And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel. ⁷ And he called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the striving of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the LORD, saying, Is the LORD among us, or not? ⁸ Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim. ⁹ And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in my hand. ¹⁰ So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. ¹¹ And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. ¹² But Moses' hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat on it; and Aaron and Hur held up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. ¹³ And Joshua slaughtered Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword. ¹⁴ And the LORD said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: for I will utterly put out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven. ¹⁵ And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it, The LORD is my banner: ¹⁶ For he said, Because the LORD has sworn that the LORD will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.

¹ Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the west side of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb. ² And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. ³ And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt. ⁴ And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I. ⁵ And he said, Draw not near here: put off your shoes from your feet, for the place on which you stand is holy ground.

² And the LORD said unto him, What is that in your hand? And he said, A rod.

²⁰ And Moses took his wife and his sons, and set them upon a donkey, and he returned to the land of Egypt: and Moses took the rod of God in his hand.

²¹ And they said unto them, The LORD look upon you, and judge; because you have made our favor to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to slay us.

¹⁹ And the LORD spoke unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Take your rod, and stretch out your hand upon the waters of Egypt, upon their streams, upon their rivers, and upon their ponds, and upon all their pools of water, that they may become blood; and that there may be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in vessels of wood, and in vessels of stone. ²⁰ And Moses and Aaron did so, as the LORD commanded; and he lifted up the rod, and smote the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh, and in the sight of his servants; and all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood.

¹⁴ And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and you shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your generations; you shall keep it a feast by an ordinance forever.

⁹ And it shall be for a sign unto you upon your hand, and for a memorial before your eyes, that the LORD's law may be in your mouth: for with a strong hand has the LORD brought you out of Egypt.

¹¹ And they said unto Moses, Because there were no graves in Egypt, have you taken us away to die in the wilderness? why have you dealt thus with us, to carry us forth out of Egypt? ¹² Is not this the word that we did tell you in Egypt, saying, Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it had been better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness.

¹⁵ And the LORD said unto Moses, Why do you cry unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward:

²⁴ And the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink? ²⁵ And he cried unto the LORD; and the LORD showed him a tree, which when he had cast it into the waters, the waters were made sweet: there he made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there he proved them,

¹ And they took their journey from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came unto the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departing out of the land of Egypt. ² And the whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness: ³ And the children of Israel said unto them, Would to God we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots, and when we did eat bread to the full; for you have brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger.

¹⁰ And it came to pass, as Aaron spoke unto the whole congregation of the children of Israel, that they looked toward the wilderness, and, behold, the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud.

² Therefore the people did strive with Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why do you strive with me? why do you test the LORD?

⁷ And he called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the striving of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the LORD, saying, Is the LORD among us, or not? ⁸ Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim.

² For they were departed from Rephidim, and were come to the desert of Sinai, and had camped in the wilderness; and there Israel camped before the mount.

⁴ And Moses wrote all the words of the LORD, and rose up early in the morning, and built an altar at the foot of the mountain, and twelve pillars, according to the twelve tribes of Israel.

¹³ And Moses rose up, and his minister Joshua: and Moses went up into the mount of God. ¹⁴ And he said unto the elders, Tarry you here for us, until we come again unto you: and, behold, Aaron and Hur are with you: if any man has any matters to judge, let him come unto them.

² See, I have called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah:

⁹ And he said, If now I have found grace in your sight, O Lord, let my Lord, I pray you, go among us; for it is a stiff-necked people; and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for your inheritance.

²⁷ And the LORD said unto Moses, Write these words: for after the tenor of these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.

⁴ And the mixed multitude that was among them had a strong craving: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat? ⁵ We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlic: ⁶ But now our soul is dried away: there is nothing at all, besides this manna, before our eyes.

¹¹ And Moses said unto the LORD, Why have you afflicted your servant? and why have I not found favor in your sight, that you lay the burden of all this people upon me?

²⁸ And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Moses, one of his young men, answered and said, My lord Moses, forbid them.

¹⁶ These are the names of the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Hoshea the son of Nun Joshua.

² And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said unto them, Would God that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would God we had died in this wilderness!

¹⁰ But all the congregation said to stone them with stones. And the glory of the LORD appeared in the tabernacle of meeting before all the children of Israel.

²² Because all those men who have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have put me to the test now these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice;

¹⁹ And Korah gathered all the congregation against them unto the door of the tabernacle of meeting: and the glory of the LORD appeared unto all the congregation.

² And there was no water for the congregation: and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron. ³ And the people contended with Moses, and spoke, saying, Would God that we had died when our brethren died before the LORD! ⁴ And why have you brought up the congregation of the LORD into this wilderness, that we and our cattle should die there? ⁵ And why have you made us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us in unto this evil place? it is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink.

⁸ Take the rod, and gather you the assembly together, you, and Aaron your brother, and speak unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth its water, and you shall bring forth to them water out of the rock: so you shall give the congregation and their animals drink. ⁹ And Moses took the rod from before the LORD, as he commanded him. ¹⁰ And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, you rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock? ¹¹ And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he struck the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their animals also.

¹³ This is the water of Meribah, because the children of Israel strove with the LORD, and he was sanctified among them.

²⁴ Aaron shall be gathered unto his people: for he shall not enter into the land which I have given unto the children of Israel, because you rebelled against my word at the water of Meribah.

⁵ And the people spoke against God, and against Moses, Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, neither is there any water; and our soul loathes this worthless bread.

²⁰ And when he looked on Amalek, he took up his oracle, and said, Amalek was the first of the nations; but his latter end shall be that he perish forever.

³ And Moses spoke unto the people, saying, Arm some of yourselves unto war, and let them go against the Midianites, and avenge the LORD of Midian. ⁴ Of every tribe a thousand, throughout all the tribes of Israel, shall you send to the war.

² And Moses wrote their starting points of their journeys by the commandment of the LORD: and these are their journeys according to their starting points.

¹² And they took their journey out of the wilderness of Sin, and encamped at Dophkah. ¹³ And they departed from Dophkah, and encamped at Alush. ¹⁴ And they set out from Alush, and encamped at Rephidim, where there was no water for the people to drink.

¹⁶ You shall not test the LORD your God, as you tested him in Massah.

¹⁵ Who led you through that great and terrible wilderness, in which were fiery serpents, and scorpions, and thirsty land, where there was no water; who brought you forth water out of the rock of flint;

²² And at Taberah, and at Massah, and at Kibrothhattaavah, you provoked the LORD to wrath.

¹⁷ Remember what Amalek did unto you by the way, when you came forth out of Egypt; ¹⁸ How he met you by the way, and attacked those behind you, even all that were feeble behind you, when you were faint and weary; and he feared not God. ¹⁹ Therefore it shall be, when the LORD your God has given you rest from all your enemies round about, in the land which the LORD your God gives you for an inheritance to possess it, that you shall blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven; you shall not forget it.

⁹ And Moses wrote this law, and delivered it unto the priests the sons of Levi, who bore the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and unto all the elders of Israel.

¹⁷ Then my anger shall be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake them, and I will hide my face from them, and they shall be devoured, and many evils and troubles shall befall them; so that they will say in that day, Are not these evils come upon us, because our God is not among us?

⁴⁴ And Moses came and spoke all the words of this song in the ears of the people, he, and Joshua the son of Nun.

⁷ Then you shall answer them, That the waters of Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD; when it passed over Jordan, the waters of Jordan were cut off: and these stones shall be for a memorial unto the children of Israel forever.

²⁸ And that day Joshua took Makkedah, and struck it with the edge of the sword, and its king he utterly destroyed, the people, and all the souls that were therein; he let none remain: and he did to the king of Makkedah as he did unto the king of Jericho.

³² And the LORD delivered Lachish into the hand of Israel, who took it on the second day, and struck it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein, according to all that he had done to Libnah.

³⁷ And they took it, and struck it with the edge of the sword, and its king, and all its cities, and all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining, according to all that he had done to Eglon; but destroyed it utterly, and all the souls that were therein.

⁴² And all these kings and their land did Joshua take at one time, because the LORD God of Israel fought for Israel.

¹² And all the cities of those kings, and all their kings, did Joshua take, and struck them with the edge of the sword, and he utterly destroyed them, as Moses the servant of the LORD commanded.

¹⁵ As the LORD commanded Moses his servant, so did Moses command Joshua, and so did Joshua; he left nothing undone of all that the LORD commanded Moses.

³¹ And Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest said unto the children of Reuben, and to the children of Gad, and to the children of Manasseh, This day we perceive that the LORD is among us, because you have not committed this trespass against the LORD: now you have delivered the children of Israel out of the hand of the LORD.

²⁴ Then Gideon built an altar there unto the LORD, and called it Jehovahshalom: unto this day it is yet in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.

⁶ But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the LORD.

¹⁷ And David struck them from the twilight even unto the evening of the next day: and there escaped not a man of them, except four hundred young men, who rode upon camels, and fled.

And I answered him, I am an Amalekite. ⁹ He said unto me again, Stand, I pray you, upon me, and slay me: for anguish is come upon me, because my life is yet whole in me. ¹⁰ So I stood upon him, and slew him, because I was sure that he could not live after that he was fallen: and I took the crown that was upon his head, and the bracelet that was on his arm, and have brought them here unto my lord. ¹¹ Then David took hold on his clothes, and tore them; and likewise all the men that were with him: ¹² And they mourned, and wept, and fasted until evening, for Saul, and for Jonathan his son, and for the people of the LORD, and for the house of Israel; because they were fallen by the sword. ¹³ And David said unto the young man that told him, From where are you? And he answered, I am the son of a stranger, an Amalekite. ¹⁴ And David said unto him, How were you not afraid to stretch forth your hand to destroy the LORD’S anointed? ¹⁵ And David called one of the young men, and said, Go near, and fall upon him. And he struck him so that he died. ¹⁶ And David said unto him, Your blood be upon your head; for your mouth has testified against you, saying, I have slain the LORD’S anointed.

⁴³ And they destroyed the rest of the Amalekites that had escaped, and dwelt there unto this day.

¹⁴ Should we again break your commandments, and join in marriage with the people of these abominations? would not you be angry with us till you had consumed us, so that there should be no remnant nor escaping? ¹⁵ And gave them bread from heaven for their hunger, and brought forth water for them out of the rock for their thirst, and promised them that they should go in to possess the land which you had sworn to give them.

¹⁷ His memory shall perish from the earth, and he shall have no name in the street.

²³ Oh that my words were now written! oh that they were printed in a book!

⁶ O you enemy, destructions are come to an everlasting end: and you have destroyed cities; their memory is perished with them.

⁸ Your hand shall find out all your enemies: your right hand shall find out those that hate you. ⁹ You shall make them as a fiery oven in the time of your anger: the LORD shall swallow them up in his wrath, and the fire shall devour them. ¹⁰ Their offspring shall you destroy from the earth, and their descendants from among the children of men. ¹¹ For they intended evil against you: they devised a mischievous act, which they are not able to perform.

³ Draw out also the spear, and stop the way against them that persecute me: say unto my soul, I am your salvation.

⁴ There is a river, the streams of which shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacle of the most High.

⁹ When I cry unto you, then shall my enemies turn back: this I know; for God is for me.

⁴ You have given a banner to them that fear you, that it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah.

¹⁵ He split the rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink as out of the great depths. ¹⁶ He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers.

¹⁸ And they tested God in their heart by asking food for their lust.

²⁰ Behold, he struck the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide meat for his people?

⁴¹ Yea, they turned back and tested God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.

⁵⁶ Yet they tested and provoked the most high God, and kept not his testimonies:

⁷ You called in trouble, and I delivered you; I answered you in the secret place of thunder: I tested you at the waters of Meribah. Selah.

⁷ Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre;

⁸ Harden not your heart, as in the provocation, and as in the day of trials in the wilderness: ⁹ When your fathers tested me, tried me, and saw my work.

⁴¹ He opened the rock, and the waters gushed out; they ran in the dry places like a river.

¹⁴ But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tested God in the desert.

⁸ Who turned the rock into a pool of water, the flint into a fountain of waters.

⁷ The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot.

¹² But Ahaz said, I will not ask, neither will I test the LORD.

⁶ Cry out and shout, you inhabitant of Zion: for great is the Holy One of Israel in the midst of you.

³ Strengthen you the weak hands, and make firm the feeble knees.

¹⁷ When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongues fail for thirst, I the LORD will hear them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them. ¹⁸ I will open rivers in high places, and fountains in the midst of the valleys: I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water.

¹⁹ Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert. ²⁰ The beast of the field shall honor me, the jackals and the ostriches: because I give waters in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert, to give drink to my people, my chosen.

²¹ And they thirsted not when he led them through the deserts: he caused the waters to flow out of the rock for them: he split the rock also, and the waters gushed out.

¹ Thus says the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that you build unto me? and where is the place of my rest?

⁶ And you, son of man, be not afraid of them, neither be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns are with you, and you do dwell among scorpions: be not afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, though they be a rebellious house.

² Speak now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and to the remnant of the people, saying, ³ Who is left among you that saw this house in her first glory? and how do you see it now? is it not in your eyes in comparison of it as nothing?

¹⁵ And now we call the proud happy; yea, they that work wickedness are raised up; yea, they that test God are even delivered.

⁷ Jesus said unto him, It is written again, You shall not test the Lord your God.

¹ The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and testing him desired that he would show them a sign from heaven. ² He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, you say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red. ³ And in the morning, It will be foul weather today: for the sky is red and overcast. O you hypocrites, you can discern the appearance of the sky; but can you not discern the signs of the times?

⁴⁰ And he came unto the disciples, and found them asleep, and said unto Peter, What, could you not watch with me one hour? ⁴¹ Watch and pray, that you enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. ⁴² He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, your will be done. ⁴³ And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy. ⁴⁴ And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words. ⁴⁵ Then came he to his disciples, and said unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

²⁰ Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

³⁷ And he came, and found them sleeping, and said unto Peter, Simon, do you sleep? could you not watch one hour? ³⁸ Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak. ³⁹ And again he went away, and prayed, and spoke the same words. ⁴⁰ And when he returned, he found them asleep again, (for their eyes were heavy,) neither knew they what to answer him.

¹⁴ But whosoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

³⁷ In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. ³⁸ He that believes on me, as the scripture has said, out of his heart shall flow rivers of living water.

⁵⁹ Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

³⁷ This is that Moses, who said unto the children of Israel, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall you hear. ³⁸ This is he, that was in the congregation in the wilderness with the angel who spoke to him in the mount Sinai, and with our fathers: who received the living oracles to give unto us: ³⁹ Whom our fathers would not obey, but thrust him from them, and in their hearts turned back again into Egypt,

⁴⁵ Which also our fathers that came after brought in with Joshua into the possession of the nations, which God drove out before the face of our fathers, unto the days of David;
