¹ And he spoke a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;

⁹ And Jacob said, O God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, the LORD who said unto me, Return unto your country, and to your kindred, and I will deal well with you: ¹⁰ I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies, and of all the truth, which you have showed unto your servant; for with my staff I passed over this Jordan; and now I have become two bands. ¹¹ Deliver me, I pray you, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau: for I fear him, lest he will come and smite me, and the mother with the children. ¹² And you said, I will surely do you good, and make your descendants as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.

²⁴ And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. ²⁵ And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him. ²⁶ And he said, Let me go, for the day breaks. And he said, I will not let you go, except you bless me.

⁸ For what is the hope of the hypocrite, though he has gained, when God takes away his soul? ⁹ Will God hear his cry when trouble comes upon him? ¹⁰ Will he delight himself in the Almighty? will he always call upon God?

¹³ I would have fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.

¹⁶ As for me, I will call upon God; and the LORD shall save me. ¹⁷ Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice.

² O you that hears prayer, unto you shall all flesh come.

³ Be merciful unto me, O Lord: for I cry unto you daily.

¹⁷ He will regard the prayer of the destitute, and not despise their prayer.

⁵ I cried unto you, O LORD: I said, you are my refuge and my portion in the land of the living. ⁶ Attend unto my cry; for I am brought very low: deliver me from my persecutors; for they are stronger than I. ⁷ Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise your name: the righteous shall surround me; for you shall deal bountifully with me.

¹² Then shall you call upon me, and you shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.

⁷ When my soul fainted within me I remembered the LORD: and my prayer came in unto you, into your holy temple.

⁵ And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves; ⁶ For a friend of mine in his journey has come to me, and I have nothing to set before him? ⁷ And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give you. ⁸ I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give to him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needs. ⁹ And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

³⁶ Watch therefore, and pray always, that you may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

¹² Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; constant in prayer;

¹ Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not;

⁹ And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

¹⁸ Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thus with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

⁶ Be anxious for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

² Continue in prayer, and watch in it with thanksgiving;

¹² Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, greets you, always laboring fervently for you in prayers, that you may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.

¹⁷ Pray without ceasing.

³ For consider him that endured such hostility of sinners against himself, lest you be wearied and faint in your minds. ⁴ You have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin. ⁵ And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks unto you as unto children, My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when you are rebuked of him:
