ Rather, you will tear down their altars, and you will break their stone pillars, and you will cut off their Asherah poles. ¹⁴ For you will not bow in worship to another god, for 'Yahweh Is Jealous' is his name, he is a jealous God,

³ You must not _⌊carry out_⌋* the practices of the land of Egypt, in which you lived, and you must not _⌊carry out_⌋* the practices of the land of Canaan, to which I am bringing you; and you must not follow their statutes.

²⁶ But* you (neither the native nor* the alien who is dwelling in your midst) shall keep my statutes and my regulations, and you shall not _⌊practice_⌋* any of these detestable things ²⁷ (because the people of the land, who were _⌊before you_⌋,* did all these detestable things, so the land became unclean), ²⁸ so that the land will not vomit you out when you make it unclean just as it vomited out the nation that was _⌊before you_⌋.* ²⁹ Indeed, anyone who does any of these detestable things, even* those persons who do so shall be cut off from the midst of their people. ³⁰ Thus* you shall keep my obligation to not do any of the statutes _⌊regarding_⌋* the detestable things that they did _⌊before you_⌋,* so that you will not make yourselves unclean by them; I am Yahweh your God.'"

⁵² you will drive out the inhabitants of the land from your presence, and you will destroy all their idols and all the images of their molten idols, and you will demolish all their high places;

⁵ But this is what you must do to them: you shall break down their altars, and their stone pillars you shall smash, and their Asherah poles you shall hew down, and you shall burn their idols with fire.

²⁵ You shall burn the images of their gods with fire; you shall not covet the silver or gold that is on them, and so you take it for yourself, so that you are not ensnared by it, for it is a detestable thing to Yahweh your God. ²⁶ And you must not bring a detestable thing into your house, or you will become a thing devoted to destruction like it; you must utterly detest it, and you must utterly abhor it, for it is an object devoted to destruction.

³⁰ _⌊take care_⌋* so that you are not ensnared _⌊into imitating them_⌋* after their being destroyed from _⌊before you_⌋,* and so that you not enquire concerning their gods, _⌊saying_⌋,* 'How did these nations serve their gods, and thus _⌊I myself_⌋* want to do also.' ³¹ You must not do so toward Yahweh your God, because of every detestable thing they have done for their gods Yahweh hates, for even their sons and their daughters they would burn in the fire to their gods.

² And he did evil in the eyes of Yahweh according to the detestable things of the nations whom Yahweh drove out before the _⌊Israelites_⌋.*

⁹ And Manasseh seduced Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to do evil more than the nations that Yahweh destroyed before the _⌊Israelites_⌋.*

³ In the eighth year of his reign, while he was still a boy, he began to seek the God of David his ancestor.* And in the twelfth year he began to cleanse Judah and Jerusalem of the high places, the Asherahs, the idols, and the images. ⁴ And he destroyed before him the altars for the Baals, and he cut down the incense stands above them. And the Asherahs, the idols, and the images he smashed. And he ground them to powder and sprinkled the dust over the burial sites of those who sacrificed to them. ⁵ And he burned the bones of the priests on the altars and cleansed Judah and Jerusalem. ⁶ And in the cities of Manasseh, Ephraim, Simeon, and as far as Naphtali, in their ruins all around, ⁷ he broke down the altars and the Asherahs and crushed the idols, grinding them to dust, and he cut down all the incense stands in all the land of Israel. Then he returned to Jerusalem.

³ I will not set before my eyes any wicked thing. I hate the work of those who fall away;* it will not cling to me.

³⁵ but they mingled with the nations and learned their works, ³⁶ and served their idols, which became* a snare to them. ³⁷ They even sacrificed their sons and daughters to the demons, ³⁸ and they poured out innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan, and so the land was defiled with the blood.*

⁴⁷ And you have not only gone in their ways, but* you also did according to their detestable things. _⌊In such a short time_⌋* you behaved more corruptly than they in all of your ways.

²⁶ And he said, "If you carefully listen to the voice of Yahweh your God and you do what is right in his eyes and give heed to his commands and you keep all his rules, then I will not bring about on you any of the diseases* that I brought about on Egypt, because I am Yahweh your healer.

¹³ "You shall fear Yahweh your God, and you shall serve him, and by his name you shall swear.

¹³ And he will love you, and he will bless you, and he will multiply you, and he will bless the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your soil, your grain, your wine, and your olive oil, and newborn calves of your cattle, and the newborn lambs* of your flocks in the land that he swore to your ancestors* to give you.

¹⁵ And Yahweh will turn away from you all the illness and all the harmful diseases of Egypt that you experienced; he will not lay them on you, but he will lay them on all of those who hate you.

¹² And now, Israel, what is Yahweh your God asking* from you, except* to revere Yahweh your God, to go* in all his ways and to love him and to serve Yahweh your God with all your heart and with all your soul,*

²⁰ Yahweh your God, you shall revere him, you shall serve him, and to him you shall cling, and by his name you shall swear.

¹³ "And it will happen that if you listen carefully to my commandments that I am commanding you _⌊today_⌋,* to love Yahweh your God, and to serve him with all of your heart and with all of your soul,* ¹⁴ then 'I will send the rain for your land in its season, early rain and later rain, and you will gather your grain and your wine and your olive oil.

⁴ You shall go after Yahweh your God, and him you shall revere, and his commandment you shall keep, and to his voice you shall listen, and him you shall serve, and to him you shall hold fast.

¹ "And it will happen that if you indeed listen to the voice of Yahweh your God, _⌊to diligently observe_⌋* all his commandments that I am commanding you _⌊today_⌋,* then Yahweh your God will set you above all the nations of the earth. ² And all of these blessings shall come upon you, and _⌊they shall have an effect on you_⌋* if you listen to the voice of Yahweh your God: ³ "You will be blessed in the city, and you will be blessed in the field. ⁴ "Blessed will be the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground and the fruit of your livestock, _⌊the calf of your cattle and the lambs of your flock_⌋.* ⁵ "Blessed will be your basket and your kneading trough. ⁶ "Blessed will you be _⌊when you come in and blessed will you be when you go out_⌋.* ⁷ "Yahweh will cause your enemies _⌊who rise up against you to be defeated before you_⌋;* on one road* they shall come out against you, but on seven roads* they shall flee _⌊before you_⌋.* ⁸ Yahweh will command _⌊concerning you_⌋* the blessing to be in your barns and _⌊in all your endeavors_⌋;* and he will bless you in the land that Yahweh your God is giving to you. ⁹ Yahweh will establish you for _⌊himself_⌋* as a holy people as he has sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of Yahweh your God and you walk in his ways. ¹⁰ And all of the peoples of the earth shall see that _⌊by the name of Yahweh you are called_⌋,* and _⌊they shall fear you_⌋.* ¹¹ And _⌊Yahweh will make you successful and prosperous_⌋,* in the fruit of your womb and on the land that Yahweh swore to your ancestors* to give to you. ¹² Yahweh shall open for you his _⌊rich_⌋* storehouse, even the heavens, to give the rain for* your land in its time and to bless all of the work of your hand, and you will lend to many nations; you will not borrow from them. ¹³ And Yahweh shall make you* as head and not the tail, and you shall be only at the top of the nations, and you shall not be at the bottom, if you listen to the commandments of Yahweh your God that I am commanding you _⌊today_⌋* _⌊and diligently observe them_⌋.* ¹⁴ And you shall not turn aside from _⌊any of_⌋* the words that I am commanding you _⌊today_⌋* to the right or left by going after other gods to serve them.

¹⁴ "So now, revere Yahweh and serve him in sincerity and faithfulness; remove the gods that your ancestors* served beyond the river* and in Egypt, and serve Yahweh. ¹⁵ But if it is bad in your eyes to serve Yahweh, choose for yourselves today whom you want to serve, whether it is the gods that your ancestors* served beyond the river,* or the gods of the Amorites* in whose land you are living; but as for me and my household, we will serve Yahweh."

²¹ And the people said to Joshua, "No, we will serve Yahweh."

²⁴ And the people said to Joshua, "We will serve Yahweh our God, and we will listen to his voice."

³ And Samuel spoke to all the house of Israel, saying, "If with all your heart you are turning to Yahweh, remove the foreign gods and Ashtoreths* from your midst. Commit your hearts to Yahweh and serve him alone. Then he will deliver you from the hand of the Philistines."

²⁰ And Samuel said to the people, "Do not fear! You have done all this evil; only do not turn aside from _⌊following_⌋* Yahweh. But you must serve Yahweh with all your heart.

²⁴ Only fear Yahweh and serve him faithfully with all of your heart. For consider _⌊what great things he has done for you_⌋.*

³ who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases,

¹⁶ That one will live on the heights; the fortresses of rocks will be his refuge. His food will be given; his waters* will endure.

²⁴ And no inhabitant will say, "I am sick"; the people who live in it, their iniquity will be taken away.

² And they shall spread them out before the sun, and before the moon, and before all the host of heaven, which they have loved, and which they have served, and which they have gone after, and which they have inquired about, and to which they have bowed in worship. They shall not be gathered, and they shall not be buried; they will be like dung on the surface of the ground.

¹⁰ Bring the whole tithe to _⌊the storehouse_⌋,* so that there will be food in my house, and test me please in this," says Yahweh of hosts, "if I will not open for you the windows of heaven, and pour forth for you _⌊an overflowing blessing_⌋.*

¹⁰ Then Jesus said to him, "Go away, Satan, for it is written, 'You shall worship the Lord your God and serve only him.'"*

⁸ And Abraham passed away and died in a good old age, old and full of years. And he was gathered to his people.

²⁹ And Isaac passed away and died, and was gathered to his people, old and full of days. And his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.

¹⁴ You shall be blessed more than all of the peoples; among you there shall not be sterility and bareness, even* among domestic animals.*

⁴ "Blessed will be the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground and the fruit of your livestock, _⌊the calf of your cattle and the lambs of your flock_⌋.*

¹ Now David was old and full of days. And he made Solomon his son king over Israel.

²⁶ You shall come in maturity to the grave, as the raising up of a stack of sheaves in its season.

¹⁰ His bull breeds and does not fail; his cow calves and does not miscarry.

¹⁷ Then* Job died old and full of days.

²³ But you, O God, you will bring them down to the pit of corruption. The men of bloodshed and deceit will not live half their days, but I will trust you.

¹⁰ As for the days of our years, within them are seventy years or if by strength eighty years, and their pride* is trouble and disaster, for it passes quickly and we fly away.

³⁸ And he blesses them and they multiply greatly, and he does not let their cattle become few.

¹³ that our granaries may be full, providing produce of all kinds,* that our sheep may produce by the thousands, by the tens of thousands in our open fields,

²⁰ There will no longer be a nursing infant _⌊who lives only a few_⌋* days, or* an old man who does not fill his days, for the boy will die _⌊a hundred years old_⌋,* and the one who _⌊fails to reach_⌋* _⌊a hundred years_⌋* will be _⌊considered_⌋* accursed.

¹⁰ Bring the whole tithe to _⌊the storehouse_⌋,* so that there will be food in my house, and test me please in this," says Yahweh of hosts, "if I will not open for you the windows of heaven, and pour forth for you _⌊an overflowing blessing_⌋.* ¹¹ I will rebuke the devourer* for you; it will not destroy the fruit of your soil; your vine in the field will not be unfruitful," says Yahweh of hosts.

⁵ Then they set out on their journey, and the terror of God was upon the cities that were all around them, so that they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob.

¹⁴ Peoples heard; they trembled; anguish seized the inhabitants of Philistia. ¹⁵ Then the chiefs of Edom were horrified; great distress seized the leaders of Moab; all of the inhabitants of Canaan melted away. ¹⁶ Terror and dread fell on them; at the greatness of your arm they became silent like the stone, until your people passed by, Yahweh, until the people whom you bought passed by.

²⁵ This day I will begin to place _⌊the dread of you_⌋* and the fear of you _⌊before_⌋* the peoples under all the heavens. They will hear _⌊the report about you_⌋,* and so they will shake and tremble _⌊because of you_⌋.' *

²³ But Yahweh your God will _⌊give them to you_⌋,* and he will throw them into great panic _⌊until they are destroyed_⌋.*

²³ then Yahweh will drive out all of these nations _⌊before you_⌋,* and you will dispossess nations larger and more numerous than you.

²⁵ No one can take a stand _⌊against you_⌋;* your dread and your fear Yahweh your God will put on the _⌊surface_⌋* of all the land _⌊where you tread_⌋,* just as he _⌊promised_⌋* to you.

⁹ and said to the men, "I know that Yahweh has given you the land, and that dread of you has fallen on us, and that all the inhabitants of the land melt away in fear because of your presence. ¹⁰ For we have heard how Yahweh dried up the waters of the _⌊Red Sea_⌋* before you when you went out from Egypt, and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites that were beyond the Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom you utterly destroyed. ¹¹ We heard this, and our hearts* melted, and _⌊no courage was left in anyone_⌋* because of your presence. For Yahweh your God is God in the heavens above and on the earth below.

¹⁵ Then there was terror* in the camp, in the open field, and among all the army of the garrison. Even the _⌊raiders_⌋* trembled. The earth shook, and it became _⌊a very great panic_⌋.*

⁶ Now the Lord had caused the camp of the Arameans to hear the sound of chariots, the sound of horses, and the sound of a great army. So they said _⌊to one another_⌋,* "Look, the king of Israel has hired the kings of the Hittites and the kings of Egypt to come against us!"

¹⁴ And they struck all the cities around Gerar, for the fear of Yahweh was upon them. And they plundered all the cities, for there was much plunder in them.

⁴⁰ And you _⌊made my enemies turn their backs_⌋,* then I destroyed those who hated me.

²⁰ And, moreover, Yahweh your God will send the hornets* among them until both the survivors and the fugitives _⌊are destroyed_⌋* _⌊before you_⌋.*

¹¹ and you crossed the Jordan and came to Jericho. And the citizens of Jericho, the Amorites,* the Perizzites,* the Canaanites,* the Hittites,* the Girgashites,* the Hivites,* and the Jebusites,* fought against you, and I gave them into your hand. ¹² I sent before you the hornet and they drove out before you two kings of the Amorites;* but not by your sword or bow.

²² And Yahweh your God will clear away these nations _⌊from before you_⌋* little by little; you will not be able to finish them off quickly, _⌊lest_⌋* the _⌊wild animals_⌋* _⌊multiply_⌋* _⌊against you_⌋.*

⁶³ But the descendants* of Judah were unable to drive out the Jebusites, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so the Jebusites live with the descendants* of Judah in Jerusalem to this day.

¹⁰ But they did not drive out the Canananites* who were dwelling in Gezer, and so the Canaanites* live in the midst of Ephraim to this day, but they became forced laborers.

¹² But the descendants* of Manasseh were not able to take possession of these towns; the Canaanites* were determined to live in this land. ¹³ And it happened, when the _⌊Israelites_⌋* grew strong, they put the Canaanites* to forced labor but never drove them out completely.

¹ These are the nations that Yahweh left, to test Israel by them (that is, to test all those who _⌊had not experienced_⌋* any of the wars of Canaan, ² in order that the generations of Israel would know war, to teach those _⌊who had not experienced it_⌋* before): ³ the five rulers of the Philistines, all the Canaanites,* the Sidonians,* and the Hivites* living on Mount Lebanon, from Mount Baal Hermon up to Lebo-Hamath. ⁴ They were left for testing Israel, to know whether they would keep the commands of Yahweh that he commanded their ancestors* through the hand of Moses.

³⁴ And Yahweh said to Moses, "Do not fear him because I will give him and all his people and all his land into your hand. You will do to him just as you did to Sihon king of the Amorites,* who was living in Heshbon."

³ Your southern edge will be from the desert of Zin toward the side of Edom, and your southern border will be from the end of the Salt Sea* to the east; ⁴ your boundary will turn from the south to the ascent of Akrabbim* and will pass over to Zin, and its limits will be from the south of Kadesh Barnea; it will continue to Hazar Addar and pass over to Azmon. ⁵ The boundary will turn from Azmon to the valley of Egypt, and its limits will be to the sea. ⁶ " 'Your western boundary will be the Great Sea;* this will be your western boundary. ⁷ Your northern border will be from the Great Sea;* you will make a boundary from the Great Sea* to Mount Hor. ⁸ From Mount Hor you will make a boundary to reach Hamath; the limits of the territory will be at Zedad. ⁹ The boundary will go out to Ziphron, and its limits will be at Hazar Enan. This will be your boundary to the north. ¹⁰ " 'You will mark out your eastern boundary from Hazar Enan to Shepham; ¹¹ the boundary will go down from Shepham to Riblah from the east side of Ain, and the boundary will go down and border on the eastern side of the Sea of Kinnereth. ¹² The boundary will go down to the Jordan, and its limits will be at the Salt Sea.* This will be your land according to its boundaries all around.'" ¹³ So Moses commanded the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* saying, "This is the land that you will obtain as an inheritance for yourself by lot, which Yahweh commanded to give to the nine and a half tribes. ¹⁴ For the tribe of the children of the Reubenites,* the children of the Gadites,* and the half-tribe of Manasseh took their inheritance according to the house of their families.* ¹⁵ The two and a half tribes have taken their inheritance from beyond the Jordan across Jericho, east toward the sunrise."

² And Yahweh said to me, 'You should not fear him, for I have given him and all of his army* and his land into your hand. And so you will do to him as you did to Sihon the king of the Amorites,* who was reigning in Heshbon.'

²⁴ Every place on which the sole of your foot treads, it shall be yours; your boundary shall be from the desert and Lebanon from the river, the river Euphrates, on up to the western sea.*

⁴ From the wilderness _⌊and the Lebanon_⌋,* up to the great river, the river Euphrates, all of the land of the Hittites, and up to _⌊the great sea in the west_⌋,* will be your territory.

⁷ Then you will rise up from the ambush and take possession of the city, for Yahweh your God will give it into your hand.

¹⁸ And Yahweh said to Joshua, "Stretch out the sword* that is in your hand to Ai, because I will give it into your hand." And Joshua stretched out the sword that was in his hand to the city.

⁸ And Yahweh said to Joshua, "Do not be afraid of them, for I have given them into your hand; _⌊no one will withstand you_⌋.*

¹⁹ But do not stay there; pursue after your enemies and attack them from the rear. Do not allow them to go into their cities, for Yahweh your God has given them into your hand."

⁴⁴ Yahweh gave them rest on every side, according to all that he had sworn to their ancestors,* and nobody from all their enemies withstood them, for Yahweh had given all their enemies into their hand.

¹⁴ Look! _⌊I am about to die_⌋,* and you know in all your hearts* and souls* that not one thing _⌊failed_⌋* from all the good things that Yahweh your God promised concerning you; everything _⌊has been fulfilled_⌋;* _⌊not one thing failed_⌋.*

⁸ And I brought you to the land of the Amorites* who lived beyond the Jordan; they fought you, and I gave them into your hand; you took possession of their land, and I destroyed them _⌊before you_⌋.*

¹² I sent before you the hornet and they drove out before you two kings of the Amorites;* but not by your sword or bow.

¹⁸ And Yahweh drove out all the people before us, the Amorites* who live* in the land. We will serve Yahweh, for he is our God."

⁴ And Judah went up, and Yahweh gave the Canaanites* and the Perizzites* into their hand, and they defeated ten thousand men at Bezek.

²¹ And Yahweh, the God of Israel, gave Sihon and all his people into the hand of Israel, and they defeated them; and Israel occupied all the land of the Amorites* inhabiting that land.

⁴ So David again inquired of Yahweh, and Yahweh answered him and said, "Get up, go down to Keilah, for I am giving the Philistines into your hand."

²¹ * Now Solomon was ruling over all the kingdoms from the River* to the land of the Philistines, and up to the border of Egypt, who were bringing tribute and were serving Solomon all the days of his life.

²⁴ For he was ruling over all the west of the River* from Tiphsah up to Gaza, over all the kings west of the River;* and he had peace from every side all around.

¹³ Suddenly a certain prophet approached Ahab king of Israel and said, "Thus says Yahweh: 'Have you seen all this great crowd? Behold, I am giving it into your hand today, that you may know that I am Yahweh.'"

⁸ And may he rule from sea up to sea, and from the River* to the edges of the land.

¹² Be careful for yourself, lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land to which you are going, lest it be a snare among you.

¹⁵ lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they prostitute themselves after their gods, and they sacrifice to their gods, and they invite you, and you eat their sacrifice,

¹ When Israel dwelled in Shittim, the people began to prostitute* themselves with the daughters of Moab. ² And they invited the people to the sacrifices of their gods, and the people ate and worshiped their gods.

² and Yahweh your God will give them _⌊over to you_⌋* and you defeat them, you must _⌊utterly destroy them_⌋;* you shall not make a covenant with them, and you shall not show mercy to them.

¹⁶ And you shall devour all of the peoples that Yahweh your God is giving to you; _⌊you shall not pity them_⌋,* and you shall not serve their gods, which will be a snare for you.

¹⁴ So the leaders* took from their provisions, but _⌊they did not ask direction from Yahweh_⌋.* ¹⁵ And Joshua made peace with them, and _⌊he made a covenant with them_⌋* to allow them to live happily, and the leaders of the congregation swore an oath to them. ¹⁶ And it happened that at the end of three days, after they made a covenant with them, they heard that _⌊they were their neighbors_⌋* and living among them. ¹⁷ And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* set out and went to their cities on the third day (their cities were Gibeon, Kephirah, Beeroth, and Kiriath Jearim). ¹⁸ But the _⌊Israelites_⌋* did not attack them, because the leaders of the congregation had sworn to them by Yahweh the God of Israel. And all the congregation murmured _⌊against their leaders_⌋.* ¹⁹ But all the leaders of the congregation said, "We have sworn to them by Yahweh the God of Israel, and so we cannot touch them. ²⁰ This we will do to them: we will let them live so that wrath will not be on us because of the oath we swore to them." ²¹ And the leaders* said to them, "Let them live." So they became woodcutters and water carriers for all the congregation, just as the leaders had said to them. ²² And Joshua summoned them and said, "Why have you deceived us saying, 'We are very far from you' when you are living among us? ²³ Therefore you are cursed; some of you will always be slaves as woodcutters and water carriers for the house of my God."

¹ There was a famine in the days of David for three years, year after year. And David _⌊inquired of Yahweh_⌋,* and Yahweh said, "The bloodguilt is on Saul and on his household, because he killed the Gibeonites." ² So the king called the Gibeonites and spoke to them. Now the Gibeonites were not from the _⌊Israelites_⌋;* they were from the remainder of the Amorites. Now the _⌊Israelites_⌋* had sworn to them,* but Saul tried to wipe them out in his zeal for the _⌊Israelites_⌋* and Judah.

³⁵ but they mingled with the nations and learned their works,

¹⁵ And what agreement does Christ have with Beliar? Or what share does a believer have with an unbeliever?

² and Yahweh your God will give them _⌊over to you_⌋* and you defeat them, you must _⌊utterly destroy them_⌋;* you shall not make a covenant with them, and you shall not show mercy to them. ³ And you shall not intermarry with them; you shall not give your daughter to their son; and you shall not take his daughter for your son.*

³⁰ _⌊take care_⌋* so that you are not ensnared _⌊into imitating them_⌋* after their being destroyed from _⌊before you_⌋,* and so that you not enquire concerning their gods, _⌊saying_⌋,* 'How did these nations serve their gods, and thus _⌊I myself_⌋* want to do also.'

¹³ know for certain that Yahweh your God _⌊will not continue to drive out_⌋* these nations from before you; they will be for you a snare and a trap, a whip on your sides and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from this good land that Yahweh your God has given to you.
