⁶ For whom the Lord loueth, he chasteneth: and he scourgeth euery sonne that he receiueth:

⁵ Knowe therefore in thine heart, that as a man nourtereth his sonne, so the Lord thy God nourtereth thee.

¹⁴ I will be his father, and hee shall bee my sonne: and if he sinne, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the plagues of the children of men.

¹ A Psalme of David to give instruction. Blessed is he whose wickednes is forgiuen, and whose sinne is couered. ² Blessed is the man, vnto whom the Lord imputeth not iniquitie, and in whose spirite there is no guile. ³ When I helde my tongue, my bones consumed, or when I roared all the day, ⁴ (For thine hand is heauie vpon me, day and night: and my moysture is turned into ye drought of summer. Selah) ⁵ Then I acknowledged my sinne vnto thee, neither hid I mine iniquitie: for I thought, I will confesse against my selfe my wickednesse vnto the Lord, and thou forgauest the punishment of my sinne. Selah.

¹⁴ For dayly haue I bene punished, and chastened euery morning. ¹⁵ If I say, I will iudge thus, beholde the generation of thy children: I haue trespassed.

³⁰ But if his children forsake my Lawe, and walke not in my iudgements: ³¹ If they breake my statutes, and keepe not my commandements: ³² Then will I visite their transgression with the rod, and their iniquitie with strokes. ³³ Yet my louing kindnesse will I not take from him, neither will I falsifie my trueth. ³⁴ My couenant wil I not breake, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.

¹² Blessed is the man, whom thou chastisest, O Lord, and teachest him in thy Lawe,

⁷¹ It is good for me that I haue beene afflicted, that I may learne thy statutes.

⁷⁵ I knowe, O Lord, that thy iudgements are right, and that thou hast afflicted me iustly.

¹² For the Lord correcteth him, whome he loueth, euen as the father doeth the childe in whom he deliteth.

²⁴ He that spareth his rodde, hateth his sonne: but he that loueth him, chasteneth him betime.

⁹ By this therefore shall the iniquitie of Iaakob be purged, and this is all the fruit, the taking away of his sinne: whe he shall make all the stones of the altars, as chalke stones broken in pieces, that the groues and images may not stand vp.

²⁴ O Lord, correct mee, but with iudgement, not in thine anger, least thou bring mee to nothing.

⁷ If ye endure chastening, God offereth him selfe vnto you as vnto sonnes: for what sonne is it whom the father chasteneth not? ⁸ If therefore ye be without correction, whereof al are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sonnes.

¹² Blessed is ye man, that endureth tentation: for when he is tried, hee shall receiue the crowne of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that loue him.

¹¹ Beholde, we count them blessed which endure. Ye haue heard of the patience of Iob, and haue knowen what ende the Lord made. For the Lord is very pitifull and mercifull.

¹⁹ As many as I loue, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore and amend.
