¹⁹ Drought and heat consume the snow waters: so does the grave those who have sinned.

¹⁵ My brethren have dealt deceitfully as a brook, and as the stream of brooks that pass away; ¹⁶ Which are black by reason of the ice, and in which the snow is hid: ¹⁷ At what time they become warm, they vanish: when it is hot, they vanish out of their place.

¹³ They spend their days in wealth, and in a moment go down to the grave.

²³ One dies in his full strength, being wholly at ease and quiet.

³² Yet shall he be brought to the grave, and shall remain in the tomb. ³³ The clods of the valley shall be sweet unto him, and every man shall follow after him, as there are innumerable gone before him. ³⁴ How then do you comfort me in vain, seeing in your answers there remains falsehood?

¹⁴ Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling.

⁸ As a snail who melts, let every one of them pass away: like the untimely birth of a woman, that they may not see the sun. ⁹ Before your pots can feel the burning thorns, he shall take them away as with a whirlwind, both living, and in his wrath.

² As smoke is driven away, so drive them away: as wax melts before the fire, so let the wicked perish at the presence of God.

³² The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous has hope in his death.

⁴ For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a living dog is better than a dead lion. ⁵ For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. ⁶ Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion forever in any thing that is done under the sun.

²⁰ But God said unto him, You fool, this night your soul shall be required of you: then whose shall those things be, which you have prepared?
