¹ Know you the time when the wild goats of the rock bring forth? or can you mark when the hinds do calve? ² Can you number the months that they fulfill? or know you the time when they bring forth? ³ They bow themselves, they bring forth their young ones, they cast out their offspring. ⁴ Their young ones become strong, they grow up in the open; they go forth, and return not unto them. ⁵ Who has let the wild donkey go free? or who has loosed the bonds of the wild donkey? ⁶ Whose house I have made the wilderness, and the barren land his dwellings. ⁷ He scorns the multitude of the city, neither regards he the shouts of the driver. ⁸ The range of the mountains is his pasture, and he searches after every green thing. ⁹ Will the wild ox be willing to serve you, or abide by your crib? ¹⁰ Can you bind the wild ox with ropes in the furrow? or will he plow the valleys behind you? ¹¹ Will you trust him, because his strength is great? or will you leave your labor to him? ¹² Will you believe him, that he will bring home your grain, and gather it into your barn? ¹³ Gave you the proud wings unto the peacocks? or wings and feathers unto the ostrich? ¹⁴ Which leaves her eggs in the earth, and warms them in dust, ¹⁵ And forgets that the foot may crush them, or that a wild beast may break them. ¹⁶ She is hardened against her young ones, as though they were not hers: her labor is in vain without concern; ¹⁷ Because God has deprived her of wisdom, neither has he imparted to her understanding. ¹⁸ When she lifts up herself high, she scorns the horse and his rider. ¹⁹ Have you given the horse strength? have you clothed his neck with thunder? ²⁰ Can you make him afraid like a grasshopper? the majesty of his snorting is terrible. ²¹ He paws in the valley, and rejoices in his strength: he goes out to meet the armed men. ²² He mocks at fear, and is not frightened; neither turns he back from the sword. ²³ The quiver rattles against him, the glittering spear and the javelin. ²⁴ He swallows the ground with fierceness and rage: neither does he halt at the sound of the trumpet. ²⁵ He says among the trumpets, Aha; and he smells the battle afar off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting. ²⁶ Does the hawk fly by your wisdom, and stretch her wings toward the south? ²⁷ Does the eagle mount up at your command, and make her nest on high? ²⁸ She dwells and abides on the rock, upon the crag of the rock, and the stronghold. ²⁹ From there she seeks the prey, and her eyes behold afar off. ³⁰ Her young ones also suck up blood: and where the slain are, there is she.

² Then Saul took three thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and went to seek David and his men upon the rocks of the wild goats.

⁹ The voice of the LORD makes the hinds to calve, and strips bare the forests: and in his temple does every one speak of his glory.

¹⁸ The high hills are a refuge for the wild goats; and the rocks for the badgers.

⁵ Yea, the hind also calved in the field, and forsook it, because there was no grass.

²⁴ A wild donkey used to the wilderness, that sniffs in the wind in her desire; in her mating time who can turn her away? all they that seek her will not weary themselves; in her month they shall find her.

¹² And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man's hand against him; and he shall dwell over against all his brethren.

¹⁴ Issachar is a strong donkey crouching down between two burdens:

⁵ Does the wild donkey bray when it has grass? or the ox lows over its fodder?

²¹ And he was driven from the sons of men; and his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild donkeys: they fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven; till he knew that the most high God ruled in the kingdom of men, and that he appoints over it whomever he will.

⁹ For they have gone up to Assyria, a wild donkey alone by itself: Ephraim has hired lovers.

²³ And that the whole land thereof is brimstone, and salt, and burning, that it is not sown, nor does it bear, nor any grass grows therein, like the overthrow of Sodom, and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboim, which the LORD overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath:

³⁴ A fruitful land into barrenness, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein.

⁶ For he shall be like the shrub in the desert, and shall not see when good comes; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land which is not inhabited.

¹¹ But its swamps and its marshes shall not be healed; they shall be given over to salt.

¹³ And the taskmasters pushed them, saying, Fulfill your works, your daily tasks, as when there was straw. ¹⁴ And the officers of the children of Israel, that Pharaoh's taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, and asked, Why have you not fulfilled your task in making brick both yesterday and today, as before? ¹⁵ Then the officers of the children of Israel came and cried unto Pharaoh, saying, Why dealt you thus with your servants? ¹⁶ There is no straw given unto your servants, and they say to us, Make brick: and, behold, your servants are beaten; but the fault is in your own people.

¹⁸ Go therefore now, and work; for there shall no straw be given you, yet shall you deliver the number of bricks.

¹⁸ There the prisoners rest together; they hear not the voice of the oppressor.

¹⁸ When she lifts up herself high, she scorns the horse and his rider.

⁴ For thus has the LORD spoken unto me, Like the lion and the young lion roaring over his prey, when a multitude of shepherds is called forth against him, he will not be afraid of their voice, nor disturbed by the noise of them: so shall the LORD of hosts come down to fight for mount Zion, and for its hill.

³ Why have we fasted, they say, and you see not? why have we afflicted our soul, and you take no knowledge? Behold, in the day of your fast you find pleasure, and exploit all your laborers.

²⁹ And God said, Behold, I have given you every plant bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, which has seed in its fruit; to you it shall be for food. ³⁰ And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to everything that creeps upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green plant for food: and it was so.

¹⁵ Behold now behemoth, which I made with you; he eats grass as an ox.

²⁰ Surely the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play. ²¹ He lies under the shady trees, in the hiding of the reeds, and marsh. ²² The shady trees cover him with their shade; the willows of the brook surround him.

²⁷ These all wait upon you; that you may give them their food in due season. ²⁸ That which you give them they gather: you open your hand, they are filled with good.

¹⁵ The eyes of all wait upon you; and you give them their food in due season. ¹⁶ You open your hand, and satisfy the desire of every living thing.

²² God brought them out of Egypt; he has as it were the strength of a wild ox.

¹⁷ His glory is like the firstling of his bullock, and his horns are like the horns of a wild ox: with them he shall push the people together to the ends of the earth: and they are the ten thousands of Ephraim, and they are the thousands of Manasseh.

²¹ Save me from the lion's mouth: for you have heard me from the horns of the wild oxen.

¹⁰ But my horn shall you exalt like the horn of a wild ox: I shall be anointed with fresh oil.

³ The ox knows his owner, and the donkey his master's crib: but Israel does not know, my people do not consider.

¹⁴ And there came a messenger unto Job, and said, The oxen were plowing, and the donkeys feeding beside them:

⁵ Who has let the wild donkey go free? or who has loosed the bonds of the wild donkey?

⁷ He scorns the multitude of the city, neither regards he the shouts of the driver.

⁵ Will you play with him as with a bird? or will you leash him for your maidens?

³ The plowers plowed upon my back: they made long their furrows.

¹⁰ It is in my desire that I should chastise them; and the people shall be gathered against them, when they shall be bound for their two transgressions. ¹¹ And Ephraim is as a heifer that is trained, and loves to tread out the grain; but I harnessed her fair neck: I will make Ephraim to pull a plow; Judah shall plow, and Jacob must break his clods.

¹³ O you inhabitant of Lachish, harness the chariot to the swift steeds: it is the beginning of sin to the daughter of Zion: for the transgressions of Israel were found in you.

²⁶ And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.

²⁸ And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moves upon the earth.

² And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moves upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered.

²⁶ And they loaded their donkeys with the grain, and departed there.

⁷ Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.

¹⁶ There is no king saved by the multitude of a host: a mighty man is not delivered by much strength. ¹⁷ A horse is a vain thing for safety: neither shall he deliver any by his great strength.

¹⁴ That our oxen may be strong to labor; that there be no breaking in, nor going out; that there be no outcry in our streets.

¹⁰ He delights not in the strength of the horse: he takes not pleasure in the legs of a man.

⁴ Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: but much increase is by the strength of the ox.

⁶ The burden concerning the beasts of the south: into the land of trouble and anguish, from where come the lioness and the lion, the viper and fiery flying serpent, they will carry their riches upon the backs of young donkeys, and their treasures upon the humps of camels, to a people that shall not profit them.

¹⁶ But you said, No; for we will flee upon horses; therefore shall you flee: and, We will ride upon the swift; therefore shall they that pursue you be swift.

¹ Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and rely on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the LORD! ² Yet he also is wise, and will bring evil, and will not call back his words: but will arise against the house of the evildoers, and against the help of them that work iniquity. ³ Now the Egyptians are men, and not God; and their horses flesh, and not spirit. When the LORD shall stretch out his hand, both he that helps shall fall, and he that is helped shall fall down, and they all shall fail together.

¹ Bel bows down, Nebo stoops, their idols were upon the beasts, and upon the cattle: your carriages were heavy laden; they are a burden to the weary beast.

¹⁵ In those days saw I in Judah some treading wine presses on the sabbath, and bringing in sheaves, and loading donkeys; and also wine, grapes, and figs, and all manner of burdens, which they brought into Jerusalem on the sabbath day: and I testified against them about the day in which they sold provisions.

¹⁶ Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honor.

¹³ Behold, I am weighted down under you, as a cart is weighted down that is full of sheaves.

¹⁹ Is the seed yet in the barn? yea, as yet the vine, and the fig tree, and the pomegranate, and the olive tree, have not brought forth: but from this day will I bless you.

² And saying, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

³⁰ Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather you together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.

¹⁹ And the stork, the heron after its kind, and the hoopoe, and the bat.

²² For the king had at sea a navy of Tarshish with the navy of Hiram: once in three years came the navy of Tarshish, bringing gold, and silver, ivory, and apes, and peacocks.

²⁹ I am a brother to jackals, and a companion to ostriches.

⁷ Yea, the stork in the heavens knows her appointed times; and the turtledove and the crane and the swallow observe the time of their coming; but my people know not the law of the LORD.

⁹ Then I lifted up my eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came out two women, and the wind was in their wings; for they had wings like the wings of a stork: and they lifted up the basket between earth and heaven.

⁵⁶ The gentle and refined woman among you, who would not venture to set the sole of her foot upon the ground because of her gentleness and refinement, her eye shall show no compassion toward the husband of her bosom, and toward her son, and toward her daughter, ⁵⁷ And toward her afterbirth that comes out from between her feet, and toward her children which she shall bear: for she shall eat them for lack of all things secretly in the siege and distress, with which your enemy shall distress you in your gates.

²⁶ Then spoke the woman whose the living child was unto the king, for her heart yearned for her son, and she said, O my lord, give her the living child, and by no means slay it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor yours, but divide it. ²⁷ Then the king answered and said, Give her the living child, and by no means slay it: she is the mother of it.

²⁸ And the king said unto her, What ails you? And she answered, This woman said unto me, Give your son, that we may eat him today, and we will eat my son tomorrow. ²⁹ So we boiled my son, and did eat him: and I said unto her on the next day, Give your son, that we may eat him: and she has hid her son.

¹⁵ The labor of the foolish wearies every one of them, because he knows not how to go to the city.

²⁰ Behold, O LORD, and consider to whom you have done this. Shall the women eat their offspring, the children of their tender care? shall the priest and the prophet be slain in the sanctuary of the Lord?

³ Even the jackals draw out the breast, they nurse their young ones: the daughter of my people has become cruel, like the ostriches in the wilderness.

¹³ Behold, is it not of the LORD of hosts that the people shall labor to feed the fire, and the people shall weary themselves in vain?

³¹ Without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

³⁰ But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass by him: for the LORD your God hardened his spirit, and made his heart obstinate, that he might deliver him into your hand, as it is this day.

³¹ However, regarding the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who were sent unto him to inquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart.

⁴ For you have hidden their heart from understanding: therefore shall you not exalt them.

¹¹ Who teaches us more than the beasts of the earth, and makes us wiser than the fowls of heaven?

¹¹ Surely the princes of Zoan are fools, the counsel of the wise counselors of Pharaoh give foolish counsel: how do you say unto Pharaoh, I am the son of the wise, the son of ancient kings? ¹² Where are they? where are your wise men? and let them tell you now, and let them know what the LORD of hosts has purposed upon Egypt. ¹³ The princes of Zoan have become fools, the princes of Memphis are deceived; they have also seduced Egypt, even they that are the cornerstones of its tribes. ¹⁴ The LORD has mixed a perverse spirit in its midst: and they have caused Egypt to err in her every work, as a drunken man staggers in his vomit.

¹⁷ For the iniquity of his covetousness was I angry, and struck him: I hid myself, and was angry, and he went on backsliding in the way of his heart.

¹⁷ Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

²¹ This is the word that the LORD has spoken concerning him; The virgin the daughter of Zion has despised you, and laughed you to scorn; the daughter of Jerusalem has shaken her head at you.

²² At destruction and famine you shall laugh: neither shall you be afraid of the beasts of the earth.

¹ Then sang Moses and the children of Israel this song unto the LORD, and spoke, saying, I will sing unto the LORD, for he has triumphed gloriously: the horse and his rider has he thrown into the sea.

¹ The LORD reigns, he is clothed with majesty; the LORD is clothed with strength, with which he has girded himself: the world also is established, that it cannot be moved.

¹ Bless the LORD, O my soul. O LORD my God, you are very great; you are clothed with honor and majesty.

¹⁷ And James the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James; and he surnamed them Boanerges, which is, The sons of thunder:

⁵ Like the noise of chariots on the tops of mountains shall they leap, like the noise of a flame of fire that devours the stubble, as a strong people set in battle array.

²² Then were the horses’ hoofs thundering by means of the gallopings, the gallopings of their mighty ones.

⁴ And there went a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span. ⁵ And he had a helmet of bronze upon his head, and he was armed with a coat of mail; and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of bronze. ⁶ And he had armor of bronze upon his legs, and a javelin of bronze upon his shoulders. ⁷ And the staff of his spear was like a weaver's beam; and his spear's head weighed six hundred shekels of iron: and one bearing a shield went before him. ⁸ And he stood and cried unto the armies of Israel, and said unto them, Why are you come out to set your battle in array? am not I a Philistine, and you servants to Saul? choose you a man for you, and let him come down to me. ⁹ If he is able to fight with me, and to kill me, then will we be your servants: but if I prevail against him, and kill him, then shall you be our servants, and serve us. ¹⁰ And the Philistine said, I defy the armies of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together.

⁴² And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he despised him: for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and of a fair countenance.

⁵ Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoices as a strong man to run a race.

³¹ The horse is prepared for the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD.

⁶ I hearkened and heard, but they spoke not aright: no man repented himself of his wickedness, saying, What have I done? everyone turned to his own course, as the horse rushes into the battle.

²³ Thus says the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches:

¹⁶ She is hardened against her young ones, as though they were not hers: her labor is in vain without concern;

³³ Upon earth there is not his like, which is made without fear.

²⁶ The sword of him that reaches him cannot avail: neither the spear, the dart, nor the javelin. ²⁷ He regards iron as straw, and bronze as rotten wood. ²⁸ The arrow cannot make him flee: clingstones with him are turned into stubble. ²⁹ Darts are counted as straw: he laughs at the threat of a javelin.

¹⁶ If I had called, and he had answered me; yet would I not believe that he had hearkened unto my voice.

²⁴ If I mocked them, they believed it not; and the light of my countenance they cast not down.

²⁰ Shall it be told him that I speak? if a man speaks, surely he shall be swallowed up.

¹⁹ My soul, my soul! I am pained at my very heart; my heart makes a noise in me; I cannot hold my peace, because you have heard, O my soul, the sound of the trumpet, the alarm of war.

⁶ Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be calamity in a city, and the LORD has not done it?

⁸ Their horses also are swifter than the leopards, and are more fierce than the evening wolves: and their horsemen press proudly on, their horsemen shall come from afar; they shall fly as the eagle that hastens to eat. ⁹ They shall all come for violence: their faces are set like the east wind, and they shall gather captives as the sand.

⁴¹ And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have you here any food?

³ Let them be turned back for a reward of their shame that say, Aha, aha.

² Son of man, because that Tyre has said against Jerusalem, Aha, she is broken that was the gates of the people: she is turned over unto me: I shall be replenished, now she is laid waste:

² Thus says the Lord GOD; Because the enemy has said against you, Aha, even the ancient high places are ours in possession:

¹¹ And Aaron shall bring the bullock of the sin offering, which is for himself, and shall make an atonement for himself, and for his house, and shall kill the bullock of the sin offering which is for himself:

¹² The flowers appear on the earth; the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land;

⁴ You have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles' wings, and brought you unto myself.

¹³ And these are they which you shall hold in abomination among the fowls; they shall not be eaten, they are an abomination: the eagle, and the vulture, and the osprey,

⁵ Who satisfies your mouth with good things; so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.

⁵ Will you set your eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.

³¹ But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

¹⁶ Your fierceness has deceived you, and the pride of your heart, O you that dwell in the clefts of the rock, that hold the height of the hill: though you should make your nest as high as the eagle, I will bring you down from there, says the LORD.

¹ Set the trumpet to your mouth. He shall come as an eagle over the house of the LORD, because they have transgressed my covenant, and trespassed against my law.

⁴ Though you exalt yourself as the eagle, and though you set your nest among the stars, from there will I bring you down, says the LORD.

⁴ And between the passes, by which Jonathan sought to go over unto the Philistines' garrison, there was a sharp rock on the one side, and a sharp rock on the other side: and the name of the one was Bozez, and the name of the other Seneh.

²⁶ They are passed away as the swift ships: as the eagle that hastens to the prey.

¹⁷ And, you son of man, thus says the Lord GOD; Speak unto every feathered fowl, and to every beast of the field, Assemble yourselves, and come; gather yourselves on every side to my sacrifice that I do sacrifice for you, even a great sacrifice upon the mountains of Israel, that you may eat flesh, and drink blood. ¹⁸ You shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood of the princes of the earth, of rams, of lambs, and of goats, of bullocks, all of them fatlings of Bashan. ¹⁹ And you shall eat fat till you are full, and drink blood till you are drunk, of my sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you.

²⁸ For wherever the carcass is, there will the vultures be gathered together.

³⁷ And they answered and said unto him, Where, Lord? And he said unto them, Wherever the body is, there will the vultures be gathered together.
