⁵ Then David said, "Solomon my son is a boy and inexperienced, and the house built for Yahweh must be exceedingly great in fame and splendor throughout every land. I will make preparations for him." So David provided abundant materials before he died.

² And he said to them, "I am a hundred and twenty years old _⌊today_⌋;* I am not able to go out and to come in any longer, and Yahweh said to me, 'You may not cross this Jordan.' ³ Yahweh your God is about to cross _⌊before you_⌋;* he will destroy these nations _⌊before you_⌋,* and you shall dispossess them. Joshua will be crossing _⌊before you_⌋,* just as Yahweh _⌊promised_⌋.* ⁴ And Yahweh will do to them just as he did to Sihon and to Og, kings of the Amorites, and to their land, which he destroyed with them. ⁵ And Yahweh _⌊will deliver them to you before you_⌋,* and you shall do to them according to every commandment that I have commanded you. ⁶ Be strong and be courageous; you should not be afraid, and you _⌊should not be in dread from their presence_⌋,* for Yahweh your God is the one going with you; he will not leave you alone and he will not forsake you." ⁷ Then Moses summoned Joshua, and he said to him _⌊in the presence of all Israel_⌋,* "Be strong and be courageous, for you will go with this people into the land that Yahweh swore to their ancestors* to give to them, and you will give it to them as an inheritance.

⁷ So then, O Yahweh, you are my God. You have made your servant king in place of David my father though I am a young boy. I do not know going out or coming in.

⁸ This house shall become a heap of ruins; all those passing by will be appalled by it and hiss, and they will say, 'On what account did Yahweh do this to this land and to this house?'

¹ Then David the king said to all the assembly, "God has chosen Solomon my son alone, a young man and inexperienced, and the work is great, for the citadel is not for humankind, but for Yahweh God.

⁵ And the house that I am building will be great, for our God is greater than all gods.

²¹ And as for this house, which was exalted, all who pass by it will be appalled and will say, 'Why has Yahweh done thus to this land and to this house?'

⁷ and worthless men, _⌊sons of wickedness_⌋,* were gathered about him and became hostile against Rehoboam the son of Solomon, when Rehoboam was a boy and gentle of heart and was not strong enough to stand before them.

¹² But many of the elderly priests, Levites, and heads of the families who had seen the first temple, wept with a loud voice when they saw the foundation of this house, but many _⌊shouted aloud with joy_⌋.*

¹⁰ Whatever your hand finds to do—do it with all your might; for in Sheol—where you are going—no one works, plans, knows, or thinks about anything.

¹¹ _⌊Our holy and beautiful temple_⌋,* where our ancestors* praised you has _⌊been burned_⌋* by fire, and all our precious objects have become ruins.*

²⁰ " 'And the beauty of its* ornament _⌊he made into a prideful thing_⌋* and made with it their detestable things and their vile idols; therefore I will make it into an impure thing for them.

³ 'Who among you is left that saw this house in its former glory? And how do you see it now? Does it seem like nothing _⌊to you_⌋?*

⁹ 'The latter glory of this house will be greater than the former,' says Yahweh of hosts, 'and in this place I will give peace' _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh of hosts.'"

⁵ And while* some were speaking about the temple, that it was adorned with precious stones and votive offerings, he said,

³⁰ It is necessary for that one to increase, but for me to decrease."

³⁷ For in this instance* the saying is true, 'It is one who sows and another who reaps.' ³⁸ I sent you to reap what you did not work for; others have worked, and you have entered into their work."

⁴ It is necessary for us to do the deeds of the one who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work!

¹ Now before the feast of Passover, Jesus, knowing that his hour had come that he would depart from this world to the Father, and* having loved his* own in the world, loved them to the end.

¹³ But I consider it right, for as long as I am in this habitation, to stir you up by a reminder, ¹⁴ because I* know that the removal of my habitation is imminent, as indeed our Lord Jesus Christ made clear to me. ¹⁵ And I will also make every effort that you are able at any time, after my departure, _⌊to recall these things to mind_⌋*.
