³¹ And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, the face thereof was covered with nettles, and the stone wall thereof was broken down.

¹⁷ And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in toil shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; ¹⁸ thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; ¹⁹ in the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

⁴⁰ Let thistles grow instead of wheat, and cockle instead of barley. The words of Job are ended.

²³ The fear of the LORD [tendeth] to life: and he [that hath it] shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.

⁴ The slothful will not plow by reason of the winter; therefore he shall beg in harvest, and have nothing.

¹³ The sluggard saith, There is a lion without: I shall be murdered in the streets.

²¹ For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe [a man] with rags.

¹⁸ By slothfulness the roof sinketh in; and through idleness of the hands the house leaketh.

⁵ And now go to; I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard: I will take away the hedge thereof, and it shall be eaten up; I will break down the fence thereof, and it shall be trodden down:

³ For thus saith the LORD to the men of Judah and to Jerusalem, Break up your fallow ground, and sow not among thorns.

⁷ And others fell upon the thorns; and the thorns grew up, and choked them:

²² And he that was sown among the thorns, this is he that heareth the word; and the care of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.

⁸ but if it beareth thorns and thistles, it is rejected and nigh unto a curse; whose end is to be burned.
