¹ Ask ye of the LORD rain in the time of the latter rain, even of the LORD that maketh lightnings; and He will give them showers of rain, to every one grass in the field.

¹³ And it shall come to pass, if ye shall hearken diligently unto My commandments which I command you this day, to love the LORD your God, and to serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul, ¹⁴ that I will give the rain of your land in its season, the former rain and the latter rain, that thou mayest gather in thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil.

²³ And thy heaven that is over thy head shall be brass, and the earth that is under thee shall be iron.

¹ And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the settlers of Gilead, said unto Ahab: 'As the LORD, the God of Israel, liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.'

⁴¹ And Elijah said unto Ahab: 'Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is the sound of abundance of rain.' ⁴² So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he bowed himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees. ⁴³ And he said to his servant: 'Go up now, look toward the sea.' And he went up, and looked, and said: 'There is nothing.' And he said: 'Go again seven times.' ⁴⁴ And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said: 'Behold, there ariseth a cloud out of the sea, as small as a man's hand.' And he said: 'Go up, say unto Ahab: Make ready thy chariot, and get thee down, that the rain stop thee not.' ⁴⁵ And it came to pass in a little while, that the heaven grew black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel.

²³ And they waited for me as for the rain; and they opened their mouth wide as for the latter rain.

²⁷ For He draweth away the drops of water, which distil rain from His vapour; ²⁸ Which the skies pour down and drop upon the multitudes of men. ²⁹ Yea, can any understand the spreadings of the clouds, the crashings of His pavilion? ³⁰ Behold, He spreadeth His light upon it; and He covereth the depths of the sea. ³¹ For by these He judgeth the peoples; He giveth food in abundance.

¹ At this also my heart trembleth, and is moved out of its place. ² Hear attentively the noise of His voice, and the sound that goeth out of His mouth. ³ He sendeth it forth under the whole heaven, and His lightning unto the ends of the earth. ⁴ After it a voice roareth; He thundereth with the voice of His majesty; and He stayeth them not when His voice is heard. ⁵ God thundereth marvellously with His voice; great things doeth He, which we cannot comprehend. ⁶ For He saith to the snow: 'Fall thou on the earth'; likewise to the shower of rain, and to the showers of His mighty rain.

⁹ (65:10) Thou hast remembered the earth, and watered her, greatly enriching her, with the river of God that is full of water; Thou preparest them corn, for so preparest Thou her.

⁶ May he come down like rain upon the mown grass, as showers that water the earth.

¹³ Who waterest the mountains from Thine upper chambers; the earth is full of the fruit of Thy works.

¹⁵ In the light of the king's countenance is life; and his favour is as a cloud of the latter rain.

⁶ And I will lay it waste: it shall not be pruned nor hoed, but there shall come up briers and thorns; I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it.

²³ And He will give the rain for thy seed, wherewith thou sowest the ground, and bread of the increase of the ground, and it shall be fat and plenteous; in that day shall thy cattle feed in large pastures.

³ For I will pour water upon the thirsty land, and streams upon the dry ground; I will pour My spirit upon thy seed, and My blessing upon thine offspring;

¹³ At the sound of His giving a multitude of waters in the heavens, when He causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth; when He maketh lightnings with the rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of His treasuries;

²² Are there any among the vanities of the nations that can cause rain? or can the heavens give showers? Art not Thou He, O LORD our God, and do we not wait for Thee? For Thou hast made all these things.

¹⁶ At the sound of His giving a multitude of waters in the heavens, He causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth; He maketh lightnings at the time of the rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of His treasuries;

²⁶ And I will make them and the places round about My hill a blessing; and I will cause the shower to come down in its season; there shall be showers of blessing.

³⁷ Thus saith the Lord GOD: I will yet for this be inquired of by the house of Israel, to do it for them; I will increase them with men like a flock.

³ And let us know, eagerly strive to know the LORD, His going forth is sure as the morning; and He shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter rain that watereth the earth.'

¹² Sow to yourselves according to righteousness, reap according to mercy, break up your fallow ground; for it is time to seek the LORD, till He come and cause righteousness to rain upon you.

²³ Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God; for He giveth you the former rain in just measure, and He causeth to come down for you the rain, the former rain and the latter rain, at the first. ²⁴ And the floors shall be full of corn, and the vats shall overflow with wine and oil.

⁷ And I also have withholden the rain from you, when there were yet three months to the harvest; and I caused it to rain upon one city, and caused it not to rain upon another city; one piece was rained upon, and the piece whereupon it rained not withered.

⁷ (5:6) And the remnant of Jacob shall be in the midst of many peoples, as dew from the LORD, as showers upon the grass, that are not looked for from man, nor awaited at the hands of the sons of men.

⁷ Ask, and it shall be given you, seek, and ye shall find, knock, and it shall be opened unto you; ⁸ for every one that asketh receiveth, and he that seeketh findeth, and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

²³ And in that day ye shall ask me no question. Verily, verily, I say unto you, if ye shall ask anything of the Father, he will give it you in my name.

⁶ I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase.

⁷ Be patient therefore, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient for it, until it receive the early and latter rain.

¹⁶ Confess your trespasses one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The supplication of a righteous man availeth much in its working. ¹⁷ Elijah was a man of like passions with us, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and it rained not on the earth for three years and six months. ¹⁸ And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.
