¹ Hear ye this, O house of Jacob, who are called by the name of Israel, and are come forth out of the fountain of Judah; who swear by the name of the LORD, and make mention of the God of Israel, but not in truth, nor in righteousness.

²⁸ (32:29) And he said: 'Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel; for thou hast striven with God and with men, and hast prevailed.'

¹⁰ And God said unto him: 'Thy name is Jacob: thy name shall not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name'; and He called his name Israel.

¹³ And in all things that I have said unto you take ye heed; and make no mention of the name of other gods, neither let it be heard out of thy mouth.

¹² And ye shall not swear by My name falsely, so that thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD.

⁷ Water shall flow from his branches, and his seed shall be in many waters; and his king shall be higher than Agag, and his kingdom shall be exalted.

²⁸ (5:25) And the LORD heard the voice of your words, when ye spoke unto me; and the LORD said unto me: 'I have heard the voice of the words of this people, which they have spoken unto thee; they have well said all that they have spoken.

¹³ Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God; and Him shalt thou serve, and by His name shalt thou swear.

²⁰ Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God; Him shalt thou serve; and to Him shalt thou cleave, and by His name shalt thou swear.

²⁸ And Israel dwelleth in safety, the fountain of Jacob alone, in a land of corn and wine; yea, his heavens drop down dew.

³⁴ Unto this day they do after the former manners: they fear not the LORD, neither do they after their statutes, or after their ordinances, or after the law or after the commandment which the LORD commanded the children of Jacob, whom He named Israel;

¹⁶ But unto the wicked God saith: 'What hast thou to do to declare My statutes, and that thou hast taken My covenant in thy mouth? ¹⁷ Seeing thou hatest instruction, and castest My words behind thee. ¹⁸ When thou sawest a thief, thou hadst company with him, and with adulterers was thy portion. ¹⁹ Thou hast let loose thy mouth for evil, and thy tongue frameth deceit. ²⁰ Thou sittest and speakest against thy brother; thou slanderest thine own mother's son.

¹¹ (63:12) But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that sweareth by Him shall glory; for the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped.

³ Say unto God: 'How tremendous is Thy work! Through the greatness of Thy power shall Thine enemies dwindle away before Thee.

²⁶ (68:27) 'Bless ye God in full assemblies, even the Lord, ye that are from the fountain of Israel.'

¹⁶ Let thy springs be dispersed abroad, and courses of water in the streets.

¹⁰ Hear the word of the LORD, ye rulers of Sodom; give ear unto the law of our God, ye people of Gomorrah. ¹¹ To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto Me? saith the LORD; I am full of the burnt-offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he-goats. ¹² When ye come to appear before Me, who hath required this at your hand, to trample My courts? ¹³ Bring no more vain oblations; it is an offering of abomination unto Me; new moon and sabbath, the holding of convocations - I cannot endure iniquity along with the solemn assembly. ¹⁴ Your new moons and your appointed seasons My soul hateth; they are a burden unto Me; I am weary to bear them.

¹³ O LORD our God, other lords beside Thee have had dominion over us; but by Thee only do we make mention of Thy name.

⁵ One shall say: 'I am the LORD'S'; and another shall call himself by the name of Jacob; and another shall subscribe with his hand unto the LORD, and surname himself by the name of Israel.

²³ By Myself have I sworn, the word is gone forth from My mouth in righteousness, and shall not come back, that unto Me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.

² Yet they seek Me daily, and delight to know My ways; as a nation that did righteousness, and forsook not the ordinance of their God, they ask of Me righteous ordinances, they delight to draw near unto God.

⁸ The LORD hath sworn by His right hand, and by the arm of His strength: Surely I will no more give thy corn to be food for thine enemies; and strangers shall not drink thy wine, for which thou hast laboured;

¹⁶ So that he who blesseth himself in the earth shall bless himself by the God of truth; and he that sweareth in the earth shall swear by the God of truth; because the former troubles are forgotten, and because they are hid from Mine eyes.

² And wilt swear: 'As the LORD liveth' in truth, in justice, and in righteousness; then shall the nations bless themselves by Him, and in Him shall they glory.

² And though they say: 'As the LORD liveth', surely they swear falsely.

⁹ Will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and offer unto Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye have not known, ¹⁰ and come and stand before Me in this house, whereupon My name is called, and say: 'We are delivered', that ye may do all these abominations?

⁵ And them that worship the host of heaven upon the housetops; and them that worship, that swear to the LORD and swear by Malcam;

⁵ And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers; and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and fear not Me, saith the LORD of hosts.

⁸ This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoreth me with their lips, But their heart is far from me. ⁹ But in vain do they worship me, Teaching as their doctrines the precepts of men.

¹³ But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, even while for a pretence ye make long prayers; therefore ye shall receive greater condemnation.

⁴⁷ Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!

²⁴ God is a Spirit; and they that worship him must worship in spirit and truth.

¹⁷ Behold, thou bearest the name of a Jew, and restest upon the law, and gloriest in God,

²⁸ For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, neither is that circumcision which is outward in the flesh: ²⁹ but he is a Jew who is one inwardly, and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit not in the letter, whose praise is not of men, but of God.

⁶ But it is not as though the word of God hath come to nought. For they are not all Israel, that are of Israel:

⁸ That is, it is not the children of the flesh that are children of God, but the children of the promise are reckoned for a seed.

² through the hypocrisy of men that speak lies, branded in their own conscience as with a hot iron,

² For men shall be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, haughty, railers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, ³ without natural affection, implacable, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, no lovers of good, ⁴ traitors, headstrong, puffed up, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, ⁵ holding a form of godliness, but having denied the power thereof; from these also turn away.

⁹ I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty (but thou art rich), and the blasphemy of them that say they are Jews, and they art not, but are a synagogue of Satan.

⁹ Behold, I give of the synagogue of Satan, of them that say they are Jews, and they are not, but do lie, behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.
