Proverbs 21 Cross References - JPS_ASV_Byz

1 The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD as the watercourses: He turneth it whithersoever He will. 2 Every way of a man is right in his own eyes; but the LORD weigheth the hearts. 3 To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice. 4 A haughty look, and a proud heart - the tillage of the wicked is sin. 5 The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but every one that is hasty hasteth only to want. 6 The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vapour driven to and fro; they that seek them seek death. 7 The violence of the wicked shall drag them away; because they refuse to do justly. 8 The way of man is froward and strange; but as for the pure, his work is right. 9 It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than in a house in common with a contentious woman. 10 The soul of the wicked desireth evil; his neighbour findeth no favour in his eyes. 11 When the scorner is punished, the thoughtless is made wise; and when the wise is instructed, he receiveth knowledge. 12 The Righteous One considereth the house of the wicked; overthrowing the wicked to their ruin. 13 Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be answered. 14 A gift in secret pacifieth anger, and a present in the bosom strong wrath. 15 To do justly is joy to the righteous, but ruin to the workers of iniquity. 16 The man that strayeth out of the way of understanding shall rest in the congregation of the shades. 17 He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man; he that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich. 18 The wicked is a ransom for the righteous; and the faithless cometh in the stead of the upright. 19 It is better to dwell in a desert land, than with a contentious and fretful woman. 20 There is desirable treasure and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man swalloweth it up. 21 He that followeth after righteousness and mercy findeth life, prosperity, and honour. 22 A wise man scaleth the city of the mighty, and bringeth down the stronghold wherein it trusteth. 23 Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles. 24 A proud and haughty man, scorner is his name, even he that dealeth in overbearing pride. 25 The desire of the slothful killeth him; for his hands refuse to labour. 26 There is that coveteth greedily all the day long; but the righteous giveth and spareth not. 27 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination; how much more, when he bringeth it with the proceeds of wickedness? 28 A false witness shall perish; but the man that obeyeth shall speak unchallenged. 29 A wicked man hardeneth his face; but as for the upright, he looketh well to his way. 30 There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD. 31 The horse is prepared against the day of battle; but victory is of the LORD.

And he answered: 'I do hear.' 18 Then she spoke, saying: 'They were wont to speak in old time, saying: They shall surely ask counsel at Abel; and so they ended the matter. 19 We are of them that are peaceable and faithful in Israel; seekest thou to destroy a city and a mother in Israel? why wilt thou swallow up the inheritance of the LORD?' 20 And Joab answered and said: 'Far be it, far be it from me, that I should swallow up or destroy. 21 The matter is not so; but a man of the hill-country of Ephraim, Sheba the son of Bichri by name, hath lifted up his hand against the king, even against David; deliver him only, and I will depart from the city.' And the woman said unto Joab: 'Behold, his head shall be thrown to thee over the wall.' 22 Then the woman went unto all the people in her wisdom. 7 to them that by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and incorruption, eternal life: 8 but unto them that are factious, and obey not the truth, but obey unrighteousness, shall be wrath and indignation, 9 tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that worketh evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Greek, 10 but glory and honor and peace to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek:

5 Howbeit with most of them God was not well pleased; for they were overthrown in the wilderness. 6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.

1 Corinthians 10:6-11

6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted. 7 Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them, as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play. 8 Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand. 9 Neither let us make trial of the Lord, as some of them made trial, and perished by the serpents. 10 Neither murmur ye, as some of them murmured, and perished by the destroyer. 11 Now these things happened unto them by way of example, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages are come.

2 Corinthians 1:17-20

17 When I therefore was thus minded, did I show fickleness? or the things that I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, that with me there should be the yea yea and the nay nay? 18 But as God is faithful, our word toward you was not yea and nay. 19 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, even by me and Silvanus and Timothy, was not yea and nay, but in him is yea. 20 For how many soever be the promises of God, in him is the yea; wherefore also through him is the Amen, unto the glory of God through us.

2 Corinthians 4:13

13 But having the same spirit of faith, according to that which is written, I believed, and therefore did I speak, we also believe, and therefore also we speak,

2 Corinthians 8:7-9

7 But as ye abound in everything, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and in all earnestness, and in your love to us, see that ye abound in this grace also. 8 I speak not by way of commandment, but as proving through the earnestness of others the sincerity also of your love. 9 For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might become rich.

2 Corinthians 9:9-14

9 as it is written, He hath scattered abroad, he hath given to the poor, His righteousness abideth for ever. 10 And he that supplieth seed to the sower and bread for food, may he supply and multiply your seed for sowing, and increase the fruits of your righteousness: 11 ye being enriched in everything unto all liberality, which worketh through us thanksgiving to God. 12 For the ministration of this service not only filleth up the measure of the wants of the saints, but aboundeth also through many thanksgivings unto God, 13 seeing that through the proving of you by this ministration they glorify God for the obedience of your confession unto the gospel of Christ, and for the liberality of your contribution unto them and unto all, 14 while they themselves also, with supplication on your behalf, long after you by reason of the exceeding grace of God in you.

Ephesians 2:1

1 And you did he make alive, when ye were dead through trespasses and sins, 2 wherein ye once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that now worketh in the sons of disobedience, 3 among whom we also all once lived in the lust of our flesh, doing the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest:—

1 Thessalonians 2:5-9

5 For neither at any time were we found using words of flattery, as ye know, nor a cloak of covetousness, God is witness, 6 nor seeking glory of men, neither from you nor from others, when we might have claimed authority as apostles of Christ. 7 But we were gentle in the midst of you, as when a nurse cherisheth her own children: 8 even so, being affectionately desirous of you, we were well pleased to impart unto you, not the gospel of God only, but also our own souls, because ye were become very dear to us. 9 For ye remember, brethren, our labor and travail; working night and day, that we might not burden any of you, we preached unto you the gospel of God.

1 Thessalonians 3:11

11 Now may our God and Father himself, and our Lord Jesus, direct our way unto you:

21 prove all things, hold fast that which is good,

1 Timothy 5:6

6 But she that giveth herself to pleasure is dead while she liveth.

1 Timothy 6:9-10

9 But they that are minded to be rich fall into a temptation and a snare and many foolish and hurtful lusts, such as drown men in destruction and perdition. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil; which some reaching after have been led astray from the faith, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows. 11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things, and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.

2 Timothy 2:22

22 But flee youthful lusts, and follow after righteousness, faith, love, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

4 traitors, headstrong, puffed up, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,

2 Timothy 4:7-8

7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith: 8 henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give to me at that day, and not to me only, but also to all them that have loved his appearing.

11 whose mouths must be stopped, men who overthrow whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake.

5 not by works done in righteousness, which we did ourselves, but according to his mercy he saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,

Titus 3:8

8 Faithful is the saying, and concerning these things I desire that thou affirm confidently, to the end that they who have believed God may be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men:

Hebrews 2:1-3

1 Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things that were heard, lest haply we drift away from them. 2 For if the word spoken through angels proved stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense of reward, 3 how shall we escape, if we neglect so great a salvation? which having at the first been spoken through the Lord, was confirmed unto us by them that heard,

Hebrews 6:4-6

4 For as touching those who were once enlightened and tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Spirit, 5 and tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the age to come, 6 and then fell away, it is impossible to renew them again unto repentance, seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

Hebrews 10:26-27

26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more a sacrifice for sins, 27 but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and a fierceness of fire which shall devour the adversaries. 28 A man that hath set at nought Moses law dieth without compassion on the word of two or three witnesses: 29 of how much sorer punishment, think ye, shall he be judged worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant wherewith he was sanctified an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

Hebrews 10:38

38 But the righteous one shall live by faith; And if he shrink back, my soul hath no pleasure in him.

26 If any man among you thinketh himself to be religious, while he bridleth not his tongue but deceiveth his heart, this man's religion is vain.

James 2:13

13 For judgment is without mercy to him that hath showed no mercy; mercy glorieth against judgment.

James 2:13-16

13 For judgment is without mercy to him that hath showed no mercy; mercy glorieth against judgment. 14 What doth it profit, my brethren, if a man say he hath faith, but have not works? can that faith save him? 15 And if a brother or sister be naked and in lack of daily food, 16 and one of you say unto them, Go in peace, be ye warmed and filled, and yet ye give them not the things needful to the body, what doth it profit?

James 3:2-13

2 For in many things we all stumble. If any stumbleth not in word, the same is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body also. 3 Behold, we put the horses' bridles into their mouths that they may obey us, we turn about their whole body also. 4 Behold, the ships also, though they are so great and are driven by rough winds, are yet turned about by a very small rudder, whither the impulse of the steersman willeth. 5 So the tongue also is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how much wood is kindled by how small a fire! 6 And the tongue is a fire, the world of iniquity. Thus is the tongue set among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the wheel of nature, and is set on fire by hell. 7 For every kind of beasts and birds, of creeping things and things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed by mankind. 8 But the tongue can no man tame, it is an unruly evil, it is full of deadly poison. 9 Therewith bless we the God and Father, and therewith curse we men, who are made after the likeness of God: 10 out of the same mouth cometh forth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. 11 Doth the fountain send forth from the same opening sweet water and bitter? 12 Can a fig tree, my brethren, yield olives, or a vine figs? So can no fountain both yield salt water and sweet. 13 Who is wise and understanding among you? let him show by his good life his works in meekness of wisdom.

James 4:1-5

1 Whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your pleasures that war in your members? 2 Ye lust, and have not; ye kill, and covet, and cannot obtain; ye fight and war, ye have not, because ye ask not. 3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may spend it in your pleasures. 4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore would be a friend of the world maketh himself an enemy of God. 5 Or think ye that the scripture speaketh in vain? Doth the spirit that dwelleth in us long unto envying?

James 5:4-6

4 Behold, the hire of the laborers who mowed your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth out; and the cries of them that reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth. 5 Ye have lived delicately on the earth, and taken your pleasure, ye have nourished your hearts as in a day of slaughter. 6 Ye have condemned, ye have killed the righteous one, he doth not resist you.

1 Peter 1:7

7 that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold that perisheth though it is proved by fire, may be found unto praise and honor and unto glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ:

1 Peter 1:22-23

22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in your obedience to the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, love one another from a pure heart fervently: 23 having been begotten again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, through the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

5 Likewise, ye younger, be subject unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another. Gird yourselves with humility, for God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble.

2 Peter 2:3

3 And in covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you; whose sentence now from of old lingereth not, and their destruction shall not slumber. 4 For if God spared not angels when they sinned, but cast them down to hell, and committed them to pits of darkness, being reserved unto judgment, 5 and spared not the ancient world, but preserved Noah with seven others, a preacher of righteousness, when he brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly, 6 and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, having made them an example unto those that should live impiously, 7 and delivered righteous Lot, sore distressed by the lascivious life of the wicked 8 (for that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their lawless deeds): 9 the Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptation, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment unto the day of judgment,

2 Peter 2:21-22

21 For it were better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after knowing it, to turn back from the holy commandment delivered unto them. 22 But it has happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog turning to his own vomit again, and the sow that had washed to wallowing in the mire.

2 Peter 3:6-7

6 by which means the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: 7 but the heavens that now are, and the earth, by his word have been stored up for fire, being reserved against the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.
