⁶ So Saul dyed, and his three sonnes, and his armour bearer, and all his men that same day together. ⁷ And when the men of Israel that were on the other side of the valley, and they of the other side Iorden saw that the men of Israel were put to flight, and that Saul and his sonnes were dead, then they left the cities, and ran away: and the Philistims came and dwelt in them. ⁸ And on the morowe when the Philistims were come to spoyle them that were slaine, they founde Saul and his three sonnes lying in mount Gilboa,

¹⁰ So I came vpon him, and slewe him, and because I was sure that hee coulde not liue, after that hee had fallen, I tooke the crowne that was vpon his head, and the bracelet that was on his arme, and brought them hither vnto my lord.

¹⁹ O noble Israel, hee is slane vpon thy hie places: how are the mightie ouerthrowen!

²¹ Ye mountaines of Gilboa, vpon you be neither dewe nor raine, nor be there fieldes of offrings: for there the shielde of the mightie is cast downe, the shielde of Saul, as though he had not bene anointed with oyle.

²³ Saul and Ionathan were louely and pleasant in their liues, and in their deaths they were not deuided: they were swifter then eagles, they were stronger then lions.

²⁵ Howe were the mightie slaine in the mids of the battel! O Ionathan, thou wast slaine in thine hie places.

¹⁸ And there were three sonnes of Zeruiah there, Ioab, and Abishai, and Asahel. And Asahel was as light on foote as a wilde roe.

²⁸ And when afterwarde it came to Dauids eare, he saide, I and my kingdome are giltlesse before the Lord for euer, concerning the blood of Abner the sonne of Ner. ²⁹ Let the blood fall on the head of Ioab, and on all his fathers house, that the house of Ioab be neuer without some that haue running issues, or leper, or that leaneth on a staffe, or that doeth fall on the sworde, or that lacketh bread.

³¹ And Dauid said to Ioab, and to al the people that were with him, Rent your clothes, and put on sackecloth, and mourne before Abner: and King Dauid him selfe followed the beare.

³⁵ Afterwarde all the people came to cause Dauid eate meate while it was yet day, but Dauid sware, saying, So doe God to me and more also, if I taste bread, or ought els till the sunne be downe.

³⁰ And he tooke their Kings crowne from his head, (which weighed a talent of golde, with precious stones) and it was set on Dauids head: and he brought away the spoyle of the citie in exceeding great abundance.

³² Then Dauid came to the toppe of the mount where he worshipped God: and beholde, Hushai the Archite came against him with his coate torne, and hauing earth vpon his head.

²⁰ And Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada the sonne of a valiant man, which had done many actes, and was of Kabzeel, slewe two strong men of Moab: he went downe also, and slewe a lyon in the middes of a pit in the time of snowe.

³² And the Lord shall bring his blood vpon his owne head: for he smote two men more righteous and better then he, and slew them with the sword, and my father Dauid knew not: to wit, Abner the sonne of Ner, captaine of the hoste of Israel, and Amasa the sonne of Iether captaine of the hoste of Iudah. ³³ Their blood shall therefore returne vpon the head of Ioab, and on the head of his seede for euer: but vpon Dauid, and vpon his seede, and vpon his house, and vpon his throne shall there be peace for euer from the Lord. ³⁴ So Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada went vp, and smote him, and slewe him, and he was buryed in his owne house in the wildernesse.

³⁷ For that day that thou goest out, and passest ouer the riuer of Kidron, knowe assuredly, that thou shalt dye the death: thy blood shall be vpon thine owne head.

⁴⁶ So the King comanded Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada: who went out and smote him that he dyed. And the kingdome was established in the hand of Salomon.

³ Let the day perish, wherein I was borne, and the night when it was sayde, There is a man childe conceiued. ⁴ Let that day bee darkenesse, let not God regarde it from aboue, neyther let the light shine vpon it, ⁵ But let darkenesse, and the shadowe of death staine it: let the cloude remayne vpon it, and let them make it fearefull as a bitter day. ⁶ Let darkenesse possesse that night, let it not be ioyned vnto the dayes of the yeere, nor let it come into the count of the moneths. ⁷ Yea, desolate be that night, and let no ioy be in it. ⁸ Let them that curse the day, (being readie to renue their mourning) curse it. ⁹ Let the starres of that twilight be dimme through darkenesse of it: let it looke for light, but haue none: neither let it see the dawning of the day, ¹⁰ Because it shut not vp the dores of my mothers wombe: nor hid sorowe from mine eyes.

¹² He scattereth the deuices of the craftie: so that their handes can not accomplish that which they doe enterprise.

³ Say vnto God, Howe terrible art thou in thy workes! through the greatnesse of thy power shall thine enemies be in subiection vnto thee.

² The glorie of God is to conceale a thing secret: but the Kings honour is to search out a thing.

³⁰ A lyon which is strong among beastes, and turneth not at the sight of any:

²¹ She feareth not the snowe for her familie: for all her familie is clothed with skarlet.

¹⁶ The Lord also saith, Because the daughters of Zion are hautie, and walke with stretched out neckes, and with wandering eyes, walking and minsing as they goe, and making a tinkeling with their feete, ¹⁷ Therefore shall the Lord make the heades of the daughters of Zion balde, and the Lord shall discouer their secrete partes. ¹⁸ In that day shall the Lord take away the ornament of the slippers, and the calles, and the round tyres, ¹⁹ The sweete balles, and the brasselets, and the bonnets, ²⁰ The tyres of the head, and the sloppes, and the head bandes, and the tablets, and the earings, ²¹ The rings and the mufflers, ²² The costly apparell and the vailes, and the wimples, and the crisping pinnes, ²³ And the glasses and the fine linen, and the hoodes, and the launes. ²⁴ And in steade of sweete sauour, there shall be stinke, and in steade of a girdle, a rent, and in steade of dressing of the heare, baldnesse, and in steade of a stomacher, a girding of sackecloth, and burning in steade of beautie. ²⁵ Thy men shall fall by the sworde, and thy strength in the battell. ²⁶ Then shall her gates mourne and lament, and she, being desolate, shall sit vpon the ground.

² In that day shall the budde of the Lord bee beautifull and glorious, and the fruite of the earth shalbe excellent and pleasant for them that are escaped of Israel.

⁵ Prepare thou the table: watch in the watch towre: eate, drinke: arise, ye princes, anoynt the shielde.

⁶ The sword of the Lord is filled with blood: it is made fat with the fat and with the blood of the lambes and the goates, with the fat of the kidneis of the rams: for the Lord hath a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Edom. ⁷ And the vnicorne shall come downe with them and the heiffers with the bulles, and their lande shalbe drunken with blood, and their dust made fat with fatnesse.

² But hee shall growe vp before him as a branche, and as a roote out of a dry grounde: he hath neither forme nor beautie: when we shall see him, there shall be no forme that wee should desire him.

¹⁷ Thus sayeth the Lord of hostes, Take heede, and call for the mourning women, that they may come, and send for skilfull women that they may come, ¹⁸ And let them make haste, and let them take vp a lamentation for vs, that our eyes may cast out teares and our eye liddes gush out of water. ¹⁹ For a lamentable noyse is heard out of Zion, Howe are we destroyed, and vtterly confounded, for we haue forsaken the land, and our dwellings haue cast vs out. ²⁰ Therefore heare the worde of the Lord, O ye women, and let your eares regard the words of his mouth, and teach your daughters to mourne, and euery one her neighbour to lament. ²¹ For death is come vp into our windowes, and is entred into our palaces, to destroy the children without, and the yong men in the streetes.

¹⁴ Cursed be the day wherein I was borne: and let not the day wherein my mother bare me, be blessed. ¹⁵ Cursed be the man, that shewed my father, saying, A man child is borne vnto thee, and comforted him. ¹⁶ And let that man be as the cities, which the Lord hath ouerturned and repented not: and let him heare the cry in the morning, and the showting at noone tide,

¹ How hath the Lord darkened the daughter of Zion in his wrath! and hath cast downe from heauen vnto the earth the beautie of Israel, and remembred not his footestoole in the day of his wrath!

¹⁹ Our persecuters are swifter then the eagles of the heauen: they pursued vs vpon the mountaines, and layed waite for vs in the wildernes.

¹⁶ The crowne of our head is fallen: wo nowe vnto vs, that we haue sinned.

²⁷ Beholde, therefore I did stretche out mine hand ouer thee, and will diminish thine ordinarie, and deliuer thee vnto the will of them that hate thee, euen to the daughters of the Philistims, which are ashamed of thy wicked way.

⁵⁷ Before thy wickednes was discouered, as in that same time of the reproch of the daughters of Aram, and of all the daughters of the Philistims round about her which despise thee on all sides.

⁹ The meate offring, and the drinke offring is cut off from the House of the Lord: the Priests the Lords ministers mourne.

¹³ And rent your heart, and not your clothes: and turne vnto the Lord your God, for he is gratious, and mercifull, slowe to anger, and of great kindnes, and repenteth him of the euill. ¹⁴ Who knoweth, is he wil returne and repent and leaue a blessing behinde him, euen a meate offring, and a drinke offring vnto ye Lord your God?

⁶ They drinke wine in bowles, and anoynt themselues with the chiefe ointments, but no man is sory for the affliction of Ioseph.

¹⁰ Declare ye it not at Gath, neither weepe ye: for the house of Aphrah roule thy selfe in the dust.

⁷ For I fed the sheepe of slaughter, euen the poore of the flocke, and I tooke vnto me two staues: the one I called Beautie, and the other I called Bandes, and I fed the sheepe.

⁴⁴ But I say vnto you, Loue your enemies: blesse them that curse you: doe good to them that hate you, and pray for them which hurt you, and persecute you,

²² Then he sayde vnto him, Of thine owne mouth will I iudge thee, O euill seruant. Thou knewest that I am a straight man, taking vp that I layd not downe, and reaping that I did not sowe.

²⁶ Wherefore I take you to recorde this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men.

¹⁹ Now we know that whatsoeuer ye Lawe saieth, it saieth it to them which are vnder ye Law, that euery mouth may bee stopped, and all the world be subiect to the iudgement of God.

¹⁵ Reioyce with them that reioyce, and weepe with them that weepe.

²⁹ Who is weake, and I am not weake? who is offended, and I burne not?

⁹ Likewise also the women, that they aray themselues in comely apparell, with shamefastnes and modestie, not with broyded heare, or gold, or pearles, or costly apparell, ¹⁰ But (as becommeth women that professe the feare of God) with good workes.

³ Whose apparelling, let it not be that outwarde, with broyded heare, and golde put about, or in putting on of apparell: ⁴ But let it bee the hidde man of the heart, which consisteth in the incorruption of a meeke and quiet spirite, which is before God a thing much set by. ⁵ For euen after this maner in time past did the holy women, which trusted in God, tire them selues, and were subiect to their husbands.

⁸ Finally, be ye all of one minde: one suffer with another: loue as brethren: bee pitifull: bee courteous,

¹⁰ And chiefly them that walke after the flesh, in the lust of vncleannesse, and despise gouernement, which are bolde, and stand in their owne conceite, and feare not to speake euill of them that are in dignitie.

⁹ Behold, I will make them of the Synagogue of Satan, which call themselues Iewes, and are not, but doe lye: beholde, I say, I will make them, that they shall come and worship before thy feete, and shall knowe that I haue loued thee.
