¹ And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the settlers of Gilead, said unto Ahab: 'As the LORD, the God of Israel, liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.'

⁸ At that time the LORD separated the tribe of Levi, to bear the ark of the covenant of the LORD, to stand before the LORD to minister unto Him, and to bless in His name, unto this day.

⁴ Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim; and the men of Gilead smote Ephraim, because they said: 'Ye are fugitives of Ephraim, ye Gileadites, in the midst of Ephraim, and in the midst of Manasseh.'

¹ And it came to pass after many days, that the word of the LORD came to Elijah, in the third year, saying: 'Go, show thyself unto Ahab, and I will send rain upon the land.'

¹⁰ As the LORD thy God liveth, there is no nation or kingdom, whither my lord hath not sent to seek thee; and when they said: He is not here, he took an oath of the kingdom and nation, that they found thee not.

¹⁵ And Elijah said: 'As the LORD of hosts liveth, before whom I stand, I will surely show myself unto him to-day.'

¹⁴ And Micaiah said: 'As the LORD liveth, what the LORD saith unto me, that will I speak.'

¹⁴ And Elisha said: 'As the LORD of hosts liveth, before whom I stand, surely, were it not that I regard the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look toward thee, nor see thee.

¹⁶ But he said: 'As the LORD liveth, before whom I stand, I will receive none.' And he urged him to take it; but he refused.

¹⁸ Lift up thine eyes round about, and behold: all these gather themselves together, and come to thee. As I live, saith the LORD, thou shalt surely clothe thee with them all as with an ornament, and gird thyself with them, like a bride.

¹⁹ Therefore thus saith the LORD: If thou return, and I bring thee back, thou shalt stand before Me; and if thou bring forth the precious out of the vile, thou shalt be as My mouth; let them return unto thee, but thou shalt not return unto them.

²⁹ for he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

¹⁴ And if ye are willing to receive it, this is Elijah, that is to come.

¹⁴ And they said, Some say John the Baptist, some, Elijah, and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.

⁴⁷ And some of them that stood there, when they heard it, said, This man calleth Elijah.

⁴⁹ And the rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elijah cometh to save him.

¹⁷ And he shall go before his face in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to walk in the wisdom of the just, to make ready for the Lord a people prepared for him.

¹⁹ And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God, and I was sent to speak unto thee, and to bring thee these good tidings.

²⁵ But of a truth I say unto you, There were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when there came a great famine over all the land, ²⁶ and unto none of them was Elijah sent, but only to Zarephath, in the land of Sidon, unto a woman that was a widow.

³⁰ And behold, there talked with him two men, who were Moses and Elijah,

³³ And it came to pass, as they were parting from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here; and let us make three tabernacles, one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah; not knowing what he said.

⁵⁴ And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we bid fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elijah did?

³⁶ But watch ye at every season, making supplication, that ye may be counted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

²¹ And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elijah? And he saith, I am not. Art thou the prophet? And he answered, No.

²⁵ And they asked him, and said unto him, Why then baptizest thou, if thou art not the Christ, neither Elijah, neither the prophet?

²³ For there stood by me this night an angel of the God whose I am, whom also I serve,

² God did not cast off his people which he foreknew. Or know ye not what the scripture saith of Elijah? how he pleadeth with God against Israel:

¹⁷ Elijah was a man of like passions with us, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and it rained not on the earth for three years and six months.

⁶ These have power to shut the heaven, that it rain not during the days of their prophecy; and they have power over the waters to turn them into blood, and to smite the earth with every plague, as often as they shall desire.
