And Satan answered the Lord, saying, From compassing the earth to and from, and from walking in it. ⁸ And the Lord saide vnto Satan, Hast thou not considered my seruant Iob, how none is like him in the earth? an vpright and iust man, one that feareth God, and escheweth euill? ⁹ Then Satan answered the Lord, and sayde, Doeth Iob feare God for nought? ¹⁰ Hast thou not made an hedge about him and about his house, and about all that he hath on euery side? thou hast blessed the worke of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land. ¹¹ But stretch out now thine hand and touch all that he hath, to see if he will not blaspheme thee to thy face. ¹² Then the Lord sayde vnto Satan, Lo, all that he hath is in thine hand: onely vpon himselfe shalt thou not stretch out thine hand. So Satan departed from the presence of the Lord. ¹³ And on a day, when his sonnes and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brothers house, ¹⁴ There came a messenger vnto Iob, and said, The oxen were plowing, and the asses feeding in their places, ¹⁵ And the Shabeans came violently, and tooke them: yea, they haue slayne the seruants with the edge of the sworde: but I onely am escaped alone to tell thee. ¹⁶ And whiles he was yet speaking, another came, and sayde, The fire of God is fallen from the heauen, and hath burnt vp the sheepe and the seruants, and deuoured them: but I onely am escaped alone to tell thee. ¹⁷ And whiles he was yet speaking, another came, and sayd, The Caldeans set on three bands, and fell vpon the camels, and haue taken them, and haue slayne the seruantes with the edge of the sworde: but I onely am escaped alone to tell thee. ¹⁸ And whiles he was yet speaking, came an other, and sayd, Thy sonnes, and thy daughters were eating, and drinking wine in their eldest brothers house, ¹⁹ And behold, there came a great wind from beyonde the wildernesse, and smote the foure corners of the house, which fel vpon the children, and they are dead, and I onely am escaped alone to tell thee. ²⁰ Then Iob arose, and rent his garment, and shaued his head, and fel downe vpon the ground, and worshipped, ²¹ And sayd, Naked came I out of my mothers wombe, and naked shall I returne thither: the Lord hath giuen, and the Lord hath taken it: blessed be the Name of the Lord. ²² In all this did not Iob sinne, nor charge God foolishly.

¹⁹ In the sweate of thy face shalt thou eate bread, till thou returne to the earth: for out of it wast thou taken, because thou art dust, and to dust shalt thou returne.

² Then the sonnes of God sawe the daughters of men that they were faire, and they tooke them wiues of all that they liked.

⁶ Then Abram saide to Sarai, Beholde, thy maide is in thine hand: doe with her as it pleaseth thee. Then Sarai dealt roughly with her: wherefore she fled from her.

² Then saide Iaakob vnto his houshold and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and clense your selues, and change your garments: ³ For we will rise and goe vp to Beth-el, and I will make an altar there vnto God, which heard me in the day of my tribulation, and was with me in the way which I went.

⁵ Nowe therefore be not sad, neither grieued with your selues, that ye sold me hither: for God did send me before you for your preseruation.

¹² Then Iethro Moses father in lawe tooke burnt offerings and sacrifices to offer vnto God. And Aaron and all the Elders of Israel came to eat bread with Moses father in law before God.

²¹ Moreouer, prouide thou among al the people men of courage, fearing God, men dealing truely, hating couetousnesse: and appoynt such ouer them to be rulers ouer thousandes, rulers ouer hundreths, rulers ouer fifties, and rulers ouer tennes.

¹⁰ Moreouer, the Lord sayd vnto Moses, Goe to the people, and sanctifie them to day and to morow, and let them wash their clothes.

⁵ And he sent young men of the children of Israel, which offered burnt offrings of bieues, and sacrificed peace offrings vnto the Lord.

³ If his sacrifice be a burnt offering of the heard, he shall offer a male without blemish, presenting him of his owne voluntarie will at the doore of the Tabernacle of the Congregation before the Lord. ⁴ And he shall put his hande vpon the head of the burnt offering, and it shalbe accepted to the Lord, to be his atonement. ⁵ And he shall kill the bullocke before the Lord, and the Priestes Aarons sonnes shall offer the blood, and shall sprinckle it round about vpon the altar, that is by the doore of the Tabernacle of the Congregation. ⁶ Then shall he fley the burnt offering, and cut it in pieces.

²⁴ And there came a fire out from the Lord and consumed vpon the Altar the burnt offring and the fatte: which when all the people sawe, they gaue thankes, and fell on their faces.

² Therefore a fire went out from the Lord, and deuoured them: so they dyed before the Lord.

¹⁰ And there went out among the children of Israel the sonne of an Israelitish woman, whose father was an Egyptian: and this sonne of the Israelitish woman, and a man of Israel stroue together in the hoste. ¹¹ So the Israelitish womans sonne blasphemed the name of the Lord, and cursed, and they brought him vnto Moses (his mothers name also was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan) ¹² And they put him in warde, till he tolde them the minde of the Lord. ¹³ Then the Lord spake vnto Moses, saying, ¹⁴ Bring the blasphemer without the hoste, and let all that heard him, put their handes vpon his head, and let all the Congregation stone him. ¹⁵ And thou shalt speake vnto the children of Israel, saying, Whosoeuer curseth his God, shall beare his sinne. ¹⁶ And he that blasphemeth the name of the Lord, shalbe put to death: all the Congregation shall stone him to death: aswell the stranger, as he that is borne in the lande: when he blasphemeth the name of the Lord, let him beslaine.

¹ When the people became murmurers, it displeased the Lord: and the Lord heard it, therefore his wrath was kindled, and the fire of the Lord burnt among them, and consumed the vtmost parte of the hoste. ² Then the people cryed vnto Moses: and when Moses praied vnto the Lord, the fire was quenched. ³ And he called the name of that place Taberah, because the fire of the Lord burnt among them.

³ (But Moses was a verie meeke man, aboue all the men that were vpon the earth)

⁷ My seruant Moses is not so, who is faithfull in all mine house. ⁸ Vnto him will I speake mouth to mouth, and by vision, and not in darke wordes, but hee shall see the similitude of the Lord. Wherefore then were ye not afraid to speake against my seruant, euen against Moses?

⁷ Then he vttered his parable, and sayde, Balak the king of Moab hath brought mee from Aram out of the mountaines of the East, saying, Come, curse Iaakob for my sake: come, and detest Israel.

³² And the bootie, to wit, the rest of the praie which the men of warre had spoyled, was sixe hundreth seuentie and fiue thousand sheepe, ³³ And seuentie and two thousand beeues, ³⁴ And three score and one thousand asses,

¹³ And he wil loue thee, and blesse thee, and multiplie thee: he will also blesse the fruite of thy wombe, and the fruite of thy land, thy corne and thy wine, and thine oyle and the increase of thy kine, and the flockes of thy sheepe in the land, which he sware vnto thy fathers to giue thee.

¹⁸ And I fell downe before the Lord, fourtie dayes, and fourtie nightes, as before: I neither ate bread nor dranke water, because of al your sinnes, which ye had committed, in doing wickedly in the sight of the Lord, in that ye prouoked him vnto wrath.

² And all these blessings shall come on thee, and ouertake thee, if thou shalt obey the voyce of the Lord thy God. ³ Blessed shalt thou be in the citie, and blessed also in the fielde. ⁴ Blessed shalbe the fruite of thy body, and ye fruite of thy ground, and the fruite of thy cattel, the increase of thy kine, and ye flocks of thy sheepe. ⁵ Blessed shalbe thy basket and thy dough. ⁶ Blessed shalt thou be, whe thou commest in, and blessed also when thou goest out.

¹¹ Blesse, O Lord, his substance, and accept the worke of his handes: smite through ye loynes of them that rise against him, and of them that hate him, that they rise not againe.

²⁷ The eternall God is thy refuge, and vnder his armes thou art for euer: hee shall cast out the enemie before thee, and will say, Destroy them.

⁷ Onely be thou strong, and of a most valiant courage, that thou mayest obserue and doe according to all the Lawe which Moses my seruant hath commanded thee: thou shalt not turne away from it to the right hande, nor to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoeuer thou goest.

²⁸ Now had Absalom commanded his seruants, saying, Marke now when Amnons heart is merry with wine, and when I say vnto you, Smite Amnon, kill him, feare not, for haue not I commanded you? be bold therefore, and play the men.

¹⁹ And behold, there came a great wind from beyonde the wildernesse, and smote the foure corners of the house, which fel vpon the children, and they are dead, and I onely am escaped alone to tell thee.

²¹ And sayd, Naked came I out of my mothers wombe, and naked shall I returne thither: the Lord hath giuen, and the Lord hath taken it: blessed be the Name of the Lord.

And Satan answered the Lord, and sayd, From compassing the earth to and from, and from walking in it. ³ And the Lord sayd vnto Satan, Hast thou not considered my seruant Iob, how none is like him in the earth? an vpright and iust man, one that feareth God, and escheweth euill? for yet he continueth in his vprightnesse, although thou mouedst me against him, to destroy him without cause. ⁴ And Satan answered the Lord, and sayde, Skin for skin, and all that euer a man hath, will he giue for his life. ⁵ But stretch now out thine hand, and touch his bones and his flesh, to see if he will not blaspheme thee to thy face.

⁵ But now it is come vpon thee, and thou art grieued: it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled.

² Oh that my griefe were well weighed, and my miseries were layed together in the balance. ³ For it woulde be nowe heauier then the sande of the sea: therefore my wordes are swallowed vp.

⁴ If thy sonnes haue sinned against him, and he hath sent them into the place of their iniquitie,

⁸ The righteous shalbe astonied at this, and the innocent shalbe moued against ye hypocrite. ⁹ But the righteous wil holde his way, and he whose hands are pure, shall increase his strength.

⁹ Hee hath spoyled mee of mine honour, and taken the crowne away from mine head. ¹⁰ He hath destroyed mee on euery side and I am gone: and he hath remoued mine hope like a tree.

²¹ Haue pitie vpon me: haue pitie vpon me, (O yee my friendes) for the hande of God hath touched me.

² Though my talke be this day in bitternes, and my plague greater then my groning,

¹¹ My foote hath followed his steps: his way haue I kept, and haue not declined. ¹² Neyther haue I departed from the commandement of his lippes, and I haue esteemed the words of his mouth more then mine appointed foode.

²⁸ And vnto man he said, Behold, the feare of the Lord is wisedome, and to depart from euil is vnderstanding.

⁶ When I washed my pathes with butter, and when the rocke powred me out riuers of oyle:

⁹ The princes stayed talke, and layde their hand on their mouth. ¹⁰ The voyce of princes was hidde, and their tongue cleaued to the roofe of their mouth.

²⁵ I appoynted out their way, and did sit as chiefe, and dwelt as a King in the army, and like him that comforteth the mourners.

¹ I made a couenant with mine eyes: why then should I thinke on a mayde? ² For what portion should I haue of God from aboue? and what inheritance of the Almightie from on hie? ³ Is not destruction to the wicked and strange punishment to the workers of iniquitie? ⁴ Doeth not he beholde my wayes and tell all my steps? ⁵ If I haue walked in vanitie, or if my foote hath made haste to deceite, ⁶ Let God weigh me in the iust balance, and he shall know mine vprightnes. ⁷ If my steppe hath turned out of the way, or mine heart hath walked after mine eye, or if any blot hath cleaued to mine handes, ⁸ Let me sowe, and let another eate: yea, let my plantes be rooted out. ⁹ If mine heart hath bene deceiued by a woman, or if I haue layde wayte at the doore of my neighbour, ¹⁰ Let my wife grinde vnto another man, and let other men bow downe vpon her: ¹¹ For this is a wickednes, and iniquitie to bee condemned: ¹² Yea, this is a fire that shall deuoure to destruction, and which shall roote out al mine increase, ¹³ If I did contemne the iudgement of my seruant, and of my mayde, when they did contend with me, ¹⁴ What then shall I do when God standeth vp? and when he shall visit me, what shall I answere? ¹⁵ He that hath made me in the wombe, hath he not made him? hath not he alone facioned vs in the wombe? ¹⁶ If I restrained the poore of their desire, or haue caused the eyes of the widow to faile, ¹⁷ Or haue eaten my morsels alone, and the fatherles hath not eaten thereof, ¹⁸ (For from my youth hee hath growen vp with me as with a father, and from my mothers wombe I haue bene a guide vnto her) ¹⁹ If I haue seene any perish for want of clothing, or any poore without couering, ²⁰ If his loynes haue not blessed me, because he was warmed with the fleece of my sheepe, ²¹ If I haue lift vp mine hande against the fatherlesse, when I saw that I might helpe him in the gate, ²² Let mine arme fal from my shoulder, and mine arme be broken from the bone. ²³ For Gods punishment was fearefull vnto me, and I could not be deliuered from his highnes. ²⁴ If I made gold mine hope, or haue sayd to the wedge of golde, Thou art my confidence, ²⁵ If I reioyced because my substance was great, or because mine hand had gotten much,

¹⁰ Therefore hearken vnto me, ye men of wisedome, God forbid that wickednesse should be in God, and iniquitie in the Almightie.

¹⁴ If he set his heart vpon man, and gather vnto him selfe his spirit and his breath,

¹⁸ Wilt thou say vnto a King, Thou art wicked? or to princes, Ye are vngodly? ¹⁹ How much lesse to him that accepteth not the persons of princes, and regardeth not the rich, more then the poore? for they be all the worke of his handes.

⁷ When the starres of the morning praysed me together, and all the children of God reioyced:

⁴ Or hast thou an arme like God? or doest thou thunder with a voyce like him? ⁵ Decke thy selfe now with maiestie and excellencie, and aray thy selfe with beautie and glory. ⁶ Cast abroad the indignation of thy wrath, and beholde euery one that is proude, and abase him. ⁷ Looke on euery one that is arrogant, and bring him lowe: and destroy the wicked in their place. ⁸ Hide them in the dust together, and binde their faces in a secret place.

³⁸ But thou hast reiected and abhorred, thou hast bene angry with thine Anoynted. ³⁹ Thou hast broken the couenant of thy seruant, and profaned his crowne, casting it on the ground. ⁴⁰ Thou hast broken downe all his walles: thou hast layd his fortresses in ruine. ⁴¹ All that goe by the way, spoyle him: he is a rebuke vnto his neighbours. ⁴² Thou hast set vp the right hand of his enemies, and made all his aduersaries to reioyce. ⁴³ Thou hast also turned the edge of his sworde, and hast not made him to stand in the battell. ⁴⁴ Thou hast caused his dignitie to decay, and cast his throne to the ground. ⁴⁵ The dayes of his youth hast thou shortned, and couered him with shame. ¹⁷ And let the beautie of the Lord our God be vpon vs, and direct thou the worke of our hands vpon vs, euen direct the worke of our handes.

²⁰ Prayse the Lord, ye his Angels, that excell in strength, that doe his commandement in obeying the voyce of his worde.

³⁸ For he blesseth them, and they multiplie exceedingly, and he diminisheth not their cattell.

¹ Behold, my seruaunt: I will stay vpon him: mine elect, in whom my soule deliteth: I haue put my Spirit vpon him: he shall bring forth iudgement to the Gentiles.

²⁴ Who gaue Iaakob for a spoyle, and Israel to the robbers? Did not ye Lord, because we haue sinned against him? for they woulde not walke in his waies, neither be obedient vnto his Lawe.

⁷ I forme the light and create darkenes: I make peace and create euill: I the Lord doe all these things.

¹⁴ Thus sayth the Lord, The labour of Egypt, and the marchandise of Ethiopia, and of the Sabeans, men of stature shall come vnto thee, and they shall be thine: they shall follow thee, and shall goe in chaines: they shall fall downe before thee, and make supplication vnto thee, saying, Surely God is in thee, and there is none other God besides.

¹¹ At that time shall it bee saide to this people and to Ierusalem, A dry winde in the hie places of the wildernes commeth towarde ye daughter of my people, but neither to fanne nor to clense. ¹² A mightie winde shall come vnto me from those places, and nowe will I also giue sentence vpon them.

¹⁴ O Ierusalem, wash thine heart from wickednes, that thou maiest be saued: how long shall thy wicked thoughtes remaine within thee?

⁹ The heart is deceitfull and wicked aboue all things, who can knowe it? ¹⁰ I the Lord search the heart, and try ye reines, euen to giue euery man according to his wayes, and according to the fruite of his workes.

²⁰ And all sortes of people, and all the Kings of the lande of Vz: and all the Kings of the lande of the Philistims, and Ashkelon, and Azzah, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod:

⁵ Then Zedekiah the King sayd, Behold, he is in your hands, for ye King can denie you nothing.

³¹ A post shall runne to meete the post, and a messenger to meete the messenger, to shew the King of Babel, that his citie is taken on a side thereof,

¹² Haue ye no regarde, all yee that passe by this way? behold, and see, if there be any sorowe like vnto my sorowe, which is done vnto mee, wherewith the Lord hath afflicted me in the day of his fierce wrath.

³⁸ Out of the mouth of the most high proceedeth not euill and good?

²¹ Reioyce and be glad, O daughter Edom, that dwellest in the lande of Vz, the cuppe also shall passe through vnto thee: thou shalt be drunken and vomit.

²⁵ And he answered, and said, Loe, I see foure men loose, walking in the middes of the fire, and they haue no hurt, and the forme of the fourth is like the sonne of God.

⁸ And I will send your sonnes and your daughters into the hande of the children of Iudah, and they shall sell them to the Sabeans, to a people farre off: for the Lord hath spoken it.

⁶ And therefore haue I giuen you cleannes of teeth in all your cities, and scarcenesse of bread in all your places, yet haue ye not returned vnto me, saith the Lord. ⁷ And also I haue withholden the raine from you, when there were yet three moneths to the haruest, and I caused it to raine vpon one citie, and haue not caused it to raine vpon another citie: one piece was rained vpon, and the piece whereupon it rained not, withered. ⁸ So two or three cities wandred vnto one citie to drinke water, but they were not satisfied: yet haue ye not returned vnto me, saith the Lord. ⁹ I haue smitten you with blasting, and mildewe: your great gardens and your vineyardes, and your figtrees, and your oliue trees did the palmer worme deuoure: yet haue ye not returned vnto me, saith the Lord. ¹⁰ Pestilence haue I sent among you, after the maner of Egypt: your yong men haue I slaine with the sworde, and haue taken away your horses: and I haue made the stinke of your tentes to come vp euen into your nostrels: yet haue yee not returned vnto me, saith the Lord. ¹¹ I haue ouerthrowe you, as God ouerthrew Sodom and Gomorah: and ye were as a firebrand pluckt out of the burning: yet haue ye not returned vnto me, saith the Lord.

⁴ Thus also hath the Lord God shewed vnto me, and behold, the Lord God called to iudgement by fire, and it deuoured the great deepe, and did eate vp a part.

⁶ For lo, I raise vp the Caldeans, that bitter and furious nation, which shall goe vpon the breadth of the lande to possesse the dwelling places, that are not theirs.

⁴³ Nowe when the vncleane spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh throughout drie places, seeking rest, and findeth none.

²⁶ For what shall it profite a man though he should winne the whole worlde, if hee lose his owne soule? or what shall a man giue for recompence of his soule?

¹⁰ See that ye despise not one of these litle ones: for I say vnto you, that in heauen their Angels alwayes behold the face of my Father which is in heauen.

¹⁵ Is it not lawfull for me to do as I will with mine owne? Is thine eye euil, because I am good?

³⁹ So hee went a litle further, and fell on his face, and praied, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup passe from me: neuerthelesse, not as I will, but as thou wilt.

²¹ For from within, euen out of the heart of men, proceede euill thoughtes, adulteries, fornications, murthers, ²² Theftes, couetousnes, wickednes, deceite, vncleannes, a wicked eye, backbiting, pride, foolishnesse. ²³ All these euill things come from within, and defile a man.

⁶ Both were iust before God, and walked in all the commandements and ordinances of the Lord, without reproofe.

³² And there was there by, an hearde of many swine, feeding on an hill: and the deuils besought him, that he would suffer them to enter into them. So he suffered them. ³³ Then went the deuils out of the man, and entred into the swine: and the hearde was caried with violence from a steepe downe place into the lake, and was choked.

¹⁹ And I wil say to my soule, Soule, thou hast much goods laide vp for many yeeres: liue at ease, eate, drinke and take thy pastime. ²⁰ But God said vnto him, O foole, this night wil they fetch away thy soule from thee: then whose shall those things be which thou hast prouided?

⁷ Now shall not God auenge his elect, which cry day and night vnto him, yea, though he suffer long for them?

³⁴ Take heede to your selues, lest at any time your hearts be oppressed with surfeting and drunkennesse, and cares of this life, and least that day come on you at vnwares.

⁴⁷ Iesus sawe Nathanael comming to him, and saide of him, Beholde in deede an Israelite, in whom is no guile.

³⁵ The Father loueth the Sonne, and hath giuen all things into his hande. ³⁶ Hee that beleeueth in the Sonne, hath euerlasting life, and hee that obeyeth not the Sonne, shall not see life, but the wrath of God abideth on him.

⁷⁰ Iesus answered them, Haue not I chosen you twelue, and one of you is a deuill?

⁵⁵ And the Iewes Passeouer was at hande, and many went out of the countrey vp to Hierusalem before the Passeouer, to purifie themselues.

¹³ There hath no tentation taken you, but such as appertaine to man: and God is faithfull, which will not suffer you to be tempted aboue that you be able, but wil euen giue the issue with the tentation, that ye may be able to beare it.

² For I am ielous ouer you, with godly ielousie: for I haue prepared you for one husband, to present you as a pure virgine to Christ:

⁷ And lest I should be exalted out of measure through the aboundance of reuelations, there was giuen vnto me a pricke in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet mee, because I should not be exalted out of measure.

² Wherein, in times past ye walked, according to the course of this world, and after the prince that ruleth in the aire, euen the spirite, that nowe worketh in the children of disobedience,

²⁰ Giuing thankes alwaies for all thinges vnto God euen the Father, in the Name of our Lord Iesus Christ,

¹⁸ And pray alwayes with all maner prayer and supplication in the Spirit: and watch thereunto with all perseuerance and supplication for al Saints,

¹ Let brotherly loue continue.

⁴ And let patience haue her perfect worke, that ye may be perfect and entier, lacking nothing.

¹² Blessed is ye man, that endureth tentation: for when he is tried, hee shall receiue the crowne of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that loue him.

¹⁷ Euery good giuing, and euery perfect gift is from aboue, and commeth downe from the Father of lights, with whome is no variablenes, neither shadow of turning.

¹¹ Beholde, we count them blessed which endure. Ye haue heard of the patience of Iob, and haue knowen what ende the Lord made. For the Lord is very pitifull and mercifull.

⁵ Which are kept by the power of God through faith vnto saluation, which is prepared to be shewed in the last time.

⁷ That the triall of your faith, being much more precious then golde that perisheth (though it be tried with fire) might bee founde vnto your praise, and honour and glorie at the appearing of Iesus Christ:

¹¹ Let him eschew euil, and do good: let him seeke peace, and follow after it.

⁶ Humble your selues therefore vnder the mightie hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time.

⁸ Be sober, and watch: for your aduersarie the deuil as a roaring lyon walketh about, seeking whom he may deuoure:
