¹ And it came to pass, when the kingdom of Rehoboam was established, and he was strong, that he forsook the law of the LORD, and all Israel with him.

¹⁰ And it shall be, when the LORD thy God shall bring thee into the land which He swore unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee - great and goodly cities, which thou didst not build, ¹¹ and houses full of all good things, which thou didst not fill, and cisterns hewn out, which thou the didst not hew, vineyards and olive-trees, which thou didst not plant, and thou shalt eat and be satisfied - ¹² then beware lest thou forget the LORD, who brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

¹⁰ And thou shalt eat and be satisfied, and bless the LORD thy God for the good land which He hath given thee. ¹¹ Beware lest thou forget the LORD thy God, in not keeping His commandments, and His ordinances, and His statutes, which I command thee this day; ¹² lest when thou hast eaten and art satisfied, and hast built goodly houses, and dwelt therein; ¹³ and when thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied, and all that thou hast is multiplied; ¹⁴ then thy heart be lifted up, and thou forget the LORD thy God, who brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage;

¹⁵ But Jeshurun waxed fat, and kicked - thou didst wax fat, thou didst grow thick, thou didst become gross - and he forsook God who made him, and contemned the Rock of his salvation.

¹⁸ Of the Rock that begot thee thou wast unmindful, and didst forget God that bore thee.

⁹ they shall be answered: Because they forsook the LORD their God, who brought forth their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and laid hold on other gods, and worshipped them, and served them; therefore hath the LORD brought all this evil upon them.'

¹⁷ But as for the children of Israel that dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.

²² And Judah did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD; and they moved Him to jealousy with their sins which they committed, above all that their fathers had done. ²³ For they also built them high places, and pillars, and Asherim, on every high hill, and under every leafy tree; ²⁴ and there were also sodomites in the land; they did according to all the abominations of the nations which the LORD drove out before the children of Israel.

¹⁹ Also Judah kept not the commandments of the LORD their God, but walked in the statutes of Israel which they practised.

³ 'Speak unto Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying:

¹⁷ So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong, three years; for they walked three years in the way of David and Solomon.

¹³ So king Rehoboam strengthened himself in Jerusalem, and reigned; for Rehoboam was forty and one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the LORD had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put His name there; and his mother's name was Naamah the Ammonitess.

¹³ And under their hand was a trained army, three hundred thousand and seven thousand and five hundred, that made war with mighty power, to help the king against the enemy. ¹⁴ And Uzziah prepared for them, even for all the host, shields, and spears, and helmets, and coats of mail, and bows, and stones for slinging. ¹⁵ And he made in Jerusalem engines, invented by skilful men, to be on the towers and upon the corners, wherewith to shoot arrows and great stones. And his name spread far abroad; for he was marvellously helped, till he was strong. ¹⁶ But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up so that he did corruptly, and he trespassed against the LORD his God; for he went into the temple of the LORD to burn incense upon the altar of incense.

³¹ O generation, see ye the word of the LORD: have I been a wilderness unto Israel? or a land of thick darkness? Wherefore say My people: 'We roam at large; we will come no more unto Thee'?

¹⁰ The princes of Judah are like them that remove the landmark; I will pour out My wrath upon them like water. ¹¹ Oppressed is Ephraim, crushed in his right; because he willingly walked after filth.

¹ When Ephraim spoke, there was trembling, he exalted himself in Israel; but when he became guilty through Baal, he died.

⁶ When they were fed, they became full, they were filled, and their heart was exalted; therefore have they forgotten Me. ⁷ Therefore am I become unto them as a lion; as a leopard will I watch by the way; ⁸ I will meet them as a bear that is bereaved of her whelps, and will rend the enclosure of their heart; and there will I devour them like a lioness; the wild beast shall tear them.

¹⁶ For the statutes of Omri are kept, and all the works of the house of Ahab, and ye walk in their counsels; that I may make thee an astonishment, and the inhabitants thereof a hissing; and ye shall bear the reproach of My people.
