² Then if so be the wicked be worthy to bee beaten, the iudge shall cause him to lie downe, and to be beaten before his face, according to his trespasse, vnto a certaine nomber.

¹⁷ But beware of men, for they will deliuer you vp to the Councils, and will scourge you in their Synagogues.

²⁶ Thus let he Barabbas loose vnto them, and scourged Iesus, and deliuered him to be crucified.

⁴⁷ And that seruant that knewe his masters will, and prepared not himselfe, neither did according to his will, shalbe beaten with many stripes. ⁴⁸ But he that knewe it not, and yet did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with fewe stripes: for vnto whomsoeuer much is giuen, of him shalbe much required, and to whom men much commit, the more of him will they aske.

⁴⁰ And to him they agreed, and called the Apostles: and when they had beaten them, they commanded that they should not speake in the Name of Iesus, and let them goe.

²² The people also rose vp together against them, and the gouernours rent their clothes, and commanded them to be beaten with roddes. ²³ And when they had beaten them sore, they cast them into prison, commaunding the Iayler to keepe them surely. ²⁴ Who hauing receiued such commandement, cast them into the inner prison, and made their feete fast in the stockes.

²⁰ For what praise is it, if when ye be buffeted for your faultes, yee take it paciently? but and if when ye doe well, ye suffer wrong and take it paciently, this is acceptable to God.

²⁴ Who his owne selfe bare our sinnes in his body on the tree, that we being dead to sinne, should liue in righteousnesse: by whose stripes ye were healed.
