So Dauid went his way, and Saul returned to his place.

¹⁴ But the Spirite of the Lord departed from Saul, and an euill spirite sent of the Lord vexed him. ¹⁵ And Sauls seruants said vnto him, Beholde nowe, the euill spirite of God vexeth thee. ¹⁶ Let our Lord therefore command thy seruants, that are before thee, to seeke a man that is a cunning plaier vpon the harpe: that when the euil spirit of God commeth vpon thee, hee may play with his hand, and thou maiest be eased. ¹⁷ Saul then saide vnto his seruantes, Prouide me a man, I pray you, that can play well, and bring him to me. ¹⁸ Then answered one of his seruauntes, and sayde, Beholde, I haue seene a sonne of Ishai, a Bethlehemite, that can plaie, and is strong, valiant and a man of warre and wise in matters, and a comely person, and the Lord is with him. ¹⁹ Wherefore Saul sent messengers vnto Ishai, and said, Send me Dauid thy sonne which is with the sheepe. ²⁰ And Ishai tooke an asse laden with breade and a flagon of wine and a kidde, and sent them by the hand of Dauid his sonne vnto Saul. ²¹ And Dauid came to Saul, and stoode before him: and he loued him verie well, and he was his armour bearer. ²² And Saul sent to Ishai, saying, Let Dauid nowe remaine with me: for he hath found fauour in my sight. ²³ And so when the euil spirite of God came vpon Saul, Dauid tooke an harpe and plaied with his hande, and Saul was refreshed, and was eased: for the euill spirit departed from him.

²⁰ So Dauid rose vp earely in the morning, and left the sheepe with a keeper, and tooke and went as Ishai had commanded him, and came within the compasse of the hoste: and the hoste went out in araie, and shouted in the battell.

²⁹ Then Dauid sayde, What haue I nowe done? Is there not a cause?

⁵⁵ When Saul sawe Dauid go forth against the Philistim, he sayd vnto Abner the captaine of his hoste, Abner, whose sonne is this yong man? and Abner answered, As thy soule liueth, O King, I can not tell.

³⁰ And when the Princes of the Philistims went forth, at their going forth Dauid behaued himselfe more wisely then all the seruants of Saul, so that his name was much set by.

³¹ For as long as the sonne of Ishai liueth vpon the earth, thou shalt not be stablished, nor thy kingdome: wherefore now send and fet him vnto me, for he shall surely die.

²³ See therefore and know all the secret places where he hideth himselfe, and come ye againe to me with the certaintie, and I will goe with you: and if he be in the lande, I will searche him out throughout all the thousands of Iudah. ²⁴ Then they arose and went to Ziph before Saul, but Dauid and his men were in the wildernesse of Maon, in the playne on the right hande of Ieshimon. ²⁵ Saul also and his men went to seeke him, and they told Dauid: wherefore he came downe vnto a rocke, and abode in the wildernesse of Maon. And when Saul heard that, he folowed after Dauid in the wildernes of Maon.

² When Saul was turned from ye Philistims, they told him, saying, Behold, Dauid is in the wildernes of En-gedi.

²⁷ And when Abner was come againe to Hebron, Ioab tooke him aside in the gate to speake with him peaceably, and smote him vnder the fift ryb, that he dyed, for the blood of Asahel his brother.

³³ And the King lamented ouer Abner, and sayde, Dyed Abner as a foole dyeth? ³⁴ Thine handes were not bounde, nor thy feete tyed in fetters of brasse: but as a man falleth before wicked men, so diddest thou fall. And all the people wept againe for him. ³⁵ Afterwarde all the people came to cause Dauid eate meate while it was yet day, but Dauid sware, saying, So doe God to me and more also, if I taste bread, or ought els till the sunne be downe. ³⁶ And all the people knewe it, and it pleased them: as whatsoeuer the King did, pleased all the people. ³⁷ For all the people and all Israel vnderstoode that day, howe that it was not the Kings deede that Abner the sonne of Ner was slaine. ³⁸ And the King said vnto his seruants, Know ye not, that there is a prince and a great man falle this day in Israel?

Suffer him to curse: for the Lord hath bidden him.

³ O Lord my God, if I haue done this thing, if there be any wickednes in mine handes, ⁴ If I haue rewarded euill vnto him that had peace with mee, (yea I haue deliuered him that vexed me without cause) ⁵ Then let the enemie persecute my soule and take it: yea, let him treade my life downe vpon the earth, and lay mine honour in the dust. Selah.

⁸ The Lord shall iudge the people: Iudge thou me, O Lord, according to my righteousnesse, and according to mine innocencie, that is in mee. ⁹ Oh let the malice of the wicked come to an ende: but guide thou the iust: for the righteous God trieth the hearts and reines.

¹ To him that excelleth. A Psalme of Dauid the seruant of the Lord, which spake unto the Lord the wordes of this song (in the day that the Lord delivered him for the hande of all this enemies, and form the and of saul) and sayd, I will loue thee dearely, O Lord my strength.

⁷ For without cause they haue hid the pit and their net for me: without cause haue they digged a pit for my soule.

¹⁰ Therefore yet a litle while, and the wicked shall not appeare, and thou shalt looke after his place, and he shall not be found.

¹³ But the Lord shall laugh him to scorne: for he seeth, that his day is comming.

¹² They also, that seeke after my life, laye snares, and they that go about to do me euil, talke wicked things and imagine deceite continually.

¹ To him that excelleth. A Psalme to give instruction, committed to the sonnes of Korah. As the harte brayeth for the riuers of water, so panteth my soule after thee, O God. ² My soule thirsteth for God, euen for the liuing God: when shall I come and appeare before the presence of God?

¹¹ Let the sighing of the prisoners come before thee: according to thy mightie arme preserue the children of death,

²³ And hee will recompence them their wickednes, and destroy them in their owne malice: yea, the Lord our God shall destroy them.

²⁰ That he might heare the mourning of the prisoner, and deliuer the children of death:

¹⁵ Touche not mine anointed, and doe my Prophets no harme.

¹⁵ Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his Saintes.

¹ ALEPH. Blessed are those that are vpright in their way, and walke in the Lawe of the Lord. ² Blessed are they that keepe his testimonies, and seeke him with their whole heart. ³ Surely they woorke none iniquitie, but walke in his waies. ⁴ Thou hast commanded to keepe thy precepts diligently. ⁵ Oh that my waies were directed to keepe thy statutes! ⁶ Then should I not be confounded, when I haue respect vnto all thy commandements. ⁷ I will praise thee with an vpright heart, when I shall learne the iudgements of thy righteousnesse. ⁸ I will keepe thy statutes: forsake mee not ouerlong.

⁴ Keepe mee, O Lord, from the handes of the wicked: preserue mee from the cruell man, which purposeth to cause my steppes to slide. ⁵ The proude haue layde a snare for me, and spred a nette with cordes in my pathway, and set grennes for me. Selah. ⁶ Therefore I saide vnto the Lord, Thou art my God: heare, O Lord, the voyce of my prayers. ⁷ O Lord God the strength of my saluation, thou hast couered mine head in the day of battel. ⁸ Let not the wicked haue his desire, O Lord: performe not his wicked thought, least they be proude. Selah. ⁹ As for the chiefe of them, that compasse me about, let the mischiefe of their owne lippes come vpon them.

¹⁶ These sixe things doeth the Lord hate: yea, his soule abhorreth seuen: ¹⁷ The hautie eyes, a lying tongue, and the hands that shed innocent blood, ¹⁸ An heart that imagineth wicked enterprises, feete that be swift in running to mischiefe, ¹⁹ A false witnesse that speaketh lyes, and him that rayseth vp contentions among brethren.

²⁵ Though he speake fauourably, beleeue him not: for there are seuen abominations in his heart.

¹⁰ Accuse not a seruant vnto his master, lest he curse thee, when thou hast offended.

² A time to bee borne, and a time to die: a time to plant, and a time to plucke vp that which is planted.

¹⁰ For the Lord hath couered you with a spirite of slumber, and hath shut vp your eyes: the Prophets, and your chiefe Seers hath he couered.

¹⁷ But all the weapons that are made against thee, shall not prosper: and euery tongue that shall rise against thee in iudgement, thou shalt condemne. This is the heritage of the Lords seruants, and their righteousnesse is of me, sayth the Lord.

⁵ Then thou shalt see and shine: thine heart shall be astonied and enlarged, because the multitude of the sea shalbe conuerted vnto thee, and the riches of the Gentiles shall come vnto thee.

⁴ And had power ouer the Angel, and preuailed: he wept and praied vnto him: he founde him in Beth-el, and there he spake with vs.

⁹ What doe ye imagine against the Lord? he wil make an vtter destruction: affliction shall not rise vp the seconde time.

⁷ Blessed are the mercifull: for they shall obteine mercie.

² Eor with what iudgement ye iudge, ye shall be iudged, and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you againe.

¹⁶ Behold, I send you as sheepe in the middes of the wolues: be yee therefore wise as serpents, and innocent as doues.

⁴⁷ And while hee yet spake, loe Iudas, one of the twelue, came, and with him a great multitude with swordes and staues, from the high Priests and Elders of the people.

⁵⁵ The same houre sayde Iesus to the multitude, Ye be come out as it were against a thiefe, with swordes and staues to take mee: I sate daily teaching in the Temple among you, and yee tooke me not.

⁴ Saying, I haue sinned, betraying the innocent bloud. But they sayde, What is that to vs? see thou to it.

⁷ Now shall not God auenge his elect, which cry day and night vnto him, yea, though he suffer long for them?

⁴⁶ Which of you can rebuke me of sinne? and if I say the trueth, why do ye not beleeue me?

³² Iesus answered them, Many good workes haue I shewed you from my Father: for which of these workes doe ye stone me?

²³ Iesus answered him, If I haue euill spoken, beare witnes of the euil: but if I haue well spoken, why smitest thou me?

²² Confirming the disciples hearts, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, affirming that we must through many afflictions enter into the kingdome of God.

³⁵ Who shall separate vs from the loue of Christ? shall tribulation or anguish, or persecution, or famine, or nakednesse, or perill, or sworde?

³⁷ Neuerthelesse, in all these thinges we are more then coquerours through him that loued vs.

³² For God hath shut vp all in vnbeliefe, that he might haue mercie on all.

¹⁹ Dearely beloued, auenge not your selues, but giue place vnto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine: I will repay, saith the Lord.

¹⁵ But if thy brother be grieued for the meate, nowe walkest thou not charitably: destroy not him with thy meate, for whome Christ dyed.

⁹ Yea, we receiued the sentence of death in our selues, because we shoulde not trust in our selues, but in God, which rayseth the dead. ¹⁰ Who deliuered vs from so great a death, and doeth deliuer vs: in whom we trust, that yet hereafter he will deliuer vs,

⁸ But though that we, or an Angel from heauen preach vnto you otherwise, then that which we haue preached vnto you, let him be accursed. ⁹ As we sayd before, so say I now againe, If any man preach vnto you otherwise, then that ye haue receiued, let him be accursed.

²² But the Scripture hath concluded all vnder sinne, that the promise by the faith of Iesus Christ should be giuen to them that beleeue. ²³ But before faith came, we were kept vnder the Law, as vnder a garison, and shut vp vnto that faith, which should afterward be reueiled.

¹² Would to God they were euen cut off, which doe disquiet you.

³ Among whom we also had our conuersation in time past, in the lustes of our flesh, in fulfilling the will of the flesh, and of the minde, and were by nature the children of wrath, as well as others.

² For ye your selues knowe perfectly, that the day of the Lord shall come, euen as a thiefe in the night. ³ For when they shall say, Peace, and safetie, then shall come vpon them sudden destruction, as the trauaile vpon a woman with childe, and they shall not escape,

² And that we may be deliuered from vnreasonable and euill men: for all men haue not fayth.

²⁷ And as it is appointed vnto men that they shall once die, and after that commeth the iudgement:

¹⁴ And I saide vnto him, Lord, thou knowest. And he saide to me, These are they, which came out of great tribulation, and haue washed their long robes, and haue made their long robes white in the blood of the Lambe.

⁸ Therefore shall her plagues come at one day, death, and sorowe, and famine, and she shalbe burnt with fire: for that God which condemneth her, is a strong Lord.
