¹ And Jesus, full of the Holy Ghost, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, tempted by the devil forty days.

¹⁶ And Jesus having been baptized, came up straightway from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened and He saw the Spirit of God, descending like a dove, coming on Him.

¹ Then Jesus was led up into the wilderness by the Spirit, to be tempted by the devil. ² And having fasted forty days and forty nights, He afterward hungered. ³ And the tempter having come to Him, said; If thou art the Son of God, speak in order that these stones may become bread. ⁴ And He responding said; It has been written, A man shall not live upon bread alone, but upon every word coming forth through the mouth of God. ⁵ Then the devil takes Him into the holy city and stood Him on the pinnacle of the temple, ⁶ and says to Him; If thou art the Son of God, cast thyself down; for it has been written, That He will give His angels charge concerning thee, and upon their hand they will bear thee, lest thou mayest dash thy foot against a stone. ⁷ Jesus said to him; Again it has been written, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. ⁸ Again the devil takes Him into an exceedingly high mountain, and shows Him all the kingdoms of the world and the glory of the same, ⁹ and said to Him; All these things will I give unto thee, ¹⁰ If having fallen down thou mayest worship me: then Jesus says to him, Get behind me, Satan; for it has been written; Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and Him only shalt thou serve. ¹¹ Then the devil leaveth Him; and behold, the angels came to Him and continued to minister unto Him.

¹² And immediately the Spirit casts Him out into the wilderness. ¹³ And he was in the wilderness forty days being tempted by Satan, and was with the wild beasts; and the angels continued to minister unto Him.

²⁷ And he came in the Spirit into the temple; and while the parents are bringing in the little child Jesus, that they may do according to the provisions of law concerning Him,

³ And he came into all the region round about the Jordan preaching the baptism of repentance unto the remissions of sins,

²¹ And it came to pass while all the people were being baptized, and Jesus having been baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened, ²² and the Holy Spirit in bodily appearance like a dove descended on Him; and there was a voice from heaven, saying; Thou art my beloved Son, I am delighted in Thee.

¹⁴ And Jesus returned in the power of the spirit into Galilee.And the fame concerning Him went throughout the whole country.

¹⁸ The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor: hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim deliverance to the captives, and sight to the blind, and to set at liberty them that are bruised,

³² And John testified saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and remained on Him.

³⁴ For whom God sent speaketh the words of God: for He does not give His spirit by measure.

² from the day on which, having given commandment through the Holy Ghost to the apostles whom He had chosen, He was received up.

³⁹ And when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip; and the eunuch saw him no more: for he went on his way rejoicing.

³⁸ Jesus, the one from Nazareth, how God anointed Him with the Holy Ghost and power: who went about doing good, and healing all oppressed by the devil: because God is with Him.
