¹ Then Jesus six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was who had been dead, whom he raised from the dead.

¹⁷ And he left them, and went out of the city into Bethany; and he lodged there.

⁶ Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, ⁷ There came unto him a woman having an alabaster flask of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat to eat. ⁸ But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste? ⁹ For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor. ¹⁰ When Jesus knew it, he said unto them, Why trouble you the woman? for she has worked a good work unto me. ¹¹ For you have the poor always with you; but me you have not always.

¹¹ And Jesus entered into Jerusalem, and into the temple: and when he had looked around upon all things, and now the evening was come, he went out unto Bethany with the twelve.

³ And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at table, there came a woman having an alabaster flask of ointment of pure nard very precious; and she broke the flask, and poured it on his head. ⁴ And there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said, Why was this waste of the ointment made? ⁵ For it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the poor. And they murmured against her. ⁶ And Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble you her? she has wrought a good work for me. ⁷ For you have the poor with you always, and whenever you will you may do them good: but me you have not always. ⁸ She has done what she could: she has come beforehand to anoint my body for burying.

⁵⁰ And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.

¹ Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.

⁴⁴ And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with grave clothes: and his face was bound about with a cloth. Jesus said unto them, Loose him, and let him go.

⁵⁵ And the Jews' passover was near at hand: and many went out of the country up to Jerusalem before the passover, to purify themselves.

²⁰ And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast:
