¹ A Psalm of Asaph. God standeth in the congregation of God; he judgeth among the gods. ² How long will ye judge unjustly, and respect the persons of the wicked? Selah ³ Judge the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and destitute. ⁴ Rescue the poor and needy: deliver them out of the hand of the wicked. ⁵ They know not, neither do they understand; they walk to and fro in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are moved. ⁶ I said, Ye are gods, and all of you sons of the Most High. ⁷ Nevertheless ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes. ⁸ Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all the nations.

²¹ Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating unjust gain; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:

⁶ then his master shall bring him unto God, and shall bring him to the door, or unto the door post; and his master shall bore his ear through with an awl; and he shall serve him for ever.

²⁸ Thou shalt not revile God, nor curse a ruler of thy people.

⁶ and said to the judges, Consider what ye do: for ye judge not for man, but for the LORD; and [he is] with you in the judgment. ⁷ Now therefore let the fear of the LORD be upon you; take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with the LORD our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of gifts.

¹¹ So that men shall say, Verily there is a reward for the righteous: verily there is a God that judgeth in the earth.

⁶ I said, Ye are gods, and all of you sons of the Most High. ⁷ Nevertheless ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes.

¹ [A Psalm] of David. I will give thee thanks with my whole heart: before the gods will I sing praises unto thee.

⁸ If thou seest the oppression of the poor, and the violent taking away of judgment and justice in a province, marvel not at the matter: for one higher than the high regardeth; and there be higher than they.

¹³ The LORD standeth up to plead, and standeth to judge the peoples.

³⁵ If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came (and the scripture cannot be broken),

³ And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, How long wilt thou refuse to humble thyself before me? let my people go, that they may serve me.

⁶ Thou shalt not wrest the judgment of thy poor in his cause. ⁷ Keep thee far from a false matter; and the innocent and righteous slay thou not: for I will not justify the wicked.

¹⁵ Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: thou shalt not respect the person of the poor, nor honour the person of the mighty: but in righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbour.

¹⁷ Ye shall not respect persons in judgment; ye shall hear the small and the great alike; ye shall not be afraid of the face of man; for the judgment is God’s: and the cause that is too hard for you ye shall bring unto me, and I will hear it.

²¹ And Elijah came near unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.

⁷ Now therefore let the fear of the LORD be upon you; take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with the LORD our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of gifts.

¹⁹ [How much less to] him that respecteth not the persons of princes, nor regardeth the rich more than the poor? for they all are the work of his hands.

¹ For the Chief Musician; [set to] Al-tashheth. [A Psalm] of David: Michtam. Do ye indeed in silence speak righteousness? do ye judge uprightly, O ye sons of men? ² Yea, in heart ye work wickedness; ye weigh out the violence of your hands in the earth.

³ How long will ye set upon a man, that ye may slay [him], all of you, like a bowing wall, like a tottering fence?

⁵ To accept the person of the wicked is not good, [nor] to turn aside the righteous in judgment.

¹ And I said, Hear, I pray you, ye heads of Jacob, and rulers of the house of Israel: is it not for you to know judgment? ² who hate the good, and love the evil; who pluck off their skin from off them, and their flesh from off their bones; ³ who also eat the flesh of my people; and they flay their skin from off them, and break their bones: yea, they chop them in pieces, as for the pot, and as flesh within the caldron.

⁹ Hear this, I pray you, ye heads of the house of Jacob, and rulers of the house of Israel, that abhor judgment, and pervert all equity. ¹⁰ They build up Zion with blood, and Jerusalem with iniquity. ¹¹ The heads thereof judge for reward, and the priests thereof teach for hire, and the prophets thereof divine for money: yet will they lean upon the LORD, and say, Is not the LORD in the midst of us? no evil shall come upon us. ¹² Therefore shall Zion for your sake be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest.

¹⁷ And Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I bear with you? bring him hither to me.

⁶ But from those who were reputed to be somewhat (whatsoever they were, it maketh no matter to me: God accepteth not man’s person)—they, I say, who were of repute imparted nothing to me:

¹⁸ He doth execute the judgment of the fatherless and widow, and loveth the stranger, in giving him food and raiment.

¹⁷ Thou shalt not wrest the judgment of the stranger, [nor] of the fatherless; nor take the widow’s raiment to pledge:

¹⁸ To judge the fatherless and the oppressed, that man which is of the earth may be terrible no more.

¹⁷ learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.

²³ Thy princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves; every one loveth gifts, and followeth after rewards: they judge not the fatherless, neither doth the cause of the widow come unto them.

²⁸ They are waxen fat, they shine: yea, they overpass in deeds of wickedness: they plead not the cause, the cause of the fatherless, that they should prosper; and the right of the needy do they not judge.

³ Thus saith the LORD: Execute ye judgment and righteousness, and deliver the spoiled out of the hand of the oppressor: and do no wrong, do no violence, to the stranger, the fatherless, nor the widow, neither shed innocent blood in this place.

¹⁶ He judged the cause of the poor and needy; then it was well. Was not this to know me? saith the LORD.

²⁷ Pure religion and undefiled before our God and Father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, [and] to keep himself unspotted from the world.

¹ Then there arose a great cry of the people and of their wives against their brethren the Jews. ² For there were that said, We, our sons and our daughters, are many: let us get corn, that we may eat and live. ³ Some also there were that said, We are mortgaging our fields, and our vineyards, and our houses: let us get corn, because of the dearth. ⁴ There were also that said, We have borrowed money for the king’s tribute [upon] our fields and our vineyards. ⁵ Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brethren, our children as their children: and, lo, we bring into bondage our sons and our daughters to be servants, and some of our daughters are brought into bondage [already]: neither is it in our power to help it; for other men have our fields and our vineyards. ⁶ And I was very angry when I heard their cry and these words. ⁷ Then I consulted with myself, and contended with the nobles and the rulers, and said unto them, Ye exact usury, every one of his brother. And I held a great assembly against them. ⁸ And I said unto them, We after our ability have redeemed our brethren the Jews, which were sold unto the heathen; and would ye even sell your brethren, and should they be sold unto us? Then held they their peace, and found never a word. ⁹ Also I said, The thing that ye do is not good: ought ye not to walk in the fear of our God, because of the reproach of the heathen our enemies? ¹⁰ And I likewise, my brethren and my servants, do lend them money and corn on usury. I pray you, let us leave off this usury. ¹¹ Restore, I pray you, to them, even this day, their fields, their vineyards, their oliveyards, and their houses, also the hundredth part of the money, and of the corn, the wine, and the oil, that ye exact of them. ¹² Then said they, We will restore them, and will require nothing of them; so will we do, even as thou sayest. Then I called the priests, and took an oath of them, that they should do according to this promise. ¹³ Also I shook out my lap, and said, So God shake out every man from his house, and from his labour, that performeth not this promise; even thus be he shaken out, and emptied. And all the congregation said, Amen, and praised the LORD. And the people did according to this promise.

¹⁵ But he saveth from the sword of their mouth, even the needy from the hand of the mighty. ¹⁶ So the poor hath hope, and iniquity stoppeth her mouth.

¹² Because I delivered the poor that cried, the fatherless also, that had none to help him.

¹⁶ I was a father to the needy: and the cause of him that I knew not I searched out. ¹⁷ And I brake the jaws of the unrighteous, and plucked the prey out of his teeth.

¹² For he shall deliver the needy when he crieth; and the poor, that hath no helper. ¹³ He shall have pity on the poor and needy, and the souls of the needy he shall save. ¹⁴ He shall redeem their soul from oppression and violence; and precious shall their blood be in his sight:

¹² I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and the right of the needy.

¹¹ Deliver them that are carried away unto death, and those that are ready to be slain see that thou hold back. ¹² If thou sayest, Behold, we knew not this: doth not he that weigheth the hearts consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his work?

³ If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?

⁴ Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people as they eat bread, and call not upon the LORD.

²⁹ For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD:

¹³ Who forsake the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;

¹⁹ The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.

¹⁴ The wise man’s eyes are in his head, and the fool walketh in darkness: and yet I perceived that one event happeneth to them all.

¹⁶ And moreover I saw under the sun, in the place of judgment, that wickedness was there; and in the place of righteousness, that wickedness was there.

⁷ For the vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant: and he looked for judgment, but behold oppression; for righteousness, but behold a cry.

⁹ Therefore is judgment far from us, neither doth righteousness overtake us: we look for light, but behold darkness; for brightness, but we walk in obscurity.

¹ And I said, Hear, I pray you, ye heads of Jacob, and rulers of the house of Israel: is it not for you to know judgment?

¹⁹ And this is the judgment, that the light is come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light; for their works were evil.

³⁵ Jesus therefore said unto them, Yet a little while is the light among you. Walk while ye have the light, that darkness overtake you not: and he that walketh in the darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.

²⁸ And even as they refused to have God in [their] knowledge, God gave them up unto a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not fitting;

¹⁹ Howbeit the firm foundation of God standeth, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his: and, Let every one that nameth the name of the Lord depart from unrighteousness.

¹¹ But he that hateth his brother is in the darkness, and walketh in the darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because the darkness hath blinded his eyes.

⁹ For every matter of trespass, whether it be for ox, for ass, for sheep, for raiment, [or] for any manner of lost thing, whereof one saith, This is it, the cause of both parties shall come before God; he whom God shall condemn shall pay double unto his neighbour.

³⁴ Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods? ³⁵ If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came (and the scripture cannot be broken), ³⁶ say ye of him, whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am [the] Son of God?

³² Yet shall he be borne to the grave, and shall keep watch over the tomb.

¹² But man abideth not in honour: he is like the beasts that perish.

¹¹ Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb; yea, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna:

¹⁴ to the end that none of all the trees by the waters exalt themselves in their stature, neither set their top among the thick boughs, nor that their mighty ones stand up in their height, [even] all that drink water: for they are all delivered unto death, to the nether parts of the earth, in the midst of the children of men, with them that go down to the pit.

⁸ Ask of me, and I will give thee the nations for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.

⁶ Arise, O LORD, in thine anger, lift up thyself against the rage of mine adversaries: and awake for me; thou hast commanded judgment.

⁵ For the spoiling of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, saith the LORD; I will set him in safety at whom they puff.

²⁸ For the kingdom is the LORD’S: and he is the ruler over the nations.

²⁶ Rise up for our help, and redeem us for thy lovingkindness’ sake.

¹³ Before the LORD, for he cometh; for he cometh to judge the earth: he shall judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with his truth.

¹³ Thou shalt arise, and have mercy upon Zion: for it is time to have pity upon her, yea, the set time is come.

⁹ Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the LORD; awake, as in the days of old, the generations of ancient times. Art thou not it that cut Rahab in pieces, that pierced the dragon?

² The godly man is perished out of the earth, and there is none upright among men: they all lie in wait for blood; they hunt every man his brother with a net.

⁷ But as for me, I will look unto the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation: my God will hear me.

⁸ Therefore wait ye for me, saith the LORD, until the day that I rise up to the prey: for my determination is to gather the nations, that I may assemble the kingdoms, to pour upon them mine indignation, even all my fierce anger; for all the earth shall be devoured with the fire of my jealousy.

¹⁵ And the seventh angel sounded; and there followed great voices in heaven, and they said, The kingdom of the world is become [the kingdom] of our Lord, and of his Christ: and he shall reign for ever and ever.
