¹⁶ And it came to pass, as he talked with him, that the king said unto him, Are you made the king’s counselor? stop; why should you be killed? Then the prophet stopped, and said, I know that God has determined to destroy you, because you have done this, and have not hearkened unto my counsel. ¹⁷ Then Amaziah king of Judah took advice, and sent to Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let us look one another in the face. ¹⁸ And Joash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, Give your daughter to my son as a wife: and there passed by a wild beast that was in Lebanon, and trod down the thistle. ¹⁹ You say, Lo, you have smitten the Edomites; and your heart lifts you up to boast: abide now at home; why should you meddle to your hurt, that you should fall, even you, and Judah with you? ²⁰ But Amaziah would not hear; for it came of God, that he might deliver them into the hand of their enemies, because they sought after the gods of Edom.

⁷ Since the days of our fathers have we been in a great trespass unto this day; and for our iniquities have we, our kings, and our priests, been delivered into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity, and to plunder, and to humiliation, as it is this day.

⁸ For inquire, I pray you, of the former age, and prepare yourself to the findings of their fathers: ⁹ (For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days upon earth are a shadow:)

¹² With the ancient is wisdom; and in length of days understanding. ¹³ With him is wisdom and strength, he has counsel and understanding.

⁷ I said, Days should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom.

¹ Why do the nations rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? ² The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, ³ Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. ⁴ He that sits in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. ⁵ Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and distress them in his great displeasure. ⁶ Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.

¹⁰ Surely the wrath of man shall praise you: the remainder of wrath shall you restrain.

²⁹ His descendants also will I make to endure forever, and his throne as the days of heaven. ³⁰ If his children forsake my law, and walk not in my judgments;

³⁰ If his children forsake my law, and walk not in my judgments; ³¹ If they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments; ³² Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes. ³³ Nevertheless my lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him, nor allow my faithfulness to fail. ³⁴ My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips. ³⁵ Once have I sworn by my holiness that I will not lie unto David. ³⁶ His descendants shall endure forever, and his throne as the sun before me. ³⁷ It shall be established forever as the moon, and as a faithful witness in heaven. Selah.

¹⁷ There will I make the horn of David to bud: I have ordained a lamp for my anointed.

²⁵ But you have ignored all my counsel, and would have none of my reproof:

²⁸ Say not unto your neighbor, Go, and come again, and tomorrow I will give; when you have it with you.

⁹ Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

¹⁴ Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.

⁵ The thoughts of the righteous are right: but the counsels of the wicked are deceitful.

¹⁵ The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkens unto counsel is wise.

¹⁶ Every prudent man deals with knowledge: but a fool lays open his folly.

²⁰ He that walks with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

¹⁶ A wise man fears, and departs from evil: but the fool rages, and is confident.

¹ A soft answer turns away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.

¹⁴ The beginning of strife is like releasing water: therefore leave off contention, before a quarrel starts.

⁶ A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calls for blows. ⁷ A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.

²⁰ Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that you may be wise in your latter days.

²⁷ Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causes to stray from the words of knowledge.

³⁰ There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.

¹² As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.

¹⁰ Your own friend, and your father's friend, forsake not; neither go into your brother's house in the day of your calamity: for better is a neighbor that is near than a brother far off.

²⁵ He that is of a proud heart stirs up strife: but he that puts his trust in the LORD shall be prospered.

²³ A man's pride shall bring him low: but honor shall uphold the humble in spirit.

¹⁹ And who knows whether he shall be a wise man or a fool? yet shall he have rule over all my labor in which I have labored, and in which I have shown myself wise under the sun. This is also vanity.

⁸ Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.

² A wise man's heart is at his right hand; but a fool's heart at his left. ³ Yea also, when he that is a fool walks by the way, his wisdom fails him, and he says to every one that he is a fool.

¹⁶ Woe to you, O land, when your king is a child, and your princes feast in the morning!

⁶ For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. ⁷ Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

¹ And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:

¹¹ Surely the princes of Zoan are fools, the counsel of the wise counselors of Pharaoh give foolish counsel: how do you say unto Pharaoh, I am the son of the wise, the son of ancient kings? ¹² Where are they? where are your wise men? and let them tell you now, and let them know what the LORD of hosts has purposed upon Egypt. ¹³ The princes of Zoan have become fools, the princes of Memphis are deceived; they have also seduced Egypt, even they that are the cornerstones of its tribes. ¹⁴ The LORD has mixed a perverse spirit in its midst: and they have caused Egypt to err in her every work, as a drunken man staggers in his vomit.

¹ Woe to the rebellious children, says the LORD, that take counsel, but not from me; and that cover with a covering, but not of my spirit, that they may add sin to sin:

¹² Therefore thus says the Holy One of Israel, Because you despise this word, and trust in oppression and perverseness, and rely on them: ¹³ Therefore this iniquity shall be to you like a breach ready to fall, a bulge in a high wall, whose breaking comes suddenly, in an instant.

⁶ I was angry with my people, I have profaned my inheritance, and given them into your hand: you did show them no mercy; upon the aged have you very heavily laid your yoke.

⁶ Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every yoke?

¹³ Go and tell Hananiah, saying, Thus says the LORD; You have broken the yokes of wood; but you shall make for them yokes of iron. ¹⁴ For thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; I have put a yoke of iron upon the neck of all these nations, that they may serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; and they shall serve him: and I have given him the beasts of the field also.

²⁰ Thus says the LORD; if you can break my covenant of the day, and my covenant of the night, and that there should not be day and night in their season; ²¹ Then may also my covenant be broken with David my servant, that he should not have a son to reign upon his throne; and with the Levites the priests, my ministers.

²⁵ Thus says the LORD; If my covenant is not with day and night, and if I have not appointed the ordinances of heaven and earth; ²⁶ Then will I cast away the descendants of Jacob, and David my servant, so that I will not take any of his descendants to be rulers over the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob: for I will cause their captivity to return, and have mercy on them.

² And said unto Jeremiah the prophet, Let, we beseech you, our supplication be accepted before you, and pray for us unto the LORD your God, even for all this remnant; (for we are left but a few of many, as your eyes do behold us:) ³ That the LORD your God may show us the way in which we may walk, and the thing that we may do. ⁴ Then Jeremiah the prophet said unto them, I have heard you; behold, I will pray unto the LORD your God according to your words; and it shall come to pass, that whatsoever thing the LORD shall answer you, I will declare it unto you; I will keep nothing back from you. ⁵ Then they said to Jeremiah, The LORD be a true and faithful witness between us, if we do not even according to all things which the LORD your God shall send by you to us.

²⁰ For you were hypocrites in your hearts, when you sent me unto the LORD your God, saying, Pray for us unto the LORD our God; and according unto all that the LORD our God shall say, so declare unto us, and we will do it.

²⁴ And David my servant shall be king over them; and they all shall have one shepherd: they shall also walk in my judgments, and observe my statutes, and do them. ²⁵ And they shall dwell in the land that I have given unto Jacob my servant, in which your fathers have dwelt; and they shall dwell there, even they, and their children, and their children’s children forever: and my servant David shall be their prince forever.

⁷ All the presidents of the kingdom, the governors, and the satraps, the counselors, and the advisors, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a firm decree, that whosoever shall ask a petition of any God or man for thirty days, except from you, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions.

¹¹ In that day will I raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen, and close up its breaches; and I will raise up its ruins, and I will rebuild it as in the days of old:

⁷ And Solomon begat Rehoboam; and Rehoboam begat Abijah; and Abijah begat Asa;

²⁹ Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and you shall find rest unto your souls.

³² He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: ³³ And he shall reign over the house of Jacob forever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.

¹⁹ Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

¹⁴ But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us.

²⁷ But those my enemies, who would not that I should reign over them, bring here, and slay them before me.

⁶⁶ From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.

⁵³ And every man went unto his own house.

³⁷ But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him: ³⁸ That the saying of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke, Lord, who has believed our report? and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? ³⁹ Therefore they could not believe, because Isaiah said again,

²⁴ They said therefore among themselves, Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which said, They parted my garments among them, and for my clothing they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did.

³² Then came the soldiers, and broke the legs of the first, and of the other who was crucified with him. ³³ But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they broke not his legs: ³⁴ But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and immediately came there out blood and water. ³⁵ And he that saw it bares record, and his record is true: and he knows that he says the truth, that you might believe. ³⁶ For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.

²³ Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, you have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:

³⁰ Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of his descendants, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;

²⁸ To do whatsoever your hand and your counsel determined before to be done.

⁵⁷ Then they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran upon him with one accord, ⁵⁸ And cast him out of the city, and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a young man's feet, whose name was Saul.

²⁵ For he must reign, till he has put all enemies under his feet.

¹⁴ But if you have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, boast not, and lie not against the truth.

³ For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not burdensome.

³ And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power.

⁵ And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when it strikes a man.

¹⁰ And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to hurt men five months.

¹⁶ I Jesus have sent my angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.
