¹ Moreover the LORD answered Job, and said, ² Shall he that contends with the Almighty instruct him? he that reproves God, let him answer it. ³ Then Job answered the LORD, and said, ⁴ Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer you? I will lay my hand upon my mouth. ⁵ Once have I spoken; but I will not answer: yea, twice; but I will proceed no further. ⁶ Then answered the LORD unto Job out of the whirlwind, and said, ⁷ Gird up your loins now like a man: I will demand of you, and declare you unto me. ⁸ Will you also annul my judgment? will you condemn me, that you may be righteous? ⁹ Have you an arm like God? or can you thunder with a voice like him? ¹⁰ Deck yourself now with majesty and splendor; and array yourself with glory and beauty. ¹¹ Put forth the rage of your wrath: and behold every one that is proud, and abase him. ¹² Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place. ¹³ Hide them in the dust together; and bind their faces in secret. ¹⁴ Then will I also confess unto you that your own right hand can save you. ¹⁵ Behold now behemoth, which I made with you; he eats grass as an ox. ¹⁶ Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the muscles of his belly. ¹⁷ He moves his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his thighs are knit together. ¹⁸ His bones are as strong pieces of bronze; his bones are like bars of iron. ¹⁹ He is the first of the ways of God: he that made him can make his sword to approach unto him. ²⁰ Surely the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play. ²¹ He lies under the shady trees, in the hiding of the reeds, and marsh. ²² The shady trees cover him with their shade; the willows of the brook surround him. ²³ Behold, though a river rages, he fears not: he is confident though the Jordan rushes into his mouth. ²⁴ He takes it with his eyes: his nose pierces through snares.

¹ Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,

⁶ Then answered the LORD unto Job out of the whirlwind, and said,

¹¹ Why died I not from the womb? why did I not expire when I came out of the womb? ¹² Why did the knees receive me? or why the breasts that I should nurse?

²⁰ Therefore is light given to him that is in misery, and life unto the bitter in soul;

²³ Why is light given to a man whose way is hid, and whom God has hedged in?

¹² Am I a sea, or a sea monster, that you set a watch over me?

¹⁹ How long will you not look away from me, nor let me alone till I swallow down my spittle? ²⁰ I have sinned; what shall I do unto you, O you preserver of men? why have you set me as a mark against you, so that I am a burden to myself? ²¹ And why do you not pardon my transgression, and take away my iniquity? for now shall I sleep in the dust; and you shall seek me in the morning, but I shall not be.

³ If he will contend with him, he cannot answer him one of a thousand.

¹⁷ For he breaks me with a tempest, and multiplies my wounds without cause. ¹⁸ He will not permit me to take my breath, but fills me with bitterness.

³² For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, and we should come together in trial. ³³ Neither is there any mediator between us, that might lay his hand upon us both. ³⁴ Let him take his rod away from me, and let not his fear terrify me: ³⁵ Then would I speak, and not fear him; but it is not so with me.

³ Is it good unto you that you should oppress, that you should despise the work of your hands, and smile upon the counsel of the wicked? ⁴ Have you eyes of flesh? or see you as man sees? ⁵ Are your days as the days of man? are your years as man’s days, ⁶ That you inquire after my iniquity, and search after my sin? ⁷ You know that I am not wicked; and there is none that can deliver out of your hand.

¹⁴ If I sin, then you mark me, and you will not acquit me from my iniquity. ¹⁵ If I am wicked, woe unto me; and if I am righteous, yet can I not lift up my head. I am full of disgrace; therefore see my affliction; ¹⁶ For it increases. You hunt me as a fierce lion: and again you show yourself awesome against me. ¹⁷ You renew your witnesses against me, and increase your indignation upon me; changes and war are ever with me.

²¹ Withdraw your hand far from me: and let not your dread make me afraid. ²² Then call, and I will answer: or let me speak, and you answer me. ²³ How many are my iniquities and sins? make me know my transgression and my sin. ²⁴ Why hide you your face, and hold me for your enemy? ²⁵ Will you break a leaf driven to and fro? and will you pursue the dry stubble? ²⁶ For you write bitter things against me, and make me possess the iniquities of my youth. ²⁷ You put my feet also in the stocks, and watch closely all my paths; you set a bound to the soles of my feet.

¹⁶ For now you number my steps: do not watch over my sin. ¹⁷ My transgression is sealed up in a bag, and you sew up my iniquity.

¹¹ God has delivered me to the ungodly, and turned me over into the hands of the wicked. ¹² I was at ease, but he has broken me asunder: he has also taken me by my neck, and shaken me to pieces, and set me up for his mark. ¹³ His archers surround me, he slashes my kidneys asunder, and does not spare; he pours out my gall upon the ground. ¹⁴ He breaks me with breach upon breach, he runs upon me like a warrior. ¹⁵ I have sewed sackcloth upon my skin, and laid my strength in the dust. ¹⁶ My face is foul from weeping, and on my eyelids is the shadow of death; ¹⁷ Not for any violence in my hands: also my prayer is pure. ¹⁸ O earth, cover not my blood, and let my cry have no place. ¹⁹ Also now, behold, my witness is in heaven, and my record is on high. ²⁰ My friends scorn me: but my eye pours out tears unto God. ²¹ O that one might plead for a man with God, as a man pleads for his neighbor!

⁶ Know now that God has overthrown me, and has compassed me with his net. ⁷ Behold, I cry out concerning wrong, but I am not heard: I cry aloud, but there is no justice. ⁸ He has fenced up my way that I cannot pass, and he has set darkness in my paths. ⁹ He has stripped me of my glory, and taken the crown from my head. ¹⁰ He has destroyed me on every side, and I am gone: and my hope has he removed like a tree. ¹¹ He has also kindled his wrath against me, and he counts me unto him as one of his enemies.

² As God lives, who has taken away my right; and the Almighty, who has made bitter my soul;

²¹ You have become cruel to me: with your strong hand you oppose yourself against me.

¹³ Why do you strive against him? for he gives not account of any of his matters.

¹⁰ Whatever has been is named already, and it is known that this is man: neither may he contend with him that is mightier than he.

¹⁴ With whom took he counsel, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of justice, and taught him knowledge, and showed to him the way of understanding?

⁹ Woe unto him that strives with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashions it, What do you make? or of your work, He has no hands? ¹⁰ Woe unto him that says unto his father, What do you beget? or to the woman, What have you brought forth? ¹¹ Thus says the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker, Ask me of things to come concerning my sons, and concerning the work of my hands, you command me.

⁸ He is near that justifies me; who will contend with me? let us stand together: who is my adversary? let him come near to me.

² What mean you, that you use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge?

¹¹ And when they had received it, they murmured against the owner of the house,

¹⁹ You will say then unto me, Why does he yet find fault? For who has resisted his will? ²⁰ Nay but, O man, who are you that replies against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why have you made me thus? ²¹ Has not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honor, and another unto dishonor? ²² What if God, willing to show his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction: ²³ And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had before prepared unto glory,

³⁴ For who has known the mind of the Lord? or who has been his counselor? ³⁵ Or who has first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again? ³⁶ For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory forever. Amen.

¹⁶ For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

²² Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?

²⁷ And Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord, who am but dust and ashes:

¹⁰ I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies, and of all the truth, which you have showed unto your servant; for with my staff I passed over this Jordan; and now I have become two bands.

¹⁹ And they said unto him, Hold your peace, lay your hand upon your mouth, and go with us, and be to us a father and a priest: is it better for you to be a priest to the house of one man, or that you be a priest to a tribe and a family in Israel?

¹⁰ And David’s heart condemned him after he had numbered the people. And David said unto the LORD, I have sinned greatly in what I have done: and now, I beseech you, O LORD, take away the iniquity of your servant; for I have done very foolishly.

⁴ But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.

⁶ And said, O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face to you, my God: for our iniquities have risen higher than our head, and our trespass has grown up unto the heavens.

¹⁵ O LORD God of Israel, you are righteous: for we remain yet escaped, as it is this day: behold, we are before you in our trespasses: for we cannot stand before you because of this.

³³ Yet you are just in all that is brought upon us; for you have done right, but we have done wickedly:

³¹ Yet shall you plunge me in the ditch, and my own clothes shall abhor me.

²¹ O that one might plead for a man with God, as a man pleads for his neighbor!

⁵ Look at me, and be astonished, and lay your hand upon your mouth.

⁴ I would order my cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments. ⁵ I would know the words which he would answer me, and understand what he would say unto me. ⁶ Will he plead against me with his great power? No; but he would put strength in me. ⁷ There the righteous might reason with him; so should I be delivered forever from my judge.

⁹ The princes refrained from talking, and laid their hand on their mouth.

³⁷ I would declare unto him the number of my steps; as a prince would I go near unto him.

⁶ Therefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.

⁹ I was dumb, I opened not my mouth; because you did it.

⁴ Against you, you only, have I sinned, and done this evil in your sight: that you might be justified when you speak, and be blameless when you judge. ⁵ Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me.

³² If you have done foolishly in lifting up yourself, or if you have thought evil, lay your hand upon your mouth.

⁵ Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.

⁶ All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

⁶ But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

⁵ We have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from your precepts and from your judgments:

⁷ O Lord, righteousness belongs unto you, but unto us shame of face, as at this day; to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and unto all Israel, that are near, and that are far off, through all the countries where you have driven them, because of their trespass that they have trespassed against you.

¹⁶ The nations shall see and be ashamed at all their might: they shall lay their hand upon their mouth, their ears shall be deaf.

²⁰ But the LORD is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.

¹³ Be silent, all flesh, before the LORD: for he has raised up out of his holy habitation.

⁸ When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.

¹⁸ I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before you, ¹⁹ And am no more worthy to be called your son: make me as one of your hired servants.

¹³ And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.

¹⁵ This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

¹⁰ And the king of Israel sent to the place which the man of God told him and warned him of, and saved himself there, not once nor twice.

¹⁵ For, though I were righteous, yet could I not answer, but I would make supplication to my judge.

¹⁴ For God speaks once, yea twice, yet man perceives it not.

³¹ Surely it is fitting to be said unto God, I have borne chastisement, I will not offend any more: ³² That which I see not you teach me: if I have done iniquity, I will do no more.

¹¹ God has spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongs unto God.

¹⁸ I have surely heard Ephraim bemoaning himself thus; You have chastised me, and I was chastised, as a bullock unaccustomed to the yoke: restore me, and I shall return; for you are the LORD my God. ¹⁹ Surely after I was turned, I repented; and after I was instructed, I struck myself upon the thigh: I was ashamed, yea, even confounded, because I did bear the reproach of my youth.

¹⁹ Now we know that whatsoever things the law says, it says to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.

³ Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him. ⁴ He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that he may judge his people.

¹⁸ For you are not come unto the mount that might be touched, and that burned with fire, nor unto blackness, and darkness, and tempest, ¹⁹ And the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which voice they that heard entreated that the word should not be spoken to them any more: ²⁰ (For they could not endure that which was commanded, And if so much as an animal touch the mountain, it shall be stoned, or thrust through with a spear:

¹⁰ But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. ¹¹ Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in all holy conduct and godliness, ¹² Looking for and hastening unto the coming of the day of God, in which the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

²² Then call, and I will answer: or let me speak, and you answer me.

³ Oh that I knew where I might find him! that I might come even to his seat! ⁴ I would order my cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments.

³ Gird up now your loins like a man; for I will demand of you, and you answer me.

⁴ Hear, I ask you, and I will speak: I will question you, and you declare unto me.

³ Is it good unto you that you should oppress, that you should despise the work of your hands, and smile upon the counsel of the wicked?

² As God lives, who has taken away my right; and the Almighty, who has made bitter my soul; ³ All the while my breath is in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils; ⁴ My lips shall not speak wickedness, nor my tongue utter deceit. ⁵ God forbid that I should justify you: till I die I will not remove my integrity from me. ⁶ My righteousness I hold fast, and will not let it go: my heart shall not reproach me so long as I live.

² Then was kindled the wrath of Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the family of Ram: against Job was his wrath aroused, because he justified himself rather than God.

⁵ For Job has said, I am righteous: and God has taken away my justice. ⁶ Should I lie concerning my right? my wound is incurable though I am without transgression.

² Think you this to be right, that you said, My righteousness is more than God’s? ³ For you said, What advantage will it be unto you? and, What profit shall I have, if I be cleansed from my sin?

⁴ Against you, you only, have I sinned, and done this evil in your sight: that you might be justified when you speak, and be blameless when you judge.

²⁷ For the LORD of hosts has purposed, and who shall annul it? and his hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back?

¹⁸ And your covenant with death shall be annulled, and your agreement with sheol shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then you shall be beaten down by it.

⁴ God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That you might be justified in your sayings, and might overcome when you are judged.

¹⁵ Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man's covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannuls, or adds thereto.

¹⁷ And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before by God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of no effect.

¹⁸ For there is verily an annulment of the previous commandment because of the weakness and uselessness thereof.

⁶ Your right hand, O LORD, has become glorious in power: your right hand, O LORD, has dashed in pieces the enemy.

⁴ He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who has hardened himself against him, and has prospered?

⁶ Will he plead against me with his great power? No; but he would put strength in me.

¹² Behold, in this you are not just: I will answer you, for God is greater than man. ¹³ Why do you strive against him? for he gives not account of any of his matters.

⁴ After it a voice roars: he thunders with the voice of his excellency; and he will not restrain them when his voice is heard. ⁵ God thunders marvelously with his voice; great things does he, which we cannot comprehend.

³ The voice of the LORD is upon the waters: the God of glory thunders: the LORD is upon many waters.

³ My heart was hot within me, while I was meditating the fire burned: then spoke I with my tongue, ⁴ LORD, make me to know my end, and the measure of my days, what it is; that I may know how frail I am. ⁵ Behold, you have made my days as a handbreadth; and my age is as nothing before you: verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity. Selah. ⁶ Surely every man walks in a vain show: surely they are in turmoil in vain: he heaps up riches, and knows not who shall gather them. ⁷ And now, Lord, what do I wait for? my hope is in you. ⁸ Deliver me from all my transgressions: make me not the reproach of the foolish. ⁹ I was dumb, I opened not my mouth; because you did it.

¹⁰ You have broken Rahab in pieces, as one that is slain; you have scattered your enemies with your strong arm.

¹³ You have a mighty arm: strong is your hand, and high is your right hand.

⁹ Woe unto him that strives with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashions it, What do you make? or of your work, He has no hands?

² And you shall make holy garments for Aaron your brother for glory and for beauty.

¹¹ Yours, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is yours; yours is the kingdom, O LORD, and you are exalted as head above all.

¹⁹ Have you given the horse strength? have you clothed his neck with thunder?

⁵ His glory is great in your salvation: honor and majesty have you laid upon him.

³ Gird your sword upon your thigh, O most mighty, with your glory and your majesty. ⁴ And in your majesty ride prosperously because of truth and meekness and righteousness; and your right hand shall teach you awesome things.

² Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God has shined.

¹⁶ Let your work appear unto your servants, and your glory unto their children. ¹⁷ And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish you the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish it.

¹ The LORD reigns, he is clothed with majesty; the LORD is clothed with strength, with which he has girded himself: the world also is established, that it cannot be moved.

¹ Bless the LORD, O my soul. O LORD my God, you are very great; you are clothed with honor and majesty. ² Who covers yourself with light as with a garment: who stretches out the heavens like a curtain:

⁴ For the LORD takes pleasure in his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation.

² In that day shall the branch of the LORD be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the earth shall be excellent and splendid for them that have escaped of Israel.

¹⁷ For he put on righteousness as a breastplate, and a helmet of salvation upon his head; and he put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, and was clad with zeal as a cloak.

¹³ And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

⁵⁴ So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

¹⁶ For we have not followed cunningly devised myths, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. ¹⁷ For he received from God the Father honor and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

²⁴ Now unto him who is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, ²⁵ To the only wise God our Savior, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and forever. Amen.

¹⁶ And indeed for this very cause have I raised you up, to show in you my power; and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth. ¹⁷ And yet exalt you yourself against my people, that you will not let them go?

¹¹ Now I know that the LORD is greater than all gods: for in the thing in which they dealt proudly he was above them.

²² For a fire is kindled in my anger, and shall burn unto the lowest hell, and shall consume the earth with its increase, and set on fire the foundations of the mountains.

²³ When he is about to fill his belly, God shall cast the fury of his wrath upon him, and shall rain it upon him while he is eating.

²² For God shall cast upon him, and not spare: he would scarcely flee out of his hand.

⁴⁹ He cast upon them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, and indignation, and trouble, by sending avenging angels among them. ⁵⁰ He made a way to his anger; he spared not their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence;

⁶ Cast forth lightning, and scatter them: shoot out your arrows, and destroy them.

¹¹ The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day. ¹² For the day of the LORD of hosts shall come upon everyone that is proud and lofty, and upon everyone that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low:

¹⁷ And the loftiness of man shall be bowed down, and the haughtiness of men shall be made low: and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day.

¹² Therefore it shall come to pass, that when the Lord has performed his whole work upon mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the arrogant heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks. ¹³ For he says, By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I am prudent: and I have removed the boundaries of the people, and have robbed their treasures, and I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man: ¹⁴ And my hand has found as a nest the riches of the people: and as one gathers eggs that are left, have I gathered all the earth; and there was none that moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or peeped. ¹⁵ Shall the ax boast itself against him that hews with it? or shall the saw magnify itself against him that uses it? as if the rod should shake itself against them that lift it up, or as if the staff should lift up itself, as if it were not wood. ¹⁶ Therefore shall the Lord, the Lord of hosts, send among his fat ones leanness; and under his glory he shall kindle a burning like the burning of a fire. ¹⁷ And the light of Israel shall be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame: and it shall burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day; ¹⁸ And shall consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitful field, both soul and body: and they shall be as when a sick man wastes away. ¹⁹ And the rest of the trees of his forest shall be few, that a child may write them down.

²⁵ Therefore he has poured upon him the fury of his anger, and the strength of battle: and it has set him on fire all around, yet he knew not; and it burned him, yet he laid it not to heart.

² Son of man, say unto the prince of Tyre, Thus says the Lord GOD; Because your heart is lifted up, and you have said, I am a God, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas; yet you are a man, and not God, though you set your heart as the heart of God:

³⁷ Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, all whose works are truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.

²⁰ But when his heart was lifted up, and his mind hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him: ²¹ And he was driven from the sons of men; and his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild donkeys: they fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven; till he knew that the most high God ruled in the kingdom of men, and that he appoints over it whomever he will. ²² And you his son, O Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, though you knew all this; ²³ But have lifted up yourself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before you, and you, and your lords, your wives, and your concubines, have drunk wine in them; and you have praised the gods of silver, and gold, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand your breath is, and whose are all your ways, have you not glorified:

³ The pride of your heart has deceived you, you that dwell in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that says in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground? ⁴ Though you exalt yourself as the eagle, and though you set your nest among the stars, from there will I bring you down, says the LORD.

⁶ Who can stand before his indignation? and who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? his fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown down by him.

¹ For, behold, the day comes, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that comes shall burn them up, says the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.

¹⁴ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for everyone that exalts himself shall be abased; and he that humbles himself shall be exalted.

²² And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man. ²³ And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and died.

⁸ But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, ⁹ Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that does evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Greek;

⁶ But he gives more grace. Therefore he says, God resists the proud, but gives grace unto the humble.

⁵ Likewise, you younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resists the proud, and gives grace to the humble. ⁶ Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

⁷ The LORD makes poor, and makes rich: he brings low, and lifts up.

²⁰ Desire not the night, when people are cut off in their place.

¹² Through God we shall do valiantly: for he it is that shall tread down our enemies.

²⁵ The LORD will destroy the house of the proud: but he will establish the boundary of the widow.

³ If the clouds are full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth: and if the tree falls toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falls, there it shall be.

⁶ I will send him against a godless nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.

¹¹ And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogance of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the ruthless.

³ I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the people there was none with me: for I will tread them in my anger, and trample them in my fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and I will stain all my raiment.

⁵ And they shall be as mighty men, who tread down their enemies in the mire of the streets in the battle: and they shall fight, because the LORD is with them, and the riders on horses shall be put to shame.

³ And you shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, says the LORD of hosts.

²⁵ That he may take part in this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place.

²⁰ And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.

⁸ Then the king returned out of the palace garden into the place of the banquet of wine; and Haman was fallen upon the bed on which Esther was. Then said the king, Will he force the queen also before me in the house? As the word went out of the king's mouth, they covered Haman's face.

¹³ O that you would hide me in the grave, that you would conceal me, until your wrath is past, that you would appoint me a set time, and remember me!

¹³ But the hypocrites in heart heap up wrath: they cry not when he binds them.

¹⁴ Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling.

¹⁰ Enter into the rock, and hide in the dust, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty.

⁴⁴ And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with grave clothes: and his face was bound about with a cloth. Jesus said unto them, Loose him, and let him go.

³ For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but your right hand, and your arm, and the light of your countenance, because you had favor unto them.

⁶ For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword save me.

²⁹ He gives power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increases strength.

⁶ For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.

⁴ But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love with which he loved us, ⁵ Even when we were dead in sins, has made us alive together with Christ, (by grace you are saved;) ⁶ And has raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: ⁷ That in the ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. ⁸ For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: ⁹ Not of works, lest any man should boast.

²⁴ And God said, Let the earth bring forth living creatures after their kinds, cattle, and creeping things, and beasts of the earth after their kinds: and it was so ²⁵ And God made the beasts of the earth after their kinds, and cattle after their kinds, and every thing that creeps upon the earth after its kind: and God saw that it was good. ²⁶ And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.

⁸ The range of the mountains is his pasture, and he searches after every green thing.

²⁰ Surely the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play.

¹⁴ He causes the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth;

²³ The folds of his flesh are joined together: they are firm on him; they cannot be moved.

⁴ Because I knew that you are obstinate, and your neck is an iron sinew, and your brow bronze;

¹³ By his spirit he has adorned the heavens; his hand has pierced the fleeing serpent.

³³ Upon earth there is not his like, which is made without fear.

¹² If he turns not, he will whet his sword; he has bent his bow, and made it ready.

²⁴ O LORD, how manifold are your works! in wisdom have you made them all: the earth is full of your riches.

¹ In that day the LORD with his hard and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the fleeing serpent, even leviathan that twisted serpent; and he shall slay the monster that is in the sea.

¹⁵ Behold now behemoth, which I made with you; he eats grass as an ox.

²⁶ There go the ships: there is that leviathan, which you have made to play therein.

⁸ Who covers the heaven with clouds, who prepares rain for the earth, who makes grass to grow upon the mountains. ⁹ He gives to the beast its food, and to the young ravens that cry.

⁶ And they shall turn the rivers foul; and the brooks of Egypt shall be emptied and dried up: the reeds and rushes shall wither. ⁷ The paper reeds by the river, by the mouth of the river, and everything sown by the river, shall wither, be driven away, and be no more.

⁷ And the parched ground shall become a pool, and the thirsty land springs of water: in the habitation of jackals, where each lay, shall be grass with reeds and rushes.

⁴⁰ And you shall take on the first day the fruit of choice trees, branches of palm trees, and the boughs of leafy trees, and willows of the brook; and you shall rejoice before the LORD your God seven days.

⁷ Therefore the abundance they have gotten, and that which they have laid up, shall they carry away to the brook of the willows.

⁵ He took also of the seed of the land, and planted it in a fruitful field; he placed it by great waters, and set it as a willow tree.

¹⁰ And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as you came unto Zoar.

¹⁵ And as they that bore the ark were come unto the Jordan, and the feet of the priests that bore the ark dipped in the edge of the water, (for Jordan overflows all its banks all the time of harvest,)

⁸ I would hasten my escape from the windy storm and tempest.

¹⁶ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation: he that believes shall not be in haste.

²⁵ I have dug, and drunk water; and with the soles of my feet have I dried up all the streams of Egypt.

¹ Can you draw out leviathan with a hook? or his tongue with a cord which you let down? ² Can you put a rope in his nose? or pierce his jaw through with a hook?
